RESUMO

The Body Project (BP) intervention for body image issues is supported by extensive efficacy and effectiveness research, most of which has been conducted in the United States. The BP uses cognitive dissonance to help participants critique the ideal appearance through written, verbal, and behavioral exercises. This reduces the internalization of the appearance ideal, which in turn decreases body dissatisfaction symptoms and, in some individuals, the onset of eating disorders. To broadly implement this program in Mexico and Latin America, Comenzar de Nuevo (CdN), a non-profit organization for eating disorder treatment, partnered with the Body Project Collaborative in 2014. Together, they created a training and implementation infrastructure. This paper explores the adaptation of BP and its implementation in Mexico and Latin America. We used sustainable business, marketing, and educational models to fulfill CdN's mission to reduce eating disorder risk factors, including weight stigma, in the Latin American region. By integrating strategies to combat weight stigma within our program delivery, we strive to contribute to a more inclusive and supportive environment. We trained master trainers, regular trainers, and/or group facilitators from Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Spain; and implemented the BP in 15 public schools supported by sponsorship programs. This paper provides crucial lessons learned, future directions, and implications for dissemination and implementation efforts in this region of the world.

BACKGROUND: The administration of colostrum through its absorption at the oropharyngeal level stimulates the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue, providing a local immunological protection barrier. The study aimed to investigate the association of oropharyngeal colostrum administration with the reduction of inflammatory indices. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was an observational, ambispective, analytical study of newborns < 32 weeks of gestation at risk of sepsis. Oropharyngeal colostrum was administered at 0.2 mL every 4 h for 5 days. Inflammatory indices were analyzed. Statistical analysis included frequencies, percentages, mean and Standard deviation, contingency coefficient, and Kolmogorov-Smirnov test for the distribution curve of the numerical data. RESULTS: There were 50 patients, 33 (66%) female and 17 (34%) male, with a median gestational age of 30-31 weeks (95% confidence interval [CI]). Nineteen patients had sepsis. A lower positivity rate in C-reactive protein was found, with a median of 0.5-0.6 (95% CI) at 5 days of colostrum administration versus 0.5-1.1 (95% CI) as the initial C-reactive protein. Analysis with χ2 yielded a p = 0.13, and the contingency coefficient showed a p = 0.196, indicating an association. CONCLUSION: Oropharyngeal colostrum administration was associated with a lower C-reactive protein positivity rate and clinical improvement in premature newborns at risk of sepsis.


INTRODUCCIÓN: La administración del calostro a través de su absorción a nivel orofaríngeo estimula el tejido linfoide asociado a mucosas, proporcionando una barrera de protección local e inmunológica. Conocer la asociación de la administración de calostro orofaríngeo con la disminución de los índices inflamatorios. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Observacional, ambispectivo, analítico, recién nacidos < 32 semanas de gestación con riesgo de sepsis, se administró calostro orofaríngeo 0.2 ml cada 4 horas durante 5 días. se analizó índices inflamatorios, evolución clínica. Análisis estadístico: frecuencias, porcentajes, media y DS, coeficiente de contingencia y prueba de Kolmogorov Smirnov para la curva de distribución de los datos numéricos. RESULTADOS: Fueron 50 pacientes, 33 (66%) femenino, 17 (34%) masculino, edad gestacional mediana 30-31 semanas (IC 95%), 19 pacientes cursaron con sepsis encontrando menor índice de positividad en la PCR, mediana de 0.5-0.6 (IC 95%) a los 5 días de administración de calostro vs 0.5-1.1 (IC 95%) como PCR inicial, analizando con Chi cuadrada con valor p = 0.13, mediante coeficiente de contingencia con p = 0.196, traduciendo asociación. CONCLUSIÓN: La calostroterapia se asoció con menor índice de positividad en la PCR; clínicamente hacia la mejoría, en recién nacidos prematuros con riesgo de sepsis.

