BACKGROUND: Congenital malformations of the female genital tract (CM-FGT) are characterized by abnormal development of the fallopian tubes, uterus, and vagina, often accompanied by malformations in the urinary system, bones and hearing. However, no definitive pathogenic genes and molecular genetic causes have been identified. METHODS: We present the largest whole-genome sequencing study of CM-FGT to date, analyzing 590 individuals in China: 95 patients, 442 case-controls, and 53 familial controls. RESULTS: Among the patients, 5.3% carried known CM-FGT-related variants. Pedigree and case-control analyses in two dimensions of coding and non-coding regulatory regions revealed seven novel de novo copy number variations, 12 rare single-nucleotide variations, and 10 rare 3' untranslated region (UTR) mutations in genes related to CM-FGT, particularly highlighting ASH1L as a pathogenic gene. Single-cell sequencing data showed that the majority of CM-FGT-related risk genes are spatiotemporally specifically expressed early in uterus development. CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, this study identified novel variants related to CM-FGT, particularly highlighting ASH1L as a pathogenic gene. The findings provide insights into the genetic variants underlying CM-FGT, with single-cell sequencing data revealing spatiotemporal specific expression patterns of key risk genes early in uterine development. This study significantly advances the understanding of CM-FGT etiology and genetic landscape, offering new opportunities for prenatal screening.

BACKGROUND: Myocardial infarction (MI) is the main contributor to most cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), and the available post-treatment clinical therapeutic options are limited. The development of nanoscale drug delivery systems carrying natural small molecules provides biotherapies that could potentially offer new treatments for reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced damage in MI. Considering the stability and reduced toxicity of gold-phenolic core-shell nanoparticles, this study aims to develop ellagic acid-functionalized gold nanoparticles (EA-AuNPs) to overcome these limitations. RESULTS: We have successfully synthesized EA-AuNPs with enhanced biocompatibility and bioactivity. These core-shell gold nanoparticles exhibit excellent ROS-scavenging activity and high dispersion. The results from a label-free imaging method on optically transparent zebrafish larvae models and micro-CT imaging in mice indicated that EA-AuNPs enable a favorable excretion-based metabolism without overburdening other organs. EA-AuNPs were subsequently applied in cellular oxidative stress models and MI mouse models. We found that they effectively inhibit the expression of apoptosis-related proteins and the elevation of cardiac enzyme activities, thereby ameliorating oxidative stress injuries in MI mice. Further investigations of oxylipin profiles indicated that EA-AuNPs might alleviate myocardial injury by inhibiting ROS-induced oxylipin level alterations, restoring the perturbed anti-inflammatory oxylipins. CONCLUSIONS: These findings collectively emphasized the protective role of EA-AuNPs in myocardial injury, which contributes to the development of innovative gold-phenolic nanoparticles and further advances their potential medical applications.

BACKGROUND: There is increasing evidence that inflammation plays a key role in the pathophysiology of periodontitis (PT) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the roles of inflammation in linking PT and AD are not clear. Our aim is to analyze the potential molecular mechanisms between these two diseases using bioinformatics and systems biology approaches. METHODS: To elucidate the link between PT and AD, we selected shared genes (SGs) with gene-disease-association scores of ≥ 0.1 from the Disease Gene Network (DisGeNET) database, followed by extracting the hub genes. Based on these genes, we constructed gene ontology (GO) enrichment analysis, pathway enrichment analysis, protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks, transcription factors (TFs)-gene networks, microRNAs (miRNAs)-gene regulatory networks, and gene-disease association analyses. Finally, the Drug Signatures database (DSigDB) was utilized to predict candidate molecular drugs related to hub genes. RESULTS: A total of 21 common SGs between PT and AD were obtained. Cell cytokine activity, inflammatory response, and extracellular membrane were the most important enriched items in GO analysis. Interleukin-10 Signaling, LTF Danger Signal Response Pathway, and RAGE Pathway were identified as important shared pathways. IL6, IL10, IL1B, TNF, IFNG, CXCL8, CCL2, MMP9, TLR4 were identified as hub genes. Both shared pathways and hub genes are closely related to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. Importantly, glutathione, simvastatin, and dexamethasone were identified as important candidate drugs for the treatment of PT and AD. CONCLUSIONS: There is a close link between PT and AD pathogenesis, which may involve in the inflammation, ER and mitochondrial function.

