RESUMEN

BACKGROUND: Transgender women (TGWs) constitute one of the key populations for HIV prevention and control and constitute a high-risk group due to a lack of health services. The aim of this study was to investigate knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAPs) related to HIV and knowledge access and needs amongst transgender women in Chongqing, China. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from October 2022 to March 2023. A total of 128 self-identified TGWs were recruited in Chongqing, China, via snowball sampling, and a KAP-related questionnaire was completed via Questionnaire Star. RESULTS: For the 128 TGWs surveyed effectively, the total knowledge of AIDS-related knowledge was 82.03%, with significant differences in age, education level, marital status, occupation and average monthly income (p < 0.05). Significant differences were obtained in terms of personal attitudes toward AIDS and place of domicile and literacy (p < 0.05) and subjective norms in terms of literacy (p < 0.05). No significant difference was observed between the groups in terms of HIV-related practices. The corresponding values were assigned to knowledge, attitudes or practices. The total scores of the three aspects were 6.77 ± 1.47 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 3.89-9.65) (range: 0-8), 14.22 ± 2.37 (95% CI: 9.57-18.87) (range: 0-18) and 6.66 ± 1.79 (95% CI: 3.16-10.17) (range: 0-9), respectively. The main approaches for TGWs to acquire AIDS knowledge are 'Internet/smartphone' (81.68%), 'TV/radio' (49.62%) and 'special education on AIDS prevention in schools' (48.09%). TGW is more inclined to accept promotional activities such as 'WeChat push' (58.02%), 'peer education' (44.27%) and 'mobile app management' (37.40%). AIDS knowledge indicates that TGW needs to strengthen publicity, including 'transmission routes' (71.76%), 'voluntary counselling and testing knowledge' (67.94%) and 'virus-related knowledge' (64.89%). CONCLUSIONS: First, the knowledge rate of AIDS amongst TGWs in Chongqing, China, still has room for improvement, and there is a gap between knowledge and behavior. Second, TGWs are tolerant of AIDS and people living with AIDS and have a strong awareness of AIDS prevention. Third, the health department should attach importance to the group of TGW over 35 years old, low-income, and low-educated, and promote social organizations and network platforms to further strengthen the health education and publicity of AIDS from the perspectives of knowledge acquisition and needs.

RESUMEN

Micro-nano plastics have been reported as important carriers of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) for long-distance migration in the environment. However, the combined toxicity from long-term chronic exposure beyond the vehicle-release mechanism remains elusive. In this study, we investigated the synergistic action of Benzo[a]pyrene (BaP) and Polystyrene nanoparticles (PS) in Caenorhabditis elegans (C. elegans) as a combined exposure model with environmental concentrations. We found that the combined exposure to BaP and PS, as opposed to single exposures at low concentrations, significantly shortened the lifespan of C. elegans, leading to the occurrence of multiple senescence phenotypes. Multi-omics data indicated that the combined exposure to BaP and PS is associated with the disruption of glutathione homeostasis. Consequently, the accumulated reactive oxygen species (ROS) cannot be effectively cleared, which is highly correlated with mitochondrial dysfunction. Moreover, the increase in ROS promoted lipid peroxidation in C. elegans and downregulated Ferritin-1 (Ftn-1), resulting in ferroptosis and ultimately accelerating the aging process of C. elegans. Collectively, our study provides a new perspective to explain the long-term compound toxicity caused by BaP and PS at real-world exposure concentrations.

RESUMEN

Multimodal deep learning plays a pivotal role in supporting the processing and learning of diverse data types within the realm of artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC). However, most photonic neuromorphic processors for deep learning can only handle a single data modality (either vision or audio) due to the lack of abundant parameter training in optical domain. Here, we propose and demonstrate a trainable diffractive optical neural network (TDONN) chip based on on-chip diffractive optics with massive tunable elements to address these constraints. The TDONN chip includes one input layer, five hidden layers, and one output layer, and only one forward propagation is required to obtain the inference results without frequent optical-electrical conversion. The customized stochastic gradient descent algorithm and the drop-out mechanism are developed for photonic neurons to realize in situ training and fast convergence in the optical domain. The TDONN chip achieves a potential throughput of 217.6 tera-operations per second (TOPS) with high computing density (447.7 TOPS/mm2), high system-level energy efficiency (7.28 TOPS/W), and low optical latency (30.2 ps). The TDONN chip has successfully implemented four-class classification in different modalities (vision, audio, and touch) and achieve 85.7% accuracy on multimodal test sets. Our work opens up a new avenue for multimodal deep learning with integrated photonic processors, providing a potential solution for low-power AI large models using photonic technology.

