RESUMEN
Background/aim: Peyronie's disease (PD) is known as a wound-healing disorder for which surgery remains the gold-standard treatment, but studies comparing graft materials are limited in the literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the mid- and long-term results of patients who underwent surgery for PD with grafting procedures performed by a single experienced surgeon according to graft materials. Materials and methods: Patients who underwent corporoplasty between 2014 and 2020 with grafting procedures performed by a single experienced surgeon were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 115 patients were divided into 4 groups according to the grafting material used: autologous saphenous venous grafts, Group 1 (n = 36); porcine pericardial extracellular matrix grafts (EMGs; XenoGuard, MBP Medical Biomaterial Products GmbH, Neustadt-Glewe, Germany), Group 2 (n = 40); porcine intestinal submucosal EMGs (BioDesign, Cook Medical, Bloomington, IN, USA), Group 3 (n = 36); and bovine pericardial EMGs (Tutopatch, Tutogen Medical, Inc., Alachua, FL, USA), Group 4 (n = 43). Results: The mean operation time for Group 1 was longer than that of the other groups (p < 0.001). When comparing the groups in pairs, it was observed that the duration of postoperative loss of sensation (LOS) was significantly shorter in Group 3 (12.3 ± 5.3 days) and Group 4 (15.1 ± 3.1 days) (p < 0.05). There was a statistically significant difference between Groups 1 and 4 in penile length loss when the groups were compared in pairs (p = 0.017). There was a statistically significant difference between patients with penile curvatures of 0° to 59° and patients with curvatures of ≥60° in terms of duration of postoperative LOS (14.4 ± 5 vs. 16.4 ± 5.8 days, respectively; p = 0.028) and penile length loss (2.6 ± 5 vs. 5.7 ± 6.8 mm, respectively; p = 0.002). Conclusion: The findings suggest that EMGs should be preferred to autologous venous grafts due to reduced postoperative erectile dysfunction, shorter operation time, and shorter recovery time for LOS.

In treating aortic root diseases, the Bentall procedure offers reliable and stable results. However, it requires a prosthetic valved conduit, which presents inherent challenges due to the need for anticoagulation. The Ozaki procedure, which uses pericardium for aortic valve neocuspidization, is an alternative to prosthetic valves and does not need anticoagulation. We developed a surgical technique combining the Bentall and Ozaki procedures to treat patients with aortic root disease, which we describe in this article. Because the risk of bleeding due to anticoagulation after prosthetic valve replacement was a concern, we combined the Bentall and Ozaki procedures with a graft conduit using bovine pericardial patch neocuspidization. Postoperative echocardiography showed a competent aortic valve with no regurgitation. We believe that this novel procedure provides hope for a more adaptable and patient-friendly option.

To investigate the safety of pancreatic body suspension (PBS) technique in laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization for patients. A retrospective study inclusive of 16 patients who underwent laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial devascularization from 2017 to 2022 was performed. A total of 5 patients underwent PBS technique and 11 underwent the traditional technique. There was no significant difference in age, sex, body mass index (BMI), preoperative serum white cell count (WBC), platelets (PLT), hemoglobin (HB), albumin (ALB), prothrombin time (PT), total bilirubin (TBIL), or spleen size between the 2 groups (Pâ >â .05). In the PBS group, the operation time was 280 minutes. The estimated intraoperative blood loss (EBL) was 250 mL. The mean postoperative hospitalization length was 11.2 days. There was no conversion to an open procedure or postoperative bleeding. In the traditional method group, the mean operation time was 240.91 minutes. The EBL was 290.91 mL. There were 2 cases of conversion to open, 3 cases of postoperative bleeding, and 1 reoperation. The incidence of postoperative short-term complications (postoperative bleeding, reoperation) was significantly higher in the traditional method group than in the PBS group (36.36% vs 0%, Pâ =â .034). PBS technique improved the safety of laparoscopic splenectomy combined with pericardial dissection and is worthy of clinical promotion.

