RESUMO
To investigate the associations of serum gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) levels with the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and its subtypes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Jiangsu Province. Methods: The participants were enrolled in the Comprehensive Research project regarding 'Prevention and Control of Diabetes' in Jiangsu Province. The baseline survey was conducted from 2013 to 2014, and follow-up until December 31, 2021. After excluding the participants who self-reported with chronic liver disease/stroke/coronary heart disease at baseline survey and those with incomplete information on GGT, a total of 16 147 T2DM patients were included in the final analysis. Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and their 95%CI of GGT for CVD, myocardial infarction, and stroke. Restricted cubic spline models were applied to analyze the dose-response relationship between GGT and the risk of CVD and its subtypes. Results: During the median follow-up time of 8.02 years, 2 860 CVD cases were registered, including 196 cases of myocardial infarction and 2 730 cases of stroke. Multivariate Cox proportional risk regression model indicated that compared to the lowest serum GGT level group, the highest GGT level group had a 24% increased risk of CVD (HR=1.24, 95%CI: 1.09-1.41) and a 23% increased risk of stroke (HR=1.23, 95%CI: 1.08-1.40). The restricted cubic spline model showed a nonlinear dose-response relationship between GGT and the risk of CVD, myocardial infarction, and stroke in T2DM patients. Conclusions: High levels of GGT may be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease in T2DM patients, which needs further exploration and validation in future clinical practice.

The demographic of women of advanced maternal age (AMA), defined as those over 35 years, is expanding in response to the liberalization of China's three-child policy. A significant proportion of these women are electing to undergo noninvasive prenatal testing (NIPT). Nonetheless, next-generation sequencing (NGS) is the recommended method for prenatal screening among women of AMA in the world. Consequently, the decision between opting for NIPT or NGS has emerged as topic of considerable debate and interest within the medical community. The objective was to explore which prenatal screening and diagnosis is suitable for women of AMA with different comorbidities. In this retrospective study, 326 pregnant women with AMA were divided into 9 groups to investigate clinically significant copy number variation (CNV) in different amniocentesis indications by amniocentesis and NGS. Clinically significant chromosomal abnormalities were identified in 84 cases (25.8%). Among the 119 detected segmental imbalances, 16 cases (13.4%) exhibited pathogenic or likely pathogenic microdeletions or micro-duplications. The incidence of pathogenic or likely pathogenic CNVs was significantly higher in the AMA with soft ultrasound markers group compared to the general AMA group (11.5% vs. 1.1%; P=0.016). Additionally, the incidence of pathogenic or likely pathogenic CNVs was significantly higher in the AMA with NIPT group compared to the general AMA group (48.7% vs. 1.1%; P<0.001). The incorporation of soft ultrasound markers and NIPT significantly enhanced the detection rate of clinically significant CNVs in women of AMA by 10.4% and 47.6%, respectively. Furthermore, the detection rate of clinically significant CNVs increased by 37% in women of AMA who underwent NIPT, when soft ultrasound markers were present. The positive predictive value of NIPT in detecting sex chromosome aneuploidy notably improved from 57.9% to 80% with the inclusion of soft ultrasound markers. Therefore, the combination of NIPT and soft ultrasound markers in women of AMA should be strongly considered and recommended for prenatal diagnosis.

Objective: To study and analyze the epidemiological regularity of acute poisoning in Tianjin-Hebei region from 2020 to 2022, and to provide reference for the treatment and prevention of related patients. Methods: In December 2023, the analysis results and clinical data of 4695 patients with drug poisoning from January 2020 to December 2022 in multiple centers of Tianjin-Hebei region were collected as research objects. Gender, age, type of drug poisoning, season and poisoning route of the research objects were analyzed, and statistical analysis was conducted as well. Results: The sex ratio of men and women was 1â¶1.16 (2173/2522). The poisoning of antidepressants and benzodiazepines were the most common drug poisonings, accounting for 1550 and 1274 cases respectively (33%, 27.1%). Paraquat poisoning has decreased year by year, while the poisonings of herbicides with low toxicity such as diquat, glyphosate and cremart have increased. The number of cases reached a peak during May to August which was the poisoning season, while was relatively fewer during October to December. Conclusion: Effective intervention measures should be taken according to the age of high incidence of poisoning, different seasons and populations. Essential drug poisoning prevention measures should be established and improved. The systems of sedative drug management and use should be established, and pesticide management and storage need to be strengthened.

