Introduction: Children with cerebral palsy (CP) exhibit a variety of sensory impairments that can interfere with motor performance, but how these impairments persist into adulthood needs further investigation. The objective of this study was to describe the sensory impairments in adults having CP and how they relate to motor impairments. Methods: Nineteen adults having CP performed a set of robotic and clinical assessments. These assessments were targeting different sensory functions and motor functions (bilateral and unilateral tasks). Frequency of each type of impairments was determined by comparing individual results to normative data. Association between the sensory and motor impairments was assessed with Spearman correlation coefficient. Results: Impairment in stereognosis was the most frequent, affecting 57.9% of participants. Although less frequently impaired (26.3%), tactile discrimination was associated with all the motor tasks (unilateral and bilateral, either robotic or clinical). Performance in robotic motor assessments was more frequently associated with sensory impairments than with clinical assessments. Finally, sensory impairments were not more closely associated with bilateral tasks than with unilateral tasks. Discussion: Somatosensory and visuo-perceptual impairments are frequent among adults with CP, with 84.2% showing impairments in at least one sensory function. These sensory impairments show a moderate association with motor impairments.

In India, adult neurosurgeons are required to care for children regularly because the concept of dedicated pediatric specialty care is not yet entirely established in the subcontinent. Likewise, pediatric neurosurgeons do not exclusively offer their services to the young, but they also provide care to adult patients with neurosurgical disorders. This creates a medical system where the transition between specialties is not often a formal and recognized aspect of neurosurgical care because most neurosurgeons provide care for patients of all ages. Additionally, there are very few teams geared toward caring for conditions in children that merit lifelong medical support, with spina bifida (SB) being one of them. Since there are no focused or structured pediatric programs on a large scale, developing a multidisciplinary clinic for adults becomes challenging. A pragmatic approach using technology-based education, supported by an organized system or a coordinator, may be a new strategy. A new system utilizing telemedicine and smartphones for established patients maybe an alternative option for SB children in India. During virtual video conferences, an established patient may benefit from multispecialty care and education toward a smooth transition that avoids significant issues with time, transportation, or financial constraints. Achieving a seamless transition among allied specialists from the pediatric to adult systems is a utopia. The current system in the subcontinent may be improved, with an opportunity to develop smooth transition care between coordinated specialists (who simultaneously treat children and adults). Learning from various global SB management styles, the Indian transition situation may offer another model in the near future.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been increasingly explored in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries to address the issues of severe polysulfide shuttle effects and sluggish redox kinetics. However, the structure-activity relationship between single-atom coordination structures and the performance of Li-S batteries remain unclear. In this study, a P, S co-coordination asymmetric configuration of single atoms is designed to enhance the catalytic activity of Co central atoms and promote d-p orbital hybridization between Co and S atoms, thereby limiting polysulfides and accelerating the bidirectional redox process of sulfur. The well-designed SACs enable Li-S batteries to demonstrate an ultralow capacity fading rate of 0.027% per cycle after 2000 cycles at a high rate of 5 C. Furthermore, they display excellent rate performance with a capacity of 619 mAh g-1 at an ultrahigh rate of 10 C due to the efficient catalysis of CoSA-N3PS. Importantly, the assembled pouch cell still retains a high discharge capacity of 660 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.2 C and provides a high areal capacity of 4.4 mAh cm-2 even with a high sulfur loading of 6 mg cm-2. This work demonstrates that regulating the coordination environment of SACs is of great significance for achieving state-of-the-art Li-S batteries.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-related Cu materials are promising candidates for promoting electrochemical CO2 reduction to produce valuable chemical feedstocks. However, many MOF materials inevitable undergo reconstruction under reduction conditions; therefore, exploiting the restructuring of MOF materials is of importance for the rational design of high-performance catalyst targeting multi-carbon products (C2). Herein, a facile solvent process is choosed to fabricate HKUST-1 with an anionic framework (a-HKUST-1) and utilize it as a pre-catalyst for alkaline CO2RR. The a-HKUST-1 catalyst can be electrochemically reduced into Cu with significant structural reconstruction under operating reaction conditions. The anionic HKUST-1 derived Cu catalyst (aHD-Cu) delivers a FEC2H4 of 56% and FEC2 of ≈80% at -150 mA cm-2 in alkaline electrolyte. The resulting aHD-Cu catalyst has a high electrochemically active surface area and low coordinated sites. In situ Raman spectroscopy indicates that the aHD-Cu surface displays higher coverage of *CO intermediates, which favors the production of hydrocarbons.