PURPOSE: Aortic valve neocuspidization (AVNeo) is a relatively recent advancement in surgical AV replacement. Data on its performance beyond the short term are limited. We assessed the mid-term outcomes in patients undergoing AVNeo, focusing on feasibility, perioperative details, and its role in AV pathology treatment. METHODS: Sixty-five consecutive patients underwent AVNeo between December 2016 and February 2018. Clinical data were prospectively collected and retrospectively analyzed. Tricuspid reconstruction with autologous pericardium was performed in all cases. Echocardiographic follow-up was conducted post-discharge, at 6 and 12 months, and annually thereafter. RESULTS: The mean age was 62.6 ± 18.7 years. AVNeo was feasible in all cases. Concomitant procedures were performed in 43 (66.2%) patients. Mean bypass and cross-clamp times were 119.2 ± 30.3 and 87.1 ± 22.9 minutes, respectively. Postoperative transvalvular hemodynamics was excellent. There was one (1.5%) in-hospital death. Follow-up (mean 66.72 ± 12.77 months) was complete in 58 patients (89.2%). There were no detected valve-related or thromboembolic events. Transvalvular hemodynamic parameters were stable during the observation period: peak pressure gradient at discharge and follow-up was 15.3 ± 4.6 mmHg and 15.01 ± 6.3 mmHg, respectively (ρ = 0.346). CONCLUSIONS: AVNeo demonstrated the feasibility and favorable mid-term outcomes. Studies with longer-term observation are warranted to evaluate its durability.

BACKGROUND: The current study presents a novel and precise surgical technique for complete reconstruction of the aortic valve using glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium in a patient with aortic valve disease and endocarditis. The technique aims to provide a more effective and reproducible method for aortic valve repair, with the goal of improving outcomes and quality of life for patients with aortic valve disease. CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old Iranian male with aortic valve disease and endocarditis underwent aortic valve reconstruction surgery. Preoperative echocardiography showed a degenerative aortic valve with severe regurgitation, reduced left ventricular ejection fraction, and specific aortic root dimensions. The surgical technique involved precise measurements and calculations to design the size and shape of the new aortic valve cusps using autologous pericardium, with the goal of optimizing coaptation and function. The surgeon calculated the intercommissural distance based on the aortic annulus diameter to determine cusp size and shape. He tailored the pericardial cusps to have a height equal to 80% of the coaptation margin length. Detailed suturing techniques were used to ensure proper alignment and coaptation of the new cusps. Intraoperative evaluation of the valve function using suction and transesophageal echocardiography showed good coaptation and minimal residual regurgitation. At the 3-year follow-up, the patient had a well-functioning aortic valve with only trivial leak and was in satisfactory clinical condition. CONCLUSIONS: Glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium is a validated leaflet alternative, and the causes of its failure are late annular dilatation and other technique breakdowns. Current evidence reveals that aortic valve reconstruction with glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium is associated with many advantages with the potential to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Further clinical studies are warranted to evaluate the long-term durability and efficacy of this approach.

