RESUMO
BACKGROUND: Intrinsic capacity (IC) is proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote healthy aging. Although some studies have examined the factors influencing IC, few studies have comprehensively confirmed lifestyle factors on IC, especially IC impairment patterns. The present study aimed to identify the patterns of IC impairment and explore the lifestyle and other factors associated with different patterns of IC impairment. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted in a Chinese geriatric hospital. IC was evaluated in five domains according to the recommendations of WHO: cognition, locomotion, vitality, sensory and psychological domains. The sociodemographic and health-related characteristics of participants were assessed. The health promoting lifestyle was evaluated using the Health-Promoting Lifestyle Profile-II scale, including nutrition, health responsibility, interpersonal relationships, physical activity, spiritual growth and stress management. We applied latent class analysis to identify IC impairment patterns and compared basic activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, frailty, quality of life and falls among different IC impairment patterns. Multinomial logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify factors influencing the IC impairment patterns. RESULTS: Among 237 participants included, the latent class analysis identified three patterns of IC impairment: 44.7% high IC (Class 1), 31.2% intermediate IC mainly locomotor impairment (Class 2) and 24.1% low IC mainly cognitive impairment (Class 3). Older adults in class 1 had the best function ability and quality of life, while class 3 had the highest levels of disability and frailty, the poorest quality of life and a higher prevalence of falls. Compared with class 1, older adults with advanced age (OR = 22.046, 95%CI:1.735-280.149), osteoporosis (OR = 3.377, 95%CI:1.161-9.825), and lower scores in physical activity (OR = 0.842, 95%CI:0.749-0.945), stress management (OR = 0.762, 95%CI:0.585-0.993) and social support (OR = 0.897, 95%CI:0.833-0.965) were more likely to belong to the class 2. Simultaneously, compared with class 1, older adults with advanced age (OR = 104.435, 95%CI:6.038-1806.410), stroke (OR = 3.877, 95%CI:1.172-12.823) and lower scores in physical activity (OR = 0.784, 95%CI:0.667-0.922) and social support (OR = 0.909, 95%CI:0.828-0.998) were more likely to be class 3. In addition, compared with class 2, older adults with a lower score in nutrition (OR = 0.764, 95%CI:0.615-0.950) were more likely to belong to the class 3. CONCLUSIONS: This study provides evidence that there are heterogeneous IC impairment patterns in older adults and identifies various associated factors in each pattern, including age, stroke, osteoporosis, social support and lifestyle behaviors such as nutrition, physical activity and stress management. It informs stakeholders on which modifiable factors should be targeted through public health policy or early intervention to promote IC and healthy aging in older adults.

This study focuses on addressing the limitations associated with most chemical derivatization methods commonly used for formaldehyde detection. These methods often suffer from prolonged derivative times (≥30 min) and complex procedures, which hinder their ability to meet the requirements of real-time and accurate sensing. In this research, a novel formaldehyde indicator system based on hyperbranched polyamine molecule was developed, and its mechanism and principles of color change were investigated. The findings revealed that hyperbranched polyamine molecule effectively reacts with formaldehyde, leading to a reduction in electron cloud density in the amine group N and subsequently causing a decrease in pH value. This reaction enables the visualization of formaldehyde detection through changes in the indicator spectrum. Moreover, the spectral variation pattern exhibits a strong linear correlation with the formaldehyde concentration when the PAMAM concentration is optimized. The detection limit of this method was determined to be 1.8 ppm. Notably, the reaction between PAMAM and formaldehyde is almost instantaneous, the color change is insensitive to temperature, and the method demonstrates high selectivity. Overall, this research contributes to the advancement of real-time formaldehyde monitoring technology and provides insights for future developments in this field.
RESUMO
Surgery is the first choice for the treatment of acute cholecystitis. To ensure the curative effect of surgery, laparoscopic anesthesia should be characterized by rapid induction, good analgesic effect, and rapid postoperative sobriety. With the aggravation of an aging population, acute cholecystitis combined with coronary heart disease is more common in the elderly. The selection of anesthesia protocols for these patients has become a hot topic in research. In this study, we selected 72 elderly patients with acute cholecystitis combined with coronary heart disease who were treated in our hospital from January 2019 to January 2022 to explore the effects of sevoflurane laryngeal mask inhalation combined with intravenous anesthesia on perioperative stress and myocardial injury in elderly patients with acute cholecystitis combined with coronary heart disease, in order to provide a scientific basis for the formulation of a surgical plan for elderly patients with acute cholecystitis combined with coronary heart disease.
RESUMO
In recent years, there has been significant interest in the study of spandex in high-elasticity sensors. As a new kind of special spandex, dyeable spandex shows strong adsorption capacity for anions. In this study, neutral red G was used as an anion adsorption simulator to study the adsorption mechanism of dyeable spandex on anionic materials. The structure of dyeable spandex was characterized by the modern instrumental analysis method, and the adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics of neutral red G on dyeable spandex were discussed. The results show that the use of mixed amines as chain extenders for dyeable spandex reduced the regularity of molecules and the crystallinity of spandex, which was beneficial to the diffusion adsorption of anions. On the other hand, the number of secondary amino groups increased, providing more adsorption sites under acidic conditions. The adsorption of neutral red G on dyeable spandex satisfied the quasi-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir adsorption model, indicating that dye adsorption on spandex was mainly electrostatic. The diffusion coefficient and equilibrium adsorption capacity of neutral red G on dyeable spandex increased significantly, whereas enthalpy and entropy decreased.
RESUMO
BACKGROUND: More and more HIV therapeutic vaccines will enter clinical trials; however, little is known about the willingness to participate (WTP) in HIV therapeutic vaccine trials among HIV-positive individuals. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the WTP in HIV therapeutic vaccine trials among Chinese HIV-infected patients. METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional survey on HIV-positive inpatients and outpatients at Shanghai Public Health Center. A total of 447 participants were recruited into this study. Following an introduction with general information on HIV therapeutic vaccine and its potential effectiveness and side effects, each participant completed a questionnaire in a self-administered form. The questionnaires covered demographics, high-risk behaviors, clinical characteristics and willingness to participate in HIV therapeutic vaccine trial. RESULTS: The overall willingness to participate in HIV therapeutic vaccine trials was 91.5%. Interestingly, multivariate logistic regression analyses demonstrated that the willingness was higher for those sexually infected by HIV (odds ratio [OR]: 4.36; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.53-12.41), diagnosed as HIV-1 infection for greater than 5 years (OR: 7.12, 95% CI: 1.83-27.76), and with the presence of infectious complications (OR: 2.75; 95% CI: 1.02-7.45). The primary reason for participation was to delay or reduce antiretroviral treatment (ART) and to avoid ART side effects (76.6%), and then followed by delaying disease progression (74.9%), increasing immune response to suppress opportunistic infections (57.7%) and preventing the development of drug resistance (37.1%). Reasons for unwillingness to participate mainly included concern for safety (37.0%), lack of knowledge on therapeutic vaccine (33.3%), and satisfaction with ART effectiveness (22.2%). CONCLUSIONS: The WTP in HIV therapeutic vaccine trials was high among HIV-infected Chinese patients. HIV+ subjects who acquired infection through sexual contact and who were diagnosed for more than 5 years may represent a good candidate population for enrollment in therapeutic vaccine trials.
