RESUMO

Observational studies have revealed that several sleep traits can impact ovarian function in women. However, there is no evidence suggesting associations between sleep traits and age at natural menopause (ANM). The objective of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between sleep traits (insomnia, sleep duration, daytime sleepiness) and ANM from the perspective of genetic variation. We selected the single-nucleotide polymorphisms from large-scale genome-wide association studies as instrumental variables and conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis on these single-nucleotide polymorphisms, including inverse variance weighting, MR-Egger, weighted median, simple mode and weighted mode. The Steiger test was employed to verify the correct causal directionality. The robustness of the MR analysis was examined through Cochran's Q test, horizontal pleiotropy test, and leave-one-out analysis. The results indicated that insomnia was causally associated with ANM (inverse variance weighting: ß = -0.982; 95% CI: -1.852 to -0.111, P = .027), with other analyses confirming the robustness of this finding. Steiger test and reverse MR Analysis validated the absence of a reverse causal association between the two. However, sleep duration and daytime sleepiness did not exhibit a causal effect on ANM. In summary, this study provides initial evidence that insomnia can contribute to an earlier onset of ANM. Nevertheless, further clinical studies are needed to elucidate these findings.

Iron red, a traditional Jingdezhen overglaze color, is primarily colored with iron oxide (Fe2O3). In traditional processes, the main ingredient for the iron red overglaze color, raw iron red, is produced by calcining iron vitriol (FeSO4·7H2O). Analysis of ancient iron red porcelain samples indicates that the coloration is unstable, ranging from bright red to dark red and occasionally to black. Addressing this, the present study, from a ceramic technology standpoint, conducts a series of calcination experiments on industrial iron vitriol at varying temperatures. Utilizing methodologies such as differential scanning calorimetry-thermogravimetry (DSC-TG), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy with X-ray energy dispersive spectrometry (SEM-EDS), and optical microscopy (OM), this research scientifically explores the impact of iron vitriol's calcination temperature on the coloration of traditional Jingdezhen iron red overglaze color. The findings indicate that from room temperature to 550 °C, the dehydration of iron vitriol resulted in the formation of Fe2(SO4)3 and a minimal amount of α-Fe2O3, rendering the iron red overglaze color a yellowish-red shade. At 650 °C, the coexistence of Fe2(SO4)3 and α-Fe2O3 imparted a brick-red color to the iron red. As the temperature was elevated to 700 °C, the desulfurization of Fe2(SO4)3 produced α-Fe2O3, transitioning the iron red to an orange red. With further temperature increase to 750 °C, the particle size of α-Fe2O3 grew and the crystal reflectivity decreased, resulting in a purplish-red hue. Throughout this stage, the powder remained in a single α-Fe2O3 phase. Upon further heating to 800 °C, the crystallinity of α-Fe2O3 enhanced, giving the iron red overglaze color a dark red or even black appearance.

Hazardous heavy metals and organic substances removal is of great significance for ensuring the safety of aquatic-ecosystem, yet the highly effective and selective extraction always remains challenging. To address this problem, magnetic hollow microcubes were fabricated through thermal carbonization of Fe3O4-COOH@ Î³-CD-MOFs, and core-shell structured precursors were in-situ greenly constructed on a large scale via microwave-assisted self-assembly strategy. As noted, the development of secondary crystallization was utilized to achieve uniform dispersion of cores within MOFs frameworks and thus improved magnetic and adsorption ability of composites. Acquired magnetic Fe3O4 @HC not only can harvest excellent extraction of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, and Cu of 129.87, 151.05, and 106.98 mg·g-1) but also exhibit highly selective adsorption ability for cationic organics (separation efficiency higher than 95.0 %). Impressively, Fe3O4 @HC achieved outstanding adsorption (60-80 %) of Cd in realistic mussel cooking broth with no obvious loss in amino acid. Characterizations better offer mechanistic insight into the enhanced selectivity of positively charged pollutants can be attributed to synergistic effect of ions exchange and electrostatic interaction of abundant oxygen-containing functional groups. Our study provides a feasible route by rationally developing core-shell structured composites to promote the practical applications of sustainable water treatment and value-added utilization of processing by-products.

In order to achieve the automatic planning of power transmission lines, a key step is to precisely recognize the feature information of remote sensing images. Considering that the feature information has different depths and the feature distribution is not uniform, a semantic segmentation method based on a new AS-Unet++ is proposed in this paper. First, the atrous spatial pyramid pooling (ASPP) and the squeeze-and-excitation (SE) module are added to traditional Unet, such that the sensing field can be expanded and the important features can be enhanced, which is called AS-Unet. Second, an AS-Unet++ structure is built by using different layers of AS-Unet, such that the feature extraction parts of each layer of AS-Unet are stacked together. Compared with Unet, the proposed AS-Unet++ automatically learns features at different depths and determines a depth with optimal performance. Once the optimal number of network layers is determined, the excess layers can be pruned, which will greatly reduce the number of trained parameters. The experimental results show that the overall recognition accuracy of AS-Unet++ is significantly improved compared to Unet.

