RESUMO

Carbon composites derived from Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) have shown great promise as multipurpose materials for a range of electrochemical and environmental applications. Since carbon-based nanomaterials exhibit intriguing features, they have been widely exploited as catalysts or catalysts supports in the chemical industry or for energy or environmental applications. To improve the catalytic performance of carbon-based materials, high surface areas, variable porosity, and functionalization are thought to be essential. This study offers a thorough summary of the most recent developments in MOF-derived carbon composite synthesis techniques, emphasizing innovative approaches that improve the structural and functional characteristics of the materials. Their uses in electrochemical technologies, such as energy conversion and storage, and their function in environmental electrocatalysis for water splitting and pollutant degradation are also included in the debate. This review seeks to clarify the revolutionary effect of carbon composites formed from MOFs on sustainable technology solutions by analyzing current research trends and innovations, opening the door for further advancements in this rapidly evolving sector.

Drilling is a widely employed technique in machining processes, crucial for efficient material removal. However, when applied to living tissues, its invasiveness must be carefully considered. This study investigates drilling processes on polyurethane foam blocks mimicking human bone mechanical properties. Various drill bit types (118° twist, 135° twist, spherical, and conical), drilling speeds (1000-1600 rpm), and feed rates (20-80 mm/min) were examined to assess temperature elevation during drilling. The Taguchi method facilitated systematic experiment design and optimization. Signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio and analysis of variance (ANOVA) identified significant drilling parameters affecting temperature rise. Validation was conducted through confirmation testing. Results indicate that standard twist drill bits with smaller point angles, lower drilling speeds, and higher feed rates effectively minimize temperature elevation during drilling.

BACKGROUND: Professional drivers are most likely to experience work-related neck pain due to awkward sitting positions for extended periods of time. Globally, millions of people depend on drivers who dedicate their lives to the craft. However, there is a paucity of data available on professional drivers suffering from neck pain or other musculoskeletal pain in Pakistan. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the prevalence of neck pain and its association with postural and ergonomic factors among Pakistani professional drivers. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study conducted from January to June 2022 among 369 professional drivers located in Faisalabad, Pakistan. The data were collected by using a questionnaire comprising different sections, including personal, postural and ergonomic factors among drivers. The Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 25 was used for data entry and analysis. RESULTS: The mean age of the participants was 40.83±9.27 years. Among the 369 participants, 129 reported neck pain. The period and point prevalence of neck pain were 35% (n = 129) and 31% (n = 115), respectively. Professional drivers reported a significant association between habitual forward posture and head-neck posture (p = 0.000) and between habitual forward posture and trunk posture (p = 0.000) with neck pain. In addition, ergonomics training (p = 0.002), ergonomics awareness (p = 0.002), and mobile use while driving (p = 0.000) were significantly associated with neck pain. CONCLUSION: This study revealed that drivers have greater period prevalence of neck pain than point prevalence. Moreover, this study revealed that age, BMI, lifestyle, health status, medication use, and smoking habits were associated with neck pain in drivers. Drivers who had ergonomic training and awareness were significantly less likely to suffer from lower neck pain. Drivers with a habitual forward posture are more likely to suffer from neck pain than are drivers with a prone posture.

Aim: Head and Neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is the second most prevalent cancer in Pakistan. Methods: Gene expression data from TCGA and GETx for normal genes to analyze Differentially Expressed Genes (DEGs). Data was further investigated using the Enrichr tool to perform Gene Ontology (GO). Results: Our analysis identified most significantly differentially expressed genes and explored their established cellular functions as well as their potential involvement in tumor development. We found that the highly expressed Keratin family and S100A9 genes. The under-expressed genes KRT4 and KRT13 provide instructions for the production of keratin proteins. Conclusion: Our study suggests that factors such as poor oral hygiene and smokeless tobacco can result in oral stress and cellular damage and cause cancer.


The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) holds vast cancer data processed with powerful computers and cloud tech. This sparks new bioinformatics for better cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. In Southeast Asia, Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma (HNSCC) is prevalent. We used TCGA and GETx data to study gene expression. High-expression Keratin and S100A9 genes fight cellular damage under stress, while under-expressed KRT4 and KRT13 genes shape cell structure. Poor oral care and smokeless tobacco could induce cell damage, sparking cancer mutations. Unveiling HNSCC mechanisms may guide targeted treatments and preventive strategies.

