The relationship between aboveground biomass and plant diversity has been extensively examined to understand the role of biodiversity in ecosystem functions and services. Degraded grassland restoration projects can enhance carbon sequestration. However, the relationship between biomass and diversity remains one of the most actively debated topics regarding grassland ecosystems in degraded grassland restoration projects. We speculated that establishing the linear relationships between aboveground biomass and plant species diversity could contribute to enhancing the efficacy of degraded grassland restoration projects. This study sought to determine whether these relationships were linear during the initial stages of the restoration projects of degraded grasslands in Xing'an League, China. The investigations were based on an examination of seventy-six 1 × 1 m2 plots distributed among 15 areas in which the degraded grassland was at the initial stages of restoration. To quantify the species diversity of the degraded grassland communities, we used the species richness, Shannon-Wiener, inverse Simpson's reciprocal, and Pielou's evenness indices. Our analyses revealed that aboveground biomass had clear positive linear relationships with species richness during the initial stages of degraded grassland restoration. However, there were less pronounced associations with species diversity as assessed using the Shannon and inverse Simpson indices, based on regression models. Furthermore, weed biomass was found to have significant negative effects on species richness and Pielou's evenness. The weak linear relationship between aboveground biomass and species richness could be ascribed to an increase in weed biomass. We concluded that aboveground biomass and plant species diversity could be enhanced during the initial stages of degraded grassland restoration projects and suggest that the extent of weed biomass could serve as a key indicator of the efficacy of restoration from the perspective of plant species diversity and aboveground biomass in carbon sequestration projects.

Background: The Huangshui River Basin is one of the most important water sources in the Qinghai Province and is of great importance for ecological protection measures, agricultural irrigation and tourism. Based on previous studies and fieldwork related to plant species in China, this study presents comprehensive data on vascular plants distributed in the Huangshui River Basin of Qinghai Province.Ethical Compliance: All procedures performed in studies involving human participants were in accordance with the ethical standards of the institutional and/or national research committee and with the 1964 Helsinki Declaration and its later amendments or comparable ethical standards.Data Access Statement: Research data supporting this publication are available from the repository at located at https://www.scidb.cn/en/anonymous/QUpuZVEz.Conflict of Interest declaration: The authors declare that they have NO affiliations with or involvement in any organisation or entity with any financial interest in the subject matter or materials discussed in this manuscript. It includes numerous Asteraceae, Gramineae, Rosaceae and Fabaceae along with statistical data on the number of species distributed in different regions. The dataset presented in this article provides important background information on vascular plants in the Huangshui River Basin and, therefore, plays a crucial role in the protection and management of plant resources in this region.

Objective: The incidence of inappropriate and excessive empirical antibiotic therapy is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of different empirical antibiotic therapy prescriptions, related factors, and outcomes in hospitalized patients with bacterial infection. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was performed and patients with bacterial infection who were admitted between October 1, 2019, and September 30, 2020, were included. Multivariable analysis was performed by the logistic regression model. Results: A total of 536 (42.6%) of the 1257 included patients received inappropriate empirical antibiotic therapy (IEAT), and 368 (29.3%) patients received appropriate but unnecessarily broad-spectrum empirical antibiotic therapy (AUEAT). MDRO (adjusted OR 2.932 [95% CI 2.201~3.905]; p < 0.001) and fever on admission (adjusted OR 0.592 [95% CI 0.415~0.844]; p = 0.004) were correlates of IEAT; sepsis (adjusted OR 2.342 [95% CI 1.371~3.999]; p = 0.002), age (adjusted OR 1.019 [95% CI 1.008~1.030]; p < 0.001), MDRO (adjusted OR 0.664 [95% CI 0.469~0.941]; p = 0.021), and urinary tract infection (adjusted OR 0.352 [95% CI 0.203~0.611]; p < 0.001) were correlates of AUEAT. Patients who received AUEAT were more likely to have a poor prognosis (63 [17.8%] vs 101 [27.4%]; p = 0.002). Both IEAT (median [IQR], 24,971 [13,135-70,155] vs 31,489 [14,894-101,082] CNY; p = 0.007) and AUEAT (median [IQR], 24,971 [13,135-70,155] vs 30,960 [16,475-90,881] CNY; p = 0.002) increased hospital costs. 45.3% (570/1257) of patients were infected with MDRO and 62.9% of them received IEAT. Conclusion: Inappropriate and excessive empirical antibiotic use was widely prevalent among hospitalized patients. Either inappropriate or excessive use of antibiotics may increase the burden of healthcare costs, the latter of which may be associated with poor prognosis. Clinicians need to be more judicious in choosing antibiotic(s). The MDRO epidemic was severe, especially in patients who received IEAT. It is imperative to take effective measures to improve the current situation of antibiotic abuse and antimicrobial resistance.

Over the latest decade, lipidomics has been extensively developed to give robust strength to the qualitative and quantitative information of lipid molecules derived from physiological animal tissues and edible muscle foods. The main lipidomics analytical platforms include mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), where MS-based approaches [e.g., "shotgun lipidomics," ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), matrix-assisted laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS)] have been widely used due to their good sensitivity, high availability, and accuracy in identification/quantification of basal lipid profiles in complex biological point of view. However, each method has limitations for lipid-species [e.g., fatty acids, triglycerides (TGs), and phospholipids (PLs)] analysis, and necessitating the extension of effective chemometric-resolved modeling and novel bioinformatic strategies toward molecular insights into alterations in the metabolic pathway. This review summarized the latest research advances regarding the application of advanced lipidomics in muscle origin and meat processing. We concisely highlighted and presented how the biosynthesis and decomposition of muscle-derived lipid molecules can be tailored by intrinsic characteristics during meat production (i.e., muscle type, breed, feeding, and freshness). Meanwhile, the consequences of some crucial hurdle techniques from both thermal/non-thermal perspectives were also discussed, as well as the role of salting/fermentation behaviors in postmortem lipid biotransformation. Finally, we proposed the inter-relationship between potential/putative lipid biomarkers in representative physiological muscles and processed meats, their metabolism accessibility, general nutritional uptake, and potency on human health.
