BACKGROUND: Essential tremor (ET) and dystonic tremor (DT) are the two most common tremor disorders, and misdiagnoses are very common due to similar tremor symptoms. In this study, we explore the structural network mechanisms of ET and DT using brain grey matter (GM) morphological networks and combine those with machine learning models. METHODS: 3D-T1 structural images of 75 ET patients, 71 DT patients, and 79 healthy controls (HCs) were acquired. We used voxel-based morphometry to obtain GM images and constructed GM morphological networks based on the Kullback-Leibler divergence-based similarity (KLS) method. We used the GM volumes, morphological relations, and global topological properties of GM-KLS morphological networks as input features. We employed three classifiers to perform the classification tasks. Moreover, we conducted correlation analysis between discriminative features and clinical characteristics. RESULTS: 16 morphological relations features and 1 global topological metric were identified as the discriminative features, and mainly involved the cerebello-thalamo-cortical circuits and the basal ganglia area. The Random Forest (RF) classifier achieved the best classification performance in the three-classification task, achieving a mean accuracy (mACC) of 78.7%, and was subsequently used for binary classification tasks. Specifically, the RF classifier demonstrated strong classification performance in distinguishing ET vs. HCs, ET vs. DT, and DT vs. HCs, with mACCs of 83.0 %, 95.2 %, and 89.3 %, respectively. Correlation analysis demonstrated that four discriminative features were significantly associated with the clinical characteristics. CONCLUSION: This study offers new insights into the structural network mechanisms of ET and DT. It demonstrates the effectiveness of combining GM-KLS morphological networks with machine learning models in distinguishing between ET, DT, and HCs.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate the effects of lower-extremity cannulation on the intra-arterial hemodynamic environment, oxygen content, blood damage, and thrombosis risk under different levels of veno-arterial (V-A) ECMO support. METHODS: Computational fluid dynamics methods were used to investigate the effects of different levels of ECMO support (ECMO flow ratios supplying oxygen-rich blood 100-40 %). Flow rates and oxygen content in each arterial branch were used to determine organ perfusion. A new thrombosis model considering platelet activation and deposition was proposed to determine the platelet activation and thrombosis risk at different levels of ECMO support. A red blood cell damage model was used to explore the risk of hemolysis. RESULTS: Our study found that partial recovery of cardiac function improved the intra-arterial hemodynamic environment, with reduced impingement of the intra-arterial flow field by high-velocity blood flow from the cannula, a flow rate per unit time into each arterial branch closer to physiological levels, and improved perfusion in the lower extremities. Partial recovery of cardiac function helps reduce intra-arterial high shear stress and residence time, thereby reducing blood damage. The overall level of hemolysis and platelet activation in the aorta decreased with the gradual recovery of cardiac contraction function. The areas at high risk of thrombosis under V-A ECMO femoral cannulation support were the aortic root and the area distal to the cannula, which moved to the descending aorta when cardiac function recovered to 40-60 %. However, with the recovery of cardiac contraction function, hypoxic blood pumped by the heart is insufficient in supplying oxygen to the front of the aortic arch, which may result in upper extremity hypoxia. CONCLUSION: We developed a thrombosis risk prediction model applicable to ECMO cannulation and validated the model accuracy using clinical data. Partial recovery of cardiac function contributed to an improvement in the aortic hemodynamic environment and a reduction in the risk of blood damage; however, there is a potential risk of insufficient perfusion of oxygen-rich blood to organs.

Methyl acetate (MA) is a suitable solvent for low-temperature electrolyte solutions, but its poor stability against lithium metal is a big problem. Herein, a simple and cheap solution of LiPF6 dissolved in MA was successfully employed for Li4Ti5O12/graphite dual-ion batteries (DIBs). This cell has a long cycle life with 93.1% capacity retention after 1000 cycles. Moreover, it has superior performance at low temperatures (-40 °C) compared to other reported DIBs. The storage behavior of PF6- solvated by MA in graphite cathode has been investigated in detail by in situ X-ray diffraction (XRD) in combination with electrochemical dilatometry (ECD).