Paraquat (PQ) is a noxious herbicide which adversely affects the vital organs including male reproductive system. Sudachitin (SCN) is a naturally occurring flavonoid that demonstrates a wide range of biological potentials. The current study was designed to investigate the alleviative potential of SCN to avert PQ-induced testicular toxicity in rats. Forty-eight male rats (Rattus norvegicus) were apportioned into four groups including control, PQ (5 mg/kg), PQ + SCN (5 mg/kg + 30 mg/kg), and SCN (30 mg/kg) only treated group. Our findings elucidated that PQ treatment reduced the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf-2) and its antioxidant genes as well as the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione reductase (GSR) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx), while elevating the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and malondialdehyde (MDA). Furthermore, PQ intoxication upregulated the expressions of Keap-1 while downregulating the expression of 3-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3ß-HSD), 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (17ß-HSD), and steroidogenic acute regulatory protein (StAR). Moreover, sperm anomalies were increased following the exposure to PQ. Besides, PQ exposure decreased the levels of plasma testosterone, luteinizing hormone (LH), and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) while increasing the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), interleukin-1beta (IL-1ß), and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2). Additionally, PQ treatment escalated the expressions of cysteinyl aspartate-specific proteases-3 (Caspase-3) and Bcl-2-associated X-protein (Bax) while downregulating the expressions of B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2). Furthermore, PQ exposure disrupted the normal architecture of testicular tissues. However, SCN treatment remarkably protected the testicular tissues via regulating the aforementioned disruptions owing to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and androgenic potential.

Cancer is measured as a major threat to human life and is a leading cause of death. Millions of cancer patients die every year, although a burgeoning number of researchers have been making tremendous efforts to develop cancer medicine to fight against cancer. Owing to the complexity and heterogeneity of cancer, lack of ability to treat deep tumor tissues, and high toxicity to the normal cells, it complicates the therapy of cancer. However, bacterial derivative-mediated drug delivery has raised the interest of researchers in overcoming the restrictions of conventional cancer chemotherapy. In this review, we show various examples of tumor-targeting bacteria and bacterial derivatives for the delivery of anticancer drugs. This review also describes the advantages and limitations of delivering anticancer treatment drugs under regulated conditions employing these tumor-targeting bacteria and their membrane vesicles. This study highlights the substantial potential for clinical translation of bacterial-based drug carriers, improve their ability to work with other treatment modalities, and provide a more powerful, dependable, and distinctive tumor therapy.

OBJECTIVES: Child malnutrition is a very serious health issue globally, particularly in emerging countries. Among South Asian countries, Pakistan has been observed to have a high prevalence of child malnutrition. In spite of the implementation of many health strategies and preventive measures for vulnerable populations, this issue is still unresolved and needs further investigation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of various social-, maternal-, and child-level factors considered to be responsible for nutritional health disparities among children. METHODS: An assessment method of malnutrition, i.e., Composite Index of Anthropometric Failure (CIAF), was used to detect the prevalence of malnutrition among children under 5 years of age in Pakistan in order to present a comprehensive view that was lacking conventional indices of malnutrition. A binary logistic regression model was fitted to assess the link between malnutrition and socioeconomic, maternal, and child attributes based on CIAF data compiled from weight-for-height, weight-for-age, and height-for-age Z-scores using data from the Pakistan Demographic Health Survey (2017-2018). RESULTS: A total of 4224 children under 5 years of age were included in the analysis. Approximately half of the children (45.34%) comprised anthropometric failures for the overall prevalence of undernutrition based on CIAF. The results of this study revealed that the leading determinant associated with CIAF was the child's age in months, small birth size, lack of breastfeeding, lack of maternal education, poor economic status of the household, and poor-quality water sources. The factors associated with stunting comprised the child's age in months, small child birth size, underweight maternal body mass index, and uneducated mothers. Only one factor-low household economic profile-was significantly associated with waste. Sindh, Baluchistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces had a higher risk of having wasted children. On the other hand, children aged 25-36 months had higher, small child birth size, underweight maternal BMI, un-educated mother, un-educated father, low economic profile of household experiencing of being underweight. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study reinforce the significance of maternal health, parental education, and household economic profile in the prevention of malnutrition within young children of adequate birth size, as well as better overall health care up to adolescence in Pakistan. Well-nourished individuals are a valuable human resource and a requirement for a nation's progress and prosperity. In emerging nations such evidence-based policies are crucial for fostering children's optimal physical and mental development to ensure a healthier future generation. Therefore, the execution of national health policies aimed at the improvement of maternal and societal factors could result in improved nutrition levels among children below 5 years of age in Pakistan.

