Objective: Rifampin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB) remains a serious global public health concern. We assessed treatment outcomes and associated influencing factors among RR-TB patients in China. Methods: This research enrolled 1339 patients who started RR-TB treatment between May 2018 and April 2020 in China retrospectively. Data were collected from the electronic medical records. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to identify the influencing factors related to unfavorable outcomes. Results: Of the 1339 RR-TB patients, 78.8% (1055/1339) achieved treatment success (cured or treatment completed), 5.1% (68/1339) experienced treatment failure, 1.1% (15/1339) died during treatment, 10.1% (135/1339) were lost to follow-up, and 4.9% (66/1339) were not evaluated. About 67.7% (907/1339) of patients experienced at least one adverse event (AE). The most common AE was hypohepatia (507/1339, 37.9%), followed by hyperuricemia (429/1339, 32.0%), anemia (368/1339, 27.5%), electrolyte disturbance (318/1339, 23.7%), peripheral neuritis (245/1339, 18.3%), and gastrointestinal reactions (203/1339, 15.2%). Multivariate analysis showed that age ≥60 years [adjusted odds ratio (aOR): 1.96, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.39-2.77], national minority (aOR: 2.36, 95% CI: 1.42-3.93), smoking (aOR: 1.50, 95% CI: 1.10-2.04), cardiopathy (aOR: 2.90, 95% CI: 1.33-6.31), tumors (aOR: 9.84, 95% CI: 2.27-42.67), immunocompromise (aOR: 2.17, 95% CI: 1.21-3.91), re-treated TB (aOR: 1.46, 95% CI: 1.08-1.97), and experienced gastrointestinal reactions (aOR: 2.27, 95% CI: 1.52-3.40) were associated with unfavorable outcomes. Body mass index (BMI) ≥18.5 kg/m2, regimens containing bedaquiline and experienced adverse events (AEs) such as hypohepatia, leukopenia, peripheral neuritis, and optic neuritis were associated with favorable outcomes. Conclusion: High rates of treatment success were achieved for RR-TB patients at tertiary tuberculosis hospitals in China. Age ≥60 years, national minority, smoking status, comorbidities, re-treated TB, and experienced gastrointestinal reactions were independent prognostic factors for unfavorable treatment outcomes.

The performance of organic solar cell (OSC) devices has been significantly enhanced by the dramatic evolution of A-D-A type non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs). Nevertheless, the structure-property-performance relationship of NFAs in the OSC device is unclear. Here, the intrinsic design factors of isomeric, fluorination and π-conjunction curtailing on the photophysical properties of benzodi (thienopyran) (BDTP) (named NBDTP-M, NBDTTP-M, NBDTP-Fin, and NBDTP-Fout)-based NFAs are discussed. The results show that fluorination on the terminal group of NBDTP-Fout could effectively decrease the highest occupied orbital (HOMO) energy level and the lowest unoccupied orbital (LUMO) energy level. And the long π-conjugated donor unit for NBDTTP-M could increase the HOMO energy level and bring a small HOMO-LUMO energy bandgap. Meanwhile, the substitution of external oxygen atoms and the fluorine atoms in the terminal group could introduce positive changes to the electrostatic potential of the NBDTP-Fout, favouring the charge separation at the donor/acceptor interface. Moreover, the structural design of external oxygen atom substitution, fluorination on the terminal group and curtailed π-conjugated donor unit could decrease the electron vibration-coupling of exciton diffusion, exciton dissociation and electronic transfer processes. The suppression of the exciton decay and charge recombination in those high-performance NFAs indicate that the investigated molecular designs could be effective for further improvement of OSCs.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to use artificial intelligence (AI) to integrate various radiological and clinical pathological data to identify effective predictors of contralateral cervical lymph node metastasis (CCLNM) in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and to establish a clinically applicable model to guide the extent of surgery. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 603 patients with PTC from three centers. Clinical, pathological, and ultrasonographic data were collected and utilized to develop a machine learning (ML) model for predicting CCLNM. Model development at the internal center utilized logistic regression along with other ML algorithms. Diagnostic efficacy was compared among these methods, leading to the adoption of the final model (random forest). This model was subject to AI interpretation and externally validated at other centers. RESULTS: CCLNM was associated with multiple pathological factors. The Delphian lymph node metastasis ratio, ipsilateral cervical lymph node metastasis number, and presence of ipsilateral cervical lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors for CCLNM. Following feature selection, a Delphian lymph node-CCLNM (D-CCLNM) model was established using the Random forest algorithm based on five attributes. The D-CCLNM model demonstrated the highest area under the curve (AUC; 0.9273) in the training cohort and exhibited high predictive accuracy, with AUCs of 0.8907 and 0.9247 in the external and validation cohorts, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: We developed a new, effective method that uses ML to predict CCLNM in patients with PTC. This approach integrates data from Delphian lymph nodes and clinical characteristics, offering a foundation for guiding surgical decisions, and is conveniently applicable in clinical settings.

