RESUMEN

PURPOSE: Healthcare workforce shortages, particularly in rural areas, present a global challenge. The purpose of this study is to explore the leadership dynamics within federally qualified health centers (FQHC) in rural Oklahoma, focusing on recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and development practices. DESIGN/METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: Eighteen managers with five or more years of tenure from Oklahoma FQHCs were interviewed. Leadership's role in influencing job satisfaction, recruitment, retention and development practices was analyzed using a multilevel ecological framework through qualitative content analysis with NVivo. FINDINGS: The analysis includes ten key themes including the critical role of leadership in addressing recruitment and retention challenges, the importance of aligning organizational culture, rural culture, access challenges, trainings and values with workforce development initiatives, and the impact of leadership practices on job satisfaction. ORIGINALITY/VALUE: This study uniquely examines leadership strategies in rural FQHCs, integrating ecological considerations for cultural, logistical and community-specific factors. It emphasizes the pivotal role leadership plays in shaping workforce development. As rural healthcare evolves, refining these approaches is crucial for addressing workforce challenges, improving healthcare access and ensuring that rural FQHCs remain sustainable, driving positive outcomes for healthcare professionals and communities.

RESUMEN

Octomacrum spinum Dansby & Shoemaker, 1973, is reported for the first time from 23 of 146 (16%) highland stonerollers, Campostoma spadiceum collected from central and western Arkansas and southeastern Oklahoma, USA. Analysis of molecular data revealed that the SSU rRNA gene of specimens of O. spinum from Arkansas was identical to a number of Octomacrum spp. and the LSU rRNA gene was 97.46% similar to Octomacrum europaeum. We also provide a summary of the species of Octomacrum reported from North American and European fishes.

Prostate cancer disproportionately affects Black men in the United States, leading to higher mortality rates and health disparities. In addition, based on historical mistreatment and discrimination and the resulting distrust of the medical system, Black populations are consistently underrepresented in health care-related research. Addressing these challenges requires community-driven approaches integrating diverse perspectives and fostering equitable health outcomes. This article describes the formation and impact of The Multidisciplinary Health Outcomes Research and Economics (MORE) Lab Community Advisory Board (CAB) at The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences. We purposefully recruited Black men with CaP and Black health care professionals to serve on a CAB and advise on ongoing research to address quality of life (QoL) issues in ethnically diverse Black CaP survivors. The CAB seeks to mitigate CaP disparities and improve health equity by empowering Black voices and promoting collaborative research practices. The MORE Lab CAB has successfully provided a venue for community members to contribute to designing a culturally relevant research program to improve the QoL in ethnically diverse Black men with CaP. The CAB has been instrumental in developing research goals and tools, implementing a series of town hall meetings to educate and support Black CaP survivors, and disseminating research findings. In conclusion, CABs are potentially critical in guiding research, enhancing community engagement, and advocating for culturally responsive health interventions.

INTRODUCTION: In May 2022, lawmakers in Oklahoma passed House Bill 4327, which outlawed abortion after fertilization. The governor signed the bill on May 25, 2022. It is uncertain whether these changes will motivate more men in Oklahoma to undergo vasectomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Males seeking vasectomy were informed of the study and asked to participate. Participants filled out a survey regarding their marital status, number of children, fertility treatment history, and their influences in making the decision to pursue vasectomy. We removed the identifying information from the survey. After collection, the data was imported to a database. Medical records were investigated to confirm patients underwent the procedure. RESULTS: Of the 126 participants, 116 underwent vasectomy. Patients who did not undergo vasectomy tended to be older (38.4 vs. 34.2, p = 0.03). Participants who underwent vasectomy and were concerned about abortion laws tended to be married (69.7 vs. 30.3%, p = 0.04) with fewer children (1.2 vs. 2.3, p < 0.0001). When correlating specifically "concern about abortion laws" and going through with vasectomy, the risk ratio of 1.12 (95% CI 1.04, 1.20) indicates that patients concerned about abortion laws were slightly more likely to undergo vasectomy. CONCLUSIONS: Over 26% of men said that their decisions were somewhat impacted by abortion law changes. The concern about abortion law changes seemed to be predictive of patients undergoing vasectomy. Continued data collection will help determine whether there is a time-sensitive nature regarding the impact of abortion law changes on motivation to vasectomy.