Oral administration of BCS class IV anticancer agents has always remained challenging and frequently results in poor oral bioavailability. The goal of the current study was to develop hybrid nanoparticles (HNPs) employing cholesterol and poloxamer-407 to boost paclitaxel's (PTX) oral bioavailability. A series of HNPs with different cholesterol and poloxamer-407 ratios were developed utilizing a single-step nanoprecipitation technique. The PTX loaded HNPs were characterized systematically via particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, surface morphology, in vitro drug release, FTIR, DSC, XRD, acute oral toxicity analysis, hemolysis evaluation, accelerated stability studies, and in vivo pharmacokinetic analysis. The HNPs were found within the range of 106.6±55.60 - 244.5±88.24 nm diameter with the polydispersity index ranging from 0.20±0.03 - 0.51±0.11. SEM confirmed circular, nonporous, and smooth surfaces of HNPs. PTX loaded HNPs exhibited controlled release profile. The compatibility between the components of formulation, thermal stability, and amorphous nature of HNPs were confirmed by FTIR, DSC, and XRD, respectively. Acute oral toxicity analysis revealed that developed system have no deleterious effects on the animals' cellular structures. HNPs demonstrated notable cytotoxic effects and were hemocompatible at relatively higher concentrations. In vivo pharmacokinetic profile (AUC0-∞, AUMC0-∞, t1/2, and MRT0-∞) of the PTX loaded HNPs was improved as compared to pure PTX. It is concluded from our findings that the developed HNPs are hemocompatible, biocompatible and have significantly enhanced the oral bioavailability of PTX.

In the present investigation, aluminum metal matrix composites (AMMs) reinforced with aluminum nitride (AlN) nanoparticulates at different volumetric ratios of (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2 vol.%) were manufactured via a microwave-assisted powder metallurgy technique. The morphological, physical, mechanical, and electrochemical properties of the produced billets were examined to reflect the impact of the successive addition of AlN into the aluminum (Al) matrix. The morphological analysis revealed the high crystalline patterns of the formation of the Al-AlN composites. The microstructural analysis confirmed the presence of the elemental constituents of Al and AlN particles in the fabricated composites, showing an enhanced degree of agglomeration in conjunction with the additional amount of AlN. Positive behavior exhibited by the micro- and nanohardness was noticeable in the Al-AlN composites, especially at the ultimate concentration of AlN in the Al matrix of a 2 vol.%, where it reached 669.4 ± 28.1 MPa and 659.1 ± 11 MPa compared to the pure Al metal at 441.2 ± 20 MPa and 437.5 ± 11 MPa, respectively. A declining trend in the compressive strength was recorded in the reinforced Al samples. The corrosion resistance of the AlN-reinforced Al metal matrix was estimated at 3.5 wt.% NaCl using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization. The results reveal that the inclusion of 2.0 vol.%AlN led to the lowest corrosion rate.

OBJECTIVES: Our research focused on plant's ethanolic extract Lavandula stoechas flower part to investigate the potential analgesic effects and possible pathways involvements. METHODS: Four experimental tests were performed on Swiss albino mice with five animals in each group at different doses (50, 100, and 200mg/kg); formalin test, tail-flick test, acetic acid-induced writhing, and hot-plate test. The opioidergic, noradrenergic, cholinergic, and K channel blockers in the analgesic actions were also carried out for the potential route involvement. KEY FINDING: The percentage inhibition for abdominal writhing's and formalin activity showed a dose-dependent manner for early and late phases reducing abdominal writhing's and time period of licking, respectively. Tail immersion and hot-plate test demonstrated a substantial and dose-dependent increase in the latency time and time period of paw liking and jumping response respectively. GC-MS showed the abundantly present compounds were octadecatrienoic acid (34.35%), n-hexadecanoic acid (12.98%). In silico analyses have revealed three compounds that had good interactions with 6y3c receptor proteins, demonstrating strong binding affinities and satisfying docking parameters. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, these studies showed that ethanolic extract of L. stoechas is an important medicinal plant, with both central and peripheral antinociceptive and analgesic activities supporting its traditional use for therapeutic purposes.

