Thechemical composition, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of the essential oil from aerial parts (leaves and flowers) of Chuquiraga arcuataHarling grown in the Ecuadorian Andes were studied. One hundred and twenty-six compounds were identified in the essential oil. Monoterpene hydrocarbons (45.8%) and oxygenated monoterpenes (44.1%) had the major percentages. The most abundant compounds were camphor (21.6%), myrcene (19.5%), and 1,8-cineole (13.4%). Antioxidant activity was examined using DPPH, ABTS,and FRAP assays. The essential oil had a moderate scavenging effect and reduction of ferric ion capacity through FRAP assay. Antimicrobial activity of the essential oil was observed against four pathogenic bacteria and a fungus. The essential oil exhibited activity against all microorganism strains under test, particularly against Candida albicansand Staphylococcus aureuswith MICs of 2.43-12.10 µg/mL.


Se estudió la composición química, actividades antioxidantes y antimicrobianas del aceite esencial procedente de las partes aérea (hojas y flores) de Chuquiraga arcuataHarling cultivadas en los Andes ecuatorianos. Se identificaron 126 compuestos en el aceite esencial. Los hidrocarburos monoterpénicos (45,8%) y los monoterpenos oxigenados (44,1%) tuvieron el mayor porcentaje. Los compuestos más abundantes fueron alcanfor (21,6%), mirceno (19,5%) y 1,8-cineol (13,4%). La actividadantioxidante se examinó mediante ensayos DPPH, ABTS y FRAP. El aceite esencial tuvo un efecto eliminador moderado y una reducción de la capacidad de iones férricos mediante el ensayo FRAP. Se observó actividad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial contra cuatro bacterias y un hongo patógenos. El aceite esencial mostró actividad contra todas las cepas de microorganismos bajo prueba, particularmente contra Candida albicansy Staphylococcus aureuscon CMI de 2,43-12,10 µg/mL.

The application of plant essential oils in the food industry is often hindered by their poor water solubility and high volatilize. Encapsulation has emerged as an effective solution to this problem. This study focuses on the preparation of Fructus Ligustri Lucidi essential oil gel spheres (FEOH) based sodium alginate and gelatin. The optimum formulation for FEOH was established by Box-Behnken Design response surface testing, resulting in a composition of 10 % FEO, 5 % TW20 and 2 % CaCl2. This formulation achieved an encapsulation efficiency of 85.56 %. FTIR and SEM results indicated the successful encapsulation of FEO within the gel spheres. Furthermore, DSC and TGA results showed that encapsulation enhanced the thermal stability of the essential oil. At room temperature, the water content of FEOH exceeded 90 %, and it showed the highest swelling ratio of 62.5 % in an alkaline medium at different pH conditions. The in vitro release behavior showed that FEOH was released up to 85.28 % in oil-based food simulants within 2 h. FEOH showed strong antibacterial activity, with a Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of 128 mg/mL against Staphylococcus aureus and 256 mg/mL against Escherichia coli. The gel spheres obtained in this research show significant potential as food preservatives in food matrices.

Bupleurum chinense polysaccharide has a wide range of biological activities. In this study, Bupleurum chinense polysaccharides (BPs), BPs-1 (30 kDa) and BPs-2 (2000 kDa) with different molecular weights were isolated and prepared by ultrafiltration interception method. The structures of BPs, BPs-1 and BPs-2 were characterised by monosaccharide composition, GC-MS, Fourier transform infra-red spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance. The results showed that the monosaccharide composition of BPs with different molecular weights was the same, but the proportion was different. BPs, BPs-1 and BPs-2 were mainly connected by Glup-(1→,→2,4)-Araf-(1→,→6)-Glup-(1→). The anti-inflammatory activity screening experiment in vitro showed that BPs-1 had stronger anti-inflammatory effect. Antioxidant experiments showed that BPs-2 had high free radical scavenging activity. This study laid a foundation for elucidating the fine structure and structure-activity relationship of Bupleurum chinense polysaccharides and will promote the product development of Bupleurum chinense polysaccharides.