Background & aims: Accumulating studies have demonstrated associations between single lifestyle exposures and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD). However, the joint effects of lifestyle exposures remain unclear, hindering the development of targeted prevention and control strategies. We aimed to investigate the joint associations between lifestyle exposomes and MAFLD. Methods: This study included 5,002 participants from NHANES 2017-2020. Lifestyle exposomes, including sleep duration, metabolic equivalent of task (MET), Healthy Eating Index (HEI)-2015 score, alcohol consumption, and smoke exposure, were identified from questionnaire data. MAFLD was diagnosed by vibration-controlled transient elastography measurements and laboratory data. A logistic regression model and the weighted quantile sum method were used to evaluate the associations of single and joint lifestyle exposomes, respectively, with MAFLD. The population attributable fractions (PAFs) were calculated to assess the population benefits of different intervention strategies. Results: Per-quartile range increases in sleep duration (OR=0.883, 95% CI: 0.826-0.944), MET (0.916, 0.871-0.963), and HEI-2015 score (0.827, 0.756-0.904) were significantly associated with MAFLD. The joint exposure of sleep duration, MET, and HEI-2015 score was associated with MAFLD (0.772, 0.688-0.865), with the highest weight (importance) for MET (0.526). PAFs revealed greater intervention benefits for sleep and the HEI-2015 when the majority of the population (>5%) had a low MAFLD risk (weak intervention targets), whereas MET was the most efficient intervention strategy when minority populations (≤5%) had a low MAFLD risk (strong intervention targets). Conclusion: This study demonstrated significant associations between MAFLD and single and joint exposures to sleep duration, MET, and HEI-2015 and identified physical activity as the most important lifestyle factor. Further population benefit analyses may provide evidence and suggestions for population-level interventions.

To investigate the influences of dietary protein and lipid levels on the growth, feed utilization, morphometric parameters, body composition, serum biochemical parameters, and lipid metabolism of golden pompano (Trachinotus ovatus), nine test diets containing three protein levels (35%, 40%, and 45%) and three lipid levels (8%, 13%, and 18%) were designed in the present study. Each diet (named D1-D9) was randomly assigned to feed triplicate groups of golden pompano juvenile (initial weight ~ 70 g) for 50 days. The results showed that the dietary lipid levels positively correlated with weight gain, specific growth rate, and protein efficiency ratio (PER), suggesting that the high lipid diets (18%) can be efficiently utilized in this fish species. The dietary protein levels have no significant influences on the growth and feed utilization except for the PER. Increasing dietary protein levels resulted in a decrease in hepatosomatic index (HSI), viscerosomatic index (VSI), and intestinal somatic index (ISI), while the dietary lipid level did not have a significant impact on morphological indices except for ISI. The dietary protein and lipid levels had no significant influences on the contents of crude lipid, crude ash, and moisture of whole body, while the crude protein contents was significantly affected by the dietary protein levels. Serum biochemical indexes, including cholesterol (CHO), triglycerides (TG), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), as well as HDL/LDL ratio were significantly affected by the dietary lipid levels, but not by the dietary protein levels. The expression levels of genes and their associated proteins involved in hepatic lipogenesis (Srebp-1c and Fas) and fatty acids ß-oxidation (Pparα and Cpt-1) were up-regulated with increasing dietary lipid levels, while the former was up-regulated, and the latter was down-regulated with increasing dietary protein levels. Considering the present results in terms of growth performance, feed utilization, morphometric parameters, and lipid metabolism, the recommended dietary protein and lipid levels for golden pompano are 40% and 18%, respectively. The findings suggested that this species exhibits a significant protein-sparing effect on lipid utilization.

