RESUMEN

This study aimed to produce single-chain recombinant Anguillid eel follicle-stimulating hormone (rec-eel FSH) analogs with high activity in Cricetulus griseus ovary DG44 (CHO DG44) cells. We recently reported that an O-linked glycosylated carboxyl-terminal peptide (CTP) of the equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG) ß-subunit contributes to high activity and time-dependent secretion in mammalian cells. We constructed a mutant (FSH-M), in which a linker including the eCG ß-subunit CTP region (amino acids 115-149) was inserted between the ß-subunit and α-subunit of wild-type single-chain eel FSH (FSH-wt). Plasmids containing eel FSH-wt and eel FSH-M were transfected into CHO DG44 cells, and single cells expressing each protein were isolated from 10 and 7 clones. Secretion increased gradually during the cultivation period and peaked at 4000-5000 ng/mL on day 9. The molecular weight of eel FSH-wt was 34-40 kDa, whereas that of eel FSH-M increased substantially, with two bands at 39-46 kDa. Treatment with PNGase F to remove the N glycosylation sites decreased the molecular weight remarkably to approximately 8 kDa. The EC50 value and maximal responsiveness of eel FSH-M were approximately 1.23- and 1.06-fold higher than those of eel FSH-wt, indicating that the mutant showed slightly higher biological activity. Phosphorylated extracellular-regulated kinase (pERK1/2) activation exhibited a sharp peak at 5 min, followed by a rapid decline. These findings indicate that the new rec-eel FSH molecule with the eCG ß-subunit CTP linker shows potent activity and could be produced in massive quantities using the stable CHO DG44 cell system.

BACKGROUND: The ricefield eel Monopterus albus undergoes a natural sex change from female to male during its life cycle, and previous studies have shown the potential mechanisms of this transition at the transcriptional and protein levels. However, the changes in protein levels have not been fully explored, especially in the intersexual stage. RESULTS: In the present study, the protein expression patterns in the gonadal tissues from five different periods, the ovary (OV), early intersexual stage gonad (IE), middle intersexual stage gonad (IM), late intersexual stage gonad (IL), and testis (TE), were determined by untargeted proteomics sequencing. A total of 5125 proteins and 394 differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were detected in the gonadal tissues. Of the 394 DEPs, there were 136 between the OV and IE groups, 20 between the IM and IE groups, 179 between the IL and IM groups, and 59 between the TE and IL groups. Three candidate proteins, insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 isoform X1 (Igf2bp3), triosephosphate isomerase (Tpi), and Cu-Zn superoxide dismutase isoform X1 [(Cu-Zn) Sod1], were validated by western blotting to verify the reliability of the data. Furthermore, metal metabolite-related proteins were enriched in the IL vs. IM groups and TE vs. IL groups, which had close relationships with sex change, including Cu2+-, Ca2+-, Zn2+- and Fe2+/Fe3+-related proteins. Analysis of the combined transcriptome data revealed consistent protein/mRNA expression trends for two metal metabolite-related proteins/genes [LOC109953912 and calcium Binding Protein 39 Like (cab39l)]. Notably, we detected significantly higher levels of Cu2+ during the sex change process, suggesting that Cu2+ is a male-related metal metabolite that may have an important function in male reproductive development. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, we analyzed the protein profiles of ricefield eel gonadal tissues in five sexual stages (OV, IE, IM, IL, and TE) and verified the plausibility of the data. After preforming the functional enrichment of metal metabolite-related DEPs, we detected the contents of the metal metabolites Zn2+, Cu2+, Ca2+, and Fe2+/Fe3+ at these five stages and screened for (Cu-Zn) Sod1 and Mmp-9 as possible key proteins in the sex reversal process.

The heat waves on the South Pacific coast could lead to thermal stress in native fish. The red cusk-eel (Genypterus chilensis) is relevant for Chilean artisanal fisheries and aquaculture diversification. This study examined the effect of high-temperature stress in the gills of G. chilensis in control (14 °C) and high-temperature stress (19 °C) conditions. High-temperature stress induces a significant increase in gills cortisol levels. Additionally, oxidative damage was observed in gills (protein carbonylation and lipoperoxidation). RNA-seq data was used to build the first transcriptome assembly of gills in this species (23,656 annotated transcripts). A total of 1138 down-regulated and 1531 up-regulated transcripts were observed in response to high-temperature stress in gills. The enrichment analysis showed immune response and replication enriched processes (on down-regulated transcripts), and processes related to the folding of proteins, endoplasmic reticulum, and transporter activity (on up-regulated transcripts). The present study showed how gills could be affected by high-temperature stress.