Breast reconstructive surgery has evolved significantly over the years. One of the recent advancements is the use of prepectoral implants in combination with synthetic and biological material as a natural and effective coverage. To date, there is little published data on breast reconstruction using acellular bovine pericardium matrix and most concern submuscular breast reconstruction. This study aimed to describe the multicentric-multisurgeon experience in performing direct to implant (DTI) prepectoral breast reconstructions using acellular bovine pericardium matrix (ABPM) pocket. A retrospective multicentric data collection of the all the immediate prepectoral breast reconstructions using acellular bovine pericardium was carried out by the authors. Surgical data including type of mastectomy, axillary surgery, type and size of implant, size of ABPM, duration of surgery were collected for each patient. Postoperative data including adjuvant treatments, complications, necessity to perform other interventions, patient's satisfaction were collected. Cosmetic results were also evaluated by 7 different observers at minimum 1 year follow-up. A total of 65 breast reconstruction were included in the study. Mean follow up was 21.3 months. Average surgical time was 1,42 hours. Minor complications occurred in 4 breasts; major complications occurred in 2 breasts. After 6 months follow-up, 7 patients underwent fat grafting to correct any rippling and /or wrinkling. Breast aesthetic and patients reported outcomes were satisfactory. Not significant capsular contracture was noted at the follow up control. To date, this is the largest study about prepectoral breast reconstruction with ABPM. On the basis of our results, prepectoral breast reconstruction ABPM assisted is a reliable, safe and suitable option providing good patient satisfaction outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Biofilm formation is one of the greatest challenges encountered in vascular graft infections. Our aim is to compare the efficacy of 5 antibiotics against methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) biofilms on the surface of 4 vascular grafts. METHODS: In vitro study of 2 clinical MSSA strains (MSSA2 and MSSA6) and 4 vascular grafts (Dacron, Dacron-silver-triclosan (DST), Omniflow-II, and bovine pericardium). After a 24-hr incubation period, the graft samples were divided into 6 groups: growth control (no treatment), ciprofloxacin 4.5 mg/L, cloxacillin 100 mg/L, dalbavancin 300 mg/L, daptomycin 140 mg/L, and linezolid 20 mg/L. Quantitative cultures were obtained and results expressed as log10 colony-forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL). Analysis of variance was performed to compare biofilm formation between the different groups. RESULTS: The mean ± standard deviation MSSA2 count on the growth control Dacron graft was 10.05 ± 0.31 CFU/mL. Antibiotic treatment achieved a mean reduction of 45%; ciprofloxacin was the most effective antibiotic (64%). Baseline MSSA2 counts were very low on the DST (0.50 ± 1.03 CFU/mL) and Omniflow-II (0.33 ± 0.78 CFU/mL) grafts. On the bovine pericardium patch, the count was 9.87 ± 0.50 CFU/mL, but this was reduced by a mean of 45% after antibiotic treatment (61% for ciprofloxacin). The mean MSSA6 count on the growth control Dacron graft was 9.63 ± 0.53 CFU/mL. Antibiotics achieved a mean reduction of 48%, with ciprofloxacin performing best (67% reduction). The baseline MSSA6 count on the DST graft was 8.54 ± 0.73 CFU/mL. Antibiotics reduced biofilm formation by 72%; cloxacillin was the most effective treatment (86%). The MSSA6 count on the untreated Omniflow-II graft was 1.17 ± 1.52 CFU/mL. For the bovine pericardium patch, it was 8.98 ± 0.67 CFU/mL. The mean reduction after antibiotic treatment was 46%, with cloxacillin achieving the greatest reduction (68%). CONCLUSIONS: In this in vitro study, ciprofloxacin and cloxacillin performed best at reducing biofilms formed by clinical MSSA strains on the surface of biological and synthetic vascular grafts.

The Gore-Tex® polytetrafluoroethylene patch is one of the most used prostheses for diaphragm, vessel, and pericardial reconstruction. It is strong, flexible, and relatively inexpensive and can be fitted to match the size of the resected area. In addition, it can be used to reconstruct the pericardium and diaphragm following resection to treat diffuse malignant pleural mesothelioma or repair large hiatal hernias. However, the use of polytetrafluoroethylene for hepatocellular carcinoma with diaphragmatic and pericardial invasion has not yet been reported. We report the case of a 72-year-old man with hepatocellular carcinoma with diaphragmatic and pericardial invasion. Subsequently, laparotomic liver subsegmentectomy of segment 3 and resection of the diaphragm and pericardium were performed. The defects were successfully reconstructed using the polytetrafluoroethylene patch, without postoperative complications. This is the first report describing a case of invasive liver malignancy that required simultaneous diaphragmatic and pericardial reconstruction using a polytetrafluoroethylene patch, indicating that the polytetrafluoroethylene patch could effectively and directly treat invasive liver malignancies.

We report on the "Triple-FP technique," a novel surgical approach for secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces, which combines a free pericardial fat pad, fibrin glue, and polyglycolic acid sheets. In our experience with 13 patients suffering from secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces, this method effectively prevented postoperative air leaks and re-operations. The technique includes the following steps: (1) harvesting free pericardial fat; (2) suturing around the lung parenchymal defect with the needles and thread left outside the thoracic cavity; (3) ensuring contact between the mediastinal pleural side of the fat and the lung; (4) applying fibrin glue to both the lung and fat before suturing; (5) securing the fat to the lung via the suture thread, reinforced with fibrin glue; and (6) stabilization with polyglycolic acid sheets and additional fibrin glue. This innovative technique is a reliable and effective treatment strategy for secondary spontaneous pneumothoraces, especially for patients with fragile lung tissue.

