BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer, a prevalent malignancy, poses a severe threat to the health of residents in China. Timely intervention in early stages can extend patients' survival. AIM: To analyze clinical characteristics of patients with early gastric cancer and efficacy and risk of complications associated with endoscopic resection. METHODS: This study included 175 patients with early gastric cancer treated at our hospital, with no restrictions on sex or age. General data, pathological information, and endoscopic biopsy results were obtained. The clinical characteristics of early gastric cancer were analyzed, and endoscopic resection was performed. Postoperative efficacy and incidence of complications were monitored. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 and GraphPad Prism 8.0 software. RESULTS: A total of 175 patients with early gastric cancer were included, with 75.43% (n = 132) males and 24.57% (n = 43) females. 38.29% (n = 67) and 35.43% (n = 62) of patients had a history of smoking and alcohol consumption, respectively. Comorbidities included diabetes (8.57%, n = 15), coronary heart disease (10.29%, n = 18), and hypertension (43.43%, n = 76), which was highly prevalent. A history of abdominal surgery and family history of digestive system cancer accounted for 21.14% and 17.14%, respectively. The most common lesion location was the antral part of the stomach (52.00%, n = 91), followed by the gastric angle, body, and fundus. The pathological types were predominantly high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (28.00%, n = 49) and well-differentiated adenocarcinoma (26.86%, n = 47), followed by moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma, high-moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma, and moderate-lowly differentiated adenocarcinoma. 89.14% of the patients had intestinal metaplasia and 85.14% had atrophy. After endoscopic resection, re-examination revealed that 13 patients had cancer cells at the tissue margin, with a positive margin rate of 7.43%. Postoperative complications included no cases of gastrointestinal obstruction, but incisional infection (2.86%, n = 5), gastric perforation (1.14%, n = 2), and gastric bleeding (4%, n = 7) were present, with an overall incidence of 8.00%. CONCLUSION: Analysis of the clinical characteristics indicated that early gastric cancer is more prevalent in males with a history of hypertension, with lesions most commonly occurring in the antral region of the stomach. The pathological types are often high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia and well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, with over 85% of patients having comorbid intestinal metaplasia and atrophy. Despite endoscopic resection, a positive margin rate persisted, indicating a probability of residual cancer at the margins. Postoperative complications, such as gastrointestinal obstruction, incisional infection, gastric perforation, and gastric bleeding can occur and require timely symptomatic treatment.

Disorder, which is ubiquitous in nature, has been extensively explored in photonics for understanding the fundamental principles of light diffusion and localization, as well as for applications in functional resonators and random lasers. Recently, the investigation of disorder in topological photonics has led to the realization of topological Anderson insulators characterized by an unexpected disorder-induced phase transition. However, the observed photonic topological Anderson insulators so far are limited to the time-reversal symmetry breaking systems. Here, we propose and realize a photonic quantum spin Hall topological Anderson insulator without breaking time-reversal symmetry. The disorder-induced topological phase transition is comprehensively confirmed through the theoretical effective Dirac Hamiltonian, numerical analysis of bulk transmission, and experimental examination of bulk and edge transmissions. We present convincing evidence for the unidirectional propagation and robust transport of helical edge modes, which are the key features of nontrivial time-reversal invariant topological Anderson insulators. Furthermore, we demonstrate disorder-induced beam steering, highlighting the potential of disorder as a new degree of freedom to manipulate light propagation in magnetic-free systems. Our work not only paves the way for observing unique topological photonic phases but also suggests potential device applications through the utilization of disorder.

