RESUMEN

Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) may manifest as large masses in the abdominopelvic region that exhibit mobility and shifting, potentially leading to diagnostic uncertainty both before and after treatment. A meticulous analysis of PET/CT scans is advantageous in accurately identifying the precise location of large abdominopelvic masses. Tumor heterogeneity may be present in NETs with large abdominopelvic masses and may be easily identified on dual-tracer (68Ga-DOTATATE and 18F-FDG) PET/CT scans. In this scenario, the combined use of chemotherapy and peptide receptor radionuclide therapy is a more effective treatment option than monotherapy. Here, we present a case of a NET with wandering, large, heterogeneous masses in the abdominopelvic regions that were identified using dual-tracer PET/CT. After the administration of temozolomide chemotherapy in a combined chemotherapy-peptide receptor radionuclide therapy approach, we observed an upregulation in the expression of somatostatin receptor in the abdominopelvic masses.

Heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) are harmful byproducts in food heating. Therefore, exploring the prediction and generation patterns of HAAs is of great significance. In this study, genetic algorithm (GA) and support vector regression (SVR) are used to establish a prediction model of HAAs based on heating conditions, reveal the influence of heating temperature and time on the precursor and formation of HAAs in roast beef, and study the formation rules of HAAs under different processing conditions. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the effect on HAAs generation increases with the increase of heating temperature and time. The GA-SVR model exhibited near-zero absolute errors and regression correlation coefficients (R) close to 1 when predicting HAAs contents. The GA-SVR model can be applied for real-time monitoring of HAAs in grilled beef, providing technical support for controlling hazardous substances and intelligent processing of heat-processed meat products.

The burgeoning demand for durable and eco-friendly road infrastructure necessitates the exploration of innovative materials and methodologies. This study investigates the potential of Graphene Oxide (GO), a nano-material known for its exceptional dispersibility and mechanical reinforcement capabilities, to enhance the sustainability and durability of concrete pavements. Leveraging the synergy between advanced artificial intelligence techniques-Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Genetic Algorithms (GA), and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO)-it is aimed to delve into the intricate effects of Nano-GO on concrete's mechanical properties. The empirical analysis, underpinned by a comparative evaluation of ANN-GA and ANN-PSO models, reveals that the ANN-GA model excels with a minimal forecast error of 2.73%, underscoring its efficacy in capturing the nuanced interactions between GO and cementitious materials. An optimal concentration is identified through meticulous experimentation across varied Nano-GO dosages that amplify concrete's compressive, flexural, and tensile strengths without compromising workability. This optimal dosage enhances the initial strength significantly, and positions GO as a cornerstone for next-generation premium-grade pavement concretes. The findings advocate for the further exploration and eventual integration of GO in road construction projects, aiming to bolster ecological sustainability and propel the adoption of a circular economy in infrastructure development.

