RESUMO

Satisfactory reduction of some displaced pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures is not achievable via closed reduction, thus necessitating open procedure, which increases the incidence of complications. Using percutaneous prying-up technique to assist closed reduction may reduce the requirement for transform to an open operation. We retrospectively reviewed displaced pediatric supracondylar humerus fractures treated by the same surgeon from September 2021 to January 2024,with 134 subjects meeting criteria for inclusion. These children were divided into two groups. In Group A(n = 61),the prying-up technique was used to assist with closed reduction of fractures. Group B(n = 73) included fractures treated with conventional manual traction. To balance group size,12 fractures from group A were randomly removed, leaving a final 61 patients in each group. Demographics, operative time, the rate of failed closed reduction, complications and radiographic results were analyzed. The operative time was significantly less in Group A as compared with Group B(mean difference, - 7.22; [95% confidence interval (CI), - 8.49 to - 5.94]; p < 0.001). The rate of failed closed reduction were significantly lower in Group A as compared to Group B(2 of 61 vs. 10 of 61, p = 0.015).However, we found no difference in terms of the radiographic results and complications between the two groups(p > 0.05). percutaneous prying-up technique significantly improves the efficiency of surgery and reduces rate of failed closed reduction of supracondylar humeral fractures in pediatric patients. Objectives: This study assesses the perceptions and attitudes of Chinese radiologists concerning the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in the diagnosis of lung nodules. Material and Methods: An anonymous questionnaire, consisting of 26 questions addressing the usability of AI systems and comprehensive evaluation of AI technology, was distributed to all radiologists affiliated with Beijing Anzhen Hospital and Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital. The data collection was conducted between July 19, and 21, 2023. Results: Of the 90 respondents, the majority favored the AI system's convenience and usability, reflected in "good" system usability scale (SUS) scores (Mean ± standard deviation [SD]: 74.3 ± 11.9). General usability was similarly well-received (Mean ± SD: 76.0 ± 11.5), while learnability was rated as "acceptable" (Mean ± SD: 67.5 ± 26.4). Most radiologists noted increased work efficiency (Mean Likert scale score: 4.6 ± 0.6) and diagnostic accuracy (Mean Likert scale score: 4.2 ± 0.8) with the AI system. Views on AI's future impact on radiology careers varied (Mean ± SD: 3.2 ± 1.4), with a consensus that AI is unlikely to replace radiologists entirely in the foreseeable future (Mean ± SD: 2.5 ± 1.1). Conclusion: Radiologists at two leading Beijing hospitals generally perceive the AI-assisted lung nodule diagnostic system positively, citing its user-friendliness and effectiveness. However, the system's learnability requires enhancement. While AI is seen as beneficial for work efficiency and diagnostic accuracy, its long-term career implications remain a topic of debate.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents is associated with an increased risk of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), but studies on the relationship between exposure to PM2.5 constituents and the risk of GDM are still limited. METHODS: A total of 17,855 pregnant women in Guangzhou were recruited for this retrospective cohort study, and the time-varying average concentration method was used to estimate individual exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents during pregnancy. Logistic regression was used to assess the relationship between exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents and the risk of GDM, and the expected inflection point between exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents and the risk of GDM was estimated using logistic regression combined with restricted cubic spline curves. Stratified analyses and interaction tests were performed. RESULTS: After adjustment for confounders, exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents (NO3-, NH4+, and OM) was positively associated with the risk of GDM during pregnancy, especially when exposure to NO3- and NH4+ occurred in the first to second trimester, with each interquartile range increase the risk of GDM by 20.2% (95% CI: 1.118-1.293) and 18.2% (95% CI. 1.107-1.263), respectively. The lowest inflection points between PM2.5, SO42-, NO3-, NH4+, OM, and BC concentrations and GDM risk throughout the gestation period were 18.96, 5.80, 3.22, 2.67, 4.77 and 0.97 µg/m3, respectively. In the first trimester, an age interaction effect between exposure to SO42-, OM, and BC and the risk of GDM was observed. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates a positive association between exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents and the risk of GDM. Specifically, exposure to NO3-, NH4+, and OM was particularly associated with an increased risk of GDM. The present study contributes to a better understanding of the effects of exposure to PM2.5 and its constituents on the risk of GDM.

