RESUMO

Low-carbon development of ordinary Portland cement industry is of great significance to China's target "to peak carbon dioxide emissions before 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality before 2060". Neglecting the regional heterogeneity in China, few studies emphasized the status and developments of energy intensity and CO2 emissions of ordinary Portland cement industry in Guizhou of Southwest China. To bridge this knowledge gap, we present an annual intensity dataset of energy and CO2 emissions at plant-level for Guizhou's ordinary Portland cement industry, which involves the details of clinker rotary kilns, yearly production of clinker and cement products, fuel consumption and electricity consumption, total CO2 emission of cement products, energy intensity indicators of clinker and cement products, utilization ratio of solid-waste in clinker and cement production, and CO2 emission factors of cement products. It is an important supplement and to existing energy intensity and CO2 emissions estimates at plant-level and provincial official emissions inventories that converges all regions of China.

OBJECTIVE: Multiple-level Intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) in patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is related to postoperative re-herniation and low back pain. Although many investigators believed that there is an interdependence between paraspinal muscles degeneration and IDD, few studies focused on the fatty infiltration of paraspinal muscles on single- and multiple-level IDD in patients with LDH. This study aims to investigate the difference on the fatty infiltration of paraspinal muscles between single- and multiple-levels IDD in patients with LDH. and to explore in patients with LDH whether fatty infiltration is a potential risk factor for multiple-level IDD. METHODS: This study was conducted as a retrospective observational analysis of 82 patients with LDH from January 1, 2020 to December 30, 2020 in our hospital were enrolled. Twenty-seven cases had single-level IDD (Group A), and 55 cases had multiple-level IDD (Group B). We measured the mean computed tomography (CT) density value of the paraspinal muscles, including multifidus (MF), erector spinae (ES) and psoas muscle (PM) at each disc from L1 to S1. Subgroups were set to further analyze the odds ratio (OR) of fatty infiltration of paraspinal muscles in different sex and BMI groups. We measured sagittal angles and analyzed the relationships between these angles and IDD. Finally, we use logistic regression, adjusted for other confounding factors, to investigate whether fatty infiltration is an independent risk factor for multi-level IDD. RESULTS: The average age in multi-level IDD (51.40 ± 15.47 years) was significantly higher than single-level IDD (33.37 ± 7.10 years). The mean CT density value of MF, ES and PM in single-level IDD was significantly higher than multi-level IDD (all ps < 0.001). There was no significant difference of the mean value of angles between the two groups. No matter being fat (body mass index [BMI] > 24.0 kg/m2) or normal, patients with low mean muscle CT density value of MF and ES are significantly easier to suffer from multiple-level IDD. In the pure model, the average CT density value of the MF, ES and PM is all significantly associated with the occurrence of multi-IDD. However, after adjusting for various confounding factors, only the OR of the average CT density value for MF and ES remains statistically significant (OR = 0.810, 0.834, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: In patients with LDH, patients with multiple-level IDD have more severe fatty infiltration of MF and ES than those with single-level IDD. Fatty infiltration of MF and ES are independent risk factors for multiple-level IDD in LDH patients.

A novel method for synthesizing substituted 4-chloroquinolines has been devised, utilizing a cascade reaction of N-aryl enaminones promoted by bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate (BTC) and triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO). This approach features accessible starting materials, a broad substrate range, extensive functional group compatibility, gentle reaction conditions, and straightforward operation. Its versatility is evidenced by its facile scalability and suitability for late-stage derivatization. A plausible mechanism involving α-carbonylation, 6π-azaelectrocyclization, and dehydroxychlorination sequence is proposed.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a major contributor to cervical cancer. Persistent HPV infection can trigger the expression of IL-32, yet the precise role of IL-32 in the occurrence and development of cervical cancer remains elusive. To investigate this, qRT‒PCR and western blotting were utilized to measure the mRNA and protein expression levels; bioinformatics analysis was used to screen differentially expressed miRNAs; wound healing and transwell assays were conducted to evaluate cell migration and invasion capabilities. Comparative analysis revealed significantly elevated IL-32 expression in cervical cancer tissues and cell lines compared to control groups. In SiHa and/or HeLa, overexpression of IL-32 and IL-32 exposure markedly upregulated miR-205, whereas its knockdown resulted in a substantial downregulation of miR-205. Furthermore, miR-205 also could significantly regulate the expression of IL-32 in HeLa and SiHa cells. Upregulation and downregulation of IL-32 led to a significant increase or decrease in NFκB expression, respectively. Treatment with BAY11-7082 (an NFκB inhibitor) notably decreased miR-205 expression but had no effect on IL-32 levels. qRT‒PCR and western blotting analyses demonstrated that both overexpression and underexpression of IL-32 and miR-205 significantly enhanced or reduced MMP2 and MMP9 expression in cervical cancer cells, respectively. Knockdown of IL-32 significantly inhibited the migration and invasion of HeLa and SiHa; conversely, treatment with rIL-32α and rIL-32γ notably promoted their migration and invasion. In brief, IL-32 is highly expressed via the formation of a positive regulatory loop with NFκB/miR-205, contributing to the persistence of inflammation and promoting the progression of cervical cancer.

