RESUMO

Purpose: Accurate detection of microcalcifications ( µ Calcs ) is crucial for the early detection of breast cancer. Some clinical studies have indicated that digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) systems with a wide angular range have inferior µ Calc detectability compared with those with a narrow angular range. This study aims to (1) provide guidance for optimizing wide-angle (WA) DBT for improving µ Calcs detectability and (2) prioritize key optimization factors. Approach: An in-silico DBT pipeline was constructed to evaluate µ Calc detectability of a WA DBT system under various imaging conditions: focal spot motion (FSM), angular dose distribution (ADS), detector pixel pitch, and detector electronic noise (EN). Images were simulated using a digital anthropomorphic breast phantom inserted with 120 µ m µ Calc clusters. Evaluation metrics included the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the filtered channel observer and the area under the receiver operator curve (AUC) of multiple-reader multiple-case analysis. Results: Results showed that FSM degraded µ Calcs sharpness and decreased the SNR and AUC by 5.2% and 1.8%, respectively. Non-uniform ADS increased the SNR by 62.8% and the AUC by 10.2% for filtered backprojection reconstruction with a typical clinical filter setting. When EN decreased from 2000 to 200 electrons, the SNR and AUC increased by 21.6% and 5.0%, respectively. Decreasing the detector pixel pitch from 85 to 50 µ m improved the SNR and AUC by 55.6% and 7.5%, respectively. The combined improvement of a 50 µ m pixel pitch and EN200 was 89.2% in the SNR and 12.8% in the AUC. Conclusions: Based on the magnitude of impact, the priority for enhancing µ Calc detectability in WA DBT is as follows: (1) utilizing detectors with a small pixel pitch and low EN level, (2) allocating a higher dose to central projections, and (3) reducing FSM. The results from this study can potentially provide guidance for DBT system optimization in the future.

RESUMO

An optimization-based image reconstruction algorithm is developed for contrast enhanced digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) using dual-energy scanning. The algorithm minimizes directional total variation (TV) with a data discrepancy and non-negativity constraints. Iodinated contrast agent (ICA) imaging is performed by reconstructing images from dual-energy DBT data followed by weighted subtraction. Physical DBT data is acquired with a Siemens Mammomat scanner of a structured breast phantom with ICA inserts. Results are shown for both directional TV minimization and filtered back-projection for reference. It is seen that directional TV is able to substantially reduce depth blur for the ICA objects.

RESUMO

Background: In patients underwent fractional flow reserve (FFR) assessment, a noteworthy proportion of adverse events occur in vessels in which FFR has not been measured. However, the effect of these non-target vessel-related events on the evaluation of FFR-related benefits remains unknown. Methods and results: In this retrospective study, vessels subjected to FFR measurement were grouped as FFR-based approach and non-compliance with FFR based on whether they received FFR-based treatment. Using inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) to account for potential confounding, we investigated the association between compliance with FFR and 5-year target vessel failure (TVF) non-target vessel failure (NTVF) and vessel-oriented composite endpoints (VOCEs). Of the 1,119 vessels, 201 did not receive FFR-based treatment. After IPTW adjustment, a significantly lower hazard of TVF was observed in the FFR-based approach group (HR: 0.56; 95% CI: 0.34-0.92). While, the intergroup difference in hazard of NTVF (HR: 1.02; 95% CI: 0.45-2.31) and VOCEs (HR: 0.69; 95% CI: 0.45-1.05) were nonsignificant. Conclusions: In patients with CAD subjected to FFR, the FFR-based treatment yields a sustained clinical benefit in terms of the risks of target vessel-related events. The dilution of non-target vessel-related events renders the difference favoring the FFR-based approach nonsignificant.

