RESUMO

A novel Fe2Mo3O8/MoO2@MoS2 nanocomposite is synthesized for extremely sensitive detection of NH3 in the breath of kidney disease patients at room temperature. Compared to MoS2, α-Fe2O3/MoS2, and MoO2@MoS2, it shows the optimal gas-sensing performance by optimizing the formation of Fe2Mo3O8 at 900 °C. The annealed Fe2Mo3O8/MoO2@MoS2 nanocomposite (Fe2Mo3O8/MoO2@MoS2-900 °C) sensor demonstrates a remarkably high selectivity of NH3 with a response of 875% to 30 ppm NH3 and an ultralow detection limit of 3.7 ppb. This sensor demonstrates excellent linearity, repeatability, and long-term stability. Furthermore, it effectively differentiates between patients at varying stages of kidney disease through quantitative NH3 measurements. The sensing mechanism is elucidated through the analysis of alterations in X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) signals, which is supported by density functional theory (DFT) calculations illustrating the NH3 adsorption and oxidation pathways and their effects on charge transfer, resulting in the conductivity change as the sensing signal. The excellent performance is mainly attributed to the heterojunction among MoS2, MoO2, and Fe2Mo3O8 and the exceptional adsorption and catalytic activity of Fe2Mo3O8/MoO2@MoS2-900 °C for NH3. This research presents a promising new material optimized for detecting NH3 in exhaled breath and a new strategy for the early diagnosis and management of kidney disease.

RESUMO

Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) has emerged as a significant economic fish species, with a rise in Aeromonas veronii infections in farming. However, research on adjuvants for vaccines against A. veronii in largemouth bass remains scarce. In present study, recombinant largemouth bass IL-1ß (LbIL-1ß) was expressed to explore its adjuvant effect on the A. veronii inactivated vaccine. Following vaccination with recombinant LbIL-1ß (rLbIL-1ß) and the inactivated A. veronii, higher serum SOD levels and lysozyme activities were observed in largemouth bass from inactivated A. veronii + rLbIL-1ß vaccinated group. Furthermore, it was discovered that rLbIL-1ß was able to boost the serum-specific antibody levels induced by the inactivated A. veronii. The qRT-PCR analysis revealed that rLbIL-1ß also enhanced the expression of IgM, CD4, and MHC II in largemouth bass triggered by the inactivated A. veronii. After challenged with live A. veronii, the outcomes demonstrated that the relative percentage survival (RPS) for largemouth bass resulting from the inactivated A. veronii in combination with rLbIL-1ß was 76.67 %, surpassing the RPS of 60 % in the inactivated A. veronii group. Collectively, these findings indicate that rLbIL-1ß enhances the protective effect of the A. veronii inactivated vaccine on largemouth bass, showcasing potential as an adjuvant for further development.

RESUMO

AIMS: This study aimed to examine the relationship between emergency capacity, coping styles, and mental workload among nurses. BACKGROUND: Emergency capacity, coping styles, and mental workload are all variables associated with work. Identifying the relationship between these variables can facilitate administrators to implement tailored and effective intervention strategies to improve individual performance, quality of care, and medical safety. METHODS: A quantitative cross-sectional study was carried out to investigate 605 Chinese clinical nurses in seven tertiary hospitals by using personal information form, emergency capacity scale for nurses, simplified coping skill questionnaire, and the NASA-Task Load Index. RESULTS: Emergency capacity and mental workload were found at moderate levels. The multiple linear regression model suggested that spinsterhood, no children, high workload, always anxiety or nervousness, and lower monthly income were the influencing factors of mental workload. Positive coping style was positively correlated with emergency capacity and negatively correlated with mental workload. Negative coping style was negatively related to emergency capacity and positively related to mental workload. Additionally, coping styles played a partial mediating role in the relationship between emergency capacity and mental workload through constructing a structural equation model, but the effects of positive coping style and negative coping style are opposite. CONCLUSION: Our results showed that coping styles played a mediating role in the relationship between emergency capacity and mental workload. Managers can alleviate the mental workload of nurses by cultivating positive coping styles and improving emergency capacity. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING AND NURSING POLICY: Mental workload of nurses deserves more attention in medical institutions. The results of our study provide evidence for improving employee health, promoting positive behaviors, and optimizing organizational management. Nursing managers should take feasible measures to fulfill nurses' needs for emergency capacity and coping strategies to alleviate nurses' mental workload, so as to stimulate their intrinsic motivation and positive organizational behavior.