The gas diffusion layer (GDL), as the bridge to reactants and electrons in PEMFC, is a carbon-based porous component and would be deformed under compression to induce changes in the distributions of reactants and the corresponding performances of PEMFC; therefore, unmasking the impacts of assembly pressure on the distribution of the reactants in GDL is significant to improve the performance of PEMFC. In the present article, the structural response of GDL to assembly pressure was first studied; the variations in transport properties of GDL and the reactant distributions induced by assembly pressure were then discussed; the impacts on the dynamic performances of PEMFC were finally investigated. From the results, assembly pressure was found to have different effects on the regions of GDL under the rib and channel, significant gaps in GDL porosity and/or GDL permeability existed near the rib/channel transition region to worsen the inhomogeneity of reactants. Suffering assembly pressure, the distribution of current density became uneven, and the current density near the rib-channel border seriously rose to the aggravated risk of MEA thermal damage. Furthermore, the power density at specific efficiencies was raised under certain assembly pressures, which meant suitable assembly pressure(s) existed for better output performances of PEMFC.
RESUMO
Tooth loss and osteonecrosis of the jaw are a serious and rare oral complications of herpes zoster infection, particularly in immunocompetent individuals. An immunocompetent 58-year-old male patient presented with a sudden exfoliation of almost all the teeth in his right mandible 2 days prior. Three weeks before this event, he had been diagnosed with herpes zoster infection, which led to irreversible necrosis on the right side of his mandible over 3 months. He was subsequently diagnosed with the osteonecrosis of the right mandible following herpes zoster infection and received aggressive treatment including medication, laser therapy and surgery. We present here our insights into the risk factors, differential diagnosis, pathogenesis and treatment options for this rare complication based on our case and latest literature review.
RESUMO
Objective: To construct a prediction model for the clinical supply of blood components in Xi'an City from 2023 to 2025. Methods: Based on the blood supply data of the Blood Management Information System of Shaanxi Provincial Blood Center from January 2013 to December 2022, a gray prediction model and an exponential curve fitting model were used to construct the prediction model, and the optimal prediction model was determined according to the error parameters of the relevant indicators of the model. The supply of blood components in Xi'an from 2023 to 2025 was predicted. Results: The fitting equations of the exponential curve fitting model to predict the supply of suspended red blood cells, platelets and cryoprecipitate in Xi'an were, xï¼1ï¼ï¼t+1ï¼=1.16e0.04tï¼xï¼1ï¼ï¼t+1ï¼=1.04e0.12t and xï¼1ï¼ï¼t+1ï¼=1.01e1.10t, respectively. The mean absolute errors (mean relative errors) of the exponential curve fitting model in predicting the supply of suspended red blood cells, platelets and cryoprecipitate in Xi'an were 10 488.7 (0.05%), 2 114.9 (0.08%) and 3 089.6 (0.07%), respectively, which were lower than those of the gray prediction model, about 10 488.7 (3.44%), 2 152.78 (8.20%) and 3 441.35 (7.92%), respectively. The exponential curve fitting model predicted that the clinical supply of blood components in Xi'an would increase year by year from 2023 to 2025, and the clinical supply of suspended red blood cells, platelets, and cryoprecipitate in Xi'an would increase to 409 467 U, 69 818 therapeutic volume and 94 724 U, respectively by 2025. Conclusion: The exponential curve fitting model can make a good prediction of the clinical supply of blood components in Xi'an City.

