Possible involvement of endothelin peptides and L-arginine-nitric oxide pathway on the effect of endotoxin in the rabbit isolated perfused kidney.

Escherichia coli endotoxin (LPS) when infused through the renal artery of the rabbit isolated perfused kidney prepared as constant pressure mode, caused a decrease in flow rate and kidney weight indicating its primary vasoconstrictor effect. This effect was predominant in kidneys from rabbits pretreated with LPS. Endothelin-1 at a concentration of 10(-10) M and big endothelin-1 at a concentration of 10(-8) M produced equal vasoconstrictor effects in kidney. Addition of endotheHn converting enzyme inhibitor, phosphoramidon, to the perfusion medium at a concentration of 10(-6) M caused a reduction in the effects of both LPS and big ET-1 without altering the vasoconstrictor effect of ETol. However, addition of methylene blue (10(-5) M), a soluble guanylate cyclase inhibitor and N(G)-nitro-L-arginine-methyl ester (10(-6) M) to the perfusion medium caused a potentiation in the vasoconstrictor effect of LPS. Indomethacin at a concentration of 10(-6) M did not alter the effect of LPS. These results were taken as evidence for the participation of endothelin peptides and the L-arginine-nitric oxide pathway in the effect ofLPS in rabbit isolated perfused kidney.

[Biochemical typing of Enterobacter isolated from several clinical materials]. / Degisik klinik örneklerden üretilen enterobacter'lerin biyokimyasal tip tayini.

A total of 74 Enterobacter species have been isolated from the patients applying to the department of Microbiology, University of Ankara, Studying several biochemical test systems their strains have been found. 37 of these Enterobacter species have been found to be Enterobacter cloacae, 10 Enterobacter agglomerans, 13 Enterobacter aerogenes, 3 Enterobacter hafniae (Hafnia alvei), 1 Enterobacter sakazakii. 2 of the strains couldn't be classified. In conclusion most of the strains were found to be Enterobacter cloacae.

Nocardia carnea was isolated from the subdermal abscesses on the leg and supraclavicular region of a kidney transplanted female patient.

Release of labile cyclo-oxygenase products of arachidonic acid from kidney by endotoxin.

The possible release of prostaglandin (PG)-like substances was studied in isolated perfused kidneys from intact and from intrarenal endotoxin (Lipopolysaccharide-LPS)-injected rabbits, using the venous outflow superflow superfuse assay organ technique. Injection of LPS into the renal artery of an LPS-pretreated kidney caused a release of thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and prostacyclin (PGI2)-like materials into the venous effluent as verified by the responses of the specific assay organs. No detectable release of these substances was found in the venous outflow of LPS-injected intact kidney. The possible role of labile cyclo-oxygenase products of arachidonic acid in the Shwartzman reaction is discussed.

New media for the isolation of Vibrio cholerae.

The new media are recommended for the isolation of cholera vibrios. The medium for Vibrio El Tor contains only starch, gelatin polymyxin B and natrium chloride and has no nutrient or inhibitor substances such as peptone, meat extract, yeast extract, blood, natrium taurocholate and bile salts. The medium for Vibrio cholerae contains starch, gelatin, natrium taurocholate and potassium tellurite, but has no peptone, meat extract, yeast extract or polymyxin B.

[Effects of S. aureus antigens in allergic dermatitis, immunological aspects, and the results of treatment (author's transl)]. / Allerjik dermatit'lerde S. aureus antijenlerinin etkisi, immünolojik yönleri ve tedavi sonuçlari.

A case of S. aureus dermatitis of 4 years duration is discussed. The case was analysed immunologically by means of various Staphylococcal antigens including protein A which can sensitize human skin. The case was treated with Staphylococcal vaccine and drugs, combined with local corticosteroid application, and she recovered in a short time.

Corynebacterium endocarditis isolated from the blood culture obtained in fever period of a patient who had endocarditis and hospitalized in cardiology department of Ankara University Medical School. Good result is obtained by penicillin therapy. Other cases in literature are discussed.

Atopic eczema cases due to S. aureus, the results of immunodiffision analyses of serum samples from the patients, the staphylococcal antibodies before and after the immunisation with different staphylococcal vaccines are discussed.

[Skin tests with Yersinia pseudotuberculosis antigen in Turkey (author's transl)]. / Türkiye'nin degisik bölgelerinde Yersinia pseudotuberculosis antijeni ile yapilan cilt testi sonuçlari.

Intradermal reactions to Yersinia pseudotuberculosis antigen are investigated on 2759 persons in different regions of Turkey (Samsun, Antalya, Urfa, Diyarbakir, Hakkâri, Agri, Denizli and Ankara provinces). This test was found positive in 56 persons. The highest percentage of positive reactions was observed on the people from Samsun, Diyarbakir and Urfa. No positive tests were observed on the people from Hakkâri. The skin test results were also investigated and observed considering the time of the reaction as 20 min., 24 hours and 48 hours after injection of the antigen on the people from Urfa, Agri and Hakkâri.

[A case of subacute bacterial endocarditis related to Alcaligenes faecalis]. / Alcalgenes faecalis'e bagli subakut bakteriyel endokardit olgusu.

Alcaligenes faecalis was isolated from the blood culture of an 18 years old patient with subacute bacterial endocarditis and rheumatic valvular disease. Isolated strain agglutinated with patient's serum at a ratio of 1/160.

Pseudomonas like bacteria group Ve biotype I was isolated three times from the specimens taken by thorocenthessis from a patient with subdiaphragmatic abscess who was admitted to the Thoracic Diseases Clinic in the University of Ankara School of Medicine.

621 citellus, 41 Mus musculus, 35 microtus, 442 meriones, 70 Rattus rattus, 56 turtle, 89 hare, 1 hamster, 1 hedgehog and 1 sea snake, altogether 1379 wild animals were captured in Ankara, Konya, Urfa and Nevsehir. Neither Brucella or Francisella tularansis could be isolated nor borrelia could be seen. 1/40-1/80 agglutination titers obtained in 3 out of 134 sera taken from citellus, in 3 out of 264 sera taken from guinea pigs which were inoculated with spleen, liver and kidney suspensions of wild animals. 1/40-1/80 agglutination titers obtained against brucella antigen in 3 out of 125 sera taken from citellus. No significant agglutination titers could be obtained in 35 sera taken from guinea pigs which were inoculated with the organ suspensions of wild animals. In blood samples of 2 citellus few trypanosoma were detected.

Two strains of Yersinia pseudotuberculosis were isolated from wild animals collected from different regions in Anatolia. Skin test with Y. pseudotuberculosis antigen on human subjects in various parts of Turkey gave a high percentage of positive results. It seems probable that this microorganism can cause infections in man transmitted by wild animals.