RESUMO

Developing multifunctional engineered adsorbents is an effective strategy for decontaminating the environment from various pollutants. In this study, a polyfunctionalized carbon-framework composite, MSC-CFM, was synthesized. The composite comprises an aromatic carbon framework enriched with various functional groups, including magnetic nanoparticles, hydroxyl, and amino groups. MSC-CFM was used to decontaminate Cr(VI) and polycyclic aromatic nitrides (p-dimethylaminoazobenzene sulfonate (DAS) and diphenyl-4, 4 '-di [sodium (azo-2 -) -1-amino-naphthalene-4-sulfonate] (DANS)) from acidic wastewater. The adsorption capacities of MSC-CFM for Cr(VI), DAS and DANS, quantified using the Langmuir isotherm model, were 161.28, 310.83, and 1566.09 mg/g, respectively. Cr(VI) and PAHs (DAS and DANS) were monolayer adsorbed controlled by chemisorption. MSC-CFM could maintain good adsorption efficiency after up to 6 adsorption and desorption cycles. The presence of polycyclic aromatic nitrides promoted the adsorption of Cr(VI) in the Cr(VI)-DAS/DANS binary systems. Removal of pollutants by MSC-CFM involved a variety of unreported reaction mechanisms, such as electrostatic attraction, redox reaction, anion exchange, intermolecular hydrogen bonding, complexation reaction, π-π interaction, and anion-π interaction. MSC-CFM, enriched with a variety of functional groups, is a promising new material for environmental protection. It has good potential for practical application in treating polluted wastewater.

RESUMO

Background: Previous studies have shown that MCM3 plays a key role in initiating DNA replication. However, the mechanism of MCM3 function in most cancers is still unknown. The aim of our study was to explore the expression, prognostic role, and immunological characteristics of MCM3 across cancers. Methods: We explored the expression pattern of MCM3 across cancers. We subsequently explored the prognostic value of MCM3 expression by using univariate Cox regression analysis. Spearman correlation analysis was performed to determine the correlations between MCM3 and immune-related characteristics, mismatching repair (MMR) signatures, RNA modulator genes, cancer stemness, programmed cell death (PCD) gene expression, tumour mutation burden (TMB), microsatellite instability (MSI), and neoantigen levels. The role of MCM3 in predicting the response to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) therapy was further evaluated in four immunotherapy cohorts. Single-cell data from CancerSEA were analysed to assess the biological functions associated with MCM3 in 14 cancers. The clinical correlation and independent prognostic significance of MCM3 were further analysed in the TCGA and CGGA lower-grade glioma (LGG) cohorts, and a prognostic nomogram was constructed. Immunohistochemistry in a clinical cohort was utilized to validate the prognostic utility of MCM3 expression in LGG. Results: MCM3 expression was upregulated in most tumours and strongly associated with patient outcomes in many cancers. Correlation analyses demonstrated that MCM3 expression was closely linked to immune cell infiltration, immune checkpoints, MMR genes, RNA modulator genes, cancer stemness, PCD genes and the TMB in most tumours. There was an obvious difference in outcomes between patients with high MCM3 expression and those with low MCM3 expression in the 4 ICB treatment cohorts. Single-cell analysis indicated that MCM3 was mainly linked to the cell cycle, DNA damage and DNA repair. The expression of MCM3 was associated with the clinical features of LGG patients and was an independent prognostic indicator. Finally, the prognostic significance of MCM3 in LGG was validated in a clinical cohort. Conclusion: Our study suggested that MCM3 can be used as a potential prognostic marker for cancers and may be associated with tumour immunity. In addition, MCM3 is a promising predictor of immunotherapy responses.

