The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) has created emerging mental health challenges around the world. Like other countries, Pakistan is also confronted with covid-19 calamities. The aim of the study is to examine the impacts of workplace measures (WM) on the job performance (JP) and covid-19 fears (CF) along with the moderating role of academic competence (AC) based on the organizational support theory (OST) and job demand and resources (JDR) theory. A quantitative approach was applied to collect data from 333 banking employees in Gujranwala (Pakistan), and the hypothesis were tested via structural equation modeling using SPSS and AMOS. The study findings indicate that workplace measures significantly affect covid-19 fears except for individual preventive measures (IPM). Similarly, workplace measures significantly impact on job performance apart from information about the pandemic (IAP). Moreover, academic competence insignificantly moderates between workplace measures and covid-19 fears, but a significant moderation is found between information about pandemic (IAP) and covid-19 fears. Meanwhile, academic competence significantly moderates between workplace measures and job performance instead of a relationship between information about pandemic and job performance. However, this study was limited only to the banking sector of Pakistan. So, it will open the doors for future researchers to investigate other cultural contexts and sectors. This research gives a holistic understanding of workplace measures and contributes to the body of knowledge by enlightening the moderating role of academic competence in the banking sector of Pakistan. These useful insights would enable practitioners and policy makers to develop more efficient strategies and workplace measures to enhance job performance and reduce the fears of covid-19 among employees.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To compare specific life stressors and domestic abuse that pregnant women and others with epilepsy (WWE) experience compared with pregnant women and others without epilepsy (WWoE). METHODS: The Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) is an annual weighted survey of randomly sampled postpartum women administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We used data from the PRAMS from 2012 to 2020 in 13 states to assess the life stressors reported by WWE compared with WWoE. We adjusted the data for maternal age, race, ethnicity, marital status, education, and socioeconomic status (SES; using income, Women, Infants, and Children program [WIC], and Medicaid use). We also examined reported abuse in WWE compared with WWoE. RESULTS: This study included data from 64,951 postpartum women, representing 4,072,189 women through weighted sampling. Of these, 1,140 reported having a diagnosis of epilepsy in the 3 months before their pregnancies (representing 81,021 WWE). WWE experienced a higher number of stressors compared with WWoE. WWE were more likely to have experienced 9 of the 14 stressors asked in the PRAMS questionnaire: severe illness of a close family member, separation or divorce, homelessness, loss of a partner's job, cut in work hours or pay, arguing more than usual with their partner, serving jail time, substance abuse problem in a close contact, and death of a close contact. After adjusting for demographics (age, race, and SES), epilepsy was still associated with a higher number of stressors in pregnant women. Other factors associated with stressors were younger age, Indigenous or mixed race, non-Hispanic ethnicity, lower income, and WIC or Medicaid use. Those who were married were less likely to report stressors. WWE were also more likely to report abuse before or during their pregnancies. DISCUSSION: Although managing stress is important in both epilepsy and pregnancy, WWE experience more stressors than do WWoE. After adjusting for maternal age, race, and SES, this increase in stressors persisted. Women who were younger, with lower income, on WIC or Medicaid, or not married were also more likely to experience life stressors. Alarmingly, reported abuse was also higher in WWE compared with WWoE. Attention from clinicians and support services for WWE are needed to optimize good pregnancy outcomes.

Achieving the sustainable development goals (SDG) agenda, proposed by the United Nations by 2030, has become the main concern around the globe. The continuing ecological crises and energy sustainability issues can only be dealt with using sustainable solutions such as green finance. Green finance has become a pioneer in economic green transformation resulting in the collective development of both the economy and the environment. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of green finance on the achievement of the five major sustainable development goals in the context of the economy of Pakistan. The renewable energy scheme proposed by the State Bank of Pakistan in 2016 serves as a basis for this study. We innovate our research by studying the impact of green finance on five SDGs simultaneously. The association between the variables is checked using random effect modeling. The findings reveal that green finance supports SDG 3, 12, and 13 while having little effect on SDG 1 and SDG 2. Moreover, green finance is a suitable reform for the sustainable development of the economy and the environment. The study has robust policy implications for Pakistan.