Despite significant advances in phylogenetics over the past decades, the deep relationships within Bivalvia (phylum Mollusca) remain inconclusive. Previous efforts based on morphology or several genes have failed to resolve many key nodes in the phylogeny of Bivalvia. Advances have been made recently using transcriptome data, but the phylogenetic relationships within Bivalvia historically lacked consensus, especially within Pteriomorphia and Imparidentia. Here, we inferred the relationships of key lineages within Bivalvia using matrices generated from specifically designed ultraconserved elements (UCEs) with 16 available genomic resources and 85 newly sequenced specimens from 55 families. Our new probes (Bivalve UCE 2k v.1) for target sequencing captured an average of 849 UCEs with 1085-bp in mean length from in vitro experiments. Our results introduced novel schemes from six major clades (Protobranchina, Pteriomorphia, Palaeoheterodonta, Archiheterodonta, Anomalodesmata and Imparidentia), though some inner nodes were poorly resolved, such as paraphyletic Heterodonta in some topologies potentially due to insufficient taxon sampling. The resolution increased when analyzing specific matrices for Pteriomorphia and Imparidentia. We recovered three Pteriomorphia topologies different from previously published trees, with the strongest support for ((Ostreida + (Arcida + Mytilida)) + (Pectinida + (Limida + Pectinida))). Limida were nested within Pectinida, warranting further studies. For Imparidentia, our results strongly supported the new hypothesis of (Galeommatida + (Adapedonta + Cardiida)), while the possible non-monophyly of Lucinida was inferred but poorly supported. Overall, our results provide important insights into the phylogeny of Bivalvia and show that target enrichment sequencing of UCEs can be broadly applied to study both deep and shallow phylogenetic relationships.

For decades, many marine animals have been considered to exhibit cosmopolitan or transoceanic distribution. This situation is prevalent in Asia, where many species were collected and named by American or European experts in the 1700s to early 1900s. Using the windowpane oysters Placuna-a small genus of bivalves with five recognized species-we show that careful analysis is required to reassess the validity of these species. Currently, only two species of Placuna (P. placenta and P. ephippium) widely reported in the Indo-Pacific region have been recorded from Chinese coastal waters. Here, we described two new species of Placuna from China. Placuna vitream sp. nov. can be distinguished from P. placenta by its larger ridge angle. Phylogenetic analysis using five gene fragments fully supported that P. vitream sp. nov. is a sister to the specimen from Singapore identified as P. placenta and more distant from other Placuna species with available molecular data. Besides, based on subfossil shells, we describe Placuna aestuaria sp. nov. that differs from its congeneric species by its broad hinge, medium ridge angle, and nearly straight ridges. Finally, we suggest a combination of hinge structure and ridge angle that can be used for identifying Placuna species and preparing a key to this genus. Our findings of two new species expand the diversity of Placuna and prompt reassessment of the many presumably widely distributed marine species in Asia.

Litter layer, serving as the "skin" of forest soil, plays a crucial role in conserving water resources and maintaining soil and water conservation. We analyzed the relationship of tree species richness, community weighted mean traits, and functional diversity with the standing mass, maximum water holding rate, and effective water sto-rage capacity of litters from various tree species including Liquidambar formosana, Mytilaria laosensis, Castanopsis sclerophylla, Castanopsis hystrix, Cunninghamia lanceolata, Pinus massoniana, Fokienia hodginsii, Taxus wallichiana and their combinations of mixed forests in subtropical region. The results showed that across various tree species combinations, the ranges of maximum water holding rate, standing litter mass and effective water storage capacity of undecomposed layer were 0-419%, 0-0.58 t·hm-2, and 0-1.66 t·hm-2, respectively. For the semi-decomposition layer, these values spanned in 0-375%, 0-6.14 t·hm-2, and 0-16.03 t·hm-2, respectively. Tree species richness and community weighted mean specific leaf area had significantly positive effects on standing mass of litter and effective water storage capacity, while community weighted mean leaf N content had significantly negative effect on standing mass of litter. The maximum water holding rate increased with the increases of functional diversity of specific leaf area and community weighted mean specific leaf area, decreased with the increase of community weighted mean leaf thickness. Results of structural equation model showed that tree species richness increased litter water holding capacity by increasing functional diversity of specific leaf area. The community weighted mean specific leaf area increased the water holding capacity of litter layer by increasing standing mass of litter and the maximum water holding rate. It is necessary to consider planting mixed forest with higher community weighted mean specific leaf area in the management of subtropical artificial forest, so as to improve the water holding capacity of litter layer.

