RESUMO

The presence of "viable but nonculturable" (VBNC) state and bacterial antibiotic resistance (BAR) both pose significant threats to the safety of drinking water. However, limited data was available that explicitly addressed the contribution of bacterial VBNC state in the maintenance and propagation of BAR. Here, the VBNC state induction and resuscitation of two antibiotic-resistant Escherichia coli K12 strains, one carrying multidrug-resistant plasmid (RP4 E. coli) and the other with chromosomal mutation (RIF E. coli) were characterized by subjecting them to different doses of UV/chlorine. The results illustrated that the induction, resuscitation, and associated mechanisms of VBNC ARB exhibit variations based on resistance determinants. RP4 E. coli exhibited a higher susceptibility to enter VBNC state compared to the RIF E. coli., and most VBNC state and resuscitated RP4 E. coli retained original antibiotic resistance. While, reverse mutation in the rpoB gene was observed in VBNC state and recovered RIF E. coli strains induced by high doses of UV/chlorine treatment, leading to the loss of rifampicin resistance. According to RT-qPCR results, ARGs conferring efflux pumps appeared to play a more significant role in the VBNC state formation of RP4 E. coli and the down-regulation of rpoS gene enhanced the speed at which this plasmid-carrying ARB entered into the dormant state. As to RIF E. coli, the induction of VBNC state was supposed to be regulated by the combination of general stress response, SOS response, stringent response, and TA system. Above all, this study highlights that ARB could become VBNC state during UV/chlorine treatments and retain, in some cases, their ability to spread ARGs. Importantly, compared with chromosomal mutation-mediated ARB, both VBNC and resuscitated state ARB that carries multidrug-resistant plasmids poses more serious health risks. Our study provides insights into the relationship between the VBNC state and the propagation of BAR in drinking water systems.

RESUMO

Multimodal medical image fusion fuses images with different modalities and provides more comprehensive and integrated diagnostic information. However, current multimodal image fusion methods cannot effectively model non-local contextual feature relationships, and due to direct aggregation of the extracted features, they introduce unnecessary implicit noise into the fused images. To solve the above problems, this paper proposes a novel dual-branch hybrid fusion network called EMOST for medical image fusion that combines a convolutional neural network (CNN) and a transformer. First, to extract more comprehensive feature information, an effective feature extraction module is proposed, which consists of an efficient dense block (EDB), an attention module (AM), a multiscale convolution block (MCB), and three sparse transformer blocks (STB). Meanwhile, a lightweight efficient model (EMO) is used in the feature extraction module to exploit the efficiency of the CNN with the dynamic modeling capability of the transformer. Additionally, the STB is incorporated to adaptively maintain the most useful self-attention values and remove as much redundant noise as possible by developing the top-k selection operator. Moreover, a novel feature fusion rule is designed to efficiently integrate the features. Experiments are conducted on four types of multimodal medical images. The proposed method shows higher performance than the art-of-the-state methods in terms of quantitative and qualitative evaluations. Background: Both early detection and treatment for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have positively affected prognosis. A microRNA, miRNA-21 (miR-21), may have additional diagnostic potential for ACS among the others. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the potential role of miR-21 in identifying ACS. Methods: PubMed, EMBASE and CENTRAL databases were searched up to March 17, 2024, for case-control and cohort studies assessing the diagnostic value of circulating miR-21 in patients with ACS. The search was limited to studies published in either English or Chinese. The primary outcome was the discriminative ability to circulate miR-21 for ACS, represented by the area under the standard receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) analysis. Meta-analyses combined the AUCs using a random-effects model. Heterogeneity among the studies was detected by the I2 and Q statistics. The quality of the studies included was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies-2. Publication bias analysis was assessed constructing by the Egger's test (PROSPERO: CRD42020209424). Results: Eleven case-control studies containing a total of 2,413 subjects with 1,236 ACS cases and 1,177 controls were included. The mean age of participants in these studies ranges between 51.0 and 69.0 years. The meta-analysis showed an overall pooled AUC of 0.779 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.715-0.843], with high heterogeneity noted between the studies (Q statistic =190.64, I2=94.23%, P<0.001). In subgroup analyses according to the subtypes of ACS, a pooled AUC of 0.767 (95% CI: 0.648-0.887) was derived from the studies focused on acute myocardial infarction cases only. The pooled AUC for unstable angina was 0.770 (95% CI: 0.718-0.822). In subgroup analyses according to the types of control groups, pooled AUC for ACS versus healthy controls was 0.779 (95% CI: 0.715-0.843), whereas the pooled AUC for ACS versus unhealthy controls was 0.740 (95% CI: 0.645-0.836). The quality assessment showed that the studies' overall quality was moderate. No evidence of publication bias was noted (P=0.49). Conclusions: Circulating miR-21 shows abilities to differentiate between ACS and non-ACS, suggesting its potential as a novel diagnostic biomarker for ACS. However, the evidence is weakened by high heterogeneity observed among the studies. Further research is essential before it can be applied in clinical practice.