MoO3 thin film was fabricated on an indium tin oxide substrate using the physical vapor deposition technique. X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy study to investigate surface morphology, grain size, and surface structure, which are critical for absorbing solar spectra in water splitting for hydrogen energy generation. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy was used to confirm the absorption of solar spectra and the percentage of transmittance. Fourier-transform infrared analysis provided the functional groups present in the deposited thin film. The Tauc plot was used to determine the thin-film band gap, which allowed for the analysis of charge carrier transitions from the conduction band to the valence band. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy investigations confirmed the charge transfer processes to the counter electrode and electrolyte interfaces. The observed low curve for MoO3 indicated low resistance and allowed efficient charge transfer. Linear sweep voltammetry analysis was used to measure photocurrent and solar light to hydrogen emission when the thin film was exposed to solar spectra. The thin film's observed hydrogen emission rate was 3731.74 mol g-1 h-1, and the STH% of MoO3 was found to be 0.345% at 0.8 V. These findings highlight the promising potential of MoO3 as a material for hydrogen energy generation using solar light.

Biological databases serve as critical basics for modern research, and amid the dynamic landscape of biology, the COVID-19 database has emerged as an indispensable resource. The global outbreak of Covid-19, commencing in December 2019, necessitates comprehensive databases to unravel the intricate connections between this novel virus and cancer. Despite existing databases, a crucial need persists for a centralized and accessible method to acquire precise information within the research community. The main aim of the work is to develop a database which has all the COVID-19-related data available in just one click with auto global notifications. This gap is addressed by the meticulously designed COVID-19 Pandemic Database (CO-19 PDB 2.0), positioned as a comprehensive resource for researchers navigating the complexities of COVID-19 and cancer. Between December 2019 and June 2024, the CO-19 PDB 2.0 systematically collected and organized 120 datasets into six distinct categories, each catering to specific functionalities. These categories encompass a chemical structure database, a digital image database, a visualization tool database, a genomic database, a social science database, and a literature database. Functionalities range from image analysis and gene sequence information to data visualization and updates on environmental events. CO-19 PDB 2.0 has the option to choose either the search page for the database or the autonotification page, providing a seamless retrieval of information. The dedicated page introduces six predefined charts, providing insights into crucial criteria such as the number of cases and deaths', country-wise distribution, 'new cases and recovery', and rates of death and recovery. The global impact of COVID-19 on cancer patients has led to extensive collaboration among research institutions, producing numerous articles and computational studies published in international journals. A key feature of this initiative is auto daily notifications for standardized information updates. Users can easily navigate based on different categories or use a direct search option. The study offers up-to-date COVID-19 datasets and global statistics on COVID-19 and cancer, highlighting the top 10 cancers diagnosed in the USA in 2022. Breast and prostate cancers are the most common, representing 30% and 26% of new cases, respectively. The initiative also ensures the removal or replacement of dead links, providing a valuable resource for researchers, healthcare professionals, and individuals. In recent years, the growth spurt of medical imaging data has led to the development of various machine learning algorithms for various healthcare applications. The MedMNISTv2 dataset, a comprehensive benchmark for 2D biomedical image classification, encompasses diverse medical imaging modalities such as Fundus Camera, Breast Ultrasound, Colon Pathology, Blood Cell Microscope etc. Highly accurate classifications performed on these datasets is crucial for identification of various diseases and determining the course of treatment. This research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of four subsets within the MedMNISTv2 dataset: BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST. Each of these selected datasets is of diverse data modalities and comes with various sample sizes, and have been selected to analyze the efficiency of the model against diverse data modalities. The study explores the idea of assessing the Vision Transformer Model's ability to capture intricate patterns and features crucial for these medical image classification and thereby transcend the benchmark metrics substantially. The methodology includes pre-processing the input images which is followed by training the ViT-base-patch16-224 model on the mentioned datasets. The performance of the model is assessed using key metrices and by comparing the classification accuracies achieved with the benchmark accuracies. With the assistance of ViT, the new benchmarks achieved for BloodMNIST, BreastMNIST, PathMNIST and RetinaMNIST are 97.90%, 90.38%, 94.62% and 57%, respectively. The study highlights the promise of Vision transformer models in medical image analysis, preparing the way for their adoption and further exploration in healthcare applications, aiming to enhance diagnostic accuracy and assist medical professionals in clinical decision-making.

