AIMS: Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) has etiological and pathophysiological heterogeneity. Abnormal circadian rhythm (ACR) is related to the development of DCM in animal models, but exploration based on clinical samples is lacking. Sleep apnea (SA) is the most common disease related to ACR, and we chose SA as the study object to explore ACR-DCM. METHODS AND RESULTS: We included a derivation cohort (n =105) and a validation cohort (n = 65). DCM patients were divided into SA and without SA group. RT-qPCR was used to determine the change of rhythm gene expression pattern of heart samples from different timepoints. We used single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) to explore the abnormal transcriptional patterns in the ACR group, and we verified the findings by pathological staining, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and Rev-erbα/ß knockout (KO) mice analysis. DCM patients with SA showed decreased amplitude of rhythm gene expression. SA group showed more severe dilation of left heart chambers. From snRNA-seq, ACR-DCM lost the morning transcriptional patterns, detailly, actin cytoskeleton organization of cardiomyocytes (CMs) disrupted and hypertrophy aggravated, and the proportion of activated fibroblasts (Fibs) decreased with the reduction of fibrotic area ratio. The results of pathological staining, mechanical experiments, and transcriptional feature of Rev-erbα/ß KO mice supported the above findings. CONCLUSION: Compared with the non-SA group, left ventricular (LV) wall dilation was more severe and the structural strength was lower in DCM patients with SA, and phenotypic changes in CM and Fib were involved in this process. ACR-DCM was histopathologically characterized by a structurally weak ventricular wall.

Air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter (PM2.5) with <2.5 µm in diameter, is a major public health concern. Studies have consistently linked PM2.5 exposure to a heightened risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) such as ischemic heart disease (IHD), heart failure (HF), and cardiac arrhythmias. Notably, individuals with pre-existing age-related cardiometabolic conditions appear more susceptible. However, the specific impact of PM2.5 on CVDs susceptibility in older adults remains unclear. Therefore, this review addresses this gap by discussing the factors that make the elderly more vulnerable to PM2.5-induced CVDs. Accordingly, we focused on physiological aging, increased susceptibility, cardiometabolic risk factors, CVDs, and biological mechanisms. This review concludes by examining potential interventions to reduce exposure and the adverse health effects of PM2.5 in the elderly population. The latter includes dietary modifications, medications, and exploration of the potential benefits of supplements. By comprehensively analyzing these factors, this review aims to provide a deeper understanding of the detrimental effects of PM2.5 on cardiovascular health in older adults. This knowledge can inform future research and guide strategies to protect vulnerable populations from the adverse effects of air pollution.

Pulmonary fibrosis (PF) is a common, severe, chronic, and progressive pulmonary interstitial disease characterized by rapid disease progression and high mortality. Despite the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s approval of two antifibrotic drugs, nintedanib and pirfenidone, effectively halting the progression of pulmonary fibrosis remains challenging. Histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors have indeed emerged as an important class of antitumour drugs. However, their application in the treatment of fibrotic diseases is still relatively limited. Tumour necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) has the potential to inhibit fibrotic processes by inducing fibroblast apoptosis. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) inhibitors that activate TRAIL, among which compound 7e exhibited potent inhibitory activity against HDAC6, with an IC50 of 42.90 ± 4.96 nM and superior antiproliferative effects on fibroblasts. Therefore, we further investigated its anti-pulmonary fibrosis effect in mouse models of both idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and silicosis. Our results suggest that compound 7e is a promising candidate for the treatment of pulmonary fibrosis.

In this study, we aimed to develop brain-targeted co-delivery liposomes for the concurrent delivery of Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) for the treatment of ischemic stroke. Within this system, PNS served as a cholesterol substitute, integrating into the phospholipid bilayer of the liposomes, while ASA was encapsulated internally. A poly-2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (PMPC) polymer was synthesized and incorporated into the liposome surface. This formulation demonstrated an enhanced PNS-loading capacity and facilitated the synchronized delivery of key saponin components. Following PMPC modification, the liposomes exhibited prolonged circulation and improved transport across the blood-brain barrier (BBB) through acetylcholine receptor-mediated pathways. Furthermore, the co-delivery system exhibited enhanced therapeutic efficacy in a rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury via the phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase C pathway. Additional analyses revealed significant effects on the metabolism of neurotransmitters, amino acids, folate, and various other pathways, indicating a multi-faceted therapeutic effect. Overall, this study presents an innovative research strategy for the comprehensive delivery of diverse components in traditional Chinese medicine formulations, highlighting the potential for synergistic treatments that combine traditional Chinese medicine with chemical agents.