BACKGROUND: Shear Wave Elastography (SWE) offers quantitative insights into the hardness and elasticity characteristics of tissues. The objective of this study is to investigate the correlation between SWE of the menisci and MRI-assessed degenerative changes in the menisci, with the aim of providing novel reference source for improving non-invasive evaluation of meniscal degenerative alterations. METHODS: The participants in this study were selected from patients who underwent knee joint MRI scans at our hospital from February 2023 to February 2024. The anterior horns of both the medial and lateral menisci were evaluated using SWE technique. The differences in elastic values of meniscus among different MRI grades were compared. The correlation between elastic values and MRI grades, as well as various parameters, was analyzed. Using MRI Grade 3 as the gold standard, the optimal cutoff value for meniscal tear was determined. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was employed to evaluate the reliability of repeated measurements performed by the same observer. RESULTS: A total of 104 female participants were enrolled in this study, with 152 lateral menisci (LM) and 144 medial menisci (MM) assessed. For the male group, 83 individuals were included, with 147 LM and 145 MM evaluated. The results demonstrated statistically significant differences in the elasticity values of the menisci at the same anatomical sites across different MRI grades (P < 0.001). Within the same grade, the MM had higher elasticity values than the LM, showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). The elasticity values of the menisci were higher in males compared to females. There were statistically significant positive correlations between the elasticity values of the menisci and age, BMI, and MRI grade. The ICC for repeated measurements within the observer demonstrated good reliability (> 0.79). CONCLUSIONS: The meniscal elasticity values measured by SWE exhibit a significant positive correlation with the grades of degeneration assessed by MRI. Furthermore, the elasticity values of the meniscus are found to increase with advancing age and elevated BMI.

Echinococcosis is a zoonotic disease, which seriously endangers human health. The immune game between parasite and host is not fully understood. Exosomes are thought to be one of the ways of information communication between parasite and host. In this study, we attempted to explore the communication between Echinococcus granulosus and its host through the medium of exosomes. We collected plasma from E. granulosus patients (CE-EXO) and healthy donors (HD-EXO) and extracted exosomes from the plasma. The expression profile of miRNA in plasma was determined by second generation sequencing. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) were used to annotate the function of target genes of differential miRNAs. Meanwhile, we co-cultured plasma exosomes from healthy donors and plasma exosomes from E. granulosus patients with Jurkat T cells with or without phytohaemagglutinin (PHA) stimulation. The expression of CD69 on Jurkat T cells was detected by flow cytometry. The results showed that the miRNA of exosomes between healthy donors and E. granulosus patients was significantly different. GO and KEGG were used to annotate the function of target genes of differential miRNAs. The results indicate that many important pathways are involved in inflammation, metabolism, and immune response after parasite infection, such as p53 signaling pathway, PI3K-Akt signaling pathway, and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis. Flow cytometry showed that CE-EXO reduced the expression of CD69 + on Jurkat T cells. Our present results suggest that these differentially expressed miRNAs may be important regulators of parasite-host interactions. Meanwhile, functional prediction of its target genes provides valuable information for understanding the mechanism of host-parasite interactions. These results provide clues for future studies on E. granulosus escape from host immune attack, which could help control E. granulosus infection.