BACKGROUND: The effect of the periurethral cleansing range on catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) occurrence remains unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of expanded periurethral cleansing for reducing CAUTI in comatose patients. METHODS: In this randomized controlled trial, eligible patients in our hospital were enrolled and allocated randomly to the experimental group (expanded periurethral cleansing protocol; n = 225) or the control group (usual periurethral cleansing protocol; n = 221). The incidence of CAUTI on days 3, 7, and 10 after catheter insertion were compared, and the pathogen results and influencing factors were analyzed. RESULTS: The incidences of CAUTI in the experimental and control groups on days 3, 7, and 10 were (5/225, 2.22% vs. 7/221, 3.17%, P = 0.54), (12/225, 5.33% vs. 18/221, 8.14%, P = 0.24), and (23/225, 10.22% vs. 47/221, 21.27%, P = 0.001), respectively; Escherichia coli and Candida albicans were the most common species in the two groups. The incidences of bacterial CAUTI and fungal CAUTI in the two groups were 11/225, 4.89% vs. 24/221, 10.86%, P = 0.02) and (10/225, 4.44% vs. 14/221, 6.33%, P = 0.38), respectively. The incidences of polymicrobial CAUTI in the two groups were 2/225 (0.89%) and 9/221 (4.07%), respectively (P = 0.03). The percentages of CAUTI-positive females in the two groups were 9.85% (13/132) and 29.52% (31/105), respectively (P < 0.05). The proportion of CAUTI-positive patients with diabetes in the experimental and control groups was 17.72% (14/79), which was lower than the 40.85% (29/71) in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Expanded periurethral cleansing could reduce the incidence of CAUTI, especially those caused by bacteria and multiple pathogens, in comatose patients with short-term catheterization (≤ 10 days). Female patients and patients with diabetes benefit more from the expanded periurethral cleansing protocol for reducing CAUTI.

BACKGROUND: The proinflammatory response induced by macrophages plays a crucial role in the development of sepsis and the resulting multiorgan dysfunction. Identifying new regulatory targets for macrophage homeostasis and devising effective treatment strategies remains a significant challenge in contemporary research. PURPOSE: This study aims to identify new regulatory targets for macrophage homeostasis and develop effective strategies for treating sepsis. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Macrophage infiltration in septic patients and in lungs, kidneys, and brains of caecum ligation and puncture (CLP)-induced septic mice was observed using CIBERSORT and immunofluorescence (IF). Upon integrating the MSigDB database and GSE65682 dataset, differently expressed macrophage-associated genes (DEMAGs) were identified. Critical DEMAGs were confirmed through machine learning. The protein level of the critical DEMAG was detected in PBMCs of septic patients, RAW264.7 cells, and mice lungs, kidneys, and brains using ELISA, western blot, immunohistochemistry, and IF. siRNA was applied to investigate the effect of the critical DEMAG in RAW264.7 cells. A natural product library was screened to find a compound targeting the critical DEMAG protein. The binding of compounds and proteins was analyzed through molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, CETSA, and MST analysis. The therapeutic efficacy of the compounds against sepsis was then evaluated through in vitro and in vivo experiments. RESULTS: Macrophage infiltration was inversely correlated with survival in septic patients. The critical differentially expressed molecule RasGRP1 was frequently observed in the PBMCs of septic patients, LPS-induced RAW264.7 cells, and the lungs, kidneys, and brains of septic mice. Silencing RasGRP1 alleviated proinflammatory response and oxidative stress in LPS-treated RAW264.7 cells. Catechin Hydrate (CH) was identified as an inhibitor of RasGRP1, capable of maintaining macrophage homeostasis and mitigating lung, kidney, and brain damage during sepsis. CONCLUSION: This study demonstrates that RasGRP1, a novel activator of macrophage proinflammatory responses, plays a crucial role in the excessive inflammation and oxidative stress associated with sepsis. CH shows potential for treating sepsis by inhibiting RasGRP1.