The cyclical variations in environmental temperature generated by natural rhythms constantly impact the wastewater treatment process through the aeration system. Engineering data show that fluctuations in environmental temperature cause the reactor temperature to drop at night, resulting in increased dissolved oxygen concentration and improved effluent wastewater quality. However, the impact of natural temperature variation on wastewater treatment systems and the energy-saving potential has yet to be fully recognized. Here, we conducted a comprehensive study, using a full-scale oxic-hydrolytic and denitrification-oxic (OHO) coking wastewater treatment process as a case and developed a dynamic aeration model integrating thermodynamics and kinetics to elucidate the energy-saving mechanisms of wastewater treatment systems in response to diurnal temperature variations. Our case study results indicate that natural diurnal temperature variations can cut the energy consumption of 660,980 kWh annually (up to 30%) for the aeration unit in the OHO system. Wastewater treatment facilities located in regions with significant environmental temperature variation stand to benefit more from this energy-saving mechanism. Methods such as flow dynamic control, load shifting, and process unit editing can be fitted into the new or retrofitted wastewater treatment engineering.

BACKGROUND: Diaphragmatic paralysis is typically associated with phrenic nerve injury. Neonatal diaphragmatic paralysis diagnosis is easily missed because its manifestations are variable and usually nonspecific. CASE SUMMARY: We report a 39-week-old newborn delivered via vaginal forceps who presented with tachypnea but without showing other birth-trauma-related manifestations. The infant was initially diagnosed with pneumonia. However, the newborn still exhibited tachypnea despite effective antibiotic treatment. Chest radiography revealed right diaphragmatic elevation. M-mode ultrasonography revealed decreased movement of the right diaphragm. The infant was subsequently diagnosed with diaphragmatic paralysis. After 4 weeks, tachypnea improved. Upon re-examination using M-mode ultrasonography, the difference in bilateral diaphragmatic muscle movement was smaller than before. CONCLUSION: Appropriate use of M-mode ultrasound to quantify diaphragmatic excursions could facilitate timely diagnosis and provide objective evaluation.

Annotating active sites in enzymes is crucial for advancing multiple fields including drug discovery, disease research, enzyme engineering, and synthetic biology. Despite the development of numerous automated annotation algorithms, a significant trade-off between speed and accuracy limits their large-scale practical applications. We introduce EasIFA, an enzyme active site annotation algorithm that fuses latent enzyme representations from the Protein Language Model and 3D structural encoder, and then aligns protein-level information with the knowledge of enzymatic reactions using a multi-modal cross-attention framework. EasIFA outperforms BLASTp with a 10-fold speed increase and improved recall, precision, f1 score, and MCC by 7.57%, 13.08%, 9.68%, and 0.1012, respectively. It also surpasses empirical-rule-based algorithm and other state-of-the-art deep learning annotation method based on PSSM features, achieving a speed increase ranging from 650 to 1400 times while enhancing annotation quality. This makes EasIFA a suitable replacement for conventional tools in both industrial and academic settings. EasIFA can also effectively transfer knowledge gained from coarsely annotated enzyme databases to smaller, high-precision datasets, highlighting its ability to model sparse and high-quality databases. Additionally, EasIFA shows potential as a catalytic site monitoring tool for designing enzymes with desired functions beyond their natural distribution.

Previous observational studies have identified a link between obesity, adiposity distribution, type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM), type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), and the risk of pressure ulcers (PUs). However, the definitive causality between obesity and PUs, and potential DM mediators remains unclear. Univariable, multivariable, and mediation Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted to explore the mediating role of T1DM or T2DM in the association between obesity, adiposity distribution, and PUs. Instrumental variables for obesity and adiposity distribution, including Body Mass Index (BMI), waist circumference, hip circumference, trunk fat mass, whole body fat mass, trunk fat percentage, and body fat percentage, were selected from two genome-wide association studies (GWAS). In univariable MR analysis, BMI, hip circumference, and obesity were associated with PUs using inverse variance weighted (IVW) regression. These findings were further corroborated by the replication cohorts and meta-analysis (BMI: OR = 1.537, 95% CI = 1.294-1.824, p < 0.001; Hip circumference: OR = 1.369, 95% CI = 1.147-1.635, p < 0.001; Obesity: OR = 1.235, 95% CI = 1.067-1.431, p = 0.005), respectively. Even after adjusting for confounding factors such as T1DM and T2DM, BMI and hip circumference remained statistically significant in multivariable MR analyses. T2DM may mediate the pathogenesis of BMI-related (OR = 1.106, 95% CI = 1.054-1.160, p = 0.037) and obesity-related PUs (OR = 1.053, 95% CI = 1.034-1.973, p = 0.004). These findings provide insights for the prevention and treatment of PUs, particularly in patients with obesity or DM.