RESUMEN

A novel bacterial strain, APC 4016T, was previously isolated from the skin of a snub-nosed spiny eel, Notacanthus chemnitzii, from a depth of 1000 m in the northern Atlantic Ocean. Cells were aerobic, cocci, motile, Gram-positive to Gram-variable staining, and gave rise to orange-pigmented colonies. Growth occurred at 4-40 °C (optimum, 25-28 °C), pH 5.5-12 (optimum, pH 7-7.5), and 0-12 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 1 %). 16S rRNA gene phylogenetic analysis confirmed that strain APC 4016T belonged to the genus Planococcus and was most closely related to Planococcus okeanokoites IFO 12536T (98.98 % 16S similarity). However, digital DNA-DNA hybridization and average nucleotide identity values between these two strains were low, at 20.1 and 83.8 %, respectively. Major (>10 %) cellular fatty acids of strain APC 4016T were iso-C14 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0 and C16 : 1-ω-Alc. The predominant respiratory quinones were menaquinones 5, 6, 7 and 8. The major cellular polar lipids were phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol and phosphatidylethanolamine, and three unknown lipids were also present. The draft genome sequence is 3.6 Mb with a G+C content of 45.25 mol%. This strain was previously shown to have antimicrobial activity and to encode bacteriocin and secondary metabolite biosynthetic gene clusters. Based on the phylogenetic analysis and its distinct phenotypic characteristics, strain APC 4016T is deemed to represent a novel species of the genus Planococcus, and for which the name Planococcus notacanthi sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of this species is APC 4016T (=DSM 115753T=NCIMB 15463T).

Tracing the phylogenetic relationships between species is one of the fundamental objectives of evolutionary biology. Since Charles Darwin's seminal work in the 19th century, considerable progress has been made towards establishing a tree of life that summarises the evolutionary history of species. Nevertheless, substantial uncertainties still remain. Specifically, the relationships at the origins of teleost fishes have been the subject of extensive debate over the last 50 years. This question has major implications for various research fields: there are almost 30,000 species in the teleost group, which includes invaluable model organisms for biomedical, evolutionary and ecological studies. Here, we present the work in which we solved this enigma. We demonstrated that eels are more closely related to bony-tongued fishes than to the rest of teleost fishes. We achieved this by taking advantage of new genomic data and leveraging innovative phylogenetic markers. Notably, in addition to traditional molecular phylogeny methods based on the evolution of gene sequences, we also considered the evolution of gene order along the DNA molecule. We discuss the challenges and opportunities that these new markers represent for the field of molecular phylogeny, and in particular the possibilities they offer for re-examining other controversial branches in the tree of life.


Retracer les relations de parenté entre espèces est un des objectifs fondamentaux de la biologie évolutive. Depuis les travaux fondateurs de Charles Darwin au 19 e siècle, des progrès considérables ont été effectués afin d'établir un arbre du vivant récapitulant l'histoire évolutive de l'ensemble des espèces. Néanmoins, d'importantes zones d'ombre subsistent. En particulier, les relations de parenté à l'origine de la classe des poissons téléostéens ont fait l'objet de nombreux débats, et ce depuis plus de 50 ans. La résolution de cette branche représente un enjeu majeur pour divers domaines de recherche  : on recense près de 30 000 espèces dans ce groupe, qui comprend des organismes modèles précieux à la recherche biomédicale, sur l'évolution, ou en écologie. Nous présentons ici les travaux qui nous ont permis d'élucider cette énigme. Nous avons pu démontrer que le groupe des « anguilliformes ¼ est plus proche de celui des poissons à langue osseuse qu'il ne l'est du reste des poissons téléostéens. Pour ce faire, nous avons tiré avantage de nouvelles données génomiques et de l'utilisation de marqueurs phylogénétiques innovants. En effet, en complément des méthodes de phylogénie moléculaire classiques qui se basent sur l'évolution des séquences des gènes, nous considérons également l'évolution de l'ordre des gènes le long de la molécule d'ADN. Nous discutons des défis et opportunités que ces nouveaux marqueurs représentent pour le domaine de la phylogénie moléculaire, et en particulier des possibilités qu'ils offrent pour réexaminer d'autres positions controversées de l'arbre du vivant.

