RESUMEN

This meta-analysis aimed to elucidate the effects of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) on the recovery of alveolar bone after surgical removal of the mandibular third molars. PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Embase databases were searched from the inception to February 2023 for relevant studies on the application of PRF after the extraction of impacted mandibular third molars, with the language limited to English. Literature screening was conducted by two independent researchers. The Cochrane risk-of-bias tool was adopted for quality evaluation, and Stata 15.0 was used for statistical analysis. A total of 33 randomized controlled trials were included in the present study. Following surgical removal of the mandibular third molars, 1139 tooth sockets were filled with PRF, while 1138 sockets were sutured after conventional saline irrigation. The meta-analyses showed that PRF can relieve pain [(RR 0.454; 95% CI 0.23, 0.891); (SMD -0.74; 95% CI -0.97, 0.52)], improve swelling (SMD -1.48; 95% CI -1.90, -1.06), alleviate trismus (SMD -0.35; 95% CI -0.51, -0.19), reduce dry socket (SMD -0.18; 95% CI -030, -0.05), and promote bone tissue healing (SMD 2.34; 95% CI 0.18, 4.51). The current study confirms that PRF can reduce some postoperative complications. Local application of PRF after lower third molar extraction is a viable method for relieving pain and swelling, reducing the incidence of dry socket and trismus, and increasing bone density. However, whether it can promote soft tissue healing remains unclear. For patients undergoing complicated surgical extraction, local application of PRF into the sockets might be a good option.

RESUMEN

Cyberbullying victimization is becoming more prevalent and adversely affects mental health. This research explores the relationship between the two variables and the underlying mechanism, especially for children, as the impact of mental health in childhood might last a lifetime. Primary school students (N = 344; Mage = 9.90; 43.90% girls) completed self-report questionnaires regarding cyberbullying victimization, self-perceived social competence, optimism, and depression at school. Gender and grade were controlled as covariates. Depression was positively predicted by cyberbullying victimization, while self-perceived social competence played a partially mediating role. In addition, optimism directly and indirectly moderated the effects of cyberbullying victimization on depression. Specifically, the effects were stronger for children with low levels of optimism. Therefore, efforts to enhance children's self-perceived social competence and optimism may reduce their depression resulting from cyberbullying victimization.

RESUMEN

Objective: Smoking stands as a significant factor contributing to aberrations in bone metabolism, while microRNAs are intricately linked to the regulation of bone metabolism. This study aimed to identify cotinine-responsive microRNAs (miRNAs) and downstream regulatory pathways of their target genes involved in the regulation of osteoblastic cells, providing a foundation for new treatments targeting miRNAs for the bone metabolism imbalance induced by smoking. Methods: Primary osteoblastic cells of Sprague-Dawley rats were cultured through a modified enzymatic digestion method from the cranial bone of neonatal rats and stimulated with a high concentration of cotinine (1000 ng/mL) for 7 days. Then, miRNA gene chip technology was utilized to detect the changes in miRNA expression profiles in cotinine-stimulated osteoblastic cells, and differential expression profiles of cotinine-responsive miRNAs in osteoblastic cells were identified. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the levels of significantly differentially expressed miRNAs in rat osteoblastic cells. Gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses were utilized to predict target genes of these miRNAs to reveal the potential biological functions and pathways. Results: We identified 6 statistically differentially expressed miRNAs in the miRNA microarray analysis, of which 3 were upregulated and 3 were downregulated. We chose bone metabolism-related miRNAs as the miRNAs of interest. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the expression levels of the differentially expressed miRNAs, and only miR-210 was significantly upregulated (3.34-fold), consistent with the microarray data. GO and KEGG pathway analyses of predicted miR-210 target genes revealed that miR-210 might participate in numerous signaling pathways, such as the RAS, Rap, PI3K-Akt, and calcium signaling pathways. Conclusion: We found that the strongly upregulated miR-210 may play an important regulatory role in osteoblast cells' biological behavior and bone formation function. The GO analysis results showed that miR-210 mainly involved protein binding, transporter activity, growth factor binding, and ion channel activity. According to the results of the KEGG analysis, miR-210 might negatively regulate the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, thus affecting the proliferation of osteoblastic cells. These findings suggest that miR-210 may be a potential target for regulating the imbalance of bone metabolism caused by smoking, offering a new direction for clinical treatment of patients with bone metabolism-related diseases.