PURPOSE: Our goal was to compare the lateralization of 68Ga-pentixafor PET/CT with adrenal vein sampling (AVS) in primary aldosteronism (PA) patients with unilateral lesions. METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled 61 patients with PA and all patients showed unilateral nodular lesions on CT and underwent 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT. The general clinical data, imaging and AVS results were collected. The diagnostic efficiency of 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT imaging in PA patients was calculated by visual and semi-quantitative analysis to compare the consistency with AVS, and the correlation between CXCR4 express and 68Ga-Pentixafor uptake was performed. RESULTS: The study included 42 unilateral PA (UPA) and 19 bilateral PA (BPA). The area under curve (AUC) of 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT to diagnosis UPA with 10 min maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) > 8.17 was 0.82 ([0.70-0.90], P < 0.001), and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.64 and 0.90, respectively. The maximal AUC of 68Ga-pentixafor PET/CT for the diagnosis UPA in patients with nodules with a diameter ≥1 cm was 0.87 ([0.73-0.95],P both <0.001,[10 min SUVmax=8.17 and 10 min mean standardized uptake value (SUVmean)=5.57]), and the sensitivity and specificity were 0.73 and 0.93, respectively. Unilateral adrenalectomy and significant CXCR4 expression were present in 32 UPA, including 27 aldosterone-producing adenoma and 5 idiopathic adrenal hyperplasia. Additionally, 68Ga-pentixafor uptake in adrenal lesions was significantly correlated with CXCR4 expression, and statistical differences in 68Ga-pentixafor uptake among IRS subgroups. CONCLUSIONS: 68Ga-Pentixafor PET/CT can be helpful for subtyping diagnosis of PA patients with unilateral adrenal nodular, showing significant potential in non-invasive PA classification.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the physiological distribution and tumour detection ability of [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 positron emission tomography (PET) dual-phase scans in patients with prostate cancer (PCa). METHODS: As a retrospective study, clinical and PET data of PCa patients who underwent dual-phase [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 PET of routine scan (45-50 min) and delayed scan (120 min) from November 2020 to June 2021 were collected, and physiological and pathological regions of interest were quantified to determine the time-dependent maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) of [18F]AlF-PSMA-11. Part of the above subjects who underwent [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET in the following 6 months were included in a head-to-head comparison. The difference with a p-value < 0.05 was defined as statistical significance. Diagnosis accuracy of primary and metastatic lesions was measured referring to the surgical findings, pathology, and follow-up imaging. RESULTS: [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 were of the comparable uptake in glands in head, but the latter was of a significant lower distribution in liver and spleen. For the 25 patients initially diagnosed with prostate cancer and 3 patients with biochemical recurrence after radical surgery, the SUVmax of the primary lesions, lacrimal glands, parotid glands and submandibular glands was higher at 120 min compared to that at 45-50 min, but not a significant difference. SUVmax of the liver, spleen and bladder decreased significantly at 120 min, but the bladder SUVmax remained higher than that of primary lesions. SUVmax of the kidneys and centrum was the same in dual-phase scans. For the 31 primary lesions detected in [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 PET, both the SUVmax of the two phases kept the positive correlation with PSA, Gleason score and initial risk stratification. For the 39 distant metastatic lesions, 94.87% accuracy of routine scan and 100% accuracy of delayed scan were acquired, and 7.14% patients (2/28) benefited from the dual-phase [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 scans that revealed novel information on metastatic lesions compared to the routine scan. CONCLUSION: [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 PET expanded the time window and further decreased metabolic background of [68Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET. The dual-phase scan of [18F]AlF-PSMA-11 PET can benefit prostate cancer diagnosis via providing more PSMA-specific information.

The regulation mechanism of bamboo height growth has always been one of the hotspots in developmental biology. In the preliminary work of this project, the function of LBD transcription factor regulating height growth was firstly studied. Here, a gene PheLBD12 regulating height growth was screened. PheLBD12-overexpressing transgenic rice had shorter internodes, less bioactive gibberellic acid (GA3), and were more sensitive to GA3 than wild-type (WT) plants, which implied that PheLBD12 involve in gibberellin (GA) pathway. The transcript levels of OsGA2ox3, that encoding GAs deactivated enzyme, was significantly enhanced in PheLBD12-overexpressing transgenic rice. The transcript levels of OsAP2-39, that directly regulating the expression of EUI1 to reduce GA levels, was also significantly enhanced in PheLBD12-overexpressing transgenic rice. Expectedly, yeast one-hybrid assays, Dual-luciferase reporter assay and EMSAs suggested that PheLBD12 directly interacted with the promoter of OsGA2ox3 and OsAP2-39. Together, our results reveal that PheLBD12 regulates plant height growth by modulating GA catabolism. Through the research of this topic, it enriches the research content of LBD transcription factors and it will theoretically enrich the research content of height growth regulation.

To quickly assess slope stability based on field displacement monitoring data, this paper constructs a hybrid optimization model that predicts surface displacement during tunnel excavation in base-overburden slopes. The model combines Wavelet Decomposition (WD) with a Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), and the GRU's hyperparameters are optimized using an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (IPSO). The specific steps are as follows: First, the Wavelet Decomposition (WD) technique is applied to decompose the raw displacement data, extracting features at different time-frequency scales. Next, the Dropout technique is incorporated into the GRU model to prevent overfitting. Additionally, nonlinear inertia weight ω improved cognitive factor c1, and social factor c2 are introduced. The PSO algorithm is improved by integrating crossover and mutation concepts from genetic algorithms. Finally, the IPSO is used to optimize the number of neural units hN, HN, LN and dropout rates D1 and D2 in the GRU network architecture. After constructing the WD-IPSO-GRU model, a comprehensive comparison is made with various swarm intelligence algorithms and state-of-the-art models. The experimental results demonstrate that the WD-IPSO-GRU model significantly improves the prediction accuracy of surface displacement in slopes during tunnel excavation. Compared to directly using raw data for prediction, the introduction of the WD preprocessing technique improved the prediction accuracy at measurement points 01 and 02 by 28% and 45.9%, respectively. Additionally, with the model optimized by IPSO, the prediction accuracy at measurement points 01 and 02 increased by 76% and 56.7%, respectively. The WD-IPSO-GRU model effectively addresses the challenges of extracting features from univariate displacement time-series data and determining the parameters of the GRU network. It improves the prediction accuracy of surface displacement in base-overburden type slopes and demonstrates excellent generalization ability and reliability. The research results validate the potential application of the model in geotechnical engineering and provide strong support for assessing slope stability during tunnel excavation.

