RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the importance of psychologic factors in patients with oral lichen planus, and attempts were made to identify possible personality features characteristic of patients with oral lichen planus. STUDY DESIGN: The study involved 100 patients with oral lichen planus (group 1) and 50 control subjects (group 2). We applied the following psychometric tests to both groups: Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Cattell Personality Questionnaire 16PF, Hassanyeh Rating of Anxiety-Depression-Vulnerability, Beck Depression Inventory, Raskin Depression Screen, and Covi Anxiety Screen. RESULTS: The patients with oral lichen planus were found to exhibit greater anxiety, as reflected by statistically significant scores with the anxiety tests that were used (Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Cattell Personality Questionnaire 16PF, Hassanyeh Rating of Anxiety-Depression-Vulnerability, and Covi Anxiety Screen). The patients with oral lichen planus likewise exhibited greater depression than the controls in all 3 depression tests applied (Beck Depression Inventory, Hassanyeh Rating of Anxiety-Depression-Vulnerability, and Raskin Depression Screen) and were more vulnerable to psychic disorders on the basis of the PD subscales (vulnerability) of the Hassanyeh questionnaire. Three features (conformity to the group, astuteness, and rebelliousness) defined the personalities of our patients with oral lichen planus, according to the Cattell 16PF questionnaire. Finally, those patients with erosive lichen planus exhibited higher depression scores than patients with nonerosive lichen planus. CONCLUSIONS: Despite the higher anxiety scores observed in patients with oral lichen planus, it was not established that the observed psychologic alterations constitute a direct etiologic factor of oral lichen planus; nor was it established that such alterations are a consequence of oral lichen planus and its lesions.

RESUMO

Osgood's Semantic Differential Questionnaire was used to study 40 couples undergoing an artificial insemination by donor (AID) programme. The following reference concepts were used: Father, Mother, Work, Marriage, Myself, Children, Pregnancy, Guilt, Sex and Family. The results show that women consider ¿being a Mother' as something emotionally ¿warm', take a positive position, feel ¿nervous' and wish the event happened quickly; this is significantly different to men, who give less importance to this fact. Men are more concerned about the pregnancy and consider it a ¿hard', ¿strong' and ¿heavy' experience. The score in the concept Guilt significantly stands out from the rest of the concepts in both men and women; it is also striking how AID women relate the concept Mother with the concept Father, whereas men establish the association between Mother and Work.

RESUMO

The personality characteristics of 40 couples admitted into an artificial insemination scheme have been analysed. The personality study was carried out using Cattell's questionnaire 16 PF (form C) and EPI questionnaire (Eysenck Personality Inventory). The results show significant statistical differences between males and females with a greater conformity with the group, in women; women are also bolder and more disciplined from an emotional point of view, whereas men are more radical.

RESUMO

The authors establish the clinical and anthropological connections relative to the buccal patient. Although apparently the relationship between the psychiatrist and the patient is diametrically opposite to the relationship that a buccolic professional may have with a patient, however, the reflexion which is developed in the work shows, from a wholistic and anthropological perspective, that both professional activities are confluent when dealing with the conception of "sick patient". Two clinical cases illustrate the difficulties which, sometimes, appear in the relationship between the psychiatrist and the ondotologist.

RESUMO

The authors describe one case of Lycanthropy and revise the literature about this theme. They observe that Lycanthropy has received scant attention in the modern literature, but appears to have survived into modern times. In some cases the patient (as a Delusion) has the belief that he has been transformed into an animal. In other cases there appears only what seems to be behaviour of an animal. About the first group, the authors make a phenomenological analysis and present a clinical case of Lycanthropic delusion.