A purified polysaccharide with a galactose backbone (SPR-1, Mw 3,622 Da) was isolated from processed Polygonati Rhizoma with black beans (PRWB) and characterized its chemical properties. The backbone of SPR-1 consisted of [(4)-ß-D-Galp-(1]9 â†’ 4,6)-ß-D-Galp-(1 â†’ 4)-α-D-GalpA-(1 â†’ 4)-α-D-GalpA-(1 â†’ 4)-α-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ 4,6)-α-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ 4)-α/ß-D-Glcp, with a branch chain of R1: ß-D-Galp-(1 â†’ 3)-ß-D-Galp-(1→ connected to the →4,6)-ß-D-Galp-(1→ via O-6, and a branch chain of R2: α-D-Glcp-(1 â†’ 6)-α-D-Glcp-(1→ connected to the →4,6)-α-D-Glcp-(1→ via O-6. Immunomodulatory assays showed that the SPR-1 significantly activated macrophages, and increased secretion of NO and cytokines (i.e., IL-1ß and TNF-α), as well as promoted the phagocytic activities of cells. Furthermore, isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) analysis and molecular docking results indicated high-affinity binding between SPR-1 and MD2 with the equilibrium dissociation constant (K D) of 18.8 µM. It was suggested that SPR-1 activated the immune response through Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling and downstream responses. Our research demonstrated that the SPR-1 has a promising candidate from PRWB for the TLR4 agonist to induce immune response, and also provided an easily accessible way that can be used for PR deep processing.

Energy metabolism disorder, mainly exhibiting the inhibition of fatty acid degradation and lipid accumulation, is highly related with aging acceleration. However, the intervention measures are deficient. Here, we reported Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3 PUFAs), especially EPA, exerted beneficial effects on maintaining energy metabolism and lipid homeostasis to slow organ aging. As the endogenous agonist of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α (PPARα), Omega-3 PUFAs significantly boosted fatty acid ß-oxidation and ATP production in multiple aged organs. Consequently, Omega-3 PUFAs effectively inhibited age-related pathological changes, preserved organ function, and retarded aging process. The beneficial effects of Omega-3 PUFAs were also testified in mfat-1 transgenic mice, which spontaneously generate abundant endogenous Omega-3 PUFAs. In conclusion, our study innovatively demonstrated Omega-3 PUFAs administration in diet slow aging through promoting energy metabolism. The supplement of Omega-3 PUFAs or fat-1 transgene provides a promising therapeutic approach to promote healthy aging in the elderly.

The hypocretin (Hcrt) system modulates arousal and anxiety-related behaviors and has been considered as a novel treatment target for stress-related affective disorders. We examined the effects of Hcrt acting in the nucleus accumbens shell (NAcSh) and anterodorsal bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (adBNST) on social behavior in male and female California mice (Peromyscus californicus). In female but not male California mice, infusion of Hcrt1 into NAcSh decreased social approach. Weak effects of Hcrt1 on social vigilance were observed in both females and males. No behavioral effects of Hcrt1 infused into the adBNST were observed. Analyses of sequencing data from California mice and Mus musculus NAc showed that Hcrtr2 was more abundant than Hcrtr1, so we infused the selective Hcrt receptor 2 antagonist into the NAcSh, which increased social approach in females previously exposed to social defeat. A calcium imaging study in the NAcSh of females before and after stress exposure showed that neural activity increased immediately following the expression of social avoidance but not during freezing behavior. This observation is consistent with previous studies that identified populations of neurons in the NAc that drive avoidance. Intriguingly, calcium transients were not affected by stress. These data suggest that hypocretin acting in the NAcSh plays a key role in modulating stress-induced social avoidance.