Using first-principles theory, this work purposes Ru-doped Janus WSSe (Ru-WSSe) monolayer as a potential gas sensor for detection of three typical gas species (CO, C2H2, and C2H4), in order to evaluate the operation status of the oil-immersed transformers. The Ru-doping behavior on the WSSe surface is analyzed, giving rise to the preferred doping site by the replacement of a Se atom with the formation energy of 0.01 eV. The gas adsorption of three gas species onto the Ru-WSSe monolayer is conducted, and chemisorption is identified for all three gas systems with the adsorption energy following the order: CO (-2.22 eV) > C2H2 (-2.01 eV) > C2H4 (-1.70 eV). Also, the modulated electronic properties and the frontier molecular orbital are investigated to uncover the sensing mechanism of Ru-WSSe monolayer upon three typical gases. Results reveal that the sensing responses of the Ru-WSSe monolayer, based on the variation of energy gap, to CO, C2H2, and C2H4 molecules are calculated to be 1.67 × 106, 2.10 × 105, and 9.61 × 103, respectively. Finally, the impact of the existence of O2 molecule for gas adsorption and sensing is also analyzed to uncover the potential of Ru-WSSe monolayer for practical application in the air atmosphere. The obtained high electrical responses manifest strong potential as a resistive sensor for detection of three gases. The findings hold practical implications for the development of novel gas sensing materials based on Janus WSSe monolayer. We anticipate that our results will inspire further research in this domain, particularly for applications in electrical engineering where the reliable detection of fault gases is paramount for maintaining the integrity and safety of power systems.

Aqueous calcium ion batteries, promising for energy storage, are still challenged by very limited anode choices. Although a Zn metal anode is popular in aqueous batteries, interface instability due to incessant corrosion and severe Zn dendrites hinders its development. Here, an interphase layer with densely packed nanocrystals of Ca3(CO3)2(OH)2·1.5H2O and ZnF2, and amorphous organic species, is demonstrated for a Zn metal anode with 1 M calcium trifluoromethyl sulfonate aqueous electrolyte. The hybrid interface fully avoids direct Zn-H2O contact, maintains fast ion conductivity, and effectively prevents corrosion and dendrite growth. Therefore, the symmetric cell stably lasts for 1600 h at 0.5 mA cm-2 and 2.5 mAh cm-2, far superior to 150 h for the control cell. Furthermore, the device maintains 80% capacity retention after 700 cycles at 1 A g-1, outperforming 13% retention after 200 cycles for the control device. This work indicates that interface and interphase engineering is also crucial for aqueous batteries.

AIM: To assess the global and regional burden of hip fractures associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D) from 1990 to 2021. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The population attributable fraction was calculated by combining the published risk ratio with T1D prevalence (age ≥ 20 years) from the Global Burden of Disease study to estimate the T1D-associated hip-fracture burden. Trends were assessed using the age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC). RESULTS: The global incidence of T1D-related hip fractures was 290 180 in 2021 with an ASIR of 3.96 (95% confidence interval: 1.92-5.87) per 100 000 population and a male-to-female ratio of 0.54. At the super-regional level, the highest incidence (204 610) and ASIR (13.09 per 100 000 population; 6.40-25.53) were observed in high-income regions, in particular in Australasia and Western Europe. Notably, Australasia exhibited the highest EAPC, 2.90% in T1D-associated ASIR, followed by East Asia (2.73%). The incidence among those aged 45-64 years grew significantly in 14 regions over the past decade. Nationally, the ASIR increased in 166 countries from 1990 to 2021. CONCLUSIONS: High-income regions experienced the greatest burden of T1D-associated hip fracture, while Australasia and East Asia witnessed the largest increase over the last 32 years. Prioritizing the promotion of T1D treatment and hip-fracture screening for middle-aged females living with T1D is crucial in these regions.