Transition metal-nitrogen-carbon (M-N-C) catalysts have emerged as promising candidates for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) due to their uniform active sites and high atomic utilization rate. However, poor efficiency at low overpotentials and unclear reaction mechanisms limit the application of M-N-C catalysts. In this study, Fe-N-C catalysts are developed by incorporating S atoms onto ordered hierarchical porous carbon substrates with a molecular iron thiophenoporphyrin. The well-prepared FeSNC catalyst exhibits superior CO2RR activity and stability, attributes to an optimized electronic environment, and enhances the adsorption of reaction intermediates. It displays the highest CO selectivity of 94.0% at -0.58 V (versus the reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)) and achieves the highest partial current density of 13.64 mA cm-2 at -0.88 V. Furthermore, when employed as the cathode in a Zn-CO2 battery, FeSNC achieves a high-power density of 1.19 mW cm-2 and stable charge-discharge cycles. Density functional theory calculations demonstrate that the incorporation of S atoms into the hierarchical porous carbon substrate led to the iron center becoming more electron-rich, consequently improving the adsorption of the crucial reaction intermediate *COOH. This study underscores the significance of hierarchical porous structures and heteroatom doping for advancing electrocatalytic CO2RR and energy storage technologies.

Purposes: First, to examine the relationship between primary school children's academic achievement and healthy lifestyle habits. Second, to evaluate the effectiveness of two different 5-month physical education interventions (traditional physical education vs. coordinative physical education) on children's academic achievement. Third, to examine whether variations of anthropometric variables, fitness level, gross motor coordination, physical activity level, sedentary time, attentional performance, fruit and vegetable consumption, meal frequency and type of physical education intervention could predict children's academic achievement variations. Methods: Before and after the intervention, Italian language and mathematics skills, anthropometric variables (weight, height, body fat percentage, BMI), physical fitness (aerobic fitness, muscular strength, flexibility), gross motor coordination, attentional performance (processing speed, concentration performance, performance accuracy, attentional and inhibitory control), physical activity level, sedentary time and eating habits (meal frequency, fruit and vegetable consumption) were assessed in 161 Italian primary school children, randomly assigned to a traditional physical education group or to a coordinative physical education group. Results: Physical activity level, gross motor coordination and aerobic fitness moderately predicted mathematics skill (R2 = 17%). Moreover, physical activity level, aerobic fitness and muscular strength moderately predicted Italian language skill (R2 = 21%). Intervention type differently affected academic achievement. Specifically, Italian language and mathematics skills significantly improved only after traditional intervention. Fruit consumption increase was positively associated with the improvement in academic achievement. Coordinative physical education intervention was associated with a lower probability of improvement in Italian language and mathematical skills. Conclusion: Motor ability and lifestyle habits may have a positive influence on academic achievement in children. Unexpectedly, traditional physical education intervention resulted to be more effective on both Italian language and mathematical skills.