Distinguishing Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) lesions from ordinary thyroid tissues is difficult with ultrasound images. Challenges in achieving high performance of HT ultrasound image classification include the low resolution, blurred features and large area of irrelevant noise. To address these problems, we propose a Feature-level Boosting Ensemble Network (FBENet) for HT ultrasound image classification. Specifically, to capture the features of suspicious HT lesions efficiently, an Ensemble Feature Boosting Module (EFBM) is introduced into the feature-level ensemble to boost the blurred features. Then, the spatial attention mechanism is adopted in backbone models to improve the feature focusing performance and representation ability. Furthermore, feature-level ensemble technique is employed in the training process to achieve more comprehensive feature representation ability. Experimentally, FBENet was trained on 6,503 HT ultrasound images, and tested on 1,626 HT ultrasound images with 82.92% accuracy and 89.24% AUC on average.

The plant microbiome plays a crucial role in facilitating plant growth through enhancing nutrient cycling, acquisition and transport, as well as alleviating stresses induced by nutrient limitations. Despite its significance, the relative importance of common agronomic practices, such as nitrogenous fertilizer, in shaping the plant microbiome across different cultivars remains unclear. This study investigated the dynamics of bacterial and fungal communities in leaf, root, rhizosphere, and bulk soil in response to nitrogenous fertilizer across ten sorghum varieties, using 16S rRNA and ITS gene amplicon sequencing, respectively. Our results revealed that nitrogen addition had a greater impact on sorghum-associated microbial communities compared to cultivar. Nitrogen addition significantly reduced bacterial diversity in all compartments except for the root endophytes. However, N addition significantly increased fungal diversity in both rhizosphere and bulk soils, while significantly reducing fungal diversity in the root endophytes. Furthermore, N addition significantly altered the community composition of bacteria and fungi in all four compartments, while cultivars only affected the community composition of root endosphere bacteria and fungi. Network analysis revealed that fertilization significantly reduced microbial network complexity and increased fungal-related network complexity. Collectively, this study provides empirical evidence that sorghum-associated microbiomes are predominantly shaped by nitrogenous fertilizer rather than by cultivars, suggesting that consistent application of nitrogenous fertilizer will ultimately alter plant-associated microbiomes regardless of cultivar selection.

Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to identify predictors of severe white matter hyperintensity (WMH) with obesity (SWO), and to build a prediction model for screening obese people with severe WMH without Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination. Patients subjects and methods: From September 2020 to October 2021, 650 patients with WMH were recruited consecutively. The subjects were divided into two groups, SWO group and non-SWO group. Univariate and Logistic regression analysis were was applied to explore the potential predictors of SWO. The Youden index method was adopted to determine the best cut-off value in the establishment of the prediction model of SWO. Each parameter had two options, low and high. The score table of the prediction model and nomogram based on the logistic regression were constructed. Of the 650 subjects, 487 subjects (75%) were randomly assigned to the training group and 163 subjects (25%) to the validation group. By resampling the area under the curve (AUC) of the subject's operating characteristics and calibration curves 1,000 times, nomogram performance was verified. A decision curve analysis (DCA) was used to evaluate the nomogram's clinical usefulness. Results: Logistic regression demonstrated that hypertension, uric acid (UA), complement 3 (C3) and Interleukin 8 (IL-8) were independent risk factors for SWO. Hypertension, UA, C3, IL-8, folic acid (FA), fasting C-peptide (FCP) and eosinophil could be used to predict the occurrence of SWO in the prediction models, with a good diagnostic performance, Areas Under Curves (AUC) of Total score was 0.823 (95% CI: 0.760-0.885, p < 0.001), sensitivity of 60.0%, specificity of 91.4%. In the development group, the nomogram's AUC (C statistic) was 0.829 (95% CI: 0.760-0.899), while in the validation group, it was 0.835 (95% CI: 0.696, 0.975). In both the development and validation groups, the calibration curves following 1,000 bootstraps showed a satisfactory fit between the observed and predicted probabilities. DCA showed that the nomogram had great clinical utility. Conclusion: Hypertension, UA, C3, IL-8, FA, FCP and eosinophil models had the potential to predict the incidence of SWO. When the total score of the model exceeded 9 points, the risk of SWO would increase significantly, and the nomogram enabled visualization of the patient's WMH risk. The application prospect of our models mainly lied in the convenient screening of SWO without MRI examination in order to detect SWO and control the WMH hazards early.