BACKGROUND: Neoadjuvant short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) followed by CAPOX and camrelizumab (a programmed cell death protein 1 monoclonal antibody) has shown potential clinical activity for locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) in a phase II trial. This study aimed to further confirm the efficacy and safety of SCRT followed by CAPOX and camrelizumab compared to long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT) followed by CAPOX alone as neoadjuvant treatment for LARC. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this randomized, phase III trial, patients with T3-4/N+ rectal adenocarcinoma were randomly assigned (1 : 1) to receive SCRT or long-course chemoradiotherapy (LCRT), followed by two cycles of camrelizumab and CAPOX or CAPOX alone, respectively. After surgery, each arm underwent either six cycles of camrelizumab and CAPOX, followed by up to 17 doses of camrelizumab, or six cycles of CAPOX. The primary endpoint was pathological complete response (pCR) rate (ypT0N0) assessed by a blinded independent review committee. Key secondary endpoints tested hierarchically were 3-year event-free survival (EFS) rate and overall survival (OS). RESULTS: Between July 2021 and March 2023, the intention-to-treat population comprised 113 patients in the experimental arm and 118 patients in the control arm, with surgery carried out in 92% and 83.9%, respectively. At data cut-off (11 July 2023), the pCR rates were 39.8% [95% confidence interval (CI) 30.7% to 49.5%] in the experimental arm compared to 15.3% (95% CI 9.3% to 23.0%) in the control arm (difference, 24.6%; odds ratio, 3.7; 95% CI 2.0-6.9; P < 0.001). In each arm, surgical complication rates were 40.0% and 40.8%, and grade ≥3 treatment-related adverse events were 29.2% and 27.2%. Three-year EFS rate and OS continue to mature. CONCLUSIONS: In LARC patients, neoadjuvant SCRT followed by camrelizumab plus CAPOX demonstrated a significantly higher pCR rate than LCRT followed by CAPOX, with a well-tolerated safety profile. SCRT followed by camrelizumab and chemotherapy can be recommended as a neoadjuvant treatment modality for these patients.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the molecular mechanism through which calenduloside E inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cell proliferation and migration. METHODS: HCC cell lines HepG2 and Huh7 treated with calenduloside E were examined for changes in cell viability using CCK-8 assay and expressions of GPX4, SLC7A11, LC3, P62 and phosphorylation of Akt/mTOR using Western blotting. The effects LY294002 and Rapamycin (the inhibitor and activator of autophagy, respectively) on proliferation and migration of calenduloside E-treated HCC cells were evaluated using EdU and Transwell assays. The TCGA database was used to explore the expression levels of GPX4 and SLC7A11 in HCC and normal liver tissues and their correlation with the patients'survival outcomes. GPX4 and SLC7A11 expressions were also detected in HCC cells and normal hepatocytes using RT-qPCR and Western blotting. RESULTS: Calenduloside E obviously inhibited the viability of HCC cells. GPX4 and SLC7A11 were highly expressed in HCC tissues and cell lines, and their expression levels were negatively correlated with the patients'survival. In HCC cell lines, calenduloside E significantly inhibited the expressions of GPX4 and SLC7A11 proteins, activated the Akt-mTOR pathway, and enhanced the expression of LC3 â ¡. The inhibitory effect of calenduloside E on GPX4 and SLC7A11 expressions was significantly enhanced by rapamycin but attenuated by LY294002. Inhibiting the autophagy pathway obviously diminished the inhibitory effect of calenduloside E on proliferation and migration of HCC cells, while activating this pathway produced the opposite effect. CONCLUSION: Calenduside E inhibits the proliferation and migration of HCC cells by down-regulating GPX4 and SLC7A11 expression via the autophagy pathway.

