BACKGROUND: Patients with oral cancer usually experience disfigurement and dysfunction which are shared risk factors of suicide. The aim of the study was to comprehensively assess the characteristics of suicide and risk factors for suicide in patients with oral cancer. METHODS: Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database was used to acquire information of patients with common malignant tumors including oral cancer from 1975 to 2020. The aim was to explore the incidence of suicide, and timing of suicide among patients with oral cancer. A Fine-Gray competing risks regression model was employed to analyze risk factors associated with suicide among patients with various demographic and tumor characteristics. RESULTS: Totally, 7685 patients with different malignant tumors committed suicide. Among them, 203 patients with oral cancer died due to suicide, presenting a suicide rate of 54.5/100,000 person-years, which was almost 3.5 times that of the US general population and 1.5 times that of the overall US patients with cancer in our study. Approximately 18 %, 40 %, and 55 % of suicides occurred in first year, first 3 years, and first 5 years after diagnosis. Being male, White race, and having a single primary tumor might be regarded as the risk factors for suicide. CONCLUSION: As oral cavity is closely associated with appearance, pronunciation and ingestion, patients with oral cancer have a significant high risk of suicide. Tremendous attention needs to be paid to patients with oral cancer particularly those exhibiting characteristics associated with a high risk of suicide.

Cuproptosis, a copper-dependent programmed cell death process, holds promise for controlling cell death in tumor cells. Autophagy, a fundamental cellular process, has been linked to various aspects of cancer, such as proliferation, migration, and drug resistance. This research is centered on the investigation of autophagy- and cuproptosis-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and the establishment of a prognostic model for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. RNA sequencing data from head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients in The Cancer Genome Atlas database identified cuproptosis-related lncRNAs via Pearson analysis. Patients were divided into training and testing sets. A prognostic model developed in the training set using univariate-least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (Lasso) and multivariate Cox regression was tested for accuracy. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed high-risk patients had poorer outcomes. Cox regression confirmed the model's risk score as an independent prognostic indicator, with receiver operating characteristic and decision curve analyses validating its predictive accuracy. Thirteen lncRNAs associated with autophagy and cuproptosis were identified through bioinformatics analysis. Lasso regression narrowed this to 3 significant prognostic lncRNAs. Based on median risk scores, patients were classified into high-risk and low-risk groups. Kaplan-Meier survival curves revealed significant differences between these groups (P < .01). Through a set of bioinformatics analyses, we identified 13 autophagy- and cuproptosis-related lncRNAs. By Lasso regression, 3 prognostic-related lncRNAs were further selected. We also investigated these 3 lncRNAs in relation to clinicopathologic features. The principal component analysis visually showed differences between the high-risk and low-risk groups.

Mechanoluminescence (ML) phosphors have found various promising utilizations such as in non-destructive stress sensing, anti-counterfeiting, and bio stress imaging. However, the reported NIR MLs have predominantly been limited to bulky particle size and weak ML intensity, hindering the further practical applications. For this regard, a nano-sized ZnGa2O4: Cr3+ NIR ML phosphor is synthesized by hydrothermal method. By improving the synthesis method and regulating the chemical composition, the NIR ML (600-1000 nm) intensity of such nano-materials has been further enhanced about four times. The reasons for the ML performance difference between micro-/nano- sized phosphors also have been preliminarily analyzed. Additionally, this work probes into the ML mechanism deeply in traps' aspect from band structure and defect formation energy, which can supply significant references for a new approach to develop efficient NIR ML nanoparticles. Finally, due to excellent tissue penetration capability, nano-sized ZnGa2O4:Cr3+ NIR ML phosphor shows great potential applications in biomedical fields such as for the detection of clinical oral diseases.

The poor implant-osseointegration under diabetic condition remains a challenge to be addressed urgently. Studies have confirmed that the diabetic pathological microenvironment is accompanied by excessive oxidative stress, imbalanced immune homeostasis, and persistent chronic inflammation, which seriously impairs the osteogenic process. Herein, a multifunctional bioactive interface with both anti-oxidative stress and immunomodulatory properties is constructed on titanium implants. Briefly, manganese dioxide nanosheets are coated onto mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles loaded with carbon monoxide gas precursor, namely MnO2-CO@MPDA NPs, and then they are integrated on the titanium implant to obtain MCM-Ti. In the simulated diabetic microenvironment, under the action of MnO2 nanoenzymes, MCM-Ti can effectively eliminate intracellular reactive oxygen species while alleviating hypoxic state. Interestingly, the microenvironment mediates the responsive release of CO gas, which effectively drives macrophages toward M2 polarization, thereby ameliorating inflammatory response. The potential mechanism is that CO gas up-regulates the expression of heme oxygenase-1, further activating the Notch/Hes1/Stat3 signaling pathway. Furthermore, the conditioned medium derived from macrophages on MCM-Ti surface significantly enhances the osteogenic differentiation of BMSCs. In a type 2 diabetic rat model, MCM-Ti implant effectively alleviates the accompanying inflammation and enhances the osseointegration through the synergistic effects of resisting oxidative stress and remodeling immune homeostasis.