RESUMO

The neurotoxicity of Semen Strychni has been reported recently in several clinical cases. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the role of HMGB1 in a model of neurotoxicity induced by Semen Strychni and to assess the potential alleviating effects of glycyrrhizic acid (GA), which is associated with the regulation of HMGB1 release. Forty-eight SD rats were intraperitoneally injected with Semen Strychni extract (175 mg/kg), followed by oral administration of GA (50 mg/kg) for four days. After treatment of SS and GA, neuronal degeneration, apoptosis, and necrosis were observed via histopathological examination. Inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α and IL-1ß), neurotransmitter associated enzymes (MAO and AChE), serum HMGB1, nuclear and cytoplasmic HMGB1/ph-HMGB1, and the interaction between PP2A, PKC, and HMGB1 were evaluated. The influence of the MAPK pathway was also examined. As a result, this neurotoxicity was characterized by neuronal degeneration and apoptosis, the induction of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and a reduction in neurotransmitter-metabolizing enzymes. In contrast, GA treatment significantly ameliorated the abovementioned effects and alleviated nerve injury. Furthermore, Semen Strychni promoted HMGB1 phosphorylation and its translocation between the nucleus and cytoplasm, thereby activating the NF-κB and MAPK pathways, initiating various inflammatory responses. Our experiments demonstrated that GA could partially reverse these effects. In summary, GA acid alleviated Semen Strychni-induced neurotoxicity, possibly by inhibiting HMGB1 phosphorylation and preventing its release from the cell.

RESUMO

Many different factors, such as species traits, socio-economic factors, geographical and environmental factors, can lead to specimen collection preference. This study aims to determine whether grassland specimen collection in China is preferred by species traits (i.e., plant height, flowering and fruiting period), environmental range (i.e., the temperature and precipitation range) and geographical range (i.e., distribution range and altitudinal range). Ordinary least squares models and phylogenetic generalized linear mixed models were used to analyze the relationships between specimen number and the explanatory variables. Random Forest models were then used to find the most parsimonious multivariate model. The results showed that interannual variation in specimen number between 1900 and 2020 was considerable. Specimen number of these species in southeast China was notably lower than that in northwest China. Environmental range and geographical range of species had significant positive correlations with specimen number. In addition, there were relatively weak but significant associations between specimen number and species trait (i.e., plant height and flowering and fruiting period). Random Forest models indicated that distribution range was the most important variable, followed by flowering and fruiting period, and altitudinal range. These findings suggest that future floristic surveys should pay more attention to species with small geographical range, narrow environmental range, short plant height, and short flowering and fruiting period. The correction of specimen collection preference will also make the results of species distribution model, species evolution and other works based on specimen data more accurate.