Scarcity of stream salinity data poses a challenge to understanding salinity dynamics and its implications for water supply management in water-scarce salt-prone regions around the world. This paper introduces a framework for generating continuous daily stream salinity estimates using instance-based transfer learning (TL) and assessing the reliability of the synthetic salinity data through uncertainty quantification via prediction intervals (PIs). The framework was developed using two temporally distinct specific conductance (SC) datasets from the Upper Red River Basin (URRB) located in southwestern Oklahoma and Texas Panhandle, United States. The instance-based TL approach was implemented by calibrating Feedforward Neural Networks (FFNNs) on a source SC dataset of around 1200 instantaneous grab samples collected by United States Geological Survey (USGS) from 1959 to 1993. The trained FFNNs were subsequently tested on a target dataset (1998-present) of 220 instantaneous grab samples collected by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB). The framework's generalizability was assessed in the data-rich Bird Creek watershed in Oklahoma by manipulating continuous SC data to simulate data-scarce conditions for training the models and using the complete Bird Creek dataset for model evaluation. The Lower Upper Bound Estimation (LUBE) method was used with FFNNs to estimate PIs for uncertainty quantification. Autoregressive SC prediction methods via FFNN were found to be reliable with Nash Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) values of 0.65 and 0.45 on in-sample and out-of-sample test data, respectively. The same modeling scenario resulted in an NSE of 0.54 for the Bird Creek data using a similar missing data ratio, whereas a higher ratio of observed data increased the accuracy (NSE = 0.84). The relatively narrow estimated PIs for the North Fork Red River in the URRB indicated satisfactory stream salinity predictions, showing an average width equivalent to 25 % of the observed range and a confidence level of 70 %.

Four methane-oxidizing bacteria, designated as strains WSC-6T, WSC-7T, SURF-1T, and SURF-2T, were isolated from Saddle Mountain Creek in southwestern Oklahoma, USA, and the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota, USA. The strains were Gram-negative, motile, short rods that possessed intracytoplasmic membranes characteristic of type I methanotrophs. All four strains were oxidase-negative and weakly catalase-positive. Colonies ranged from pale pink to orange in colour. Methane and methanol were the only compounds that could serve as carbon and energy sources for growth. Strains WSC-6T and WSC-7T grew optimally at lower temperatures (25 and 20 °C, respectively) compared to strains SURF-1T and SURF-2T (40 °C). Strains WSC-6T and SURF-2T were neutrophilic (optimal pH of 7.5 and 7.3, respectively), while strains WSC-7T and SURF-1T were slightly alkaliphilic, with an optimal pH of 8.8. The strains grew best in media amended with ≤0.5% NaCl. The major cellular fatty acids were C14 : 0, C16 : 1 ω8c, C16 : 1 ω7c, and C16 : 1 ω5c. The DNA G+C content ranged from 51.5 to 56.0 mol%. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that the strains belonged to the genus Methylomonas, with each exhibiting 98.6-99.6% 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to closely related strains. Genome-wide estimates of relatedness (84.5-88.4% average nucleotide identity, 85.8-92.4% average amino acid identity and 27.4-35.0% digital DNA-DNA hybridization) fell below established thresholds for species delineation. Based on these combined results, we propose to classify these strains as representing novel species of the genus Methylomonas, for which the names Methylomonas rivi (type strain WSC-6T=ATCC TSD-251T=DSM 112293T), Methylomonas rosea (type strain WSC-7T=ATCC TSD-252T=DSM 112281T), Methylomonas aurea (type strain SURF-1T=ATCC TSD-253T=DSM 112282T), and Methylomonas subterranea (type strain SURF-2T=ATCC TSD-254T=DSM 112283T) are proposed.