Throughout the world, some foods and feeds commonly consumed by humans and animals are inadvertently contaminated with mycotoxins. Zearalenone (ZEA) is a typical environmental/food contaminant that can cause varying degrees of damage to the body, such as reproductive toxicity, hepatotoxicity, immunotoxicity, etc. It poses a serious threat to the living environment and human and animal health. Increasing evidence shows that mycotoxin-induced organ damage may be closely related to ferroptosis. However, the mechanism of ZEA-induced liver injury is still not fully understood. Therefore, this study aimed to explore whether ZEA can trigger ferroptosis in the liver and cause liver injury. This study was conducted by establishing in vivo and in vitro ZEA exposure models. The results showed that ZEA exposure led to typical liver injury indicators. ZEA inhibited the Nrf2/keap1 antioxidant signaling pathway, aggravated the oxidative stress response, and inhibited the body's antioxidant function. Additionally, it was found that ZEA can aggravate lipid peroxidation by blocking the system Xc-/GSH/GPX4 axis, upregulating the protein expression of ACSL4, and affecting the import, storage, and export of iron ions, thereby inducing iron ion metabolism disorders. A combination of multiple factors induces ferroptosis in mouse liver and AML12 cells. Pretreatment with deferoxamine, an inhibitor of ferroptosis, can alleviate ferroptosis damage induced by ZEA, indicating the crucial role of ferroptosis in cell damage caused by ZEA. This study deeply explores the hepatic ferroptosis pathway induced by ZEA, provides a new theoretical basis for ZEA-induced hepatotoxicity, and offers new insights for exploring potential treatment strategies.

Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is widely used in clinical practice for disease diagnosis. However, MRI scans acquired at different sites can have different appearances due to the difference in the hardware, pulse sequence, and imaging parameter. It is important to reduce or eliminate such cross-site variations with brain MRI harmonization so that downstream image processing and analysis is performed consistently. Previous works on the harmonization problem require the data acquired from the sites of interest for model training. But in real-world scenarios there can be test data from a new site of interest after the model is trained, and training data from the new site is unavailable when the model is trained. In this case, previous methods cannot optimally handle the test data from the new unseen site. To address the problem, in this work we explore domain generalization for brain MRI harmonization and propose Site Mix (SiMix). We assume that images of travelling subjects are acquired at a few existing sites for model training. To allow the training data to better represent the test data from unseen sites, we first propose to mix the training images belonging to different sites stochastically, which substantially increases the diversity of the training data while preserving the authenticity of the mixed training images. Second, at test time, when a test image from an unseen site is given, we propose a multiview strategy that perturbs the test image with preserved authenticity and ensembles the harmonization results of the perturbed images for improved harmonization quality. To validate SiMix, we performed experiments on the publicly available SRPBS dataset and MUSHAC dataset that comprised brain MRI acquired at nine and two different sites, respectively. The results indicate that SiMix improves brain MRI harmonization for unseen sites, and it is also beneficial to the harmonization of existing sites.

Microcin J25 (MccJ25), a lasso peptide antibiotic with a unique structure that resembles the lariat knot, has been a topic of intense interest since its discovery in 1992. The precursor (McjA) contains a leader and a core segment. McjB is a protease activated upon binding to the leader, and McjC converts the core segment into the mature MccJ25. Previous studies suggested that these biosynthetic steps likely proceed in a (nearly) concerted fashion; however, there is only limited information regarding the structural and molecular intricacies of MccJ25 biosynthesis. To close this knowledge gap, we used AlphaFold2 to predict the structure of the precursor (McjA) in complex with its biosynthetic enzymes (McjB and McjC) and queried the critical predicted features by protein engineering. Based on the predicted structure, we designed protein variants to show that McjB can still be functional and form a proficient biosynthetic complex with McjC when its recognition and protease domains were circularly permutated or split into separate proteins. Specific residues important for McjA recognition were also identified, which permitted us to pinpoint a compensatory mutation (McjBM108T) to restore McjA/McjB interaction that rescued an otherwise nearly nonproductive precursor variant (McjAT-2M). Studies of McjA, McjB, and McjC have long been mired by them being extremely difficult to handle experimentally, and our results suggest that the AF2 predicted ternary complex structure may serve as a reasonable starting point for understanding MccJ25 biosynthesis. The prediction-validation workflow presented herein combined artificial intelligence and laboratory experiments constructively to gain new insights.

