RESUMO

Purpose: To label entecavir (ETV) with radioiodine and evaluate its effect on inhibiting hepatitis B virus (HBV) secretion and replication in vitro as well as its biodistribution in BALB/c mice. Methods: 125I-ETV was synthesized via binding a vinyl tributyltin group to ETV and producing electrophilic iodination of the group. Its chemical properties were assessed using traditional methods. Upon intravenous injection of 125I-ETV into BALB/c mice, the radioactivity of the critical organs was detected. In vitro, the anti-HBV activity of 125I-ETV was investigated using HepG2.2.15 cell culture model. Confocal microscopy was used to analyze the cell apoptosis. Culture supernatant samples were used for measuring HBV surface antigen (HBsAg) and HBV e antigen (HBeAg) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Intracellular HBV pregenomic RNA (pgRNA), DNA, and covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) were measured by real-time fluorescence quantitative PCR. Results: The radiochemical purity of 125I-ETV was greater than 95% after incubation in freshly serum within 48 h. The three highest radioactivities were in the stomach, intestine, and liver after intravenous injection at 0.5 h, 2 h, and 24 h. The confocal fluorescence imaging showed that 125I-ETV did not induce cell apoptosis after treatment for 96 h. 125I-ETV decreases HBsAg and HBeAg secretions as well as intracellular HBV pgRNA, DNA, and cccDNA copies in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the anti-HBV activity of 125I-ETV is greater than that of ETV. Conclusions: The study outcome establishes 125I-ETV as a candidate for anti-HBV. However, it is still in need of further endorsement and optimization by animal model studies before using 125I-ETV to treat chronic HBV disease.

RESUMO

The recycling and utilization of precious metals have emerged as a critical research focus in advancing the development of the circular economy. Among numerous methods for recovering precious metals such as gold, adsorbents with both high adsorption selectivity and capacity have become key technologies. This article incorporated the N-phenylpyrrolidine into a flexible porous polynorbornene backbone to create a class of distinctive porous organic polymers, named BIT-POP-14-BIT-POP-17. Through a reductive capture mechanism, the reductive adsorption sites of N-phenylpyrrolidine coordinate selectively with precious metals, the reduced metal is captured by the hierarchically porous polymers with flexible backbone. This approach leads to remarkable gold recovery efficiency, achieving a record of 2321 mg g-1 at ambient conditions, and 3020 mg g-1 under UV light, surpassing the theoretical limit. The porous polymers are filled in a column for a continuous uptake of gold from waste printed circuit boards (PCBs), showing recovery efficiency toward gold as high as 95% after 84 h. Overall, this work offers a new perspective on designing novel adsorbents for precious metal recovery, providing inspiration for researchers to explore novel adsorption modes and contribute to the advancement of the circular economy.

RESUMO

To develop a scheme for distinguishing Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD) from lymphoma in patients presenting enlarged lymph nodes (LNs) predominantly on the upper side of the diaphragm. From November 2015 to August 2023, 32 KFD patients and 38 lymphoma patients were pathologically confirmed and enrolled in this retrospectively study. Clinical and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) features were collected. When comparing those PET/CT parameters, we set 5 models with different research objects: (1) all affected LNs; (2) the 5 largest affected LNs in terms of maximum diameter; (3) the 5 largest affected LNs in terms of maximum standard uptake values (SUVmax); (4) the largest affected LNs in terms of maximum diameter; (5) the largest affected LNs in terms of SUVmax. Compared to lymphoma patients, KFD patients were younger; and with higher incidence of fever, arthralgia, abnormal serum white blood cell, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and splenomegaly; lower incidence of affected LNs perinodal infiltration, necrosis and conglomeration; more affected LNs in Head and Neck nodes (particularly in level II) and Axillary in KFD (P ˂ .05). PET/CT parameters presented as various difference in each model. Finally, 11 clinical and PET/CT features (age ≤ 34, with fever, arthralgia, abnormal white blood cell, abnormal LDH, and without node necrosis and node conglomeration have a score of 2 each; splenomegaly, perinodal infiltration, median maximum diameter ≤ 20.5 and median SUVmax ≤ 7.1 of affected LNs in model 2 have score of 1 each) were selected as scheme items for distinguishing KFD from lymphoma. Individuals who have a total score > 8, meet the criteria for KFD. Sensitivity and specificity were high: 86.8% (95% CI: 71.9%, 95.5%) and 96.9% (95% CI: 83.7%, 99.5%), AUC = 0.975 (95% CI: 90.5%, 99.6%), respectively. It can effectively distinguish KFD from lymphoma by clinical and PET/CT parameters.