The eel gobies fascinate researchers with many important features, including its unique body structure, benthic lifestyle, and degenerated eyes. However, genome assembly and exploration of the unique genomic composition of the eel gobies are still in their infancy. This has severely limited research progress on gobies. In this study, multi-platform sequencing data were generated and used to assemble and annotate the genome of O. rebecca at the chromosome-level. The assembled genome size of O. rebecca is 918.57 Mbp, which is similar to the estimated genome size (903.03 Mbp) using 17-mer. The scaffold N50 is 41.67 Mbp, and 23 chromosomes were assembled using Hi-C technology with a mounting rate of 99.96%. Genome annotation indicates that 53.29% of the genome is repetitive sequences, and 22,999 protein-coding genes are predicted, of which 21,855 have functional annotations. The chromosome-level genome of O. rebecca will not only provide important genomic resources for comparative genomic studies of gobies, but also expand our knowledge of the genetic origin of their unique features fascinating researchers for decades.

Fish marking is an essential tool for fisheries management, especially for evaluating the stocking of endangered fish species to support conservation and sustainable use of fish stocks. Batch marking of young European eels Anguilla anguilla (L.) prior to stocking is recommended as the benefits of stocking for the spawning stock can be evaluated by recapturing marked fish over time, therefore mass marking of young eels with substances such as alizarin red S (ARS) is becoming increasingly important. To improve the marking method and reduce marking costs when immersing glass eels in an ARS solution, eight laboratory experiments under varying conditions (e.g., temperature, ARS concentration, immersion time, osmotic induction, fish density) and with ARS from different suppliers were carried out. The results show that optimal marking of glass eels can be carried out in the field or during transport by putting approximately 50 g of glass eels per liter in 150 mg L-1 ARS solution for 3 h at 10-15°C. Lower concentrations did not result in reliable marking. Water temperatures of 5°C and below can have a stunning effect on the eels and increase mortality significantly, regardless of the concentration of ARS. Glass eel densities below 50 g L-1 in the marking bath increase marking costs unnecessarily, while a higher density of 100 g L-1 resulted in significantly higher mortality and lower marking success. A somewhat more difficult but less expensive alternative is to bathe the fish in a saline solution of 1% (10 PSU) of 80 mg L-1 ARS for 3 h at 10°C. Costs can also be significantly reduced by choice of supplier for ARS, but care should be taken as the quality of the powder appears to vary (mean percentage of sufficiently marked eels ranged from 59% to 91% among suppliers in the present study) and can lead to marking failure. The optimal marking conditions can help ensure that stocked glass eels can be reliably identified in future studies to assess stocking benefits while reducing costs.

Two new cutthroat eel species are described from Vietnam. Dysomma intermedium sp. nov. has a relatively long trunk, being about half of head length and anal-fin origin more than twice pectoral-fin length behind the pectoral-fin tip; pectoral fin well developed; dorsal-fin origin over or slightly in front of base of pectoral fin; two intermaxillary teeth; four or five compound teeth on ethmovomer; single row of seven or eight teeth on lower jaw; total lateral-line pores 70-76; and 21 pre-anal and 118-124 total vertebrae. Dysommina brevis sp. nov. differs from congeners by having a trunk shorter than head length, its length 11.1%-11.8% TL; a short pre-anal length 24.6%-25.6% TL, eye diameter 11.8%-12.3% head length; three large and one or two small teeth on ethmovomer; and fewer teeth on the upper and lower jaws. In addition, a specimen representing the first record of Dysommina orientalis in Vietnamese water is documented.