BACKGROUND: Identifying treatment targets for sarcopenia is a public health concern. This study aimed to examine the association of nocturnal sleep duration and midday napping with the presence of sarcopenia in middle-aged and older adults, utilizing data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study in 2011 and 2015. METHODS: A sum of 7,926 individuals (≥40 years) took part in this study. Sarcopenia was diagnosed according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia. A self-reported questionnaire was used to collect data on nocturnal sleep duration and midday napping. Nocturnal sleep duration was categorized into three groups: short sleepers (<6 h), normal sleepers (6-8 h), and long sleepers (>8 h). Midday napping was coded as a dichotomous outcome (yes/no). RESULTS: The incidence of sarcopenia was 5.3% during the 4-year follow-up. Short sleep duration (<6 h) was substantially linked to an increased incidence of sarcopenia (OR: 1.50, 95% CI: 1.21-1.87) as compared to nocturnal sleep length (6-8 h). Adults with midday napping had a lower risk of developing sarcopenia than non-nappers (OR: 0.78, 95% CI: 0.63-0.95). We further found that short sleepers with midday napping did not have a significantly higher risk of subsequent diagnosis of sarcopenia compared to normal sleepers without midday napping. CONCLUSION: These findings imply that short sleep duration in middle-aged and older persons is related to an increased incidence of sarcopenia. However, the adverse effect of short sleep duration on sarcopenia can be compensated by midday napping.

Purpose: Determining the impact of air gap errors on the skin dose in postoperative breast cancer radiotherapy under dynamic intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) techniques. Methods: This was a retrospective study that involved 55 patients who underwent postoperative radiotherapy following modified radical mastectomy. All plans employed tangential IMRT, with a prescription dose of 50 Gy, and bolus added solely to the chest wall. Simulated air gap depth errors of 2 mm, 3 mm, and 5 mm were introduced at depression or inframammary fold areas on the skin, resulting in the creation of air gaps named Air2, Air3, and Air5. Utilizing a multivariable GEE, the average dose (Dmean) of the local skin was determined to evaluate its relationship with air gap volume and the lateral beam's average angle (AALB). Additionally, an analysis was conducted on the impact of gaps on local skin. Results: When simulating an air gap depth error of 2 mm, the average Dmean in plan2 increased by 0.46 Gy compared to the initial plan (planO) (p < .001). For the 3-mm air gap, the average Dmean of plan3 was 0.51 Gy higher than that of planO (p < .001). When simulating the air gap as 5 mm, the average Dmean of plan5 significantly increased by 0.59 Gy compared to planO (p < .001). The TCP results showed a similar trend to those of Dmean. As the depth of air gap error increases, NTCP values also gradually rise. The linear regression of the multivariable GEE equation indicates that the volume of air gaps and the AALB are strong predictors of Dmean. Conclusion: With small irregular air gap errors simulated in 55 patients, the values of skin's Dmean, TCP, and NTCP increased. A multivariable linear GEE regression model may effectively explain the impact of air gap volume and AALB on the local skin.

RESUMO

Micro-/nanoplastic contamination in agricultural soils raises concerns on agroecosystems and poses potential health risks. Some of agricultural soils have received significant amounts of micro-/nanoplastics (MNPs) through plastic mulch film and biosolid applications. However, a comprehensive understanding of the MNP impacts on soils and plants remains elusive. The interaction between soil particles and MNPs is an extremely complex issue due to the different properties and heterogeneity of soils and the diverse characteristics of MNPs. Moreover, MNPs are a class of relatively new anthropogenic pollutants that may negatively affect plants and food. Herein, we presented a comprehensive review of the impacts of MNPs on the properties of soil and the growth of plants. We also discussed different strategies for mitigating or eliminating MNP contamination. Moreover, perspectives for future research on MNP contamination in the agricultural soils are also highlighted.