RESUMEN

OBJECTIVES: Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a serious public health problem with high mortality and morbidity. The current study aims to investigate the effects of rosiglitazone on the microglial distribution and the expression of PPARγ and CD36 in the ICH rat model. METHODS NEW: Sprague-Dawley male rats (n=116) were randomly divided into four groups: control, ICH, rosiglitazone, and PPARγ antagonist (GW9662). Hematoxylin-eosin staining was used to observe the brain edema in the ICH rat model. The effect of rosiglitazone on the expression of OX-42, a microglial marker, was evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Immunohistochemistry, quantitative real-time PCR, and western blot were utilized to assess the role of rosiglitazone in the expression of PPARγ and CD36. RESULTS: ICH rats exhibited a remarkable brain edema at 72 h. OX-42 expression was significantly increased in brain tissues of ICH rats. Rosiglitazone remarkably promoted the OX-42 expression in ICH rats, whereas GW9662 suppressed OX-42 expression. In addition, immunohistochemistry analysis showed that rosiglitazone markedly enhanced the expression of PPARγ and CD36 in brain tissues around the hematoma in ICH rats, while GW9662 inhibited their expression in ICH rats. Moreover, rosiglitazone significantly promoted the mRNA and protein expression of PPARγ and CD36 in the brain tissues of ICH rats, while GW9662 showed the opposite trend. CONCLUSION: Rosiglitazone may improve microglial distribution via promoting the expression of PPARγ and CD36 around the hematoma in the ICH rat model, which may provide effective therapeutic targets for the treatment of ICH.

RESUMEN

The trees of the Dongzhai Harbor mangrove forest suffer from antibiotic contamination from surrounding aquaculture areas. Despite this being one of the largest mangrove forests in China, few studies have focused on the antibiotic pollution status in these aquaculture areas. In the present study, the occurrence, distribution, and risk assessment of 37 antibiotics in surface water and sediment samples from aquaculture areas around Dongzhai Harbor mangrove forests were analyzed. The concentration of total antibiotics (∑antibiotics) ranged from 78.4 ng/L to 225.6 ng/L in surface water (except S14-A2) and from 19.5 ng/g dry weight (dw) to 229 ng/g dw in sediment. In the sediment, the concentrations of ∑antibiotics were relatively low (19.5-52.3 ng/g dw) at 75 % of the sampling sites, while they were high (95.7-229.0 ng/g dw) at a few sampling sites (S13-A1, S13D, S8D). The correlation analysis results showed that the Kd values of the 9 antibiotics were significantly positively correlated with molecular weight (MW), Kow, and LogKow. Risk assessment revealed that sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in surface water and SMX, enoxacin (ENX), ciprofloxacin (CFX), enrofloxacin (EFX), ofloxacin (OFX), and norfloxacin (NFX) in sediment had medium/high risk quotients (RQs) at 62.5 % and 25-100 %, respectively, of the sampling sites. The antibiotic mixture in surface water (0.06-3.36) and sediment (0.43-309) posed a high risk at 37.5 % and 66.7 %, respectively, of the sampling sites. SMX was selected as an indicator of antibiotic pollution in surface water to assist regulatory authorities in monitoring and managing antibiotic pollution in the aquaculture zone of Dongzhai Harbor. Overall, the results of the present study provide a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the characteristics of antibiotics in the aquaculture environment around the Dongzhai Harbor mangrove system and provide a theoretical basis for the source control of antibiotics in mangrove systems.

RESUMEN

Recent advancements in optical convolutional neural networks (CNNs) and radar signal processing systems have brought an increasing need for the adoption of optical fast Fourier transform (OFFT). Presently, the fast Fourier transform (FFT) is executed using electronic means within prevailing architectures. However, this electronic approach faces limitations in terms of both speed and power consumption. Concurrently, existing OFFT systems struggle to balance the demands of large-scale processing and high precision simultaneously. In response, we introduce a novel, to the best of our knowledge, solution: a complex-valued matrix-vector system harnessed through wavelength selective switches (WSSs) for the realization of a 24-input optical FFT, achieving a high-accuracy level of 5.4 bits. This study capitalizes on the abundant wavelength resources available to present a feasible solution for an optical FFT system with a large N.

