Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults, and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation, there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this population. Following the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation, a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing research. In this work, we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins, triggers of complement activation, and role of effector functions in the pathology. We study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris, and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular patterns. Several effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury, and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord injury. Following this pathophysiological review, we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human subjects. This review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury, to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins, and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

Rapid development realms of parallel architectures and its heterogeneity have inspired researchers to invent new scheduling strategies to efficiently distribute workloads among these architectures in a way that may lead to better performance. This paper presents a comprehensive study on optimizing resource utilization for large-scale problems by employing architecture-aware scheduling techniques. We conducted a series of experiments to measure the execution times of various architectures with different problem sizes. These experiments have been conducted multiple times to minimize measurement variance. The findings from these experiments are utilized to develop a scheduling strategy that enables faster completion of larger data-parallel problems while maximizing resource utilization. The proposed approach makes performance enhancement with 16.7% for large data size. It has a significant impact on enhancing computational efficiency and reducing costs in high-performance computing environments.

Congenital renal tumors are rare. In infancy, congenital mesoblastic nephroma is the most commonly reported renal tumor. It is recognized antenatally due to polyhydramnios and presents clinically as a palpable abdominal mass in the neonatal period. Although widely regarded as a benign tumor, radical nephrectomy is routinely adopted as an effective treatment. We report a case involving antenatal recognition of a large fetal renal mass with polyhydramnios at 35 weeks of gestation. At 37 weeks of gestation, the baby was delivered via emergency cesarean section due to fetal distress. After delivery, a magnetic resonance imaging scan confirmed a solid mass in the left kidney, and a left radical nephrectomy was performed in the second week of life. The subsequent pathological examination confirmed a mixed (cellular and classical) variant of congenital mesoblastic nephroma.

Recent advancements in research have significantly enhanced our comprehension of the intricate immune components that contribute to multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis. By conducting an in-depth analysis of complex molecular interactions involved in the immunological cascade of the disease, researchers have successfully identified novel therapeutic targets, leading to the development of innovative therapies. Leveraging pioneering technologies in proteomics, genomics, and the assessment of environmental factors has expedited our understanding of the vulnerability and impact of these factors on the progression of MS. Furthermore, these advances have facilitated the detection of significant biomarkers for evaluating disease activity. By integrating these findings, researchers can design novel molecules to identify new targets, paving the way for improved treatments and enhanced patient care. Our review presents recent discoveries regarding the pathogenesis of MS, highlights their genetic implications, and proposes an insightful approach for engaging with newer therapeutic targets in effectively managing this debilitating condition.

Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) is a highly sensitive analytical technique used for fingerprint recognition of molecular samples. The SERS effect, which enhances Raman scattering signals, has been the subject of extensive research over the past few decades. More recently, the commercialization of portable Raman spectrometers has brought SERS closer to real-world applications. The aim of the study was to enhance their performance, properties, and biocompatibility for potential use as SERS substrates. The synthesis and characterization of MoS2 and SnS2 nanoparticles are described, along with the functionalization process using l-cysteine. The detection and identification of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria using MoS2 and SnS2 as SERS substrates are also investigated. The results demonstrate the successful functionalization and characterization of the nanostructures, indicating their potential as SERS substrates. The abstract highlights the importance of developing cost-effective and environmentally friendly disposable analysis chips with high accuracy and specificity for practical SERS applications.

Identifying the baseline status and the timing of ecosystem disturbances are essential for restoration programs. The historical bioaccumulation of heavy metals was assessed from an 80-cm-long core from the Manzala Lagoon (Nile Delta). The heavy metal concentrations increased slightly upward and peaked around 1964, after the completion of Aswan High Dam. The metal concentrations of shells are 2-3 times less than those of bulk sediment. The topmost sediments are enriched in Cd, Cu, and Pb above USEPA. Sediment type and sediment grain size have a minor effect on the heavy metal concentration in mollusk shells, suggesting a priority over bulk sediments. Although correlated, the shells of the grazer gastropod Melanoides tuberculata have the highest concentration of all metals relative to the suspension-feeder bivalves Cerastoderma glaucum and Saccostrea cuculata. This was attributed to the influences of the eco-physiological traits, which exert a similar influence on the bioaccumulation process of all metals.