Eel is a commercially important marine fish, frequently featured as sushi or roasted preparations. This study determined the formation of heterocyclic amines (HAs) and advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in roasted eel and evaluated the inhibitory mechanism of quercetin and l-ascorbic acid on their formation. The results indicate a respective reduction of 75.07% and 84.72% in total HAs, alongside a decline of 23.03% and 39.14% in AGEs. Additionally, fundamental parameters of roasted eel, lipid oxidation indicators and precursors were measured to elucidate the mechanisms and impact of natural antioxidants on HAs and AGEs formation in roasted eel. Furthermore, endeavors were made to probe into the molecular mechanisms governing the influence of key differential lipids on the generation of HAs and AGEs through lipid-mics analysis. This research emphasizes the potential of natural antioxidants in preventing harmful substances formation during eel thermal processing, which is helpful to food manufacturers for healthier food production.

A new species of the ophichthid eel of the family Ophichthidae is described based on five specimens collected from the Mudasalodai fish landing center, off Cuddalore coast, southeast coast of India, Bay of Bengal. Ophichthus naevius sp. nov. is distinguished from its congeners by having a unique color pattern: dorsal body with numerous dense dark spots or patches, ventral body pale yellowish green, dorsal-fin origin just before pectoral-fin tip, vertebral formula: 12-14/52-53/134-138, and teeth on jaw uniserial and pointed. The study also reports the range extension and molecular evidence of Ophichthus chilkensis from South India. Molecular analyses were performed for both species, and their phylogenetic relationship suggests that the new species exhibits 10.2% genetic divergence with its congener Ophichthus sangjuensis, followed by Ophichthus brevicaudatus (10.4%), and Ophichthus sp. 1 (11.8%) also forms the closest clade in both Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood (ML) tree. Similarly, according to the topology of the ML tree, the species O. chilkensis forms a clade with Ophichthus sp. 5, Ophichthus remiger, Ophichthus frontalis, Ophichthus sp. 6, and Ophichthus rex, suggesting that it would be the genetically closest congener.

In the present research, the enzyme-facilitated collagen from sea eel (Muraenesox cinereus) swim bladder was isolated, and the collagen characteristics were analyzed. Then, the collagen sponge was prepared and its potential mechanism in promoting skin wound healing in mice was further investigated. Collagen was obtained from the swim bladder of sea eels employing the pepsin extraction technique. Single-factor experiments served as the basis for the response surface method (RSM) to optimize pepsin concentration, solid-liquid ratio, and hydrolysis period. With a pepsin concentration of 2067 U/g, a solid-liquid ratio of 1:83 g/mL, and a hydrolysis period of 10 h, collagen extraction achieved a yield of 93.76%. The physicochemical analysis revealed that the extracted collagen belonged to type I collagen, and the collagen sponge displayed a fibrous structure under electron microscopy. Furthermore, in comparison to the control group, mice treated with collagen sponge dressing exhibited elevated activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), and decreased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), interleukin (IL)-1ß, interleukin (IL)-6, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α. The collagen sponge dressing effectively alleviated inflammation in the wound area, facilitating efficient repair and rapid healing of the skin tissue. During the initial phase of wound healing, the group treated with collagen sponge dressing exhibited an enhancement in the expressions of cluster of differentiation (CD)31, epidermal growth factor (EGF), transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1, and type I collagen, leading to an accelerated rate of wound healing. In addition, this collagen sponge dressing could also downregulate the expressions of CD31, EGF, and type I collagen to prevent scar formation in the later stage. Moreover, this collagen treatment minimized oxidative damage and inflammation during skin wound healing and facilitated blood vessel formation in the wound. Consequently, it exhibits significant potential as an ideal material for the development of a skin wound dressing.