Spherical nucleic acids (SNAs) are nanostructures with the DNA arranged radially on the surface, thus allowing specific binding with cancer cells expressing high levels of scavenger receptor-A to enhance cellular uptake. However, conventional carriers for SNAs are cytotoxic, not degradable and difficult to deliver multiple payloads. In this study, we developed charge-reversible coordination-crosslinked SNAs to deliver dual anti-cancer genes and ferroptosis payload for anti-cancer purposes. To this end, we modified poly(lactic acid) (PLA) with functionalized side chains to allow its binding with antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) and siRNA, annealed two single-stranded RNAs to obtain double-stranded RNA, and introduced a polyethylene glycol (PEG) shell to enhance the circulation time. Additionally, the ferroptosis payload imidazole was coordinated with iron ions as a core-crosslinked group to enhance the stability of SNAs and efficiency to kill cancer cells. We demonstrated that this novel nanocomplex efficiently internalized and killed CT-26 cells in vitro. In vivo data confirmed that the dual gene delivery system successfully targeted CT-26 tumors in tumor-bearing BALB/c mice, and exhibited strong tumor suppression ability, without inducing adverse toxic effects. Taken together, our dual gene therapy system offered an enhanced anti-tumor solution by simultaneously delivering dual anti-cancer genes and ferroptosis payload in tumor microenvironment.

A novel type of colorimetric/fluorescent nanopaper indicator has been developed from the melt-extruded poly (vinyl alcohol-co-ethylene) nanofibers with surface anchored metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) by an interfacial coordination strategy. Specifically, the fluorescein isothiocyanate molecules could be anchored to the nanofiber surface by nickel ions and co-assembled into a hydrophilic nanocoating via a dynamic water/alcohol solvent evaporation method. Interestingly, this hydrophilic surface enables fast adsorption of moistures and interaction with biological amine vapors, resulting a saffron cake-layer of MOF nanocrystals with ultra-sensitive colorimetric/fluorescent responses based on an alkaline pH/ammonia induced competitive coordination mechanism. Finally, these porous nanofibrous matrix and active nanocoating make the nano-paper an ultra-sensitive optical platform for in-situ monitoring of the shrimp freshness from mins to weeks. Therefore, this composite film shows great potential into advanced paper-based indicators for food quality control and safety in processing industry.

Narrow-bandgap Sn-Pb alloying perovskites showcased great potential in constructing multiple-junction perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with efficiencies approaching or exceeding the Shockley-Queisser limit. However, the uncontrollable surface metal abundance (Sn2+ and Pb2+ ions) hinders their efficiency and versatility in different device structures. Additionally, the undesired Pb distribution mainly at the buried interface accelerates the Pb leakage when devices are damaged. In this work, a novel strategy is presented to modulate crystallization kinetics and surface metal abundance of Sn-Pb perovskites using a cobweb-like quadrangular macrocyclic porphyrin material, which features a molecular size compatible with the perovskite lattice and robustly coordinates with Pb2+ ions, thus immobilizing them and increasing surface Pb abundance by 61%. This modulation reduces toxic Pb leakage rates by 24-fold, with only ∼23 ppb Pb in water after severely damaged PSCs are immersed in water for 150 h.This strategy can also enhance chemical homogeneity, reduce trap density, release tensile strain and optimize carrier dynamics of Sn-Pb perovskites and relevant devices. Encouragingly, the power conversion efficiency (PCEs) of 23.28% for single-junction, full-stack devices and 21.34% for hole transport layer-free Sn-Pb PSCs are achieved.Notably, the related monolithic all-perovskite tandem solar cell also achieves a PCE of 27.03% with outstanding photostability.

The realm of titanium coordination polymer research is still in its nascent stages and presents a formidable challenge in the field of coordination chemistry. In recent decades, the focus has predominantly been on manipulating titanium reactions in solution, resulting in the synthesis of ≈60 targeted compounds. Despite the limited number of documented instances, these materials showcase a diverse array of structures, encompassing 1D chains, 2D layers, and 3D frameworks. This suggests potential for fine-tuning coordination modes and structural features in future investigations. Moreover, titanium coordination polymers not only exhibit photo-active and photo-responsive properties but also hold promise for various other significant applications. This article offers an exhaustive review tracing the evolution of titanium coordination polymer development while providing an update on recent advancements. The review encompasses a synopsis of reported synthetic strategies, methodologies, structural diversity, and associated applications. Additionally, it delves into critical issues that necessitate attention for future progressions and proposes potential avenues to effectively propel this research field forward at an accelerated pace.

