RESUMO

The evaluation of 5th and 7th generation bonding agents on the extent of micro leakage from sealant such as fluoride in forty extracted human premolar teeth is of interest to dentists. 40 extracted teeth satisfying the inclusion and exclusion criteria were randomly divided into two groups. Group I utilized a bonding agent from the fifth generation, whereas Group II employed a bonding agent from the seventh generation, both treated with Helioseal F Plus sealant. Following a 24-hour period of cultivation at a temperature of 37°C and subjecting the sample to 100 cycles of temperature fluctuation varying in temperature from 5°C to 55°C, the samples were submerged in a 0.2% methylene blue dye mixture for duration of 24 hours and examined under a microscope. Result showed that fifth-generation agent mean microleakage was greater, but not statistically significant. The seventh-generation agent demonstrated minimal microleakage with simpler application.

RESUMO

The administration of local anesthesia constitutes one of the most anxiety-inducing and painful stimuli in pediatric dentistry. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the effectiveness of vibrating device in comparison to the conventional method for mitigating discomfort while administration of local anesthesia. A total of 30 children aged between 6 and 10 years, requiring local anesthesia for routine dental treatment, were allocated into two groups: a control group and an experimental group, with 15 children in each cohort. In the experimental group, a vibrating device was concurrently placed over the cheek during the administration of the local anesthesia. Pain and discomfort were assessed using both the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale (WBFPRS) and the FLACC (Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, CONSOL ability) scale. It was observed that use of the vibrating device was found to be effective in reducing pain and discomfort during the administration of intraoral local anesthesia.

RESUMO

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a highly effective topical fluoride for halting dental caries; however, it darkens both teeth and restorations. Therefore, it is of interest to assess the shear bond strength (SBS) of glass ionomer cement (GIC) to caries-affected dentin treated with SDF alone and SDF followed by KI. Forty primary molar samples were prepared to reveal a flat dentin surface and were randomly assigned to two groups. In group A, the dentin surfaces were pre-treated with 38% SDF, while in group B, the dentin was treated first with SDF and then with KI before being restored with GIC. The SBS was measured using a universal testing machine. The results show that teeth pre-treated with both SDF and KI demonstrated significantly improved bond strength of GIC to dentin compared to SDF treatment alone.

RESUMO

Introduction: Chronic diabetes develops when the pancreas does not release enough insulin or the body cannot use it. Anemia is a disorder characterized by reduced hemoglobin or red blood cells. The body needs hemoglobin to transport oxygen. Diabetics with anemia may have micro and macro vascular problems, lowering quality of life and increasing medical costs. Aim and Objectives: To examine the prevalence of anemia among type 2 diabetics, its predictive value, and the connection between anemia and type 2 diabetes. Methodology: A prospective study was conducted on 2000 people with and without type 2 diabetes at the medical and diabetology wards of Punjab's Desh Bhagat University and hospital for medicine and health sciences from June 2022 to June 2023. Results: A statistical significance threshold of 0.005 determined that the mean hemoglobin value was 8.44 in oral hypoglycemics, 7.93 in insulin, and 4.45 in combined insulin and oral hypoglycaemics. Conclusion: Diabetics with type 2 diabetes mellitus and anemia were more likely to have CAD, making anemia a chronic condition that negatively impacts quality of life and accelerates disease consequences.

RESUMO

Aphthous ulcers, also known as canker sores, are a common oral condition characterized by recurrent, painful, small ulcers that typically arise on the non-keratinized mucous membranes within the mouth. Although the pathogenesis of aphthous ulcers is not completely understood; it is believed to be involved in a combination of genetic predisposition, local trauma, stress, hormonal changes, and certain environmental factors. Thus, management of aphthous ulcer revolves around reducing pain, promoting healing and preventing recurrence.

RESUMO

Introduction: Local anesthetics are used to alleviate pain, but the prick of the injection delivering anesthesia is known to cause anxiety and pain that affect dental treatment. The most difficult aspect of pediatric dentistry is minimizing discomfort while the intraoral local anesthetic is administered. This pain has been treated using physical, psychological, pharmacological, and combinations of these approaches. Recently, the idea of vibration, which is based on the gates control theory, has gained popularity as a way to reduce discomfort while local anesthesia (LA) is being administered. Aim: The aim of this trial was to evaluate the efficacy of mucosal vibrators in children aged 6-10 years to alleviate pain associated with LA administration. Materials and methods: A total of 60 patients aged 6-10 years requiring inferior alveolar nerve block were enrolled for this randomized, single-blind clinical trial. In group I, before and during LA administration, the customized mucosal vibrator was placed at the injection site. In group II, the topical local anesthetic gel was applied to the injection site prior to the administration of LA. Then, the local anesthetic solution was deposited using a disposable syringe needle on both groups. The pain was evaluated using the physiological scale (pulse rate and oxygen saturation), the subjective scale (Wong-Baker scale), and the objective scale [Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability (FLACC) scale] by an experienced assistant who was unaware of the procedure. Results: A customized mucosal vibrator along with local anesthetic injections resulted in significantly less pain (p = 0.001*) when compared with the injections with topical anesthetic gel. Conclusion: The results show that the customized mucosal vibrator is an effective and inexpensive means to reduce pain during LA administration. RESUMO