BACKGROUND: In the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME), triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (trem2) is widely considered to be a crucial molecule on tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs). Multiple studies have shown that trem2 may function as an immune checkpoint in various malignant tumors, mediating tumor immune evasion. However, its specific molecular mechanisms, especially in glioma, remain elusive. METHODS: Lentivirus was transfected to establish cells with stable knockdown of trem2. A Transwell system was used for segregated coculture of glioma cells and microglia. Western blotting, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT‒PCR), and immunofluorescence (IF) were used to measure the expression levels of target proteins. The proliferation, invasion, and migration of cells were detected by colony formation, cell counting kit-8 (CCK8), 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) and transwell assays. The cell cycle, apoptosis rate and reactive oxygen species (ROS) level of cells were assessed using flow cytometry assays. The comet assay and tube formation assay were used to detect DNA damage in glioma cells and angiogenesis activity, respectively. Gl261 cell lines and C57BL/6 mice were used to construct the glioma orthotopic transplantation tumor model. RESULTS: Trem2 was highly overexpressed in glioma TAMs. Knocking down trem2 in microglia suppressed the growth and angiogenesis activity of glioma cells in vivo and in vitro. Mechanistically, knockdown of trem2 in microglia promoted proinflammatory microglia and inhibited anti-inflammatory microglia by activating jak2/stat1 and inhibiting the NF-κB p50 signaling pathway. The proinflammatory microglia produced high concentrations of nitric oxide (NO) and high levels of the proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-1ß, and caused further DNA damage and promoted the apoptosis rate of tumor cells. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings revealed that trem2 in microglia plays a significant role in the TIME of gliomas. Knockdown of trem2 in microglia might help to improve the efficiency of inhibiting glioma growth and delaying tumor progression and provide new ideas for further treatment of glioma.

BACKGROUND: Universal varicella vaccination has been introduced in many countries, but there are a number of important differences in their vaccination strategies. It is essential to establish a vaccination program that can maximize the benefits of varicella vaccine, but there is a lack of comprehensive research on the effectiveness of varicella vaccine in different vaccination status. METHODS: Using data from population-based surveillance platforms we conducted a 1:2 matched case-control study. The cases were clinically diagnosed varicella with onset from 2017 to 2021, 1-14 years old in Chaoyang District, Beijing. The controls were matched according to date of birth (±1 month), sex and residence. The vaccination data of the subjects were obtained from the Childhood Immunization Information Management System in Beijing. Using conditional logistic regression models with or without interaction terms, we evaluated the effectiveness of varicella vaccine in different vaccination status. RESULTS: A total of 2528 cases and 5056 controls were enrolled. This study found that whether the time since last vaccination was adjusted had a substantial effect on the comparing vaccine effectiveness (VE) between subgroups. After adjustment for the time since last vaccination, 1) the incremental VE of 2-dose was 49.6 % (95 % Confidence Interval [CI], 38.8-58.6) compared with 1-dose (93.9 % vs. 88.0 %); 2) Among children who received one dose, the risk of chickenpox in children vaccinated at 18-23 months was 1.382 (95 %CI, 1.084-1.762) times that in children vaccinated at 12-17 months. 3) the VE with less than one, two, and three year intervals is higher than that with six-year-intervals (P < 0.05), respectively. CONCLUSIONS: When comparing VE between subgroups of different vaccination status, the time since last vaccination should be adjusted. The first dose of varicella vaccine should be given as early as the second year of life, and the second dose can improve vaccine effectiveness.