The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is a key cortical region for pain perception and emotion. Different forms of synaptic plasticity, including long-term potentiation (LTP) and long-term depression (LTD), have been reported in the ACC. Synaptic tagging of LTP plays an important role in hippocampus-related associative memory. In this study, we demonstrate that synaptic tagging of LTD is detected in the ACC of adult male and female mice. This form of tagged LTD requires the activation of metabotropic glutamate receptor subtype 1 (mGluR1). The induction of tagged LTD is time-related with the strongest tagged LTD appearing when the interval between two independent stimuli is 30 min. Inhibitors of mGluR1 blocked the induction of tagged LTD; however, blocking N-methyl-d-aspartate receptors did not affect the induction of tagged LTD. Nimodipine, an inhibitor of L-type voltage-gated calcium channels, also blocked tagged LTD. In an animal model of amputation, we found that tagged LTD was either reduced or completely blocked. Together with our previous report of tagged LTP in the ACC, this study strongly suggests that excitatory synapses in the adult ACC are highly plastic. The biphasic tagging of synaptic transmission provides a new form of heterosynaptic plasticity in the ACC which has functional and pathophysiological significance in phantom pain.

Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) can cause chronic respiratory disease (CRD) in chickens, which has a significant negative economic impact on the global poultry sector. Respiratory flora is the guardian of respiratory health, and its disorder is closely related to respiratory immunity and respiratory diseases. As a common probiotic in the chicken respiratory tract, Lactobacillus salivarius (L. salivarius) has potential antioxidant, growth performance enhancing, and anti-immunosuppressive properties. However, the specific mechanism through which L. salivarius protects against MG infection has not yet been thoroughly examined. This study intends to investigate whether L. salivarius could reduce MG-induced tracheal inflammation by modulating the respiratory microbiota and metabolites. The results indicated that L. salivarius reduced MG colonization significantly and alleviated the anomalous morphological changes by using the MG-infection model. L. salivarius also reduced the level of Th1 cell cytokines, increased the level of Th2 cell cytokines, and ameliorated immune imbalance during MG infection. In addition, L. salivarius improved the mucosal barrier, heightened immune function, and suppressed the Janus kinase/Signal transducer, and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway. Notably, MG infection changed the composition of the respiratory microbiota and metabolites, and L. salivarius therapy partially reversed the aberrant respiratory microbiota and metabolite composition. Our results highlighted that these findings demonstrated that L. salivarius played a role in MG-mediated inflammatory damage and demonstrated that L. salivarius, by altering the respiratory microbiota and metabolites, could successfully prevent MG-induced inflammatory injury in chicken trachea.

The nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) between heteroaryl halides (Cl, Br) and thiols proceeds smoothly in DMAc under the action of K2CO3 at rt-100 °C. For most electron-deficient heteroarenes, reaction takes place without introducing an additional electron-withdrawing group. For electron-rich heteroarenes, an additional electron-withdrawing group such as a simple ester, keto, cyano, and nitro group is required to ensure the reaction completes. The reactivity trend of heteroaryl halides is highly dependent on the electronic nature of the heteroarenes and orientation of halogens. Besides thiols, a couple of functionalized thioureas and thioamides are compatible with these conditions, providing the corresponding heteroaryl thioethers in good yields.

BACKGROUND: Contrast-associated acute kidney injury (CA-AKI) is an important complication in the perioperative period of coronary angiography (CAG). Dysglycemia is closely associated with the occurrence of CA-AKI. However, the association between stress hyperglycemia and CA-AKI in patients undergoing CAG remains unclear. The study aims to investigate the association of the stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and CA-AKI under CAG in a large real-world cohort. METHODS: This was a retrospective observational study, and patients undergoing CAG were enrolled. SHR is calculated by dividing the random blood glucose with the estimated average glucose derived from the glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), and subjects were divided into five groups according to SHR. The outcome was CA-AKI defined as an increase in serum creatinine of ≥ 0.3 mg/dL (26.5 µmol/L) or 1.5-fold higher than normal levels in 48 h. The association was assessed with logistic regression and restricted cubic spline analysis. RESULTS: In 19,965 participants (men: 73.3%, mean age: 63.1 ± 10.8 years) undergoing CAG, a total of 1,621 CA-AKI cases occurred. There were reverse J-shaped associations between the SHR and CA-AKI after adjustment for other confounding factors. Moreover, SHR improved the predictive effectiveness of the traditional Mehran score (AUC 0.65 vs 0.63, P < 0.001), a predictive model of CA-AKI in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention. CONCLUSIONS: There were reverse J-shaped associations of SHR with CA-AKI risk among patients undergoing CAG, and the assessment of SHR before CAG may assist clinicians in identifying patients at higher risk of CA-AKI.