BACKGROUND: The emergence of Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm; FAW) in the world has raised concerns regarding its impact on crop production, particularly on corn and sorghum. While chemical control and Bt crops have been effective in managing FAW damage, the development of pesticide-resistant and Bt-resistant strains necessitates alternative control methods. The push-pull farming system has gained attention, but direct utilization of African plant species in Taiwan faces challenges due to invasive potential and climatic disparities. Therefore, identifying and evaluating suitable local plant species, such as Napier grass (Pennisetum purpureum), Desmodium species, and signal grass (Brachiaria brizantha), is crucial for implementing effective FAW management strategies in Taiwan. RESULTS: In screening fifty Napier grass germplasms, all demonstrated an antibiotic effect, reducing leaf consumption compared to corn. Notably, thirty-five germplasms exhibited robust antibiotic traits, decreasing FAW consumption and increasing mortality rates. Three Napier grass germplasms also attracted more female moths for oviposition. Further evaluation of selected Napier grass germplasms and signal grass demonstrated efficacy in reducing FAW larval weight and survival duration. Additionally, Desmodium species, particularly D. uncinatum, showed promising toxicity against FAW larvae. CONCLUSION: Our findings support the effectiveness of selected Napier grass germplasms and signal grass as pull plants, and highlight the potential of D. uncinatum as a push plant in FAW management strategies in Taiwan.

Oxysterols are metabolites of cholesterol that regulate cholesterol homeostasis. Among these, the most abundant oxysterol is 27-hydroxycholesterol (27HC), which can cross the blood-brain barrier. Because 27HC functions as an endogenous selective estrogen receptor modulator, we hypothesize that 27HC binds to the estrogen receptor α (ERα) in the brain to regulate energy balance. Supporting this view, we found that delivering 27HC to the brain reduced food intake and activated proopiomelanocortin (POMC) neurons in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus (POMCARH) in an ERα-dependent manner. In addition, we observed that inhibiting brain ERα, deleting ERα in POMC neurons, or chemogenetic inhibition of POMCARH neurons blocked the anorexigenic effects of 27HC. Mechanistically, we further revealed that 27HC stimulates POMCARH neurons by inhibiting the small conductance of the calcium-activated potassium (SK) channel. Together, our findings suggest that 27HC, through its interaction with ERα and modulation of the SK channel, inhibits food intake as a negative feedback mechanism against a surge in circulating cholesterol.

