RESUMO

Uric acid is typically measured through blood tests, which can be inconvenient and uncomfortable for patients. Herein, we propose a wearable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) chip, incorporating a hydrogel membrane with integrated plasmonic trimers, for noninvasive monitoring of uric acid in sweat. The plasmonic trimers feature sub 5 nm nanogaps, generating strong electromagnetic fields to boost the Raman signal of surrounding molecules. Simultaneously, the hydrogel membrane pumps sweat through these gaps, efficiently capturing sweat biomarkers for SERS detection. The chip can achieve saturation adsorption of sweat within 5 min, eliminating variations in individual sweat production rates. Dynamic SERS tracking of uric acid and lactic acid levels during anaerobic exercise reveals a temporary suppression of uric acid metabolism, likely due to metabolic competition with lactic acid. Furthermore, long-term monitoring correlates well with blood test results, confirming that regular exercise helps reduce serum uric acid levels and supporting its potential in managing hyperuricemia.

Despite being recognized as a promising technique for treating high salinity water, membrane distillation (MD) has been plagued by the scaling of sparingly soluble salts. The growth of crystals can not only create additional resistance to evaporating water at the feed-membrane interface, but also alter the hydrophobic network to bridge the feed and distillate (i.e., result in the phenomenon of wetting). When recognizing the uncertain behaviors of calcium sulfate (CaSO4) scaling in MD, this study was motivated to ascertain whether the crystal-membrane interactions could be dependent on the variation in crystalline morphology. In particular, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was employed to characterize the scaling-induced wetting via a direct-observation-through-the-membrane (DOTM) mode, which mitigated the effects of developing an external scaling layer on resolving the crystal-membrane interactions. The improved in-situ characterization suggests that the crystalline morphology of CaSO4 could be effectively regulated by varying the stoichiometry of crystallizing ions; the richness of calcium in the aqueous environment for crystallization would be in favor of weakening the crystal-membrane interactions. The stoichiometry-dependent growth of CaSO4 crystals can be exploited to develop an effective strategy for preventing the hydrophobic network from being wetted or irreversibly damaged.

To discover new fungicides to protect food safety and quality, thirty-four novel pyrazole-amide-isothiazole compounds were designed, synthesised by using scaffold hopping theory for the first time. The bioactivity of all the target compounds against five plant pathogens (Including Penicillium digitatum, Physalospora piricola, Helminthosporium maydis, Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and Botrytis cinerea) were determined, the results showed that most of the compounds exhibited certain biological activities against B. cinerea in vitro. Compounds 7-XHU-6 had better antifungal activities than fluopyram with the EC50 values were 1.02, 1.78 mg/L, respectively. Moreover, the SDH inhibiting activities results indicated that 7-XHU-6 possessed outstanding activities with an IC50 value of 0.47 mg/L which better than fluopyram (IC50 = 0.88 mg/L). Besides, the in vivo experiments indicated that compound 7-XHU-6 had excellent protection efficiency and therapeutic efficiency. In addition, molecular docking studies demonstrated that compound 7-XHU-6 (-10 kcal/mol) has superior binding energy compared to fluopyram (-8.6 kcal/mol).

Introduction: Horizontal ecological compensation (HEC) has the potential to incentivize inclusive green growth in cities. Methods: Using the multi-stage difference-in-differences (DID) method, this study examines the impact of HEC policies as a quasi-natural experiment. Panel data are analyzed; the data pertain to 87 cities in the Yangtze River Basin, from 2007 to 2020. Results: The findings indicate that HEC policies significantly contribute to inclusive green growth, with consistent effects across different estimators. The moderating effect test reveals that urban industrial pollution levels and green innovation are key pathways through which HEC policies influence inclusive green growth. Further analysis shows that the positive impact of HEC is more pronounced in watersheds with high marketization and in downstream regions, suggesting that HEC may exacerbate regional disparities in inclusive green growth. Discussion: This study offers insights for China and also for other developing countries seeking to promote urban inclusive green growth and achieve sustainable development goals.

Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant primary brain tumor. GBM has an extremely poor prognosis and new treatments are badly needed. Efficient drug delivery to GBM is a major obstacle as the blood-brain barrier (BBB) prevents passage of the majority of cancer drugs into the brain. It is also recognized that the blood-brain tumor barrier (BTB) in the growing tumor represents a challenge. The BTB is heterogeneous and poorly characterized, but similar to the BBB it can prevent therapeutics from reaching effective intra-tumoral doses, dramatically hindering their potential. Here, we identified a 12-gene signature associated with the BTB, with functions related to vasculature development, morphogenesis and cell migration. We identified CDH5 as a core molecule in this set and confirmed its over-expression in GBM vasculature using spatial transcriptomics of GBM patient specimens. We found that the indirubin-derivative, 6-bromoindirubin acetoxime (BIA), could downregulate CDH5 and other BTB signature genes, causing endothelial barrier disruption in endothelial monolayers and BBB 3D spheroids in vitro. Treatment of tumor-bearing mice with BIA enabled increased intra-tumoral accumulation of the BBB non-penetrant chemotherapeutic drug cisplatin and potentiated cisplatin-mediated DNA damage by targeting DNA repair pathways. Finally, using an injectable BIA nanoparticle formulation, PPRX-1701, we significantly improved the efficacy of cisplatin in patient-derived GBM xenograms and prolonged their survival. Overall, our work reveals potential targets at the BTB for improved chemotherapy delivery and the bifunctional properties of BIA as a BTB modulator and potentiator of chemotherapy, supporting its further development.

To reduce the operational friction and scale DNA engineering, we report here an in vivo DNA assembly technology platform called SCRIVENER (Sequential Conjugation and Recombination for In Vivo Elongation of Nucleotides with low ERrors). SCRIVENER combines bacterial conjugation, in vivo DNA cutting, and in vivo homologous recombination to seamlessly stitch blocks of DNA together by mating E. coli in large arrays or pools. This workflow is simpler, cheaper, and higher throughput than current DNA assembly approaches that require DNA to be moved in and out of cells at different procedural steps. We perform over 5,000 assemblies with two to 13 DNA blocks that range from 240 bp to 8 kb and show that SCRIVENER is capable of assembling constructs as long as 23 kb at relatively high throughput and fidelity. Most SCRIVENER errors are deletions between long interspersed repeats. However, SCRIVENER can overcome these errors by enabling assembly and sequence verification at high replication at a nominal additional cost per replicate. We show that SCRIVENER can be used to build combinatorial libraries in arrays or pools, and that DNA blocks onboarded into the platform can be repurposed and reused with any other DNA block in high throughput without a PCR step. Because of these features, DNA engineering with SCRIVENER has the potential to accelerate design-build-test-learn cycles of DNA products.

Lithium (Li) metal anodes are considered one of the most promising anodes for high-performance batteries with ultra-high specific energy density. However, uncontrolled dendrite growth and the unsuitability of common systems for high voltage hinder the development of Li metal batteries with long cycle life. Herein, we report a rationally designed artificial solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) for Li metal anodes, incorporating LiNO3 and lithium difluoro(oxalato)borate (LiDFOB) as additives within a porous poly (vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) polymer skeleton (referred to as PNF). LiNO3 and LiDFOB can release and synergistically react at the electrode surface, leading to the in situ generation of a homogeneously distributed inorganic/organic SEI during the electrochemical process. This SEI improves homogeneity, ionic conductivity and mechanical stability, contributing to the suppression of electrolyte side reactions and Li dendrite growth. Moreover, a uniform CEI with high Li+ conductivity can be constructed on the NCM811 particles, further enhancing the structural integrity of the NCM811 cathode. As a result, the artificial SEI layer on Li metal anodes enables stable cycling of Li-Cu half cells in an ester-based electrolyte and Li-LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 full cell even at a high voltage of 4.5 V. This work provides new insights into designing homogeneous SEIs for Li metal batteries.