RESUMEN

Six undescribed capnosane-type macrocyclic diterpenes sarcocrassolins A-F (1-6) and one related known analog pavidolide D (7) were isolated from Sarcophyton crassocaule, a soft coral collected off the Nansha Islands, in the South China Sea. Their complete structures, relative configurations and absolute configurations were established through comprehensive spectroscopic analysis, quantum mechanical nuclear magnetic resonance (QM-NMR) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Sarcocrassolins D (4) and E (5) showed inhibitory activity against lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated inflammatory responses in RAW264.7 cells with IC50 values of 76.8 ± 8.0 µM and 93.0 ± 3.8 µM, respectively.

RESUMEN

One of the largest concerns with world health today is still antibiotic resistance, which is making it imperative to find efficient alternatives as soon as possible. It has been demonstrated that microbes are reliable sources for the creation of therapeutic antibiotics. This research intends to investigate the endophytic microorganisms from several medicinal plants in Fenghuang Mountain (Jiangsu Province, China) and to discover new antibiotics from their secondary metabolites. A total of 269 endophytic strains were isolated from nine distinct medicinal plants. Taxonomic analysis revealed that there were 20 distinct species among these endophytes, with Streptomyces being the most common genus. Three of the target strains were chosen for scale-up fermentation after preliminary screening of antibacterial activities and the metabolomics investigation using LC-MS. These strains were Penicillium sp. NX-S-6, Streptomyces sp. YHLB-L-2 and Streptomyces sp. ZLBB-S-6. Twenty-three secondary metabolites (1-23), including a new sorbicillin analogue (1), were produced as a result of antibacterial activity-guided isolation. Through spectroscopic analysis using MS and NMR, the structures of yield compounds were clarified. According to antibacterial data, S. aureus or B. subtilis were inhibited to varying degrees by sorrentanone (3), emodic acid (8), GKK1032 B (10), linoleic acid (14), toyocamycin (17) and quinomycin A (21). The most effective antimicrobial agent against S. aureus, B. subtilis, E. coli and A. baumannii was quinomycin A (21). In addition, quinomycin A showed strong antifungal activity against Aspergillus fumigatus, Cryptococcus neoformans, and two clinical isolated strains Aspergillus fumigatus #176 and #339, with MIC as 16, 4, 16 and 16 µg/mL, respectively. This is the first time that bioprospecting of actinobacteria and their secondary metabolites from medicinal plants in Fenghuang Mountain was reported. The finding demonstrates the potential of endophytic microbes in medical plants to produce a variety of natural products. Endophytic microbes will be an important source for new antibiotics.

RESUMEN

Background: There is increasing evidence that neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy is superior to neoadjuvant chemotherapy for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer. However, a number of studies have come to the opposite conclusion. Therefore, our meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of locally advanced gastric cancer. Methods: We searched Wanfang Database, China National Knowledge Network database, VIP database, China Biomedical Literature Database, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library. The searched terms included'Stomach Neoplasms', 'Neoadjuvant Therapy' and 'Chemoradiotherapy'. The retrieval time was from the establishment of the corresponding database to September 2022, and our meta-analysis was performed using RevMan (version 5.3) and Stata (version 17) software. Results: A total of 17 literatures were included, which involved 7 randomized controlled trials and 10 retrospective studies, with a total of 6831 patients. The results of meta-analysis showed that compared with NACT group, the complete response rate(RR=1.95, 95%CI 1.39-2.73, p=0.0001), the partial response rate(RR=1.44, 95%CI 1.22-1.71, p=0.0001), the objective response rate(RR=1.37, 95%CI 1.27-1.54, p=0.00001), the pathologic complete response rate(RR=3.39, 95%CI 2.17-5.30, p=0.00001), the R0 resection rate(RR=1.18, 95%CI 1.09-1.29, p=0.0001) and 3-year overall survival rate(HR=0.89, 95%CI 0.82-0.96, p=0.002) of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy group were significantly improved. The results of subgroup analyses of gastric cancer subgroup and gastroesophageal junction cancer subgroup were consistent with the overall results. Meanwhile, the stable disease(RR=0.59, 95%CI:0.44-0.81, P=0.0010) of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy group was lower than that of neoadjuvant chemotherapy group, and there were no statistical significance in the progressive disease rate(RR=0.57, 95%CI:0.31-1.03, P=0.06), five-year overall survival rate(HR=1.03, 95%CI:0.99-1.07, P=0.839), postoperative complications and adverse reactions between the neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy group and neoadjuvant chemotherapy group. Conclusion: Compared with neoadjuvant chemotherapy, neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy might bring more survival benefits without significantly increasing adverse reactions. neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy may be a recommended treatment for patients with locally advanced gastric cancer. RESUMEN