BACKGROUND: For acute type A aortic dissection involving the aortic root with root diameter no more than 45 mm, there are various aortic root repair techniques. In this study, a novel surgical technique using a pericardial autograft for aortic root repair was introduced. We described its surgical steps in detail and compare its clinical outcomes with direct suture technique. METHODS: Between July 2017 and August 2022, 95 patients with acute type A aortic dissection who underwent aortic root repair were enrolled, including aortic root repair using pericardial autograft (group A, n = 49) or direct suture (group B, n = 46). The patient's clinical data were retrospectively analyzed, and a 5-year follow-up was conducted. RESULTS: The 30-day mortality, re-exploration for bleeding, postoperative new-onset renal failure requiring continuous renal replacement therapy, stroke, and paraplegia occurred in 3%, 4%, 11%, 5%, and 2% of the overall patients, respectively. There was no significant difference in the 30-day mortality and complication rate between the two groups. The 30-day mortality and re-exploration for bleeding marked the primary endpoint events. Logistic regression analysis indicated that there was a significant correlation between the primary endpoint events and surgical technique (odds ratio, 0.002; 95% confidence interval, 0-0.159; P = 0.026). The aortic valve insufficiency of the two groups were significantly improved after operation (group A, P < 0.001; group B, P < 0.001). During follow-up, there was no significant difference in short-term survival between the two groups after surgery (log-rank P = 0.75), and all patients were free from reoperation for aortic disease. CONCLUSIONS: Patients who underwent aortic root repair using pericardial autograft tended to have reduced 30-day mortality and a lower risk of re-exploration for bleeding. Using pericardial autograft for aortic root repair is a safe and useful approach for patients with acute type A aortic dissection involving the aortic root.

Xenografts, commonly from porcine or bovine sources, have decades-long documented use in reconstructive surgery, including the repair of Achilles tendons. Despite decellularization processes, the risk of antigenicity with xenografts still poses a threat for graft failure. Allograft tissues reduce the risk of immune response and provide greater likelihood of successful grafting. SteriGraft® Pericardium (BSP) (Bone Bank Allografts, San Antonio, Texas) is a lyophilized allograft obtained from the pericardial sac that has undergone sterilization and processing for use in the surgical repair. The aim of this case study was to highlight the novel use of human pericardium allograft in the repair of an exposed Achilles tendon within a vascular ulceration with the concomitant use of synthetic extracellular matrix, amniotic allografting, dermal allografting, and negative pressure wound therapy to achieve healing of the wound and restoration of limb function.

A 62-year-old woman who had undergone mitral valve replacement 24 years ago was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure. She needed heart transplantation for stage D heart failure. Preoperative cardiac computed tomographic scans showed a severely calcified left atrium and a large right atrium. Given that the left atrium's calcification was too severe to suture, the calcified left atrial wall was broadly resected, and the resected left atrial wall was reconstructed with a bovine pericardial patch for anastomosis with the donor's left atrial wall. The operation was completed without heavy bleeding, and the patient was discharged from the hospital with no complications.

Aortic root reconstruction during aortic root replacement for a patient with prosthetic valve endocarditis and aortic root abscess can be a difficult procedure with many possible complications. In this video case report, we describe our novel technique using a single bovine pericardial patch that avoids deep stitches or external sutures to support the friable annulus. Compared with more standard methods, this approach has shorter cross-clamp and cardiopulmonary bypass times and is less demanding technically.

In a 39-year-old male with mitral valve endocarditis, after 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics, echocardiography confirmed multiple vegetations on both leaflets, a flail posterior leaflet flail and contained perforation of the anterior leaflet in a windsock-like morphology. All vegetations, diseased and ruptured chords and the windsock-like contained rupture of the anterior leaflet were carefully resected via a right minithoracotomy and with femoral cannulation. Three repair techniques were blended to reconstruct the valve: (1) A large, infected portion of the prolapsing posterior leaflet was resected in a triangular fashion, and the edges were re-approximated using continuous 5-0 polypropylene sutures. (2) The anterior leaflet defect was repaired with a circular autologous pericardial patch that had been soaked in glutaraldehyde. (3) A set of artificial chords for P2 was created using CV-4 polytetrafluoroethylene sutures and adjusted under repeated saline inflation. A 38-mm Edwards Physio-I annuloplasty ring was implanted. The artificial chords were adjusted again after annuloplasty and then tied. Transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) confirmed the absence of residual mitral regurgitation and systolic anterior motion and a mean pressure gradient of 3 mmHg. The patient was discharged after 5 days with a peripherally inserted central catheter to complete an additional 4 weeks of intravenous antibiotics and had an uneventful recovery.