Objective: Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) is an established treatment for cervical degenerative disc disease, but cervical spine surgery may affect sagittal alignment parameters and induce adjacent segment degeneration (ASD). This study aimed to determine the risk factors for developing ASD following anterior cervical plate and cage (ACPC) compared with the use of zero-profile anchored spacer (ROI-C). Methods: A retrospective contrastive study included 105 patients who underwent ACPC or ROI-C between January 2014 and October 2019 at our treatment centre. There were 50 cases in the ROI-C group and 55 patients in the ACPC group. Clinical and radiological results and the incidence of ASD were assessed after surgery. All patients were further divided into the ASD and non-ASD groups for subgroup analysis. Results: At each follow-up time, there was no statistically significant in radiographic parameters between the two groups. The overall ASD rate was higher in the ACPC group than in the ROI-C group (65.5% vs. 44.0%, p = 0.027). The low preoperative Cobb angle, low preoperative segment angle (SA), and loss of Cobb (ΔCobb) were significantly correlated with ASD. However, clinical outcomes were not associated with ASD at any postoperative follow-up visit. Conclusion: Equally good therapeutic effects were achieved with both the ROI-C and ACPC. The occurrence of ASD was considerably higher in the ACPC group than in the ROI-C group. The preoperative Cobb angle, preoperative SA, and ΔCobb were the most associated with an increase in the risk of ASD.

BACKGROUND: The prognostic value of cellular retinoic acid-binding protein 2 (CRABP2), in lung cancer patients remains to be uncertained. Therefore, our research attempted to assess the relationship between CRABP2 and survival analysis in lung cancer patients through meta-analysis. METHOD: Related literature retrieved from Cochrane Library, Ovid, Embase, PubMed, the CNKI, and the Web of Science. The latest update of the search was May 1, 2023. The outcome indicators included as effective measures in the study were hazard ratio (HR), and 95% confidence interval (CI). The Stata 12.0 software was used to analyze the data. RESULTS: A total of4 studies were finally enrolled in our meta-analysis. The increased plasma level of CRABP2 predicted poor OS in lung cancer patient with a combined HR of 1.14 (95% CI: 1.00-1.30), and were not associated with poor PFS with combined HR: 1.15% CI: 0.63-2.09) in lung cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS: Our meta-analysis found the increased plasma level of CRABP2 was associated with poor OS independently in NSCLC patients. The plasma CRABP2 level may be an indicator of biological aggressiveness of the tumor. Our research was promising regarding the feasibility and utility of plasma CRABP2 as a novel prognostic biomarker in NSCLC, and the findings warrant further investigation.

RESUMO

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a common malignant kidney tumor; however, gastric metastasis is rare. We report the case of an 82-year-old male patient who developed gastric metastasis 12 years after an initial diagnosis of RCC. The patient underwent endoscopic full-thickness resection (EFTR), and the gastric metastatic focus was successfully removed. Postoperative pathology and immunohistochemistry showed that the gastric metastasis originated from RCC. Although gastric metastasis of RCC is rare, it should be suspected in patients with a history of RCC or gastrointestinal symptoms. EFTR is associated with reduced trauma and greater retention of gastric tissue and function. It is a more appropriate choice than surgical resection; however, it requires more endoscopists.

With the fast development of large-scale Photovoltaic (PV) plants, the automatic PV fault identification and positioning have become an important task for the PV intelligent systems, aiming to guarantee the safety, reliability, and productivity of large-scale PV plants. In this paper, we propose a residual learning-based robotic (UAV) image analysis model for low-voltage distributed PV fault identification and positioning. In our target scenario, the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are deployed to acquire moving images of low-voltage distributed PV power plants. To get desired robustness and accuracy of PV image detection, we integrate residual learning with attention mechanism into the UAV image analysis model based on you only look once v4 (YOLOv4) network. Then, we design the sophisticated multi-scale spatial pyramid fusion and use it to optimize the YOLOv4 network for the nuanced task of fault localization within PV arrays, where the Complete-IOU loss is incorporated in the predictive modeling phase, significantly enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of fault detection. A series of experimental comparisons in terms of the accuracy of fault positioning are conducted, and the experimental results verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed model in dealing with the safety and reliability maintenance of low-voltage distributed PV systems.