In this editorial, we discuss the recent article by Zhao et al published in the World Journal of Diabetes, which highlights the importance of recognizing the risk indicators associated with diabetes mellitus (DM). Given the severe implications of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in hospitalized individuals- such as heightened mortality rates, prolonged hospitalizations, and increased costs- we focus on elucidating the connection between DM and nosocomial infections. Diabetic patients are susceptible to pathogenic bacterial invasion and subsequent infection, with some already harboring co-infections upon admission. Notably, DM is an important risk factor for nosocomial urinary tract infections and surgical site infections, which may indirectly affect the occurrence of nosocomial bloodstream infections, especially in patients with DM with poor glycemic control. Although evidence regarding the impact of DM on healthcare-associated pneumonias remains inconclusive, attention to this potential association is warranted. Hospitalized patients with DM should prioritize meticulous blood glucose management, adherence to standard operating procedures, hand hygiene pra-ctices, environmental disinfection, and rational use of drugs during hospitalization. Further studies are imperative to explore the main risk factors of HAIs in patients with DM, enabling the development of preventative measures and mitigating the occurrence of HAIs in these patients.

Macroautophagy/autophagy activation in renal tubular epithelial cells protects against acute kidney injury (AKI). However, the role of immune cell autophagy, such as that involving macrophages, in AKI remains unclear. In this study, we discovered that macrophage autophagy was an adaptive response during AKI as mice with macrophage-specific autophagy deficiency (atg5-/-) exhibited higher serum creatinine, more severe renal tubule injury, increased infiltration of ADGRE1/F4/80+ macrophages, and elevated expression of inflammatory factors compared to WT mice during AKI induced by either LPS or unilateral ischemia-reperfusion. This was further supported by adoptive transfer of atg5-/- macrophages, but not WT macrophages, to cause more severe AKI in clodronate liposomes-induced macrophage depletion mice. Similar results were also obtained in vitro that bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) lacking Atg5 largely increased pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in response to LPS and IFNG. Mechanistically, we uncovered that atg5 deletion significantly upregulated the protein expression of TARM1 (T cell-interacting, activating receptor on myeloid cells 1), whereas inhibition of TARM1 suppressed LPS- and IFNG-induced inflammatory responses in atg5-/- RAW 264.7 macrophages. The E3 ubiquitin ligases MARCHF1 and MARCHF8 ubiquitinated TARM1 and promoted its degradation in an autophagy-dependent manner, whereas silencing or mutation of the functional domains of MARCHF1 and MARCHF8 abolished TARM1 degradation. Furthermore, we found that ubiquitinated TARM1 was internalized from plasma membrane into endosomes, and then recruited by the ubiquitin-binding autophagy receptors TAX1BP1 and SQSTM1 into the autophagy-lysosome pathway for degradation. Direct regeneration is an effective strategy of spent lithium iron phosphate (S-LFP), with the principal aspect being the selection of the lithium source and reductant. Here, assisted with a thermodynamically favourable reaction involving a bifunctional organic lithium salt (lithium citrate), the single-step regeneration of S-LFP is successfully achieved. The structure and composition of the regenerated LFP are significantly restored, demonstrating excellent electrochemical performance (142.7 mA h g-1) with no degradation after 200 cycles.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a challenging subtype with unclear biological mechanisms. Recently, the transcription factor androgen receptor (AR) and its regulation of the DLGAP5 gene have gained attention in TNBC pathogenesis. In this study, we found a positive correlation between high AR expression and TNBC cell proliferation and growth. Furthermore, we confirmed DLGAP5 as a critical downstream regulator of AR with high expression in TNBC tissues. Knockdown of DLGAP5 significantly inhibited TNBC cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. AR was observed to directly bind to the DLGAP5 promoter, enhancing its transcriptional activity and suppressing the activation of the p53 signaling pathway. In vivo experiments further validated that downregulation of AR or DLGAP5 inhibited tumor growth and enhanced CD8+T cell infiltration. This study highlights the crucial roles of AR and DLGAP5 in TNBC growth and immune cell infiltration. Taken together, AR inhibits the p53 signaling pathway by promoting DLGAP5 expression, thereby impacting CD8+T cell infiltration in TNBC.