The emergence of computer technologies and computing power has led to the development of several database systems that provide standardized access to vast quantities of data, making it possible to collect, search, index, evaluate, and extract useful knowledge across various fields. The Home of All Biological Databases (HABD) has been established as a continually expanding platform that aims to store, organize, and distribute biological data in a searchable manner, removing all dead and non-accessible data. The platform meticulously categorizes data into various categories, such as COVID-19 Pandemic Database (CO-19PDB), Database relevant to Human Research (DBHR), Cancer Research Database (CRDB), Latest Database of Protein Research (LDBPR), Fungi Databases Collection (FDBC), and many other databases that are categorized based on biological phenomena. It currently provides a total of 22 databases, including 6 published, 5 submitted, and the remaining in various stages of development. These databases encompass a range of areas, including phytochemical-specific and plastic biodegradation databases. HABD is equipped with search engine optimization (SEO) analyzer and Neil Patel tools, which ensure excellent SEO and high-speed value. With timely updates, HABD aims to facilitate the processing and visualization of data for scientists, providing a one-stop-shop for all biological databases. Accurate prediction of the concentration of a large number of hyaluronic acid (HA) samples under temperature perturbations can facilitate the rapid determination of HA's appropriate applications. Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy analysis combined with deep learning presents an effective solution to this challenge, with current research in this area being scarce. Initially, we introduced a novel feature fusion method based on an intersection strategy and used two-dimensional correlation spectroscopy (2DCOS) and Aquaphotomics to interpret the interaction information in HA solutions reflected by the fused features. Subsequently, we created an innovative, multi-strategy improved Walrus Optimization Algorithm (MIWaOA) for parameter optimization of the deep extreme learning machine (DELM). The final constructed MIWaOA-DELM model demonstrated superior performance compared to partial least squares (PLS), extreme learning machine (ELM), DELM, and WaOA-DELM models. The results of this study can provide a reference for the quantitative analysis of biomacromolecules in complex systems.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the economic burden of acute stroke, and to determine the average cost of acute stroke care for a single hospital stay in a public tertiary care hospital. METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted at the Medical Teaching Institute, Bacha Khan Medical Complex, Swabi, Pakistan, from May 16 to September 19, 2022, and comprised patients of either gender who were hospitalised with an acute stroke for the first time. All costs incurred during the care of the patients were measured using the micro-costing methodology, and the association of the cost with other variables was evaluated. Data was analysed using SPSS 24. RESULTS: Of the 34 patients, 24(70.6%) were males and 10(29.4%) were females. The overall mean age was 66+/-13.00 years. The mean length of hospital stay was 4+/-3.00 days. The mean total cost was 18,156+/-9,068 Pakistani rupees, which was the equivalent of 76.89+/-38.4 United States dollars. The cost of the first day of admission was the highest, declining per day as the stay progressed, and imaging/laboratory investigations formed the highest component of the overall cost (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The cost of acute stroke care was found to be high even in a public hospital. The length of hospital stay was the most important determinant of the overall cost.