RESUMO

Background: Cardiotoxicity from chemotherapy is a serious risk to the quality of survival of breast cancer survivors (BCS), and aerobic combined with resistance exercise (CE) has the potential to combat this cardiac damage. However, there is a lack of high-quality studies to assess the specific effects of CE. This study aimed to investigate the effects of CE on cardiopulmonary function (CRF) and cardiometabolic health in BCS. Methods: A comprehensively searched of the 4 databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library) from the database construction until March 1, 2023. The included studies were randomized controlled trials (RCTs) reporting the effects of CE on CRF and cardiometabolic health in BCS. The quality of the literature was assessed by two independent reviewers using the Cochrane Collaboration Risk of Bias Tool. Weight means difference (WMD), or standardized mean difference (SMD), were combined using random or fixed effects models. Subgroup and meta-regression explored heterogeneity as well as covariate effects. Results: 40 studies were included in the meta-analysis, with 2849 participants. Results showed that CE significantly increased maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) (WMD:4.55; 95% CI:2.84, 6.26; I2 = 91.90%, P < 0.001) and reduced body weight (BW) (WMD: 1.61; 95% CI: 2.44, -0.78; I2 = 38.60%, P = 0.032) and body mass index (BMI) (WMD: 0.86; 95% CI: 1.43, -0.29; I2 = 70.50%, P < 0.001) in BCS. Subgroup analysis showed that BMI (WMD: 1.15; 95% CI: 1.89, -0.41; I2 = 76.90%, P < 0.001) and VO2max (WMD:4.21; 95% CI:2.40, 6.02; I2 = 96.4%, P < 0.001) were more effective with supervision. Meta-regression analysis showed that sample size had a significant moderating effect on BW (Coeff: 0.03, 95% CI: 0.00, 0.06). Conclusions: CE significantly increases CRF in BCS and improves most cardiometabolic health-related outcomes. In addition, there will be a need for many larger RCTs to explore the effects of CE on inflammatory biomarkers in BCS.

RESUMO

High-coverage mass spectrometry analysis of single-cell metabolomics remains challenging due to the extremely low abundance and wide polarity of metabolites and ultra-small volume in single cells. Herein, a novel concentric hybrid ionization source, nanoelectrospray ionization-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (nanoESI-APCI), is ingeniously designed to detect polar and nonpolar metabolites simultaneously in single cells. The source is constructed by inserting a pulled glass capillary coaxially into a glass tube that acts as a dielectric barrier layer. Benefitting from the integrated advantages of nanoESI and APCI, its limit of detection is improved by one order of magnitude to 10 pg mL-1. After the operational parameter optimization, 254 metabolites detected in nanoESI-APCI are tentatively identified from a single cell, and 82 more than those in nanoESI. The developed nanoESI-APCI is successively applied to study the metabolic heterogeneity of human hepatocellular carcinoma tissue microenvironment united with laser capture microdissection (LCM), the discrimination of cancer cell types and subtypes, the metabolic perturbations to glucose starvation in MCF7 cells and the metabolic regulation of cancer stem cells. These results demonstrated that the nanoESI-APCI not only opens a new avenue for high-coverage and high-sensitivity metabolomics analysis of single cell, but also facilitates spatially resolved metabolomics study coupled with LCM.