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is one of the most prevalent cancers diseases in the worldwide. Long noncoding RNAs (LncRNAs) have been indicated as a mediator acted in tumorigenesis of RCC. LINC00460 has been reported to participate in many kinds of malignancies and promotes cancer progressions. However, the mechanism of LINC00460 on RCC is yet to be investigated. This study aimed to explore the potential function and regulation mechanism of LINC00460 in RCC. We analysed the LINC00460 expression and the prognosis in RCC patients using Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. LINC00460 level in normal renal cell line and RCC cell lines were examined by qRT-PCR. We study the effects of LINC00460 on proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis in RCC cells lines using a series of in vivo and in vitro experiments. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) analysis was applied to searching potential LINC00460 related signal pathway in RCC. We identified the significant up-regulated expression of LINC00460 both in RCC tissues and cell. RCC patients with elevated LINC00460 expression have shorter survival. Up-expression of LINC00460 promoted cell proliferation, invasion and migration, meanwhile down-regulation of LINC00460 exerted inhibitory effect on these activities. We crucially identified that LNC00460 promotes development of RCC by influencing the PI3K/AKT pathway. Knockdown of LNC00460 decreased the phosphorylation of AKT and mTOR. The key finding of our study showed that LINC00460 functions as an oncogene in RCC pathogenesis by mediating the PI3K/AKT.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: To compare the survival and complications of neoadjuvant chemoradiation (NCRT) versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NCT) for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). METHODS: We conducted a systematic literature search of the PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, CNKI, Wanfang Data, CBM, and VIP databases from inception to November 2021. Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan (version 5.3) and Stata version 15.0. RESULTS: A total of 18 studies were included, which involved 3137 patients, The results of the metaanalysis showed that the pathological complete remission rate (odds ratio [OR] = 5.21, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 2.85-9.50, p<0.00001) and complete tumor resection rate (OR = 2.31, 95% CI: 1.57-3.41, p<0.0001) in the NCRT group were significantly better than those in the NCT group. Our meta-analysis results showed that 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates (1-year overall survival [OS]: OR = 1.51, 95% CI: 1.11-2.05, p = 0.009; 3-year OS: OR = 1.73, 95% CI: 1.36-2.21, p<0.0001; 5-year OS: OR = 1.61, 95% CI: 1.30-1.99, p<0.00001) in the NCRT group were significantly higher than those in the NCT group. NCRT can lead a significant survival benefit compared with NCT and there was no significant difference between the two neoadjuvant treatments in terms of postoperative complications. CONCLUSION: The use of NCRT in the treatment of patients with ESCC patients showed significant advantages in terms of survival and safety relative to the use of NCT.