Demyelinating diseases are commonly associated with epileptic seizures and have limited management options. Hence, the need to investigate potential options for management of such seizures. Antiaris Africana extract (AE) was investigated for effect in chronic demyelinating seizures. Cuprizone treatment induced short but frequent spike discharges in mice. Antiaris Africana extract (300 mg/kg) treatment abolished epileptiform discharges. Cuprizone administration caused severe demyelination in the corpus callosum. After the demyelination phase, myelin content decreased to 22.86 ± 1.92 % in the cuprizone-only group. However, there was an increase to 52.14 ± 3.91 % in cuprizone-only group and 62.00 ± 2.78 % in the Antiaris africana extract group respectively, after a 4-week cuprizone cessation period. Treatment with AE and LEV visibly altered myelin growth. Antiaris africana extract treatment produced significant (P < 0.001, F (3, 16) = 698.4) increase in locomotor activity similar to LEV (P < 0.001,F (2, 12) = 678.7) and DZP (P < 0.001, F (2, 12) = 620.4) and improved beam traversal time (18.71 ± 2.244 s; 95 % CI: 13.22-24.20) while causing significantly (P < 0.05, F (2, 15) = 6.667) fewer stepping errors. Antiaris africana extract inhibits seizures induced by chronic demyelination and has beneficial effects on motor coordination.

Land use change stands as the primary factor influencing habitat quality (HQ). Clarifying the spatiotemporal change and the obstacle factors of the coupling relationship between HQ and urbanization level (UL) can provide imperative references for achieving sustainability in the Yellow River Basin (YRB). This study is based on the InVEST model, spatial autocorrelation, and obstacle factor analysis to measure the spatiotemporal dynamics and impediments of the coupling relationship between HQ and UL from 2000 to 2020 in the YRB. The findings were as follows: (1) From 2000 to 2020, the HQ showed a tendency of rise first and then fall, with the pattern of "High in the middle and west, low in the east"; (2) from 2000 to 2020, the UL had an upward trend, with the pattern of "Low in the west, high in the middle and east"; (3) the coupling and coordination level of HQ and UL in the YRB changed from extreme incoordination to verge of coordination, and it had a distribution pattern of "High in the east, low in the west", with the high-value area expanding to the east and the low-value area shrinking to the west. (4) Location condition, climate, proportion of construction land, vegetation index, and proportion of non-agricultural employment are the main obstacle factors that determined the coupling and coordination of the HQ and UL.

Representing numeric values such as scalars holds great importance for accurately depicting clinical data. While the result value itself will always be represented using an integer, decimal, or other scalar format, it needs to be linked to its corresponding data element. In SNOMED CT, as in most other terminology systems, this is done through an attribute relationship. While some scalar values are already included in this way, they only represent a small fraction of possibilities. Our intention is to expand the scope of scalar representation by validating new attributes using a previously established method. The result is a list of five attributes validated for local representation of scalar values, improving semantic representation and interoperability.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic triggered numerous changes in health services organisation, whose effects on clinical coordination are unknown. The aim is to analyse changes in the experience and perception of cross-level clinical coordination and related factors of primary (PC) and secondary care (SC) doctors in the Catalan health system between 2017 and 2022. METHODS: Comparison of two cross-sectional studies based on online surveys by means of the self-administration of the COORDENA-CAT (2017) and COORDENA-TICs (2022) questionnaires to PC and SC doctors. Final sample n = 3308 in 2017 and n = 2277 in 2022. OUTCOME VARIABLES: experience of cross-level information and clinical management coordination and perception of cross-level clinical coordination in the healthcare area and related factors. Stratification variables: level of care and year. Adjusting variables: sex, years of experience, type of specialty, type of hospital, type of management of PC/SC. Descriptive bivariate and multivariate analysis using Poisson regressions models to detect changes between years in total and by levels of care. RESULTS: Compared with 2017, while cross-level clinical information coordination remained relatively high, with a slight improvement, doctors of both care levels reported a worse experience of cross-level clinical management coordination, particularly of care consistency (repetition of test) and accessibility to PC and, of general perception, which was worse in SC doctors. There was also a worsening in organisational (institutional support, set objectives, time available for coordination), attitudinal (job satisfaction) and interactional factors (knowledge between doctors). The use of ICT-based coordination mechanisms such as shared electronic medical records and electronic consultations between PC and SC increased, while the participation in virtual joint clinical conferences was limited. CONCLUSIONS: Results show a slight improvement in clinical information but also less expected setbacks in some dimensions of clinical management coordination and in the perception of clinical coordination, suggesting that the increased use of some ICT-based coordination mechanisms did not counteract the effect of the worsened organisational, interactional, and attitudinal factors during the pandemic. Strategies are needed to facilitate direct communication, to improve conditions for the effective use of mechanisms and policies to protect healthcare professionals and services in order to better cope with new crises.