Xanthomonas species are specialized plant pathogens, often exhibiting a narrow host range. They rely on the translocation of effector proteins through the type III secretion system to colonize their respective hosts. The effector arsenal varies among Xanthomonas spp., typically displaying species-specific compositions. This species-specific effector composition, collectively termed the effectorome, is thought to influence host specialization. We determined the plant host-derived effectoromes of more than 300 deposited genomes of Xanthomonas species associated with either Solanaceae or Brassicaceae hosts. Comparative analyses revealed clear species-specific effectorome signatures. However, Solanaceae or Brassicaceae host-associated effectorome signatures were not detected. Nevertheless, host biases in the presence or absence of specific effector classes were observed. To assess whether host-associated effector absence results from selective pressures, we introduced effectors unique to Solanaceae pathogens to Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), and effectors unique to Brassicaceae pathogens to Xanthomonas euvesicatoria pv. euvesicatoria (Xeue), and evaluated if these introductions hindered virulence on their respective hosts. Introducing the effector XopI into Xcc reduced virulence on white cabbage leaves without affecting localized or systemic colonization. Introducing the XopAC or XopJ5 effectors into Xeue reduced virulence and colonization on tomato but not on pepper. Additionally, XopAC and XopJ5 induced a hypersensitive response on tomato leaves when delivered by Xeue or through Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression, confirming recognition in tomato. This study demonstrates the role of host-derived selection in establishing species-specific effectoromes, identifying XopAC and XopJ5 as recognized effectors in tomato.

BACKGROUND: Selection markers are useful in genetic modification of yeast Pichia pastoris. However, the leakage of the promoter caused undesired expression of selection markers especially those toxic proteins like MazF, halting the cell growth and hampering the genetic manipulation in procaryotic system. In this study, a new counter-selectable marker-based strategy has been established for seamless modification with high efficiency and low toxicity. RESULTS: At first, the leaky expression of the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) as a reporter gene under the control of six inducible promoters of P. pastoris was investigated in two hosts Escherichia coli and P. pastoris, respectively. The results demonstrated that the DAS1 and FDH1 promoters (PDAS1 and PFDH1) had the highest leakage expression activities in procaryotes and eukaryotes, and the DAS2 promoter (PDAS2) was inducible with medium strength but low leakage expression activity, all of which were selected for further investigation. Next, Mirabilis antiviral proteins (MAPs) c21873-1, c21873-1T (truncated form of c21873-1) and c23467 were mined as the new counter-selectable markers, and hygromycin B (Hyg B) resistance gene was used as the positive-selectable marker, respectively. Then, modular plasmids with MAP-target gene-Hyg B cassettes were constructed and used to transform into P. pastoris cells after linearization, and the target genes were integrated into its genome at the BmT1 locus through single-crossover homologous recombination (HR). After counter-selection induced by methanol medium, the markers c21873-1 and c21873-1T were recycled efficiently. But c23467 failed to be recycled due to its toxic effect on the P. pastoris cells. At last, the counter-selectable marker c21873-1 under the tightly regulated PDAS2 enabled the encoding genes of reporter EGFP and tested proteins to be integrated into the target locus and expressed successfully. CONCLUSIONS: We have developed MAP c21873-1 as a novel counter-selectable marker which could perform efficient gene knock-in by site-directed HR. Upon counter-selection, the marker could be recycled for repeated use, and no undesirable sequences were introduced except for the target gene. This unmarked genetic modification strategy may be extended to other genetic modification including but not limited to gene knock-out and site-directed mutagenesis in future.