The therapeutic efficacy of drugs is determined, to a certain extent, by the efficiency of drug delivery. The low efficiency of drug delivery systems (DDSs) is frequently associated with serious toxic side effects and can even prove fatal in certain cases. With the rapid development of technology, drug delivery has evolved from using traditional frameworks to using nano DDSs (NDDSs), endogenous biomaterials DDSs (EBDDSs), and living cell DDSs (LCDDSs). LCDDSs are receiving widespread attention from researchers at present owing to the unique advantages of living cells in targeted drug delivery, including their excellent biocompatibility properties, low immunogenicity, unique biological properties and functions, and role in the treatment of diseases. However, the theoretical basis and techniques involved in the application of LCDDSs have not been extensively summarized to date. Therefore, this review comprehensively summarizes the properties and applications of living cells, elaborates the various drug loading approaches and controlled drug release, and discusses the results of clinical trials. The review also discusses the current shortcomings and prospects for the future development of LCDDSs, which will serve as highly valuable insights for the development and clinical transformation of LCDDSs in the future.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to identify ultrasound and clinicopathological characteristics related to recurrence in HER2-positive (HER2+) breast cancer, and to develop nomograms for predicting recurrence. METHODS: In this dual-center study, we retrospectively enrolled 570 patients with HER2+ breast cancer. The ultrasound and clinicopathological characteristics of hormone receptor (HR)-/HER2+ patients and HR+/HER2+ patients were analyzed separately according to HR status. Eighty percent of the original samples from HR-/HER2+ and HR+/HER2+ patients were extracted by bootstrap sampling as the training cohorts, while the remaining 20% were used as the external validation cohorts. Informative characteristics were screened through univariate and multivariable Cox regression in the training cohorts and used to develop nomograms for predicting recurrence. The predictive accuracy was calculated using Harrell's C-index and calibration curves. RESULTS: Three informative characteristics (axillary nodal status, calcification, and Adler degree) were identified in HR-/HER2+ patients, and another three (histological grade, axillary nodal status, and echogenic halo) in HR+/HER2+ patients. Based on these, two separate nomograms were constructed to assess recurrence risk. In the training cohorts, the C-index was 0.740 (95% CI: 0.667-0.811) for HR-/HER2+ nomogram, and 0.749 (95% CI: 0.679-0.820) for HR+/HER2+ nomogram. In the validation cohorts, the C-index was 0.708 (95% CI: 0.540-0.877) for HR-/HER2+ group, and 0.705 (95% CI: 0.557-0.853) for HR+/HER2+ group. The calibration curves also indicated the excellent accuracy of the nomograms. CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasound performance of HER2+ breast cancers with different HR status was significantly different. Nomograms integrating ultrasound and clinicopathological characteristics exhibited favorable performance and have the potential to serve as a reliable method for predicting recurrence in heterogeneous breast cancer.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have gained tremendous notice for the application in alkaline water/seawater oxidation due to their tunable structures and abundant accessible metal sites. However, exploring cost-effective oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity and excellent stability remains a great challenge. In this work, a promising strategy is proposed to regulate the crystalline structures and electronic properties of NiFe-metal-organic frameworks (NiFe-MOFs) by altering the organic ligands. As a representative sample, NiFe-BDC (BDC: C8H6O4) synthesized on nickel foam (NF) shows extraordinary OER activity in alkaline condition, delivering ultralow overpotentials of 204, 234 and 273 mV at 10, 100, and 300 mA cm-2, respectively, with a small Tafel slope of 21.6 mV dec-1. Only a slight decrease is observed when operating in alkaline seawater. The potential attenuation is barely identified at 200 mA cm-2 over 200 h continuous test, indicating the remarkable stability and corrosion resistance. In-situ measurements indicate that initial Ni2+/Fe2+ goes through oxidation process into Ni3+/Fe3+ during OER, and eventually presents in the form of NiFeOOH/NiFe-BDC heterojunction. The unique self-reconstructed surface is responsible for the low reaction barrier and fast reaction kinetics. This work provides an effective strategy to develop efficient MOF-based electrocatalysts and an insightful view on the dynamic structural evolution during OER.