The transient hypoxic-ischemic attack, also known as a minor stroke, can result in long-term neurological issues such as memory loss, depression, and anxiety due to an increase in nitrosative stress. The individual or combined administration of chronic prophylactic zinc and therapeutic selenium is known to reduce nitrosative stress in the first seven days post-reperfusion and, due to an antioxidant effect, prevent cell death. Besides, zinc or selenium, individually administered, also causes antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. Therefore, this work evaluated whether combining zinc and selenium could prevent stroke-elicited cognition and behavior deficits after 30 days post-reperfusion. Accordingly, we assessed the expression of growth factors at 7 days post-reperfusion, a four-time course of memory (from 7 to 28 days post-learning test), and cell proliferation, depression, and anxiety-like behavior at 30 days post-reperfusion. Male Wistar rats with a weight between 190 and 240 g) were treated with chronic prophylactic zinc administration with a concentration of 0.2 mg/kg for 15 days before common carotid artery occlusion (10 min) and then with therapeutic selenium (6 µg/kg) for 7 days post-reperfusion. Compared with individual administrations, the administration combined of prophylactic zinc and therapeutic selenium decreased astrogliosis, increased growth factor expression, and improved cell proliferation and survival in two regions, the hippocampus, and cerebral cortex. These effects prevented memory loss, depression, and anxiety-like behaviors. In conclusion, these results demonstrate that the prophylactic zinc administration combined with therapeutic selenium can reduce the long-term sequelae caused by the transient ischemic attack. Significance statement. A minor stroke caused by a transient ischemic attack can result in psychomotor sequelae that affect not only the living conditions of patients and their families but also the economy. The incidence of these micro-events among young people has increased in the world. Nonetheless, there is no deep understanding of how this population group responds to regular treatments (Ekker and et al., 2018) [1]. On the basis that zinc and selenium have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative properties in stroke animal models, our work explored whether the chronic combined administration of prophylactic zinc and therapeutic selenium could prevent neurological sequelae in the long term in a stroke rat model of unilateral common carotid artery occlusion (CCAO) by 10-min. Our results showed that this combined treatment provided a long-term neuroprotective effect by decreasing astrogliosis, memory loss, anxiety, and depression-like behavior.

Food gels are viscoelastic substances used in various gelled products manufactured around the world. Polysaccharides are the most common food gelling agents. The aim of this work was the production and characterization of a gel produced in a blue corn flour fermentation process, where different proportions were used of blue corn (Zea mays L.) flour and Czapek Dox culture medium (90 mL of culture medium with 10 g of blue corn flour, 80 mL of culture medium with 20 g of blue corn flour, and 70 mL of culture medium with 30 g of blue corn flour) and were fermented for three different durations (20, 25, and 30 days) with the Colletotrichum gloeosporioides fungus. A characterization of the gel was carried out studying the rheological properties, proximal analysis, toxicological analysis, microscopic structure, and molecular characterization, in addition to a solubility test with three different organic solvents (ethanol, hexane, and ethyl acetate, in addition to water). The results obtained showed in the rheological analysis that the gel could have resistance to high temperatures and a reversible behavior. The gel is soluble in polar solvents (ethanol and water). The main chemical components of the gel are carbohydrates, especially polysaccharides, and it was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy that the gel may be composed of pectin.

Despite the significant burden, cost, and worse prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), little is known about the molecular causes of these symptoms. Using antemortem assessments of BPSD in AD, we demonstrate that individual BPSD can be grouped into 4 domain factors in our cohort: affective, apathy, agitation, and psychosis. Then, we performed a transcriptome-wide analysis for each domain utilizing bulk RNA-seq of post-mortem anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) tissues. Though all 4 domains are associated with a predominantly downregulated pattern of hundreds of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), most DEGs are unique to each domain, with only 22 DEGs being common to all BPSD domains, including TIMP1. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) yielded multiple transcriptional modules that were shared between BPSD domains or unique to each domain, and NetDecoder was used to analyze context-dependent information flow through the biological network. For the agitation domain, we found that all DEGs and a highly associated transcriptional module were functionally enriched for ECM-related genes including TIMP1, TAGLN, and FLNA. Another unique transcriptional module also associated with the agitation domain was enriched with genes involved in post-synaptic signaling, including DRD1, PDE1B, CAMK4, and GABRA4. By comparing context-dependent changes in DEGs between cases and control networks, ESR1 and PARK2 were implicated as two high-impact genes associated with agitation that mediated significant information flow through the biological network. Overall, our work establishes unique targets for future study of the biological mechanisms of BPSD and resultant drug development.

