RESUMO

An experiment was conducted to study the effects of water-soluble trichloromonofluoromethane freon (F-11, CC13F) on the weight of heart and on the level of freely extractable proteins in the heart of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). After three-week sublethal exposure of Japanese quail to the effect of freon the heart weight of the tested birds was found to have markedly decreased (however, the total body weight of the birds did not decrease). The tested quail also showed pronounced changes in the concentration of two protein fractions (an increase in one, a decline in the other), as determined by paper electrophoresis and polyacryl amide gel electrophoresis (however, the blood serum of the tested birds showed no changes in the levels of protein components).

RESUMO

An experiment was undertaken to study the effect of the dinoseb-acetate (Aretit) herbicide, administered in drinking water at a concentration of 100 and 200 mg x 1(-1) for four days, on the activity of transaminases (GOT and GPT) in the blood serum and muscle of the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica). GOT had higher activity values in the blood serum and muscle of the control and test birds, as compared with GPT. The herbicide increases GOT activity in the blood serum, whereas the GPT value remains unchanged. In muscle, the activity of GOT decreases as a result of the action of dinoseb-acetate and GPT activity remains unchanged. Under in vitro conditions, dinoseb-acetate (concentrated 0.01 to 1000 mg x 1(-1)) increases GOT activity in the blood serum and muscle, GPT activity remaining the same. It is assumed that transaminases are specifically involved in the adaptation mechanisms of the animals to dinoseb-acetate intoxication.

RESUMO

The effect of 7.0% and 3.5% proportion of lime protein, produced according to the patent CSP 133.077, in the diet was studied under laboratory conditions, as exerted on the growth rate of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and on the level of serum proteins and keratins in the feathers of these birds. The second generation of quail fed this diet showed an improvement of growth at the final stage and significant internal changes in the protein spectrum of the blood serum. Electrophoresis on paper and on polyacrylamide gel revealed a relative drop of albumins and gamma globulins, and a rise of alpha and beta globulins in the blood serum. Keratins showed no changes in feathers.

RESUMO

The herbicides Gramoxone (active substance paraquat dichloride) and Defenuron (active principle N-phenyl-N'-methylurea) were studied as influencing the development of the Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and the proteins in their blood serum. The aqueous solution of Gramoxone (500 ppm), applied to the egg surface, reduces the hatchability percentage and delays hatching. Under similar conditions, Defenuron has no inhibitory effect on embryonal development. Gramoxone in drinking water (100 ppm) causes 100% mortality of young quail within a week's time whereas the same amount of Defenuron does not affect the vitality of the birds. Sublethal concentrations of Gramoxone in drinking water (40 ppm) cause great quantitative changes in the proteinogram of the blood serum of the birds. The herbicide Defenuron does not influence the proteinogram even at a concentration of 100 ppm of the active substance in drinking water.

RESUMO

In the course of three weeks an investigation of the growth and of the liver proteins of ducks intoxicated with nickel dichloride (0.20 in equilibrium 0.002 g Ni2+ per 100 g of feeds) and nickel ashes (5 g of solid ashes per 100 g of feeds) was carried out. It was found out that young ducks reacted sensitively with their growth to a high content of Ni2+ in the feeds, but also their resistance to nickel salt contained in the ashes. In animals fed feeds with a high content of nickel dichloride there occurred marked changes in the protein spectrum of the liver. After lowering the concentration of Ni2+ in the feeds there occured settling of the body growth and of the proteinogram.