RESUMO

Objective: This study explored whether thyroglobulin and thyroid disease prevalence rates were higher in pregnant Chinese women with a median urinary iodine concentration of 100-149 µg/L, compared with those with a median urinary iodine concentration of 150-249 µg/L maintained through sustainable universal salt iodization. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study in which 812 healthy pregnant women were enrolled to collect samples of their household edible salt, urine, and blood during their routine antenatal care in the 18 counties in Fujian Province, China. The levels of salt iodine concentration, urinary iodine concentration (UIC), free triiodothyronine (FT3), free thyroid hormone (FT4), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroid peroxidase antibody and thyroglobulin antibody were assessed during the routine antenatal care visits. Results: The median UIC (mUIC) in pregnant women was 130.8 µg/L (interquartile range = 91.5-198.1 µg/L) in the counties with an mUIC of 100-149 µg/L (Group I), and 172.0 µg/L (interquartile range = 123.5-244.4 µg/L) in the counties with an mUIC of 150-249 µg/L (Group II). Goiter prevalence and thyroid nodule detection rates showed no difference between Group I and Group II ( P > 0.05). Except for FT4 values, the TSH, FT4, FT3, Tg and Tg values > 40 (µg/L) and the thyroid diseases prevalence rate (TDR) showed no significant differences between Group I and Group II ( P > 0.05), whether or not iodine supplementation measures were taken. Conclusion: Compared with an mUIC of 150-249 µg/L, not only there was no difference in thyroid morphology, but also the Tg value, rate of Tg values > 40 µg/L, and TDR were not higher in pregnant women in the counties with an mUIC of 100-149 µg/L achieved through sustainable universal salt iodization in Fujian Province, China.

RESUMO

Porous organic polymers (POPs) have demonstrated promising task-specific applications due to their structure designability and thus functionality. Herein, an unusual 3,4-polymerization on 1,2,5-trisubstituted pyrroles has been developed to give linear polypyrrole-3,4 in high efficiency, with Mn of 20000 and PDI of 1.7. This novel polymerization technique was applied to prepare a series of polypyrrole-based POPs (PY-POP-1-4), which exhibited high BET surface areas (up to 762 m2 g-1) with a meso-micro-supermicro hierarchically porous structure. Furthermore, PY-POPs were doped in the mixed matrix membranes based on the polysulfone matrix to enhance the gas permeability and gas pair selectivity, with H2/N2 selectivity up to 84.6 and CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivity up to 46.8 and 39.6.

RESUMO

Major depressive disorder (MDD), a common psychiatric condition, adversely affects patients' moods and quality of life. Despite the development of various treatments, many patients with MDD remain vulnerable and inadequately controlled. Since anhedonia is a feature of depression and there is evidence of leading to metabolic disorder, deep brain stimulation (DBS) to the nucleus accumbens (NAc) might be promising in modulating the dopaminergic pathway. To determine whether NAc-DBS alters glucose metabolism via mitochondrial alteration and neurogenesis and whether these changes increase neural plasticity that improves behavioral functions in a chronic social defeat stress (CSDS) mouse model. The Lab-designed MR-compatible neural probes were implanted in the bilateral NAc of C57BL/6 mice with and without CSDS, followed by DBS or sham stimulation. All animals underwent open-field and sucrose preference testing, and brain resting-state functional MRI analysis. Meanwhile, we checked the placement of neural probes in each mouse by T2 images. By confirming the placement location, mice with incorrect probe placement (the negative control group) showed no significant therapeutic effects in behavioral performance and functional connectivity (FC) after receiving electrical stimulation and were excluded from further analysis. Western blotting, seahorse metabolic analysis, and electron microscopy were further applied for the investigation of NAc-DBS. We found NAc-DBS restored emotional deficits in CSDS-subjected mice. Concurrent with behavioral amelioration, the CSDS DBS-on group exhibited enhanced FC in the dopaminergic pathway with increased expression of BDNF- and NeuN-positive cells increased dopamine D1 receptor, dopamine D2 receptors, and TH in the medial prefrontal cortex, NAc, ventral hippocampus, ventral tegmental area, and amygdala. Increased pAMPK/total AMPK and PGC-1α levels, functions of oxidative phosphorylation, and mitochondrial biogenesis were also observed after NAc-DBS treatment. Our findings demonstrate that NAc-DBS can promote BDNF expression, which alters FC and metabolic profile in the dopaminergic pathway, suggesting a potential strategy for ameliorating emotional processes in individuals with MDD.