A new type of hybrid polymer particles capable of carrying the cytostatic drug doxorubicin and labeled with a gallium compound was prepared. These microparticles consist of a core and a hydrogel shell, which serves as the structural matrix. The shell can be employed to immobilize gallium oxide hydroxide (GaOOH) nanoparticles and the drug, resulting in hybrid beads with sizes of approximately 3.81 ± 0.09 µm. The microparticles exhibit the ability to incorporate a remarkably large amount of doxorubicin, approximately 0.96 mg per 1 mg of the polymeric carrier. Additionally, GaOOH nanoparticles can be deposited within the hydrogel layer at an amount of 0.64 mg per 1 mg of the carrier. These nanoparticles, resembling rice grains with an average size of 593 nm by 155 nm, are located on the surface of the polymer carrier. In vitro studies on breast and colon cancer cell lines revealed a pronounced cytotoxic effect of the hybrid polymer particles loaded with doxorubicin, indicating their potential for cancer therapies. Furthermore, investigations on doping the hybrid particles with the Ga-68 radioisotope demonstrated their potential application in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging. The proposed structures present a promising theranostic platform, where particles could be employed in anticancer therapies while monitoring their accumulation in the body using PET.

With the increasing aging population, the demand for orthopedic implants is also growing. Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is considered a promising material for orthopedic implants due to its excellent biocompatibility. However, the lack of bioactivity and excessive immune response post-implantation often impair bone integration. Therefore, it is urgent to bio-functionalize PEEK-based implants to promote bone integration. This study employs a simple, economical, and feasible method to coat Ga-ion doped bioactive glass nanoparticles (Ga-MBGs) onto sulfonated PEEK surfaces, constructing a multifunctional PEEK-based orthopedic implant. The resulting bio-functionalized PEEK implants promote macrophage M2 phenotype polarization, thus fostering an anti-inflammatory immune microenvironment. Moreover, the direct osteogenic effect of Ga ions and the immuno-osteogenic effect through promoting macrophage M2 polarization enhance osteogenic differentiation potential in vitro and bone integration in vivo. A sequence of in vivo and in vitro experiments substantiates the essential and intricate function of this innovative orthopedic implants. in regulating normal bone immunity and metabolism. Overall, the application of Ga-MBGs provides a simple, economical, and effective method for developing multifunctional orthopedic implants. This surface bio-functionalized PEEK implant, capable of modulating immunity and bone metabolism, holds significant clinical application potential as an orthopedic implant.

Introduction: prostate cancer recurrence after definitive therapy for organ-confined disease often manifests as rising prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels without clinically overt disease. 68Gallium prostate-specific membrane antigen, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (68GaPSMA PET/CT) imaging plays a major role in the management of recurrent prostate cancer. The purpose of this study was to assess the positivity rate of 68Ga PSMA PET/CT scans in cases of prostate cancer recurrence, and to compare the results with existing international literature. Methods: a retrospective analysis of 177 68Ga PSMA PET/CT scans of patients with biochemically proven disease recurrence was performed. The possible association of a positive PSMA PET/CT with the PSA level and Gleason score were analyzed. Results: a total of 177 68Ga PSMA PET/CT scans were performed in 163 patients (median age 66 years). Of these, 117 (66%) scans detected the site of disease recurrence. Among patients with PSA 0.2-0.99 ng/ml, 23/49 (47%, p<0.0001) were positive, and 20/35 (57%, p<0.0005) were positive in the group of patients with PSA 1.00-1.99. When PSA values were further categorized into PSA <2 ng/ml and PSA ≥2 ng/ml, detection rates were 49% and 86% respectively (p <0.0001). The scans were positive in 65% of patients with Gleason score of <7, 62% with Gleason score of =7 and 68% with Gleason score >7 (p=0.745). Conclusion: there was an increase in the detection rate with an increase in the PSA. Gleason score was not a predictor of a positive 68Ga PSMA PET/CT scan. 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT should be prioritized in patients with biochemical recurrence with PSA levels >0.2 ng/ml.