Background: The gut microbiota has been demonstrated to have a significant role in the pathogenesis and progression of a variety of diseases, including prostate cancer, prostatitis, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Potential links between prostate diseases, immune cells and the gut microbiota have not been adequately investigated. Methods: MR studies were conducted to estimate the effects of instrumental variables obtained from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of 196 gut microbial taxa and 731 immune cells on the risk of prostate diseases. The primary method for analysing causal relationships was inverse variance-weighted (IVW) analysis, and the MR results were validated through various sensitivity analyses. Results: MR analysis revealed that 28 gut microbiome taxa and 75 immune cell types were significantly associated with prostate diseases. Furthermore, reverse MR analysis did not support a causal relationship between prostate diseases and the intestinal microbiota or immune cells. Finally, the results of the mediation analysis indicated that Secreting Treg % CD4 Treg, Activated & resting Treg % CD4 Treg, and Mo MDSC AC inhibited the role of the class Mollicutes in reducing the risk of PCa. In prostatitis, CD8+ T cells on EM CD8br hinder the increased risk associated with the genus Eubacterium nodatum group. Interestingly, in BPH, CD28- CD25++CD8br AC and CD16-CD56 on HLA DR+ NK promoted the role of the genus Dorea in reducing the risk of BPH. Conclusion: This study highlights the complex relationships among the gut microbiota, immune cells and prostate diseases. The involvement of the gut microbiota in regulating immune cells to impact prostate diseases could provide novel methods and concepts for its therapy and management.

OBJECTIVES: There is currently no evidence documenting the clinical characteristics and prognosis of non-high-risk patients with incidental stage T1 lung cancer (LC). The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of non-high-risk patients with incidental stage T1 LC. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included patients with incidental stage T1 LC who were diagnosed pathologically at the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between 1st Jan 2019 and 31st Dec 2023. The follow-up time for all participants concluded on 31st Jan 2024, or upon death. All included patients were divided into non-high-risk (observation) and high-risk (control) groups based on the 2021 US preventative services task force recommendations. The primary outcomes were overall survival probability and LC-specific survival probability. The secondary outcomes were clinical characteristics, including demographic variables, histological types and TNM staging. RESULTS: We studied 1876 patients with incidental stage T1 LC. Of these, 1491 (79.48%) non-high-risk patients were included in the observation group, and the remaining 385 (20.52%) high-risk patients composed the control group. The follow-up interval was between 0 and 248 months for all participants, with a median time of 41.64 ± 23.85 months. The patients in the observation group were younger and had smaller tumors, more adenocarcinomas, and earlier disease stages than those in the control group (p ≤ 0.001). The overall survival probability (HR = 0.23, [95% CI: 0.18, 0.31], p < 0.001) and the LC-specific survival probability (HR = 0.23, [95% CI: 0.17, 0.31], p < 0.001) for the patients in the observation group were also both higher than those in the control group. The results appeared to be consistent across important subgroups. CONCLUSION: In this study, non-high-risk patients with incidental stage T1 LC were younger, had smaller tumors, had more adenocarcinomas, had a lower probability of metastasis, and had longer survival than did high-risk patients.

The relationship between distinct dietary selenium intake and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is still a topic of uncertainty. This study examined the relationship between dietary selenium intake and T2D risk among middle-aged and older Chinese adults. Dietary selenium intake was assessed through three 24 h recalls, using data from the China Health and Nutrition Survey. To investigate the relationship and the potential dose-response pattern between selenium intake and the likelihood of developing T2D, we employed both the restricted cubic spline analysis and the Cox proportional hazards model as our analytical tools. A cohort of 5970 participants aged ≥ 50 years was followed for an average of 5.44 years. The results revealed a V-shaped correlation between selenium intake and T2D risk, with the lowest risk observed at approximately 45 µg/day. Below this level, the risk decreased with an increasing selenium intake, while the risk increased between 45 and 100 µg/day. No significant association was found beyond 100 µg/day. These findings suggest that both low and high selenium consumption may increase T2D risk, highlighting the importance of maintaining a balanced selenium intake for T2D prevention.