RESUMEN

The ultrasonic cell disruption method was used to efficiently extract isothiocyanates and other volatile compounds from radish microgreens. A total of 51 volatiles were identified and quantified by headspace solid-phase micro-extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS) in four radish microgreen cultivars, mainly including alcohols, aldehydes, isothiocyanates, sulfides, ketones, esters, terpenes, and hydrocarbons. The correlation between cultivars and volatile compounds was determined by chemometrics analysis, including principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering heat maps. The aroma profiles were distinguished based on the odor activity value (OAV), odor contribution rate (OCR), and radar fingerprint chart (RFC) of volatile compounds. This study not only revealed the different flavor characteristics in four cultivars but also established a theoretical basis for the genetic improvement of radish microgreen flavors.

RESUMEN

The optical switch is a crucial device in integrated photonic circuits. Among the various types of optical switches available, the on-off Mach-Zehnder interferometer is one of the most widely used structures. However, compared with other structures, such as a microring, the large footprint of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer significantly restricts the integration density. In this paper, we propose a compact Mach-Zehnder interferometer based on complex refractive index engineering. By manipulating the complex index of the material in the structure, the lateral size of the device can be compressed down to only 3.25 µm. Moreover, the reducing of the space between heaters and waveguides leads to a fast response of only 1.9 µs. Our work offers a new, to the best of our knowledge, approach of a compact integrated optical switch, and opens a new avenue for application of absorbing materials.

RESUMEN

The coral holobiont is mainly composed of coral polyps, zooxanthellae, and coral symbiotic microorganisms, which form the basis of coral reef ecosystems. In recent years, the severe degradation of coral reefs caused by climate warming and environmental pollution has aroused widespread concern. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is a widely distributed pollutant in the environment. However, the underlying mechanisms of coral symbiosis destruction due to the stress of BaP are not well understood. In this study, diaPASEF proteomics and 16S rRNA amplicon pyrosequencing technology were used to reveal the effects of 50 µg/L BaP on Montipora digitate. Data analysis was performed from the perspective of the main symbionts of M. digitata (coral polyps, zooxanthellae, and coral symbiotic microorganisms). The results showed that BaP impaired cellular antioxidant capacity by disrupting the GSH/GSSG cycle, and sustained stress causes severe impairment of energy metabolism and protein degradation in coral polyps. In zooxanthellae, BaP downregulated the protein expression of SOD2 and mtHSP70, which then resulted in oxidative free radical accumulation and apoptosis. For coral symbiotic microorganisms, BaP altered the community structure of microorganisms and decreased immunity. Coral symbiotic microorganisms adapted to the stress of BaP by adjusting energy metabolism and enhancing extracellular electron transfer. BaP adversely affected the three main symbionts of M. digitata via different mechanisms. Decreased antioxidant capacity is a common cause of damages to coral polyps and zooxanthellae, whereas coral symbiotic microorganisms are able to appropriately adapt to oxidative stress. This study assessed the effects of BaP on corals from a symbiotic perspective, which is more comprehensive and reliable. At the same time, data from the study supports new directions for coral research and coral reef protection.

RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Occupational exposure is a long-standing public health concern, which has drawn more and more attention in recent years to the problem of how to carry out occupational protection effectively. Gloves are regarded as the most critical protective equipment for cytotoxic medications. However, there is still little research conducted on the protective performance of gloves made of different materials and the optimal glove combination for cytotoxic agents. METHODS: In this research, a specific instrument intended for glove permeation experiment was designed, with various methods of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) developed and validated. By using the specific instrument and LC-MS/MS methods, a study was conducted on the permeation ability of eight selected cytotoxic drugs (fluorouracil, epirubicin (EPI), docetaxel (DCT), methotrexate (MTX), cyclophosphamide (CTX), etoposide (ETP), vincristine sulfate (VCR), and cisplatin derivatives Pt-(DDTC)3) into five kinds of gloves (rubber (RB), nitrile (NT), chlorinated polyethylene (CPE), low-density polyethylene, and polyvinylchloride (PVC) resin) given different contact times. Then, the experimental data were analyzed through a generalized estimation equation and Pearson correlation analysis. RESULTS: The results show that within a short period of time (less than five minutes), ETP, CTX, fluorouracil, DCT, and cisplatin passed through five types of gloves but the level of MTX, VCR, and EPI permeation was minimal, despite the duration of contact between the three drugs and the gloves reaching as long as three hours. Furthermore, the permeation of DCT and ETP was found to be positively correlated with time. CONCLUSIONS: Chlorinated polyethylene and PVC resin perform well in protecting against most cytotoxic drugs and are recommendable for clinical practice. Due to the poor protective ability, RB gloves are not recommended for this purpose. Based on the performance of various gloves in offering protection, the protection grade of two gloves can be deduced. Chlorinated polyethylene + PVC resin, CPE + NT glove combination shows good protective performance against most target drugs and can be recommended for clinical practice.