RESUMO

Azobenzene-containing small molecules and polymers are functional photoswitchable molecules to form supramolecular nanomaterials for various applications. Recently, supramolecular nanomaterials have received enormous attention in material science because of their simple bottom-up synthesis approach, understandable mechanisms and structural features, and batch-to-batch reproducibility. Azobenzene is a light-responsive functional moiety in the molecular design of small molecules and polymers and is used to switch the photophysical properties of supramolecular nanomaterials. Herein, we review the latest literature on supramolecular nano- and micro-materials formed from azobenzene-containing small molecules and polymers through the combinatorial effect of weak molecular interactions. Different classes including complex coacervates, host-guest systems, co-assembled, and self-assembled supramolecular materials, where azobenzene is an essential moiety in small molecules, and photophysical properties are discussed. Afterward, azobenzene-containing polymers-based supramolecular photoresponsive materials formed through the host-guest approach, polymerization-induced self-assembly, and post-polymerization assembly techniques are highlighted. In addition to this, the applications of photoswitchable supramolecular materials in pH sensing, and CO2 capture are presented. In the end, the conclusion and future perspective of azobenzene-based supramolecular materials for molecular assembly design, and applications are given.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The basic method of glaucoma diagnosis is visual field examination, however, in patients with high myopia, the diagnosis of glaucoma is difficult. AIM: To explore the value of optical coherence tomography (OCT) for measuring optic disc parameters and macular thickness as a screening tool for glaucoma in patients with high myopia. METHODS: Visual values (contrast sensitivity, color vision, and best-corrected visual acuity) in three groups, patients with high myopia in Group A, patients with high myopia and glaucoma in Group B, and patients with high myopia suspicious for glaucoma in Group C, were compared. Optic disc parameters, retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, and ganglion cell layer (GCC) thickness were measured using OCT technology and used to compare the peri-optic disc vascular density of the patients and generate receiver operator characteristic (ROC) test performance curves of the RNFL and GCC for high myopia and glaucoma. RESULTS: Of a total of 98 patients admitted to our hospital from May 2018 to March 2022, totaling 196 eyes in the study, 30 patients with 60 eyes were included in Group A, 33 patients with 66 eyes were included in Group B, and 35 patients with 70 eyes were included in Group C. Data were processed for Groups A and B to analyze the efficacy of RNFL and GCC measures in distinguishing high myopia from high myopia with glaucoma. The area under the ROC curve was greater than 0.7, indicating an acceptable diagnostic value. CONCLUSION: The value of OCT measurement of RNFL and GCC thickness in diagnosing glaucoma in patients with high myopia and suspected glaucoma is worthy of development for clinical use.