BACKGROUND: Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) accounts for 15-20% of all breast cancers and approximately 50% of breast cancer deaths. Chemotherapy remains the mainstay of systemic treatment due to the lack of effective therapy targets. Thus, more studies are urgently needed to identify new therapeutic targets in TNBC patients. METHODS: GAPVD1 expression and prognosis value in breast cancer samples were explored in The Cancer Genome Atlas database (TCGA). GAPVD1 knockdown and overexpression TNBC cell lines were constructed. CCK-8 and colony formation assays were performed to detect cell viability. Flow cytometry analysis was performed to detect cell cycle variation. Western blotting was conducted to determine the levels of target genes. Finally, an enrichment analysis of Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis were performed. RESULTS: GAPVD1 is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and predicts poor prognosis. In vitro experiments demonstrated that GAPVD1 is correlated with cell proliferation and the cell cycle of TNBC cells. Mechanistically, alteration in GAPVD1 expression was found to be associated with cell cycle-related proteins PCNA, Cyclin A, and the activity of the ERK/MAPK signaling pathway. Consistent with these findings, enrichment analysis of GAPVD1-involving partners and signaling pathways revealed that the cellular biosynthetic process, macromolecule biosynthetic process, and cell cycle signaling are related to GAPVD1. In vivo experiment demonstrated that GAPVD1 inhibition impedes tumor growth and expression of cell cyclerelated proteins. CONCLUSION: Taken together, our results indicate that GAPVD1 may participate in TNBC cell growth by regulating the cell cycle and ERK/MAPK signaling pathway.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: The relationship between metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome is well established. While zinc finger BED-type containing 3 (ZBED3) has been linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus and the metabolic syndrome, its role in MASLD remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to investigate the function of ZBED3 in the context of MASLD. METHODS: Expression levels of ZBED3 were assessed in individuals with MASLD, as well as in cellular and animal models of MASLD. In vitro and in vivo analyses were conducted using a cellular model of MASLD induced by NEFA and an animal model of MASLD induced by a high-fat diet (HFD), respectively, to investigate the role of ZBED3 in MASLD. ZBED3 expression was increased by lentiviral infection or tail-vein injection of adeno-associated virus. RNA-seq and bioinformatics analysis were employed to examine the pathways through which ZBED3 modulates lipid accumulation. Findings from these next-generation transcriptome sequencing studies indicated that ZBED3 controls SREBP1c (also known as SREBF1; a gene involved in fatty acid de novo synthesis); thus, co-immunoprecipitation and LC-MS/MS were utilised to investigate the molecular mechanisms by which ZBED3 regulates the sterol regulatory element binding protein 1c (SREBP1c). RESULTS: In this study, we found that ZBED3 was significantly upregulated in the liver of individuals with MASLD and in MASLD animal models. ZBED3 overexpression promoted NEFA-induced triglyceride accumulation in hepatocytes in vitro. Furthermore, the hepatocyte-specific overexpression of Zbed3 promoted hepatic steatosis. Conversely, the hepatocyte-specific knockout of Zbed3 resulted in resistance of HFD-induced hepatic steatosis. Mechanistically, ZBED3 interacts directly with polypyrimidine tract-binding protein 1 (PTBP1) and affects its binding to the SREBP1c mRNA precursor to regulate SREBP1c mRNA stability and alternative splicing. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION: This study indicates that ZBED3 promotes hepatic steatosis and serves as a critical regulator of the progression of MASLD. BACKGROUND: Recent investigations underscore the capacity of photodynamic therapy (PDT) to induce adipocyte apoptosis, thereby mitigating obesity. Nonetheless, extant synthetic photosensitizers manifest limitations that hinder their clinical viability. PURPOSE: In the current study, we used Hypericum perforatum-derived exosomes-like nanovesicles (HPExos) as a novel photosensitizer, and investigated its PDT effects in adipose tissue during obesity. METHOD: HPExos-were administered to high fat diet mice via intraperitoneal injection, followed by targeted irradiation with specialized LED lights. Mass spectrometric analysis was analyzed in adipose tissues. CCK8 assay and Oil Red O staining were used to investigate lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 cells to clarify adipocyte differentiation. The expression levels of related markers associated with adipogenesis and lipogenesis were assessed by RT-PCR. Apoptosis analysis was performed by TUNEL staining of and western blotting. RESULTS: HPExos combined with PDT accumulated in visceral white adipose tissues results in a reduced body weight and improved insulin sensitivity. HPExos combined with PDT induced apoptosis by driving high levels of ROS. In addition, HPExos combined with PDT significantly downregulated the expression of transcription factors, PPARγ, C/EBPα, and SREBP and lipogenesis protein FABP4 both in vitro and in vivo, associated with a decreased FFA levels. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that HPExos could act as an effective photosensitizer in regulating glucose hemostasis by inhibiting adipocyte differentiation and lipogenesis, offering a promising approach for obesity treatment.

In most types of erectile dysfunction, particularly in advanced stages, typical pathological features observed are reduced parenchymal cells coupled with increased tissue fibrosis. However, the current treatment methods have shown limited success in reversing these pathologic changes. Recent research has revealed that changes in autophagy levels, along with alterations in apoptosis and fibrosis-related proteins, are linked to the progression of erectile dysfunction, suggesting a significant association. Autophagy, known to significantly affect cell fate and tissue fibrosis, is currently being explored as a potential treatment modality for erectile dysfunction. However, these present studies are still in their nascent stage, and there are limited experimental data available. This review analyzes erectile dysfunction from a pathological perspective. It provides an in-depth overview of how autophagy is involved in the apoptotic processes of smooth muscle and endothelial cells and its role in the fibrotic processes occurring in the cavernosum. This study aimed to develop a theoretical framework for the potential effectiveness of autophagy in preventing and treating erectile dysfunction, thus encouraging further investigation among researchers in this area.