Introducing a magnetic-field gradient into an electrically driven chemical reaction is expected to give rise to intriguing research possibilities. In this work, we elaborate on the modes and mechanisms of electrocatalytic activity (from the perspective of alignment of magnetic moments) and selectivity (at the molecular level) for the CO2 reduction reaction in response to external magnetic fields. We establish a positive correlation between magnetic field strengths and apparent current densities. This correlation can be rationalized by the formation of longer-range ordering of magnetic moments and the resulting decrease in the scattering of conduction electrons and charge-transfer resistances as the field strength increases. Furthermore, aided by the magnetic-field-equipped operando infrared spectroscopy, we find that applied magnetic fields are capable of weakening the C-O bond strength of the key intermediate ∗COOH and elongating the C-O bond length, thereby increasing the faradaic efficiency for the electroreduction of CO2 to CO.

Lead-free halide perovskites as a new kind of potential candidate for photocatalytic organic synthesis have attracted much attention recently. The rational heterojunction construction is regarded as an efficient strategy to delicately regulate their catalytic performances. Herein, a semi-conductive covalent organic framework (COF) nanosheet, C4N, is employed as the functional component to construct Cs2AgBiCl6/C4N (CABC/C4N) heterojunction. It is found that the C4N nanosheets with rich surface functional groups can serve as heterogeneous nucleation sites to manipulate the growth of CABC nanocrystals and afford close contact between each other, therefore facilitate the transfer and spatial separation of photogenerated charge carriers, as verified by in situ X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy and Kelvin probe force microscopy. Moreover, the oxygen affinity of C4N endows the heterojunctions with outstanding aerobic reactivity, thus improving the photocatalytic performance largely. The optimal CABC/C4N heterojunction delivers a thioanisole conversion efficiency of 100% after 6 h, which is 2.2 and 7.7-fold of that of CABC and C4N. This work provides a new ideal for the design and application of lead-free perovskite heterojunction photocatalysts for organic reactions.

BACKGROUND: The literature on the association between fine particulate matter (PM2.5) exposure and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk has focused mainly on exposure during the first and second trimesters, and the research results are inconsistent. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the associations between PM2.5 exposure during preconception, the first trimester and second trimester and GDM risk in pregnant women in Guangzhou. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of 26 354 pregnant women was conducted, estimating PM2.5, particulate matter with a diameter >10 µm (PM10), sulphur dioxide (SO2), carbon monoxide (CO) and ozone (O3) exposure during preconception and the first and second trimesters. Analyses were performed using Cox proportional hazards models and nonlinear distributed lag models. RESULTS: The study found that exposure to PM2.5 or a combination of two pollutants (PM2.5+PM10, PM2.5+SO2, PM2.5+CO and PM2.5+O3) was found to be significantly associated with GDM risk (P < 0.05). In the second trimester, with significant interactions found for occupation and anaemia between PM2.5 and GDM. When the PM2.5 concentrations were ≥19.56, ≥25.69 and ≥23.87 µg/m3 during preconception and the first and second trimesters, respectively, the hazard ratio for GDM started to increase. The critical window for PM2.5 exposure was identified to be from 9 to 11 weeks before conception. CONCLUSIONS: Our study results suggest that PM2.5 exposure during preconception and the first and second trimesters increases the risk of GDM, with the preconception period appearing to be the critical window for PM2.5 exposure.

Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) can cause fatal fulminant hepatitis, which is very similar to human acute liver failure. The aim of this study was to investigate whether adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) could alleviate RHDV2-induced liver injury in rabbits. Twenty 50-day-old rabbits were divided randomly into two groups (RHDV2 group, ADSCs + RHDV2 group). Starting from the 1st day, two groups of rabbits were given 0.5 ml of viral suspensions by subcutaneous injection in the neck. Meanwhile, the ADSCs + RHDV2 group was injected with ADSCs cell suspension (1.5 × 107 cells/ml) via a marginal ear vein, and the RHDV2 group was injected with an equal amount of saline via a marginal ear vein. At the end of the 48 h experiment, the animals were euthanized and gross hepatic changes were observed before liver specimens were collected. Histopathological analysis was performed using hematoxylin-eosin (HE), periodic acid schiff (PAS) and Masson's trichrome staining. For RHDV2 affected rabbits, HE staining demonstrated disorganized hepatic cords, loss of cellular detail, and severe cytoplasmic vacuolation within hepatocytes. Glycogen was not observed with PAS staining, and Masson's Trichrome staining showed increased hepatic collagen deposition. For rabbits treated with ADSCs at the time of inoculation, hepatic pathological changes were significantly less severe, liver glycogen synthesis was increased, and collagen fiber deposition was decreased. For RHDV2 affected rabbits, Tunel and immunofluorescence staining showed that the number of apoptotic cells, TGF-ß, and MMP-9 protein expression increased. And that in the ADSC treated group there was less hepatocyte apoptosis. In addition, RHDV2 induces liver inflammation and promotes the expression of IL-1ß, IL-6, and TNF-α. In rabbits administered ADSCs at time of inoculation, the expression of inflammatory factors in liver tissue decreased significantly. Our experiments show that ADSCs can protect rabbits from liver injury by RHDV2 and reduce the pathological and inflammatory response of liver. However, the specific protective mechanism needs further study.