BACKGROUND: The discovery of antimicrobial ingredients from natural products could be an effective way to create novel fungicides. Rubia cordifolia L., a traditional Chinese herb, may have antimicrobial effects on plant pathogens according to our previous screening study. RESULTS: Rubia cordifolia L. extracts had moderate inhibitory effects on apple Valsa canker (Valsa mali) and tomato grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) at a concentration of 10 mg mL-1. With the use of bioguided isolation methods, eight compounds (1-8) were obtained, including the new compound 2,2,6-trimethyl-6-(4-methylphenyl)-tetrahydropyrano- 3-ol (7), and seven quinone derivatives. Two compounds, mollugin (1) and 1,3,6-trihydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone (6), were found to exhibit outstanding antifungal activities against V. mali and Phytophthora capsici Leon. The half maximal effective concentration (EC50) of compound 1 and compound 6 against V. mali were 79.08 and 81.78 µg mL-1, respectively, and the EC50 of compound 6 against P. capsici was 4.86 µg mL-1. Compound 1 also showed excellent activity against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). The inactive, inductive, protective and curative activities against TMV were 84.29%, 83.38%, 86.81%, and 60.02%, respectively, at a concentration of 500 µg mL-1, which were all close to or greater than that of the positive control (100 µg mL-1 chitosan oligosaccharide, COS). CONCLUSION: Mollugin and 1,3,6-trihydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone are potentially valuable active compounds that lay a foundation for research on botanical fungicide products derived from R. cordifolia L. and provide lead structures for quinone derivative synthesis and structural modification. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry.

Resin-bonded restorations are the most important caries treatment method in clinical practice. Thus, improving the durability of dentin bonding remains a pressing issue. As a promising solution, guided tissue remineralization can induce the formation of apatite nanocrystals to repair defects in the dentin bonding interface. In this study, we present an experimental 20 wt % citric acid (CA) dental etching agent that removes the smear layer. After CA-etching, approximately 3.55 wt % residual CA formed a strong bond with collagen fibrils, reducing the interfacial energy between the remineralizing solution and dentin. CA helped achieve almost complete intrafibrillar and extrafibrillar mineralization after 24 h of mineralization. CA also significantly promoted poly(amidoamine)-induced dentin biomimetic mineralization. The elastic modulus and microhardness of remineralized dentin were restored to that of sound dentin. The remineralized interface reduced microleakage and provided a stronger, longer-lasting bond than conventional phosphate acid-etching. The newly developed CA dental etching agents promoted rapid dentin biomimetic mineralization and improved bonding efficacy through interfacial control, representing a new approach with clinical practice implications.

Utilizing online gradient pressure liquid extraction (OGPLE) coupled with a high-performance liquid chromatography antioxidant analysis system, we examined the antioxidative active components present in both the aerial parts and roots of dandelion. By optimizing the chromatographic conditions, we identified the ferric reducing-antioxidant power system as the most suitable for online antioxidant reactions in dandelion. Compared to offline ultrasonic extraction, the OGPLE method demonstrated superior efficiency in extracting chemical components with varying polarities from the samples. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry revealed twelve compounds within the dandelion samples, with nine demonstrating considerable antioxidant efficacy. Of these, the aerial parts and roots of dandelion contained nine and four antioxidant constituents, respectively. Additionally, molecular docking studies were carried out to investigate the interaction between these nine antioxidants and four proteins associated with oxidative stress (glutathione peroxidase, inducible nitric oxide synthase, superoxide dismutase, and xanthine oxidase). The nine antioxidant compounds displayed notable binding affinities below -5.0 kcal/mol with the selected proteins, suggesting potential receptor-ligand interactions. These findings contribute to enhancing our understanding of dandelion and provide a comprehensive methodology for screening the natural antioxidant components from herbs.