In poultry reproduction, the decline of ovarian function due to aging is related to dysfunction of mitochondria exacerbated by a reduction in antioxidant capacity, ultimately leading to follicle atresia and decreased egg production. However, the mechanisms of mitochondrial dysfunction in the chicken ovary in aging have remained to be understood. Hence, this study aims to investigate the effects of aging on mitochondrial function and cellular homeostasis. We collect ovarian tissue, small white follicles (SWF), large white follicles (LWF), and small yellow follicles (SYF) from three different laying periods of hens. The transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed that mitochondrial damage occurred in ovarian tissue during the late laying period (LP), characterized by structural swelling, scattered mitochondrial cristae, and an increase in the vacuoles. At the same time, with age, the synthesis of steroid hormones in the ovaries and follicular tissues is reduced. The levels of autophagy and cell apoptosis in ovarian tissues were both increased in the LP. In addition, aging adversely impacts mitochondrial function, leading to a decrease in mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) functions. This study will expand the knowledge about regressing ovarian aging in hens and increasing egg production in older layers for poultry production.

BACKGROUND: Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an inherited disorder. At present, an increasing number of medications are being employed to treat FAP; however, only a few have been assessed for their efficacy and safety. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a network meta-analysis to compare the therapeutic outcomes and adverse drug reactions of all FAP-associated medications. METHODS: Six relevant databases were searched to identify pertinent randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and information on the dosage and frequency of various drugs was extracted. Additionally, data on changes in polyp counts and dimensions, as well as treatment-related adverse reactions for different medications were collected. The Bayesian method was employed to directly or indirectly compare the impact of different treatment regimens on changes in polyp numbers and diameters, and the safety of the drugs was investigated. RESULTS: CXB at 16 mg/kg/day significantly reduced polyp numbers. Celecoxib at 8 mg/kg/day and sulindac (150 mg twice daily) plus erlotinib (75 mg/day) were effective for tolerant FAP patients. Additionally, EPAFFA 2 g daily and sulindac (150 mg twice daily) plus erlotinib (75 mg/day) emerged as the most effective for reducing polyp size. CONCLUSION: The most effective treatment for reducing the number of colorectal polyps is celecoxib 16 mg/kg/day. On the other hand, a daily dosage of 2 g EPA-FFA demonstrates the best results in terms of decreasing colorectal polyp diameter.

Acoustic agglomeration is employed as a precursor technique that modifies the sound field of fine particles to increase their size, thereby facilitating more efficient emission control. This paper reviews progress in the field of acoustic agglomeration technology, clarifies the mechanisms at play within the acoustic agglomeration process, and outlines its applicability in both gas-liquid and gas-solid phases. Furthermore, it analyzes the factors impacting the efficacy of acoustic agglomeration, summarizes the numerical simulation research of acoustic agglomeration, and proposes directions for technological enhancement.

OBJECTIVES: The translocation of intestinal flora has been linked to the colonization of diverse and heavy lower respiratory flora in patients with septic ARDS, and is considered a critical prognostic factor for patients. METHODS: On the first and third days of ICU admission, BALF, throat swab, and anal swab were collected, resulting in a total of 288 samples. These samples were analyzed using 16S rRNA analysis and the traceability analysis of new generation technology. RESULTS: On the first day, among the top five microbiota species in abundance, four species were found to be identical in BALF and throat samples. Similarly, on the third day, three microbiota species were found to be identical in abundance in both BALF and throat samples. On the first day, 85.16% of microorganisms originated from the throat, 5.79% from the intestines, and 9.05% were unknown. On the third day, 83.52% of microorganisms came from the throat, 4.67% from the intestines, and 11.81% were unknown. Additionally, when regrouping the 46 patients, the results revealed a significant predominance of throat microorganisms in BALF on both the first and third day. Furthermore, as the disease progressed, the proportion of intestinal flora in BALF increased in patients with enterogenic ARDS. CONCLUSIONS: In patients with septic ARDS, the main source of lung microbiota is primarily from the throat. Furthermore, the dynamic trend of the microbiota on the first and third day is essentially consistent.It is important to note that the origin of the intestinal flora does not exclude the possibility of its origin from the throat.