The relationship between metastasis-associated protein 2 (MTA2) overexpression and tumor growth and metastasis has been extensively studied in a variety of tumor cells but not in human osteosarcoma cells. This study aims to elucidate the clinical significance, underlying molecular mechanisms, and biological functions of MTA2 in human osteosarcoma in vitro and in vivo. Our results show that MTA2 was elevated in osteosarcoma cell lines and osteosarcoma tissues and was associated with tumor stage and overall survival of osteosarcoma patients. Knockdown of MTA2 inhibited osteosarcoma cell migration and invasion by reducing the expression of urokinase-type plasminogen activator (uPA). Bioinformatic analysis demonstrated that high levels of uPA in human osteosarcoma tissues correlated positively with MTA2 expression. Furthermore, treatment with recombinant human uPA (Rh-uPA) caused significant restoration of OS cell migration and invasion in MTA2 knockdown osteosarcoma cells. We found that ERK1/2 depletion increased the expression of uPA, facilitating osteosarcoma cell migration and invasion. Finally, MTA2 depletion significantly reduced tumor metastasis and the formation of lung nodules in vivo. Overall, our study suggests that MTA2 knockdown suppresses osteosarcoma cell metastasis by decreasing uPA expression via ERK signaling. This finding provides new insight into potential treatment strategies against osteosarcoma metastasis by targeting MTA2.

BACKGROUND: Patient care informatics are becoming more advanced with digital capacity and server functionality. The Intensive Care unit (ICU) is becoming paperless for prescribing, charting and monitoring care. A further challenge is to include all life sustaining therapies in this digital space. Digital modules and options may be available, however continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT) often require custom design for many nuances. Associated with the COVID pandemic, and a surge in the paperless and 'Green' ICU bedside, we gathered a team to design, develop and implement a CRRT orders, charting-documentation and monitoring functionality into our existing Cerner (ORACLE Corp, Austin, Texas, USA) software. KEY MESSAGES: This included new approaches to the two-dimensional paper documents used prior and a live dashboard with new metrics and data. The design linked to other relevant CRRT pages such as the master patient fluid balance, pathology results and medication prescribing. The primary views and function are role related for medical, nursing and pharmacy with specific and sensitive input. Following the build and implementation initial evaluation was positive, and led to an audit trail or e-history for prescribers use, and provision for concurrent therapies. Clinicians use this digital ordering differently with live data available for 'hand-over' and case discussion. There is scope for research and further links to devices such as personal phones and via an App. SUMMARY: This experience may assist CRRT users design and develop similar prescribing, charting and monitoring bedside computer opportunities in the desire for digital and Green nephrology in the ICU.

This article analyzed the mechanism of Huangqi Simiao Decoction(HSD) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM). The component targets of HSD and the related disease targets of T2DM were screened through network pharmacology. The protein-protein interaction(PPI) network of intersecting targets and the drug-component-intersecting target network were constructed to screen the potential active ingredients and targets. Molecular docking was performed using AutoDock Vina software to verify the interaction between potential components and core targets. The serum was tested by ultra performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry, and multivariate statistical analyses, such as principal component analysis(PCA) and partial least squares discriminant analysis(PLS-DA), were used to search for the differential metabolites and related metabolic pathways of each group by combining with the MetaboAnalyst database. The same metabolic pathways were analyzed by combining the screened differential metabolites with the intersecting targets screened by network pharmacology. Network pharmacology showed that the nine core components of HSD for the treatment of T2DM were quercetin, kaempferol, stigmasterol, baicalein, ß-sitosterol, flavodoxin, canthaxanthin, canthaxanthin, berberine, and berberine, and the five core targets included AKT1, TP53, TNF, IL6, and VEGFA. Molecular docking showed that the core components bound well to the target genes. Metabolomics showed that a total of 112 common differential metabolites were identified, of which 88 metabolites exhibited increased concentration and 24 metabolites decreased concentration after treatment with HSD. Enrichment analysis showed that HSD regulated the body metabolism of patients with T2DM, mainly related to seven metabolic pathways, such as amino acid metabolism and tricarboxylic acid cycle. The joint analysis of metabolomics and network pharmacology showed that both involved histidine metabolism, arginine and proline metabolic pathways. This study suggests that HSD has a good efficacy for T2DM. Based on the combined analysis of metabolomics and network pharmacology, it was found that the mechanism may be that the pharmacodynamic bases of quercetin, kaempferol, and stigmasterol in HSD enhance the effects on histidine metabolism, arginine and proline metabolic pathways by modulating a variety of metabolites, which provides the basis for further prevention and treatment of T2DM.