Introduction: Introduction: changes in cognitive performance and memory of older adults (OA) can interfere in their reporting their diet. Objective: to evaluate the impact of memory bias in dietary estimation between OA and their primary caregivers (PC) through the food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) for Mexican OA and weighed food records (WFR). Methods: the present analysis uses the estimated dietary information based on the response provided by 51 older adults (OA) and their primary caregivers (PC) from the validation study of the FFQ for Mexicans OA was conducted during lockdowns for COVID-19. The personnel who applied FFQ and WFR were trained with standardized instruments and procedures. The Wilcoxon test was used to compare the intake per day of the foods and food groups, the Spearman correlation coefficient was used to evaluate the grams of intake per day of the food groups, and kappa coefficient was used to compare the level of food items and food groups between OA and PC. Results: in 11 of 14 food groups, no significant differences were observed between the amounts of intake reported by OA and PC. In the groups of dairy products, fruits, vegetables, and legumes, moderate agreement was observed (κ = 0.63 to 0.79), and in the rest of the groups was strong to perfect (κ ≥ 0.80). Correlation of the amount of intake between OA and PC was high in all food groups (r ≥ 0.87). Conclusion: the high correlation and high agreement between the amounts and frequencies of the food groups consumed as reported by the older adults and primary caregivers indicate that the information from both respondents is reliable.


Introducción: Introducción: los cambios cognitivos y la memoria que presentan los adultos mayores (AM) pueden interferir al momento de reportar los alimentos de su dieta. Objetivo: evaluar el impacto del sesgo de memoria en la estimación de la dieta entre AM y sus cuidadores principales (CP) a través del cuestionario de frecuencia de alimentos (CFA) para AM mexicanos y el registro de peso de alimentos (RPA). Métodos: el presente análisis utiliza la información dietética estimada con base en la respuesta proporcionada por 51 adultos mayores (AM) y sus cuidadores principales (CP) del estudio de validación del CFA para AM mexicanos que se realizó durante el confinamiento por COVID-19. El personal que aplicó CFA y RPA fue capacitado con instrumentos y procedimientos estandarizados. Se utilizó prueba de Wilcoxon para comparar la ingesta por día de los alimentos y grupos de alimentos, el coeficiente de correlación de Spearman para evaluar los gramos de ingesta por día de los grupos de alimentos y el coeficiente kappa para comparar el nivel de alimentos y grupos de alimentos entre AM y CP. Resultados: en 11 de 14 grupos de alimentos no se observaron diferencias significativas entre las cantidades de ingesta reportadas por AM y CP. En los grupos de lácteos, frutas, verduras y legumbres se observó concordancia moderada (κ = 0,63 a 0,79), y en el resto de los grupos fue de fuerte a perfecta (κ ≥ 0,80). La correlación de la cantidad de ingesta entre AM y CP fue alta en todos los grupos de alimentos (r ≥ 0,87). Conclusión: La alta correlación y la alta concordancia entre las cantidades y frecuencias de los grupos de alimentos consumidos según lo informado por los adultos mayores y los cuidadores principales indican que la información de ambos encuestados es confiable.

Epigenetics plays a vital role in aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD); however, whether epigenetic alterations during aging can initiate AD and exacerbate AD progression remains unclear. In this study, using 3-, 12- and 18- month-old APP/PS1 mice and age matched WT littermates, we conducted a series of memory tests, measured synapse-related gene expression, class 1 histone deacetylases (HDACs) abundance, and H3K9ac levels at target gene promoters in the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex (PFC). Our results showed impaired recognition and long-term spatial memory in 18-month-old WT mice and impaired recognition, short-term working, and long-term spatial reference memory in 12-and 18- month-old APP/PS1 mice. These memory impairments are associated with changes of synapse-related gene (nr2a, glur1, glur2, psd95) expression, HDAC abundance, and H3K9ac levels; more specifically, increased HDAC2 was associated with synapse-related gene expression changes through modulation of H3K9ac at the gene promoters during aging and AD progression in the hippocampus. Conversely, increased HDAC3 was associated with synapse-related gene expression changes through modulation of H3K9ac at the gene promoters during AD progression in the PFC. These findings suggest memory impairments in aging and AD may associated with a differential HDAC modulation of synapse-related gene expression in the brain.

Over the past decades, increasing environmental temperatures have been identified as one of the causes of major insect population declines and biodiversity loss. However, it is unclear how these rising temperatures affect endoheterothermic insects, like bumblebees, that have evolved thermoregulatory capacities to exploit cold and temperate habitats. To investigate this, we measured head, thoracic, and abdominal temperature of bumblebee (Bombus terrestris) workers across a range of temperatures (24 °C-32 °C) during three distinct behaviors. In resting bumblebees, the head, abdomen, and thorax conformed to the environmental temperature. In pre-flight bumblebees, the head and abdominal temperatures were elevated with respect to the environmental temperature, while the thoracic temperature was maintained, indicating a pre-flight muscle warming stage. In post-flight bumblebees, abdominal temperature increased at the same rate as environmental temperature, but the head and the thoracic temperature did not. By calculating the excess temperature ratio, we show that thermoregulation in bumblebees during flight is partially achieved by the active transfer of heat produced in the thorax to the abdomen, where it can more easily be dissipated. These results provide the first indication that the thermoregulatory abilities of bumblebees are plastic and behavior dependent. We also show that the flight speed and number of workers foraging increase with increasing temperature, suggesting that bees do not avoid flying at these temperatures despite its impact on behavioral performance.