BACKGROUND: Tobacco quitlines provide effective resources (eg, nicotine replacement therapy, smoking cessation counseling, and text and web-based support) for those who want to quit smoking in the United States. However, quitlines reach approximately only 1%-3% of people who smoke each year. Novel, smartphone-based, and low-burden interventions that offer 24/7 access to smoking cessation resources that are tailored to current readiness to quit may increase appeal, reach, and effectiveness of smoking cessation interventions. OBJECTIVE: This study will examine the efficacy of OKquit, a low-burden smartphone-based app for smoking cessation. METHODS: Approximately 500 people who smoke cigarettes and access the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline (OTH) will be randomized to receive standard OTH care (SC) or SC plus the novel OKquit smartphone app for smoking cessation (OKquit). All participants will use a smartphone app to complete study surveys (ie, baseline, 27 weekly surveys, brief daily check-ins, and 27-week follow-up). Upon completion of daily check-ins and weekly surveys, participants will receive either trivia type messages (SC) or messages that are tailored to current readiness to quit smoking and currently experienced lapse triggers (OKquit). In addition, those assigned to receive the OKquit app will have access to on-demand smoking cessation content (eg, quit tips, smoking cessation medication tips). It is hypothesized that participants assigned to OKquit will be more likely to achieve biochemically verified 7-day point prevalence abstinence than those assigned to SC at 27 weeks post enrollment. In addition, participants who use more OTH resources (eg, more cessation coaching sessions completed) or more OKquit resources (eg, access more quit tips) will have greater biochemically verified smoking cessation rates. RESULTS: Data collection began in September 2022 and final follow-ups are expected to be completed by May 2025. CONCLUSIONS: Data from this randomized controlled trial will determine whether the OKquit smartphone app combined with OTH care will increase smoking cessation rates over standard OTH care alone. If successful, OKquit could provide tailored intervention content at a fraction of the cost of traditional interventions. Furthermore, this type of low-burden intervention may offer a way to reach underserved populations of adults who smoke and want to quit. Two new species of lung-dwelling nematodes are described from North American frogs: Rhabdias aurorae n. sp. from Rana aurora and Rhabdias conni n. sp. from Rana clamitans and Rana catesbeiana from Arkansas; the latter species was also found in Oklahoma and Georgia. Rhabdias aurorae n. sp. differs from other Nearctic congeners in the combination of the following characteristics: buccal capsule 22-25 µm wide, elongated tail covered with inflated cuticle, esophagus with prominent dilatation in anterior part and 6 small circumoral lips. Rhabdias conni n. sp. is morphologically closest to Rhabdias ranae Walton, 1929 and Rhabdias joaquinensisIngles, 1936; it differs from them in the shape of lateral pseudolabia, the dimensions of the body, and the egg size. Both new species were found to be significantly different from the Nearctic congeners in the nucleotide sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA (18S-ITS-28S region), 12S, and CO1 mitochondrial genes. The 2 new species differ from other currently sequenced Nearctic congeners by 1.1-2.7% of nucleotide positions in the nuclear rDNA region, 1.3-3.4% in the 12S gene, and 3.4-9.4% in CO1 gene. Molecular phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences placed both new species into the clade consisting of Nearctic and Neotropical Rhabdias spp. The position of Rh. aurorae n. sp. within the clade is uncertain because of a polytomy, but Rh. conni n. sp. is nested within the "Rh. joaquinensis complex" related to Rh. ranae and Rhabdias tarichaeKuzmin, Tkach, and Snyder, 2003. The phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear ribosomal DNA sequences has revealed 3 evolutionary host-switching events from anuran to caudatan hosts among Rhabdias spp. that occurred in the Nearctic and Palearctic. The molecular phylogeny also suggests that Rhabdias may have originally evolved in what is now Africa.

BACKGROUND: Most research examining first responders of terrorist incidents has been conducted in early post-disaster periods, utilized quantitative research methods, and focused on psychopathology such as post-traumatic stress. METHODS: Longitudinal follow-up assessments of 124 workers from 181 baseline volunteer rescue and recovery workers originally studied were completed nearly a quarter century after the terrorist bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Open-ended qualitative interviews were used in the follow-up study. RESULTS: The rescue and recovery work, vividly described decades later, was gruesome. These workers' descriptions captured their mental toughness and their professional missions, as well as the emotional and mental health (MH) toll on their lives. CONCLUSIONS: The extreme nature of rescue and recovery work in the aftermath of terrorism suggests potential utility for MH interventions to address the psychological toll that can be expected of human beings under the most extraordinary circumstances.

