RESUMO

Developing programmable bacterial cell-cell adhesion is of significant interest due to its versatile applications. Current methods that rely on presenting cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) on bacterial surfaces are limited by the lack of a generalizable strategy to identify such molecules targeting bacterial membrane proteins in their natural states. Here, we introduce a whole-cell screening platform designed to discover CAMs targeting bacterial membrane proteins within a synthetic bacteria-displayed nanobody library. Leveraging the potency of the bacterial type IV secretion system-a contact-dependent DNA delivery nanomachine-we have established a positive feedback mechanism to selectively enrich for bacteria displaying nanobodies that target antigen-expressing cells. Our platform successfully identified functional CAMs capable of recognizing three distinct outer membrane proteins (TraN, OmpA, OmpC), demonstrating its efficacy in CAM discovery. This approach holds promise for engineering bacterial cell-cell adhesion, such as directing the antibacterial activity of programmed inhibitor cells toward target bacteria in mixed populations.

A quick and reliable test of vocabulary knowledge is a vital component of many studies looking at a range of language processing skills. Recent proliferation of online (web-based) research has generated a growing need for reliable open-access vocabulary tests that can be administered online. This data report presents the newly developed 30-item Web-based Open-access Reliable Decision on Synonyms (WORDS) English Vocabulary Test. In Experiment 1, we tested 109 participants (age range: 18-69 years) on an initial set of 51 potential multiple-choice test items in which participants read a target word (e.g., ubiquitous) and selected a (near-)synonym (e.g., omnipresent) from among three semantically unrelated foils (e.g., interpersonal, catatonic, voluminous). We conducted an item response theory analysis of participants' accuracy data to select an optimal subset of 30 items to include in the final version of the test. In Experiment 2, we verified the reliability of this 30-item version in a different sample (N = 121; 18-79 years); reliability (internal consistency) was good (Cronbach's α = 0.82). We confirmed that, consistent with numerous previous studies, (1) responses were more accurate and quicker for more frequent compared to less frequent words, and (2) older adults showed greater vocabulary knowledge compared to younger adults. The WORDS test takes on average 4 minutes (5 minutes 40 seconds including consent/debrief) to complete. It can be freely accessed via Gorilla Open Materials (https://app.gorilla.sc/openmaterials/694887), allowing ease of use and for useful comparisons between data collected by different researchers.

PURPOSE: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) is a treatment for traumatic blunt thoracic aortic injury (BTAI) with good survival rates and safety. However, there is limited study on the risk factors for in-hospital mortality and complications. This study aimed to identify risk factors associated with poor in-hospital outcomes after TEVAR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a population-based, retrospective observational study. Data of adults ≥20 years admitted for BTAI who received TEVAR were extracted from the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (NIS) database 2005 to 2018. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality, and the secondary outcomes were length of stay (LOS) and unfavorable discharge (ie, non-routine discharge, including nursing homes or long-term care facilities). Associations between study variables and in-hospital outcomes were determined using univariate and multivariable logistic and linear regression analyses. RESULTS: Data of 1095 participants (representing 5360 hospitalized patients in the United States) were analyzed. Multivariable analysis revealed that older age (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=1.02) and having at least 1 perioperative complication (aOR=4.01) were significantly associated with increased risk for in-hospital mortality. Patients with at least 1 perioperative complication (aOR=11.19) had significantly increased odds for prolonged LOS. Risk for unfavorable discharge was significantly increased by older age (aOR=1.02), household income at quartile 2 (aOR=1.58), Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI) 2 to 3 (aOR=1.66), and having at least 1 complication (aOR=3.94). Complications including perioperative cerebrovascular accident (CVA) (aOR=2.75), venous thromboembolism (VTE) (aOR=2.87), pneumonia (aOR=3.93), sepsis (aOR=4.69), infection (aOR=4.49), respiratory failure (aOR=4.55), mechanical ventilation (aOR=3.27), and acute kidney injury (AKI) (aOR=3.09) significantly predicted prolonged LOS. CONCLUSIONS: In adults with traumatic BTAI undergoing TEVAR, advanced age and perioperative complications are risk factors for poor in-hospital outcomes. Acute kidney injury, CVA, respiratory failure, and sepsis are strong predictors of prolonged LOS, unfavorable discharge, and in-hospital mortality. CLINICAL IMPACT: The study identifies advanced age and perioperative complications as key risk factors for poor in-hospital outcomes in patients undergoing TEVAR for BTAI. Clinicians should be vigilant in managing these patients, particularly those with comorbidities, to mitigate risks. The findings suggest a need for tailored perioperative care strategies to improve survival rates and reduce complications. This research highlights the critical importance of early identification and intervention in high-risk patients, offering an innovative approach to refining TEVAR protocols and enhancing patient outcomes in trauma care.