Introduction: Insulinomas are rare, usually sporadic, and typically benign pancreatic neuroendocrine tumours. Pre-operative localization is challenging and evidence on comparative analysis of anatomic and scintigraphic modalities for pre-operative tumour localization is limited, even in contemporary series. Methods: The current study was designed to study the clinical features and management challenges of insulinomas managed at a tertiary care centre. Clinical features, diagnosis, imaging techniques, surgical procedures, and outcomes details were collated. Pre-operative imaging techniques (CT/MRI, nuclear scintigraphy) were compared with intraoperative and histopathological findings to assess their accuracy of localization. Results: Thirty-seven patients (15 females [42%]; median age 36 years [IQR 28-49]) were included in the study. In four patients (10.8%), the tumour occurred in the setting of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN 1) while the remaining were sporadic. The sensitivity of pre-operative localization was 61.5% (multiphasic CT), 66.6% (multiphasic MRI), 100% (68Ga Exendin-4 PET-CT), and 91.6% (EUS). Three patients with normal multiphasic CT had localization on 68Ga Exendin-4 PET-CT. The positive predictive value (PPV) of both Exendin-PET-CT and EUS was similar at 91.6% and 91.6%, respectively. All patients (except one with nesidioblastosis), who underwent enucleation or partial pancreatic resection, were cured. Conclusion: 68Ga Exendin-4 PET-CT based is a non-invasive imaging modality that has high sensitivity and PPV and can be used as a first-line imaging modality. The overall prognosis of these tumours is good with high cure rates attained following surgical resection.

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are formed through the reaction/modification of proteins by saccharides (e.g., glucose and fructose) and their intermediate/non-enzymatic products [e.g., methylglyoxal and glyceraldehyde (GA)]. In 2017, Dr. Takanobu Takata et al. developed the novel slot blot method to quantify intracellular GA-derived AGEs (GA-AGEs). Although the original method required nitrocellulose membranes, we hypothesized that the modified proteins contained in the AGEs may be effectively probed on polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) membranes. Because commercial lysis buffers are unsuitable for this purpose, Dr. Takata developed the slot blot method using an in-house-prepared lysis buffer containing 2-amino-2-hydromethyl-1,3-propanediol (Tris), urea, thiourea, and 3-[(3-cholamidopropyl)-dimethylammonio]-1-propanesulfonate (CHAPS) that effectively probes AGEs onto PVDF membranes. The slot blot method also entails the calculation of Tris, urea, thiourea, and CHAPS concentrations, as well as protein and mass to be probed onto the PVDF membranes. GA-AGE-modified bovine serum albumin (BSA, GA-AGEs-BSA) is used to draw a standard curve and perform neutralization against a non-specific combination of anti-GA-AGEs antibodies, thereby enabling the quantification of GA-AGEs in cell lysates. This paper presents the detailed protocol for slot blot analysis of intracellular GA-AGE levels in C2C12 cells. Key features • This protocol leverages the idea that advanced glycation end products are modified proteins. • The lysis buffer containing Tris, urea, thiourea, and CHAPS enables probing proteins onto PVDF membranes. • Intracellular GA-AGE levels may be quantified for some cell types using polyclonal anti-GA-AGE antibodies and standard GA-AGE-modified BSA. • The lysis buffer may be simultaneously prepared with the cell lysate. • There is no limit to the type of cultured cells used in the preparation of cell lysate.

Background: Multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) is a commonly used method to diagnose pelvic lymph node metastasis (PLNM) in prostate cancer (PCa) patients, but there are few comparative studies on mpMRI and 68Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in locally advanced PCa (LAPC) patients. Therefore, we designed a retrospective study to compare the diagnostic value of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI for PLNM of LAPC. Methods: A retrospective study was performed on 50 patients with LAPC who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) in Tongji Hospital from 2021 to 2023. All patients underwent PET/CT and mpMRI examination, and were diagnosed as LAPC before surgery, followed by robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy or laparoscopic RP and extended pelvic lymph node dissection (ePLND). Routine postoperative pathological examination was performed. According to the results, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI for the diagnosis of PLNM of LAPC were compared. Results: Among the 50 patients, the mean age was 65.5±10.3 years, the preoperative total serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was 30.7±12.3 ng/mL, and the Gleason score was 7 [7, 8]. The difference in diagnostic efficacy between 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI in the preoperative diagnosis of PLNM of PCa was determined by postoperative pathological results. Based on the number of patients who developed PLNM, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT were as follows: 93.75%, 100.00%, 100.00%, 97.14%, and 68.75%, 97.06%, 91.67%, 86.84% for mpMRI, respectively. Based on the number of pelvic metastatic lymph nodes, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT were 95.24%, 100.00%, 100.00%, 99.48%, and 65.08%, 99.13%, 89.13%, 96.30% for mpMRI, respectively. It turned out that PET/CT was more sensitive than mpMRI in detecting PLNM of PCa, and the difference was statistically significant. Conclusions: 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT is more sensitive than mpMRI in the detection of PLNM in patients with LAPC. It is a promising method in the diagnosis and preoperative assessment of PLNM in LAPC.