RESUMO

Myofibrillar proteins are an important component of proteins. Flavor characteristics are the key attributes of food quality. The ability of proteins to bind flavor is one of their most fundamental functional properties. The dynamic balance of release and retention of volatile flavor compounds in protein-containing systems largely affects the sensory quality and consumer acceptability of foods. At present, research on flavor mainly focuses on the formation mechanism of flavor components, while there are few reports on the release and perception of flavor components. This review introduces the composition and structure of myofibrillar proteins, the classification of flavor substances, the physical binding and chemical adsorption of myofibrillar proteins and volatile flavor substances, as well as clarifies the regulation law of flavor substances from the viewpoint of endogenous flavor characteristics and exogenous environment factors, to provide a theoretical reference for the flavor regulation of meat products.

RESUMO

Cardiopulmonary progenitor cells (CPPs) constitute a minor subpopulation of cells that are commonly associated with heart and lung morphogenesis during embryonic development but completely subside after birth. This fact offers the possibility for the treatment of pulmonary heart disease (PHD), in which the lung and heart are both damaged. A reliable source of CPPs is urgently needed. In this study, we reprogrammed human cardiac fibroblasts (HCFs) into CPP-like cells (or induced CPPs, iCPPs) and evaluated the therapeutic potential of iCPP-derived exosomes for acute lung injury (ALI). iCPPs were created in passage 3 primary HCFs by overexpressing GLI1, WNT2, ISL1 and TBX5 (GWIT). Exosomes were isolated from the culture medium of passage 6-8 GWIT-iCPPs. A mouse ALI model was established by intratracheal instillation of LPS. Four hours after LPS instillation, ALI mice were treated with GWIT-iCPP-derived exosomes (5 × 109, 5 × 1010 particles/mL) via intratracheal instillation. We showed that GWIT-iCPPs could differentiate into cell lineages, such as cardiomyocyte-like cells, endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and alveolar epithelial cells, in vitro. Transcription analysis revealed that GWIT-iCPPs have potential for heart and lung development. Intratracheal instillation of iCPP-derived exosomes dose-dependently alleviated LPS-induced ALI in mice by attenuating lung inflammation, promoting endothelial function and restoring capillary endothelial cells and the epithelial cells barrier. This study provides a potential new method for the prevention and treatment of cardiopulmonary injury, especially lung injury, and provides a new cell model for drug screening.

RESUMO

A hierarchical sea urchin-like hybrid metal oxide nanostructure of ZnO nanorods deposited on TiO2porous hollow hemispheres with a thin zinc titanate interface layer is specifically designed and synthesized to form a combined type I straddling and type II staggered junctions. The HHSs, synthesized by electrospinning, facilitate light trapping and scattering. The ZnO nanorods offer a large surface area for improved surface oxidation kinetics. The interface layer of zinc titanate (ZnTiO3) between the TiO2HHSs and ZnO nanorods regulates the charge separation in a closely coupled hierarchy structure of ZnO/ZnTiO3/TiO2. The synergistic effects of the improved light trapping, charge separation, and fast surface reaction kinetics result in a superior photoconversion efficiency of 1.07% for the photoelectrochemical water splitting with an outstanding photocurrent density of 2.8 mA cm-2at 1.23 V versus RHE.