Toxic mercury ions (Hg2+) can cause serious environmental pollution and accumulate in living organisms via the food chain. Therefore, monitoring Hg2+ is crucial in ensuring the safety of ecosystems and organisms. In this work, a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe CMT (5-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)-1-(7-hydroxy-coumarin-3-yl)-4-pentene-1,3-dione) based on coumarin was developed for detecting Hg2+, which displayed obvious fluorescence changes, a low detection limit (2.24 × 10-7 M), good selectivity, and a large Stokes shift (255 nm). The CMT probe could detect Hg2+ in real environmental soil and water samples. Furthermore, the CMT probe enabled the naked-eye detection of Hg2+ using test paper experiments. CMT was also applied for fluorescence imaging in living zebrafish and plants. This work provides a highly efficient tool for monitoring Hg2+ in environmental samples and biological systems.

The efficient capture of copper ions (Cu2+) in wastewater has dual significance in pollution control and resource recovery. Prussian blue analog (PBA)-based pseudocapacitive materials with open frameworks and abundant metal sites have attracted considerable attention as capacitive deionization (CDI) electrodes for copper removal. In this study, the efficiency of copper hexacyanoferrate (CuHCF) as CDI electrode for Cu2+ treating was evaluated for the first time upon the successful synthesis of copper hexacyanoferrate/carbon sheet combination (CuHCF/C) by introducing carbon sheet as conductive substrate. CuHCF/C exhibited significant pseudocapacitance and high specific capacitance (52.92 F g-1) through the intercalation, deintercalation, and coupling of Cu+/Cu2+ and Fe2+/Fe3+ redox pairs. At 0.8 an applied voltage and CuSO4 feed liquid concentration of 100 mg L-1, the salt adsorption capacity was 134.47 mg g-1 higher than those of most reported electrodes. Moreover, CuHCF/C demonstrated excellent Cu2+ selectivity in multi-ion coexisting solutions and in actual wastewater experiments. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were employed to elucidate the mechanism. This study not only reveals the essence of Cu2+ deionization by PBAs pseudocapacitance with promising potential applications but also provides a new strategy for selecting efficient CDI electrodes for Cu2+ removal.

OBJECTIVES: This study was to investigate the colonisation rate of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) during pregnancy, and to evaluate the influence of GBS colonisation on pregnancy outcomes. DESIGN: A retrospective cohort study. SETTING: Data of 47 380 pregnant women from 2016 to 2022 were collected from the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Huadu District, Guangzhou City, China. PARTICIPANTS: A total of 15 040 pregnant women were eligible for this study, of which 32 340 were excluded due to non-native pregnant women, in vitro fertilization infants, malformed fetuses, habitual abortion, abortions due to poor reproductive or obstetrical history, artificial insemination, umbilical cord torsion, and other diseases during pregnancy. PRIMARY OUTCOME MEASURES: The incidence rates of GBS colonisation and premature delivery, fetal distress, premature rupture of membranes (PROM), low birth weight (LBW), abortion and stillbirth. RESULTS: Of the 15 040 pregnant women included in this study, 1445 developed GBS colonisation, with a prevalence of 9.61% (95% CI, 9.15 to 10.09). Advanced maternal age (≥35 years) predisposed women to GBS colonisation, and the occurrence of GBS colonisation varied among different ethnic groups. Our data revealed that fetal distress, PROM and LBW were more common in pregnant women colonised with GBS than in pregnant women not colonised with GBS. The incidence for premature delivery, fetal distress, PROM and LBW in infants of pregnant women colonised with GBS was 41.0% (OR=1.410, 95% CI, 1.134 to 1.753), 282.5% (OR=3.825, 95% CI, 3.185 to 4.593), 14.9% (OR=1.149, 95% CI, 1.005 to 1.313), and 29.7% (OR=1.297, 95% CI, 1.010 to 1.664), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: GBS colonisation was relatively low in pregnant women in Guangzhou. Women of advanced maternal age were more prone to GBS colonisation, and pregnant women colonised with GBS were more predisposed to fetal distress, PROM and LBW.