RESUMO

Crohn's disease (CD) and intestinal tuberculosis (ITB) share similar histopathological characteristics, and differential diagnosis can be a dilemma for pathologists. This study aimed to apply deep learning (DL) to analyze whole slide images (WSI) of surgical resection specimens to distinguish CD from ITB. Overall, 1973 WSI from 85 cases from 3 centers were obtained. The DL model was established in internal training and validated in external test cohort, evaluated by area under receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC). Diagnostic results of pathologists were compared with those of the DL model using DeLong's test. DL model had case level AUC of 0.886, 0.893 and slide level AUC of 0.954, 0.827 in training and test cohorts. Attention maps highlighted discriminative areas and top 10 features were extracted from CD and ITB. DL model's diagnostic efficiency (AUC = 0.886) was better than junior pathologists (*1 AUC = 0.701, P = 0.088; *2 AUC = 0.861, P = 0.788) and inferior to senior GI pathologists (*3 AUC = 0.910, P = 0.800; *4 AUC = 0.946, P = 0.507) in training cohort. In the test cohort, model (AUC = 0.893) outperformed senior non-GI pathologists (*5 AUC = 0.782, P = 0.327; *6 AUC = 0.821, P = 0.516). We developed a DL model for the classification of CD and ITB, improving pathological diagnosis accuracy effectively.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: In recent years, the ratio of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor for use in predicting preeclampsia has been explored extensively. Despite extensive research, available data on its effectiveness in predicting preeclampsia in twin pregnancies are limited and conflicting. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio in distinguishing cases with preeclampsia in twin pregnancies from healthy controls. DATA SOURCES: Studies that evaluated the use of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio in predicting preeclampsia were searched in PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases from inception to August 6, 2023, without language restriction. STUDY ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: The following population, exposure, comparators, outcomes, and study designs were included: women with twin pregnancies; an increased soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio with preeclampsia as the outcome; women without preeclampsia; a 2 × 2 diagnostic table, diagnostic accuracy data, and the incidence of preeclampsia; and prospective cohort studies and observational comparative studies, respectively. STUDY APPRAISAL AND SYNTHESIS METHODS: The quality of the included studies was evaluated. Key parameters, including the specificity, sensitivity, positive likelihood ratio, negative likelihood ratio, and diagnostic odds ratio, were calculated using the random- and fixed-effects models. In addition, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and the summary receiver operating characteristic curve were evaluated. RESULTS: A total of 7 studies were included, including 442 women with twin pregnancies (115 patients with preeclampsia and 327 controls without preeclampsia). The results highlighted the promising effectiveness of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio in predicting preeclampsia in twin pregnancies with a pooled specificity of 0.89 (95% confidence interval, 0.80-0.95), a sensitivity of 0.84 (95% confidence interval, 0.73-0.93), a positive likelihood ratio of 32.76 (95% confidence interval, 12.82-83.74), and a negative likelihood ratio of 0.03 (95% confidence interval, 0.01-0.08). The combined diagnostic odds ratio was 35.72 (95% confidence interval, 12.92-98.76), and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was 0.92. CONCLUSION: These collective findings underscore the potential of the soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 to placental growth factor ratio as an accurate marker for identifying preeclampsia among women with twin pregnancies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) associated with cognitive impairment (CI) is acknowledged. However, the underlying pathogenesis and involvement of the immune system remain unclear. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the alterations in immune cells, cytokines, and GABA+ levels in NMOSD patients with cognitive deficits. METHODS: Thirty-eight NMOSD patients and 38 healthy controls (HCs) were included. NMOSD patients were stratified as NMOSD-CI and NMOSD-CP groups. The difference in cognitive functions, Tfh and cytokines, and GABA+ levels were assessed, and their correlations were calculated. RESULTS: NMOSD-CI patients showed worse performance on all cognitive tests, and the percentage of circulating follicular helper T cells (cTfh) was significantly elevated. The frequency of cTfh was positively and negatively correlated with Stroop-A and AVLT long-delayed scores, respectively. IL-21 was remarkably higher in NMOSD-CI and NMOSD-CP. The level of GABA+ in medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) was significantly decreased in NMOSD-CI and was proved positively and negatively correlated with Symbol Digit Modalities Test and the frequency of circulating Tfh cells, respectively. CONCLUSION: In NMOSD-CI patients, all cognitive domains were impacted, , while GABA+ levels in mPFC were decreased. GABA+ levels in NMOSD-CI were negatively correlated with the frequency of cTfh, suggesting the underlying coupling mechanism between immune responses and neurotransmitter metabolism in CI in NMOSD patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the detection rate of adrenal tumors has increased, but it is unclear whether smoking and alcohol drinking are risk factors for benign adrenal tumors. The objective of this study is to employ Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the causal relationship between smoking, alcohol drinking and susceptibility to benign adrenal tumors. METHODS: We acquired large-scale data from publicly accessible databases on genome-wide association studies (GWAS) pertaining to smoking, alcohol drinking and benign adrenal tumors. A total of 11 sets of instrumental variables (IVs) and 281 associated single nucleotide polymorphic (SNP) loci were identified. The Mendelian randomization analyses were conducted using inverse variance weighting (IVW), MR-Egger regression and weighted median estimation (WME) methods, in addition to sensitivity analyses. RESULTS: There is no causal relationship between smoking status, alcohol drinking status, alcohol intake frequency, alcohol taken with meals, alcohol consumption and benign adrenal tumors, while pack years of smoking and cigarettes per day are risk factors for benign adrenal tumors. The IVW analysis revealed that both the pack years of smoking and cigarettes per day were positively associated with an increased risk of benign adrenal tumors (OR = 2.853, 95%CI = 1.384-5.878, p = 0.004; OR = 1.543, 95%CI = 1.147-2.076, p = 0.004). Two SNPs (rs8042849 in the analysis of pack years of smoking and rs8034191 in the analysis of cigarettes per day) significantly drove the observed causal effects. CONCLUSION: Two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis showed a causal effect between smoking but not alcohol consumption and benign adrenal tumors.

