RESUMO

A proactive mobile network (PMN) is a novel architecture enabling extremely low-latency communication. This architecture employs an open-loop transmission mode that prohibits all real-time control feedback processes and employs virtual cell technology to allocate resources non-exclusively to users. However, such a design also results in significant potential user interference and worsens the communication's reliability. In this paper, we propose introducing multi-reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology into the downlink process of the PMN to increase the network's capacity against interference. Since the PMN environment is complex and time varying and accurate channel state information cannot be acquired in real time, it is challenging to manage RISs to service the PMN effectively. We begin by formulating an optimization problem for RIS phase shifts and reflection coefficients. Furthermore, motivated by recent developments in deep reinforcement learning (DRL), we propose an asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C)-based method for solving the problem by appropriately designing the action space, state space, and reward function. Simulation results indicate that deploying RISs within a region can significantly facilitate interference suppression. The proposed A3C-based scheme can achieve a higher capacity than baseline schemes and approach the upper limit as the number of RISs increases.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Internet of Things (IoT) suffers from vulnerable sensor nodes, which are likely to endure data falsification attacks following physical or cyber capture. Moreover, centralized decision-making and data fusion turn decision points into single points of failure, which are likely to be exploited by smart attackers. METHODS: To tackle this serious security threat, we propose a novel scheme for enabling distributed decision-making and data aggregation through the whole network. Sensor nodes in our scheme act following social learning principles, resembling agents within a social network. RESULTS: We analytically examine under which conditions local actions of individual agents can propagate through the network, clarifying the effect of Byzantine nodes that inject false information. Moreover, we show how our proposed algorithm can guarantee high network performance, even for cases when a significant portion of the nodes have been compromised by an adversary. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that social learning principles are well suited for designing robust IoT sensor networks and enabling resilience against data falsification attacks.

RESUMO

Information dissemination control is of crucial importance to facilitate reliable and efficient data delivery, especially in networks consisting of time-varying links or heterogeneous links. Since the abstraction of information dissemination much resembles the spread of epidemics, epidemic models are utilized to characterize the collective dynamics of information dissemination over networks. From a systematic point of view, we aim to explore the optimal control policy for information dissemination given that the control capability is a function of its distribution time, which is a more realistic model in many applications. The main contributions of this paper are to provide an analytically tractable model for information dissemination over networks, to solve the optimal control signal distribution time for minimizing the accumulated network cost via dynamic programming, and to establish a parametric plug-in model for information dissemination control. In particular, we evaluate its performance in mobile and generalized social networks as typical examples.