PURPOSE: Mucinous breast carcinoma (MBC) tends to be misdiagnosed as fibroadenomas (FA) due to its benign imaging characteristics. We aimed to develop a deep learning (DL) model to differentiate MBC and FA based on ultrasound (US) images. The model could contribute to the diagnosis of MBC for radiologists. METHODS: In this retrospective study, 884 eligible patients (700 FA patients and 184 MBC patients) with 2257 US images were enrolled. The images were randomly divided into a training set (n = 1805 images) and a test set (n = 452 images) in a ratio of 8:2. First, we used the training set to establish DL model, DL+ age-cutoff model and DL+ age-tree model. Then, we compared the diagnostic performance of three models to get the optimal model. Finally, we evaluated the diagnostic performance of radiologists (4 junior and 4 senior radiologists) with and without the assistance of the optimal model in the test set. RESULTS: The DL+ age-tree model yielded higher areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) than DL model and DL+ age-cutoff model (0.945 vs. 0.835, P < .001; 0.945 vs. 0.931, P < .001, respectively). With the assistance of DL+ age-tree model, both junior and senior radiologists' AUC had significant improvement (0.746-0.818, P = .010, 0.827-0.860, P = .005, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: The DL+ age-tree model based on US images and age showed excellent performance in the differentiation of MBC and FA. Moreover, it can effectively improve the performance of radiologists with different degrees of experience that may contribute to reducing the misdiagnosis of MBC.

Cancer cells undergo metabolic reprogramming that is intricately linked to malignancy. Protein acylations are especially responsive to metabolic changes, influencing signal transduction pathways and fostering cell proliferation. However, as a novel type of acylations, the involvement of malonylation in cancer remains poorly understood. In this study, we observed a significant reduction in malonyl-CoA levels in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), which correlated with a global decrease in malonylation. Subsequent nuclear malonylome analysis unveiled nucleolin (NCL) malonylation, which was notably enhanced in HCC biopsies. we demonstrated that NCL undergoes malonylation at lysine residues 124 and 398. This modification triggers the translocation of NCL from the nucleolus to nucleoplasm and cytoplasm, binding to AKT mRNA, and promoting AKT translation in HCC. Silencing AKT expression markedly attenuated HCC cell proliferation driven by NCL malonylation. These findings collectively highlight nuclear signaling in modulating AKT expression, suggesting NCL malonylation as a novel mechanism through which cancer cells drive cell proliferation.

BACKGROUND: This study aims to evaluate the short-term efficacy for locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC) who accepted laparoscopic gastrectomy (LG) after neoadjuvant SOX versus SOX plus immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). METHODS: LAGC patients who accepted LG after neoadjuvant SOX (SOX-LG, n = 169) and SOX plus ICIs (SOX + ICIs-LG, n = 140) in three medical centers between Jan 2020 and Mar 2024 were analyzed. We compared the tumor regression, treatment-related adverse events (TRAEs), perioperative safety between two groups, and explored the risk factors of postoperative complications (POCs) for LG after neoadjuvant therapy. RESULTS: The baseline characteristics were comparable between two groups (P > 0.05). SOX + ICIs-LG group acquired a higher proportion of objective response (63.6% vs. 46.7%, P = 0.003), major pathological response (43.6% vs. 31.4%, P = 0.001), and pathological complete response (17.9% vs. 9.5%, P = 0.030). There were no significant differences in the TRAEs rates, operation time, R0 resection, retrieved lymph nodes, postoperative first flatus, and hospitalized days, overall and severe POCs between two groups (P > 0.05). Patients in the SOX-ICIs-LG group had lower estimated blood loss (EBL) compared with SOX-LG (P = 0.001). Multivariate analysis showed that more EBL (P = 0.003) and prognostic nutritional index (PNI) < 40 (P = 0.005) were independent risk factors of POCs for LG after neoadjuvant therapy. CONCLUSION: Neoadjuvant SOX plus ICIs brings better tumor regression and similar TRAEs compared with SOX alone for LAGC. SOX + ICIs-LG is safe and feasible to conduct with less EBL. Surgeons should focus on the perioperative management to control POCs for patients with PNI < 40 and more EBL.