Background: There is a lack of consensus on the optimal antibiotic regimen for pediatric appendicitis, and conflicting data exist regarding the need for extended-spectrum use in this population. We implemented an antibiotic stewardship program with a standard, preferred antibiotic regimen for both uncomplicated and complicated appendicitis and hypothesized that clinical outcomes would be equivalent. Methods: This is a single-institution, retrospective study of pediatric patients (≤18 y) who underwent appendectomy for acute appendicitis between October 2015 and May 2022. We used institutional data from our stewardship program supplemented by manual chart review. Patients were assigned to pre- and post-pathway cohorts on the basis of appendectomy date. Patients were further stratified on the basis of whether they met criteria for complicated appendicitis on the basis of intra-operative findings. Results: There were 752 patients that were included: 346 (46.0%) in the pre-pathway cohort and 406 (54.0%) in the post-pathway cohort. The pre-pathway cohort had a higher rate of complicated appendicitis (40.2 vs. 25.6%). However, pre- and post-pathway cohorts had similar rates of post-operative infections, readmissions, and reoperations. When separated by complicated operative findings, patients with uncomplicated appendicitis had a shorter length of stay post-pathway implementation (p < 0.001). After controlling for complicated operative findings and pertinent covariates, the preferred antibiotic regimen was independently associated with decreased odds of post-operative organ space surgical site infections (SSI) (adjusted odds ratio 0.22, 95% CI: 0.05-0.99). Discussion: Antibiotic stewardship to increase the use of a standardized, preferred antibiotic regimen did not result in worse clinical outcomes. The preferred regimen was significantly associated with a decreased rate of organ space SSI, even when controlling for complicated operative findings. The mechanism of this finding requires additional study.

Background Patients' long length of stay (LOS) in the emergency department (ED) is a common measure of quality of care that could be a cause of increased morbidity and mortality. This quality improvement project (QIP) aimed to identify causes of long LOS and to improve common causes such as long consultation times. Methodology Over two months, three plan, do, study, and act (PDSA) cycles were conducted aiming to identify causes of long ED LOS and improve common causes that extended ED LOS beyond four hours. Additionally, the project aimed to reduce the time taken from requesting a consultation from another specialty until it was completed and documented to an average of 60 minutes. Main interventions included raising awareness of staff and administration through video presentations, printed posters, direct contact, and optimizing the electronic health records system to audit performance. Results From PDSA cycle 1 through PDSA cycle 3, average consultation times decreased from 91 to 65 minutes. Common organization-related causes of long LOS included pending radiology or laboratory investigations, awaiting inpatient admission, and awaiting consultations from other specialties. Physician-related factors included delay in documentation likely resulting from heavy workload. Pending investigations and admissions were factors that could be amended with better administrative control. Conclusions A multifaceted approach that tackles physician-related and organization-related factors could be a necessity to improve LOS and the quality of care in the ED. Having staff and administration aware of targets and performance along with utilizing the electronic health records system to audit performance and increase efficiency are beneficial in improving the LOS in the ED.

Background: The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has presented unprecedented stressors and difficulties for healthcare professionals. This study explored the prevalence of generalized anxiety disorders and burnout among radiology practitioners and interns in various hospitals in Saudi Arabia after the end of the COVID-19 global public health emergency. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 230 radiology practitioners and interns was conducted between October and November 2023. This study utilized the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey for Medical Personnel (MBI-HSS-MP) 22-item questionnaire, employing a non-probability convenience sampling method. The average scores of the individual components constituting the GAD-7 scale and each burnout scale were calculated, and statistical analyses were conducted using the Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H nonparametric tests. Results: Of 382 radiology practitioners and interns, 230 (60.2%) responded to the survey. Notably, 42.6% of the participants reported experiencing GAD. Regarding burnout, 82.3% were at moderate-to-high risk for emotional exhaustion, 93.5% for depersonalization, and 52.1% for personal achievement. The 31-40 years age group showed significantly higher burnout rates (p = 0.001) compared with the other age groups. Those with more than three years of experience had notably higher emotional exhaustion scores (p = 0.002) and a nearly significant increase in depersonalization scores (p = 0.051) than those with less experience. Discussion: Our study revealed that 42.6% of radiology practitioners and interns experienced GAD, with the majority facing significant burnout. Furthermore, our research indicates a decline in GAD levels among radiology practitioners and interns compared with the peak COVID-19 pandemic period. It also showed a significant increase in both the incidence and severity of burnout, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in a comparable cohort. These findings emphasize the pressing challenges of GAD and burnout among healthcare workers, especially radiology professionals.

Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.) is a North American grass species with biofuel potential. Claviceps spp. is known to infect the florets of various grass species, initially characterized by a sticky honeydew exudate and later as sclerotium replacing the seed in the infected ovary (Tanaka et al 2023). Since 2019, from July to October, switchgrass panicles in Georgia have been observed with honeydew and black sclerotia. The disease was first noted on some of the 285 accessions of the genome-wide association study (GWAS) panels at the University of Georgia's Iron Horse Farm in Watkinsville and Gibbs Farm in Tifton, GA. In Watkinsville, GA, ergot incidence was 5%, 6%, 65% and 54% in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, respectively. Symptomatic panicles with honeydew and sclerotia were collected in 2021 (sample Scl) and 2023 (samples Cla_M and ATH20cl) from Watkinsville, GA. Under microcopy, panicles with honeydew symptoms had mycelium and conidia (9 µm long [range of 5-13 µm] and 4 µm wide [3-5 µm]) consistent with Claviceps spp. (Tooley et al. 2001). Sclerotia were 1.5 mm long (range 1-3 mm). Sclerotia were surface sterilized for 3 minutes in 5% NaOCl, followed by 70% ethanol then rinsed three times in distilled water. Sterilized sclerotia were plated on potato dextrose agar and placed on bench top with a 12-hour day/night cycle at room temperature (22°C) (Singh 1976). After 2 months, the sclerotia produced sterile apothecia. For molecular identification, genomic DNA was extracted from three honeydew samples following the protocol of Doyle and Doyle (1987). The internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and RNA polymerase second largest subunit (RPB2) gene were amplified using ITS4/ITS5 (White et al. 1990) and 5F2/7CR (Liu et al. 1999) primer sets. The ITS region of ATH20cl, Cla_M, and Scl (GenBank nos. PP546317- PP546319) showed 92.83-97.48% identity to C. clavispora (NR_163506.1). The RPB2 region of ATH20cl, Cla_M, and Scl (GenBank nos. PP573916- PP573918) showed 97.46-97.72% identity to C. clavispora (LT216566.1). The maximum likelihood tree constructed in MEGA-X (Kumar et al. 2018) using concatenated ITS (539 bp) and RPB2 (792 bp) gene sequences from this study and eleven reference sequences from Tanaka et al. (2023), revealed close relatedness of ATH20cl, Cla_M, and Scl to C. clavispora under section Pusillae. The pathogenicity test for samples ATH20cl and Cla_M was conducted in the greenhouse on switchgrass cultivar 'Alamo' grown in injection molded pots containing Sungro professional growing mix. Three replicates plants at reproductive (R3) growth stage were inoculated by immersing panicles in 105 spores/ml suspension for 5 minutes and bagged for 3 days (Tooley et al. 2001). Control plants were immersed in distilled water. Honeydew symptoms and sclerotia appeared within 7- and 90-days post-inoculation, respectively, whereas control plants remained symptom-free. The honeydew collected from the infected Alamo panicles were reconfirmed to produce similar spores to those collected from the field. This is the first report of ergot caused by C. clavispora in switchgrass. Ergot was also observed since 2019 on some accessions from the same GWAS panel planted at the University of Tennessee Plant Sciences Farm in Knoxville, TN. This information will be beneficial to determine the effect of ergot on biomass production and seed quality of switchgrass in the southeastern U.S.

OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aim to estimate the risk of developing clinical multidrug-resistant organism (MDRO) infection with carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), or vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) in colonized patients compared with non-colonized admitted to high-risk areas with a main focus on CRE colonization/infection. DESIGN AND SETTING: Retrospective cohort study conducted at a tertiary care facility. METHODS: This study included patients enrolled in active surveillance testing (AST) for CRE, MRSA, or VRE during the year 2021. Development of relevant invasive infection within 365 days of the AST result was collected as the primary outcome. The association between MDRO colonization and infection was calculated using the risk ratio. The prevalence of CRE organisms and carbapenemase genes is presented. RESULTS: A total of 19,134 ASTs were included in the analysis (4,919 CRE AST, 8,303 MRSA AST, and 5,912 VRE AST). Patient demographics were similar between colonized and non-colonized groups. Colonization was associated with an increased risk of infection in the 3 cohorts (CRE, MRSA, and VRE), with risk ratios reported as 4.6, 8.2, and 22, respectively. Most patients (88%) develop CRE infection with the same colonizing carbapenemase gene. Oxa-48/NDM Klebsiella pneumoniae was the most common organism detected in CRE infection. CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrated that colonization with CRE, MRSA, or VRE is a risk factor for developing infections caused by the respective bacteria. The high percentage of match between carbapenemase genes detected in colonization and infection indicates that screening results might be used to inform infection management and treatment.

BACKGROUND/ AIM: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disease affecting upper and lower motor neurons, causing progressive atrophy of muscles, hypertonia, and paralysis. This study aimed to evaluate the current evidence and effectiveness of ultrasound in investigating nerve cross-sectional area (CSA) of peripheral nerves, vagus and cervical roots in those with ALS compared with healthy controls and to pool the CSA measurements. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted on Cochrane, Clarivate Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, and Embase for the mesh terms nerve, ultrasonography, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A quality assessment was performed using the New-Ottawa scale. In addition, a double-arm meta-analysis using Review Manager 5 software version 5.4 was performed. RESULTS: From the seventeen studies included in this review, the overall mean difference showed that individuals with ALS had a significantly smaller CSA in comparison to healthy controls for median, ulnar, C6 root, and phrenic nerves. However, no significant difference in the CSA was found in radial, vagal, sural, and tibial nerves. DISCUSSION: This study confirmed results of some of the included studies regards the anatomic sites, where nerve atrophy in ALS could be detected to potentially support the diagnosis of ALS. However, we recommend further large, prospective studies to assess the diagnostic value of these anatomical sites for the diagnosis of ALS. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings confirmed specific anatomic sites to differentiate ALS patients from healthy controls through ultrasound. However, these findings cannot be used to confirm the ALS diagnosis, but rather assist in differentiating it from other diagnoses. Background Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a common musculoskeletal condition of the hand and wrist frequently associated with repetitive hand motion and environmental considerations. Teachers are more likely to acquire CTS because of their lengthy writing and computer use. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of CTS symptoms and related variables among schoolteachers in Jazan, Saudi Arabia. Methods This study was conducted as a cross-sectional survey of teachers in Jazan, utilizing an online platform for data collection. The Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTQ) was the primary tool used to determine symptom intensity and functional status. The data were rigorously analyzed using a range of statistical methods, including descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, the Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman's correlation, the chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and binary logistic regression, ensuring the robustness of the findings. Results The study comprised 336 schoolteachers with a mean age of 43.3 ± 6.5 years, of whom 58.0% were female and 42.0% were male. About 8.0% of instructors reported CTS symptoms. Female gender (median Symptom Severity Scale (SSS): 15.0 vs. 12.0, p < 0.001; median Functional Status Scale (FSS): 8.0 vs. 8.0, p < 0.001), increased time spent writing (r = 0.237, p < 0.001 for SSS; r = 0.217, p < 0.001 for FSS), and presence of comorbidities such as diabetes (median SSS: 16.0, p = 0.002; median FSS: 8.0, p = 0.001) had a negative correlation with symptom severity (r = -0.174, p = 0.002) and functional impairment (r = -0.141, p = 0.011). Surgical therapy (median SSS: 32.0; median FSS: 24.0; p<0.001) and post-treatment symptom recurrence (median SSS: 28.0; median FSS: 22.0; p<0.001) were associated with increased severity and disability. According to binary logistic regression, increased writing time significantly predicted CTS diagnosis (OR = 1.151, 95% CI: 1.024-1.295, p = 0.018). Conclusion CTS symptoms are common among Jazan teachers, and various sociodemographic, vocational, and clinical variables influence their intensity and functional status. Ergonomic treatment, early identification, and suitable management measures are critical for preventing and mitigating the effects of CTS among teachers. Additional research is required to develop focused therapies and enhance the results of this occupational group.