High levels of D-amino acid oxidase (DAO) are associated with neurological and psychiatric disorders, while L-amino acid oxidase (LAO) exhibits antimicrobial and antitumor properties. The enzymatic conversion of the non-fluorescent kynurenine (KYN) into the endogenous weak fluorescent kynurenic acid (KYNA) by the action of DAO has previously been reported. However, the fluorescence of KYNA can be improved by changing the substituents on the aromatic rings. In this study, we prepared different 6-phenyl-substituted KYNA derivatives and investigated their fluorescence properties. Among them, 2-MePh-KYNA showed the maximum fluorescence quantum yield of 0.881 at 340 nm excitation and 418 nm emission wavelengths. The effects of solvent properties (dielectric constant, pKa, viscosity, and proticity) on the fluorescence intensity (FLI) of the KYNA derivatives were explored. The FLI of 2-MePh-KYNA was significantly large in protic solvents. Subsequently, 2-MePh-D-KYN and 2-MePh-L-KYN were prepared with high enantiopurity (>99.25%) for the enzymatic conversion. 2-MePh-D-KYN exhibited high sensitivity (∼19 times that of a commercial DAO substrate and ∼60 times that of the previously reported MeS-D-KYN) and high selectivity, as it was not cross-reactive towards LAO, while 2-MePh-L-KYN was also converted into 2-MePh-KYNA by LAO. Furthermore, the 2-MePh-D-KYN probe successfully detected DAO in eel liver, kidney, and heparin-anticoagulated plasma in the in vitro study.

With the diversity of consumer demands for healthy food, stricter requirements have been put forward for the product quality of sea eel (Astroconger myriaster). From the common experience, remarkable differences could be observed between different parts of the sea eel. The textures, basic nutritional compositions, and lipid compositions from seven parts of sea eel were investigated to reach a comprehensive evaluation of the nutritional value. Sea eel was high-fat fish which contained 21.65% to 22.84% crude fat from part one to part seven. The seventh segment exhibited a lower moisture content (51.32%) and higher contents of protein (22.76%), ash (2.46%), carbohydrate (0.80%). The third and fourth parts remained higher hardness and good water-holding capacity. Sea eel had sixteen fatty acids, and the tail possessed a higher proportion of n - 3/n - 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Twenty-seven lipid species were determined in sea eel, and highly unsaturated fatty acids mainly stemmed from triglycerides, while saturated fatty acids mainly existed as diglycerides. Section six and seven were primarily diglycerides and monoglycerides. According to the characteristics of different parts, it can provide support for standardized segmentation of sea eel and quality control of different parts.

The neuropeptide B/W signaling system is composed of neuropeptide B (NPB), neuropeptide W (NPW), and two cognate receptors, NPBWR1 and NPBWR2, which are involved in diverse physiological processes, including the central regulation of neuroendocrine axes in vertebrates. The components of this signaling system are not well conserved during vertebrate evolution, implicating its functional diversity. The present study characterized the ricefield eel neuropeptide B/W system, generated a specific antiserum against the neuropeptide B/W receptor, and examined the potential roles of the system in the regulation of adenohypophysial functions. The ricefield eel genome contains npba, npbb, and npbwr2b but lacks the npw, npbwr1, and npbwr2a genes. The loss of npw and npbwr1 probably occurred at the base of ray-finned fish radiation and that of npbwr2a species specifically in ray-finned fish. Npba and npbb genes are produced through whole-genome duplication (WGD) in ray-finned fish. The ricefield eel npba was expressed in the brain and some peripheral tissues, while npbb was predominantly expressed in the brain. The ricefield eel npbwr2b was also expressed in the brain and in some peripheral tissues, such as the pituitary, gonad, heart, and eye. Immunoreactive Npbwr2b was shown to be localized to Lh and Fsh cells but not to Gh or Prl cells in the pituitary of ricefield eels. Npba upregulated the expression of fshb and cga but not lhb mRNA in pituitary fragments of ricefield eels cultured in vitro. The results of the present study suggest that the NPB system of ricefield eels may be involved in the neuroendocrine regulation of reproduction.

Many rural communities in Mozambique get their income from fisheries, as well as consume fish as an inexpensive source of protein. In Mozambique, fish consumption from small-scale fisheries dependent families can range between 60 and 150 kg/person/year. Anguillid eels have important social value to vulnerable local communities in the Incomati Basin. Anguillid eels in the lower Incomati Basin are targeted for consumption, as well as cultural rituals by traditional healers. The aim of the present study was to determine trace element concentrations in environmental matrices, bioaccumulation patterns in muscle and liver tissue of two Anguilla species (Anguilla mossambica and Anguilla marmorata), as well as the chronic health risk these elements pose to regular consumers in the lower Incomati River. Bioaccumulation of elements from the water had a higher effect on both muscle and liver tissues, where only the bioaccumulation of Pb in the sediments played a major role. From the human health risk assessment, Hg pose non-carcinogenic risk, whereas As, Cr, and Ni pose carcinogenic risks.