The presence of organic phosphorus may influence the characteristics of Cr(VI) reduction and immobilization on Fe(II)-bearing clay minerals under anoxic conditions, as the organic phosphorus tends to bind strongly to clay minerals in soil. Herein, reduced nontronite (rNAu-2) was used to reduction of Cr(VI) in the presence of phytic acid (IHP) at neutral pH. With IHP concentration from 0 to 500 µM, Cr(VI) reduction decreased obviously (17.8%) within first 5 min, and then preferred to stagnate during 4-12 h (≥50 µM). After that, Cr(VI) was reduced continuously at a slightly faster rate. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that IHP primarily absorbed at the edge sites of rNAu-2 to form Fe-IHP complexes. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results demonstrated that IHP hindered the ingress of CrO42- into the interlayer space of rNAu-2 and impeded their reduction by trioctahedral Fe(II) and Al-Fe(II) at basal plane sites in the initial stage. Additionally, Fe(II) extraction results showed that IHP promoted the electron from interior transfer to near-edge, but hindered it further transfer to surface, resulting in the inhibition on Cr(VI) reduction at edge sites during the later stage. Consequently, IHP inhibits the reduction and immobilization of Cr(VI) by rNAu-2. Our study offers novel insights into electron transfer pathways during the Cr(VI) reduction by rNAu-2 with coexisting IHP, thereby improve the understanding of the geochemical processes of chromium within the iron cycle in soil.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, particularly anthropogenic emissions, are the primary drivers of climate change. The cultivation of microalgae represents a highly promising strategy for mitigating atmospheric GHG levels. The growth characteristics and GHG mitigation capabilities of Tetradesmus obliquus PF3 were investigated in domestic wastewater at a thermal power plant. The maximum cell density and productivity were 1.52 ± 0.01 g L-1 and 0.33 ± 0.01 g L-1 day-1, respectively. Utilizing a serial configuration of two reactors, the elimination efficiency of NO and CO2 attained values of 78 ± 4% and 14 ± 4%, respectively. NO concentration at the outlet was less than 24.6 ± 2.9 mg m-3, meeting the latest Chinese discharge limits. Besides, the recovery efficiency of NO and CO2 increased to 77 ± 8% and 2.24 ± 0.04%, respectively, compared to that of the single reactor (40 ± 3%, 0.9 ± 0.0%). A removal efficiency of over 90% was achieved for TN and TP in domestic wastewater. The concentrations of COD (76.5 mg L-1), NH4+-N (0.9 mg L-1), TN(6.31 mg L-1), and TP (0.35 mg L-1) in effluent were below the thresholds of 100 mg L-1, 25 mg L-1, none data, and 3 mg L-1, respectively, complying with the Chinese Discharge Standard (Class II criteria set forth) for Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants Pollutants. The harvested biomass exhibited a high content of carbohydrates and proteins, making it a viable feedstock for biofuels and bio-fertilizers. Our results demonstrate that Tetradesmus obliquus PF3-based flue gas treatment technology can simultaneously realize GHG removal, wastewater bio-remediation, and biomass recovery.

In this paper, the preparation of a transparent superhydrophobic composite coating with a thermal insulation function using antimony-doped tin oxide (ATO) nanoparticles is proposed, which has advantages of being mass-producible and low-cost. In short, nanosilica and ATO are used as raw materials for constructing rough structures, and superhydrophobic coatings are obtained by mixing and adding binders after modification of each, which are then applied to the surface of various substrates by spraying to obtain a transparent superhydrophobic coating with a heat-insulating function. The specific role of each nanoparticle is discussed through comparative experiments that illustrate the mechanism by which the two particles construct rough structures. The coating achieves unique thermal insulation properties while possessing excellent superhydrophobicity (WCA of ∼163° and WSA of ∼3°) and high light transmission (∼70%). Heat-shielding experiments have demonstrated that the composite coating effectively reduces the room temperature by approximately 19% for the same irradiation time. The coating achieves a balanced improvement in visible transmittance, thermal insulation, and superhydrophobicity. In addition, the coating's self-cleaning properties, mechanical properties, chemical weathering resistance, high-temperature resistance, and anti-icing properties were verified through various experiments.

Ecological drought is a complex process in terrestrial ecosystems where vegetation's eco-physiological functions are impaired due to water stress. However, there is currently a lack of long-term assessment of ecological drought from an eco-physiological perspective. In this study, the standardized ecological drought index (SESNDI) was developed using actual evaporation, root soil moisture, and kernel normalized difference vegetation index via the Euclidean distance method, reflecting ecosystem physiology, water supply capacity, and vegetation status. Solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence validated SESNDI by reflecting vegetation photosynthesis. Using China as an example, severely impacted by climate change and ecological restoration, ecological drought's spatio-temporal variation and propagation characteristics was evaluated using clustering algorithms. The results demonstrated that (1) SESNDI showed superior performance over several other drought indices. (2) During 1982-2020, ecological drought was prevalent from 1990 to 2010, especially in the central and northeastern regions. (3) Compared to 1982-2000, the median duration and affected area of ecological drought events during 2001-2020 reduced by four months and 1.51 × 105 km2, respectively, while the median intensity increased by 0.06. (4) Decreased precipitation and increased temperature were the primary factors contributing to the frequent occurrence of ecological drought in China from 1990 to 2010. This study offers a crucial methodology for evaluating ecological drought, serving as a reference for developing effective terrestrial restoration strategies.