Reservoir flood control scheduling is a challenging optimization task, particularly due to the complexity of various constraints. This paper proposes an innovative algorithm design approach to address this challenge. Combining the basic walrus optimization algorithm with the adaptive ε-constraint method and introducing the SPM chaotic mapping for population initialization, spiral search strategy, and local enhancement search strategy based on Cauchy mutation and reverse learning significantly enhances the algorithm's optimization performance. On this basis, innovate an adaptive approach ε A New Algorithm for Constraints and Multi Strategy Optimization Improvement (ε-IWOA). To validate the performance of the ε-IWOA algorithm, 24 constrained optimization test functions are used to test its optimization capabilities and effectiveness in solving constrained optimization problems. Experimental results demonstrate that the ε-IWOA algorithm exhibits excellent optimization ability and stable performance. Taking the Taolinkou Reservoir, Daheiting Reservoir, and Panjiakou Reservoir in the middle and lower reaches of the Luanhe River Basin as a case study, this paper applies the ε-IWOA algorithm to practical reservoir scheduling problems by constructing a three-reservoir flood control scheduling system with Luanxian as the control point. A comparative analysis is conducted with the ε-WOA, ε-DE and ε-PSO (particle swarm optimization) algorithms.The experimental results indicate that ε-IWOA algorithm performs the best in optimization, with the occupied flood control capacity of the three reservoirs reaching 89.32%, 90.02%, and 80.95%, respectively. The control points in Luan County can reduce the peak by 49%.This provides a practical and effective solution method for reservoir optimization scheduling models. This study offers new ideas and solutions for flood control optimization scheduling of reservoir groups, contributing to the optimization and development of reservoir scheduling work.

This study aims to investigate the component variations and spatial distribution of ginsenosides in Panax quinquefolium roots during repeated steaming and drying. Ultra performance liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS) was employed to identify the ginsenosides in the root extract. Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging(MALDI-MSI) was employed to visualize the spatial distribution and spatiotemporal changes of prototype ginsenosides and metabolites in P. quinquefolium roots. The UPLC results showed that 90 ginsenosides were identified during the steaming process of the roots, and polar ginsenosides were converted into low polar or non-polar ginsenosides. The content of prototype ginsenosides decreased, while that of rare ginsenosides increased, which included 20(S/R)-ginsenoside Rg_3, 20(S/R)-ginsenoside Rh_2, and ginsenosides Rk_1, Rg_5, Rs_5, and Rs_4. MALDI-MSI results showed that ginsenosides were mainly distributed in the epidermis and phloem. As the steaming times increased, ginsenosides were transported to the xylem and medulla. This study provides fundamental information for revealing the changes of biological activity and pharmacological effect of P. quinquefolium roots that are caused by repeated steaming and drying and gives a reference for expanding the application scope of this herbal medicine.

To understand the genome-wide information of the GRF family genes in broomcorn millet and their expression profile in the vegetative meristems, bioinformatic methods and transcriptome sequencing were used to analyze the characteristics, physical and chemical properties, phylogenetic relationship, chromosome distribution, gene structure, cis-acting elements and expression profile in stem meristem for the GRF family members. The results showed that the GRF gene family of millet contains 21 members, and the PmGRF gene is unevenly distributed on 12 chromosomes. The lengths of PmGRF proteins vary from 224 to 618 amino acids, and the isoelectric points are between 4.93-9.69. Each member of the family has 1-4 introns and 2-5 exons. The protein PmGRF13 is localized in both the nucleus and chloroplast, and the rest PmGRF proteins are located in the nucleus. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the 21 GRF genes were divided into 4 subfamilies (A,B,C and D) in broomcorn millet. The analysis of cis-acting elements showed that there were many cis-acting elements involved in light response, hormone response, drought induction, low temperature response and other environmental stress responses in the 2000 bp sequence upstream of the GRF genes. Transcriptome sequencing and qRT-PCR analyses showed that the expression levels of PmGRF3 and PmGRF12 in the dwarf variety Zhang778 were significantly higher than those of the tall variety Longmi12 in the internode and node meristems at the jointing stage, while the expression patterns of PmGRF4, PmGRF16 and PmGRF21 were reverse. In addition, the expression levels of PmGRF2 and PmGRF5 in the internode of Zhang778 were significantly higher than Longmi12. The other GRF genes were not or insignificantly expressed. These results indicated that seven genes, PmGRF2, PmGRF3, PmGRF4, PmGRF5, PmGRF12, PmGRF16 and PmGRF21, were related to the formation of plant height in broomcorn millet.