Background: Cardiac and brain inflammation can lead to a host of deleterious health effects. Our formal experimental research showed that Ginkgo Biloba Extract (GBE) contributed to the reduction of inflammation in mice with myocardial infarction along with depression. This study is aimed at expanding on these findings via analysis of the cardiac and brain inflammation, which was prevented by GBE in rats suffering with a high-fat diet (HFD) combined with unpredictable chronic mild stress (UCMS). Methods: Fifty male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups treated with normal diet, UCMS, HFD, HFD+UCMS, or HFD+UCMS+GBE respectively. Rats treated with HFD were fed a high-fat diet for 10 or 13 weeks. Rats treated with UCMS were exposed to 8 types of chronic physical and psychological stressors for 10 or 13 weeks. The HFD+UCMS+GBE group was given GBE via intragastric gavage for 8 consecutive weeks. Sucrose preference was established for the assessment of depressive behaviors. The heart function was evaluated by echocardiography. The rats were terminated at the end of the 10th or 13th week. The blood was used for detecting low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c) and total cholesterol (TCHO) by the kit instructions; Helper T Lymphocytes (TH cells, CD3+CD4+) by flow cytometry; and Interleukin- (IL-) 1ß, IL-37, IL-38, NT-proBNP, hs-cTNI, and Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The cardiac tissues were used for detecting IL-1ß, nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), inhibitor molecule protein (IκB), and IL-1 receptor (IL-1R) by ELISA and P65, P-P65, IκB, and phosphorylated inhibitor molecule protein α (P-IκBα) for western blotting. Cortex tissues were used for detecting 8-iso-prostaglandinF2α (8-iso-PGF2α) by ELISA. Oil Red staining was carried out to evaluate the lipid deposits in the rats' aortic arteries. Sirius Red staining was performed to display collagen fibers in the arteries. Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE) staining was applied to reveal pathological changes to arteries and cardiac tissue. Immunohistochemical staining was employed to assess the distribution of inflammatory cytokine IL-1ß in arteries and cardiac tissues. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) was performed to observe the ultrastructure of hippocampal cornu ammonis (CA)1 (CA1) neurons. Results: In the rats with HFD+UCMS+GBE, over 13 weeks, GBE exerted a protective role of both the heart and brain, by attenuating cardiac inflammation and brain oxidative stress. Levels of Helper T lymphocytes and serum anti-inflammatory cytokines involving IL-37 and IL-38 were all elevated, and the depressive behaviors of HFD+UCMS rats were attenuated by GBE. This protective role was accomplished via inhibition of the canonical NF-κB signaling pathway, through downregulation of the expressions of P-P65 and P-IκB-α in the heart, hippocampus, cortex, and hypothalamus. Conclusions: This study suggests that GBE poses a protective role from the various pathologies associated with high-fat diets, unpredictable chronic mild stress, and depression, possibly via improving peripheral immunity and reducing cardiac and brain inflammation.

Thrombectomy or thrombolysis are the current standards of care for acute ischemic stroke (AIS), however, due to time constraints regarding operations and a multitude of contraindications, AIS remains one of the leading causes of death and chronic disability worldwide. In recent years, therapeutic hypothermia has been explored as an adjuvant therapy for AIS treatment and has shown potential to improve outcomes in patients with AIS. In particular, selective therapeutic hypothermia has shown to markedly reduce infarct volumes and have neuroprotective effects, while also minimizing many systemic side effects seen with systemic therapeutic hypothermia. Both preclinical and clinical trials have demonstrated that selective therapeutic hypothermia is a safe and feasible therapy for patients who have suffered an AIS. In this review, we summarize the current update on selective hypothermia through major studies that have been conducted in rodents, large animals, and clinical trials, and briefly discuss the prospects of selective hypothermic research. We hope this review helps facilitate the exploration of other possible adjuvant treatment modalities in the neuroprotection of ischemic stroke, whether upon symptom onset or after vascular recanalization.

Endovascular thrombectomy following an acute ischemic stroke can lead to improved functional outcome when performed early. Current guidelines suggest treatment within 6 h after symptom onset. Recent studies including the DEFUSE-3 and DAWN trials demonstrate that some patients may benefit from thrombectomy up to 16 and 24 h after symptom onset, respectively. We present a case of delayed thrombectomy in a 43-year-old man with acute dysarthria, left-sided weakness, and visual neglect. Initial MRI/A demonstrated a small completed stroke and a thrombus in the right middle cerebral artery. Thirty-seven hours after symptom onset, his weakness acutely worsened. A repeat MRI revealed an unchanged core infarct volume and a cerebral angiogram suggested an abrupt occlusion of the right distal M1. Thrombectomy was performed with complete reperfusion and the patient's strength recovered following the procedure. We compared our clinical reasoning with the DEFUSE-3 and DAWN study criteria, and conclude that there is a subset of patients that may safely benefit from thrombectomy in later time windows beyond the trial criteria, especially in the setting of clinical examination of imaging mismatch.

BACKGROUND: We are developing the Neurological Disease Ontology (ND) to provide a framework to enable representation of aspects of neurological diseases that are relevant to their treatment and study. ND is a representational tool that addresses the need for unambiguous annotation, storage, and retrieval of data associated with the treatment and study of neurological diseases. ND is being developed in compliance with the Open Biomedical Ontology Foundry principles and builds upon the paradigm established by the Ontology for General Medical Science (OGMS) for the representation of entities in the domain of disease and medical practice. Initial applications of ND will include the annotation and analysis of large data sets and patient records for Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. DESCRIPTION: ND is implemented in OWL 2 and currently has more than 450 terms that refer to and describe various aspects of neurological diseases. ND directly imports the development version of OGMS, which uses BFO 2. Term development in ND has primarily extended the OGMS terms 'disease', 'diagnosis', 'disease course', and 'disorder'. We have imported and utilize over 700 classes from related ontology efforts including the Foundational Model of Anatomy, Ontology for Biomedical Investigations, and Protein Ontology. ND terms are annotated with ontology metadata such as a label (term name), term editors, textual definition, definition source, curation status, and alternative terms (synonyms). Many terms have logical definitions in addition to these annotations. Current development has focused on the establishment of the upper-level structure of the ND hierarchy, as well as on the representation of Alzheimer's disease, multiple sclerosis, and stroke. The ontology is available as a version-controlled file at http://code.google.com/p/neurological-disease-ontology along with a discussion list and an issue tracker. CONCLUSION: ND seeks to provide a formal foundation for the representation of clinical and research data pertaining to neurological diseases. ND will enable its users to connect data in a robust way with related data that is annotated using other terminologies and ontologies in the biomedical domain.