OBJECTIVE: To perform a bibliometric analysis of researches on the Plasmodium falciparum repetitive interspersed families of polypeptides (RIFIN) protein from 1993 to 2022 and identify the hot topics in the RIFIN protein research, so as to provide insights into future researches on RIFIN protein. METHODS: RIFIN protein-associated publications were retrieved in the Web of Science Core Collection from 1993 to 2022 and all bibliometric analyses were performed using the software CiteSpace 6.2.4.0. The annual number of RIFIN protein-associated publications was analyzed from 1993 to 2022, and country, author and institution collaboration networks were created. Keywords were extracted from RIFIN protein-associated publications for plotting keyword co-occurrence, clustering, burst and timeline maps to identify the hot topics in the RIFIN protein research. RESULTS: A total of 745 English RIFIN protein-associated publications were included in the final bibliometric analysis, and there were 18 to 36 publications each year from 1993 to 2022. The top three countries with the highest activity in the RIFIN protein research included the United States, the United Kingdom and France, universities and research institutes were highly active in the RIFIN protein research; however, no authors were identified with a high activity in the RIFIN protein research. There were three keyword clusters in the RIFIN protein-associated publications, including repetitive DNA sequence, molecular epidemiology and antigenic variation. Keyword co-occurrence, burst and timeline analyses showed that previous RIFIN protein-associated publications mainly focused on gene properties and functions, involving keywords of repetitive DNA sequence and evolution, and recent hot topics for the RIFIN protein research shifted to genetic diversity and immune response, involving keywords of genetic diversity, antigenic variation and binding. CONCLUSIONS: The annual number of RIFIN protein-associated publications was relatively stable from 1993 to 2022. This bibliometric analysis may provide insights into future researches on the RIFIN protein.

Objective: To analyze the differences in clinicopathological features of colon cancers and survival between patients with right- versus left-sided colon cancers. Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. Information on patients with colon cancer from January 2016 to August 2020 was collected from the prospective registry database at Peking Union Medical College Hospital . Primary tumors located in the cecum, ascending colon, and proximal two-thirds of the transverse colon were defined as right-sided colon cancers (RCCs), whereas primary tumors located in the distal third of the transverse colon, descending colon, or sigmoid colon were defined as left-sided colon cancers (LCCs). Clinicopathological features were compared using the χ2 test or Mann-Whitney U test. Survival was estimated by Kaplan-Meier curves and the log-rank test. Factors that differed significantly between the two groups were identified by multivariate survival analyses performed with the Cox proportional hazards function. One propensity score matching was performed to eliminate the effects of confounding factors. Results: The study cohort comprised 856 patients, with TNM Stage I disease, 391 (45.7%) with Stage II, and 336 (39.3%) with Stage III, including 442 (51.6%) with LCC and 414 (48.4%) with RCC and 129 (15.1%). Defective mismatch repair (dMMR) was identified in 139 patients (16.2%). Compared with RCC, the proportion of men (274/442 [62.0%] vs. 224/414 [54.1%], χ2=5.462, P=0.019), body mass index (24.2 [21.9, 26.6] kg/m2 vs. 23.2 [21.3, 25.5] kg/m2, U=78,789.0, P<0.001), and well/moderately differentiated cancer (412/442 [93.2%] vs. 344/414 [83.1%], χ2=22.266, P<0.001) were higher in the LCC than the RCC group. In contrast, the proportion of dMMR (40/442 [9.0%] vs. 99/414 [23.9%], χ2=34.721, P<0.001) and combined vascular invasion (106/442[24.0%] vs. 125/414[30.2%], χ2=4.186, P=0.041) were lower in the LCC than RCC group. The median follow-up time for all patients was 48 (range 33, 59) months. The log-rank test revealed no significant differences in disease-free survival (DFS) (P=0.668) or overall survival (OS) (P=0.828) between patients with LCC versus RCC. Cox proportional hazards model showed that dMMR was significantly associated with a longer DFS (HR=0.419, 95%CI: 0.204â0.862, P=0.018), whereas a higher proportion of T3-4 (HR=2.178, 95%CI: 1.089â4.359, P=0.028), N+ (HR=2.126, 95%CI: 1.443â3.133, P<0.001), and perineural invasion (HR=1.835, 95%CI: 1.115â3.020, P=0.017) were associated with poor DFS. Tumor location was not associated with DFS or OS (all P>0.05). Subsequent analysis showed that RCC patients with dMMR had longer DFS than did RCC patients with pMMR (HR=0.338, 95%CI: 0.146â0.786, P=0.012). However, the difference in OS between the two groups was not statistically significant (HR=0.340, 95%CI:0.103â1.119, P=0.076). After propensity score matching for independent risk factors for DFS, the log-rank test revealed no significant differences in DFS (P=0.343) or OS (P=0.658) between patients with LCC versus RCC, whereas patient with dMMR had better DFS (P=0.047) and OS (P=0.040) than did patients with pMMR. Conclusions: Tumor location is associated with differences in clinicopathological features; however, this has no impact on survival. dMMR status is significantly associated with longer survival: this association may be stronger in RCC patients.

BACKGROUND: Gastro-tracheal fistula (GTF) is one of the most serious complications after esophagogastrostomy and radiotherapy, with very high disability and mortality rates. To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ventricular septal occluder devices (VSOD) for the treatment of Gastro-tracheal fistula (GTF). METHODS: From January 2020 to May 2022, 14 patients with GTF underwent VSOD under real-time fluoroscopy. The technical success, complications, quality of life (QoL), Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) score, Karnofsky score, and median overall survival (mOS) were recorded and analyzed. RESULTS: Technical success, and major complication rates were 71.4%, and 14.3%, respectively. Both the ECOG and the Karnofsky score showed significant improvement at the 2-month evaluation compared with the pretreatment value (p<0.05). For QoL, general health, physical function, vitality, role physical, and social function all improved at the 2-month evaluation (p<0.05), but bodily pain, role emotion, and mental health showed no significant difference (P>0.05). During the mean follow-up of 9.6 months, eight patients were alive, and the mOS was 11.4 months (95% CI, 8.5-14.3). CONCLUSIONS: VSOD is a simple and safe technique for GTF treatment, but long-term observation is needed at multiple centers to confirm our findings.

OBJECTIVE: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease of the joints characterized by inflammation and cartilage degeneration. Zinc finger E-box binding homeobox 2 (ZEB2) contains various function domains that interact with multiple transcription factors involved in various cellular functions. However, the function of ZEB2 in OA has not been clearly illustrated. METHOD: Interleukin-1ß (IL-1ß) was used to establish an OA model in vitro. We quantified the ZEB2 expression in cartilage tissues from OA patients and IL-1ß-induced chondrocytes through reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and Western blot. We then used functional assays to explore the function of ZEB2 during OA progression. RESULTS: ZEB2 expression was increased in OA cartilage tissues and chondrocytes. The silencing of ZEB2 increased aggrecan and collagen II levels, and reduced the content of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), MMP-9, and MMP-13. ZEB2 knockdown inhibited the effects of IL-1ß on the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2, and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2. ZEB2 inhibition also suppressed the levels of IL-6 and tumour necrosis factor-α, and increased the IL-10 level in IL-1ß-treated cells. Mechanically, ZEB2 knockdown blocked the activation of the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway in chondrocytes. CONCLUSION: Knockdown of ZEB2 alleviated IL-1ß-induced cartilage degradation and the inflammatory response through the Wnt/ß-catenin pathway in chondrocytes.