The relationship between workplace justice and nonfatal occupational accidents in a single-payer healthcare system has rarely been explored. As countries strive to achieve and sustain universal health coverage, healthcare workers' occupational safety and health require greater concerns. We used the data from a national survey conducted on randomly sampled Taiwanese workers. One hundred forty eight males and 567 females, with a total of 715 healthcare workers aged 20 to 65, were analyzed. The workplace scale consisted of 4 subcomponents, including distributive justice, interpersonal justice, information justice, and procedural justice, and was dichotomized into low and high groups in each dimension. Logistic regression models examined the relationship between workplace justice and self-evaluated occupational accidents among healthcare employees. The prevalence of self-evaluated occupational accidents in healthcare employees was 15.54% and 11.64% for men and women, respectively. After adjusting variables such as sociodemographic variables, physical job demands, shift work status, work contract, and psychological job demands, regression analyses indicated that health employees with lower distributive justice, interpersonal justice, information justice, and procedural justice were significantly associated with self-evaluated occupational accidents both in males and females. Expanding the study to include healthcare systems in different countries could enhance the generalizability of the findings. Offering specific recommendations for policymakers and healthcare administrators to improve workplace justice and reduce occupational accidents.

This study extensively explored the adsorption behavior of heavy metals (Pb+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, Zn+2, and Cd+2) onto microplastics (MPs). The particle sizes of MPs ranged from 0.149 to 0.25 mm. The microplastics were generated from commercial products manufactured from both conventional (polyethylene (PE) bottle, polystyrene (PS) spoon, and polyethylene terephthalate (PET) egg carton) and biodegradable (polylactic acid (PLA) spoon, and polylactic acid (PLA) egg carton) plastics. The study also considered the influence of solution pH on the adsorption capacity of heavy metals. Regarding the adsorption potential for Cu+2, the ranking was as follows: PLA-egg (1408 µg·g-1) > PLA-spoon (735 µg·g-1) > PE-bottle (315 µg·g-1) > PET-egg (283 µg·g-1) > PS-spoon (237 µg·g-1). PLA MPs showed the highest adsorption capacity due to the lower thermal stability and higher presence of surface oxygen functional groups. Moreover, the adsorption capacities of the five metals onto PLA-spoon and PLA-egg decreased in the following order: Pb (1785 µg·g-1) > Zn (1267 µg·g-1) > Cd (748 µg·g-1) > Cu (735 µg·g-1) > Ni (722 µg·g-1), and Pb (1520 µg·g-1) > Ni (1412 µg·g-1) > Cu (1408 µg·g-1) > Zn (1118 µg·g-1) > Cd (423 µg·g-1), respectively. The SEM-EDS, FTIR and XPS results demonstrated that surface oxygen-containing functional groups play an important role during the adsorption process. This study extended its analysis to quantify the metal content of the post-adsorption MPs, revealing uneven adsorption of heavy metals onto the MPs. This implies that the diversity of commercial plastic products may result in significant variations in their ability to adsorb heavy metals, underscoring the importance of effectively managing discarded commercial plastic products.