This study attempts to reveal antioxidants in the plant parts of Myxopyrum smilacifolium (Wall.) Blume using antioxidant assays and LC-MS/MS analysis. Methanol is the most effective solvent for collecting antioxidants. The roots-derived methanol extract demonstrates the greatest antioxidant activity, corresponding to the extremely low IC50 values of 16.39 µg/mL and 19.80 µg/mL for DPPH and ABTS radicals, respectively. The high phenolic and flavonoid contents are the primary reason for outstanding total antioxidant capacity (TAC; i.e. 247.73 ± 1.62 mg GA/g or 163.93 ± 0.83 mg AS/g) of the root extract. LC-MS/MS quantification of five phenolic compounds reveals exceptionally high amounts of quercetin and luteolin in the root extract, ranging from 238.86 ± 5.74 to 310.99 ± 1.44 µg/g and from 201.49 ± 7.84 to 234.10 ± 2.54 µg/g, respectively, in the root-derived methanol extract. The achievement highlights M. smilacifolium as a promising source of natural antioxidants for large-scale medical applications.

BACKGROUND: The global prevalence of iron deficiency has posed significant public health risks. Animal-derived collagen peptides have been recognized for their potent metal ion-chelating capabilities, which can greatly enhance the bioavailability of iron. Yak skins, typically discarded during production and processing, serve as a valuable resource. Based on yak skin collagen peptide (YSP), we have developed a novel iron-chelating peptide: yak skin collagen iron-chelating peptide (YSP-Fe). RESULTS: The maximum level of iron chelation of YSP-Fe achieved was 42.72 ± 0.65 mg g-1. Structural analysis indicated that YSP-Fe was primarily formed from amino, carboxyl and carbonyl groups combined with ferrous ions. Through examination of the amino acid composition, molecular docking and peptide sequence identification, it was determined that Gly, Asp and Arg played crucial roles in the chelation of ferrous ions by YSP. Furthermore, YSP-Fe was more stable in simulated gastrointestinal digestion compared to FeSO4. CONCLUSION: YSP-Fe demonstrated dual benefits of iron supplementation and antioxidant effects. These significant findings provide a foundation for the development of novel iron supplements and the effective utilization of yak skin as a valuable resource. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

A novel style of flavored wine was developed via infusion of either black tea or green tea into Chardonnay wine. The bioaccessibility and bioavailability of phenolic substances in green/black tea-infused Chardonnay wine were investigated. Catechin, caffeine, and epicatechin gallate, originating from the tea, displayed high absorption rates with apparent permeability coefficient values above 10 × 10-6 cm/s in a human Caco-2 intestinal cell model. A paracellular pathway was proposed to drive the transport of catechin and epicatechin gallate, while the possible transport pathway of caffeine is passive transcellular diffusion route. Co-supplementation of flavonoids of quercetin or naringenin (20 µM) could further enhance the uptake of catechin and epicatechin gallate, but reduce the absorption of caffeine. Great in vitro and cellular antioxidant capacities were witnessed in the tea-macerated wine samples. The wine samples also neutralized the negative impact of tert-butyl hydroperoxide (25 µM) on glutathione S-transferase and glutathione levels, apoptosis induction, and intracellular malondialdehyde levels. RNA sequencing with limma method revealed a total of 1473 and 406 differentially expressed genes in the 21-day-old Caco-2 intestinal cells treated with the green and black tea-macerated wines for 5 h respectively, indicating metabolic changes in the cells from the different wines.

BACKGROUND: Java tea is widely consumed and has multiple health effects. This study established a steam explosion (SE) pretreatment method to prepare Java tea-leaf powders. The physicochemical, functional properties, phenolic extraction, and antioxidant activity of Java tea-leaf powders produced by simple and SE-assisted milling methods were investigated. RESULTS: In comparison with simple milling, SE pretreatment broke the cell wall effectively and reduced the particle size of Java tea-leaf powders. Steam explosion-treated powders showed higher values for sensory signals, bulk and tap density, and for the water solubility index. After SE treatment, the adsorption capacities to glucose, soybean oil, and cholesterol of leaf powders were increased by up to 55, 95, and 80% respectively. The extracts from SE-treated powders also showed higher total polyphenol content and antioxidant activity. CONCLUSION: Steam explosion treatment is helpful for the improvement of functional properties and antioxidant activity, which can benefit the development and application of Java tea-leaf powders. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