Complex behavioral sequences such as courtship displays are often multimodal, and coordination between modalities is critically important. In learned and variable behavioral sequences such as songs, individual variability may also extend to multimodal coordination and the associations between modalities. However, individual variability in complex multimodal sequences and in coordination between distinct behaviors remains underexplored. Here, we report that budgerigars, which continuously learn and modify their complex warble songs, exhibit associations between body movements and song notes during courtship. Some associations are unique to individuals, and others are universal across individuals. Additionally, some individuals exhibit more unique associations than others. We also find that birds warbling in the absence of body movements emit all notes with broadly similar odds ratios. Our data suggests a hierarchy of associations, some individual-specific and others common to all individuals, between body movements and songs. We propose that these associations may be learnt and modified through social interactions, resulting in individual variability.

The integration of mechanically interlocked molecules (MIMs) into polymeric materials has led to the development of mechanically interlocked polymers (MIPs). One class of MIPs that have gained attention are slide-ring gels (SRGs), which are generally accessed by crosslinking rings on a main-chain polyrotaxane. The mobility of the interlocked crosslinking moieties along the polymer backbone imparts enhanced properties onto these networks. An alternative synthetic approach to SRGs is to use a doubly threaded ring as the crosslinking moiety, yielding doubly threaded slide-ring gel networks (dt-SRGs). In this study, a photo-curable ligand-containing thread was used to assemble a series of metal-templated pseudo[3]rotaxane crosslinkers that allow access to MIPs that contain doubly threaded interlocked rings. The physicochemical and mechanical properties of these dt-SRGs with varying size of the ring crosslinking moieties were investigated and compared to an entangled gel (EG) prepared by polymerizing the metal complex of the photo-curable ligand-containing thread, and a corresponding covalent gel (CG). Relative to the EG and CG, the dt-SRGs exhibit enhanced swelling behavior, viscoelastic properties, and stress relaxation characteristics. In addition, the macroscopic properties of dt-SRGs could be altered by "locking" ring mobility in the structure through remetalation, highlighting the impact of the mobility of the crosslinks.

Movement disorders, such as stroke and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, result in loss of upper limb function and, hence, severe impairments of bimanual coordination. Although motor imagery is increasingly used to enhance neurorehabilitation, cognitive and neurophysiological parameters that inform effective strategies remain elusive. The aim of the present study is to elucidate the neural dynamics that underlie learning during real and imagined movement using both unimanual and bimanual coordination patterns. The post movement beta rebound (PMBR) has been implicated as a biomarker of motor control and therefore was the focus of this study. Healthy adults (n = 21) learned a visuomotor tracking task in a single session using either one or both hands while brainwaves were captured using electroencephalography. Postmovement beta rebound was evident in the sensorimotor cortex for both unimanual and bimanual conditions. Task-related power of the beta band demonstrated that actual unimanual movement requires greater contralateral activity compared with both actual bimanual movement and imagined movement of either condition. Notably, the PMBR was evident even in imagined movement, although to a lesser extent than real movement. Neurophysiological results support a functional role for beta band in movement. Results of these data may inform neurorehabilitation strategies for patients recovering from movement disorders of the upper limbs.