RESUMEN

White L. vannamei have become the most widely cultivated shrimp species worldwide. Cultivation of L. vannamei is one of the predominant sectors in China's aquaculture industry. This study focused on the physiological and biochemical responses, differential protein expression, and expression characteristics of the related crucial functional protein genes under low oxygen conditions among different strains of L. vannamei. It was found that 6 h of hypoxic stress caused a significant reduction in the total hemocyte number in both strains, while the hypoxia-sensitive strain showed a stronger reduction. In contrast, the hemocyanin concentration showed only an overall upward trend. Proteomic analysis of L. vannamei muscle tissue revealed 3,417 differential proteins after 12 h of hypoxic stress. Among them, 29 differentially expressed proteins were downregulated and 244 were upregulated in the hypoxia-sensitive strain. In contrast, there were only 10 differentially expressed proteins with a downregulation pattern and 25 with an upregulation pattern in the hypoxia-tolerant strain. Five protein genes that responded significantly to hypoxic stress were selected for quantitative real-time PCR analysis, namely, hemocyanin, chitinase, heat shock protein 90 (HSP 90), programmed death protein, and glycogen phosphorylase. The results showed that the gene expression patterns were consistent with proteomic experimental data except for death protein and glycogen phosphorylase. These results can enrich the general knowledge of hypoxic stress in L. vannamei and the information provided differentially expressed proteins which may be used to assist breeding programs of L. vannamei of new strains with tolerance to hypoxia.

RESUMEN

N 6-Methyladenosine (m6A) modification has been shown to play important role in skeletal muscle development. Wenchang chickens are commonly used as a high-quality animal model in researching meat quality. However, there have been no previous reports regarding the profile of m6A and its function in the embryonic breast muscle development of Wenchang chickens. In this paper, we identified different developmental stages of breast muscle in Wenchang chickens and performed m6A sequencing and miRNA sequencing in the breast muscle of embryos. Embryo breast muscles were weighed and stained with hematoxylin-eosin after hatching. We found that myofibers grew fast on the 10th day after hatching (E10) and seldom proliferated beyond the 19th day after hatching (E19). A total of 6,774 differentially methylated genes (DMGs) were identified between E10 and E19. For RNA-seq data, we found 5,586 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). After overlapping DEGs and DMGs, we recorded 651 shared genes (DEMGs). Subsequently, we performed miRNA-seq analysis and obtained 495 differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs). Then, we overlapped DEMGs and the target genes of DEMs and obtained 72 overlapped genes (called miRNA-m6A-genes in this study). GO and KEGG results showed DEMGs enriched in many muscle development-related pathways. Furthermore, we chose WNT7B, a key regulator of skeletal muscle development, to perform IGV visualization analysis and found that the m6A levels on the WNT7B gene between E10 and E19 were significantly different. In conclusion, we found that miRNAs, in conjunction with m6A modification, played a key role in the embryonic breast muscle development of Wenchang chickens. The results of this paper offer a theoretical basis for the study of m6A function in muscle development and fat deposition of Wenchang chickens.

RESUMEN

Osteoporosis is characterized by lowing bone mineral density. This study aimed to investigate the genes, miRNAs, pathways, and miRNA-gene interaction pairs involved in the pathogenesis of female osteoporosis. The differentially expressed genes (DEGs, GSE62402), differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs, GSE63446), and differentially methylated genes (GSE62588) between females with low- and high-hip bone mineral density were identified. Genes common to DEGs, differentially methylated genes, DEmiRNAs' targets, and osteoporosis-related genes were retained and used to construct the miRNA-mRNA-pathway regulatory network. The expression of hub nodes was validated in microarray datasets (genes in GSE56116 and miRNAs in GSE93883). Thirty-four DEmiRNAs and 179 DEGs with opposite expression-methylation profiles were identified. Functional enrichment analysis showed that DEGs were associated with pathways including "hsa00380:Tryptophan metabolism," "hsa04670:Leukocyte transendothelial migration," "hsa04630:Jak-STAT signaling pathway," and "hsa04062:Chemokine signaling pathway." The miRNA-mRNA-pathway network included 10 DEGs, 9 miRNAs, and 4 osteoporosis-related pathways. The miRNA-gene-pathway axes including hsa-miR-27b-5p/3p-IFNAR1-hsa04630, hsa-miR-30a-5p/3p-IFNAR1-hsa04630, hsa-miR-30a-5p/3p-ALDH2-hsa00380, and hsa-miR-194-5p/3p-NCF2-hsa04670 were included in the network. Microarray validation showed that IFNAR1, NCF2, and ALDH2 were upregulated, and hsa-miR-30a-3p/5p, hsa-miR-194-3p/5p, hsa-miR-27b-3p/5p, and hsa-miR-34a-3p were downregulated in osteoporotic samples compared with control. Axes including hsa-miR-27b/30a-IFNAR1-Jak-STAT signaling pathway, hsa-miR-30a-ALDH2-Tryptophan metabolism, and hsa-miR-194-NCF2-Leukocyte transendothelial migration were involved in osteoporosis pathogenesis.