Background: This study explored the increased quantity and frequency of alcohol use in the American Indian (AI) population during the COVID-19 pandemic.Objectives: The aims of this study were to explore possible associations between covariables and both binge drinking and alcohol consumption during COVID-19.Methods: This cross-sectional survey study analyzed data from a sample of AI individuals (63% female) residing in California (n = 411) and Oklahoma (n = 657) between October 2020-January 2021. Analysis included summary statistics and multivariable logistic regression, including a variety of socio-economic, COVID-19 concern, and tobacco and marijuana use variables.Results: One or more alcohol binge episodes were reported between October 2020-January 2021 in 19.3% of participants and elevated overall alcohol consumption was reported by 21.6% of participants. Higher odds of elevated alcohol consumption occurred in women and those following more social distancing measures. The odds of binge drinking or elevated alcohol consumption in those using both marijuana and tobacco (aOR/ adjusted odds ratio:18.9, 95% CI = 8.5, 42.2, and aOR:3.9, 95% CI = 1.7, 8.6, respectively) were higher compared to those using neither. Similarly, the odds of binge drinking or elevated alcohol consumption in those using tobacco only (aOR:4.7, 95% CI = 2.9, 7.7 and aOR: 2.0, 95% CI = 1.1, 3.5, respectively) were higher compared to those using neither.Conclusions: This study found high rates of alcohol use and bingeing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Offering collaborative, culturally sensitive, and affordable support services are important components of intervention and preparation for future stressful events on local, as well as global levels.

Soil microbial communities are fundamental to ecosystem processes and plant growth, yet community composition is seasonally and successionally dynamic, which interferes with long-term iterative experimentation of plant-microbe interactions. We explore how soil sample handling (e.g. filtering) and sample storage conditions impact the ability to revive the original, physiologically active, soil microbial community. We obtained soil from agricultural fields in Montana and Oklahoma, USA and samples were sieved to 2 mm or filtered to 45 µm. Sieved and filtered soil samples were archived at -20°C or -80°C for 50 days and revived for 2 or 7 days. We extracted DNA and the more transient RNA pools from control and treatment samples and characterized microbial communities using 16S amplicon sequencing. Filtration and storage treatments significantly altered soil microbial communities, impacting both species richness and community composition. Storing sieved soil at -20°C did not alter species richness and resulted in the least disruption to the microbial community composition in comparison to nonarchived controls as characterized by RNA pools from soils of both sites. Filtration significantly altered composition but not species richness. Archiving sieved soil at -20°C could allow for long-term and repeated experimentation on preserved physiologically active microbial communities.

CONTEXT: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for a well-trained public health workforce prior to the public health crisis. Public health training centers regularly assess workforce needs and their pre-pandemic data play vital roles in guiding public health workforce development beyond the crisis. PROGRAM: In 2019, Oklahoma partners of the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center (R6SCPHTC) co-conducted an online survey of the public health workforce located in the Health Resources & Services Administration Region 6. IMPLEMENTATION: Between March and April, the R6SCPHTC collected 503 surveys, including 201 surveys from Oklahoma. Questions inquired about demographic and workforce characteristics, work contexts, training needs and interests, training access and logistics, and knowledge of R6SCPHTC online resources. EVALUATION: Key findings included that two-thirds of the pre-pandemic Oklahoma public health workforce consisted of employees age 40 or older with few holding public health or medical degrees. The majority of respondents worked for health departments and Tribes, and almost half were frontline workers. Although at least half of the participants interested in training on public health activities and topics were familiar with them, confidence in their abilities related to these activities and topics was expressed by less than half. Qualitative data provided details on training needs addressed quantitatively and described new training areas. Survey participants expressed interest in diverse training delivery methods and technological devices. Most respondents were not familiar with the free trainings available through the R6SCPHTC. DISCUSSION: Similar to the regional and national public health workforce, Oklahoma's workforce needed training and support already before COVID-19. Time and resources need to be invested into the current and future workforce. While addressing priority public health skills and topics remains important, training on current and emerging topics is needed. Providing accessible trainings with expanded content will prepare Oklahoma's public health workforce for the future.