An 82-year-old male patient underwent a left upper lobectomy with anterolateral thoracotomy for lung cancer. Although a complete left-pericardial defect was observed during surgery, the pericardial repair was not performed because the left lower lobe remained and the heart was considered stable. Postoperative pathological examination revealed primary synchronous double-lung squamous-cell carcinoma (pathological stage pT2a(2)N0M0 stage IB). He was discharged without complications on postoperative day 8. Leftward displacement of the heart and left diaphragmatic elevation, suspected of phrenic-nerve paralysis, were found in the chest X-ray after discharge. However, the patient's overall condition remained unaffected at the 5-month postoperative follow-up. To assess the need for pericardial repair, we compared cases of complete pericardial defects observed during lobectomy or pneumonectomy reported in the literature. Only one of 12 cases occurred postoperative death despite pericardial repair, and that case combined pectus excavatum and pericardial defects. Our assessment indicated that pericardial repair might not be necessary, excluding complex cases.

BACKGROUND: Valvular heart diseases (VHDs) have become prevalent in populations due to aging. Application of different biomaterials for cardiac valve regeneration and repair holds a great promise for treatment of VHD. Aortic valve replacement using tissue-engineered xenografts is a considered approach, and the pericardium of different species such as porcine and bovine has been studied over the last few years. It has been suggested that the animal origin can affect the outcomes of replacement. METHODS: So, herein, we at first decellularized and characterized the camel pericardium (dCP), then characterized dCP with H&E staining, in vitro and in vivo biocompatibility and mechanical tests and compared it with decellularized bovine pericardium (dBP), to describe the potency of dCP as a new xenograft and bio scaffold. RESULTS: The histological assays indicated less decluttering and extracellular matrix damage in dCP after decellularization compared to the dBP also dCP had higher Young Modulus (105.11), and yield stress (1.57 ± 0.45). We observed more blood vessels and also less inflammatory cells in the dCP sections after implantation. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the results of this study showed that the dCP has good capabilities not only for use in VHD treatment but also for other applications in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.

BACKGROUND: Debate continues regarding the superiority of porcine vs pericardial bioprostheses, and data relevant to this comparison are scant. This study compared late survival and structural valve deterioration of porcine and pericardial mitral valve prostheses. METHODS: Adults undergoing mitral valve replacement with 1 first-generation porcine valve model and 1 pericardial valve line were reviewed from a prospectively maintained institutional database between 1976 and 2020. Multivariable regression and Cox proportional hazards analysis were used to compare late outcomes. RESULTS: Of 1162 consecutive patients, 612 (53%) received porcine valves and 550 (47%) received pericardial valves. At 10 years, patient survival (porcine, 36% ± 2%; pericardial, 38% ± 3%; P = .5) and cumulative incidence of mitral valve structural deterioration (porcine, 18% ± 2%; pericardial, 19% ± 3%; P = .3) were similar. The structural failure mode was more likely severe mitral stenosis in pericardial valves (35 of 50 [70%] vs 38 of 106 [36%]; P < .001), and it was more likely severe mitral regurgitation in porcine valves (80 of 106 [75%] vs 19 of 50 [38%]; P < .0001). After adjustment, structural deterioration was associated with younger patient age (P < .001) but not valve type. At 10 years, porcine valves demonstrated a higher cumulative incidence of mitral reoperation (19% ± 2% vs 9% ± 2%; P < .001) and reoperation for structural deterioration (15% ± 1% vs 6% ± 2%; P = .007). CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated similar rates of 10-year survival and structural deterioration with porcine and pericardial bioprostheses in mitral valve replacement. The study suggests a lack of major improvement in durability of mitral bioprosthetic valves over time. The failure mode may have a greater influence on surgeon decision making regarding valve choice.