BACKGROUND: Drug-coated balloon (DCB) angioplasty and drug-eluting stents (DES) are two widely used treatments for in-stent restenosis (ISR). Focal and non-focal types of ISR affect the clinical outcomes. The present study aims to compare DES reimplantation versus DCB angioplasty in acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients with focal ISR and non-focal ISR lesions. METHODS: Patients with ISR lesions underwent percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) were retrospectively evaluated and divided into DES group and DCB group. The primary endpoint was the incidence of target lesion failure (TLF) at 24 months follow up. Propensity score matching (PSM) was conducted to balance the baseline characteristics. RESULTS: For focal ISR, TLF was comparable in the DES and DCB groups at 24 months of follow-up (Before PSM, hazard ratio [HR]: 0.70; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.39-1.27; p = 0.244; After PSM, HR: 0.83; 95% CI: 0.40-1.73; p = 0.625). For non-focal ISR, TLF was significantly decreased in DES compared with DCB group (Before PSM, HR: 0.43; 95% CI: 0.29-0.63; p < 0.001; After PSM, HR: 0.33; 95% CI: 0.19-0.59; p < 0.001), which was mainly attributed to the lower incidence of clinically indicated target lesion revascularization (CD-TLR) (Before PSM, HR: 0.39; 95% CI: 0.26-0.59; p < 0.001; After PSM, HR: 0.28; 95% CI: 0.15-0.54; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: The clinical outcomes for DES and DCB treatment are similar in focal type of ISR lesions. For non-focal ISR, the treatment of DES showed a significant decrease in TLF which was mainly attributed to a lower incidence of CD-TLR.

High voltage/high temperature operation aggravates the risk of capacity attenuation and thermal runaway of layered oxide cathodes due to crystal degradation and interfacial instability. A combined strategy of bulk regulation and surface chemistry design is crucial to handle these issues. Here, we present a simultaneous Li2WO4-coated and gradient W-doped 0.98LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2·0.02Li2WO4 cathode through modulating the content of the exotic dopant and stoichiometric lithium salt during lithiation calcination. Benefiting from the slightly Li-enriched chemistry induced by the hetero-epitaxially grown Li2WO4 surface, the 0.98LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2·0.02Li2WO4 cathode demonstrates superior electrochemical performance to W-doped LiNi0.49Mn0.49W0.02O2 and WO3 coated 0.98LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2·0.02WO3 cathodes without a Li-enriched phase. Specifically, when cycled in the potential range of 2.7-4.5 V at 30 °C, the 0.98LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2·0.02Li2WO4 cathode possesses a high discharge capacity of 199.2 and 156.5 mA h g-1 at 0.1 and 5C and a capacity retention of 92.88% after 300 cycles at 1C. Even at a high cut-off voltage of 4.6 V, it still retains a capacity retention of 91.15% after 200 cycles at 1C and 30 °C. Compared with LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2, the enhanced performance of 0.98LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2·0.02Li2WO4 can be attributed to its robust bulk and stable interface, inhibited lattice oxygen release, and improved Li+ transport kinetics. Our work emphasizes the significance of the slightly Li-enriched chemistry and bulk modulation strategy in stabilizing cathodes and hence unlocks vast possibilities for future cathode design.

Recently, renewable bio-based materials have received more and more attention due to environmental issues such as global warming and ecosystem destruction. In the present work, a series of isosorbide-based bioelastomers poly(isosorbide carbonate-co-butanediol aliphatic esters)s (PICBAs) are synthesized by a facile and economical two-step melt polycondensation. Due to the slightly self-crosslinking reaction of isosorbide, PICBAs exhibit excellent tensile strength and self-healing ability, the mechanical properties of PICBAs can recover over 95% after 48 h under room temperature. In addition, PICBAs can stick different substances, such as glass, rubber, plastic, and stones, and show better adhesive performance than 3M commercially available double-sided tape. Consequently, isosorbide-based bioelastomers PICBAs are of great potential to be used as environmentally friendly pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSA) in the future.

Long pulse thermography (LPT) and shearography have been developed as primary methods for detecting debonding or delamination defects in composites due to their full-field imaging, non-contact operation, and high detection efficiency. Both methods utilize halogen lamps as the excitation source for thermal loading. However, the defects detected by the two techniques differ due to their distinct inspection mechanisms. In this study, LPT and shearography are employed to evaluate internal damage in various composite structures. The experimental results demonstrate that LPT, when combined with thermal signal processing algorithms, can clearly detect debonding defects in rubber-to-metal bonded plates, whereas excessive adhesive defects can only be identified by shearography. Flat-bottom holes in the CFRP panel can only be detected by LPT, and shearography is particularly effective for detecting composite materials with a metal skin. For the quantitative measurement of defect sizes, the average errors of the rubber-to-metal bonded plate and CFRP panel using LPT are 4.9 % and 2.2 %, respectively, whereas the average errors of the rubber-to-metal bonded plate and aluminum honeycomb panel using shearography are 15.12 % and 95.4 %, respectively. This indicates that LPT is superior to shearography in quantitatively measuring defect sizes. These two nondestructive testing methods, based on different principles, each have their own advantages and disadvantages. Employing a multi-modal inspection method can leverage their complementary advantages, preventing misdetection and leakage of internal defects in composites.