RESUMEN

Ordered heterojunction nanocap arrays composed of the bilayer film Ag/ZnS were prepared onto ordered two-dimensional polystyrene bead arrays by magnetron control sputtering, and the surface morphologies were tuned by changing the ZnS thickness. When the ZnS thickness varied from 10 to 30 nm with a Ag thickness of 5 nm, the roughness of the bilayer film Ag/ZnS increased obviously. The UV-VIS spectra showed the shifted LSPR peaks with ZnS thickness, which was attributed to the changes of the electron density as confirmed by Hall effect analysis. SERS observations confirmed the charge transfer process for the varied electromagnetic couplings when the ZnS thickness changed.

RESUMEN

Cemented paste backfill (CPB), a technology placing the solid waste into mined-out stopes in the mine through pipeline transportation, has been widespread all over the world. The resistance loss is an important parameter for pipeline transport, which is significantly affected by the slurry characteristics. However, the coupling effect of inlet velocity (IV), particle mass concentration (PMC), and particle size (PS) has not been well evaluated and diagnosed. Hence, the CFD-based three-dimensional network simulation of CPB slurry flow in an L-shaped pipe at different combinations of the three parameters was developed using COMSOL Multiphysics software, and the findings were validated through a loop experiment. The results show that increasing IV and reducing PS will contribute to the homogeneity of the slurry in the pipeline, while the PMC presents little effect. The pipe resistance loss is positively correlated with IV and PMC and negatively correlated with PS. The sensitivity to the three parameters is IV > PS > PMC. In particular, the resistance loss is minimal at IV of 1.5 m/s, PMC of 72%, and PS of 1000 um. The calculation model of resistance loss regressed from simulation presented a high accuracy with an error of 8.1% compared with the test results. The findings would be important for the design of the CPB pipeline transportation and provide guidance in the selection of transfer slurry pumps, prepreparation of backfill slurry, and pipe blockage, which will improve the safety and economic level of a mine.

RESUMEN

The symbiosis of corals, zooxanthellae, and microbes is the foundation of the coral reef ecosystem. In addition to global warming, marine pollutants are another important factor causing the breakdown of coral symbiosis. Benzo(a)pyrene (BaP) is a globally widespread marine environmental pollutant that poses a severe threat to marine ecosystems. However, responses of coral symbionts to global marine pollutant stress remain unclear. In this study, we selected Acropora formosa as the target coral to explore its response to 50 µg L-1 BaP stress using diaPASEF proteomics and 16s rRNA microbiome analysis. The results showed that: 1) the coral symbionts were sensitive to BaP stress; 2) the photosynthetic system of zooxanthellae was crucial for the balance of symbiotic relationships; 3) the destruction of the photosynthetic system induced a zooxanthellae hypoxic stress response; 4) corals adapted to BaP stress by promoting non-essential protein degradation and changing energy metabolism strategies; 5) symbiotic bacteria showed strong adaptability to BaP. This study not only fills the gap in understanding the response mechanism of coral symbionts under BaP stress, but also provides fundamental data for coral reef protection strategies.

