RESUMO

BACKGROUND: There has been an increase in the number of nurses returning to work after childbirth (NRWCs) in Chinese hospital. Social support is important for NRWCs. OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a perceived social support scale for NRWCs in China. METHOD: The original items were based on a literature review, the social support theory, and semi-structured interviews. The Delphi technique was used to adjust further and screen the scale entries to form an initial draft of the scale. From February to October 2023, we recruited 627 NRWCs from hospitals in 12 provinces of China. The psychometric attributes of the scale were examined by construct validity, content validity, test-retest reliability, and internal consistency reliability. The STROBE checklist was used to guide the submission. RESULTS: 4 dimensions and 22 items compose the initial scale. Exploratory factor analysis verified a four-factor scale structure. The confirmatory factor analysis results showed that the four-factor structure model fitted well. The resulting scale contains 4 dimensions with 18 items. The item-level content validity index ranged from 0.83 to 1.00. The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of four dimensions and total scale were respectively 0.957, 0.899, 0.870, 0.945, 0.967. The reliability of the scale over time was further verified, with a coefficient of 0.809 for the overall scale and a range from 0.682 to 0.718 for each domain. CONCLUSION: The perceived social support scale for NRWCs is a reliable and valid instrument. The application of the perceived social support scale for NRWCs would improve the assessment of social support among NRWCs.

RESUMO

Since 2010, the Tembusu virus (TMUV) has been highly prevalent in China, causing significant economic losses to the poultry industry. In 2022, a suspected outbreak of TMUV occurred at a goose farm located in Anhui Province. A strain of TMUV, TMUV HQ-22, was isolated from the infected geese. Phylogenetic analysis using the E gene of the HQ-22 strain demonstrated its affiliation with cluster 3, a less commonly reported cluster in comparison to the main circulating cluster, cluster 2. Through a comparison of the envelope (E) protein of HQ-22 with other typical TMUV strains, a mutation at the 157th amino acid position was identified, wherein valine (V) in cluster 3 changed to alanine (A), a characteristic that is unique to cluster 2. These findings highlight the diversity and complexity of the TMUV strains circulating in China. In our experimental analysis, an injection of TMUV HQ-22 into the muscles of 3-day-old goslings resulted in severe neurological symptoms and a mortality rate of 60%. Similarly, the intracranial or intranasal infection of 3-week-old ICR mice with TMUV HQ-22 led to severe neurological symptoms and respective mortality rates of 100% or 10%. In summary, our study isolated a TMUV strain, TMUV HQ-22, from geese that belongs to cluster 3 and exhibits significant pathogenicity in both goslings and ICR mice. These results emphasize the genetic diversity of the TMUV circulating in China and expand the host range beyond mosquitoes to include ducks, chickens, geese, and even mice. It is crucial to not underestimate the risk of TMUV infection in mammals, warranting our utmost attention.

RESUMO

Duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) is a neurotropic virus in the genus Flavivirus that causes massive economic losses to the poultry industry in China and neighbouring countries. Autophagy is pivotal in cellular responses to pathogens and in viral pathogenesis. However, little is known about the roles of autophagy in DTMUV replication and viral pathogenesis, especially in neuropathogenesis. In this study, mouse neuroblastoma cells (Neuro-2a) were used to establish a cell model of DTMUV infection. Our experiments indicated that DTMUV infection induced incomplete autophagy in Neuro-2a cells. Then, we used different autophagy regulators to alter the autophagy induced by DTMUV and found that incomplete autophagy promoted DTMUV replication. Furthermore, we showed that DTMUV infection activated the ERK and AMPK pathways, resulting in decreased phosphorylation of the autophagy repressor mTOR, subsequently leading to autophagic induction. In addition, we utilized ICR mice in an animal model of DTMUV infection to evaluate the autophagic responses in brain tissues and investigate the effects of autophagy on viral replication and tissue lesions. Our results confirmed that DTMUV induced incomplete autophagy in mouse brain tissues and that autophagy inducer treatment promoted DTMUV replication and aggravated DTMUV-induced lesions, whereas autophagy inhibitor treatment had the opposite effects. In summary, DTMUV infection induced incomplete autophagy through the ERK/mTOR and AMPK/mTOR signalling pathways to promote viral replication in mouse neuronal cells, and DTMUV-induced incomplete autophagy contributed to the neuropathogenesis of DTMUV.