OBJECTIVE: Much of disaster mental health research uses quantitative methods, focusing on numerical prevalence, services, and outcomes. METHODS: Qualitative methods can provide more detailed, rich, and spontaneous insights into personal disaster experiences, yielding important insights beyond deductive methods. This large-scale qualitative narrative study examined experiences of 181 Oklahoma City bombing rescue/recovery workers. RESULTS: Thematic narrative content of the bombing experience arose from personal accounts of the bomb blast by rescue/recovery workers proceeding chronologically from initial awareness and deployment to harrowing onsite search and rescue/recovery missions to the aftermath with reflections on the bombing. CONCLUSIONS: Beyond disaster recovery/rescue worker stories published in popular media, little other substantive published knowledge on this topic is available, and therefore this research study provides a wealth of new in-depth information that can provide guidance for policy and practice for disaster response.

The states of Kansas and Oklahoma, in the central Great Plains, lie at the western periphery of the geographic distributions of several tick species. As the focus of most research on ticks and tick-borne diseases has been on Lyme disease which commonly occurs in areas to the north and east, the ticks of this region have seen little research attention. Here, we report on the phenology and activity patterns shown by tick species observed at 10 sites across the two states and explore factors associated with abundance of all and life specific individuals of the dominant species. Ticks were collected in 2020-2022 using dragging, flagging and carbon-dioxide trapping techniques, designed to detect questing ticks. The dominant species was A. americanum (24098, 97%) followed by Dermacentor variabilis (370, 2%), D. albipictus (271, 1%), Ixodes scapularis (91, <1%) and A. maculatum (38, <1%). Amblyomma americanum, A. maculatum and D. variabilis were active in Spring and Summer, while D. albipictus and I. scapularis were active in Fall and Winter. Factors associated with numbers of individuals of A. americanum included day of year, habitat, and latitude. Similar associations were observed when abundance was examined by life-stage. Overall, the picture is one of broadly distributed tick species that shows seasonal limitations in the timing of their questing activity.

OBJECTIVES: Outbreaks of injection drug use (IDU)-associated infections have become major public health concerns in the era of the opioid epidemic. This study aimed to (1) identify county-level characteristics associated with acute HCV infection and newly diagnosed IDU-associated HIV in Oklahoma and (2) develop a vulnerability index using these metrics. METHODS: This study employs a county-level ecological design to examine those diagnosed with acute or chronic HCV or newly diagnosed IDU-associated HIV. Poisson regression was used to estimate the association between indicators and the number of new infections in each county. Primary outcomes were acute HCV and newly diagnosed IDU-associated HIV. A sensitivity analysis included all HCV (acute and chronic) cases. Three models were run using variations of these outcomes. Stepwise backward Poisson regression predicted new infection rates and 95% confidence intervals for each county from the final multivariable model, which served as the metric for vulnerability scores. RESULTS: Predictors for HIV-IDU cases and acute HCV cases differed. The percentage of the county population aged 18-24 years with less than a high school education and population density were predictive of new HIV-IDU cases, whereas the percentage of the population that was male, white, Pacific Islander, two or more races, and people aged 18-24 years with less than a high school education were predictors of acute HCV infection. Counties with the highest predicted rates of HIV-IDU tended to be located in central Oklahoma and have higher population density than the counties with the highest predicted rates of acute HCV infection. CONCLUSIONS: There is high variability in county-level factors predictive of new IDU-associated HIV infection and acute HCV infection, suggesting that different public health interventions need to be tailored to these two case populations.