Polycrystalline lithium manganese oxide (LMO) is known to suffer from severe surface structure degradation and electrochemical polarization due to its mixed crystal plane orientations. A hexagonal prism single-crystal LMO (LMOS-HP), engineered through the SrO-induced preferential growth effect, features the most stable {111} top surfaces and the fastest Li+ diffusion {110} side surfaces, effectively addressing these challenges. Consequently, LMOS-HP exhibits superior electrochemical capability, with only 0.021% capacity fading per cycle after 500 cycles and achieves a discharge capacity of 81.9 mAh g-1 at 20C. This innovative design offers a promising approach for tuning surface crystal orientation to improve performance.

BACKGROUND: Adaptive immunity is an important disease mediator of pulmonary vascular remodeling during pulmonary hypertension (PH) development, especially T-cells lymphocytes. However, data for bibliometric analysis of T cell immunity in PH is currently vacant. This aimed to provide a comprehensive and visualized view of T-cells research in PH pathogenesis and to lay a solid foundation for further studies. METHODS: The data was acquired from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Web of Science analytic tool was used to analysis the publication years, authors, journals, countries, and organizations. CiteSpace 6.2.R3, VOSviewer 1.6.16, and Scimago Graphica 1.0.35.0 were applied to conduct a visualization bibliometric analysis about authors, countries, institutions, journals, references, and keywords. RESULTS: Nine hundred and eight publications from 1992 to 2022 were included in the analysis. The results showed that Humbert Marc was the most prolific author. American Journal of Physiology Lung Cellular and Molecular Physiology had the most related articles. The institution with the most articles was Udice French Research University. The United States was far ahead in the article output. Keywords analysis showed that "Pulmonary hypertension" was the most usually appeared keyword in the relevant literature, and included "T-cells", "Regulatory T cells", and "Activated T cell." "miRNA" of reference co-citation clustering analysis demonstrated the possible T-cell immunity activation mechanisms in PH. The most cited literature was published in the European Heart Journal by Galie N in 2016. The strongest citation burst of keyword is "gene expression" and terms such as "vascular remodeling," "growth," "proliferation," and "fibrosis" are among the list, indicating that T-cells interact with stromal vascular cells to induce pulmonary vascular remodeling. The strongest burst of cited reference is "Galie N, 2016." CONCLUSIONS: T-cell immunity is an important pathogenesis mechanism for PH development, which may have interaction with miRNAs and stromal vascular cells, but the possible T-cell immunity activation mechanisms in PH need to be investigated further.

Lithium carbon dioxide (Li-CO2) batteries, noted for their high discharge voltage of approximately 2.8 V and substantial theoretical specific energy of 1876 Wh kg-1, represent a promising avenue for new energy sources and CO2 emission reduction. However, the practical application of these batteries faces significant hurdles, particularly at high current densities and over extended cycle lives, due to their complex reaction mechanisms and slow kinetics. This paper delves into the recent advancements in cathode catalysts for Li-CO2 batteries, with a specific focus on the designing philosophy from composition, geometry, and homogeneity of the catalysts to the proper test conditions and real-world application. It surveys the possible catalytic mechanisms, giving readers a brief introduction of how the energy is stored and released as well as the critical exploration of the relationship between material properties and performances. Specifically, optimization and standardization of test conditions for Li-CO2 battery research is highlighted to enhance data comparability, which is also critical to facilitate the practical application of Li-CO2 batteries. This review aims to bring up inspiration from previous work to advance the design of more effective and sustainable cathode catalysts, tailored to meet the practical demands of Li-CO2 batteries.

The all-fused-ring acceptor (AFRA) is a success for nonfullerene materials and has attracted considerable attention as its high optical and chemical stability expected to reduce energy loss, and power conversion efficiency (PCE) approaching 15% in constructed all-small-molecule organic solar cells (OSCs). Herein, the intrinsic role of the structure of AFRA F13 and the reason for its high PCE were revealed by comparison with those of typical fused acceptors IDT-IC and Y6. An increased degree of conjugation in F13 leads to broader and red-shifted absorption peaks, facilitating enhancement of the short-circuit current. Multiple charge-transfer mechanisms are mainly attributed to the higher Frenkel exciton (FE) state due to the multiple transition ways for acceptors in the C1-CN:F13 system. The increased number of atoms contributing to the charge-transfer (CT) state facilitated the existence of more superior stacking patterns with easy formation of CT and FE/CT states and a high charge separation rate. It was found using the AFRA is an effective strategy to enhance end-group stacking, enhancing the borrowing of oscillator strength to promote multiple CT mechanisms in the complexes, explaining the high performance of this OSC device. This work is promising to guide designing an efficient AFRA in the future.