This entails precise capital allocation, enhanced financial services, streamlined management, and robust risk mitigation strategies. Consequently, conducting thorough credit risk assessments for MSMEs becomes a crucial endeavor. However, obtaining substantial loans for them proves challenging due to their elusive credit ratings and potential defaults. To address this issue, this study leverages machine learning and intelligent optimization algorithms to construct a classification model for default and credit ratings of MSMEs, utilizing their daily invoice data. Specifically, twelve indicators pertaining to default and credit ratings are extracted. Subsequently, Principal Component Analysis is employed to reduce dimensionality and synthesize all pertinent information. Following this, the Genetic Algorithm-based Back Propagation Neural Network (GA-BPNN) is utilized to delineate the relationship between indicators and default, as well as credit rating, respectively. The results indicate a prediction accuracy of 0.92 for default risk and 0.86 for credit rating. This underscores the efficacy of GA-BPNN in effectively classifying the underlying default risk and credit ratings of MSMEs, offering a promising approach for decision-making.

This study investigated the application of artificial intelligence algorithms (AIA) in the coagulation treatment of paint wastewater anchored by novel Phaseolus vulgaris seed extract (PVSE). Untreated wastewater discharge harms the ecosystem, and therefore harmful industrial effluent, such as paint wastewater, must be brought to safe discharge levels before being released into the environment. In addition to AIA, comprehensive characterization tests, coagulation kinetics, and process optimization were also executed. Characterization results revealed that total solid in the PWW was above allowable standard, justifying the need for effective particle decontamination. The XRD and FTIR characterization indicated that PVSE structure is amorphous with abundant amine groups. Results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) obtained from process modeling indicated that the coagulation-flocculation process was a nonlinear quadratic system (F-value = 45.51) which was mostly influenced by PVSE coagulant dosage (F-value = 222.48; standardized effect = 14.85). Artificial intelligence indicated that neural network training effectively captured the nonlinear nature of the system in ANN (RMSE = 0.00040194; R = 0.98497), and ANFIS (RMSE = 0.003961) algorithms. Regression coefficient obtained from process modeling highlighted the suitability of RSM (0.9662), ANN (0.9739), and ANFIS (0.9718) in forecasting the coagulation-flocculation process, while comparative statistical appraisal authenticated the superiority of ANN model over RSM and ANFIS models. The coagulation kinetics experiment, which used a coagulation kinetic model, revealed a constant flocculation constant (Kf-value) for all jar test batches and a strong association between the Menkonu coagulation-flocculation constant (Km) and Kf values. Best removal efficiency of 97.01 % was obtained using ANN coupled genetic algorithm optimization (ANN-GA) at PVSE dosage of 4 g/L, coagulation time of 29 min and temperature of 25.1oC.