Systematic research into device-induced red blood cell (RBC) damage beyond hemolysis, including correlations between hemolysis and RBC-derived extracellular vesicles, remains limited. This study investigated non-physiological shear stress-induced RBC damage and changes in related biochemical indicators under two blood pump clinical support conditions. Pressure heads of 100 and 350 mmHg, numerical simulation methods, and two in vitro loops were utilized to analyze the shear stress and changes in RBC morphology, hemolysis, biochemistry, metabolism, and oxidative stress. The blood pump created higher shear stress in the 350-mmHg condition than in the 100-mmHg condition. With prolonged blood pump operation, plasma-free hemoglobin and cholesterol increased, whereas plasma glucose and nitric oxide decreased in both loops. Notably, plasma iron and triglyceride concentrations increased only in the 350-mmHg condition. The RBC count and morphology, plasma lactic dehydrogenase, and oxidative stress across loops did not differ significantly. Plasma extracellular vesicles, including RBC-derived microparticles, increased significantly at 600 min in both loops. Hemolysis correlated with plasma triglyceride, cholesterol, glucose, and nitric oxide levels. Shear stress, but not oxidative stress, was the main cause of RBC damage. Hemolysis alone inadequately reflects overall blood pump-induced RBC damage, suggesting the need for additional biomarkers for comprehensive assessments.

Lipomas, benign tumors originating from the anomalous proliferation of adipocytes, predominantly emerge in regions rich in adipose tissue. However, their presence in the head and neck areas remains rare, constituting approximately 13% of all diagnosed lipoma cases. This study presents a case involving a substantial subcutaneous lipoma located at the posterior neck, measuring about 20 cm × 19 cm × 10 cm. The patient presented with swelling and pain in the back of the neck. And the considerable dimensions of this lipoma significantly impacted the patient's quality of life and aesthetic appearance. Concurrently, the patient exhibited symptoms indicative of degenerative cervical spine disease and cervical disc herniation. After admission, a comprehensive examination, including ultrasound, CT scan, and MRI, was conducted. Given the clinical complexity, the decision for surgical intervention was deemed essential. The surgical strategy entailed a meticulous total excision of the tumor through an incision made in the posterior cross-neck, coupled with the strategic removal of excess skin. To facilitate wound healing, postoperative management included the use of negative pressure drainage. Pathological examination conclusively identified the mass as a lipoma. Postoperative follow-ups indicated successful recovery, as evidenced by the restoration of the neck's aesthetic contour and the complete resolution of the previously observed restrictions in sagittal neck movement.

The essential role of electrolyte solutions in traditional electrochemical energy storage devices is crucial to enhancing their performance. Consequently, a wide array of electrolyte mixtures along with diverse electrodes have been extensively explored across different models of secondary batteries. Fascinatingly, the role of ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) as a key cosolvent in the electrolyte mixture of commercial lithium-ion batteries with a graphite anode is garnering growing attention in alternative rechargeable dual-ion batteries utilizing graphite cathodes. In this context, the advancement and function of EMC as a solvent in electrolyte mixtures for lithium-ion and dual-ion batteries were extensively and thoroughly examined in this analysis, encompassing the genesis, synthesis process, and diverse characteristics for the practical uses of these batteries. Here, the review aims to guide readers in understanding EMC's function and impact as a cosolvent in electrolyte mixtures for both major secondary lithium-ion and dual-ion batteries, considering their distinct physicochemical characteristics.

BACKGROUND: The aim of our study was to explore the characteristics of the arterial risk factors and ankle-brachial index (ABI) in patients with lower extremity chronic venous disease (LECVD). METHODS: A total of 2642 subjects were employed in our study. The lifestyle and clinical data were collected. The history of vascular diseases contained coronary artery disease, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes. ABI low than 0.9 was considered as lower extremity artery disease (LEAD). A series of blood indicators were measured. RESULTS: Patients with ABI low than 0.9 belonged to the group of LEAD. Age, smoking, drinking, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, lipid-lowering drug, antidiabetic, total protein, total protein, triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, glycosylated hemoglobin and homocysteine were the common risk factors shared by LEAD and LECVD (P<0.05). The prevalence of LEAD in patients with LECVD was higher than those without LECVD (P<0.05). In Pearson correlation analysis, LECVD was related to LEAD (P<0.05). Before and after adjusted shared factors, as the performance of the logistic regression models, LEAD was an independent risk factor for the prevalence of LECVD (OR=2.937, 95% CI: [1.956, 4.411], P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that an ABI lower than 0.9 is an independent risk factor for LECVD.