Oat products have gained widespread recognition as a health food due to their rich and balanced nutritional profile and convenience. However, the unique matrix composition of oats, which differs significantly from other cereals, presents specific challenges for mycotoxin analysis. This study presents an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method enhanced with an innovative egg white gel pretreatment for the simultaneous analysis of 13 regulated and unregulated trichothecenes in oats. The method demonstrated excellent performance with high accuracy (> 87.5%), repeatability (< 5.7%), and reproducibility (< 8.1%). Analysis of 100 commercial oat products revealed a concerning detection rate (78%) for at least one of the 11 trichothecenes investigated. Notably, deoxynivalenol, exceeding the standard limit in 2% of samples, exhibited the highest detection rate (62%). Additionally, concerning co-occurrence patterns and positive correlations were observed, highlighting potential synergistic effects. The first-time detection of unregulated mycotoxins (T-2 triol, 4,15-diacetoxyscirpenol, 15-acetoxyscirpenol, and neosolaniol) underscores the need for comprehensive monitoring. This method, while developed for oats, shows potential for broader application to other cereals, though further investigation and confirmation are necessary. These findings suggest a potentially underestimated risk of trichothecenes in oats, necessitating continuous monitoring to ensure consumer safety.

In this paper, artificial intelligence (AI) technology is applied to the electromagnetic imaging of anisotropic objects. Advances in magnetic anomaly sensing systems and electromagnetic imaging use electromagnetic principles to detect and characterize subsurface or hidden objects. We use measured multifrequency scattered fields to calculate the initial dielectric constant distribution of anisotropic objects through the backpropagation scheme (BPS). Later, the estimated multifrequency permittivity distribution is input to a convolutional neural network (CNN) for the adaptive moment estimation (ADAM) method to reconstruct a more accurate image. In the meantime, we also improve the definition of loss function in the CNN. Numerical results show that the improved loss function unifying the structural similarity index measure (SSIM) and root mean square error (RMSE) can effectively enhance image quality. In our simulation environment, noise interference is considered for both TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) waves to reconstruct anisotropic scatterers. Lastly, we conclude that multifrequency reconstructions are more stable and precise than single-frequency reconstructions.

OBJECTIVES: Ketamine can induce persisting psychosis in a subset of individuals who use it chronically and heavily. Previously, we found that the psychopathology and cognitive impairments in patients with ketamine dependence (KD) exhibiting persistent psychosis (KPP) bear resemblances with schizophrenia, albeit with less severity in those with no persistent psychosis (KNP). Furthermore, we also showed that patients with KD had higher blood levels of neurofilament light chain (NFL), a biomarker for neuroaxonal injury, compared to healthy controls. In this study, we aimed to investigate the differences in NFL levels between patients with KPP and KNP while comparing the levels of individuals with schizophrenia and healthy controls. METHODS: We enrolled 64 treatment-seeking ketamine-dependent patients (53 with KNP and 11 with KPP), 37 medication-free patients with schizophrenia, and 80 healthy controls. Blood NFL levels were measured by single molecule array immunoassay. RESULTS: NFL levels were highest in the KPP subgroup, followed by the KNP subgroup, and then the schizophrenia and control groups (mean ± SD: 24.5 ± 24.7, 12.9 ± 10.9, 9.2 ± 12.2, and 6.2 ± 2.2 pg/mL, respectively), with no significant difference observed between the schizophrenia and control groups. CONCLUSIONS: We found that KD is associated with higher NFL levels compared to schizophrenia, with the KPP subgroup showing the most consistent alterations. The observation of accentuated neuroaxonal pathology in individuals with KPP implies that this clinical manifestation is associated with a specific neurobiological phenotype, despite prior evidence suggesting syndromal similarity between schizophrenia and KPP.

BACKGROUND: Bipolar disorder (BD) is hypothesized to be associated with accelerated biological aging. Telomere length (TL) is a biomarker of aging, and although TL decreases with each cell division, the rate of telomere shortening may be affected by inflammation. We aimed to investigate whether TL is decreased in BD patients and to determine the association between TL and inflammatory markers in such patients. METHODS: 137 BD patients and 118 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited. Leukocyte TL and plasma levels of cytokines [tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-8, IL-6, IL-10, transforming growth factor (TGF)-ß1], C-reactive protein (CRP), and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) were assessed. RESULTS: TL did not differ significantly between the BD patients and HCs after adjustment for potential confounding factors (P = 0.79). TL was significantly negatively associated with age (ß = -0.007, P < 0.001). In addition, log TNF-α levels were significantly negatively associated with TL (P = 0.009), in both the BD patients (P = 0.02) and HCs (P = 0.05). CONCLUSION: We found a significant association between TNF-α levels and TL shortening in both BD patients and HCs. However, BD patients did not display increased TL shortening relative to HCs. Studies that involve larger sample sizes and control for the heterogeneity of BD participants will be needed.