After successfully addressing to mitigate bitterness of naringin through construction Pickering emulsion using pea protein (PP) and naringin (NG) in our previous study, we now probed thermal stability, antioxidant efficacy, and bioavailability. FTIR analysis and UV-vis spectroscopy indicated predominant interactions between PP and NG were hydrogen and hydrophobic bonds. TGA and DSC analyses demonstrated that PP-NG complexes exhibited superior heat-resistance compared to pure PP and NG. Thermal stability assessments indicated a significant retention of NG in the PP-NG Pickering emulsion than the control NG across varied temperatures (4 °C, 25 °C, 37 °C, and 65 °C). Moreover, the antioxidant activity of PP-NG emulsion was dependent on the concentration of NG, as evidenced by DPPH and ABTS free radicals scavenging abilities, ferric reducing power, and lipid peroxidation resistance. Additionally, PP-NG Pickering emulsion exhibited substantially high bioavailability (92.01 ± 3.91%). These results suggest a promising avenue for the application of NG with improved characteristics.

The aim of the present study was to provide a first characterization of lacto-fermented garlic manufactured by local small-scale artisanal producers in the Lower Silesia Region (Poland). The lacto-fermented garlic samples showed high nutritional features in terms of antioxidant activity. A total of 86 compounds, belonging to various chemical classes, were identified by headspace solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME-GC/MS). Most of these compounds belonged to six main classes, being sulfur compounds, esters and acetates, oxygenated monoterpenes, monoterpene hydrocarbons, and alcohols. Aldehydes, acids, ketones, furans, and phenols were also identified. In the analyzed samples, counts up to 8 log cfu g-1 were observed for lactic acid bacteria. Metataxonomic analysis revealed the presence of Levilactobacillus, Lactiplantibacillus, Latilactobacillus, Secundilactobacillus, Weissella, Leuconostoc, Lactococcus, Pediococcus, and Lacticaseibacillus among the major taxa. These results were confirmed by the isolation and characterization of viable lactic acid bacteria. Indeed, the presence of the closest relatives to Lacticaseibacillus casei group, Pediococcus parvulus, Levilactobacillus brevis, Levilactobacillus parabrevis, and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum group was observed. A good acidification performance in salty garlic-based medium was observed for all the isolates that, between 8 and 15 days of fermentation, reached pH values comprised between 4 and 3.5, depending on the tested species. Of note, 15 out of the 37 lactic acid bacteria isolates (Levilactobacillus parabrevis, Pediococcus parvulus, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum group, and Lacticaseibacillus casei group) showed the presence of the hdcA gene of Gram-positive bacteria encoding for histidine decarboxylase. Furthermore, for 8 out of the 37 isolates the in-vitro exopolysaccharides production was observed. No isolate showed inhibitory activity against the three Listeria innocua strains used as surrogate for Listeria monocytogenes.

This study investigated the production of antioxidant peptides from Porphyra yezoensis through fermentation with three strains of microorganisms: Lactiplantibacillus plantarum L13, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens MMB-02, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae A8. The crude peptides were extracted by aqueous acid precipitation and purified by Sephadex G-25 gel column to produce highly active antioxidant components with molecular weight of <4000 Da. The LC-MS/MS result revealed that the fermentation group contained more hydrophobic amino acids and oligopeptides, which were mainly originated from phycobiliproteins and algal blue proteins. Finally, the antioxidant activity of Porphyra yezoensis was determined with DPPH· and ABTS· scavenging rates of 54.87% and 57.39%, respectively. The ferric ion-reducing power (FRAP) and enzyme activities of SOD and CAT were significantly higher than those of the control group. This study provides a scientific foundation for the deep processing of striped seaweed and contributes to the theoretical understanding of synthetic antioxidant substitutes.