A novel AgCuTi brazing foil with a unique microstructure was developed, which could achieve strong vacuum brazing of Ti6Al4V (TC4) and sapphire. The brazing foil was composed of Ag solid solution (Ag(s,s)), Cu solid solution (Cu(s,s)), and layered Ti-rich phases, and had a low liquidus temperature of 790 °C and a narrow melting range of 16 °C, facilitating the defect-free joining of TC4 and sapphire. The sapphire/TC4 joint fabricated by using this novel AgCuTi brazing foil exhibited an outstanding average shear strength of up to 132.2 MPa, which was the highest value ever reported. The sapphire/TC4 joint had a characteristic structure, featuring a brazing seam reinforced by TiCu particles and a thin Ti3(Cu,Al)3O reaction layer of about 1.3 µm. The fracture mechanism of the sapphire/TC4 joint was revealed. The crack originated at the brazing seam with TiCu particles, then propagated through the Ti3(Cu,Al)3O reaction layer, detached the reaction layer from the sapphire, and finally penetrated into the sapphire. This study offers valuable insights into the design of active brazing alloys and reliable metal-ceramic bonding.

Introduction: The combination of neoadjuvant immunotherapy and chemotherapy (NICT) has become a common treatment regimen for locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). However, the safety and efficacy of radical gastrectomy following NICT (NICT-G) remain controversial. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors influencing postoperative complications (POCs) after NICT-G. Additionally, it aimed to construct a nomogram to provide a clinical reference for predicting POCs. Methods: This study included 177 patients who received NICT-G at the Chinese PLA General Hospital First Medical Center from January 2020 to January 2024. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression models were used to evaluate the risk factors influencing POCs, and a nomogram model was constructed. To evaluate the discrimination and accuracy of the nomogram model, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and the calibration curve were measured. Results: In 177 patients who received NICT-G, the pathological complete response and major pathological response rates were 15.8% and 45.2%, respectively, whereas the rates of the overall and severe treatment-related adverse events were 71.8% and 15.8%, respectively. In addition, 43 (24.3%) patients developed overall POCs (Clavien-Dindo classification ≥ II). Univariable and multivariable logistic analyses showed that age ≥70 years, greater estimated blood loss, platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR) ≤196, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) >1.33, non-R0 resection, and body mass index (BMI) < 18.5 kg/m2 were independent risk factors for overall POCs (p < 0.05). The nomogram model developed using the abovementioned variables showed that the AUC (95% confidence interval [CI]) was 0.808 (95% CI): 0.731-0.885 in predicting the POC risk. The calibration curves showed that the prediction curve of the nomogram was a good fit for the actual POCs (Hosmer-Lemeshow test: χ2 = 5.76, P = 0.451). Conclusion: The independent risk factors for overall POCs in the NICT-G were age ≥ 70 years, greater estimated blood loss, PLR ≤ 196, NLR > 1.33, non-R0 resection, and BMI < 18.5 kg/m2. The nomogram model developed based on the abovementioned indicators showed better accuracy in predicting the POC risk.

Common arterial grafts used in coronary artery bypass grafting include internal thoracic artery (ITA), radial artery (RA) and right gastroepiploic artery (RGA) grafts; of these, the ITA has the best clinical outcome. Here, by analyzing the single-cell transcriptome of different arterial grafts, we suggest optimization strategies for the RA and RGA based on the ITA as a reference. Compared with the ITA, the RA had more lipid-handling-related CD36+ endothelial cells. Vascular smooth muscle cells from the RGA were more susceptible to spasm, followed by those from the RA; comparison with the ITA suggested that potassium channel openers may counteract vasospasm. Fibroblasts from the RA and RGA highly expressed GDF10 and CREB5, respectively; both GDF10 and CREB5 are associated with extracellular matrix deposition. Cell-cell communication analysis revealed high levels of macrophage migration inhibitory factor signaling in the RA. Administration of macrophage migration inhibitory factor inhibitor to mice with partial carotid artery ligation blocked neointimal hyperplasia induced by disturbed flow. Modulation of identified targets may have protective effects on arterial grafts.