Soft-matter-based photonic crystals like blue-phase liquid crystals (BPLC) have potential applications in wide-ranging photonic and bio-chemical systems. To date, however, there are limitations in the fabrication of large monocrystalline BPLCs. Traditional crystal-growth process involves the transition from a high-temperature disordered phase to an ordered (blue) phase and is generally slow (takes hours) with limited achievable lattice structures, and efforts to improve molecular alignment through post-crystallization field application typically prove ineffective. Here we report a systematic study on the molecular self-assembly dynamics of BPLC starting from a highly ordered phase in which all molecules are unidirectionally aligned by a strong electric field. We have discovered that, near the high-temperature end of the blue phase, if the applied field strength is then switched to an intermediate level or simply turned off, large-area monocrystalline BPLCs of various symmetries (tetragonal, orthorhombic, cubic) can be formed in minutes. Subsequent temperature tuning of the single crystal at a fixed applied field allows access to different lattice parameters and the formation of never-before-seen monoclinic structures. The formed crystals remain stable upon field removal. The diversity of stable monocrystalline BPLCs with widely tunable crystalline symmetries, band structures, and optical dispersions will significantly improve and expand their application potentials.

In deserts, sedimentation from frequent dust activities on solar cells poses a substantial technical challenge, reducing efficiency and necessitating advanced cost-inefficient cleaning mechanisms. Herein, a novel sandfish scale-inspired self-healing fluorinated copolymer-based triboelectric layer is directly incorporated on top of the polysilicon solar cell for sustained hybrid energy harvesting. The transparent biomimetic layer, with distinctive saw-tooth microstructured morphology, exhibits ultra-low sand adhesion and high abrasion-resistant properties, inhibits sedimentation deposition on solar cells, and concurrently harvests kinetic energy from wind-driven sand particles through triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG). The film exhibits a low friction coefficient (0.149), minimal sand adhesion force (27 nN), and a small wear area (327 µm2). In addition, over 2 months, a solar cell with the sandfish scale-inspired structure demonstrates only a 16% decline in maximum power output compared to the bare solar cell, which experiences a 60% decline. Further, the sandfish scale-based TENG device's electrical output is fully restored to its original value after a 6-h self-healing cycle and maintains consistent stable outputs. These results highlight the exceptional advantages of employing biomimetic self-healing materials as robust triboelectric layers, showcasing sustained device stability and durability for prolonged use in harsh desert environments, ultimately contributing to a low cost-of-electricity generation paradigm.