Bismuth titanate (BTO) nanoparticles were obtained by pulsed laser ablation in liquid media (PLAL). Distilled water, ethanol, isopropanol, and acetone were used as media for laser ablation experiments, in which the colloidal solutions were obtained. Laser ablation was carried out using the second harmonic and fundamental wavelength of a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (532 nm and 1064 nm, respectively) with laser fluences of 25 and 12 mJ/cm2, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy was utilized for morphological characterization. BTO nanoparticles obtained have spherical shapes with orthorhombic structure and the average size distribution depended on the liquid media nature. In alcohols, BTO NPs were spherical with a carbon layer around them. X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis absorption spectra, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to confirm the structural, optical, and elemental properties of the ablated products. The presented results show that PLAL is a viable technique for the synthesis of high-quality BTO nanoparticles with enhanced optical properties for possible applications in photocatalysis.

RATIONALE: Extracellular proteolytic activity plays an important role in memory formation and the preservation of cognitive function. Previous studies have shown increased levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in the brain of mouse models of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and plasma of AD patients, associated with memory and cognitive decline; however, the exact function of PAI-1 in AD onset and progression is largely unclear. OBJECTIVE: In this study, we evaluated a novel PAI-1 inhibitor, TM5A15, on its ability to prevent or reverse memory deficits and decrease Aß levels and plaque deposition in APP/PS1 mice. METHODS: We administered TM5A15 mixed in a chow diet to 3-month and 9-month-old APP/PS1 mice before and after neuropathological changes were distinguishable. We then evaluated the effects of TM5A15 on memory function and neuropathology at 9 months and 18 months of age. RESULTS: In the younger mice, 6 months of TM5A15 treatment protected against recognition and short-term working memory impairment. TM5A15 also decreased oligomer levels and amyloid plaques, and increased mBDNF expression in APP/PS1 mice at 9 months of age. In aged mice, 9 months of TM5A15 treatment did not significantly improve memory function nor decrease amyloid plaques. However, TM5A15 treatment showed a trend in decreasing oligomer levels in APP/PS1 mice at 18 months of age. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that PAI-1 inhibition could improve memory function and reduce the accumulation of amyloid levels in APP/PS1 mice. Such effects are more prominent when TM5A15 is administered before advanced AD pathology and memory deficits occur.

BACKGROUND: The high prevalence of overweight and obesity in children from Latin America (LA) have been related to obesogenic food environments. Besides, the negative effects of the Covid-19 pandemic should also be considered. The objective of this research was to describe and compare the perceptions of parents, teachers, and experts in LA of food environments at home and school that favor healthy habits in schoolchildren in pre Covid-19 stage and during the pandemic. METHODS: This study used a survey self-reporting regarding conditions at home and the school favoring healthy habits, for three profiles: parents, primary school teachers, and experts. A fisher exact test was used to establish the difference between the response categories between countries and profiles. Logistic regression models were used to determine the probability of response in the levels of importance adjusted for sex and nationality. RESULTS: Information from 954 questionnaires was reported: 48.4% experts, 32.0% teachers, and 19.6% parents. There were differences in the perception of food environments at school between profiles (p<0.001). In multivariate logistic regression models, experts and teachers were 20% more likely to give greater importance to elements of the food environment at school compared to parents (p<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our findings showed that parents were less likely to perceive important elements of the school food environment compared to experts and teachers. Interventions are required to improve healthy eating environments that consider children's interpersonal mediators.