RESUMO

The dysregulation of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and/or solute carrier family 7 member 11 (SLC7A11) is believed to contribute to ferroptosis in the hearts suffered ischemia/reperfusion (I/R), but the mechanisms behind the dysregulation of them are not fully elucidated. Mucosa associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma translocation gene 1 (MALT1) can function as a paracaspase to cleave specified substrates and it is predicted to interact with Nrf2. This study aims to explore whether targeting MALT1 can reduce I/R-induced ferroptosis via enhancing the Nrf2/SLC7A11 pathway. The SD rat hearts were subjected to 1h-ischemia plus 3h-reperfusion to establish the I/R injury model, which showed myocardial injuries (increase in infarct size and creatine kinase release) and up-regulation of MALT1 while downregulation of Nrf2 and SLC7A11 concomitant with the increased ferroptosis, reflecting by an increase in glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) level while decreases in the levels of acyl-CoA synthetase long chain family member 4 (ACSL4), total iron, Fe2+ and lipid peroxidation (LPO); these phenomena were reversed in the presence of MI-2, a specific inhibitor of MALT1. Consistently, similar results were achieved in the cultured cardiomyocytes subjected to 8h-hypoxia plus 12h-reoxygenation. Furthermore, micafungin, an antifungal drug, could also exert beneficial effect on mitigating myocardial I/R injury via inhibition of MALT1. Based on these observations, we conclud that inhibition of MALT1 can reduce I/R-induced myocardial ferroptosis through enhancing the Nrf2/SLC7A11 pathway; and MALT1 may be used as a potential target to seek novel or existing drugs (such as micafungin) for treating myocardial infarction.

RESUMO

Seawater is one of the most important CO2 sequestration media for delivering value-added chemicals/fuels and active chlorine; however, this scenario is plagued by sluggish reaction rates and poor product selectivity. Herein, we first report the synthesis of nitrogen-doped BiOCl atomic layers to directly split carbon-sequestrated natural seawater (Yellow Sea, China) into stoichiometric CO (92.8 µmol h-1 ) and HClO (83.2 µmol h-1 ) under visible light with selectivities greater than 90 %. Photoelectrons enriched on the exposed BiOCl{001} facet kinetically facilitate CO2 -to-CO reduction via surface-doped nitrogen bearing Lewis basicity. Photoholes, mainly located on the lateral facets of van der Waals gaps, promote the selective oxidation of Cl- into HClO. Sequestrated CO2 also maintains the pH of seawater at around 4.2 to prevent the alkaline earth cations from precipitating. The produced HClO can effectively kill typical bacteria in the ballast water of ocean-going cargo ships, offering a green and safe way for onsite sterilization.

RESUMO

Ambipolar polymer semiconductors are potentially serviceable for logic circuits, light-emitting field-effect transistors (LFETs) and polymer solar cells (PSCs). Although several high-performance ambipolar polymers have been developed, their optoelectronic devices are generally processed from toxic chlorinated solvents. To achieve the commercial applications of organic FETs (OFETs), the polymers should be processed from nonchlorinated solvents, instead of chlorinated solvents. However, most conjugated polymers show poor solubility in nonchlorinated solvents. It is of great importance to develop ambipolar polymers that can be processed from nonchlorinated solvents. Here, we develop a nonchlorinated solvent processed polymer named poly[7-fluoro-N, N'-di(4-decyltetradecyl)-7'-azaisoindigo-6',6″-(thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-diyl)-7‴-fluoro-N″, N‴-di(4-decyltetradecyl)-7″-azaisoindigo-6,6‴-([2,2″-bithiophene]-5,5″-diyl)] (PITTI-BT) by designing a monomer with a large molar mass. The polymer displays good solubility in p-xylene (PX). Well-aligned films of PITTI-BT are achieved by an off-center spin-coating (SC) method. Based on the high-quality films, the OFETs fabricated from PX solution achieve record ambipolar performance with hole and electron mobilities of 3.06 and 2.81 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively. The combination of nonchlorinated solvents and good alignment process offers an effective and eco-friendly approach to obtain high-performance ambipolar transistors.

RESUMO

Allopurinol, a xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitor, is reported to alleviate myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury by reducing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). As an XO-derived product, H2O2 can act as a substrate of vascular peroxidase 1 (VPO1) to induce the generation of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a potent oxidant. This study aims to explore whether the XO/VPO1 pathway is involved in the anti-oxidative effects of allopurinol on the myocardial I/R injury. In a rat heart model of I/R, allopurinol alleviated I/R oxidative injury accompanied by decreased XO activity, XO-derived products (H2O2 and uric acid), and VPO1 expression (mRNA and protein). In a cardiac cell model of hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R), allopurinol or XO siRNA reduced H/R injury concomitant with decreased XO activity, VPO1 expression as well as the XO and VPO1-derived products (H2O2, uric acid, and HOCl). Although knockdown of VPO1 could also exert a beneficial effect on H/R injury, it did not affect XO activity, XO expression, and XO-derived products. Based on these observations, we conclude that the novel pathway of XO/VPO1 is responsible for, at least partly, myocardial I/R-induced oxidative injury, and allopurinol exerted the cardioprotective effects on myocardial I/R injury via inhibiting the XO/VPO1 pathway.

RESUMO

Lead halide based organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite (HPVK) materials combine the advantages of solution processing, high absorption coefficient, long charge diffusion length, and high mobility of inorganic framework. The recent interest in this field is mainly focused on solution-processable HPVK for energy conversion and different types of optoelectronics. The performance of HPVK optoelectronics is rivaling now that of conventional devices, but the stability of the HPVK device is now a major challenge in the field where chemists are expected to play more active roles. This Perspective summarizes the progress in the understanding of mechanism of the HPVK formation, and various applications in different fields such as solar cells, light-emitting diodes, lasers, photodetectors, and field-effect transistors. A personal view of the past developments and future challenges is also provided.