RESUMO

An 8-week feeding trial was performed to evaluate the effects of dietary ß-hydroxy-ß-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation on growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp (Marsupenaeus japonicas) (initial weight: 2.00 ± 0.01 g) fed a low protein diet. The positive control diet (HP) with 490 g/kg protein and negative control diet (LP) with 440 g/kg protein were formulated. Based on the LP, 0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 and 4 g/kg ß-hydroxy-ß-methylbutyrate calcium were supplemented to design the other five diets named as HMB0.25, HMB0.5, HMB1, HMB2 and HMB4, respectively. Results showed that compared with the shrimp fed LP, the HP, HMB1 and HMB2 groups had significantly higher weight gain and specific growth rate, while significantly lower feed conversion ratio (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, intestinal trypsin activity was significantly elevated in the above three groups than that of the LP group. Higher dietary protein level and HMB inclusion upregulated the expressions of target of rapamycin, ribosomal protein S6 kinase, phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase, and serine/threonine-protein kinase in shrimp muscle, accompanied by the increases in most muscle free amino acids contents. Supplementation of 2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved muscle hardness and water holding capacity of shrimp. Total collagen content in shrimp muscle increased with increasing dietary HMB inclusion. Additionally, dietary inclusion of 2 g/kg HMB significantly elevated myofiber density and sarcomere length, while reduced myofiber diameter. In conclusion, supplementation of 1-2 g/kg HMB in a low protein diet improved the growth performance and muscle quality of kuruma shrimp, which may be ascribed to the increased trypsin activity and activated TOR pathway, as well as elevated muscle collagen content and changed myofiber morphology caused by dietary HMB.

RESUMO

Background: Sepsis is a common complication of severe trauma, burns, infection, or major surgery. This disease-related end-organ dysfunction results from systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). Acute kidney damage (AKI), also known as acute renal failure, is one of the most frequent and serious sequelae of sepsis. Nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) regulates the transcription of inflammation-related genes and operates as a mediator in the immune system. While parthenolide (PTL) has been reported to prevent harmful inflammatory reactions, its effects on sepsis-associated AKI are unknown. The current study investigates the effects of PTL in sepsis-associated AKI using cell and cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) models. Methods: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated rat glomerular mesangial cells were treated with 10 µM PTL. Inflammatory mediators, including TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß, in the culture supernatants were measured by ELISA, and NF-κB levels were assessed by qPCR. After the generation of the septic CLP model, rats were intraperitoneally injected with 500 g/kg PTL and were euthanized after 72 h. Serum and kidney samples were analyzed. Results: TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 levels were elevated after LPS treatment of rat glomerular mesangial cells (p=0.004, p=0.002, and p=0.004, respectively) but were significantly reduced in the PTL treatment group (p ≤ 0.001, p=0.01, and p ≤ 0.001). NF-κB p65 levels were also increased after LPS treatment in this group and were reduced in the PTL treatment group. PTL treatment also reduced kidney damage after CLP induction, as shown by histological analysis and reductions in the levels of BUN, Cre, KIM-1, and NAGL. CLP-induced kidney inflammation together with increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammatory-related proteins. The elevated levels of renal TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß were downregulated after PTL treatment. The PTL treatment also reduced the CLP-induced activation of NF-κB p65 in the damaged kidneys. Conclusion: PTL reduced inflammation induced by CLP-induced AKI in rat models and LPS-induced damage to glomerular mesangial cells by suppressing NF-κB signaling.

RESUMO

Protein kinase C (PKC) activation was previously associated with oncogenic features. However, small molecule inhibitors targeting PKC have so far proved ineffective in a number of clinical trials for cancer treatment. Recent progresses have revealed that most PKC mutations detected in diverse cancers actually lead to loss-of-function, thus suggesting the tumor-suppressive roles of PKC proteins. Unfortunately, the development of chemicals to enhance PKC activity is lagging behind relative to its small molecular inhibitors. Here, we report that a bisindolylmaleimide derivative (3,4-bis(1-(prop-2-ynyl)-1H-indol-3-yl)-1 H-pyrrole-2,5-dione, BD-15) significantly inhibited cell growth in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Mechanistically, BD-15 treatment resulted in markedly enhanced phosphorylation of PKC substrates and led to cell cycle arrest in G2/M. Further, BD-15 treatment upregulated p21 protein levels and enhanced p21 phosphorylation. BD-15 also promoted caspase3 cleavage and triggered cellular apoptosis. In xenograft mouse models, BD-15 exerted anti-tumor effects to suppress in vivo tumor formation. Collectively, our findings revealed the tumor-suppressive roles of BD-15 through enhancing PKC signaling and thus leading to upregulation of p21 expression and phosphorylation.