BACKGROUND: Children with unilateral cerebral palsy (CP) exhibit motor impairments predominantly on one side of the body, while also having ipsilesional and bilateral impairments. These impairments are known to persist through adulthood, but their extent have not been described in adults with CP. This study's aim is to characterize bilateral and unilateral upper limbs impairments in adults with CP. METHODS: Nineteen adults with CP (34.3 years old ± 11.5) performed three robotic assessments in the Kinarm Exoskeleton Lab, including two bilateral tasks (Object Hit [asymmetric independent goals task] and Ball on Bar [symmetric common goal task]) and one unilateral task (Visually Guided Reaching, performed with the more affected arm [MA] and less affected arm [LA]). Individual results were compared to sex, age and handedness matched normative data, describing the proportion of participants exhibiting impairments in each task-specific variable (e.g., Hand speed), each performance category (e.g., Feedforward control) and in global task performance. Associations were assessed using Spearman correlation coefficients between: 1: the results of the MA and LA of each limb in the unilateral task; and 2: the results of each limb in the unilateral vs. the bilateral tasks. RESULTS: The majority of participants exhibited impairments in bilateral tasks (84%). The bilateral performance categories (i.e., Bimanual) identifying bilateral coordination impairments were impaired in the majority of participants (Object Hit: 57.8%; Ball on Bar: 31.6%). Most of the participants were impaired when performing a unilateral task with their MA arm (63%) and a smaller proportion with their LA arm (31%). The Feedforward control was the unilateral performance category showing the highest proportion of impaired participants while displaying the strongest relationship between the MA and LA arms impairments (rs = 0.93). Feedback control was the unilateral performance category most often associated with impairments in bilateral tasks (6 out of 8 performance categories). CONCLUSIONS: Adults with CP experienced more impairment in bilateral tasks while still having substantial impairments in unilateral tasks. They frequently display Feedforward control impairments combined with a higher reliance on Feedback control during both bilateral and unilateral tasks, leading to poorer motor performance.

RESUMEN

INTRODUCTION: Continuity and coordination-of-care for childhood cancer survivors with multiple chronic conditions are understudied but critical for appropriate follow-up care. METHODS: From April through June 2022, 800 Childhood Cancer Survivor Study participants with two or more chronic conditions (one or more severe/life-threatening/disabling) were emailed the "Patient Perceived Continuity-of-Care from Multiple Clinicians" survey. The survey asked about survivors' main (takes care of most health care) and coordinating (ensures follow-up) provider, produced three care-coordination summary scores (main provider, across multiple providers, patient-provider partnership), and included six discontinuity indicators (e.g., having to organize own care). Discontinuity (yes/no) was defined as poor care on one or more discontinuity item. Chi-square tests assessed associations between discontinuity and sociodemographics. Modified Poisson regression models estimated prevalence ratios (PRs) for discontinuity risk associated with the specialty and number of years seeing the main and coordinating provider, and PRs associated with better scores on the three care-coordination summary measures. Inverse probability weights adjusted for survey non-participation. RESULTS: A total of 377 (47%) survivors responded (mean age 48 years, 68% female, 89% non-Hispanic White, 78% privately insured, 74% ≥college graduate); 147/373 (39%) reported discontinuity. Younger survivors were more likely to report discontinuity (chi-square p = .02). Seeing the main provider ≤3 years was associated with more prevalent discontinuity (PR; 95%CI) (1.17; 1.02-1.34 vs ≥ 10 years). Cancer specialist main providers were associated with less prevalent discontinuity (0.81; 0.66-0.99 vs. primary care). Better scores on all three care-coordination summary measures were associated with less prevalent discontinuity: main provider (0.73; 0.64-0.83), across multiple providers (0.81; 0.78-0.83), patient-provider partnership (0.85; 0.80-0.89). CONCLUSIONS: Care discontinuity among childhood cancer survivors is prevalent and requires intervention.