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) is a pervasive organic toxicant that damages body organs, including heart. Isosakuranetin (ISN) is a plant-based flavonoid that exhibits a broad range of pharmacological potentials. The current investigation was conducted to evaluate the potential role of ISN to counteract PFOS-induced cardiac damage in rats. Twenty-four albino rats (Rattus norvegicus) were distributed into four groups, including control, PFOS (10 mg/kg) intoxicated, PFOS + ISN (10 mg/kg + 20 mg/kg) treated, and ISN (20 mg/kg) alone supplemented group. It was revealed that PFOS intoxication reduced the expressions of Nrf-2 and its antioxidant genes while escalating the expression of Keap-1. Furthermore, PFOS exposure reduced the activities of glutathione reductase (GSR), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), glutathione S-transferase (GST), Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and glutathione (GSH) contents while upregulating the levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and malondialdehyde (MDA). Besides, PFOS administration upregulated the levels of creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), troponin I, creatine phosphokinase (CPK), and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH). Moreover, the levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) were increased after PFOS intoxication. Additionally, PFOS exposure downregulated the expression of Bcl-2 while upregulating the expressions of Bax and Caspase-3. Furthermore, PFOS administration disrupted the normal architecture of cardiac tissues. Nonetheless, ISN treatment remarkably protected the cardiac tissues via regulating aforementioned dysregulations owing to its antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antiapoptotic properties.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the status of antimicrobial-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus in Pakistan, their association in terms of co-occurrence with the biofilm-forming genes, resistance profiling and associated discrepancies in diagnostic methods. METHODOLOGY: A total of 384 milk samples from bovine was collected by using convenient sampling technique and were initially screened for subclinical mastitis, further preceded by isolation and confirmation of S. aureus. The S. aureus isolates were subjected to evaluation of antimicrobial resistance by phenotypic identification using Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method, while the genotypic estimation was done by polymerase chain reaction to declare isolates as methicillin, beta-lactam, vancomycin, tetracycline, and aminoglycoside resistant S. aureus (MRSA, BRSA, VRSA, TRSA, and ARSA), respectively. RESULTS: The current study revealed an overall prevalence of subclinical mastitis and S. aureus to be 59.11% and 46.69%, respectively. On a phenotypic basis, the prevalence of MRSA, BRSA, VRSA, TRSA, and ARSA was found to be 44.33%, 58.49%, 20.75%, 35.84%, and 30.18%, respectively. The results of PCR analysis showed that 46.80% of the tested isolates were declared as MRSA, 37.09% as BRSA, and 36.36% as VRSA, while the occurrence of TRSA and ARSA was observed in 26.31% and 18.75%, respectively. The current study also reported the existence of biofilm-producing genes (icaA and icaD) in 49.06% and 40.57% isolates, respectively. Lastly, this study also reported a high incidence of discrepancies for both genotypic and phenotypic identification methods of resistance evaluation, with the highest discrepancy ratio for the accA-aphD gene, followed by tetK, vanB, blaZ, and mecA genes. CONCLUSION: The study concluded that different antibiotic resistance strains of S. aureus are prevalent in study districts with high potential to transmit between human populations. The study also determined that there are multiple resistance determinants and mechanisms that are responsible for the silencing and expression of antibiotic resistance genes.

In this research communication we investigate the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility of S. aureus harboring virulent genes responsible for mastitis in cattle of Punjab, Pakistan. A total of 690 milk samples were collected from commercial dairy farms for analysis of the prevalence of subclinical and clinical mastitis and isolation of S. aureus. Virulence ability and methicillin resistance in S. aureus (MRSA) was determined by targeting the pvl (the gene for Panton-Valentine leukocidin) and mecA genes, respectively. A total of 175 S. aureus isolates exhibiting prevalence of pvl gene (6.28%) and mecA gene (22.28%) were determined. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing of pvl positive and negative MRSA against different classes of antibiotics revealed 100% resistance against ß-lactams while 100% sensitivity towards tylosin and linezolid.

Cancer, the leading global cause of mortality, poses a formidable challenge for treatment. The effectiveness of cancer therapies, ranging from chemotherapy to immunotherapy, relies on the precise delivery of therapeutic agents to tumor tissues. Nanobiohybrids, resulting from the fusion of bacteria with nanomaterials, constitute a promising delivery system. Nanobiohybrids offer several advantages, including the ability to target tumors, genetic engineering capabilities, programmed product creation, and the potential for multimodal treatment. Recent advances in targeted tumor treatments have leveraged bacteria-based nanobiohybrids. Here, we outline the progress in cancer treatment using nanobiohybrids. Our focus is particularly on various therapeutic approaches within the context of nanobiohybrid systems, where bacteria are integrated with nanomaterials to combat cancer. It has been demonstrated that bacteria-based nanobiohybrids present a robust and effective method for tumor theranostics.