RESUMO

AIMS: Schaumann bodies were first identified in sarcoidosis by Dr Schaumann in 1941. They were also detected in 10% of Crohn's disease (CD) cases in a study involving patients with surgically resected CD. However, the characteristics and significance of Schaumann bodies in CD have yet to be fully elucidated. This study aimed to determine the pathological features and diagnostic significance of Schaumann bodies in various bowel diseases. METHODS: Overall, 278 bowel specimens were collected from patients with CD, intestinal tuberculosis, ulcerative colitis, intestinal schistosomiasis, diverticulosis and idiopathic mesenteric vasculopathy. The frequency, pathology and clinical features of patients with Schaumann bodies were studied. RESULTS: Schaumann bodies were present exclusively in CD (27.0%, 38 of 141) and were not detected in other intestinal diseases within the series. In CD, Schaumann bodies were deposited along the myenteric plexus of the muscularis propria (84.2%, 32 of 38). These bodies were small (diameter: 60.3±32.7 µm) and exhibited a low density in the intestinal wall (1.1±0.4 per low-power field). The majority were located within the cytoplasm of multinucleated giant cells (84.2%, 32 of 38) and were not found within or adjacent to granulomas. Notably, the number of female patients with CD and Schaumann bodies was higher than that of males. CONCLUSION: Schaumann bodies are common in resected CD specimens, and their characteristic deposition pattern may serve as a diagnostic indication for CD.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To examine the associations of chronic kidney disease (CKD) with dynamic functional impairment among older Chinese adults. DESIGN: This was a prospective longitudinal study. SETTING: Data were derived from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study. PARTICIPANTS: All adults aged ≥60 years were potentially eligible. This study included 2970 participants. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: CKD was defined as an estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/min/1.73 m2. Functional performances included instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) and basic activities of daily living (BADL), which were measured using six daily activities, including eating, dressing, transferring, using the toilet, bathing and continence, and eight daily activities, including visiting neighbours, shopping, cooking, washing clothes, walking 1 km, lifting 5 kg, crouching and standing up three times and taking public transportation, respectively. RESULTS: This study included 2970 participants, including 988 (33.60%) participants with CKD. Participants with CKD had higher IADL scores than those without CKD (ß=0.895, 95% CI: 0.761 to 1.029). Furthermore, there was a significant linear trend in the association of CKD severity with the IADL score (p<0.001). Similarly, CKD was significantly associated with higher BADL scores (ß=0.067, 95% CI: 0.017 to 0.118). However, only participants with moderate and advanced CKD had a higher BADL score (ß=0.088 and 0.152, 95% CI: 0.006 to 0.171 and 0.019 to 0.286, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: CKD was associated with worse functional impairment. Furthermore, there was a significant linear trend in the association of the severity of CKD with the IADL score. However, only participants with moderate and advanced CKD had higher BADL scores.

RESUMO

The lack of labeled training samples restricts the improvement of Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Image (HRSI) classification accuracy based on deep learning methods. In order to improve the HRSI classification accuracy when there are few training samples, a Lightweight 3D Dense Autoencoder Network (L3DDAN) is proposed. Structurally, the L3DDAN is designed as a stacked autoencoder which consists of an encoder and a decoder. The encoder is a hybrid combination of 3D convolutional operations and 3D dense block for extracting deep features from raw data. The decoder composed of 3D deconvolution operations is designed to reconstruct data. The L3DDAN is trained by unsupervised learning without labeled samples and supervised learning with a small number of labeled samples, successively. The network composed of the fine-tuned encoder and trained classifier is used for classification tasks. The extensive comparative experiments on three benchmark HRSI datasets demonstrate that the proposed framework with fewer trainable parameters can maintain superior performance to the other eight state-of-the-art algorithms when there are only a few training samples. The proposed L3DDAN can be applied to HRSI classification tasks, such as vegetation classification. Future work mainly focuses on training time reduction and applications on more real-world datasets.

RESUMO

Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus L.) are a global popular vegetable and are widely planted worldwide. However, cucumbers are susceptible to various infectious diseases such as Fusarium and Verticillium wilt, downy and powdery mildew, and bacterial soft rot, which results in substantial economic losses. Grafting is an effective approach widely used to control these diseases. The present study investigated the role of wax and the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway in black-seed pumpkin rootstock-grafted cucumbers. Our results showed that grafted cucumbers had a significantly higher cuticular wax contents on the fruit surface than that of self-rooted cucumbers at all stages observed. A total of 1132 differently expressed genes (DEGs) were detected in grafted cucumbers compared with self-rooted cucumbers. Pathway enrichment analysis revealed that phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, phenylalanine metabolism, plant circadian rhythm, zeatin biosynthesis, and diterpenoid biosynthesis were significantly enriched. In this study, 1 and 13 genes involved in wax biosynthesis and the phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathway, respectively, were up-regulated in grafted cucumbers. Our data indicated that the up-regulated genes in the wax and phenylpropanoid biosynthesis pathways may contribute to disease resistance in rootstock-grafted cucumbers, which provides promising targets for enhancing disease resistance in cucumbers by genetic manipulation.