This work pioneers to combine fast self-assembly of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) nanocage-based giant surfactants with high etching contrast and directed self-assembly for reliable long-range lateral order to create well-aligned sub-10 nm line nanopatterns via reactive ion etching (RIE). Polystyrene-block-oligo(dimethylsiloxane) substituted POSS (PS-b-oDMS7POSS) with seven oligo(dimethylsiloxane) at the corners of the POSS nanocage and one polystyrene (PS) tail is designed and synthesized as a giant surfactant with self-assembly behaviors like block copolymer (BCP). In contrast to BCP, oDMS7POSS gives a volume-persistent "nanoatom" particle with higher mobility for fast self-assembly and higher segregation strength with PS for smaller feature size. By taking advantage of directed self-assembly using nano-trench fabricated by electron beam lithography, well-ordered nanostructured monolayer with well-aligned parallel oDMS7POSS cylinders can be formed by confined self-assembly within the nano-trench. With the optimization of the RIE treatment using O2 as an etchant, the high etching contrast from the oDMS7POSS and PS gives the formation of well-defined line nanopatterns with sub-10 nm critical dimension that can serve as a mask for pattern transfer in lithography. These results demonstrate a cost-effective approach for nanopatterning by utilizing a creatively designed giant surfactant with sub-10 nm feature size and excellent etching contrast for modern lithographic applications.

BACKGROUND: Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is very common worldwide, and alcohol consumption is a notable contributing factor. Researches have shown that gut microbiota can be influenced by alcohol consumption and is an important mediator in regulating Th17 cell immunity. However, it is still unclear the exact mechanism by which alcohol exacerbates the CP/CPPS and the role of gut microbiota in this process. METHOD: We first constructed the most-commonly used animal model for CP/CPPS, the experimental autoimmune prostatitis (EAP) model, through immunoassay. Based on this, mice were divided into EAP group and alcohol-consuming EAP group. By 16S rRNA sequencing and non-targeted metabolomics analysis, differential gut microbiota and their metabolites between the two groups were identified. Subsequently, metabolomics detection targeting cholesterols was carried out to identify the exact difference in cholesterol. Furthermore, multiple methods such as flow cytometry and immunohistochemistry were used to detect the differentiation status of Th17 cells and severity of prostatitis treated with 27-hydroxycholesterol (the differential cholesterol) and its upstream regulatory factor-sterol regulatory element-binding protein 2 (SREBP2). Lastly, fecal transplantation was conducted to preliminary study on whether alcohol intake exacerbates EAP in immune receptor mice. RESULTS: Alcohol intake increased the proportion of Th17 cells and levels of related inflammatory factors. It also led to an altered gut bacterial richness and increased gut permeability. Further metabolomic analysis showed that there were significant differences in a variety of metabolites between EAP and alcohol-fed EAP mice. Metabolic pathway enrichment analysis showed that the pathways related to cholesterol synthesis and metabolism were significantly enriched, which was subsequently confirmed by detecting the expression of metabolic enzymes. By targeting cholesterol synthesis, 27-hydroxycholesterol was significantly increased in alcohol-fed EAP mice. Subsequent mechanistic research showed that supplementation with 27-hydroxycholesterol could aggravate EAP and promote Th17 cell differentiation both in vivo and in vitro, which is regulated by SREBP2. In addition, we observed that fecal transplantation from mice with alcohol intake aggravated EAP in immunized recipient mice fed a normal diet. CONCLUSION: Our study is the first to show that alcohol intake promotes Th17 cell differentiation and exacerbates EAP through microbiota-derived cholesterol biosynthesis.

