The impact of a bundle to prevent hospital-acquired pneumonia in a cohort of nonventilated patients on enteral nutrition.

We conducted a quasi-experimental study to evaluate a bundle to prevent nonventilator hospital-acquired pneumonia (NV-HAP) in patients on enteral tube feeding. After the intervention, there was an increase in bundle compliance from 55.9% to 70.5% (P < .01) and a significant decrease (34%) in overall NV-HAP rates from 5.71 to 3.77 of 1,000 admissions.

[Outpatient nursing consultation and nursing diagnoses related to demographic and clinical characteristics]. / Consulta de enfermagem ambulatorial e diagnósticos de enfermagem relacionados a características demograficas e clínicas.

This study was aimed at verifyjing the relationship between demographic and clinicalfeatures and nursing diagnoses established during a nurse consultation in a general hospital. This is a cross-sectional study that assessed 237 nursing consultations of patients in two different programs Women's Health (46 in obstetrical nursing and 24 in mastology nursing) and 167 in diabetes mellitus education. A total of 49 nursing diagnoses were identified. The most frequent in the women's health program were: knowledge deficit, impaired comfort, impaired tissue, integrity and anxiety; in the program of diabetes education were: ineffective therapeutic regimen management, and imbalanced nutrition: more than body requirements. There was a significant association between the most common diagnoses with certain demographic and clinical features. The results confirmed that the identification of the nursing diagnoses during the consultation may provide accuracy in the focus of outpatient care.

[Nursing consultation in a health vigilance program: the Prá-Nenê experience]. / Consulta de enfermagem em um programa de vigilância a saúde: vivências do Prá-Nenê.

This study focus on describing the opinion of the parents of children belonging to the "For-Baby Program", about the educational activities in health performed by the nurses in a nursing consultation at a Health Basic Unit of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This program develops vigilant actions on children's health in their first year of life. It is about a qualitative descriptive exploratory research, carried out with fifteen individuals, by individual semi-structured interviews. The information was analyzed according to the technique of Content Analysis. The perception of the families on the activities of the nurses was presented in two categories: establishment of a helping relationship with the users, and orientations that collaborate with the development of the children. In the opinion of the families, the activities of the nurses were performed by a qualified professional which actually satisfies the premises of health promotion.

[Ethnography and ethnonursing: research methods in nursing]. / Etnografia e etnoenfermagem: métodos de pesquisa em enfermagem.

This paper aims to review the literature about the qualitative ethnographic research method, and its application in nursing, describing one of the authors experience while writing a master's dissertation. Both methods, ethnography and ethnonursing, are presented with their specific proposals and phases. Leininger's ideas are enhanced since it was this author who revealed to nursing the importance to comprehend culture, allowing to give care which is coherent to each ones beliefs and values. The study allowed to better know the research methods and it is wished that it contributes to deepen the knowledge about them, stimulating their use.