RESUMO
Plasmon polaritons, or plasmons, are coupled oscillations of electrons and electromagnetic fields that can confine the latter into deeply subwavelength scales, enabling novel polaritonic devices. While plasmons have been extensively studied in normal metals or semimetals, they remain largely unexplored in correlated materials. In this paper, we report infrared (IR) nano-imaging of thin flakes of CsV3Sb5, a prototypical layered Kagome metal. We observe propagating plasmon waves in real-space with wavelengths tunable by the flake thickness. From their frequency-momentum dispersion, we infer the out-of-plane dielectric function ϵ c that is generally difficult to obtain in conventional far-field optics, and elucidate signatures of electronic correlations when compared to density functional theory (DFT). We propose correlation effects might have switched the real part of ϵ c from negative to positive values over a wide range of middle-IR frequencies, transforming the surface plasmons into hyperbolic bulk plasmons, and have dramatically suppressed their dissipation.
RESUMO
This study aimed to investigate the differences in peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets among patients with different immune statuses in the early postoperative period after liver transplantation, as well as the dynamic changes during the early post-transplantation period. A retrospective study was conducted, selecting a total of 82 patients who underwent liver transplantation at the General Hospital of PLA Southern Theater Command from January, 2018 to December, 2023. Based on the patients' postoperative immune status, they were categorized into stable group (n=40), infection group (n=21), and rejection group (n=21). Peripheral blood samples of 2-3 ml were collected from patients at weeks 1 to 4 postoperatively, and flow cytometry was employed to measure the absolute values of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets. For metric data conforming to normal distribution and homogeneity of variance, multiple group comparisons were conducted using ANOVA and Bonferroni multiple comparisons; for non-normally distributed data, the Kruskal Wallis test was used. Friedman test was used to compare different time periods within 4 weeks after liver transplantation. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the absolute values of lymphocyte subsets among the three groups in the first week after liver transplantation (P>0.05); however, significant differences were observed in the absolute values of lymphocyte subsets among the three groups in the second, third, and fourth weeks postoperatively (P<0.05). In the second week, the rejection group showed significantly higher absolute counts of T cells, CD4+T cells, CD8+T cells, NK cells, and B cells compared to the infection group (585.0 vs. 199.0; 324.0 vs.113.0; 188.0 vs.56.0; 57.0 vs.11.0; 145.0 vs.65.0 cells/µl), with statistically significant differences (Z=-3.972, P<0.001; Z=-3.590, P=0.001; Z=-3.978, P<0.001; Z=-3.072, P=0.006; Z=-2.472, P=0.040). In the third week, the rejection group showed significantly higher absolute counts of T cells, CD4+T cells, and CD8+T cells compared to the infection group (660.0 vs.216.0; 350.0 vs.123.0; 184.0 vs.76.0 cells/µl), with statistically significant differences (Z=-3.019, P=0.008; Z=-3.492, P=0.001; Z=-2.845, P=0.013). In the fourth week, the rejection group showed significantly higher absolute counts of T cells, CD4+T cells, CD8+T cells, and B cells compared to the infection group (690.0 vs.273.0; 405.0 vs.168.0; 214.0 vs.96.0; 117.0 vs.48.0 cells/µl), with statistically significant differences (Z=-3.379, P=0.002; Z=-3.068, P=0.006; Z=-3.007, P=0.0086; Z=-2.330, P=0.020). Within 4 weeks after liver transplantation, the absolute values of T cells, CD8+T cells, and NK cells in the fourth week were higher than those in the first week, with statistically significant differences (Z=-3.825, P=0.001; Z=-3.466, P=0.003; Z=-3.526, P=0.003); however, the absolute values of B cells showed an overall decreasing trend, and were significantly lower in the fourth week than in the first and second weeks, with statistically significant differences (Z=3.705, P=0.001; Z=2.630, P=0.009). The changes in lymphocyte subset absolute values in the rejection group were more significant than those in the infection group, with T cells, CD4+T cells, and CD8+T cells showing significant increases in the second, third, and fourth weeks postoperatively compared with the first week, with statistically significant differences (Z=-3.466, P=0.003; Z=-4.661, P<0.001; Z=-5.020, P<0.001; Z=-2.749, P=0.036; Z=-4.422, P<0.001; Z=-4.542, P<0.001; Z=-3.466, P=0.003; Z=-3.765, P=0.001; Z=-4.482, P<0.001); NK cell absolute values in the third and fourth weeks postoperatively were significantly higher than those in the first week, with statistically significant differences (Z=-2.570, P=0.061; Z=-3.765, P=0.001). In summary, monitoring the differences and dynamic changes of lymphocyte subsets in patients after liver transplantation may have certain guiding significance for evaluating the immune function status of patients and adjusting treatment plans.