Zhongfeng Xingnao Decoction(ZFXN) has been utilized for treating intracerebral hemorrhage(ICH) in China, while the pharmacological mechanism of ZFXN remains unclear. Exploring the pharmacological roles of ZFXN is critical for guiding the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases. In this study, a rat model of ICH was constructed by injection of Ⅶ collagenase in the right caudate nucleus. SD rats were randomly assigned into five groups, and the neurological function of rats was evaluated based on the Bederson score. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) was used to assess the volume of ICH. Hematoxylin-eosin(HE) staining and transmission electron microscopy(TEM) were employed to observe the pathological and ultrastructural changes in the brain tissue. The levels of reactive oxygen species(ROS) were measured by flow cytometry. The immunofluorescence assay was employed to detect the expression of glutathione peroxidase 4(GPX4) in neurons surrounding the hematoma. Finally, Western blot was employed to determine the expression of ferroptosis-related proteins upstream frameshift 1(UPF1), ferroportin(FPN), acyl-CoA ligase 4(ACSL4), cyclooxyge-nase-2(COX-2), GPX4, NADPH oxidase 1(NOX1), and solute carrier family 7 member 11(SLC7A11) after ICH. Compared with the model(ICH) group, ZFXN treatment for 5 days attenuated neurological dysfunction, reduced the hematoma volume, and alleviated the pathological changes induced by ICH. Meanwhile, ZFXN lowered the levels of Fe~(2+) and oxidative stress and up-regulated the expression of proteins inhibiting ferroptosis. ZFXN improved the prognosis of ICH in rats by inhibiting neuronal ferroptosis, which provided a valuable guide for the clinical application of ZFXN. ZFXN may inhibit ferroptosis by promoting the expression of SLC7A11 and FPN.

Organohalogen compounds exhibit wide-ranging bioactivities and potential applications. Understanding natural biosynthetic pathways and improving the production of halogenated compounds has garnered significant attention. Recently, the biosynthetic pathway of a cyanobacterial neurotoxin, aetokthonotoxin, was reported. It contains two unique enzymes: a single-component flavin-dependent halogenase AetF and a new type of nitril synthase AetD. The crystal structures of these enzymes in complex with their cofactors and substrates that were recently reported will be presented here. The AetF structures reveal a tri-domain architecture, the transfer direction of the hydride ion, a possible path to deliver the hypohalous acid, and the unusual bispecific substrate-recognition mode. The AetD structures demonstrate that the nitrile formation should occur through the action of a diiron cluster, implying that the enzyme should be capable of catalyzing the nitrile formation of alternative amino acids. This information is of central importance for understanding the mechanism of action as well as the applications of these two the-first-of-its-kind enzymes.

The development of alternative alloy catalysts with high activity, surpassing platinum group metals, for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is urgently needed in the field of electrocatalysis. The Ag-based single-atom alloy (AgSAA) cluster has been proposed as a promising catalyst for the ORR; however, enhancing its activity under operational conditions remains challenging due to limited insights into its actual active site. Here, we demonstrate that the operando formation of the MO x (OH) y complex serves as the key active site for catalyzing the ORR over AgSAA cluster catalysts, as revealed through comprehensive neural network potential molecular dynamics simulations combined with first-principles calculations. The volcano plot of the ORR over the MO x (OH) y complex addresses the gaps inherent in traditional metallic alloy models for pure AgSAA cluster catalysts in ORR catalysis. The appropriate orbital hybridization between OH and the dopant metal in the MO x (OH) y complexes indicated that the Ag54Co1, Ag54Pd1, and Ag54Au1 clusters are optimal AgSAA catalysts for the ORR. Our work underscores the significance of theoretical modeling considering the reaction atmosphere in uncovering the true active site for the ORR, which can be extended to other reaction systems for rational catalyst design.