Background: To determine the factors in posterior ligamentous complex indicating lumbar instability in patients diagnosed with degenerative spondylolisthesis on conventional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed patients who underwent PLIF surgery for degenerative spondylolisthesis at our institution between 2018 and 2020 and who had complete eligible preoperative imaging data for review and study, including lumbar MRI and anteroposterior and flexion-extension radiographs. Results: Fifty-three patients were confirmed to have lumbar instability (Unstable Group, 44%), while sixty-seven patients (Stable Group, 56%) did not have instability on radiographs. The patients in the stable group had more advanced status of the degeneration of intervertebral disc than in the unstable group (p<0.05). The degeneration of supraspinous ligament (SSL) was more severe in the unstable group (p<0.05). Compared with the patients with rotatory instability, advanced degeneration of interspinous ligament (ISL) and SSL was observed in patients with translatory instability (p<0.05). However, there was no significant difference with regard to the height of the spinous process and the interspinous distance in patients with or without instability. Conclusion: This MRI analysis showed that abnormal segmental motion is closely associated with the pathological characteristics of supraspinal ligament. Advanced degeneration of SSL in patients with degenerative spondylolisthesis should raise the suspicion for lumbar instability and additional evaluations. The status of ISL and ligamentum flavum (LF) may not be helpful for the diagnosis of lumbar instability. Functional radiographs combined with MRI may provide valuable information when diagnosing lumbar instability in patients with mechanical back pain.

Objectives: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is a common autoimmune disease whose etiology involves a complex interplay between genetics and environment. Previous studies have demonstrated an association between immune cells and HT. However, the casual relationship was not clear. We aimed to explore the causal associations between signatures of immune cells and HT. Methods: In this study, bidirectional two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted to investigate the potential causal relationship between 731 immune cell signatures and HT by using genome-wide association study (GWAS) data. Heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy were detected through extensive sensitivity analyses. Results: The increased levels of six immune phenotypes were observed to be causally associated with increased risk of HT P < 0.01, which were CD3 on CM CD8br, CD3 on CD39+ secreting Treg, HLA DR on CD33dim HLA DR+ CD11b-, CD3 on CD4 Treg, CD62L- plasmacytoid DC %DC, and CD3 on CD45RA+ CD4+. In addition, the levels of FSC-A on HLA DR+ T cell and CD62L on monocyte were associated with disease risk of HT P < 0.01. In addition, HT also had causal effects on CD3 on CM CD8br, CCR2 on monocyte, CD25 on CD39+ resting Treg, and CCR2 on CD62L+ myeloid DC P < 0.05. Conclusions: In this study, we demonstrated the genetic connection between immune cell traits and HT, thereby providing guidance and direction for future treatment and clinical research.

Simulation of synaptic characteristics is essential for the application of organic field effect transistors (OFETs) in neural morphology. Although excellent performance, including bias stability and mobility, as well as photoelectric pulse synaptic simulation, has been achieved in SiO2-gated OFETs with PDVT-10 as an organic channel, there are relatively few studies on photoelectric pulse synaptic simulation of electrolyte-gated OFETs based on environmentally friendly and low-voltage operation. Herein, synaptic transistors based on organic semiconductors are reported to simulate the photoelectric pulse response by developing solution-based organic semiconductor PDVT-10, and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) with an electric double layer (EDL) effect to act as a channel and gate dielectric layer, respectively, and organic lithium salt-doped PVA is used to enhance the EDL effect. The presence of electrical pulses in doped devices not only achieves basic electrical synaptic characteristics, but also significantly realizes the long-term characteristics, pain perception, memory and sensitization applications. Furthermore, the introduction of photoinitiator molecules into the channel layer leads to improved photosynaptic performances by using light-induced free radicals, and the photoelectric synergistic effect has been actualized by introducing heterojunction architecture. This work provides promising prospects for achieving photoelectric pulse modulation based on organic synaptic devices, which shows great potential for the development of artificial intelligence.

Sweet tea is a functional herbal tea with anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, and other effects, in which phloridzin and trilobatin are two functional compounds. However, the current methods for their quantification are time-consuming, costly, and environmentally unfriendly. In this paper, we propose a rapid method that integrates online pressurized liquid extraction and high-performance liquid chromatography featuring a superficially porous column for fast separation. Moreover, we employ an equal absorption wavelength method to eliminate using multiple standard solutions and relative calibration factors. Our verification process corroborated the technique's selectivity, accuracy, precision, linearity, and detection limitations. Separately, our methodology demonstrated excellent analytical efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental friendliness. Practical application using six distinct batches of sweet tea samples yielded results in congruence with the external standard method. The analytical rate of this technique is up to over 18 times faster than traditional methods, and organic solvent consumption has been reduced to less than 1.5 mL. Therefore, this method provides a valuable way to achieve quality control and green analysis of sweet tea and other herbal teas.

