RESUMO

Diagnostics of brain tumours still remains a serious problem in neurologist's career. Difficulties in proper diagnosing refer mainly to endocranial tumours with atypical clinical course. Frequency of brain tumours' vascular manifestation is assessed as 1-4%, and in most cases it is the kind of manifestation which corresponds with intracerebral bleedings and more seldom with ischaemic strokes. Reports on brain tumours with developments similar to transient brain ischaemia (1, 2, 3, 4) are published occasionally. In Neurology Clinic of the Medical Academy in Lublin, we conducted observation of two patients with brain tumours (one metastatic and the other one-primary), where the former as well as the latter case were treated as cerebral circulation failures at their initial stage. Application of typical vasoactive treatment brought about temporary regression of symptoms.

RESUMO

Nootropil exerts positive impact on both intracortical and cortico-subcortical conduction and increases ATP content in the nerve cell which leads to the increase of ribonucleic acid's synthesis necessary for long duration memory and proteins essential for the production of enzymes (3). The cerebral stroke can change the activity of the central vegetative neurons and induce generalized disturbances of the mechanism of metabolism, e. g. in phosphorus and phospholipid economy (1, 2).

RESUMO

Based on Polish and foreign literature the up-to-date knowledge on usefulness of measurement of the level of acute phase proteins in clinical diagnostics is presented. Acute phase proteins may serve as a quick, preliminary test which indicates bacterial infection or necrotic process. They are good markers of treatment efficacy and infectious (bacterial) complications in patients in a hopeless state or with a chronic disease. In neurological diagnostics they are useful in differentiation of bacterial and viral meningitis.

RESUMO

The purpose of the study was to investigate the dynamics of acute phase reactants concentrations in the blood changes of patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage in the earliest period of illness. The investigation was carried out in 20 patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage. The total sialic acid, haptoglobin and ceruloplasmin level in the blood of patients with subarachnoid haemorrhage was statistically significantly higher than in the control group.

RESUMO

There are varied causes of lesions of the facial nerve: 75% of them is idiopathic paralysis or Bell paralysis (1), then there are injuries, diseases of the ears (otitis media and externa, otic zoster) and carcinomas of neuron VII, cerebellopontine angle tumors, tumors of the pons, of the petrosal bone, the middle ear, leukemias, diabetes, tumors of the salivary gland (2, 3, 4). Especially careful diagnosing is required for the cases of the lesions of the peripheral neuron n. VII, where, despite conventional treatment, there is no distinct improvement or where it is necessary to determine the right etiopatogenic factor among several possible ones. The patient under observation merits particular attention because it is necessary to determine the underlying cause of the lesion of the peripheral neuron of the facial nerve.

RESUMO

The influence of piracetam on the level of inorganic and phospholipid phosphorus in blood of ischemic stroke patients was evaluated. In healthy patients piracetam (2G, i.v.) diminished the concentration of inorganic phosphorus and essentially lowered the content of ion connected with phospholipids. In stroke patients inorganic phosphorus was primarily enhanced and organic lowered. Treatment with piracetam lowered the concentration of both inorganic and phospholipid phosphorus in blood.

RESUMO

The effect of low-molecular dextran given on 6 days after cerebral infarction onset on the content of inorganic phosphorus and lipid-bound phosphorus was studied in 22 patients. The obtained results were compared with those in a control group. Low-molecular dextran caused a statistically significant decrease of the serum lipid-bound phosphorus level in healthy subjects and in patients, which was most pronounced on the sixth day of successive dextran administration, while it had no effect on serum inorganic phosphorus in the studied subjects.