PURPOSE: Wide awake local anesthesia no tourniquet (WALANT) is gaining popularity with flexor tendon repair. We hypothesized that results of zone II flexor tendon repair performed under WALANT would be superior to those performed under general anesthesia (GA). METHODS: A randomized controlled trial was conducted to compare results of repair of zone II flexor tendon lacerations under WALANT versus GA. Following sample size estimation, 86 digits were included and randomized into two groups. All surgeries were performed by a single surgeon using a six-stranded core stitch and running epitenon suture. All patients followed the same early active rehabilitation protocol. The primary outcome was recovery calculated using the Strickland and Glogovac criteria. Secondary outcomes included rupture rate, complication rate, and Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score. All outcomes were reported at the 6-month visit for all patients. RESULTS: Of the 86 digits, three were lost to follow-up. Analysis was performed on 43 digits in the WALANT group and 40 in the GA group. Demographic characteristics including age and sex were comparable in both groups. Rupture of the repair occurred in two digits in each of the WALANT and GA groups. An excellent or good outcome was achieved in 49% and 56% of the digits in the WALANT and GA groups, respectively. This difference was not statistically significant. DASH scores averaged 12.9 and 8.4 for the WALANT and GA groups, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: WALANT may not be superior to GA in regards function, rates of rupture, and patient-reported outcomes in repair of zone II flexor tendon lacerations. Sensitive, flexible, and low false alarm rate X-ray detector is crucial for medical diagnosis, industrial inspection, and scientific research. However, most semiconductors for X-ray detectors are susceptible to interference from ambient light, and their high thickness hinders their application in wearable electronics. Herein, a flexible visible-blind and ultraviolet-blind X-ray detector based on Indium-doped Gallium oxide (Ga2O3:In) single microwire is prepared. Joint experiment-theory characterizations reveal that the Ga2O3:In microwire possess a high crystal quality, large band gap, and satisfactory stability, and reliability. On this basis, an extraordinary sensitivity of 5.9 × 105 µC Gyair -1 cm-2 and a low detection limit of 67.4 nGyair s-1 are achieved based on the prepared Ag/Ga2O3:In/Ag device, which has outstanding operation stability and excellent high temperature stability. Taking advantage of the flexible properties of the single microwire, a portable X-ray detection system is demonstrated that shows the potential to adapt to flexible and lightweight formats. The proposed X-ray detection system enables real-time monitor for X-rays, which can be displayed on the user interface. More importantly, it has excellent resistance to natural light interference, showing a low false alarm rate. This work provides a feasible method for exploring high-performance flexible integrated micro/nano X-ray detection devices.

Oleaginous yeast can produce lipids while degrading phenol in wastewater treatment. In this study, a Plackett-Burman Design (PBD) was adopted to identify key factors of phenol degradation and lipid production using R toruloides 9564T. While temperature, inoculum size, and agitation were significant for both the processes (p < 0.05), pH and incubation were significant for lipid production, and phenol removal, respectively. Results from four factors (pH, temperature, inoculum size, and incubation period) central composite design (CCD) experiment were used to formulate quadratic and genetic algorithm-optimized ANN models. The reduced quadratic model for phenol degradation (R2: 0.993) and lipid production (R2: 0.958) were marginally inferior to ANN models (R2: 0.999, 0.982, respectively) on training sets. Multi-objective optimization with equal importance suggests phenol degradation between 106.4 and 108.76%, and lipid production of 0.864-0.903 g/L, by polynomial and ANN models. Complete phenol degradation (100%) and 3.35-fold increment (0.918 g/L) in lipid production were obtained at pH 6.07, inoculum size 14.68% v/v, at 29.5 °C in 92.17 h experimentally.

Raman spectroscopy, a versatile and nondestructive technique, was employed to develop a methodology for gallium oxide (Ga2O3) phase detection and identification. This methodology combines experimental results with a comprehensive literature survey. The established Raman approach offers a powerful tool for nondestructively assessing phase purity and detecting secondary phases in Ga2O3 thin films. X-ray diffraction was used for comparison, highlighting the complementary information that these techniques may provide for Ga2O3 characterization. Few case studies are included to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed spectroscopic approach, namely the impact of deposition conditions such as metal-organic vapor-phase epitaxy and pulsed electron deposition (PED), and extrinsic elements provided during growth (Sn in the case of PED) on Ga2O3 polymorphism. In conclusion, it is shown that Raman spectroscopy offers a quick, reliable, and nondestructive high-resolution approach for Ga2O3 thin film characterization, especially concerning phase detection and crystalline quality.

Aromatic components of C8-C15 are playing indispensable roles in multi-functional properties of jet fuel. Here, we reported the controllable alkylation of benzene with mixed olefins of ethylene and propylene toward C8-C15 aromatic hydrocarbons for jet fuels over the bifunctional Ga/ZSM-5 catalyst. The resultant 2Ga/ZSM-5 exhibited a superior selectivity of 86.4% (yield of 55.5%) to C8-C15 range aromatics, at benzene conversion of 40.3%, ethylene and propylene conversion of 99.5% and 99.2%, respectively. The incorporation of Ga species could effectively weaken the strong acid sites of ZSM-5 and endow 2Ga/ZSM-5 catalyst with appropriate acidity, therefore facilitating the benzene alkylation process and suppressing the undesired hydrogen transfer or aromatization side reactions as well, thus improving the yield of desired C8-C15aromatics for jet fuels. This work provided insight into the development of promising bifunctional catalyst for the oriented transformation of biomass-derived chemicals to aviation fuels.