Soybean is scientifically known as Glycine max. It belongs to the Fabaceae family. It consists of a lot of bioactive phytochemicals like saponin, phenolic acid, flavonoid, sphingolipids and phytosterols. It also owns excellent immune-active effects in the physiological system. Soy and its phytochemicals have been found to have pharmacological properties that include anticancer, antioxidant, anti-hypercholesterolaemic, anti-diabetic, oestrogenic, anti-hyperlipidaemic, anti-inflammatory, anti-obesity, anti-hypertensive, anti-mutagenic, immunomodulatory, anti-osteoporotic, antiviral, hepatoprotective, antimicrobial, goitrogenic anti-skin ageing, wound healing, neuroprotective and anti-photoageing activities. Present study has been designed to set standard pharmacognostical extraction method, complexation of compounds, qualitative evaluation through phytochemical screening, identification by TLC, physicochemical properties, solubility profile, total phenolic, flavonoid content as well as analytical evaluation or characterisation like UV and FT-IR of methanolic extract of G. max. The final observations like physicochemical properties such as total ash value, LOD and pH were recorded. Phytochemical screenings show the presence of flavonoid, alkaloid, saponin, carbohydrate, tannins, protein, gums and mucilage, fixed oils and fats. The results were found significant. Further in silico studies proved creatinine and euparin to be potent wound healing agents.

Table olives are one of the most known fruit consumed as fermented food, being a fundamental component of the Mediterranean diet. Their production and consumption continue to increase globally and represent an important economic source for the producing countries. One of the most stimulating challenges for the future is the modernization of olive fermentation process. Besides the demand for more reproducible and safer production methods that could be able to reduce product losses and potential risks, producers and consumers are increasingly attracted by the final product characteristics and properties on human health. In this study, the contribution of microbial starters to table olives was fully described in terms of specific enzymatic and microbiological profiles, nutrient components, fermentation-derived compounds, and content of bioactive compounds. The use of microbial starters from different sources was tested considering their technological features and potential ability to improve the functional traits of fermented black table olives. For each fermentation assay, the effects of controlled temperature (kept at 20 °C constantly) versus not controlled environmental conditions (oscillating between 7 and 17 °C), as well as the consequences of the pasteurization treatment were tested on the final products. Starter-driven fermentation strategies seemed to increase both total phenolic content and total antioxidant activity. Herein, among all the tested microbial starters, we provide data indicating that two bacterial strains (Leuconostoc mesenteroides KT 5-1 and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum BC T3-35), and two yeast strains (Saccharomyces cerevisiae 10A and Debaryomyces hansenii A15-44) were the better ones related to enzyme activities, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity. We also demonstrated that the fermentation of black table olives under not controlled environmental temperature conditions was more promising than the controlled level of 20 °C constantly in terms of technological and functional properties considered in this study. Moreover, we confirmed that the pasteurization process had a role in enhancing the levels of antioxidant compounds.

OBJECTIVE: Optimization of the extraction process of total flavonoids from Morus nigra Linn. based on response surface design, to compare the differences in total flavonoid content of Morus nigra Linn. from different origins in Xinjiang and its relationship with antioxidant activity. METHODS: A one-way test was used to investigate the effects of ethanol volume fraction, material-liquid ratio, ultrasonic power and ultrasonic time on total flavonoid content analysis of Morus nigra Linn. , Box-Behnken response surface design optimisation was used to derive the optimal extraction process parameters. Meanwhile, the in vitro antioxidant activity of Morus nigra Linn. was evaluated by antioxidant activity indexes such as hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity and ferric ion reducing capacity. RESULTS: The optimal extraction condition was 45% ethanol by volume, 1∶20 g/mL material-liquid ratio, 300W ultrasound power and 60 min ultrasound time. The total flavonoid content of Morus nigra Linn. s from six origins was detected and the result showed that Kuche >Kashgar >Kuche Wuqia Town>Hetian >Ying jisha >Yutian, in which the total flavonoid content of mulberry in Kucha city was(27.159±0.091)mg/g. The difference in the total flavonoid content of Morus nigra Linn. s in different origicns was statistically significant(P<0.05). In vitro antioxidant activity analysis showed that the antioxidant activity of mulberry from Kuche and Hetian was stronger, and the hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity, ferric ion reducing capacity, and total antioxidant capacity of mulberry from various origins were statistically significant(P<0.05). The correlation analysis showed that the total flavonoid content of Morus nigra Linn. was correlated with the antioxidant capacity to improve the scavenging of hydroxyl radicals. CONCLUSION: The ultrasonic-assisted method of extracting total flavonoids from Morus nigra Linn. is simple, and the model constructed has a high degree of fit, which can better compare the total flavonoids content of Morus nigra Linn. from different origins in Xinjiang.