RESUMO

The extracellular substance of Bacillus has antibacterial effects inhibiting multiple foodborne pathogens and plays important roles in food production. This study found one Bacillus velezensis BVQ121 strain producing antibacterial lipopeptides (BVAL). After optimization of the fermentation conditions, the BVAL yield was the highest at 1.316 ± 0.03 g/L in reality with the initial pH 6.0, temperature 31 °C, and shaker speed 238 rpm when the optimal nitrogen and carbon sources were used in Landy medium for fermentation. The antibacterial components were identified as iturin, surfactin, and fengycin by HPLC and MALDI-TOF-MS. The MIC was at 2 mg/mL and MBC was at 5 mg/mL. The 6% weight ratio of nanocellulose dosage in chitosan solution could improve the tensile length and strength of the film, and the antibacterial performance was enhanced by the addition of BVAL. The addition of BVAL had no effect on the color and ductility of the film and improved its antibacterial effect. The shelf life of pigeon eggs can be extended by more than 10 days to resist bacterial infections after coating with the chitosan-nanocellulose-BVAL film solution.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Inaccurate Forrest classification may significantly affect clinical outcomes, especially in high risk patients. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a real-time deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) system to assess the Forrest classification of peptic ulcer bleeding (PUB). METHODS: A training dataset (3868 endoscopic images) and an internal validation dataset (834 images) were retrospectively collected from the 900th Hospital, Fuzhou, China. In addition, 521 images collected from four other hospitals were used for external validation. Finally, 46 endoscopic videos were prospectively collected to assess the real-time diagnostic performance of the DCNN system, whose diagnostic performance was also prospectively compared with that of three senior and three junior endoscopists. RESULTS: The DCNN system had a satisfactory diagnostic performance in the assessment of Forrest classification, with an accuracy of 91.2% (95%CI 89.5%-92.6%) and a macro-average area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.80 in the validation dataset. Moreover, the DCNN system could judge suspicious regions automatically using Forrest classification in real-time videos, with an accuracy of 92.0% (95%CI 80.8%-97.8%). The DCNN system showed more accurate and stable diagnostic performance than endoscopists in the prospective clinical comparison test. This system helped to slightly improve the diagnostic performance of senior endoscopists and considerably enhance that of junior endoscopists. CONCLUSION: The DCNN system for the assessment of the Forrest classification of PUB showed satisfactory diagnostic performance, which was slightly superior to that of senior endoscopists. It could therefore effectively assist junior endoscopists in making such diagnoses during gastroscopy.

RESUMO

Background: Programmed cell death is closely related to glioma. As a novel kind of cell death, the mechanism of disulfidptosis in glioma remains unclear. Therefore, it is of great importance to study the role of disulfidptosis-related genes (DRGs) in glioma. Methods: We first investigated the genetic and transcriptional alterations of 15 DRGs. Two consensus cluster analyses were used to evaluate the association between DRGs and glioma subtypes. In addition, we constructed prognostic DRG risk scores to predict overall survival (OS) in glioma patients. Furthermore, we developed a nomogram to enhance the clinical utility of the DRG risk score. Finally, the expression levels of DRGs were verified by immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining. Results: Most DRGs (14/15) were dysregulated in gliomas. The 15 DRGs were rarely mutated in gliomas, and only 50 of 987 samples (5.07 %) showed gene mutations. However, most of them had copy number variation (CNV) deletions or amplifications. Two distinct molecular subtypes were identified by cluster analysis, and DRG alterations were found to be related to the clinical characteristics, prognosis, and tumor immune microenvironment (TIME). The DRG risk score model based on 12 genes was developed and showed good performance in predicting OS. The nomogram confirmed that the risk score had a particularly strong influence on the prognosis of glioma. Furthermore, we discovered that low DRG scores, low tumor mutation burden, and immunosuppression were features of patients with better prognoses. Conclusion: The DRG risk model can be used for the evaluation of clinical characteristics, prognosis prediction, and TIME estimation of glioma patients. These DRGs may be potential therapeutic targets in glioma.

RESUMO

Patents play a crucial role in drug research and development, providing early access to unpublished data and offering unique insights. Identifying key compounds in patents is essential to finding novel lead compounds. This study collected a comprehensive data set comprising 1555 patents, encompassing 1000 key compounds, to explore innovative approaches for predicting these key compounds. Our novel PatentNetML framework integrated network science and machine learning algorithms, combining network measures, ADMET properties, and physicochemical properties, to construct robust classification models to identify key compounds. Through a model interpretation and an analysis of three compelling case studies, we showcase the potential of PatentNetML in unveiling hidden patterns and connections within diverse patents. While our framework is pioneering, we acknowledge its limitations when applied to patents that deviate from the assumed central pattern. This work serves as a promising foundation for future research endeavors aimed at efficiently identifying promising drug candidates and expediting drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry.