BACKGROUND: Neutrophilic inflammation, characterized by dysregulated neutrophil activation, triggers a variety of inflammatory responses such as chemotactic infiltration, oxidative bursts, degranulation, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formation, and delayed turnover. This type of inflammation is pivotal in the pathogenesis of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and psoriasis. Despite current treatments, managing neutrophil-associated inflammatory symptoms remains a significant challenge. AIM OF REVIEW: This review emphasizes the role of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) in neutrophil activation and inflammation. It aims to highlight the therapeutic potential of repurposing CDK inhibitors to manage neutrophilic inflammation, particularly in ARDS and psoriasis. Additionally, it discusses the necessary precautions for the clinical application of these inhibitors due to potential off-target effects and the need for dose optimization. KEY SCIENTIFIC CONCEPTS OF REVIEW: CDKs regulate key neutrophilic functions, including chemotactic responses, degranulation, NET formation, and apoptosis. Repurposing CDK inhibitors, originally developed for cancer treatment, shows promise in controlling neutrophilic inflammation. Clinical anticancer drugs, palbociclib and ribociclib, have demonstrated efficacy in treating neutrophilic ARDS and psoriasis by targeting off-label pathways, phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K) and phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4), respectively. While CDK inhibitors offer promising therapeutic benefits, their clinical repurposing requires careful consideration of off-target effects and dose optimization. Further exploration and clinical trials are necessary to ensure their safety and efficacy in treating inflammatory conditions.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Lymphoepithelioma-like cholangiocarcinoma (LELCC) is a rare variant of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (ICC). We aim to analyze the differences in the clinical and radiological features of LELCC and ICC. METHODS: Between January 2003 and December 2019, a total of 21 patients diagnosed with LELCC were retrospectively enrolled, and 84 patients with ICC were selected through propensity score matching by sex, age, and initial cancer stage. The clinical characteristics, pathological findings, and radiological features were analyzed. The differences in overall survival (OS) between LELCC and ICC were evaluated using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: The serum carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA 19-9) level was higher in the ICC group than in the LELCC group (77.9 vs 30.0 U/mL, p = 0.004). Non-rim arterial phase hyperenhancement (47.1% vs 13.7%, p = 0.005) and portovenous washout (35.3% vs 4.1%, p = 0.001) were more frequently observed in the LELCC group than in the ICC group. Intrahepatic duct dilatation was a distinct feature of the ICC group. The 5-year OS rates in the LELCC and ICC groups were 69.3% and 58.2%, respectively (p = 0.047). The 5-year OS of patients with stages I and II LELCC between ICC were not significantly different (90.0% vs 83.4%, p = 0.464). However, the 5-year OS of patients with stages III and IV LELCC was more favorable than that of patients with ICC (29.2% vs 23.0%, p = 0.017). CONCLUSIONS: LELCC had a favorable outcome and several different clinicoradiological features compared with ICC.

The movement of liquid droplets on the energy gradient surface has attracted extensive attention inspired by biological features in nature, such as the periodic spindle-shaped nodes in spider silks and conical-like barbs of cacti, and the structure-property-function relationship of multifunctional gradient surfaces. In this study, a series of specific patterns are fabricated with 3D printing technology, followed by modification via the atmospheric pressure plasma treatment and liquid phase chemical deposition, resulting in enhancing the ability of water droplets of 5 µL to travel 18.47 mm on a horizontal plane and 22.75 mm against gravity at up to a 20° tilting angle. Additionally, analysis techniques have been employed, including a contact angle analyzer, ESCA, and a laser confocal microscope to evaluate the sample performance. This work could further be applied to many applications related to microfluidic devices, drug delivery and water/fog collection.

Aim: Chemoresistance in cancer challenges the classical therapeutic strategy of 'one molecule-one target'. To combat this, multi-target therapies that inhibit various cancer-relevant targets simultaneously are proposed. Methods & results: We introduce 5-hydroxybenzothiophene derivatives as effective multi-target kinase inhibitors, showing notable growth inhibitory activity across different cancer cell lines. Specifically, compound 16b, featuring a 5-hydroxybenzothiophene hydrazide scaffold, emerged as a potent inhibitor, displaying low IC50 values against key kinases and demonstrating significant anti-cancer effects, particularly against U87MG glioblastoma cells. It induced G2/M cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and inhibited cell migration by modulating apoptotic markers. Conclusion: 16b represents a promising lead for developing new anti-cancer agents targeting multiple kinases with affinity to the hydroxybenzothiophene core.

BACKGROUND: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder of connective tissue caused by mutations associated with type I collagen, which results in defective extracellular matrix in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) cartilage and subchondral bone. TMJ is a fibrocartilaginous joint expressing type I collagen both in the cartilage and the subchondral bone. In the present study the effects of alendronate and altered loading of the TMJ was analyzed both in male and female OI mice. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-eight, 10-weeks-old male and female OI mice were divided into 3 groups: (1) Control group: unloaded group, (2) Saline + Loaded: Saline was injected for 2 weeks and then TMJ of mice was loaded for 5 days, (3) alendronate + loaded: alendronate was injected for 2 weeks and then TMJ of mice was loaded for 5 days. Mice in all the groups were euthanized 24-h after the final loading. RESULTS: Alendronate pretreatment led to significant increase in bone volume and tissue density. Histomorphometrically, alendronate treatment led to increase in mineralization, cartilage thickness and proteoglycan distribution. Increased mineralization paralleled decreased osteoclastic activity. Our immunohistochemistry revealed decreased expression of matrix metallopeptidase 13 and ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 5. CONCLUSION: The findings of this research support that alendronate prevented the detrimental effects of loading on the extracellular matrix of the TMJ cartilage and subchondral bone.