Background: Multiple evidence suggests that thyroid function is associated with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), but whether thyroid function is causally related to PCOS is unclear. To investigate whether the association reflect causality, a Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted. Methods: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) involved in this study were acquired from The ThyroidOmics Consortium and the IEU Open Genome-wide association study (GWAS) database, respectively. In forward MR analysis, we included normal free thyroxine (FT4, n=49,269), normal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH, n=54,288), hypothyroidism (n=53,423) and hyperthyroidism (n=51,823) as exposure. The outcome was defined as PCOS in a sample size of 16,380,318 individuals. The exposure in the reverse MR analyses was chosen as PCOS, while the outcome consisted of the four phenotypes of thyroid function. The inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method was performed as the major analysis, supplemented by sensitivity analyses. Results: The occurrence of PCOS was associated with increased risk of hyperthyroidism (IVW, OR=1.08, 95%CI=1.02-1.13, P=0.004). No evidence suggested that other phenotypes of thyroid function were related to PCOS. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate a cause-and-effect connection between PCOS and hyperthyroidism. The study established foundation for further investigation for interaction between thyroid function and PCOS.

Particulate matter of size ≤ 2.5 µm (PM2.5) is a critical environmental threat that considerably contributes to the global disease burden. However, accompanied by the rapid research progress in this field, the existing research on developmental toxicity is still constrained by limited data sources, varying quality, and insufficient in-depth mechanistic analysis. This review includes the currently available epidemiological and laboratory evidence and comprehensively characterizes the adverse effects of PM2.5 on developing individuals in different regions and various pollution sources. In addition, this review explores the effect of PM2.5 exposure to individuals of different ethnicities, genders, and socioeconomic levels on adverse birth outcomes and cardiopulmonary and neurological development. Furthermore, the molecular mechanisms involved in the adverse health effects of PM2.5 primarily encompass transcriptional and translational regulation, oxidative stress, inflammatory response, and epigenetic modulation. The primary findings and novel perspectives regarding the association between public health and PM2.5 were examined, highlighting the need for future studies to explore its sources, composition, and sex-specific effects. Additionally, further research is required to delve deeper into the more intricate underlying mechanisms to effectively prevent or mitigate the harmful effects of air pollution on human health.

BACKGROUND: To identify the differences of lumbar lordosis (LL) and sacral slope (SS) angles between two types of postoperative lumbar disc re-herniation, including the recurrence of same level and adjacent segment herniation (ASH). METHODS: We searched the medical records of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) patients with re-herniation with complete imaging data (n = 58) from January 1, 2013 to December 30, 2020 in our hospital. After matching for age and sex, 58 patients with LDH without re-herniation from the same period operated by the same treatment group in our hospital were served as a control group. Re-herniation patients were divided into two groups, same-level recurrent lumbar disc herniation group (rLDHG) and adjacent segment herniation group with or without recurrence (ASHG). The preoperative, postoperative and one month after operation LL and SS were measured on standing radiographs and compared with the control group by using t-test, ANOVA, and rank-sum test. Next, we calculated the odds ratios (ORs) by unconditional logistic regression, progressively adjusted for other confounding factors. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the postoperative LL and SS were significantly lower in LDH patients with re-herniation. However, there were no differences in LL and SS between ASHG and rLDHG at any stage. After progressive adjustment for confounding factors, no matter what stage is, LL and SS remained unassociated with the two types of re-herniation. CONCLUSIONS: Low postoperative LL and SS angles are associated with degeneration of the remaining disc. Low LL and SS may be independent risk factors for re-herniation but cannot determine type of recurrence (same or adjacent disc level).

Livestock manure is one of the most important pools of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) in the environment. Aerobic composting can effectively reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance risk in livestock manure. Understanding the effect of aerobic composting process parameters on manure-sourced ARGs is important to control their spreading risk. In this study, the effects of process parameters on ARGs during aerobic composting of pig manure were explored through data mining based on 191 valid data collected from literature. Machine learning (ML) models (XGBoost and Random Forest) were utilized to predict the rate of ARGs changes during pig manure composting. The model evaluation index of the XGBoost model (R2 = 0.651) was higher than that of the Random Forest (R2 = 0.490), indicating that XGBoost had better prediction performance. Feature importance was further calculated for the XGBoost model, and the XGBoost black box model was interpreted by Shapley additive explanations analysis. Results indicated that the influencing factors on the ARGs variation in pig manure were sequentially divided into thermophilic period, total composting period, composting real time, and thermophilic stage average temperature. The findings gave an insight into the application of ML models to predict and decipher the ARG changes during manure composting and provided suggestions for better composting manipulation and optimization of process parameters.