RESUMO

RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to non-invasively predict epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation status in patients with lung adenocarcinoma using multi-phase computed tomography (CT) radiomics features. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 424 patients with lung adenocarcinoma were recruited from two hospitals who underwent preoperative non-enhanced CT (NE-CT) and enhanced CT (including arterial phase CT [AP-CT], and venous phase CT [VP-CT]). Patients were divided into training (n = 297) and external validation (n = 127) cohorts according to hospital. Radiomics features were extracted from the NE-CT, AP-CT, and VP-CT images, respectively. The Wilcoxon test, correlation analysis, and simulated annealing were used for feature screening. A clinical model and eight radiomics models were established. Furthermore, a clinical-radiomics model was constructed by incorporating multi-phase CT features and clinical risk factors. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to evaluate the predictive performance of the models. RESULTS: The predictive performance of multi-phase CT radiomics model (AUC of 0.925 [95% CI, 0.879-0.971] in the validation cohort) was higher than that of NE-CT, AP-CT, VP-CT, and clinical models (AUCs of 0.860 [95% CI,0.794-0.927], 0.792 [95% CI, 0.713-0.871], 0.753 [95% CI, 0.669-0.838], and 0.706 [95% CI, 0.620-0.791] in the validation cohort, respectively) (all P < 0.05). The predictive performance of the clinical-radiomics model (AUC of 0.927 [95% CI, 0.882-0.971] in the validation cohort) was comparable to that of multi-phase CT radiomics model (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Our multi-phase CT radiomics model showed good performance in identifying the EGFR mutation status in patients with lung adenocarcinoma, which may assist personalized treatment decisions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore the influence of alveolar bone morphologic variables on the outcome of guided bone regeneration (GBR) in the anterior maxilla region. METHODS: Twenty-eight patients who received single maxillary anterior tooth delayed implant placed simultaneously with GBR were recruited. Baseline data including age, gender, implant site, implant brand, and bone graft materials were recorded. The resorption rate of the grafted bone (RRGB), labial bone width at 0 mm, 2 mm, and 4 mm apical to the implant platform at Tn (LBW0Tn, LBW2Tn, LBW4Tn), implant angulation (IA), maximum bone graft thickness (MBGT), bone graft volume (BGV), and the initial bone morphologic variables bone concavity depth (BCD) and bone concavity angulation (BCA) were measured. The Pearson correlation analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and optimal binning method were used to explore the potential predictors for GBR. RESULTS: Among 28 patients, the labial bone width of implant and bone graft volume decreased significantly when measured 6 months after surgery. The mean percentage of RRGB was 49.78%. RRGB was not correlated with gender, age, bone graft material, IA, MBGT, bone graft volume at T1, implant site, and implant brand (P > .05). BCD and BCA were each moderately correlated with RRGB (r = -0.872 [P < .001] and r = 0.686 [P < .001], respectively). A BCD ≥1.03 mm and a BCA <155.30° resulted in a significantly lower percentage of RRGB (P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: A significant grafted bone materials volume reduction was detected after GBR with collagen membrane and deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM). The initial bone morphology can influence GBR outcome, and a bone concavity with a depth ≥1.03 mm and an angulation <155.30° led to a lower RRGB. BCD and BCA can be used as variables to predict the outcome of GBR.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Early detection of coronary atherosclerotic diseases (CAD) without regional wall motion abnormality (RWMA) is important for improving the outcome of cardiovascular events. Global myocardial work (GMW), including global myocardial work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), global wasted work (GWW), and global myocardial work efficiency (GWE), offer comprehensive quantitative assessment of myocardial function in CAD. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that GMW could provide incremental value in detecting CAD without RWMA. METHODS: One hundred and twenty-four patients referred for coronary angiography (CAG) without resting RWMA were enrolled in this study. Global longitudinal strain (GLS), GWI, GCW, GWW, GWE were quantified. The severity of coronary lesions was evaluated by Gensini score (GS) based on CAG. We further divided CAG-confirmed CAD patients into three subgroups according to the tertiles of GS: low 0 < GS ≤ 17, mid 17 < GS ≤ 38, and high GS > 38. RESULTS: Compared with control, CAD patients showed decreased GLS, GWE, GWI, GCW but an increased GWW. Compared to low-GS group, GWW was increased in the mid-GS group. GLS, GWE, GWI and GCW were decreased in the high-GS group while GWW was increased. Receiver operator characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that GWE was the most powerful predictor of high-GS and was superior to GLS. GWE under 92.0% had the optimal sensitivity and specificity for identifying high-GS. CONCLUSION: The proposed GWE, which outperformed the conventional GLS, could be considered as a potential predictive indicator to help to detect severe coronary disease in non-RWMA CAD patients.