RESUMO

Background: Neonatal death often occurs in tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). In China, end-of-life-care (EOLC) does not always involve parents. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate a parent support intervention to integrate parents at the end of life of their infant in the NICU. Methods: A quasi-experimental study using a non-randomized clinical trial design was conducted between May 2020 and September 2021. Participants were infants in an EOLC pathway in the NICU and their parents. Parents were allocated into a family supportive EOLC intervention group or a standard EOLC group based on their wishes. The primary outcomes depression (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale for mothers; Hamilton Depression rating scale for fathers) and Satisfaction with Care were measured 1 week after infants' death. Student t-test for continuous variables and the Chi-square test categorical variables were used in the statistical analysis. Results: In the study period, 62 infants died and 45 infants and 90 parents were enrolled; intervention group 20 infants, standard EOLC group 25 infants. The most common causes of death in both groups were congenital abnormalities (n = 20, 44%). Mean gestational age of infants between the family supportive EOLC group and standard EOLC group was 31.45 vs. 33.8 weeks (p = 0.234). Parents between both groups did not differ in terms of age, delivery of infant, and economic status. In the family support group, higher education levels were observed among mother (p = 0.026) and fathers (p = 0.020). Both mothers and fathers in the family supportive EOLC group had less depression compared to the standard EOLC groups; mothers (mean 6.90 vs. 7.56; p = 0.017) and fathers (mean 20.7 vs. 23.1; p < 0.001). Parents reported higher satisfaction in the family supportive EOLC group (mean 88.9 vs. 86.6; p < 0.001). Conclusions: Supporting parents in EOLC in Chinese NICUs might decreased their depression and increase satisfaction after the death of their infant. Future research needs to focus on long-term effects and expand on larger populations with different cultural backgrounds. RESUMO

Objective: Accumulating experimental evidence has identified the beneficial effects of the anti-aging protein, serum soluble α-Klotho, on longevity, and the cardiovascular system. Although a previous study has revealed the predictive value of α-Klotho on total cardiovascular disease (CVD), the associations between α-Klotho and specific CVDs, including congestive heart failure (CHF), coronary heart disease (CHD), myocardial infarction (MI), and stroke, remains to be fully elucidated in humans. Methods: For 8,615 adults in the 2007 to 2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, stratified multivariable logistic regression models, restricted cubic spline curves, and subgroup analyses were used to evaluate the associations between α-Klotho and the four specific CVDs. Results: In the quartile analyses, compared to those in the highest quartile, participants in the lowest level of α-Klotho were significantly associated with CHF [odds ratio (OR) = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.09-1.97] and MI (1.33, 1.02-1.74), which was not the case for CHD (1.12, 0.91-1.38) or stroke (0.96, 0.73-1.25). Each unit increment in the ln-transformed α-Klotho concentrations was only positively associated with a 38 and 24% reduction in the prevalence of CHF and MI, respectively. Restricted cubic spline curves indicated that the α-Klotho was correlated with CHF and MI in linear-inverse relationships. Conclusion: The present findings suggested that the serum soluble α-Klotho is significantly associated with the prevalence of CHF and MI. To better determine whether α-Klotho is a specific biomarker of CVD, particularly for CHD and stroke, further research in humans is needed.