RESUMO

Phosphorus utilization by crop plants is often limited, thereby resulting in large accumulations of residual phosphorus fertilizer in the soil. Trichoderma fungi function as natural decomposition agents that can contribute to increasing decomposition and promoting nutrient absorption in plants. In this study, we developed a novel fertilizer application strategy that reduces phosphate fertilizer and increases Trichoderma and examined its effects on the growth, nutrient absorption, and fruit quality of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.). We compared the efficacies of eight treatments: P100 = standard dose application of phosphorus fertilizer; P85 = 85% dose; P70 = 70% dose; P0 = no phosphorus fertilizer; and the TP100, TP85, TP70, and TP0 treatments, in which a Trichoderma mixture was added to the P100, P85, P70, and P0 treatments, respectively. The combined fertilizer application strategy stimulated plant growth, increased chlorophyll content, improved yield, and enhanced nutrient absorption. Additionally, the strategy improved pepper fruit quality by increasing the contents of soluble proteins, soluble sugars, vitamin C, capsaicin, and capsanthin. A comprehensive analysis indicated that the TP85 treatment was the optimal fertilization regime for pepper. This study provides a novel fertilizer application strategy for pepper that not only ensures good plant growth but also protects soil health.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is a common malignant tumor with an unsatisfactory prognosis. This study aims to identify the expression patterns of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs), develop a prognostic model, and predict immunological profiles. METHODS: First, we identified differentially expressed DRGs in TCGA-KIRC cohort and analyzed their mutational profiles, methylation levels, and interaction networks. Subsequently, we identified disulfidptosis-associated molecular subtypes and investigated their prognostic and immunological characteristics. Simultaneously, a disulfidptosis-related prognostic signature (DRPS) was developed using a two-stage stacking framework consisting of 5 machine learning models. The effect of DRPS on immune cell infiltration levels was explored using seven different algorithms, and the status and function of T cells for distinct risk-score groups were evaluated based on T cell exhaustion and dysfunction scores. Additionally, the study also examined differences in clinical characteristics and therapy efficacy between high- and low-risk groups. RESULTS: We found two disulfidptosis-associated clusters, one of which had a poor prognosis and was linked to high immune cell infiltration but impaired T cell function. DRPS showed excellent predictive performance in all four cohorts and could accurately identified disulfidptosis-related molecular subtypes. The DRPS-based risk score was positively associated with poor prognosis, malignant pathological features, high immune cell infiltration levels, and T cell exhaustion or dysfunction, and better respond to immunotherapy and targeted therapy. Additionally, we have identified a close association between ISG20 and disulfidptosis as well as tumor immunity. CONCLUSION: Our study identified distinct disulfidptosis-related subtypes in ccRCC patients, and constructed the highly accurate and robust DRPS based on an ensemble learning framework, which has critical reference value in clinical decision-making and individualized treatment. And this work also revealed ISG20 exhibits promising potential as a therapeutic target for ccRCC.

RESUMO

p53-like bladder cancer (BLCA) is a bladder cancer subtype that is resistant to cisplatin-based chemotherapy. The ideal treatment modality for such tumors remains poorly defined, and immunotherapy seems to be a potential approach. Therefore, it is significant to understand the risk stratification of p53-like BLCA and identify novel therapeutic targets. ITIH5 is a member of the inter-α-trypsin inhibitory (ITI) gene family, and the effect of ITIH5 on p53-like BLCA remains elusive. In this study, TCGA data and in vitro experiments were used to explore the prognostic value of ITIH5 for p53-like BLCA and its effect on tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. The impact of ITIH5 on the level of immune cell infiltration was explored using seven different algorithms, and the predictive value of ITIH5 on the efficacy of immunotherapy for p53-like BLCA was explored in combination with an independent immunotherapy cohort. The results showed that patients with high ITIH5 expression had a better prognosis, and overexpression of ITIH5 could inhibit the proliferation, migration, and invasion of tumor cells. Two or more algorithms consistently showed that ITIH5 promoted the infiltration of antitumor immune cells, such as B cells, CD4+ T cells, and CD8+ T cells. In addition, ITIH5 expression was positively correlated with the expression levels of many immune checkpoints, and the high ITIH5 expression group showed better response rates to PD-L1 and CTLA-4 therapies. In short, ITIH5 is a predictor of prognosis and the immunotherapy response for p53-like BLCA and is correlated with tumor immunity.