Objective: To analyze the incidence and clinical phenotype of the concomitant extragenital malformations in the patients with female reproductive tract anomalies. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted using clinical data of hospitalized patients diagnosed with uterine, cervical, or vaginal malformations from January 2003 to December 2022 in Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The malformations were classified according to American Society for Reproductive Medicine müllerian anomalies classification 2021, and in each type, the incidence and specific manifestations of concomitant extragnital malformations were analyzed. Results: A total of 444 patients were included. The overall incidence of concomitant extragenital malformations was 43.5% (193/444), including urinary system, skeletal system, and other system malformations. Renal malformations on the obstructed side were present in all patients with oblique vaginal septum syndrome (100.0%, 78/78). The total incidence of concomitant extragnital malformations was as high as 8/11 in uterus didelphys, 43.5% (10/23) in unicornuate uterus, 33.6% (79/235) in Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, 18.8% (6/32) in septate uterus and 18.5% (12/65) in cervical agenesis. Urinary system malformations (30.6%, 136/444) and skeletal system malformations (13.5%, 60/444) were the most common concomitant malformations in all types, in which, unilateral renal agenesis and scoliosis were the most common. Conclusions: Urinary and skeletal system malformations are important features of female reproductive tract anomalies. Urologic ultrasonography and spinal roentgenogram are recommended for all patients with female reproductive tract anomalies.

During mesenchymal migration, F-actin protrusion at the leading edge and actomyosin contraction determine the retrograde flow of F-actin within the lamella. The coupling of this flow to integrin-based adhesions determines the force transmitted to the extracellular matrix and the net motion of the cell. In tissues, motion may also arise from convection, driven by gradients in tissue-scale surface tensions and pressures. However, how migration coordinates with convection to determine the net motion of cellular ensembles is unclear. To explore this, we study the spreading of cell aggregates on adhesive micropatterns on compliant substrates. During spreading, a cell monolayer expands from the aggregate towards the adhesive boundary. However, cells are unable to stabilize the protrusion beyond the adhesive boundary, resulting in retraction of the protrusion and detachment of cells from the matrix. Subsequently, the cells move upwards and rearwards, yielding a bulk convective flow towards the centre of the aggregate. The process is cyclic, yielding a steady-state balance between outward (protrusive) migration along the surface, and 'retrograde' (contractile) flows above the surface. Modelling the cell aggregates as confined active droplets, we demonstrate that the interplay between surface tension-driven flows within the aggregate, radially outward monolayer flow and conservation of mass leads to an internal circulation.

Several studies reported that patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) who remain in long-term remission after allogeneic or autologous transplant have a shorter life expectancy, compared to the general population. However, little is known about the life expectancy of adult long-term survivors of AML who were treated with chemotherapy alone without a transplant and there have been no comparisons with survival among the general population. The current study indicates that the life expectancy of AML patients who achieved and maintained CR for at least 3 years is shorter than expected for age in the US population. This was observed also in patients who did not undergo a transplant including those who have not relapsed during the entire long follow-up period. Thus, late relapse does not explain why patients without transplants have a shortened life expectancy. Taken together, these data strongly suggest that prior chemotherapy for the underlying AML is at least a major contributing factor for the known shortened life expectancy post-transplant.