RESUMO

Background: Sepsis is defined as a host inflammatory response to infection that can result in end-organ dysfunction. One of the most common consequences of sepsis is acute kidney injury (AKI). Panax notoginseng powder (PNP) has been previously reported to protect against overactive inflammation process. However, the potential effect of PNP on septic AKI is poorly described. The current study was conducted to investigate the protective effects of PNP in septic AKI rats. Methods: A model of septic AKI was established on male SD rats by using the cecal ligation and puncture procedure. PNP was administrated by gavage after the cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) procedure, and the mice were sacrificed at 6, 12, and 72 h after induction of sepsis. The serum and kidney samples were collected and assayed for biochemical tests, histopathological staining, inflammation, and apoptosis-related gene/protein expression. In addition, 15 rats in each group were used to calculate the 7-day survival rate. Results: CLP-induced kidney injury was observed by the histopathological score, which markedly was attenuated by PNP treatment. Consistently, PNP intervention significantly alleviated the elevated levels of serum creatinine and blood urea nitrogen in CLP-induced sepsis rats. The CLP procedure also triggered proinflammatory cytokine production and increased the expression of various inflammation-related proteins in the kidneys. However, PNP inhibited the renal expression of IL-18, IL-1ß, TNF-α, and IL-6 to substantially improve inflammatory response. Mechanistically, CLP induced the increase of the NF-κB p65 level in the injured kidneys, while PNP notably inhibited the corresponding protein expression. Conclusion: PNP attenuated kidney inflammation to protect against CLP-induced septic AKI in rats via inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.

RESUMO

To assess the effect of elevated CO2 on the development, fecundity, and population dynamic parameters of L. erysimi, the age-stage, two-sex life table was used to predict the individual fitness and population parameters of three successive generations of L. erysimi in this study. The results show that a significantly longer total pre-adult stage before oviposition (TPOP) was observed in the third generation compared with the first generation of L. erysimi under the 800 µL/L CO2 treatment. The fecundity is significantly lower in the 800 µL/L CO2 treatment than that in the 400 µL/L CO2 treatment in the third generation of L. erysimi, which indicates that elevated CO2 had a negative effect on the individual fitness parameters of L. erysimi. Additionally, the life expectancy (exj) is significantly lower under the 800 µL/L CO2 treatment than that under the 400 µL/L CO2 treatment in the three successive generations. A significantly higher intrinsic rate of increase (r) and finite rate of increase (λ) were found in the second generation compared with those in the first and third generations of L. erysimi under the 800 µL/L CO2 treatment. Moreover, significantly lower r and λ were observed under the 800 µL/L CO2 treatment compared with those under the 400 µL/L and 600 µL/L CO2 treatments in the first generation of L. erysimi, which indicates that elevated CO2 has a short-term effect on the population parameters (r and λ) of L. erysimi. Our experiment can provide the data for the comprehensive prevention and control of L. erysimi in the future with increasing CO2 levels.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the incidence and associated factors of hypothyroidism after radioiodine treatment for hyperthyroidism during a 13-year follow-up period. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: This was a retrospective study of consecutive patients with hyperthyroidism who were treated using a single dose of radioactive iodine (RAI) with a calculated dose regimen from 07/2005 to 12/2012. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression models were used to examine the factors that are associated with the occurrence of hypothyroidism after RAI therapy. Kaplan-Meier analysis was used for confirming associations between these models. RESULTS: A total of 182 patients were included during a 7.5-year median follow-up (range: 6-13 years). They were 36.4±11.1 years. The mean radioactive iodine dosage was 308.2±104.3 (range: 129.5-740.0) MBq. The rates of euthyroidism, early hypothyroidism, improvement, and ineffective treatment at 6 months were 48.4%, 37.9%, 8.8%, and 4.9%, respectively. The cumulative incidence of hypothyroidism in all patients with hyperthyroidism was 45.6% at 1 year, 48.9% at 5 years, and 52.3% at 10 years. Thyroid weight >46g (HR=0.643, 95%CI: 0.422-0.981, P=0.040) and a course of disease of 0.5-3 years (HR=0.592, 95%CI: 0.358-0.981, P=0.042) were identified as independent factors associated with an increased risk of hypothyroidism after radioactive iodine therapy. CONCLUSION: Radioactive iodine treatment with a calculated dose has a high cure rate for hyperthyroidism and has a low annual increase of hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism after radioactive iodine treatment is more likely to occur in patients with small thyroid and a short disease course.