Most COVID-19 survivors report experiencing at least one persistent symptom after recovery, including sympathovagal imbalance. Relaxation techniques based on slow-paced breathing have proven to be beneficial for cardiovascular and respiratory dynamics in healthy subjects and patients with various diseases. Therefore, the present study aimed to explore the cardiorespiratory dynamics by linear and nonlinear analysis of photoplethysmographic and respiratory time series on COVID-19 survivors under a psychophysiological assessment that includes slow-paced breathing. We analyzed photoplethysmographic and respiratory signals of 49 COVID-19 survivors to assess breathing rate variability (BRV), pulse rate variability (PRV), and pulse-respiration quotient (PRQ) during a psychophysiological assessment. Additionally, a comorbidity-based analysis was conducted to evaluate group changes. Our results indicate that all BRV indices significantly differed when performing slow-paced breathing. Nonlinear parameters of PRV were more appropriate for identifying changes in breathing patterns than linear indices. Furthermore, the mean and standard deviation of PRQ exhibited a significant increase while sample and fuzzy entropies decreased during diaphragmatic breathing. Thus, our findings suggest that slow-paced breathing may improve the cardiorespiratory dynamics of COVID-19 survivors in the short term by enhancing cardiorespiratory coupling via increased vagal activity.

Resumen Antecedentes: Las malformaciones del tracto urinario representan el 15-20% de las anomalías por ecografía prenatal; la prevalencia oscila entre 3 y 6 por cada 1,000 nacimientos. Objetivo: Conocer el desenlace clínico de los recién nacidos diagnosticados prenatalmente con malformación del tracto urinario. Material y métodos: Observacional, analítico, ambispectivo. Recién nacidos con diagnóstico prenatal de malformación urinaria. Evaluación posnatal con pruebas diagnósticas, analizamos días de estancia hospitalaria, intervención quirúrgica y seguimiento. Resultados: 45 pacientes, 55% varones, 65% de término, 77% cesárea. El diagnóstico prenatal más frecuente fue hidronefrosis, 100% se realizó ultrasonido renal posnatal, 27% cistograma miccional, 42% gammagrama renal; 60% requirió estancia hospitalaria prolongada, 27% intervención quirúrgica, 60% seguimiento. 89% de los casos diagnosticados prenatalmente se corroboró algún tipo de malformación del tracto urinario, solo en el 75% de los casos fue el mismo diagnóstico. Conclusión: La evaluación posnatal siempre requiere la realización de un ultrasonido renal y no en todos los casos realización de cistograma miccional o gammagrama renal.


Abstract Background: Urinary tract malformations represent 15-20% of abnormalities in prenatal ultrasound; the prevalence oscillates between 3-6 per 1000 births. Objective: To know the clinical outcome of newborns diagnosed prenatally with some malformation of the urinary tract. Material and methods: Observational, analytical, ambispective. Newborns with prenatal diagnosis of malformation urinary. Postnatal evaluation diagnostic tests performed, we analyzed the days of hospital stay, surgical intervention, follow-up. Results: 45 children, 55% male, 65% term, 77% c-section. Prenatal diagnosis with higher frequency was hydronephrosis. In all cases postnatal renal ultrasound was performed, 27% voiding cystogram, 42% renal gammagram. A 60% of the cases required prolonged hospital stay, 27% required a surgical intervention, 60% were follow-up. 89% of the cases diagnosed prenatally corroborated some type of malformation of the urinary tract, only in 75% of the cases was the same diagnosis. Conclusion: Postnatal evaluation always requires the performance of a renal ultrasound and not in all cases the performance of voiding cystogram or renal gammagram.

BACKGROUND: Antipsychotic drugs prescribed to elderly patients with neuropsychiatric disorders often experience severe extrapyramidal side effects. Previous studies from our group suggest that changes in histone modifications during aging increase the risk for antipsychotic drug side effects, because co-administration of antipsychotics with class 1 histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors could mitigate the severity of motor side effects in aged mice. However, which HDAC subtype contributes to the age-related sensitivity to antipsychotic drug side effects is unknown. METHODS: In this study, we overexpressed histone deacetylase type 1(HDAC1) in the striatum of 3-month-old mice and knocked down HDAC 1 in the striatum of 21-month-old mice by microinjection of AAV9-HDAC1-GFP or AAV9-CRISPR/Cas9-HDAC1-GFP vectors. Four weeks after the viral-vector delivery, the typical antipsychotic drug haloperidol was administered daily for 14 days, followed by motor function assessments through the open field, rotarod, and catalepsy behavioral tests. RESULTS: Young mice with overexpressed HDAC1 showed increased cataleptic behavior induced by haloperidol administration, which is associated with the increased HDAC1 level in the striatum. In contrast, aged mice with HDAC1 knocked down rescued locomotor activity, motor coordination, and decreased cataleptic behavior induced by haloperidol administration, which is associated with decreased HDAC1 level in the striatum. CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that HDAC1 is a critical regulator in haloperidol-induced severe motor side effects in aged mice. Repression of HDAC1 expression in the striatum of aged mice could mitigate typical antipsychotic drug-induced motor side effects.