RESUMO

Three-dimensional ultrasound imaging has many advantages over 2-D imaging such as more comprehensive tissue evaluation and less operator dependence. However, developing a low-cost and accessible 3-D ultrasound solution with high volume rate and imaging quality remains a challenging task. Recently, we proposed a 3-D ultrasound imaging technique: fast acoustic steering via tilting electromechanical reflectors (FASTER), which uses a fast-tilting acoustic reflector to steer ultrafast plane waves elevationally to achieve high-volume-rate 3-D imaging with conventional 1-D transducers. However, the initial FASTER implementation requires a water tank for acoustic wave conduction and cannot be conveniently used for regular handheld scanning. To address these limitations, here, we developed a novel ultrasound probe clip-on device that encloses a fast-tilting reflector, a redirecting reflector, and an acoustic wave conduction medium. The new FASTER 3-D imaging device can be easily attached to or removed from clinical ultrasound transducers, allowing rapid transformation from 2-D to 3-D imaging. In vitro B-mode studies demonstrated that the proposed method provided comparable imaging quality to conventional, mechanical-translation-based 3-D imaging while offering a much faster volume rate (e.g., 300 versus  âˆ¼  10 Hz). We also demonstrated 3-D power Doppler (PD) and 3-D super-resolution ultrasound localization microscopy (ULM) with the FASTER device. An in vivo imaging study showed that the FASTER device could clearly visualize the 3-D anatomy of the basilic vein. These results suggest that the newly developed redirecting reflector and the clip-on device could overcome key hurdles for future clinical translation of the FASTER 3-D imaging technology.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: EAU guidelines strongly recommend kidney sparing surgery (KSS) as the primary treatment option for the low-risk UTUC patients. While there are few reports involving the KSS treated for the high-risk counterparts, especially the ureteral resection. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of the segmental ureterectomy (SU) for the patients with high-risk ureteral carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We included 20 patients from May 2017 to December 2021 who underwent segmental ureterectomy (SU) in Henan Provincial People's Hospital. The overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS) were evaluated. Besides, the ECOG scores and postoperative complications were also included. RESULTS: As of December 2022, the mean OS was 62.1months (95%CI:55.6-68.6months) and the mean PFS was 45.0months (95%CI:35.9-54.1months). The median OS and median PFS were not reached. The 3-year OS rate was 70% and the 3-year PFS rate was 50%. The percentage of Clavien I and II complications was 15%. CONCLUSION: For the selected patients with high-risk ureteral carcinoma, the efficacy and safety of segmental ureterectomy were satisfactory. But we still need to conduct prospective or randomized study to validate the value of SU in patients with high-risk ureteral carcinoma.

RESUMO

In this work, we describe mostly analytical work related to a novel approach to parameter identification for a two-variable Lotka-Volterra (LV) system. Specifically, this approach is qualitative, in that we aim not to determine precise values of model parameters but rather to establish relationships among these parameter values and properties of the trajectories that they generate, based on a small number of available data points. In this vein, we prove a variety of results about the existence, uniqueness, and signs of model parameters for which the trajectory of the system passes exactly through a set of three given data points, representing the smallest possible data set needed for identification of model parameter values. We find that in most situations such a data set determines these values uniquely; we also thoroughly investigate the alternative cases, which result in nonuniqueness or even nonexistence of model parameter values that fit the data. In addition to results about identifiability, our analysis provides information about the long-term dynamics of solutions of the LV system directly from the data without the necessity of estimating specific parameter values.

RESUMO

Primary thyroid adenoid cystic carcinoma (PTACC) is an extremely rare type of mucin-secreting adenocarcinoma. Currently, it is difficult to diagnose, and it lacks standard treatment protocols. We report the case of a 53-year-old female patient with PTACC who underwent additional intensity-modulated radiotherapy 1 month after surgical treatment with an uneventful course. No invasion or distant metastasis was detected at the 7-month follow-up after radiotherapy, and the prognosis was favorable. In this case, herein, we have summarized the diagnostic features of the disease and proposed that postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy can significantly improve the patient's prognosis. Finally, we further confirmed the important role of radiotherapy in PTACC by reviewing relevant literature, which may provide clinicians with valuable treatment experience.