RESUMEN

Purpose: To evaluate changes in the levator palpebrae superioris (LPS) muscle on 3.0 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) after triamcinolone acetonide injection for treating upper lid retraction (ULR) with Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) and to explore the value of LPS muscle quantitative measurement for clinical treatment. Methods: Patients with GO showing ULR were studied retrospectively and they underwent 3.0 T MRI scans before and after subconjunctival injection o f triamcinolone acetonide. The largest thickness (T) and highest signal intensity (SI) of LPS muscle on the affected eyes were measured in the sequences of coronal T2-weighted, fat-suppressed fast spin echo imaging (T2WI-fs) and T1-weighted, fat-suppressed, contrast-enhanced fast spin echo imaging (T1WI-fs + C), respectively. The SI ratio (SIR) (LPS muscle SI/ipsilateral temporalis SI) was calculated individually. Depending on the therapeutic effect, patients were divided into effective group and non-effective group. Independent t-test was used to compare SIR and T of LPS muscle in different treatment groups before treatment, and paired sample t-test was used to compare SIR and T of LPS muscle before and after treatment. Then cut-off level for predicting therapeutic effect and the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) curve were analyzed. Results: Sixty-two patients (77 eyes) were enrolled. After treatment, the T of LPS muscle showed significant decrease in all sequences in both effective and non-effective treatment groups. However, changes in SIR of LPS muscle in the two groups were different; SIR of LPS muscle on T2WI-fs and T1WI-fs + C decreased after treatment in the effective group (PT2 < 0.001, PT1 + C < 0.001) and SIR of LPS muscle showed no statistically difference in all sequences (all P > 0.05) in the non-effective group. There was a correlation between SIR of LPS muscle before treatment and after treatment with triamcinolone acetonide injection, which was that SIR of LPS muscle in the effective treatment group was lower than that in the non-effective treatment group on T1WI-fs + C (P < 0.001). SIR of LPS muscle on T1WI-fs + C showed 87.5% sensitivity and 66.7% specificity to predict therapeutic effect (area under the ROC curve [AUC] = 0.840). Conclusion: In GO patients with ULR, 3.0 T MRI can be used to evaluate the response of triamcinolone acetonide injection. SIR of LPS may be a predictor of its efficacy.

RESUMEN

Matrix computation, as a fundamental building block of information processing in science and technology, contributes most of the computational overheads in modern signal processing and artificial intelligence algorithms. Photonic accelerators are designed to accelerate specific categories of computing in the optical domain, especially matrix multiplication, to address the growing demand for computing resources and capacity. Photonic matrix multiplication has much potential to expand the domain of telecommunication, and artificial intelligence benefiting from its superior performance. Recent research in photonic matrix multiplication has flourished and may provide opportunities to develop applications that are unachievable at present by conventional electronic processors. In this review, we first introduce the methods of photonic matrix multiplication, mainly including the plane light conversion method, Mach-Zehnder interferometer method and wavelength division multiplexing method. We also summarize the developmental milestones of photonic matrix multiplication and the related applications. Then, we review their detailed advances in applications to optical signal processing and artificial neural networks in recent years. Finally, we comment on the challenges and perspectives of photonic matrix multiplication and photonic acceleration.

RESUMEN

Coral reefs are suffering from environmental change and anthropogenic disturbances. It is well known that microbes play an indispensable role in the stable state of coral reef health. Furthermore, the coral reef microbial database helps to understand the connections among microbiomes shifts and ecosystem stress. Hainan Province is the main coral reef distribution area in China. Therefore, targeted microbial reference information from Hainan, including several coral microbiomes, was generated by 16S rRNA gene sequencing in this study. This study focused on a small range of coral-associated bacterial information and found a relationship between microbes and the surrounding environment based on coral interspecific and environmental factors. Interestingly, compared with species, the differences of bacterial community structures are best explained by site. It seems that various environmental factors contribute more to the microbial structure of corals than interspecific influences.

RESUMEN

As an important computing operation, photonic matrix-vector multiplication is widely used in photonic neutral networks and signal processing. However, conventional incoherent matrix-vector multiplication focuses on real-valued operations, which cannot work well in complex-valued neural networks and discrete Fourier transform. In this paper, we propose a systematic solution to extend the matrix computation of microring arrays from the real-valued field to the complex-valued field, and from small-scale (i.e., 4 × 4) to large-scale matrix computation (i.e., 16 × 16). Combining matrix decomposition and matrix partition, our photonic complex matrix-vector multiplier chip can support arbitrary large-scale and complex-valued matrix computation. We further demonstrate Walsh-Hardmard transform, discrete cosine transform, discrete Fourier transform, and image convolutional processing. Our scheme provides a path towards breaking the limits of complex-valued computing accelerator in conventional incoherent optical architecture. More importantly, our results reveal that an integrated photonic platform is of huge potential for large-scale, complex-valued, artificial intelligence computing and signal processing.