Most patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) develop neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) alongside cognitive decline, and apathy is one of the most common symptoms. Few preclinical studies have investigated the biological substrates underlying NPS in AD. In this study, we used a cross-sectional design to characterize apathy-like behaviors and assess memory in 5xFAD and wildtype control mice at 6, 12, and 16 months of age. Nest building, burrowing, and marble burying were used to test representative behaviors of apathy, and a composite score of apathy-like behavior was generated from these assays. Soluble Aß42 and plaques were quantified in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of the 5xFAD mice with the highest and lowest composite scores using ELISA and histology. Results suggest that 5xFAD mice develop significant apathy-like behaviors starting at 6 months of age that worsen with aging and are positively correlated with soluble Aß42 and plaques in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Our findings highlight the utility of studying NPS in mouse models of AD to uncover important relationships with underlying neuropathology.

Despite the significant burden, cost, and worse prognosis of Alzheimer's disease (AD) with behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD), little is known about the molecular causes of these symptoms. Using antemortem assessments of BPSD in AD, we demonstrate that individual BPSD can be grouped into 4 domain factors in our sample: affective, apathy, agitation, and psychosis. Then, we performed a transcriptome-wide analysis for each domain utilizing bulk RNA-seq of post-mortem anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) tissue. Though all 4 domains are associated with a predominantly downregulated pattern of hundreds of differentially expressed genes (DEGs), most DEGs are unique to each domain, with only 22 DEGs being common to all BPSD domains, including TIMP1. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) yielded multiple transcriptional modules that were shared between BPSD domains or unique to each domain, and NetDecoder was used to analyze context-dependent information flow through the biological network. For the agitation domain, we found that all DEGs and a highly correlated transcriptional module were functionally enriched for ECM-related genes including TIMP1, TAGLN, and FLNA. Another unique transcriptional module also associated with the agitation domain was enriched with genes involved in post-synaptic signaling, including DRD1, PDE1B, CAMK4, and GABRA4. By comparing context-dependent changes in DEGs between cases and control networks, ESR1 and PARK2 were implicated as two high impact genes associated with agitation that mediated significant information flow through the biological network. Overall, our work establishes unique targets for future study of the biological mechanisms of BPSD and resultant drug development.

Objective: To describe the national by federal entity prevalence of the nutritional status of weight and length at birth. Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional descrip­tive study. Data from 1 907 341 alive newborns in 2017, registered in the Subsistema de Información sobre Nacimientos (Sinac), were analyzed. The percentiles for weight and length were estimated in the INTERGROWTH-21st platform. Results: The prevalence of small gestational age (SGA) and insufficient length (IL) was 7.4 and 4.8%, respectively. Differ­ences in the prevalence of IL, SGA and large for the gestational age (LGA) by sex were recorded (p <0.01). The entities with the highest prevalence of SGA were Estado de México and Yucatán (10.4%); Sonora (15.3%) and Baja California Sur (16.8%) of LGA. Conclusion: Sizing the nutritional status at birth allows the identification of entities that require targeted actions to reduce the risks associated with malnutrition.

Exercise performance and zinc administration individually yield a protective effect on various neurodegenerative models, including ischemic brain injury. Therefore, this work was aimed at evaluating the combined effect of subacute prophylactic zinc administration and swimming exercise in a transient cerebral ischemia model. The prophylactic zinc administration (2.5 mg/kg of body weight) was provided every 24 h for four days before a 30 min common carotid artery occlusion (CCAO), and 24 h after reperfusion, the rats were subjected to swimming exercise in the Morris Water Maze (MWM). Learning was evaluated daily for five days, and memory on day 12 postreperfusion; anxiety or depression-like behavior was measured by the elevated plus maze and the motor activity by open-field test. Nitrites, lipid peroxidation, and the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) were assessed in the temporoparietal cortex and hippocampus. The three nitric oxide (NO) synthase isoforms, chemokines, and their receptor levels were measured by ELISA. Nissl staining evaluated hippocampus cytoarchitecture and Iba-1 immunohistochemistry activated the microglia. Swimming exercise alone could not prevent ischemic damage but, combined with prophylactic zinc administration, reversed the cognitive deficit, decreased NOS and chemokine levels, prevented tissue damage, and increased Iba-1 (+) cell number. These results suggest that the subacute prophylactic zinc administration combined with swimming exercise, but not the individual treatment, prevents the ischemic damage on day 12 postreperfusion in the transient ischemia model.