ABC transporters are a highly conserved membrane protein class that promote the transport of substances across membranes. Under drought conditions, insects primarily regulate the content of cuticular hydrocarbon (CHC) to retain water and prevent evaporative loss. Involvement of ABC transporter protein G (ABCG) subfamily genes in insect CHC transport has been relatively understudied. In this study, we demonstrated that ABCG4 gene in Acyrthosiphon pisum (ApABCG4) is involved in CHC transport and affects drought tolerance by regulating CHC accumulation. ApABCG4 is strongly expressed in the abdominal cuticle and embryonic stages of A. pisum. Effective silencing of ApABCG4 was achieved using RNAi, and the silencing duration was analyzed. ApABCG4 silencing resulted in a significant decrease in the total and component contents of the CHC and cuticular waxy coatings of A. pisum. Nevertheless, the internal hydrocarbon content remained unchanged. The lack of cuticular hydrocarbons significantly reduced the drought tolerance of A. pisum, shortening its survival time under drought stress. Drought stress caused significant upregulation of ApABCG4. Molecular docking showed that ApABCG4 has a high binding affinity for nine n-alkanes of CHC through electrostatic interactions. These results indicate that ApABCG4 is a novel RNAi target with key applications in aphid biological control.

BACKGROUND: The therapeutic potential of immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) extends across various cancers; however, its effectiveness in treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is frequently curtailed by both inherent and developed resistance. OBJECTIVE: This research explored the effectiveness of integrating anlotinib (a broad-spectrum tyrosine kinase inhibitor) with programmed death-1 (PD-1) blockade and offers mechanistic insights into more effective strategies for treating HCC. METHODS: Using patient-derived organotypic tissue spheroids and orthotopic HCC mouse models, we assessed the effectiveness of anlotinib combined with PD-1 blockade. The impact on the tumour immune microenvironment and underlying mechanisms were assessed using time-of-flight mass cytometry, RNA sequencing, and proteomics across cell lines, mouse models, and HCC patient samples. RESULTS: The combination of anlotinib with an anti-PD-1 antibody enhanced the immune response against HCC in preclinical models. Anlotinib remarkably suppressed the expression of transferrin receptor (TFRC) via the VEGFR2/AKT/HIF-1α signaling axis. CD8+ T-cell infiltration into the tumour microenvironment correlated with low expression of TFRC. Anlotinib additionally increased the levels of the chemokine CXCL14, crucial for attracting CD8+ T cells. CXCL14 emerged as a downstream effector of TFRC, exhibiting elevated expression following the silencing of TFRC. Importantly, low TFRC expression was also associated with a better prognosis, enhanced sensitivity to combination therapy, and a favourable response to anti-PD-1 therapy in patients with HCC. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight anlotinib's potential to augment the efficacy of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy in HCC by targeting TFRC and enhancing CXCL14-mediated CD8+ T-cell infiltration. This study contributes to developing novel therapeutic strategies for HCC, emphasizing the role of precision medicine in oncology. HIGHLIGHTS: Synergistic effects of anlotinib and anti-PD-1 immunotherapy demonstrated in HCC preclinical models. Anlotinib inhibits TFRC expression via the VEGFR2/AKT/HIF-1α pathway. CXCL14 upregulation via TFRC suppression boosts CD8+ T-cell recruitment. TFRC emerges as a potential biomarker for evaluating prognosis and predicting response to anti-PD-1-based therapies in advanced HCC patients.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to compare the gender differences in isolated mitral regurgitation (MR) repair. METHODS: Of 381 adults aged 54.8 ± 12.3 years undergoing mitral valve repair (MVP) for isolated MR from January 2019 to December 2022, the baseline and operative data, and outcomes were compared between 161 women (42.3%) and 220 men (57.7%). RESULTS: Women tended to be nonsmokers (98.1 vs. 45%, p < 0.001), and have more cerebrovascular accidents (38.5% vs. 24.1%, p = 0.004) and isolated annular dilatation (19.3 vs. 9.1%, p = 0.010), lower creatinine (70.0 ± 19.5 vs. 86.3 ± 19.9 µmol/dL, p < 0.001), and smaller left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD; 54.4 ± 6.7 vs. 57.8 ± 6.6 mm, p < 0.001). One female died of stroke at 2 days (0.3%). Another female (0.3%) underwent mitral valve replacement for failed repair. Stroke occurred in 4 (1.0%). Two underwent reexploration for bleeding (0.5%). Women were more likely to have less 24-hour drainage (290 ± 143 vs. 385 ± 196 mL, p < 0.001). Over a mean follow-up of 2.1 ± 1.1 years (100% complete), 1 woman died and 1 man underwent a reoperation; 28 had moderate MR, and 9 had severe MR. Neither did early and late mortality and reoperation, nor freedom from late moderate or severe MR (71.6 vs. 71.4% at 5 years; p = 0.992) differ significantly between the two genders. Predictors for late moderate or severe MR were anterior leaflet prolapse (hazard ratio [HR] 4.45; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.18-16.72; p = 0.027) and isolated annular dilation (HR 5.47, 95% CI 1.29-23.25; p = 0.021). CONCLUSION: In this series of patients undergoing isolated MR repair, despite significant differences in smoking, cerebrovascular accidents, creatinine, LVEDD, and isolated annular dilatation at baseline, and 24-hour drainage postoperatively, women and men did not show significant differences in early and late survival, reoperation, and freedom from late moderate or severe MR.