BACKGROUND: Coccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal disease endemic to arid regions of the Western Hemisphere. In the south-western US, Coccidioides spp. may account for up to 20%-25% of all cases of community acquired pneumonia. Clinical manifestations vary widely, from asymptomatic infection to life-threatening disease, especially in immunocompromised hosts. OBJECTIVES: The primary objective of the study was to characterise cases of coccidioidomycosis in an area of the United States not considered traditionally endemic for the disease. METHODS: We performed a single-centre retrospective study of all cases of coccidioidomycosis from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2020, in the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Medical Center. RESULTS: A total of 26 patients were included for analysis. The central nervous system (CNS) and the lungs were the sites most frequently involved. Twenty (77%) had travelled to a coccidioidomycosis endemic region. Most were male (81%) with a median age of 42 years (range: 3-78 years). The majority (46%) were Caucasians, 19% were African American, 19% Hispanic, and 12% Native American. The most common comorbidities were diabetes mellitus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome, identified in 27% and 23% of patients, respectively. Patients on immunosuppressive therapy accounted for 12% of all cases. CONCLUSION: Our study is one of the largest single-centre case series of coccidioidomycosis from a non-endemic area. Diabetes mellitus was the most frequent comorbidity. Compared to other case series of coccidioidomycosis, our patient population had higher rates of immunosuppression and had both a higher rate of disseminated disease and overall mortality.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices among providers and patients regarding hearing impairment and screening referrals in people with diabetes. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey design among health care providers and patients at an academic medical center in Oklahoma was used to gather knowledge, attitudes, and practices data. RESULTS: Only 25.6% of providers selected hearing impairment as a complication of diabetes, whereas 96.7% selected retinopathy, kidney dysfunction, and foot infection. Reported barriers to referring patients for hearing impairment screenings were being unfamiliar with recommended screening frequency (57.3%) and existence of higher priorities (35.4%). When asked to select parts of the body affected by diabetes, 21.0% of patients surveyed selected ears, 88.0% selected feet, and 85.0% selected eyes and kidneys. Fewer patients reported being told hearing impairment is a complication of diabetes compared to retinopathy (8.1% vs 85.9%). Additionally, 24.2% of patients reported having a hearing impairment screening, and 96.0% reported having a dilated eye exam. CONCLUSIONS: Most providers and patients at an academic medical center are unaware of the relationship between diabetes and hearing impairment. Providers reported there are several barriers that need to be overcome to refer patients to audiologists.

OBJECTIVE: Annual trends of lower extremity amputation due to end-stage chronic disease are on the rise in the United States. These amputations are leading to massive expenses for patients and the medical system. In Oklahoma, we have a high-risk population because access to care is low, the number of uninsured is high, cardiovascular health is poor, and our overall health care performance is ranked 50th in the country. But we know little about Oklahomans and their risk of limb loss. It is, therefore, imperative to look closely at this population to discover contemporary rates, trends, and state-specific risk factors for amputation due to diabetes and/or peripheral arterial disease (PAD). We hypothesize that state-specific groups will be identified as having the highest risk for limb loss and that contemporary trends in amputations are rising. To create implementable solutions to limb preservation, a baseline must be set. METHODS: We conducted a 12-consecutive-year observational study using Oklahoma's hospital discharge data. Discharges among patients 20 years or older with a primary or secondary diagnosis of diabetes and/or PAD were included. Diagnoses and amputation procedures were identified using International Classification of Disease-9 and -10 codes. Amputation rates were calculated per 1000 discharges. Trends in amputation rates were measured by annual percentage changes (APC). Prevalence ratios evaluated the differences in amputation rates across demographic groups. RESULTS: Over 5,000,000 discharges were identified from 2008 to 2019. Twenty-four percent had a diagnosis of diabetes and/or PAD. The overall amputation rate was 12 per 1000 discharges for those with diabetes and/or PAD. Diabetes and/or PAD-related amputation rates increased from 8.1 to 16.2 (APC, 6.0; 95% confidence interval [CI], 4.7-7.3). Most amputations were minor (59.5%), and although minor, increased at a faster rate compared with major amputations (minor amputation APC, 8.1; 95% CI, 6.7-9.6 vs major amputation APC, 3.1; 95% CI, 1.5-4.7); major amputations were notable in that they were significantly increasing. Amputation rates were the highest among males (16.7), American Indians (19.2), uninsured (21.2), non-married patients (12.7), and patients between 45 and 49 years of age (18.8), and calculated prevalence ratios for each were significant (P = .001) when compared within their respective category. CONCLUSIONS: Amputation rates in Oklahoma have nearly doubled in 12 years, with both major and minor amputations significantly increasing. This study describes a worsening trend, underscoring that amputations due to chronic disease is an urgent statewide health care problem. We also present imperative examples of amputation health care disparities. By defining these state-specific areas and populations at risk, we have identified areas to pursue and improve care. These distinctive risk factors will help to frame a statewide limb preservation intervention.