Phenotypic plasticity, which involves phenotypic transformation in the absence of genetic change, may serve as a strategy for organisms to survive in complex and highly fluctuating environments. However, its reaction norm, molecular basis, and evolution remain unclear in most organisms, especially microbial eukaryotes. In this study, we explored these questions by investigating the reaction norm, regulation, and evolution of phenotypic plasticity in the cosmopolitan marine free-living ciliates Glauconema spp., which undergo significant phenotypic changes in response to food shortages. This study led to the de novo assembly of macronuclear genomes using long-read sequencing, identified hundreds of differentially expressed genes associated with phenotypic plasticity in different life stages, validated the function of two of these genes, and revealed that the reaction norm of body shape in response to food density follows a power-law distribution. Purifying selection may be the dominant evolutionary force acting on the genes associated with phenotypic plasticity, and the overall data support the hypothesis that phenotypic plasticity is a trait maintained by natural selection. This study provides novel insight into the developmental genetics of phenotypic plasticity in non-model unicellular eukaryotes and sheds light on the complexity and long evolutionary history of this important survival strategy.

RAS guanyl releasing protein 1 (RASGRP1) is a guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) characterized by the presence of a RAS superfamily GEF domain. It functions as a diacylglycerol (DAG)-regulated nucleotide exchange factor, specifically activating RAS through the exchange of bound GDP for GTP. Activation of RAS by RASGRP1 has a wide range of downstream effects at the cellular level. Thus, it is not surprising that many diseases are associated with RASGRP1 disorders. Here, we present an overview of the structure and function of RASGRP1, its crucial role in the development, expression, and regulation of immune cells, and its involvement in various signaling pathways. This review comprehensively explores the relationship between RASGRP1 and various diseases, elucidates the underlying molecular mechanisms of RASGRP1 in each disease, and identifies potential therapeutic targets. This study provides novel insights into the role of RASGRP1 in insulin secretion and highlights its potential as a therapeutic target for diabetes. The limitations and challenges associated with studying RASGRP1 in disease are also discussed.

Metastasis is the greatest clinical challenge for UTUCs, which may have distinct molecular and cellular characteristics from earlier cancers. Herein, we provide single-cell transcriptome profiles of UTUC para cancer normal tissue, primary tumor lesions, and lymphatic metastases to explore possible mechanisms associated with UTUC occurrence and metastasis. From 28,315 cells obtained from normal and tumor tissues of 3 high-grade UTUC patients, we revealed the origin of UTUC tumor cells and the homology between metastatic and primary tumor cells. Unlike the immunomicroenvironment suppression of other tumors, we found no immunosuppression in the tumor microenvironment of UTUC. Moreover, it is imperative to note that stromal cells are pivotal in the advancement of UTUC. This comprehensive single-cell exploration enhances our comprehension of the molecular and cellular dynamics of metastatic UTUCs and discloses promising diagnostic and therapeutic targets in cancer-microenvironment interactions.

Therefore, a total of 89 patients with advanced NSCLC, who underwent chemotherapy between August 15 2022 and August 30 2023 at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University (Guangzhou, China), were retrospectively studied. Patients were divided into the PD (n=21) and disease stability (non-PD; n=68) groups and their clinical data were compared. The thresholds for predicting PD were identified using receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curves. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was carried out to assess the association between peripheral blood markers and the incidence of PD. Therefore, post-chemotherapy, significant differences in white blood cell count, non-stimulated CD4+ cells ATP and sATPCD4 levels were obtained between patients in the PD and non-PD groups (P<0.05). In addition, sATPCD4 levels were notably decreased in the PD group compared with the non-PD group. Furthermore, ROC analysis revealed that the predictive threshold for PD was 224.5 ng/ml [area under the curve=0.887; 95% confidence interval, 0.811-0.963]. Additionally, patients with low immunity (ATP <224.5 ng/ml) exhibited a higher risk of PD compared with the high-immunity group (ATP >224.5 ng/ml; P<0.0001). Finally, multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that sATPCD4 could serve as an independent factor for predicting NSCLC progression. Overall, the current study predicted that immune function could be possibly associated with the risk of PD in patients with NSCLC.

