RESUMO

Sodium-ion layered oxides are one of the most highly regarded sodium-ion cathode materials and are expected to be used in electric vehicles and large-scale grid-level energy storage systems. However, highly air-sensitive issues limit sodium-ion layered oxide cathode materials to maximize cost advantages. Industrial and scientific researchers have been developing cost-effective air sensitivity treatment strategies with little success because the impurity formation mechanism is still unclear. Using density functional theory calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics simulations, this work shows that the poor air stability of O3-type NaMn1/3Fe1/3Ni1/3O2 (NMFNO) may be as follows: (1) low percentage of nonreactive (003) surface; (2) strong surface adsorption capacity and high surface reactivity; and (3) instability of the surface sodium ions. Our physical images point out that the high reactivity of the NMFNO surface originates from the increase in electron loss and unpaired electrons (magnetic moments) of the surface oxygen active site as well as the enhanced metal coactivation effect due to the large radius of the sodium ion. We also found that the hydrolysis reaction requires a higher reactivity of the surface oxygen active site, while the carbon hybridization mode transformation in carbonate formation depends mainly on metal activation and does not even require the involvement of surface oxygen active sites. Based on the calculation results and our proposed physical images, we discuss the feasibility of these treatment strategies (including surface morphology modulation, cation/anion substitution, and surface configuration design) for air-sensitive issues.

RESUMO

Microorganisms, physical factors such as temperature or mechanical injury, and chemical factors such as free monomers from composite resin are the main causes of dental pulp diseases. Current clinical treatment methods for pulp diseases include the root canal therapy, vital pulp therapy and regenerative endodontic therapy. Regenerative endodontic therapy serves the purpose of inducing the regeneration of new functional pulp tissues through autologous revascularization or pulp tissue engineering. This article first discusses the current clinical methods and reviews strategies as well as the research outcomes regarding the pulp regeneration. Then the in vivo models, the prospects and challenges for regenerative endodontic therapy were further discussed.

RESUMO

Liquid chromatography-tandem with high-resolution mass spectrometry (LCHRMS) has proven challenging for annotating multiple small molecules within complex matrices due to the complexities of chemical structure and raw LCHRMS data, as well as limitations in previous literatures and reference spectra related to those molecules. In this study, we developed a molecular networking assisted automatic database screening (MN/auto-DBS) strategy to examine the combined effect of MS1 exact mass screening and MS2 similarity analysis. We compiled all previously reported compounds from the relevant literatures. With the development of a Python software, the in-house database (DB) was created by automatically calculating the m/z and data from experimental MS1 hits were rapid screened with DB. We then performed a feature-based molecular network analysis on the auto-MS2 data for supplementary identification of unreported compounds, including clustered FBMN and annotated GNPS compounds. Finally, the results from both strategies were merged and manually curated for correct structural assignment. To demonstrate the applicability of MN/auto-DBS, we selected the Huangqi-Danshen herb pair (HD), commonly used in prescriptions or patent medicines to treat diabetic nephropathy and cerebrovascular disease. A total of 223 compounds were annotated, including 65 molecules not previously reported in HD, such as aromatic polyketides, coumarins, and diarylheptanoids. Using MN/auto-DBS, we can profile and mine a wide range of complex matrices for potentially new compounds.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical effect of Tongdu Xingshen (promoting the governor vessel and regaining consciousness) acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cognitive training and the simple cognitive training for post-stroke mild cognitive impairment (PSMCI). METHODS: Eighty-four patients with PSMCI were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 42 cases in each group (3 cases in the observation group and 2 cases in the control group dropped off). The observation group was treated by Tongdu Xingshen acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cognitive training, acupuncture was given at Baihui (GV 20), Sishencong (EX-HN 1), Shenting (GV 24), etc., and moxibustion was given at Shenting (GV 24) , Baihui (GV 20), Shendao (GV 11), Fengfu (GV 16) and Xinshu (BL 15). The control group was only given cognitive training. All the above treatment was given once a day, 5 times a week, for 4 consecutive weeks. The scores of Montreal cognitive assessment (MoCA), mini-mental state examination (MMSE), activity of daily living (ADL) and stroke-specific quality of life (SS-QOL) were compared between the two groups before treatment, after treatment, 4 weeks and 12 weeks after treatment. RESULTS: After treatment, 4 weeks and 12 weeks after treatment, the MoCA, MMSE and SS-QOL scores of the two groups were all higher than those before treatment (P<0.05), and the ADL scores were lower than those before treatment (P<0.05). In the observation group, the MoCA and MMSE scores were higher than those of the control group after treatment, 4 weeks and 12 weeks after treatment (P<0.05), and the SS-QOL score was higher than that of the control group 12 weeks after treatment (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Both Tongdu Xingshen acupuncture and moxibustion combined with cognitive training and simple cognitive training can improve cognitive function, daily living ability and quality of life in patients with PSMCI, and the combined therapy is superior to simple cognitive training in improving cognitive function and long-term quality of life in patients with PSMCI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As one of the most abundant and destructive pests in agriculture, aphids cause significant damage to crops due to their sap-taking and as virus vectors. Chemical insecticides are the most effective method to control aphids, but they bring insecticide resistance problems and harm nontarget organisms, especially bees, therefore the search for novel eco-friendly aphid control agents with low bee toxicity is urgent. Insect kinins are a class of small neuropeptides that control important functions in insects. In our previous study, we found insect kinin analog IV-3 has good aphicidal activity and the location of the aromatic ring on the side chain of Phe2 is the key to the formation of the ß-turn resulting in the biological activity of insect kinin analogs. However, there are few studies on insect kinin Phe2 substitution and modification, and its structure-activity relationship is still unclear. RESULTS: In this project, 44 insect kinin analogs with the Phe2 modification, replacing it with different natural or unnatural amino acids, were designed and synthesized based on the lead IV-3 to explore the role of the Phe2 residues. Bioassays with soybean aphids of Aphis glycines indicated that nine analogs have better aphicidal activity than the lead IV-3. In particular, compound L25 exhibits excellent aphicidal activity (LC50  = 0.0047 mmol L-1 ) and has low toxicity to bees. Furthermore, a reliable three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) was established to produce a helpful clue that introducing hydrophobic groups away from the backbone chain is beneficial to improve aphicidal activity. CONCLUSION: The residue Phe2 of insect kinin analogs is the key position and has a significant impact on the activity. L25 has a high toxicity for aphids, while a low toxicity to bees, and therefore can be considered as a lead compound to develop new biosafe aphid control agents. Finally, we provide a useful 3D-QSAR model as theoretical guidance for further structural optimization. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry.