Attachment in emerging adults is closely intertwined with emotion regulation, stress coping, and social bonding during the transition from childhood to early adulthood. Due to the critical roles of serotonin in these mental functions, this research explored whether the cumulative genetic effects of serotonergic polymorphisms are associated with individual differences and contextual variations in attachment dimensions over time in emerging adults. Study 1 utilized a cross-sectional design in college students (N = 1088, mean age = 22.71 ± 2.86 years). The results showed significant correlations between a higher cumulative genetic score and elevated levels of attachment anxiety and avoidance. Study 2 employed a three-wave longitudinal design in a cohort of freshmen (N = 523, mean age = 19.54 ± 1.86 years at wave 1). The results demonstrated that a higher genetic score was associated with both higher levels and greater variability in attachment dimensions compared to a lower genetic score. These findings suggest that the cumulative genetic effects of serotonergic polymorphisms contribute to individual differences and dynamic processes in attachment dimensions in emerging adults.

We have experimentally validated the use of sensorless adaptive optics (AO) to enhance laser scanning confocal microscopy in the second near-infrared (NIR II) spectral range, termed as AO-NIR II confocal microscopy. This approach harnesses a NIR II fluorophore, excited by an 808 nm wavelength and emitting beyond 1000 nm, to visualize intricate structures in deep brain tissues with the intact skull. By leveraging the reduced scattering and aberrations in the NIR II spectrum, we successfully captured a three-dimensional (3D) vascular structure map extending 310 µm beneath the skull. AO typically boosts the fluorescence signal by approximately 2-3 times, leading to a superior contrast and diminished smearing effects. Consequently, small blood vessels at various depths can be clearly visualized, which might otherwise remain undetectable without AO corrections.

BACKGROUND: Studies have shown an association between the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index and carotid artery plaque (CAP). However, the relationship between the TyG index and plaque burden in individuals with primary hypertension remains uncertain. Our study specifically aimed to explore this relationship among primary hypertension patients. METHODS: This study involved 5,153 hospitalized patients diagnosed with primary hypertension who were undergoing treatment at the Affiliated Hospital of Jiangxi University of Chinese Medicine. We utilized multivariate logistic regression, penalized spline regression, and generalized additive models to assess the association between the TyG index and CAP burden. RESULTS: There were 2,400 patients with primary hypertension in all. The multivariate study, which took into account all covariables, showed a positive correlation between the TyG index and CAP (OR: 1.25, 95% CI: 1.04-1.5). When the TyG index was evaluated as quartiles, the risk of CAP in the Q3 and Q4 levels of the TyG index were 1.4 (95% CI: 1.03-1.91) and 1.54 (95% CI: 1.11-2.14) times greater than in the Q1 level after adjusting for all covariables (P for trend < .05). Regardless of whether the TyG index was used as a continuous variable or a categorical variable, it has no significant association with the risk of single plaque after adjusting for all confounders (p ≥ .05). The TyG index was found to be substantially correlated with the presence of multiple plaques when analyzed as a continuous variable (OR: 1.32, 95% CI: 1.09-1.59, p = .004). When the TyG index was evaluated as quartiles, the adjusted OR in Q3 and Q4 were 1.49 (95% CI: 1.06-2.1) and 1.67 (95% CI: 1.16-2.41), respectively, with Q1 as reference (P for trend = .005). The relationship between the TyG index and the presence of multiple plaques is also consistent in all subgroups. CONCLUSION: The TyG index is positively associated with the presence of multiple plaques in patients with primary hypertension, whereas no association is found between the TyG index and the presence of a single carotid plaque.

