RESUMO
Factor analysis was used to study the pattern of relationships of a number of hematological parameters in clinically healthy young subjects and in patients with moderate anemia. The level of total hemoglobin and the concentration of red blood cells were ascertained to control blood oxygen-transporting function in not full measure and these might be referred to as basic characteristics only conventionally. To clarify the picture, these criteria should be supplemented by the information on other parameters. It is concluded that the introduction of the ratio of a number of hemoglobin derivatives, blood oxygen regimen and acid-base balance can substantially increase the validity of clinical opinions as to this blood function.

Factor analysis was used to study an association of risk factors of atherosclerosis (AS) in student during their study. These factors were shown to be rather evident just at the age of 17-22 years. The correlation matrixes in male and female students are described by a mixed number of factors and the factors differ themselves in the internal structure, magnitude, and correlation signs. Young men were ascertained to be more susceptible to stresses and to have more abnormal lipid metabolism. The risk of AS is much higher just in young men. It is concluded that male sex is a major potential risk factor of this disease. Accordingly, rational hygienic and demographic strategy must be aimed primarily at maintaining the health status of men as the most susceptible social sector.

The time course of changes in the parameters of the corpuscular volume of red blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelets was studied during uncomplicated pregnancy. It was ascertained that in pregnancy, the mean volume of red and white blood cells and that of platelets remained steady-state. Adaptive changes were observed in the fine structure of blood cells of all types. Factor analysis demonstrated that evaluation of a system of parameter intercorrelations in the distribution of blood cells by their volume allows pregnancy phases to be clearly differentiated.

Factor analysis was used to study the relationships of the count of red blood cells, lymphocytes, neutrophils, and platelets in health and chronic renal failure (CHF). The concentrations of cells, their average volume, and the indices of its distribution volume parameters (standard deviation, asymmetry coefficient, and excess gradient) were determined. It has been shown that the values of these characteristics are closely coordinated and the factor structure of fixed correlations depends on the state of an organism, has gender specific features, and produces a clear morphofunctional portrait of each of the stages of the course of CHF. It is concluded that the data on the volume of blood cells may be used as auxiliary information in the differential diagnosis of CHF.

The factor analysis was used to examine a relationship of a number of clinical and blood biochemical parameters to the level of triiodothyronine (T3), tyroxine (T4), and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in third-fourth degree diffuse toxic goiter (DTG) in females aged 17-45 and 46-58 years. It was established that the changes in T4 and TSH values were coordinated and T3 values varied independently. In DTG, the concentration of T4 correlated with that of K' and the levels of TSH and T4 correlated with those of cholesterol only in the age group less than 45 years. The specific features of the leukogram were associated with the level of T4 in females aged under 45 years and with that of TSH in females over 45 years of age. In DTG, there was a drop in blood TSH concentrations only in the group of 46-59 years.

To study correlations between electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes and their volume, we compared blood samples from intact rats, animals exposed to extreme impacts, healthy humans and cancer patients. In rats, the above erythrocytes indices were closely related polynomially--deviations of the cell volume in both directions from physiological values are accompanied with a fall of mean cell mobility in electric field. In healthy subjects electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes and their volume vary independently, in cancer these parameters are related curvilinearly.

A significant curvilinear relationship was found between erythrocyte count in rat blood and electrokinetic characteristics of these cells. Electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes remained unchanged, slightly increased, or decreased with increasing cell count in the vascular bed depending on animal state. Excessive increase in the number of erythrocytes was accompanied by accumulation of cells with low electrophoretic mobility in the electric field.

Using the factor analysis, it was shown that the total content of hemoglobin in human blood plays a limited and indirect role in the regulation of average electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes. In this case, it is not the only parameter governing this level. The statistical relationship between the total content of hemoglobin and erythrocyte mobility in electrical field is not stable and is determined by the dependence of both indices on their common factor of control of erythroid homeostasis.

It was established, while making blood tests for healthy males and for patients with glomerular nephritis at exacerbation, that there is a statistically reliable interrelation between the erythrocyte electrophoretic mobility and their sedimentation velocity. Its nature is subject to modifications as the functional body state and the investigated range of concurrently altering parameters are changing. Such hierarchy, in neuropathy, can be also the case at the level of mean parameters; and in health, it can be observed only as a conjugated reconstruction of the erythrocyte population structure.

The interrelationship between electrophoretic mobility and the volume of rat blood erythrocyte is described by a non-linear curve, where the deviation of cell volume from the physiological normal is accompanied by a decrease in their mean electrophoretic mobility. In some ranges, the deviations of erythrocyte volume do not affect their electrokinetic properties. It can be hypothesized that the simultaneous shifts of these parameters are caused only by some hematological abnormalities that are manifested in pronounced changes in cell homeostasis.

The potentialities of optimizing the clinical use of electric surface properties of erythrocyte blood samples were investigated. The ordinarily used parameter of the eletrokinetic erythrocyte potential based on the mean value of electrophoretic mobility was shown to be inaccurate and low informative. Asymmetry factor and erythrogram excess (distribution parameters) are recommended for use to enhance the adequate evaluation of changes in the above parameter and to make it diagnostically more effective. Principles of interpretation of changes' results are described.

In intact rats electrokinetic characteristics of erythrocytes weakly depended on the intensity of erythropoiesis. This dependence became significant when the degree of erythropoiesis approached the upper limit of variations. Electrophoretic mobility of erythrocytes progressively decreased with increasing blood reticulocyte count. Subpopulations of erythrocytes with low mobility in electric field accumulated in the blood. Our results indicate that erythrocytes whose electrokinetic potential is similar to the mean mobility of circulating cells migrate from the bone marrow into the circulation under normal conditions.

Using the factor analysis, we studied the influence of psychoemotional strain, experienced by students under taking examinations, on the electrophoretic mobility of their erythrocytes. Under stress condition, redistribution of shares of cells with different mobility occurs, directed to the maintenance of the optimal value of the index average level in the total pool of erythrocytes of an individual. Under stress, five factors, taken in different combinations, participate in the control of erythrokinetic properties: those of restriction of cell accumulation with abnormal mobility, and of the population quantity heterogeneity control, in addition to factors of total functional condition, emotional tension, and individual psychological steadiness of students before examination. The expression and character of stress influence on the state of erythrocyte population depend on the intensity of the functional load of the organism.

The potentialities of increasing the resolving capacity of standard hematological parameters used for the diagnosis of chronic nonspecific ulcerative colitis were investigated. The mean volume of erythrocytes decreases and the shape of population erythrogram is modified in this disease. White blood is characterized by qualitative changes (mean cell volume and parameters of its distribution for neutrophils lymphocytes, and monocytes). Consideration for the corpuscular volume of these cells helps differentiate between slight, medium, and severe chronic nonspecific ulcerative colitis.

As assessed by changes in the erythrograms asymmetry coefficient, selectivity of the strophantin effect on cell populations with different mobility and age specifics of reciprocal responses, was revealed in adult subjects and in children. The data obtained suggest existence of difference in quality of functional condition of the erythrocytes with normal as well as reduced mobility in children and in adults.