RESUMEN

Background: Glutamate is one of the most important excitatory neurotransmitters in the mammalian brain and is involved in a variety of neurological disorders. Increasing evidence also shows that microRNA (miRNA) and mRNA pairs are engaged in a variety of pathophysiological processes. However, the miRNA and mRNA pairs that affect the glutamatergic system in post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) remain unknown. Methods: PTE rats were induced by injecting 0.1 mol/L, 1 µL/min FeCl2 solution. Behavioral scores and EEG monitoring were used to evaluate whether PTE was successfully induced. RNA-seq was used to obtain mRNA and miRNA expression profiles. Bioinformatics analysis was performed to screen differentially expressed mRNAs and miRNAs associated with the glutamatergic system and then predict miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR was used to further validate the expression of the differential miRNAs and mRNAs. The microRNA-mRNA was subject to the Pearson correlation analysis. Results: Eight of the 91 differentially expressed mRNAs were associated with the glutamatergic system, of which six were upregulated and two were downregulated. Forty miRNAs were significantly differentially expressed, with 14 upregulated and 26 downregulated genes. The predicted miRNA-mRNA interaction network shows that five of the eight differentially expressed mRNAs associated with the glutamatergic system were targeted by multiple miRNAs, including Slc17a6, Mef2c, Fyn, Slc25a22, and Shank2, while the remaining three mRNAs were not targeted by any miRNAs. Of the 40 differentially expressed miRNAs, seven miRNAs were found to have multiple target mRNAs associated with the glutamatergic system. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR validation and Pearson correlation analysis were performed on these seven targeted miRNAs-Slc17a6, Mef2c, Fyn, Slc25a22, and Shank2-and six additional miRNAs selected from the literature. Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR showed that the expression levels of the mRNAs and miRNAs agreed with the predictions in the study. Among them, the miR-98-5p-Slc17a6, miR-335-5p-Slc17a6, miR-30e-5p-Slc17a6, miR-1224-Slc25a22, and miR-211-5p-Slc25a22 pairs were verified to have negative correlations. Conclusions: Our results indicate that miRNA-mRNA interaction pairs associated with the glutamatergic system are involved in the development of PTE and have potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets for PTE.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: This study was performed to evaluate the effect of oral stimulation with breast milk for preterm infants. METHODS: A total of 68 subjects form neonatal intensive care unit were randomly assigned into control group (n=20), premature infant oral motor intervention (PIOMI) group (n=25) and premature infant oral motor intervention with breast milk (BM-PIOMI) group (n=23). RESULTS: BM-PIOMI group had significant shorter initiation of oral feeding (IOF) time compared to PIOMI group (2.95 days, 95% CI [0.42-5.48]) or control group (9.79 days, 95% CI [7.07-12.51]). BM-PIOMI group had significant sooner transition time from IOF to full oral feeding (FOF) compared to control group (6.68 days, 95% CI [2.2-11.16]), but not to PIOMI group (2.09 days, 95% CI [-2.07 to 6.25]). Length of hospital stay (LOS) did not show statistical different between three groups (control 38.85 ± 14.40 vs. PIOMI 38.48 ± 11.76 vs. BM-PIOMI 38.04 ± 12.2). Growth mixture model identified improvement in non-nutritive sucking (NNS) score in BM-PIOMI group compared to control and PIOMI group (0.8293, p<0.0001, and 0.8296, p<0.0001, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: Oral stimulation with breast milk can better promotes the oral feeding process of premature infants than the simple oral stimulation, by shorten IOF time and improve early NNS score, but does not shorten transition time from IOF to FOF and LOS.

RESUMEN

Objectives: Androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy for intermediate-risk prostate cancer is still a matter of debate. We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate the necessity of androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy for intermediate-risk prostate cancer patients. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of articles was performed in PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese Biological Medicine, Wanfang, and VIP Databases published between February 1988 and April 2022. Studies comparing the survival of patients diagnosed with intermediate-risk prostate cancer who were treated with androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy or radiotherapy alone were included. Data were extracted and analyzed with the RevMan software (version 5.3) and the Stata software (version 17). Results: Six randomized controlled trials and nine retrospective studies, including 6853 patients (2948 in androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy group and 3905 in radiotherapy alone group) were enrolled. Androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy did not provide an overall survival (HR 1.12, 95% CI 1.01-1.12, p=0.04) or biochemical recurrence-free survival (HR 1.23, 95% CI 1.09-1.39, P=0.001) advantage to intermediate-risk prostate cancer patients. Conclusion: Androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy did not show some advantages in terms of overall survival and biochemical recurrence-free survival and radiotherapy alone may be the effective therapy for intermediate-risk prostate cancer patients. RESUMEN