The electrocatalytic carbon dioxide reduction reaction (ECRR) is promising in converting environmentally harmful CO2 into useful chemicals, but the large-scale application of this technology is seriously limited by its low efficiency and selectivity. Cu-based electrocatalysts displayed attractive ability in converting CO2 to multiple products, and the product selectivity can be manipulated through various approaches. Among them, exposing specific crystal facets through crystal facet engineering has been proven to be highly effective in obtaining specific products and has attracted numerous researchers. However, to our knowledge, few reports have systematically summarized the relationship between the crystal facet control of Cu catalysts and the catalytic products. This review begins by outlining the general mechanism of CO2 electrocatalytic reduction on Cu-based catalysts, and then summarizes the preferences of low-index and high-index Cu facets regarding product selectivity and delves into the synergistic effects between facets (including different Cu facets and interactions between Cu and non-Cu facets) and their impact on CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR). In addition, the study of the recently developed Cu single-atom catalysts in ECRR was also introduced. Finally, we provide an outlook on the development of high-performance Cu-based catalysts for applications in CO2RR. The purpose of this review is to provide a clear vein and meaningful guidance for the following studies over the crystal facet control of Cu-based electrocatalysts.

Passive radiant cooling is a potentially sustainable thermal management strategy amid escalating global climate change. However, petrochemical-derived cooling materials often face efficiency challenges owing to the absorption of sunlight. We present an intrinsic photoluminescent biomass aerogel, which has a visible light reflectance exceeding 100%, that yields a large cooling effect. We discovered that DNA and gelatin aggregation into an ordered layered aerogel achieves a solar-weighted reflectance of 104.0% in visible light regions through fluorescence and phosphorescence. The cooling effect can reduce ambient temperatures by 16.0°C under high solar irradiance. In addition, the aerogel, efficiently produced at scale through water-welding, displays high reparability, recyclability, and biodegradability, completing an environmentally conscious life cycle. This biomass photoluminescence material is another tool for designing next-generation sustainable cooling materials.