The understanding of dynamic plasma proteome features in hybrid immunity and breakthrough infection is limited. A deeper understanding of the immune differences between heterologous and homologous immunization could assist in the future establishment of vaccination strategies. In this study, 40 participants who received a third dose of either a homologous BBIBP-CorV or a heterologous ZF2001 protein subunit vaccine following two doses of inactivated coronavirus disease 2019 vaccines and 12 patients with BA2.2 breakthrough infections were enrolled. Serum samples were collected at days 0, 28, and 180 following the boosting vaccination and breakthrough and then analyzed using neutralizing antibody tests and mass spectrometer-based proteomics. Mass cytometry of peripheral blood mononuclear cell samples was also performed in this cohort. The chemokine signaling pathway and humoral response markers (IgG2 and IgG3) associated with infection were found to be upregulated in breakthrough infections compared to vaccination-induced immunity. Elevated expression of IGKV, IGHV, IL-17 signaling, and the phagocytosis pathway, along with lower expression of FGL2, were correlated with higher antibody levels in the boosting vaccination groups. The MAPK signaling pathway and Fc gamma R-mediated phagocytosis were more enriched in the heterologous immunization groups than in the homologous immunization groups. Breakthrough infections can trigger more intensive inflammatory chemokine responses than vaccination. T-cell and innate immune activation have been shown to be closely related to enhanced antibody levels after vaccination and therefore might be potential targets for vaccine adjuvant design.

The cytochrome P450 (CYP450) gene family plays a vital role in basic metabolism, hormone signaling, and enhances plant resistance to stress. Among them, the CYP82 gene family is primarily found in dicots, and they are typically activated in response to various specific environmental stresses. Nevertheless, their roles remain considerably obscure, particularly within the context of cucumber. In the present study, 12 CYP82 subfamily genes were identified in the cucumber genome. Bioinformatics analysis included gene structure, conserved motif, cis-acting promoter element, and so on. Subcellular localization predicted that all CYP82 genes were located in the endoplasmic reticulum. The results of cis element analysis showed that CYP82s may significantly affect the response to stress, hormones, and light exposure. Expression patterns of the CYP82 genes were characterized by mining available RNA-seq data followed by qRT-PCR (quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction) analysis. Members of CYP82 genes display specific expression profiles in different tissues, and in response to PM and abiotic stresses in this study, the role of CsCYP82D102, a member of the CYP82 gene family, was investigated. The upregulation of CsCYP82D102 expression in response to powdery mildew (PM) infection and treatment with methyl jasmonate (MeJA) or salicylic acid (SA) was demonstrated. Further research found that transgenic cucumber plants overexpressing CsCYP82D102 display heightened resistance against PM. Wild-type (WT) leaves exhibited average lesion areas of approximately 29.7% at 7 dpi upon powdery mildew inoculation. In contrast, the two independent CsCYP82D102 overexpression lines (OE#1 and OE#3) displayed significantly reduced necrotic areas, with average lesion areas of approximately 13.4% and 5.7%. Additionally, this enhanced resistance is associated with elevated expression of genes related to the SA/MeJA signaling pathway in transgenic cucumber plants. This study provides a theoretical basis for further research on the biological functions of the P450 gene in cucumber plants.