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Autistic traits (ATs) are frequently reported in children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). This study aimed to examine ATs in children with ADHD from both behavioral and neuroimaging perspectives. METHODS: We used the Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) to assess and define subjects with and without ATs. For behavioral analyses, 67 children with ADHD and ATs (ADHD + ATs), 105 children with ADHD but without ATs (ADHD - ATs), and 44 typically developing healthy controls without ATs (HC - ATs) were recruited. We collected resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data and analyzed the mean amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (mALFF) values (an approach used to depict different spontaneous brain activities) in a sub-sample. The imaging features that were shared between ATs and ADHD symptoms or that were unique to one or the other set of symptoms were illustrated as a way to explore the "brain-behavior" relationship. RESULTS: Compared to ADHD-ATs, the ADHD + ATs group showed more global impairment in all aspects of autistic symptoms and higher hyperactivity/impulsivity (HI). Partial-correlation analysis indicated that HI was significantly positively correlated with all aspects of ATs in ADHD. Imaging analyses indicated that mALFF values in the left middle occipital gyrus (MOG), left parietal lobe (PL)/precuneus, and left middle temporal gyrus (MTG) might be specifically related to ADHD, while those in the right MTG might be more closely associated with ATs. Furthermore, altered mALFF in the right PL/precuneus correlated with both ADHD and ATs, albeit in diverse directions. CONCLUSIONS: The co-occurrence of ATs in children with ADHD manifested as different behavioral characteristics and specific brain functional alterations. Assessing ATs in children with ADHD could help us understand the heterogeneity of ADHD, further explore its pathogenesis, and promote clinical interventions.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Microvascular invasion (MVI) is an important predictor of poor prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Accurate preoperative prediction of MVI in HCC would provide useful information to guide the choice of therapeutic strategy. Shear wave elastography (SWE) plays an important role in hepatic imaging, but its value in the preoperative prediction of MVI in HCC has not yet been proven. AIM: To explore the value of conventional ultrasound features and SWE in the preoperative prediction of MVI in HCC. METHODS: Patients with a postoperative pathological diagnosis of HCC and a definite diagnosis of MVI were enrolled in this study. Conventional ultrasound features and SWE features such as maximal elasticity (Emax) of HCCs and Emax of the periphery of HCCs were acquired before surgery. These features were compared between MVI-positive HCCs and MVI-negative HCCs and between mild MVI HCCs and severe MVI HCCs. RESULTS: This study included 86 MVI-negative HCCs and 102 MVI-positive HCCs, including 54 with mild MVI and 48 with severe MVI. Maximal tumor diameters, surrounding liver tissue, color Doppler flow, Emax of HCCs, and Emax of the periphery of HCCs were significantly different between MVI-positive HCCs and MVI-negative HCCs. In addition, Emax of the periphery of HCCs was significantly different between mild MVI HCCs and severe MVI HCCs. Higher Emax of the periphery of HCCs and larger maximal diameters were independent risk factors for MVI, with odds ratios of 2.820 and 1.021, respectively. CONCLUSION: HCC size and stiffness of the periphery of HCC are useful ultrasound criteria for predicting positive MVI. Preoperative ultrasound and SWE can provide useful information for the prediction of MVI in HCCs.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Anqing six-end-white pig is a native breed in Anhui Province. The pigs have the disadvantages of a slow growth rate, low proportion of lean meat, and thick back fat, but feature the advantages of strong stress resistance and excellent meat quality. Duroc pig is an introduced pig breed with a fast growth rate and high proportion of lean meat. With the latter breed featuring superior growth characteristics but inferior meat quality traits, the underlying molecular mechanism that causes these phenotypic differences between Chinese and foreign pigs is still unclear. RESULTS: In this study, copy number variation (CNV) detection was performed using the re-sequencing data of Anqing Six-end-white pigs and Duroc pigs, A total of 65,701 CNVs were obtained. After merging the CNVs with overlapping genomic positions, 881 CNV regions (CNVRs) were obtained. Based on the obtained CNVR information combined with their positions on the 18 chromosomes, a whole-genome map of the pig CNVs was drawn. GO analysis of the genes in the CNVRs showed that they were primarily involved in the cellular processes of proliferation, differentiation, and adhesion, and primarily involved in the biological processes of fat metabolism, reproductive traits, and immune processes. CONCLUSION: The difference analysis of the CNVs between the Chinese and foreign pig breeds showed that the CNV of the Anqing six-end-white pig genome was higher than that of the introduced pig breed Duroc. Six genes related to fat metabolism, reproductive performance, and stress resistance were found in genome-wide CNVRs (DPF3, LEPR, MAP2K6, PPARA, TRAF6, NLRP4).