Aim: To investigate the association between the experience of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and neurodevelopment of 6-month-old and 1-year-old children and explore the differences in the association by birth order. Methods: This comparison study was embedded in the Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study in China. The exposed group included 546 6-month-old and 285 1-year-old children who attended neurodevelopment assessments between March 1 and May 15, 2020, and the non-exposed group included 3,009 6-month-old and 2,214 1-year-old children during the same months from 2015 to 2019. Neurodevelopment at age 6 months and 1 year was assessed by trained clinical staff using the Ages and Stages Questionnaires, third edition (ASQ-3) and the Gesell Developmental Schedules (GDS). Results: The experience of the pandemic in 2020 was associated with a higher risk of delay in the fine motor (adjusted OR: 2.50, 95% CI: 1.25, 4.99; estimated by logistic regression) and communication (adjusted RR [aRR]: 1.13, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.25; estimated by log-binomial regression) domains at age 1 year. The association between the experience of the pandemic and communication delay at age 1 year only existed in first-born children (aRR: 1.15, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.30) but not in later-born children (aRR: 1.02, 95% CI: 0.84, 1.25). No associations were observed in any domain among 6-month-olds. Conclusion: Experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic and related public health strategies might be associated with a higher risk of delay in the development of fine motor and communication in 1-year-old children; the association observed in the communication domain only existed in first-born children.

RESUMEN

Background: Sustained withdrawal behavior is an obstacle for child development. The present study aimed to preliminarily evaluate the prevalence of social withdrawal tendency in young Chinese children using the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) and describe the characteristics of socially withdrawn children. Method: This was a cross-sectional analysis as part of a prospective cohort study. A total of 114 children aged 3-24 months were included. The following instruments were administered: the Chinese version of ADBB, the Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3), the Ages and Stages Questionnaire: Social-Emotional (ASQ:SE), and the Infant Temperamental Questionnaire. The tendency of social withdrawal in children was assessed using the ADBB. Social withdrawal was defined as an ADBB score of 5 or above. Student's t-test, χ2 test, and Fisher's exact test were performed to identify the differences in maternal and child characteristics between the children with and without social withdrawal. Age-specific indicators of development in these two groups were also presented. Results: About 16.7% of the children were socially withdrawn. Compared with those without social withdrawal, children with social withdrawal were older and had higher proportions of boys (68.4 vs. 42.1%) and social-emotional development delay (63.2 vs. 0%). In age-specific analyses, social-emotional development was poorer in children with social withdrawal across all age groups from 3 to 24 months. Conclusion: Assessed by the ADBB, the prevalence of social withdrawal tendency in young Chinese children was similar to that reported in the European population; children with social withdrawal tended to have poorer social-emotional development. Further research with larger sample sizes is needed to validate the scale and confirm these findings.

RESUMEN

In addition to forming spores, Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) 4.0718 can produce toxins, insecticidal crystal protein (ICP) and vegetative insecticidal protein (Vip). The Bt spoIVA was successfully knocked out by gene recombination and was shown to inhibit sporulation. The mutant strain also exhibited significantly decreased growth and crystal formation, which inhibited spore formation and partially reduced the rate of crystal synthesis. The 50 % lethal concentrations (LC50) values of Bt 4.0718, replacement, complementation and multi-copy mutant strains against the fourth larval stage of H. armigera was determined as 5.422, 6.776, 6.223 and 5.018 µg/mL, respectively. A total of 1814 proteins were identified through isobaric tags for relative and absolute protein (iTRAQ), with 41 and 54 up and downregulated proteins observed. Gene ontology enrichment analysis showed that differentially expressed proteins were primarily involved in the biological process and molecular function. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis confirmed that 9 differential expressed genes exhibited a positive correlation between changes at transcriptional and translational levels. The results of this study provide a basis for further studies of the metabolic regulatory network of spores and crystal protein formation. Moreover, they can be used to ecologically safe insecticide of farmland production because the constructed Bt spoIVA mutants did not produce spores.Provides new ideas for the targeted improvement and application of environmentally friendly spore-free strains.