RESUMO

Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) contains active ingredients, such as flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins. Nevertheless, few studies have focused on essential oil from the receptacle of sunflower (SEO). In this work, we investigated the chemical composition and antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of SEO. The yield of SEO was about 0.42% (v/w) by hydrodistillation. A total of 68 volatile components of SEO were putatively identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The main constituents of SEO were α-pinene (26.00%), verbenone (7.40%), terpinolene (1.69%) and α-terpineol (1.27%). The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of SEO against P. aeruginosa and S. aureus was 0.2 mg/mL. The MIC of SEO against S. cerevisiae was 3.2 mg/mL. The MIC of SEO against E. coli and Candida albicans was 6.4 mg/mL. The results showed that SEO had high antibacterial and antifungal activities. Three different analytical assays (DPPH, ABTS and iron ion reducing ability) were used to determine the antioxidant activities. The results showed that SEO had antioxidant activities. To summarize, the results in this study demonstrate the possibility for the development and application of SEO in potential natural preservatives and medicines due to its excellent antimicrobial and antioxidant activities.

RESUMO

We have previously reported that high expression of divalent metal transporter 1 (DMT1) plays a crucial role in iron dyshomeostasis and ß-amyloid (Aß) peptide generation in the brain of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Recent studies have shown that Nedd4 family interacting protein 1 (Ndfip1) can degrade DMT1 through ubiquitination pathway and reduce the accumulation of intracellular iron. The present study aims to evaluate whether Ndfip1 is involved in AD pathogenesis through mediating DMT1 degradation and iron metabolism. ß-amyloid precursor protein/presenilin 1 (APP/PS1) transgenic mouse and Ndfip1 transfected SH-SY5Y cells were used in this study. Immunohistochemistry and Western blot were performed to examine the distribution and expression levels of Ndfip1 and DMT1. In addition, ELISA and calcein fluorescence were carried out for analyzing the levels of Aß peptide and iron influx, respectively. The results showed that Ndfip1 immunoreactivity was decreased in the cortex and hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice, compared with wild type (WT) controls. Colocalization of Ndfip1 and Aß within senile plaques could be observed. Immunoblot analyses showed that low expression of Ndfip1 and high expression of DMT1 proteins were detected in APP/PS1 mouse brain, compared with age-matched WT animals. Overexpression of Ndfip1 down-regulated DMT1 expression, and reduced iron influx and Aß secretion in SH-SY5Y cells. Further, overexpressed Ndfip1 significantly attenuated iron-induced cell damage in Ndfip1 transfected cells. The present study suggests that lower expression of Ndfip1 might be associated with the pathogenesis of AD, through decreasing DMT1 degradation and increasing iron accumulation in the brain.

RESUMO

In this work, we explored the formation processes of suspended hybrid thin films of thiol-capped Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) inside metal oxide tubular structures. We found that a balance between in-film interactions of the AuNPs and boundary interactions with metal oxides is a key in making these special organic-inorganic thin films. The hybrid films process many processing advantages and flexibilities, such as controllable film thickness, interfacial shape and inter-AuNPs distance, tuning of particle sizes, thiol population, chain lengths, and other new properties by introducing functional groups to thiol chains. Among their many unique features, the assembly-disassembly property may be useful for future on-off or store-release applications.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of CT and MRI in the diagnosis of avascular necrosis of the vertebral body (ANV). METHODS: Twelve ANV patients were retrospectively analysed by their medical history, clinic manifestation, CT and MRI. Twelve AVN patients were treated with percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP). The pain level of each patient was assessed, both before and after the procedure, using a visual analogue scale (VAS). RESULTS: All the patients had ANV in the thoracolumbar spine. The intravertebral vaccum phenomenon (VP), with gas or fluid-like collection, was seen on computed tomographic (CT) images and magnetic resonance images (MRI). In the early stages, the VP zone was characterized by fluid-like collection, and was low intensity on T1, high intensity on T2. In the latter stages, the margin of VP zone had sclerotic change on CT scan. VAS score decreased from preoperative (9.08 +/- 0.76) to (2.33 +/- 1.43) at 3 days after PVP. CONCLUSION: ANV must be considered as a possible diagnosis of VP secondary to osteoporotic vertebral fractures. Both CT and MRI could provide reliable diagnostic proof for ANV. PVP is proved to be an effective and safe procedure for the treatment of ANV, and could provid quick pain relief.