ITFG2, as an immune-modulatory intracellular protein that modulate the fate of B cells and negatively regulates mTORC1 signaling. ITFG2 is highly expressed in the heart, but its pathophysiological function in heart disease is unclear. In this study, we found that in MI mice, overexpression of ITFG2 via an AAV9 vector significantly reduced the infarct size and ameliorated cardiac function. Knockdown of endogenous ITFG2 by shRNA partially aggravated ischemia-induced cardiac dysfunction. In cardiac-specific ITFG2 transgenic (TG) mice, myocardial infarction size was smaller, eject fraction (EF) and fractional shortening (FS) was higher compared to those in wild-type (WT) mice, suggesting ITFG2 reversed cardiac dysfunction induced by MI. In hypoxic neonatal cardiomyocytes (NMCMs), overexpression of ITFG2 maintained mitochondrial function by increasing intracellular ATP production, reducing ROS levels, and preserving the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP). Overexpression of ITFG2 reversed the mitochondrial respiratory dysfunction in NMCMs induced by hypoxia. Knockdown of endogenous ITFG2 by siRNA did the opposite. Mechanism, ITFG2 formed a complex with NEDD4-2 and ATP 5b and inhibited the binding of NEDD4-2 with ATP 5b leading to the reduction ubiquitination of ATP 5b. Our findings reveal a previously unknown ability of ITFG2 to protect the heart against ischemic injury by interacting with ATP 5b and thereby regulating mitochondrial function. ITFG2 has promise as a novel strategy for the clinical management of MI.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore the artificial lens planting of the back room shape of the crystal eye eyes and The clinical effect of ICL in patients with myopia. Methods: A Retrospective Study Spanning from 2021 to 2023 within Huai'an First People's Hospital. This study involves the comparative analysis of 100 eyes subjected to 'Crystalline Lens Extraction + IOL' and 100 eyes undergoing 'ICL' treatment. We evaluate various postoperative parameters, including near and distant visual acuity, Visual Acuity (CVA), Best-Corrected Visual Acuity (BCVA), refractive outcomes, endothelial cell count, glare sensitivity, and the incidence of macular edema. The control group underwent Crystalline Lens Extraction + IOL, and the observation group underwent 'ICL' treatment. Visual acuity recovery, intraocular pressure, endothelial cell count, adverse reactions, and therapeutic effect were compared between the two groups. Results: The CVA before treatment and the IOP and endothelial cell count before and after treatment in the observation group were similar to those in the control group, and the differences were not statistically significant (P > .05). The CVA, BCVA, and refraction after treatment in the observation group were all higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P < .05). The number of people with significant and effective treatment effects in the observation group (total effective rate 98.00%) was higher than that in the control group (82.00%), and the difference was statistically significant (P < .05). Conclusions: The implantation of 'ICL' treatment in cases of myopia demonstrates favorable surgical outcomes in clinical practice. It effectively enhances postoperative visual function recovery while minimizing the risk of adverse reactions. The ICL implantation procedure is irreplaceable in the treatment of myopia.

Benign metastasizing leiomyoma (BML) is a rare disease that results from metastasis of uterine leiomyoma to distant sites with benign pathologic features. The lung is the most common metastatic site for BML. This report describes the case of a 49-year-old woman who presented with a mass in the abdominal wall with a surgical history of uterine myomectomy. Ultrasound and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed multiple mass lesions. The histopathology of the mass specimen indicated BML. The imaging and clinical features of BML are discussed based on the characteristics of this case and related literature reports.