Background Interventional radiology (IR) utilizes minimally invasive procedures guided by imaging to diagnose and treat various conditions, offering less invasive alternatives to traditional surgery. Despite its importance, awareness among family medicine practitioners can vary, affecting patient care. While IR has advanced in Saudi Arabia, there are limited data on family medicine practitioners' understanding of IR. This study assesses awareness of IR procedures among family medicine doctors in Jazan and their perceived need for further education. Methods A cross-sectional interview-administered survey was conducted online among family medicine doctors in Jazan via social media. The survey assessed demographic data, awareness of IR procedures, self-rated knowledge, and attitudes towards IR. Participants' understanding of IR training, hospital privileges, outpatient clinics, and recognition by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) was evaluated. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi-square tests. Results Out of 395 respondents, the age distribution was as follows: 20-29 years (44.3%), 30-39 years (32.9%), and 40 years or older (22.8%). Gender distribution was as follows: females (44.6%) and males (55.4%). Specialties included family medicine consultants (10.6%), residents (32.4%), specialists (22.8%), and general practitioners (34.2%). Awareness of IR procedures varied: uterine fibroid embolization (58.7%), coronary angiography (57.5%), vascular angioplasty (63.5%), radiofrequency ablation (61.3%), peripheral vascular bypass (61.8%), brain biopsy (56.2%), nephrostomy tube placement (59.5%), varicose veins treatment (63.0%), and cystoscopic tumor resection (54.7%). Self-rated knowledge was as follows: poor (46.8%), adequate (27.1%), good (15.7%), and excellent (10.4%). Most believed that interventional radiologists' training was in radiology (62.8%), with fewer attributing it to vascular surgery (20.5%) or a combination (16.7%). Regarding privileges and facilities, 248 (62.8%) reported hospital admitting privileges for IRs, 251 (63.5%) reported outpatient clinics, and 45 (11.4%) were unsure about admitting privileges. SCHS recognition was confirmed by 267 (67.6%). Referrals to IRs were made by 283 (71.6%), and 260 (65.8%) would increase referrals with more knowledge. The perceived benefit of additional education was as follows: no benefit (48.4%), some benefit (30.6%), and significant benefit (21.0%). Conclusion The study reveals gaps in awareness and knowledge of IR among family medicine doctors in Jazan. While there is recognition of IR's value and a willingness to refer patients, variations in knowledge highlight the need for targeted educational interventions. Improving education on IR could enhance integration into patient care and optimize outcomes.

Pharmacoepidemiological studies provide important information on the safety and effectiveness of medications, but the validity of study findings can be threatened by residual bias. Ideally, biases would be minimized through appropriate study design and statistical analysis methods. However, residual biases can remain, for example, due to unmeasured confounders, measurement error, or selection into the study. A group of sensitivity analysis methods, termed quantitative bias analyses, are available to assess, quantitatively and transparently, the robustness of study results to these residual biases. These approaches include methods to quantify how the estimated effect would be altered under specified assumptions about the potential bias, and methods to calculate bounds on effect estimates. This article introduces quantitative bias analyses for unmeasured confounding, misclassification, and selection bias, with a focus on their relevance and application to pharmacoepidemiological studies.

The most prevalent form of primary liver cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) poses a significant global health challenge due to its limited therapeutic options. Researchers are currently focused on the complex molecular landscape that governs the initiation and progression of HCC in order to identify new avenues for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. In the context of HCC, the Kinesin Superfamily Proteins (KIFs) have become critical regulators of cellular processes, prompting a growing interest in their function among the diverse array of molecular actors implicated in cancer. The KIFs, a family of microtubule-based molecular motors, are renowned for their essential roles in the dynamics of mitotic spindles and intracellular transport. Beyond their well-established functions in normal cellular physiology, emerging evidence indicates that dysregulation of KIFs significantly contributes to the pathogenesis of HCC. Novel therapeutic targets and diagnostic markers are revealed through the unique opportunity to comprehend the complex interplay between KIFs and the molecular events that drive HCC.