Anguillid eels have fascinated humans for centuries, but our knowledge of these mysterious fish is still scant. There are 19 species or subspecies in the genus Anguilla, which are found globally, except in the eastern Pacific and southern Atlantic. Their common label 'freshwater eels' is a misnomer - all anguillids are facultatively catadromous, born in marine environments, developing in continental waters, with a proportion never entering freshwater at all. Anguillid eels have several life history traits that have allowed them to exploit a broad range of habitats. As such, anguillid eels play an important ecological role in both marine and freshwater environments as well as being commercially valuable. Because of this, anguillid eels are under threat from multiple stressors, such as barriers to migration, pollution, parasites, disease, climate change and unsustainable exploitation. Six species are listed as Threatened in the Red List of Threatened Species, and four are listed as Data Deficient. Strengthening conservation and management of these species is essential, and further research provides an exciting opportunity to develop a greater understanding of this mysterious clade of fish.

Anguilliform swimmers, like eels or lampreys, are highly efficient swimmers. Key to understanding their performances is the relationship between the body's kinematics and resulting swimming speed and efficiency. But, we cannot prescribe kinematics to living fish, and it is challenging to measure their power consumption. Here, we characterise the swimming speed and cost of transport of a free-swimming undulatory bio-inspired robot as we vary its kinematic parameters, including joint amplitude, body wavelength, and frequency. We identify a trade-off between speed and efficiency. Speed, in terms of stride length, increases for increasing maximum tail angle, described by the newly proposed specific tail amplitude and reaches a maximum value around the specific tail amplitude of unity. Efficiency, in terms of the cost of transport, is affected by the whole-body motion. Cost of transport decreases for increasing travelling wave-like kinematics, and lower specific tail amplitudes. Our results suggest that live eels tend to choose efficiency over speed and provide insights into the key characteristics affecting undulatory swimming performance.

Transcription factors (TFs) play critical roles in specifying many aspects of neuronal cell fate including dendritic morphology. How TFs are accurately regulated during neuronal morphogenesis is not fully understood. Here, we show that LIM homeodomain protein MEC-3, the key TF for C. elegans PVD dendrite morphogenesis, is regulated by both alternative splicing and an E3 ubiquitin ligase. The mec-3 gene generates several transcripts by alternative splicing. We find that mbl-1, the orthologue of the muscular dystrophy disease gene muscleblind-like (MBNL), is required for PVD dendrite arbor formation. Our data suggest mbl-1 regulates the alternative splicing of mec-3 to produce its long isoform. Deleting the long isoform of mec-3(deExon2) causes reduction of dendrite complexity. Through a genetic modifier screen, we find that mutation in the E3 ubiquitin ligase EEL-1 suppresses mbl-1 phenotype. eel-1 mutants also suppress mec-3(deExon2) mutant but not the mec-3 null phenotype. Loss of EEL-1 alone leads to excessive dendrite branches. Together, these results indicate that MEC-3 is fine-tuned by alternative splicing and the ubiquitin system to produce the optimal level of dendrite branches.

Forkhead box H1 (FoxH1) is a sexually dimorphic gene in Oreochromis niloticus, Oplegnathus fasciatus, and Acanthopagrus latus, indicating that it is essential for gonadal development. In the present study, the molecular characteristics and potential function of FoxH1 and the activation of the cyp19a1a promoter in vitro were evaluated in Monopterus albus. The levels of foxh1 in the ovaries were three times higher than those in the testes and were regulated by gonadotropins (Follicle-Stimulating Hormone and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). FoxH1 colocalized with Cyp19a1a in the oocytes and granulosa cells of middle and late vitellogenic follicles. In addition, three FoxH1 binding sites were identified in the proximal promoter of cyp19a1a, namely, FH1 (-871/-860), FH2 (-535/-524), and FH3 (-218/-207). FoxH1 overexpression significantly attenuated the activity of the cyp19a1a promoter in CHO cells, and FH1/2 mutation increased promoter activity. Taken together, these results suggest that FoxH1 may act as an important regulator in the ovarian development of M. albus by repressing cyp19a1a promoter activity, which provides a foundation for the study of FoxH1 function in bony fish reproductive processes.