OBJECTIVE: To explore the dairy consumption among children and adolescents aged 7-17 in China. METHODS: 10 rounds of follow-up data from the "China Health and Nutrition Survey" from 1991 to 2018 were collected, and individuals aged 7-17 were selected as the study subjects. Dietary data was collected by using 3-day 24-hour dietary review method and household weighing accounting method(edible oils and seasonings). Dairy consumption was calculated by converting various dairy products into liquid milk intake using the China Food Composition. After excluding those with missing demographic information, missing data from the "3 days and 24 hours" dietary survey, and abnormal daily energy intake, 18 529 participants were included in the final analysis. Joinpoint regression model was used to analyze the trend of changes in dairy intake. RESULTS: The dairy consumption rate increased from 2.8% in 1991 to 42.3% in 2018, while it increased from 8.4% to 58.8% in urban and from 0.9% to 32.1% in rural areas. Meanwhile, the proportion of people whose dairy intake reaches the recommended intake(300 g/d) increased from 0.2% to 3.0%, and the proportion in rural area was 2.0%, which was lower than that in urban areas(4.9%). From 1991 to 2018, dairy intake increased at a rate of 12.97%(P=0.02), and the growth rate of urban and rural areas were 9.79%(P=0.03) and 15.67%(P<0.01), respectively. There was a faster growth trend from 1991-2004 compared to 2004-2018. The growth rate in urban and rural areas also showed different growth trends. CONCLUSION: The dairy intake of children and adolescents aged 7-17 in China improved significantly from 1991 to 2018, with higher consumption rate in urban areas than in rural areas, but it still need to be improved for health.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze food carbon footprint and its socio-demographic disparities among adults in China. METHODS: A total of 12 777 adults aged 18 years and above from the China Health and Nutrition Survey in 2018 who have completed dietary and socio-demographic data were analyzed. The information of food intake were collected by 24 h recalls combined with the weighing of household seasonings. Food consumption was converted into energy intake by the China Food Composition Table. Carbon footprint of 26 food groups were calculated by the food carbon footprint database based on life-cycle assessment(LCA), multinomial logit model was used to analyze the association of socio-demographic factors and food carbon footprint. RESULTS: Average food carbon footprint were decreased with increasing age while increased with increasing income and education levels, and was higher among male than that among female, was higher among urban residents than that among rural residents, was higher in the south than that in the north. Multinomial logit analysis showed that compared with people aged 18-44, the likelihood of occurring high carbon footprint in 60y and above group were 29%(OR=0.71, 95%CI 0.61-0.83) lower than that occurring low carbon footprint. Women were 11%(OR=0.89, 95%CI 0.81-0.99) and 25%(OR=0.75, 95%CI 0.67-0.84) less likely to appear medium and high carbon footprint than low carbon footprint, compared with their male counterparts. In comparison to people living in cities, rural dwellers were 24%(OR=0.76, 95%CI 0.69-0.85) and 38%(OR=0.62, 95%CI 0.55-0.70) less likely to appear medium and high carbon footprint than low carbon footprint. People in the south were 3.89 times(95%CI 3.52-4.30) and 11.35 times(95%CI 10.01-12.88) more likely to occur medium and high carbon footprint than low carbon footprint, compared with people in the north. Participants were more likely to occur medium carbon footprint and high carbon footprint with the increasing income level(OR>1), and were more likely to occur high carbon footprint with the increasing education level(OR>1). CONCLUSION: The food carbon footprint of adults in China in 2018 show different socio-demographic disparities, gender, income and education level are significant factors.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the dietary patterns changes of young people aged 18-35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) from 1989 to 2018. METHODS: Using the data of China Health and Nutrition Survey, a total of 25 400 young people aged 18-35 with complete dietary and sociodemographic information from 1989 to 2018 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) were selected as the research objects. Nutrition survey was carried out by using 3 consecutive days of 24-hour review method combined with weighing accounting method. Energy and nutrient intake was calculated based on food composition list. The principal component cluster analysis was used to select food groups and K-mean cluster was uesd to extract dietary patterns. Dwass-Steel-Critchlow-Fligner was used to test the difference of food intake in different dietary patterns. Cochran-Armitage trend test was to analyze the change of dietary patterns with the years. Chi-square test was to analyze the difference of people with different dietary patterns in 2018. RESULTS: The dietary patterns of young people aged 18-35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) were mainly divided into three categories: "traditional rice", "traditional pasta" and "high-quality protein". In 2018, the proportion of "traditional rice" dietary patterns was higher for men than for women, and the proportion of "high-quality protein" dietary patterns was lower than for women. The proportion of "traditional pasta" dietary pattern in people aged 25-35 was higher than that aged 18-24, and the proportion of "high-quality protein" dietary pattern was lower than that aged 18-24. The proportion of people in urban with "traditional rice" dietary pattern was lower than that in rural areas, and the proportion of "high-quality protein" dietary pattern was higher than that in rural areas. The northern region was dominated by "traditional pasta" dietary pattern, while the southern region was dominated by "traditional rice" dietary pattern, and the proportion of people with "high-quality protein" dietary pattern was higher in the northern region than in the southern region. With the increase of education level and income level, the proportion of people with "high-quality protein" dietary pattern showed an increasing trend. From 1989 to 2018, the "traditional rice" dietary pattern had always maintained a high proportion among young people aged 18-35 in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities) in China, and the "traditional pasta" dietary pattern had been decreasing since 2009, and the "high-quality protein" dietary pattern had significantly increased since 2011. CONCLUSION: From 1989 to 2018, the proportion of young people aged 18-35 with reasonable dietary pattern has increased in 15 provinces(autonomous regions, municipalities), but the traditional dietary pattern still needs to be improved.