Infertility affects a significant number of humans. A supported reproduction technology was verified to ease infertility problems. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is one of the best choices, and its success relies on the preference for a higher-quality embryo for transmission. These have been normally completed physically by testing embryos in a microscope. The traditional morphological calculation of embryos shows predictable disadvantages, including effort- and time-consuming and expected risks of bias related to individual estimations completed by specific embryologists. Different computer vision (CV) and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques and devices have been recently applied in fertility hospitals to improve efficacy. AI addresses the imitation of intellectual performance and the capability of technologies to simulate cognitive learning, thinking, and problem-solving typically related to humans. Deep learning (DL) and machine learning (ML) are advanced AI algorithms in various fields and are considered the main algorithms for future human assistant technology. This study presents an Embryo Development and Morphology Using a Computer Vision-Aided Swin Transformer with a Boosted Dipper-Throated Optimization (EDMCV-STBDTO) technique. The EDMCV-STBDTO technique aims to accurately and efficiently detect embryo development, which is critical for improving fertility treatments and advancing developmental biology using medical CV techniques. Primarily, the EDMCV-STBDTO method performs image preprocessing using a bilateral filter (BF) model to remove the noise. Next, the swin transformer method is implemented for the feature extraction technique. The EDMCV-STBDTO model employs the variational autoencoder (VAE) method to classify human embryo development. Finally, the hyperparameter selection of the VAE method is implemented using the boosted dipper-throated optimization (BDTO) technique. The efficiency of the EDMCV-STBDTO method is validated by comprehensive studies using a benchmark dataset. The experimental result shows that the EDMCV-STBDTO method performs better than the recent techniques.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Job satisfaction is crucial for healthcare professionals, and understanding its influencing factors is essential for fostering a positive work environment, reducing turnover rates, and improving the overall quality of patient care. This systematic review examined the factors linked to nurse job satisfaction in psychiatric hospitals and diverse psychiatric settings, analyzing the findings through the lens of Herzberg's theory. Despite existing evidence, gaps remain in understanding the differences in factors affecting job satisfaction across various settings. METHODS: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive systematic review by searching six databases, namely PubMed, CINAHL, Cochrane Library, PsycINFO, Scopus, and APA PsycNet. Our search yielded an initial 567 studies published between January 2014 and February 2024, which were subsequently screened and evaluated based on predetermined inclusion criteria. Following this process, a total of 16 studies were deemed eligible for final analysis. Each of these selected studies underwent an independent review by two authors, utilizing the Joanna Briggs Institute checklist tool to ensure rigorous assessment. RESULTS: The findings revealed that interpersonal relationships, working conditions, and recognition were the most frequently reported factors associated with nurse job satisfaction, along with various extrinsic, intrinsic, personal, emotional, and psychosocial factors. Notably, psychiatric hospitals showed a mix of personal, extrinsic, intrinsic, and psychosocial factors influencing job satisfaction, with demographic factors being the most frequently examined. In contrast, diverse psychiatric settings focused more on external aspects impacting job satisfaction. CONCLUSIONS: The review highlights the importance of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors and suggests that future research should employ more robust methods and consider psychiatric hospitals and other mental health contexts. Herzberg's theory provides a valuable framework for understanding the factors associated with nurse job satisfaction.

We report passively Q-switched pulse operation through an erbium-doped fiber laser (EDFL) utilizing graphene oxide/titania (GO/TiO2) nanorods as a saturable absorber. The GO/TiO2 nanorods were fabricated using a Sol-gel-assisted hydrothermal method. The optical and physical characterization of the GO/TiO2 was then characterized using a field-emission-scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), and diffuses reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). To investigate the performance of the Q-switched EDFL based on the GO/TiO2 SA, the prepared nanorods were mechanically deposited on the fiber ferrule employing adhesion effects of in-dex-matching gel. This integration of the nanorod SA resulted in a self-starting Q-switching opera-tion initiated at a pump power of 17.5 mW and sustained up to 306.9 mW. When the pump range was tuned from 17.5 to 306.9 mW, the emission wavelength varied from 1564.2 to 1562.9 nm, pulse repetition rates increased from 13.87 kHz to 83.33 kHz, and pulse width decreased from 30.27 µs to 3.75 µs. Moreover, at the maximum pump power of 306.9 mW, the laser exhibited an average output power of 0.74 mW, a peak power of 1.54 mW, and a pulse energy of 8.88 nJ. Furthermore, this study investigates the GO/TiO2 damage threshold and prolonged stability of the proposed EDFL system.