BACKGROUND: The use of biological grafts provides acceptable mid- and long-term results in native or prosthetic vascular infections. Several reports describe the successful use of bovine pericardium in case of vascular infections, mainly as a large patch to be sutured as a tubular graft. Recently, a novel prefabricated bovine pericardium graft (Biointegral Surgical No-React® Inc, Mississauga, ON, Canada) has been introduced in clinical practice with promising results. In this study, we report our preliminary experience utilizing Biointegral Surgical graft in case of native and or prosthetic aorto-iliac and infrainguinal infection. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from 20 patients with native or prosthetic aorto-iliac and infrainguinal infection who underwent in situ reconstruction (ISR) with a Biointegral Surgical No-React bovine pericardium prosthesis between October 2020 and February 2023 at the Vascular Surgery Unit of the Fondazione Policlinico Universitario Gemelli - IRCCS in Rome, Italy. All patients followed a standardized protocol including postoperative anticoagulation and long-term intravenous antibiotics. RESULTS: The indication for surgery was: mycotic aortic aneurysm in 4 patients (20%), graft infection after abdominal aortic repair in 11 patients (55%), peripheral graft infection in 5 patients (25%). Complete excision of the infected aorta or prosthetic graft, surgical debridement and ISR were performed in all patients. Hospital mortality rate was 5% (n = 1) and graft-related mortality of 0%. During follow-up (median 13 months, range 6-34 months), reinfection was 5.2% and primary graft patency 94.7%. CONCLUSIONS: The use of prefabricated bovine pericardial grafts represents a promising option for the treatment of native and prosthetic aorto-iliac and infrainguinal infections. The application of this biological graft with a standardized postoperative protocol has been associated with a satisfactory patency and reinfection rate without increased bleeding complications.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the changes in thickness of tissues, specifically the pericardium patch graft (PPG) covering the silicone tube in Ahmed Glaucoma Valve (AGV) surgery. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective observational study. METHODS: This study included cases with refractory glaucoma that underwent AGV implantation with PPG coverage. Conjunctival epithelium, stroma and PPG thickness covering the tube were measured using anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) at 1, 6 and 12 months. Additionally, the same measurements were taken 1500 µm away from the tube as a control for the central measurements. RESULTS: Twenty-seven eyes of 27 patients were evaluated in the study. Although PPG thickness decreased significantly in both regions, the amount of reduction was more pronounced centrally. Centrally, the reduction rate was 21.2% and 34.8% during the 1-6 months period and 6-12 months period, while peripherally it was 3.5% and 5.1%, respectively. No change was observed in the thickness of the epithelium during the follow-up period. There was a significant thinning of the stroma in the central and peripheral regions during the 1-6 months period (30.5% and 17%, respectively). No cases of exposure were observed during the follow-up period. CONCLUSION: Although the most evident thinning of the layers covering the tube was observed in the early postoperative period, PPG showed a stable decrease even in the late period. The progressive reduction in the PPG thickness observed also in the peripheral region indicates that factors beyond mechanical forces contribute to this degenerative process. AS-OCT could be a valuable non-invasive tool in clarifying this process.

BACKGROUND: Aortic valve reconstruction using glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium, also called Ozaki procedure, is a surgical procedure for patients with aortic valve disease. Gratifying results have been reported in adult patients, however, limited published data is available in paediatric population. This study looked at clinical characteristics and early outcomes of children who underwent Ozaki procedure at our Institute. METHODS: This was a retrospective descriptive study conducted on children who underwent aortic valve reconstruction at Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) from January 2019 through December 2022. Medical records of these children were reviewed to extract data on demographics, clinical characteristics, redo surgical interventions and survival. RESULTS: A total of 10 children underwent Ozaki procedure during the study period. Eight children had severe aortic regurgitation while 2 had severe aortic stenosis preoperatively. All children had either none or trivial aortic regurgitation immediately after surgery. None of them had redone operations throughout the follow-up period. There was no in-hospital mortality, however, one child died one-year after surgery. The mean follow-up period was 1.6 years with the longest follow-up time of 4 years. CONCLUSION: Ozaki procedure showed encouraging early results among children with aortic valve disease who underwent surgical repair by this technique. Future studies with larger sample sizes and longer follow up periods to evaluate long-term results in this population are recommended.