Partitioned polygenic scores (pPS) have been developed to capture pathophysiologic processes underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D). We investigated the association of T2D pPS with diabetes-related traits and T2D incidence in the Diabetes Prevention Program. We generated five T2D pPS (ß-cell, proinsulin, liver/lipid, obesity, lipodystrophy) in 2,647 participants randomized to intensive lifestyle, metformin, or placebo arms. Associations were tested with general linear models and Cox regression with adjustment for age, sex, and principal components. Sensitivity analyses included adjustment for BMI. Higher ß-cell pPS was associated with lower insulinogenic index and corrected insulin response at 1-year follow-up with adjustment for baseline measures (effect per pPS SD -0.04, P = 9.6 × 10-7, and -8.45 µU/mg, P = 5.6 × 10-6, respectively) and with increased diabetes incidence with adjustment for BMI at nominal significance (hazard ratio 1.10 per SD, P = 0.035). The liver/lipid pPS was associated with reduced 1-year baseline-adjusted triglyceride levels (effect per SD -4.37, P = 0.001). There was no significant interaction between T2D pPS and randomized groups. The remaining pPS were associated with baseline measures only. We conclude that despite interventions for diabetes prevention, participants with a high genetic burden of the ß-cell cluster pPS had worsening in measures of ß-cell function.

OBJECTIVE: Designing physiologically adequate microvascular trees is of crucial relevance for bioengineering functional tissues and organs. Yet, currently available methods are poorly suited to replicate the morphological and topological heterogeneity of real microvascular trees because the parameters used to control tree generation are too simplistic to mimic results of the complex angiogenetic and structural adaptation processes in vivo. METHODS: We propose a method to overcome this limitation by integrating a conditional deep convolutional generative adversarial network (cDCGAN) with a local fractal dimension-oriented constrained constructive optimization (LFDO-CCO) strategy. The cDCGAN learns the patterns of real microvascular bifurcations allowing for their artificial replication. The LFDO-CCO strategy connects the generated bifurcations hierarchically to form microvascular trees with a vessel density corresponding to that observed in healthy tissues. RESULTS: The generated artificial microvascular trees are consistent with real microvascular trees regarding characteristics such as fractal dimension, vascular density, and coefficient of variation of diameter, length, and tortuosity. CONCLUSIONS: These results support the adoption of the proposed strategy for the generation of artificial microvascular trees in tissue engineering as well as for computational modeling and simulations of microcirculatory physiology.

BACKGROUND: In this study, we combined two techniques, ultrasound-guided needle biopsy and flow cytometry (FCM), to explore their value in patients with enlarged lymph nodes. METHODS: We compared the results of 198 needle biopsies on FCM and pathology. Forty-two were done by (fine needle aspiration, FNA), and the remaining 156 with (core needle biopsy, CNB), in 36 of 156 patients, a FNA was performed in the same lymph node after completion of the CNB. Except for five types of pathological entities, the rest were differentiated only detected or undetected tumours as the outcome distinction. RESULTS: Among the 198 needle biopsies, 13 were inadequate specimens, while the remaining 185 had pathological findings, including 47 benign and 138 neoplastic findings. Thirty-six patients underwent puncture with both FNA and CNB, both needles produced identical results by FCM, but more cells were obtained by FNA. Among the pathologically positive results, there were 23 missed diagnoses in FCM, in contrast, evidence of tumours was observed in the FCM images of 15 needle biopsies that reported benign or findings that were inconsistent with pathology, and the final diagnosis was consistent with the FCM in 10 cases. FCM detected haematolymphoid tumours with a sensitivity of 87.8% and a specificity of 91.9%. CONCLUSION: The combination of FCM and ultrasound-guided lymph node needle biopsy can quickly provide guidance for clinical decision-making. We recommend that all lymph node needle biopsies be sent for FCM, the specimen can be obtained by the last puncture with FNA.

The design of multimetal catalysts holds immense significance for efficient CO2 capture and its conversion into economically valuable chemicals. Herein, heterobimetallic catalysts (MiMo)L were exploited for the CO2 reduction reactions (CO2RR) using relativistic density functional theory (DFT). The octadentate Pacman-like polypyrrolic ligand (H4L) accommodates two metal ions (Mo, W, Nd, and U) inside (Mi) and outside (Mo) its month, rendering a weak bimetal coupling-assisted MN4 catalytically active site. Adsorption reactions have access to energetically stable coordination modes of -OCO, -OOC, and -(OCO)2, where the donor atom(s) are marked in bold. Among all of the species, (UiMoo)L releases the most energy. Along CO2RR, it favors to produce CO. The high-efficiency CO2 reduction is attributed to the size matching of U with the ligand mouth and the effective manipulation of the electron density of both ligand and bimetals. The mechanism in which heterobimetals synergetically capture and reduce CO2 has been postulated. This establishes a reference in elaborating on the complicated heterogeneous catalysis.