BACKGROUND: Coil embolization is a common method for treating unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs). To effectively perform coil embolization for UIAs, clinicians must undergo extensive training with the assistance of senior physicians over an extended period. This study aimed to establish a deep-learning system for measuring the morphological features of UIAs and help the surgical planning of coil embolization for UIAs. METHODS: Preoperative computational tomography angiography (CTA) data and surgical data from UIA patients receiving coil embolization in our medical institution were retrospectively reviewed. A convolutional neural network (CNN) model was trained on the preoperative CTA data, and the morphological features of UIAs were measured automatically using this CNN model. The intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was utilized to examine the similarity between the morphologies measured by the CNN model and those determined by experienced clinicians. A deep neural network model to determine the diameter of first coil was further established based on the CNN model within the derivation set (75% of all patients) using neural factorization machines (NFM) model and was validated using a validation set (25% of all patients). The general match ratio (the difference was within ± 1 mm) between the predicted diameter of first coil by model and that used in practical scenario was calculated. RESULTS: One-hundred fifty-three UIA patients were enrolled in this study. The CNN model could diagnose UIAs with an accuracy of 0.97. The performance of this CNN model in measuring the morphological features of UIAs (i.e., size, height, neck diameter, dome diameter, and volume) was comparable to the accuracy of senior clinicians (all ICC > 0.85). The diameter of first coil predicted by the model established based on CNN model and the diameter of first coil used actually exhibited a high general match ratio (0.90) within the derivation set. Moreover, the model performed well in recommending the diameter of first coil within the validation set (general match ratio as 0.91). CONCLUSION: This study presents a deep-learning system which can help to improve surgical planning of coil embolization for UIAs.

Key Clinical Message: This case of HCC report contributes to the knowledge of HCC in China. In this case, the longer duration of the color change observed in this case compared to previous reports, which will be useful for all medical practitioners. Abstract: Harlequin color change (HCC) is a benign skin color change that lasts for a short time with no obvious physical abnormalities. Its pathogenesis is still unclear. It occurs in newborns, especially premature infants. However, few cases of HCC have been reported in China. Herein, we report a case of HCC. The infant was born at 34 + 4 weeks of gestation and was admitted to the hospital due to metabolic acidosis and neonatal pneumonia after birth. On the third day after birth, there were two red bands with obvious edges along the body centreline, and the erythema characteristics were consistent with those of HCC. The immature hypothalamus of newborns may cause the occurrence of HCC. At the same time, some drugs (midazolam), hypoxemia, and blood sampling may also be associated with HCC during neonatal hospitalization. All doctors should be thoroughly knowledgeable about the clinical characteristics of HCC and avoid using unnecessary drugs during treatment.

OBJECTIVES: Staphylococcus aureus is an opportunistic pathogen that is considered a high priority for research. However, comparative studies of S. aureus strains from different environments and hosts are still lacking. METHODS: Here, we performed a high-resolution bioinformatics analysis of 576 S. aureus genomes isolated from livestock, farm environments, farm workers, animal-origin food, and humans. RESULTS: The S. aureus isolates showed high diversity in genetic lineages and demonstrated host specialization and multi-host range in the population phylogeny. Recent transmission events, historical divergences, and frequent host switching in specific sequence types (STs) and through the food chain and animal farm mediums were observed. Frequent gene transfer may quickly give rise to new fitness to colonize their host or switch to other hosts, even in isolates with the closest vertical evolutionary history. The large multi-host-shared antibiotic resistance gene (ARG) pool was the major factor shaping antibiotic resistance in S. aureus isolates. We revealed the genetic backgrounds of mec, cfr, and optrA, which could be spread among isolates from different species, hosts, and environments. CONCLUSION: Overall, our findings provide One Health genomic insights into the evolution, transmission, gene content characteristics, and antibiotic resistance profiles of S. aureus from different hosts, suggesting that, despite well-formed host specificity during the evolution of S. aureus, the ever-expanding host range and the cross-hosts/niches transmission (at both the strain and genetic level) may be facilitated by diverse bacterial vehicles (e.g., food chain, farm environments, and workers), which will lead to emerging antibiotic resistance consequences and threaten public health and food safety.