A preferable choice of material offers superior resistance against micro-leakage for clinical applications in preventing dental caries in pits and fissures is of interest. A total of 45 extracted human premolars were cleaned, stored in a saline solution, and randomly divided into three groups, each intended for treatment with one of the sealants: Fuzi VII, ClinPro, and Embrace Wetbond. The application of the sealants followed the manufacturers' instructions strictly. The teeth were subjected to thermal cycling to simulate oral conditions. Marginal micro-leakage was then assessed by dye penetration method using a 0.5% methylene blue dye. Teeth were sectioned, and dye penetration was measured under a stereomicroscope. The results showed that all the tested materials exhibited some degree of micro-leakage. Within the limitations of this In vitro study, it was concluded that Embrace Wetbond exhibited superior performance in terms of minimizing marginal micro-leakage among the tested pit and fissure sealants.

RESUMO

A comparative analysis and assessment of the compressive strength (CS) and diametral tensile strength (DTS) between conventional glass ionomer cement (C-GIC) and a silver-reinforced GIC (S-GIC) variant is of interest. Ten specimens of both C-GIC (GC Fuji II, Japan) and S-GIC (Riva Silver, SDI, Australia) were fabricated for the evaluation of compressive strength, and an identical number of samples were created for the examination of tensile strength. These specimens were then tested using a universal testing apparatus. The results exhibited that both the compressive and diametral tensile strengths were significantly greater for the S-GIC cement in comparison to the C-GIC, with a notable p-value of 0.001. The findings suggest that S-GIC may be considered a viable alternative to conventional GIC.

RESUMO

The effect of different cavity liners on the shear bond strength of nanocomposite to dentin is of interest. A total of sixty extracted caries-free maxillary, mandibular molars were randomly assigned to four groups in the following manner Group 1: control (no cavity liner), group 2: Biodentin, group 3: Apacal ART and Group 4: Giomer. Following the application of different cavity liners based on the groups, restoration was carried out using nanocomposite resin using the total-etch Tetric N bond adhesive. The samples were thereafter subjected to a shear bond strength test at a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min until bond failure occurred, utilizing the universal testing machine. The one-way ANOVA test and the post hoc test were used to evaluate the data for pairwise group comparisons. Compared to the control group, all groups showed lower shear bond strength to dentin, irrespective of the type of liner. Apacal ART showed higher shear bond strength followed by giomer and biodentin. However, there's no apparent statistical difference between the groups.

RESUMO

Aims: The purpose of this study was to comparatively evaluate the cutting efficiency of Pedoflex rotary, Kedo SH manual file, and manual K file systems used in root canal instrumentation while performing pulp therapy of deciduous teeth with a stereomicroscope. Materials and Methods: Forty-five extracted primary human root canals were chosen, and following the removal of pulp tissue, the canals were dyed with Indian ink and left to dry for 2 h. The samples were randomly divided into three groups, Group A: Kedo SH manual file system (n = 15), Group B: Pedoflex rotary file system (n = 15), and Group C: Manual K files (n = 15). After root canal instrumentation, all the root canals were cleared to make them transparent. The teeth after clearing were observed under stereomicroscope and scored according to the amount of dye present in the root canals. The data were tabulated and statistically analyzed with SPSS version 16 using Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Dunn's test (post-hoc). Results: With regards to cutting efficiency, there was a statistically noteworthy difference among groups A and C [P = 0.000] and groups B and C [P = 0.000]. Furthermore, groups A and B did not differ statistically significantly [P = 0.950]. Conclusions: Cutting efficacy of the Pedoflex rotary files was seen to be superior to that of Kedo SH and manual K files. Clinical Significance: Rotary files in deciduous teeth have various benefits over manual files, resulting in a noticeable reduction in working time, which has aided in maintaining patient participation by reducing the risk for fatigue. We conclude that NiTi rotary devices result in a superior cutting efficiency and, as a result, greater clinical success.