Dendrobium officinale Kimura & Migo (D. officinale) has been widely used as Chinese medicine and functional food. In present study, the structural characteristics of anthocyanins in D. officinale were investigated by ultra-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector (UPLC-DAD) and ultra-performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole-time of flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS). Totally, 14 anthocyanins were detected and identified, and 13 of them were first reported in D. officinale. Results showed that the vast majority of anthocyanins had multi-glycosylated cyanidin core, with variable acylation pattern mainly comprising phenolic acids. The composition and content of anthocyanins in D. officinale stems with different cultivation modes and years have been compared. The anthocyanins showed potent antioxidant activity in terms of radicals scavenging capacity and reducing power, as well as superior α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. The results provided a complete profile of anthocyanins in D. officinale and laid a foundation for further utilizing them as functional foods.

Xylooligosaccharides (XOs) have shown high potential as prebiotics with nutritional and health benefits. In this work, XOs were obtained from highly purified, carboxy-reduced glucuronoarabinoxylans by treatment with Driselase®. The mixtures were fractionated, and the structures were elucidated by methylation analysis and NMR spectroscopy. Antioxidant activity was determined by the methods of DPPH and ß-carotene/linoleic acid. It was found that the most active oligosaccharides (P3 and G3) comprised 4 or 5 xylose units, plus two arabinoses and one 4-O-methylglucose as side chains, their sequence of units was determined. The optimal concentration for their use as antioxidants was 2 mg/mL. The synthetic antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT, 0.2 mg/mL) showed a percentage of inhibition 15% higher than P3. Although its concentration was ∼10 times higher, P3 is non-toxic, and could have great advantages as food additive. These results show that pure XOs exert significant antioxidant activity, only due to their carbohydrate nature.

Phytochemical investigation of the methanol extract from the fruits of Macaranga monandra (Euphorbiaceae Muell. et Arg.) afforded one new geranylated 1',2'-dihydrophenanthrene and two new flavonoid derivatives, named macamondrin (1), macamondrione A (2) and B (3) respectively. The structures of these compounds were elucidated mainly by NMR, mass spectral data and in comparison with data from the literature. Along with compounds 1-3, nine known compounds among which oleanolic acid (4); daucosterol (5); 3ß-acetoxy-11α,12α-epoxytaraxerol (6); 3,3',4-tri-O-methylellagic acid (7); 3,3',4,4'-tetra-O-methylellagic acid (8); 4'-O-methyl-6-isoprenylapigenin (9); 4'-O-methyl-8 isoprenylkaempférol (10); 4'-O-methyl-6-isoprénylkaempférol (11); 6-isoprénylkaempférol (12), were also isolated. Crude extracts as well as isolated compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant activity using the ABTS, DPPH and FRAP methods. It appears that the 50 % radical scavenging concentrations ranging from 6.26 to 11.7 µg/ml on the ABTS radical, from 1.77 to 48.22 µg/ml on the DPPH radical, and from 1.54 to 67.97 µg/ml with the FRAP method. For the compounds tested, very good antioxidant activities were observed, which clearly shows that these molecules can have an anti oxidative stress potentiel.

The use of nanotechnology in food production (in particular protein base nanoemulsion) is a solution that is gaining popularity, which allows to design of smart food with targeted health-promoting properties. This study aimed to assess the impact of the dose of the phytochemical extract (1%; 3%; 5% w/w) comprising isolated lipophilic compounds from Calendula officinalis L. on selected physicochemical properties of the emulsion, antioxidant, antidiabetic and antiaging effects, and its impact on carotenoids content and their in vitro bioavailability. The results showed that the use of a 3% extract dosage appears to be optimal for obtaining a nanoemulsion. This variant was characterized by the highest antidiabetic activity and there was no overloading of the nanostructure. Additionally, the use of a pea protein - lipophilic compounds - sunflower/hemp oil matrix to create nanoforms seems to be a promising solution in the context of pro-health properties and bioavailability of bioactive compounds.