PURPOSE: To investigate the incidence of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) or osteoarthritis (OA) after primary joint arthroplasty; to analyze the optimal cut-off values of clinical serum markers C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and D-dimer for the diagnosis of PJI in RA patients; and to explore their diagnostic efficacy and clinical significance. METHODS: Clinical data of 15,702 patients with RA (578) or OA (15,124) who underwent total joint arthroplasty from 2013 to 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Serum CRP, ESR, and D-dimer were recorded for each patient, and subject characteristic curves were used to determine the optimal threshold values of CRP, ESR, and D-dimer for RA-PJI and OA-PJI and to compare the areas under the curves to assess the diagnostic efficacy of the optimal threshold values of serologic indices for RA-PJI. RESULTS: The five year incidence of PJI was 6.92% in RA patients and 0.67% in OA patients. The optimal thresholds of CRP, ESR, and D-dimer for the diagnosis of RA-PJI were respectively 13.85 mg/L, 33.02 mm/h, and 796.50 ng/mL. The sensitivities of the optimal thresholds were respectively 67.6%, 62.2%, and 56.8%, and the specificities were 74.7%, 60.4%, and 74.4%. CONCLUSION: RA patients have a higher incidence of PJI than OA patients. The optimal thresholds for CRP, ESR, and d-dimer for the diagnosis of PJI were higher in RA patients than in OA patients, but the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnosis were not as good as in OA patients.

Glioblastoma, previously known as glioblastoma multiform (GBM), is a type of glioma with a high degree of malignancy and rapid growth rate. It is highly dependent on glutamine (Gln) metabolism during proliferation and lags in neoangiogenesis, leading to extensive Gln depletion in the core region of GBM. Gln-derived glutamate is used to synthesize the antioxidant Glutathione (GSH). We demonstrated that GSH levels are also reduced in Gln deficiency, leading to increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. The ROS production induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and the proteins in the ER are secreted into the extracellular medium. We collected GBM cell supernatants cultured with or without Gln medium; the core and peripheral regions of human GBM tumor tissues. Proteomic analysis was used to screen out the target-secreted protein CypB. We demonstrated that the extracellular CypB expression is associated with Gln deprivation. Then, we verified that GBM can promote the glycolytic pathway by activating HIF-1α to upregulate the expression of GLUT1 and LDHA expressions. Meanwhile, the DRP1 was activated, increasing mitochondrial fission, thus inhibiting mitochondrial function. To explore the specific mechanism of its regulation, we constructed a si-CD147 knockout model and added human recombinant CypB protein to verify that extracellular CypB influenced the expression of downstream p-AKT through its cell membrane receptor CD147 binding. Moreover, we confirmed that p-AKT could upregulate HIF-1α and DRP1. Finally, we observed that extracellular CypB can bind to the CD147 receptor, activate p-AKT, and upregulate HIF-1α and DRP1 in order to promote glycolysis while inhibiting mitochondrial function to adapt to the Gln-deprived microenvironment.

This study aimed to assess the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of osteoarticular brucellosis. We conducted a retrospective study enrolling brucellosis patients from the Sixth People's Hospital of Shenyang between September 2014 and June 2019. A total of 1917 participants were admitted during this period. After applying propensity score matching, we retrospectively analyzed 429 patients with osteoarthritis and 429 patients without osteoarthritis. The primary outcome was treatment completion. The secondary outcome was symptom disappearance and seroconversion. Brucellosis patients with osteoarthritis had longer treatment course (160 [134.3-185.7] vs. 120 [102.3-137.7] d, p = 0.008) than those without osteoarthritis. The most common involved site was lumbar vertebrae (290 [67.6%]) in brucellosis patients with osteoarthritis. Longer symptom duration (90 [83.0-97.0] vs. 42 [40.2-43.8], p < 0.001) along with no significant difference in seroconversion (180 [178.8-181.2] vs. 180 [135.1-224.9], p = 0.212) was observed in osteoarthritis patients with treatment course >90 d. Peripheral joint involvement (adjusted hazard ratio [95% confidence interval] 1.485 [1.103-1.999]; p = 0.009) had a shorter symptom duration compared with shaft joint involvement. No significant differences were observed in treatment therapy between doxycycline plus rifampin (DR) or plus cephalosporins (DRC) in treatment course (p = 0.190), symptom persistence (p = 0.294), and seroconversion (p = 0.086). Lumbar vertebra was the most commonly involved site. Even if all symptoms disappeared, Serum agglutination test potentially remained positive in some patients. Compared with peripheral arthritis, shaft arthritis was the high-risk factor for longer symptom duration. The therapeutic effects were similar between DR and DRC. In summary, our study provided important insights into the clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of osteoarticular brucellosis. Clinical Trial Registration number: NCT04020536.