Sperm-associated antigen 5 (SPAG5), also known as Astrin, was previously demonstrated as a biomarker for cellular resistance to major breast cancer therapies, including chemo-, endocrine- and targeted therapy. However, the contribution of SPAG5 to anthracycline- and taxane-based chemotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains controversial. In the present study, the SPAG5 knockout cell model was established by using clustered regularly interspaced palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) system in MDA-MB-231 and BT549 TNBC cell lines. The knockout of SPAG5 was confirmed on both gene and protein levels using genomic PCR, DNA sequencing and western blotting. The functional loss of SPAG5 was determined by colony-formation assay. SPAG5-regulated doxorubicin- and docetaxel-resistance was assessed by MTT and apoptosis assays. The results indicated that all the SPAG5 knockout MDA-MB-231 and BT549 clones were biallelic, where one allele was replaced by the donor template, and the other allele had the same "T" insertion (indel) adjacent to the cutting sites of gRNAs at the exon 1 boundary, irrespective of the gRNAs and cell lines. The locus of indel interrupted the SPAG5 transcription by damaging the GT-AG mRNA processing rule. Deletion of SPAG5 decreased clonogenicity in both MDA-MB-231 and BT549 cells. SPAG5 was able to regulate the resistance and the drug-induced apoptosis of both doxorubicin and docetaxel. In conclusion, recombinant plasmid-based CRISPR-Cas9 technology can be used to delete the SPAG5 gene in the TNBC cell lines. SPAG5 has an important role in regulating cell proliferation and doxorubicin- and docetaxel-resistance in MDA-MB-231 and BT549 cells.

Purpose.The dose hotspot areas in hypofractionated whole-breast irradiation (WBI) greatly increase the risk of acute skin toxicity because of the anatomical peculiarities of the breast. In this study, we presented several novel planning strategies that integrate multiple sub-planning target volumes (sub-PTVs), field secondary placement, and RapidPlan models for right-sided hypofractionated WBI.Methods.A total of 35 cases of WBI with a dose of 42.5 Gy for PTVs using tangential intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) were selected. Both PTVs were planned for simultaneous treatment using the original manual multiple sub-PTV plan (OMMP) and the original manual single-PTV plan (OMSP). The manual field secondary placement multiple sub-PTV plan (m-FSMP) with multiple objects on the original PTV and the manual field secondary placement single-objective plan (m-FSSP) were initially planned, which were distribution-based of V105 (volume receiving 105% of the prescription dose). In addition, two RapidPlan-based plans were developed, including the RapidPlan-based multiple sub-PTVs plan (r-FSMP) and the RapidPlan-based single-PTV plan (r-FSSP). Dosimetric parameters of the plans were compared, and V105 was evaluated using multivariate analysis to determine how it was related to the volume of PTV and the interval of lateral beam angles (ILBA).Results.The lowest mean V105 (5.64 ± 6.5%) of PTV was observed in m-FSMP compared to other manual plans. Upon validation, r-FSSP demonstrated superior dosimetric quality for OAR compared to the two other manual planning methods, except for V5(the volume of ipsilateral lung receiving 5 Gy) of the ipsilateral lung. While r-FSMP showed no significant difference (p = 0.06) compared to r-FSSP, it achieved the lowest V105 value (4.3 ± 4.5%), albeit with a slight increase in the dose to some OARs. Multivariate GEE linear regression showed that V105 is significantly correlated with target volume and ILBA.Conclusions.m-FSMP and r-FSMP can substantially enhance the homogeneity index (HI) and reduce V105, thereby minimizing the risk of acute skin toxicities, even though there may be a slight dose compromise for certain OARs.

Biofilters are the important source and sink of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB) in the drinking water. Current studies generally ascribed the prevalence of BAR in biofilter from the perspective of gene behavior, i.e. horizontal gene transfer (HGT), little attentions have been paid on the ARGs carrier- ARB. In this study, we proposed the hypothesis that ARB participating in pollutant metabolism processes and becoming dominant is an important way for the enrichment of ARGs. To verify this, the antibiotic resistome and bacterial functional metabolic pathways of a sand filter was profiled using heterotrophic bacterial plate counting method (HPC), high-throughput qPCR, Illumina Hiseq sequencing and PICRUSt2 functional prediction. The results illustrated a significant leakage of ARB in the effluent of the sand filter with an average absolute abundance of approximately 102-103 CFU/mL. Further contribution analysis revealed that the dominant genera, such as Acinetobacter spp., Aeromonas spp., Elizabethkingia spp., and Bacillus spp., were primary ARGs hosts, conferring resistance to multiple antibiotics including sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline and ß-lactams. Notably, these ARGs hosts were involved in nitrogen metabolism, including extracellular nitrate/nitrite transport and nitrite reduction, which are crucial in nitrification and denitrification in biofilters. For example, Acinetobacter spp., the dominant bacteria in the filter (relative abundance 69.97 %), contributed the majority of ARGs and 53.79 % of nitrite reduction function. That is, ARB can predominate by participating in the nitrogen metabolism pathways, facilitating the enrichment of ARGs. These findings provide insights into the stable presence of ARGs in biofilters from a functional metabolism perspective, offering a significant supplementary to the mechanisms of the emergence, maintenance, and transmission of BARin drinking water.