RESUMEN

Background: Dysregulated expression of microRNAs and potassium channels have been reported for their contributions to seizure onset. However, the microRNA-potassium channel gene interactions in traumatic brain injury-induced post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) remain unknown. Methods: PTE was induced in male rats by intracranial injection with ferrous chloride (0.1 mol/L, 1 µl/min) at the right frontal cortex. Electroencephalography was recorded at 60 min, as well as day 1, 7, and 30, and the behavioral seizures were assessed before injection and at different time points after injection. Rats were killed on day 30 after injection. The right frontal cortex samples were collected and subjected to high throughput messenger RNA (mRNA) and microRNA sequencing. A network of differentially expressed potassium channel mRNAs and microRNAs was constructed using OryCun2.0 and subjected to Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analyses. The differential mRNA and microRNA expressions were verified using quantitative real-time-PCR. The microRNA-mRNA was subject to the Pearson correlation analysis. Results: A PTE rat model was successfully established, as evidenced by behavioral seizures and epileptiform discharges on electroencephalography in PTE rats compared with sham rats. Among the 91 mRNAs and 40 microRNAs that were significantly differentially expressed in the PTE rat brain, 4 mRNAs and 10 microRNAs were associated with potassium channels. Except for potassium calcium-activated channel subfamily N member 2, the other three potassium channel mRNAs were negatively correlated with seven microRNAs. These microRNA-mRNA pairs were enriched in annotations and pathways related to neuronal ion channels and neuroinflammation. Quantitative real-time-PCR and correlation analysis verified negative correlations in miR-449a-5p-KCNH2, miR-98-5p-KCNH2, miR-98-5p-KCNK15, miR-19b-3p-KCNK15, and miR-301a-3p-KCNK15 pairs. Conclusion: We identified microRNA-potassium channel mRNA interactions associated with PTE, providing potential diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets for PTE.

RESUMEN

Thyroid-like low-grade nasopharyngeal papillary adenocarcinoma (TL-LGNPPA) is an extremely rare neoplasm. It morphologically resembles papillary thyroid carcinoma and is immunochemically positive for thyroid transcription factor 1. Herein, we reported a case of TL-LGNPPA in a female patient of 35 years old. She felt pharyngeal foreign body sensation of unknown cause and subsequently developed dyspnea after activities. Nasopharyngeal plain computerized tomography showed no abnormalities, but laryngoscopy showed a peanut-sized smooth neoplasm with a pedicel at the posterior edge of the nasal septum. The mass was completely resected by nasopharyngoscopy. Histologic examination showed the tumor was composed of papillary configuration and tubular glands; each papilla was covered with cuboidal or columnar epithelial cells; tubular architecture and spindle cell component were also observed; some tumor cells had psammoma bodies. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for CKpan, CK7, CK19, VIM, and thyroid transcription factor 1, but negative for thyroglobulin, CK20, S-100, P63, P40, smooth muscle actin, CDX-2, and glial fibrillary acidic protein. This patient was diagnosed with TL-LGNPPA and followed up for 16 months, and metastasis and recurrence were not observed.

RESUMEN

The Born in Guangzhou Cohort Study (BIGCS) is a large-scale prospective observational study investigating the role of social, biological and environmental influences on pregnancy and child health and development in an urban setting in southern China. Pregnant women who reside in Guangzhou and who attend Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center (GWCMC) for antenatal care in early pregnancy (<20 weeks' gestation) are eligible for inclusion. Study recruitment commenced in February 2012, with an overall participation rate of 76.3%. Study recruitment will continue until December 2018 to achieve the target sample size of 30,000 mother-child pairs. At 30 April 2016, a total of 75,422 questionnaires have been collected, while 14,696 live births have occurred with planned follow-up of cohort children until age 18 years. During the same period a total of 1,053,000 biological samples have been collected from participants, including maternal, paternal and infant blood, cord blood, placenta, umbilical cord, and maternal and infant stool samples. The dataset has been enhanced by record linkage to routine health and administrative records. We plan future record linkage to school enrolment and national examination records.

RESUMEN

AIM: To evaluate the microenvironment changes in the sockets substituted with bovine-derived xenografts during the early healing period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: After extraction of the right maxillary incisor of Sprague Dawley rats, 48 rats were randomly divided into 2 groups. The extraction sockets of the test group were filled with Bio-Oss, whereas the control group was allowed to heal without intervention. The bone quality of the extraction sockets was observed through micro-CT and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Micro-CT scanning showed that the bone mineral density in the test group was significantly higher than that in the control group during the early healing period, whereas immunohistochemistry showed that the bone formation-related factors were significantly different between the test and control groups. CONCLUSIONS: The bovine-derived xenografts may interfere with the healing process of the extraction socket in the early healing stage. Bone formation of the extraction socket was delayed after grafting with bone substitute.