PURPOSE: Although the validity of the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) as an effectiveness measure for sleep apnea treatments such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) has been supported by multiple studies, some researchers continue to challenge it. They suggest that in addition to its impact on relieving patients' daytime sleepiness, CPAP also alters the internal standards patients use to evaluate their sleepiness (i.e., response shift; RS), confounding the meaning of the difference in the ESS scores. We believe an issue yet to be addressed in this debate is that all existing evidence of RS has been obtained through the then-test approach, a retrospective method sensitive to various cognitive mechanisms. Thus, in the current study, we re-examined this issue using the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach, a method that can be directly applied to randomized clinical trial (RCT) data without retrospective measures. METHODS: With the ESS data from two independent RCTs, we conducted cross-sectional and longitudinal measure invariance tests in SEM to examine whether CPAP would lead to RS. RESULTS: The ESS demonstrated cross-sectional and longitudinal scalar invariance against CPAP treatments. Its factorial pattern, loadings, and thresholds were invariant between the treatment and control groups and pre- and post-treatment, supporting the comparability of the observed mean ESS scores across time and groups. CONCLUSION: Our results support the validity of the average difference scores of the ESS for quantifying the effectiveness of CPAP on group-level daytime sleepiness in RCTs with relatively large sample sizes.

PURPOSE: Previous research shows conflicting views on the relationship between obesity and osteoporosis, partly due to variations in obesity classification and the nonlinear nature of these relationships. This study investigated the association between adiposity indices and osteoporosis, diagnosed using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA), employing nonlinear models and offering optimal thresholds to prevent further bone mineral density decline. METHODS: In 2019, a prospective study enrolled males over 50 years and postmenopausal women. Anthropometric measurements, blood biochemistry, and osteoporosis measured by DXA were collected. Associations between adiposity indices and osteoporosis were analyzed using a generalized additive model and segmented regression model. RESULTS: The study included 872 women and 1321 men. Indices such as abdominal volume index (AVI), visceral adiposity index (VAI), waist circumference (WC), hip circumference, body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio, and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) were inversely associated with osteoporosis. In women, the relationship between the risk of osteoporosis and the adiposity indices was U-shaped, with thresholds of WC = 94 cm, AVI = 17.67 cm2, BMI = 25.74 kg/m2, VAI = 4.29, and WHtR = 0.61, considering changes in bone mineral density. Conversely, men exhibited a linear patterns for the inverse association. CONCLUSION: The impact of obesity and adiposity on osteoporosis varies significantly between women and men. In postmenopausal women, the relationship is nonlinear (U-shaped), with both very low and very high adiposity linked to higher osteoporosis risk. In men over 50, the relationship is linear, with higher adiposity associated with lower osteoporosis risk. The study suggests that maintaining specific levels of adiposity could help prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

RESUMO

The tissue diagnosis of adenocarcinoma and intraductal carcinoma of the prostate (IDC-P) includes Gleason grading of tumor morphology on the hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) stain, and immunohistochemistry (IHC) markers on the PIN-4 stain (CK5/6, P63, AMACR). In this work, we create an automated system for producing both virtual H&E and PIN-4 IHC stains from unstained prostate tissue using a high-throughput hyperspectral fluorescence microscope and artificial intelligence & machine learning. We demonstrate that the virtual stainer models can produce high-quality images suitable for diagnosis by genitourinary pathologists. Specifically, we validate our system through extensive human review and computational analysis, using a previously-validated Gleason scoring model, and an expert panel, on a large dataset of test slides. This study extends our previous work on virtual staining from autofluorescence, demonstrates the clinical utility of this technology for prostate cancer, and exemplifies a rigorous standard of qualitative and quantitative evaluation for digital pathology.