Microorganisms play a central role in sustaining soil ecosystems and agriculture, and these functions are usually associated with their complex life history. Yet, the regulation and evolution of life history have remained enigmatic and poorly understood, especially in protozoa, the third most abundant group of organisms in the soil. Here, we explore the life history of a cosmopolitan species-Colpoda steinii. Our analysis has yielded a high-quality macronuclear genome for C. steinii, with size of 155 Mbp and 37,123 protein-coding genes, as well as mean intron length of ~93 bp, longer than most other studied ciliates. Notably, we identify two possible whole-genome duplication events in C. steinii, which may account for its genome being about twice the size of C. inflata's, another co-existing species. We further resolve the gene expression profiles in diverse life stages of C. steinii, which are also corroborated in C. inflata. During the resting cyst stage, genes associated with cell death and vacuole formation are upregulated, and translation-related genes are downregulated. While the translation-related genes are upregulated during the excystment of resting cysts. Reproductive cysts exhibit a significant reduction in cell adhesion. We also demonstrate that most genes expressed in specific life stages are under strong purifying selection. This study offers a deeper understanding of the life history evolution that underpins the extraordinary success and ecological functions of microorganisms in soil ecosystems.IMPORTANCEColpoda species, as a prominent group among the most widely distributed and abundant soil microorganisms, play a crucial role in sustaining soil ecosystems and promoting plant growth. This investigation reveals their exceptional macronuclear genomic features, including significantly large genome size, long introns, and numerous gene duplications. The gene expression profiles and the specific biological functions associated with the transitions between various life stages are also elucidated. The vast majority of genes linked to life stage transitions are subject to strong purifying selection, as inferred from multiple natural strains newly isolated and deeply sequenced. This substantiates the enduring and conservative nature of Colpoda's life history, which has persisted throughout the extensive evolutionary history of these highly successful protozoa in soil. These findings shed light on the evolutionary dynamics of microbial eukaryotes in the ever-fluctuating soil environments. This integrative research represents a significant advancement in understanding the life histories of these understudied single-celled eukaryotes.