Background: A survival benefit has been seen for both adjuvant nab-paclitaxel plus gemcitabine (AG) and S-1 chemotherapy compared to gemcitabine (GEM) for resectable pancreatic cancer in the APACT (2019) and JASPAC01 trials (2016), respectively. However, supporting evidence regarding the effectiveness of AG or S-1 compared to gemcitabine in real-world clinical practice remains lacking. Methods: Our study included all 246 pancreatic cancer patients who underwent surgical treatment and received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy with AG, S-1, or GEM except for those meeting exclusion criteria (R2 resection, neoadjuvant therapy, or synchronous malignancy) at Tianjin Medical University Cancer Institute and Hospital from June 2015 to July 2021. The primary outcome was overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). Results: In total, 246 patients were included, of whom 54(22%) received adjuvant AG, 103(41%) received adjuvant S-1, and 89(37%) received adjuvant GEM. Adjuvant S-1 was associated with a prolonged OS compared to GEM (median OS S-1 vs GEM: 27.0 vs 20.0 months; HR: 0.65, P = .016) and a significantly prolonged RFS compared to GEM (median RFS S-1 vs GEM: 20.0 vs 8.2 months; HR: 0.58, P = .002). After adjusting for known prognostic factors in multivariate Cox regression analysis, this survival benefit persists and is consistent in most subgroups in our subgroup analysis. However, no statistically significant differences in OS or RFS were seen between patients treated with AG and patients treated with GEM. Conclusions: In this retrospective real-world study, adjuvant S-1 chemotherapy was associated with improved survival compared to GEM while no differences in OS or RFS were observed for AG compared to GEM.

BACKGROUND: Carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 and histological grade can serve as indicators of the biological characteristics of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate the combined impact of preoperative CA19-9 levels and histological grade on prognosis and classification accuracy in PDAC patients. METHODS AND RESULTS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on 612 patients with PDAC who underwent curative pancreatectomy, and a biological risk model based on preoperative CA19-9 levels and histology grade was established. The prognostic importance of the biological risk model was evaluated, and its validity was confirmed through a validation cohort of 218 patients. The survival of patients with PDAC was independently associated with preoperative CA19-9 levels and histology grade, indicating a biological risk. This biological risk was incorporated into the eighth edition of the TNM staging system, leading to the development of a modified TNM (mTNM) staging system. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves demonstrated that the mTNM staging system had a significantly larger area under the curve (AUC) than the TNM staging system. The discriminatory capacity of the mTNM staging system was further validated in an independent cohort. CONCLUSION: Biological risk based on preoperative CA19-9 and histological grade could predict the survival of patients with PDAC. The incorporation of biological risk into the TNM staging system has the potential to enhance the accuracy of patient classification in PDAC, predicting patient survival and enabling the development of individualized treatment plans.

The combustion-supporting effect of steam to coke breeze in sintering has the potential to improve sinter quality and reduce pollutants emissions. The results show that increasing the by-product steam injection concentration (0.32-0.47vol%) and prolonging the injection time (5 min) within a proper range (10-15 min) can improve sinter quality. 2.13kgce/t-sinter of the fuel consumption was decreased by reducing coke breeze usage from 5.60 to 5.45% under the recommended parameters, with 15.16% decrease of CO in sintering waste gas. By comparing experimental data with thermodynamic calculations, although the reaction between CO and steam can reduce CO emission and generate H2, steam tends to react with coke breeze to generate H2 and CO (react at 674℃), and OH radical produced by H2 which can reduce the activation energy of CO oxidation reaction is the key to reducing pollutant emissions. The potential economic benefit of steam injection technology was calculated based on a 360m2 sintering machine (the annual sinter output is 3.2million tons), excluding the equipment modification and steam injection cost of $300,000; a profit of $737491.2 per year or 0.23 dollars per ton sinter can be achieved. Therefore, low-carbon and cleaner iron ore sintering production can be realized through applying by-product steam.

Gait analysis, as a common inspection method for human gait, can provide a series of kinematics, dynamics and other parameters through instrumental measurement. In recent years, gait analysis has been gradually applied to the diagnosis of diseases, the evaluation of orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation progress, especially, gait phase abnormality can be used as a clinical diagnostic indicator of Alzheimer Disease and Parkinson Disease, which usually show varying degrees of gait phase abnormality. This research proposed an inertial sensor based gait analysis method. Smoothed and filtered angular velocity signal was chosen as the input data of the 15-dimensional temporal characteristic feature. Hidden Markov Model and parameter adaptive model are used to segment gait phases. Experimental results show that the proposed model based on HMM and parameter adaptation achieves good recognition rate in gait phases segmentation compared to other classification models, and the recognition results of gait phase are consistent with ground truth. The proposed wearable device used for data collection can be embedded on the shoe, which can not only collect patients' gait data stably and reliably, ensuring the integrity and objectivity of gait data, but also collect data in daily scene and ambulatory outdoor environment.

BACKGROUND: Eimeria spp. are responsible for chicken coccidiosis which is the most important enteric protozoan disease resulting in tremendous economic losses in the poultry industry. Understanding the interaction between the avian cecal microbiota and coccidia is of interest in the development of alternative treatments that do not rely on chemotherapeutics and do not lead to drug resistance. METHODS: We utilized 16S rRNA gene sequencing to detect the dynamics of the cecal microbial community in AA broilers challenged with Eimeria tenella. Histopathological analysis of the cecum was also conducted. RESULTS: We found that microbial shifts occur during the infection. Lactobacillus, Faecalibacterium, Ruminococcaceae UCG-013, Romboutsia and Shuttleworthia decreased in abundance. However, the opportunistic pathogens Enterococcus and Streptococcus increased in abundance over time in response to the infection. CONCLUSIONS: Eimeria tenella disrupts the integrity of the cecal microbiota and could promote the establishment and growth of potentially pathogenic bacteria. Defining bacterial populations affected by coccidial infection might help identify bacterial markers for intestinal disease as well as populations or species that could be beneficial in maintaining and restoring gut homeostasis during and after infection with E. tenella.