RESUMO

An atmospheric pressure glow discharge ionisation source was constructed and utilized to study the dopamine (DA) oxidation process coupling with mass spectrometry. During the DA oxidation process catalysed by polyphenol oxidase (PPO), six cationic intermediates were directly detected by the atmospheric pressure glow discharge mass spectrometry (APGD-MS). Combined with tandem mass spectrometry, the structures of the dopamine o-semiquinone radical (DASQ) and leukodopaminochrome radical (LDAC●) intermediates and structures of the isomers of dopaminochrome (DAC) and 5,6-dihydroxyindole (DHI) were further characterised with the introduction of 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine 1-oxyl (TEMPO) and deuterium oxide (D2O) to APGD-MS. Meanwhile, UV-Vis studies confirmed the important role of PPO in catalyzing the DA oxidation reaction. Based on APGD-MS studies, a possible mechanism could be proposed for DA oxidation catalysed by PPO. Furthermore, APGD-MS could provide possibilities for the effective detection and characterisation of short-lived intermediates, even in complicated systems.

RESUMO

Photocatalytic water splitting has recently received increasing attention as a green fuel source. The controlled nano-geometry of the photocatalytic material can improve light harvesting. In this study, as a proof of concept, hollow hemisphere (HHS)-based films of TiO2 material were created by a conventional electrospray method and subsequently applied for photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. To preserve the morphology of the HHS structure, a hydrolysis precipitation phase separation method (HPPS) was developed. As a result, the TiO2 HHS-based thin films presented a maximum PEC water splitting efficiency of ca. 0.31%, almost two times that of the photoanode formed by TiO2 nanoparticle-based films (P25). The unique morphology and porous structure of the TiO2 HHSs with reduced charge recombination and improved light absorption are responsible for the enhanced PEC performance. Light scattering by the HHS was demonstrated with total reflection internal fluorescence microscopy (TRIFM), revealing the unique light trapping phenomenon within the HHS cavity. This work paves the way for the rational design of nanostructures for photocatalysis in fields including energy, environment, and organosynthesis.