Allelopathy is a biological process in which one organism releases biochemicals that affect the growth and development of other organisms. The current investigation sought to determine the allelopathic effect of Rumex acetosella on white clover (Trifolium repens) growth and development by using its shoot extract (lower IC50 value) as a foliar treatment. Here, different concentrations (25, 50, 100, and 200 g/L) of shoot extract from Rumex acetosella were used as treatments. With increasing concentrations of shoot extract, the plant growth parameters, chlorophyll and total protein content of Trifolium repens decreased. On the other hand, ROS, such as O2.- and H2O2, and antioxidant enzymes, including SOD, CAT, and POD, increased with increasing shoot extract concentration. A phytohormonal study indicated that increased treatment concentrations increased ABA and SA levels while JA levels were reduced. For the identification of allelochemicals, liquid‒liquid extraction, thin-layer chromatography, and open-column chromatography were conducted using R. acetosella shoot extracts, followed by a seed bioassay on the separated layer. A lower IC50 value was obtained through GC/MS analysis. gammaSitosterol was identified as the most abundant component. The shoot extract of Rumex acetosella has strong allelochemical properties that may significantly impede the growth and development of Trifolium repens. This approach could help to understand the competitive abilities of this weed species and in further research provide an alternate weed management strategy.

Twenty flavonoids (1-20) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Sedum japonicum var. senanense endemic to Japan. Among them, nine compounds were reported in nature for the first time, and identified as herbacetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-(2‴-acetylxyloside) (2), gossypetin 8-O-(2″-acetylxyloside) (4), gossypetin 8-O-(3″-acetylxyloside) (5), gossypetin 3-O-glucoside-8-O-(3‴-acetylxyloside) (9), gossypetin 3-O-glucoside-8-O-(2‴,3‴-diacetylxyloside) (10), gossypetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-xyloside (11), gossypetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-(2⁗-acetylxyloside) (12), gossypetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-(3⁗-acetylxyloside) (13) and gossypetin 3-O-glucoside-8-O-xylofuranoside (14) by UV spectral survey, HR-MS, LC-MS, acid hydrolysis, NMR including 1H and 13C NMR, COSY, NOESY, HSQC and HMBC. Moreover, nine major flavonoids were surveyed for antioxidant activity by H-ORAC method. As the results, gossypetin 3-O-glucoside-8-O-(2‴-acetylxyoside) (8) showed the highest antioxidant activity. Conversely, gossypetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-xyloside (11) and gossypetin 3-O-neohesperidoside-8-O-(2⁗-acetylxyloside) (12) which attach neohesperidose showed the lowest values.

BACKGROUND: This study investigates a novel idea about the foliar application of nanoparticles as nanofertilizer combined with a natural stimulant, blue-green algae Spirulina platensis L. extract, as a bio-fertilizer to achieve safety from using nanoparticles for enhancement of the growth and production of the plant. Thus, this experiment aimed to chemically synthesize copper nanoparticles via copper sulfate in addition to evaluate the impact of CuNPs at 500, 1000, and 1500 mg/L and the combination of CuNPs with or without microalgae extract at 0.5, 1, and 1.5 g/L on the morphological parameters, photosynthetic pigments accumulation, essential oil production, and antioxidant activity of French basil. RESULTS: The results revealed that foliar application of CuNPs and its interaction with spirulina extract significantly increased growth and yield compared with control, the treatments of 1000 and 1500 mg/L had less impact than 500 mg/L CuNPs. Plants treated with 500 mg/L CuNPs and 1.5 g/L spirulina extract showed the best growth and oil production, as well as the highest accumulation of chlorophylls and carotenoids. The application of CuNPs nanofertilizer caused a significant increase in the antioxidant activity of the French basil plant, but the combination of CuNPs with spirulina extract caused a decrease in antioxidant activity. CONCULOSION: Therefore, foliar application of natural bio-fertilizer with CuNPsis necessary for obtaining the best growth and highest oil production from the French basil plant with the least damage to the plant and the environment.