OBJECTIVE: To validate the accuracy of four early warning scores for early identification of women at risk. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of pregnant women admitted in obstetrics Critical Care Unit (ICU). Capacity of the Modified Obstetric Early Warning Score (MOEWS), ICNARC Obstetric Early Warning Score (OEWS), Maternal Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS chart), and Maternal Early Warning Trigger (MEWT) were compared in predicting severe maternal morbidity. Area under receiver operator characteristic (AUROC) curve was used to evaluate the predictive performance of scoring system. RESULTS: A total of 352 pregnant women were enrolled and 290 were identified with severe maternal morbidity. MOEWS was more sensitive than MEOWS chart, ICNARC OEWS and MEWT (96.9 % vs. 83.4 %, 66.6 % and 44.8 %). MEWT had the highest specificity (98.4 %), followed by MOEWS (83.9 %), ICNARC OEWS (75.8 %) and MEOWS chart (48.4 %). AUROC of MOEWS, ICNARC OEWS, MEOWS chart, and MEWT for prediction of maternal mortality were 0.91 (95 % CI: 0.874-0.945), 0.765(95 % CI: 0.71-0.82), 0.657(95 % CI: 0.577-0.738), and 0.716 (95 % CI, 0.659-0.773) respectively. MOEWS had the highest AUCs in the discrimination of serious complications in hypertensive disorders, cardiovascular disease, obstetric hemorrhage and infection. For individual vital signs, maximum diastolic blood pressure (DBP), maximum systolic blood pressure (SBP), maximum respiratory rate (RR) and peripheral oxygen saturation (SPO2) demonstrated greater predictive ability. CONCLUSION: MOEWS is more accurate than ICNARC OEWS, MEOWS chart, and MEWT in predicting the deterioration of women. The prediction ability of DBP, SBP, RR and SPO2 are more reliable.

In this study, the spatiotemporal evolution of full cycle of high-intensity dc argon arc discharge at atmospheric pressure is investigated by using a transferred arc device, which is easy to be directly observed in the experiment. Combining the voltage and current waveforms with high-speed images, the full cycle evolution process of high-intensity atmospheric dc arc can be divided into five different stages: breakdown pulse stage, cathode heating stage, current climbing stage, stable arc discharge stage, and finally arc extinguishing stage. The characteristics of each different stage are analyzed in detail through the electrical properties, high-speed pictures, and spectroscopic measurements. The results show that the strong luminescence region develops from the vicinity of cathode and anode to the middle in the breakdown pulse stage, which is explained from the spatiotemporal evolution of distributions of excited argon atom and ions. The development velocity of emission intensity of argon ions is mainly determined by the dominant stepwise ionization process. Then the cathode heating stage appears with many bright and nonuniformly distributed light spots on the cathode surface, and the electron emission mechanism of cathode gradually changes to the thermionic emission as the surface temperature rises. With the increase of arc current, the discharge channel significantly expands, then becomes stable due to the increment of the Lorentz force. The characteristics of arc extinguishing stage are clarified in terms of the decay of charged particles density.

Recent metagenomic advancements have offered unprecedented insights into soil viral ecology. However, it remains a challenge to select the suitable metagenomic method for investigating soil viruses under different environmental conditions. Here, we assessed the performance of viral size-fraction metagenomes (viromes) and total metagenomes in capturing viral diversity from hypersulfidic soils with neutral pH and sulfuric soils with pH <3.3. Viromes effectively enhanced the sequencing coverage of viral genomes in both soil types. Viomes of hypersulfidic soils outperformed total metagenomes by recovering a significantly higher number of viral operational taxonomic units (vOTUs). However, total metagenomes of sulfuric soils recovered ~4.5 times more vOTUs than viromes on average. Altogether, our findings suggest that the choice between viromes and total metagenomes for studying soil viruses should be carefully considered based on the specific environmental conditions.