OBJECTIVE: Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that occurs at higher rates in young women. Evidence suggests that SLE may be associated with ovarian dysfunction. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the possible effects of SLE on ovarian reserve function. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases were searched from inception to July 2023 to identify studies that compared ovarian reserve in patients with SLE to that of healthy individuals. The study examined anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), antral follicle count (AFC), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) as outcomes. RESULTS: Thirteen studies (n=1017) were eligible for meta-analysis. Females with SLE had significantly lower levels of AMH (weighted mean difference [WMD]: -1.07, 95% confidence interval [CI]: -1.37 to -0.76, P<0.001) and AFC (WMD: -3.46, 95% CI: -4.57 to -2.34, P<0.001). There was no significant difference in FSH levels. Subgroup analyses by age of onset revealed that SLE patients with adult-onset had significantly lower AMH levels (WMD: -1.44, 95% CI: -1.71 to -1.18, P<0.001), lower AFCs (WMD: -3.11, 95% CI: -3.60 to -2.61, P<0.001) and higher FSH levels (WMD: 0.60, 95% CI: 0.15 to 1.05, P<0.01). However, SLE patients with juvenile-onset did not exhibit significant differences in their AMH and FSH levels, except for AFCs (WMD: -7.27, 95% CI: -12.39 to -2.14, P<0.01). CONCLUSION: The impact of SLE on ovarian reserve is significant, and the effect may be particularly severe in cases of adult-onset SLE.

Objective: In this article, the epidemiology, molecular mechanism of occurrence and development, risk factors, and treatment of diabetic microvascular complications such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy were discussed, providing the theoretical basis for more accurate elucidation of the pathogenesis and treatment of diabetic microvascular complications. Methods: The electronic database of PubMed was searched, and retrieved papers were screened for eligibility by two independent reviewers. Data were extracted using a standardized data extraction form and the quality of included papers was assessed. Results: Thirty-eight articles were included. Diabetes nephropathy, diabetes peripheral neuropathy, and diabetes retinopathy are the most common and serious microvascular complications of diabetes in clinical patients. Renin-angiotensin system blockers, beta drugs, statins, antivascular endothelial growth factor drugs, and antioxidants can inhibit the occurrence of microvascular complications in diabetes. Conclusions: However, there has been no breakthrough in the treatment of diabetic microvascular complications. Therefore, prevention of diabetic microvascular complications is more important than treatment.

The rotor axial displacement of the full magnetic levitation blood pump varies with the operating conditions. The effect of rotor axial displacement on simulation results is unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of rotor axial displacement on the predicted blood pump flow field, hydraulic performance, and hemocompatibility through simulation. This study used the CentriMag blood pump as a model, and conducted computational fluid dynamics simulations to assess the impact of rotor displacement. Considering rotor axial displacement leads to opposite results regarding predicted residence time and thrombotic risk compared with not considering rotor axial displacement. Not considering rotor axial displacement leads to deviations in the predicted values, where the effects on the flow field within the blood pump, ratio of secondary flow, and amount of shear stress >150 Pa are significant. The variation in the back clearance of the blood pump caused by the ideal and actual rotor displacements is the main cause of the above phenomena. Given that the rotor axial displacement significantly impacts the simulation accuracy, the effect of rotor axial displacement must be considered in the simulation.