BACKGROUND: Currently, neck dissection is a standard treatment for the majority of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients. However, the procedure can lead to a series of complications, significantly reducing patient quality of life and even affecting the antitumor immune response in patients undergoing immunotherapy. Therefore, in the era of precision surgery, gaining a deeper understanding of the patterns of lymph node metastasis (LNM) in OSCC is crucial. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Literature searches were performed on PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, WANFANGDATA and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) (inception to April 10, 2024). In addition, a manual searching was conducted in Scopus, Google Scholar, and Education Resources Information Center (ERIC). We included observational studies that evaluated the frequency of LNM in OSCC patients. Systematic review and a random effects model meta-analysis were performed. RESULTS: The search identified 4694 articles, of which 17 studies included in our study. We calculated the frequency of LNM according to the data reported in the articles. Frequency of LNM=number of patients with positive lymph node / number of patients with OSCC. The frequency of LNM was 12% in level I (95%CI: 0.11 to 0.15, I2=38.01%), 20% in level II (95%CI: 0.17 to 0.22, I2=47.71%), 10% in level III (95%CI: 0.08 to 0.12, I2=49.10%), 2% in level VI (95%CI: 0.01 to 0.03, I2=27.58%), 1% in level V (95%CI: 0.00 to 0.01, I2=11.37%). CONCLUSION: The frequency of LNM is consistent with the "cascade theory" and appears to be no significant difference from different primary sites. The frequency of LNM were low in levels I-III and were very low in level IV-V which implicated that more conservative treatments may be considered for OSCC in the future. This study will help clinicians better determine the extent of surgery and preserve lymph nodes during neck dissection.

High-voltage LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4 (LNMO) is one of the most promising cathode candidates for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) but suffers from deteriorated cycling stability due to severe interfacial side reactions and manganese dissolution. Herein, a micro-nano porous spherical LNMO cathode was designed for high-performance LIBs. The disordered structure and the preferred exposure of the {111} facets can be controlled by the release of lattice oxygen in the high-temperature calcination process. The unique configuration of this material could enhance the structural stability and play a crucial role in inhibiting manganese dissolution, promoting the rapid transport of Li+, and reducing the volume strain during the charge/discharge process. The designed cathode exhibits a remarkable discharge capacity of 136.7 mA h g-1 at 0.5C, corresponding to an energy density of up to 636.4 W h kg-1, unprecedented cycling stability (capacity retention of 90.6% after 500 cycles) and superior rate capability (78.9% of initial capacity at 10C). The structurally controllable preparation strategy demonstrated in this work provides new insights into the structural design of cathode materials for LIBs.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the link between the triglyceride-to-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol ratio (TG/HDL-C) and the occurrence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched for cohort and case-control studies that reported on the link between TG/HDL-C and a risk of T2DM, with no restrictions on criteria used for the definition and categorization of low and high TG/HDL-C ratios. RESULTS: A total of 20 studies were included. There was considerable variability in terms of categorization of low or normal and higher TG/HDL-C ratio among the studies. Patients with high TG/HDL-C ratio had markedly higher risk of developing T2DM compared with patients with low or normal TG/HDL-C. Each unit increase in the ratio correlated with the increased risk of diabetes. Subgroup analysis based on sex showed an increased risk of T2DM in males and females with a high ratio compared with the group with a low/normal ratio. CONCLUSION: Higher TG/HDL-C ratio correlates with increased risk of T2DM. Despite limitations, the study demonstrates a possible value of using TG/HDL-C ratio as a biomarker for diabetes risk.

The overuse of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) poses many serious environmental and food safety concerns. Development of effective and sensitive sample pretreatment method for monitoring trace NSAIDs from complex samples is of great significance. Depending on the ionic and aromatic structures of NSAIDs, a cationic microporous organic network (MON) named TEPM-BBDC with large specific surface area, good solvent and thermal stabilities, and numerous interaction sites was designed and prepared for efficient solid-phase extraction (SPE) of four typical NSAIDs (flurbiprofen, ketoprofen, naproxen, and diclofenac sodium) from environmental water and milk samples. By anchoring the ionic groups in the conjugated MON frameworks, the prepared TEPM-BBDC offered good extraction for NSAIDs based on the π-π, hydrophobic, ion exchange, and electrostatic interactions. Under the optimal extraction conditions (initial concentration of each NSAID: 200 g L-1; sample volume: 50 mL; desorption solvent: 1.5 mL of MeOH + 1 % NH3·H2O; sample loading rate: 5 mL min-1; NaCl concentration: 0 mmol L-1; pH = 5), the proposed TEPM-BBDC-SPE-HPLC-UV method owned wide linear range (0.50-1000 g L-1), low limits of detection (0.10-0.40 g L-1), large enrichment factors (92.2-99.2), good precisions (intra-day and inter-day, RSD% = 1.3-7.8 %, n = 6) and reproducibility (column-to-column, RSD% = 8.0 %, n = 3). The developed method also exhibited good recoveries (83.6-113.4 %) for the determination of NSAIDs in river water, lake water and milk samples. This work not only revealed the potential of TEPM-BBDC for SPE of ionic NSAIDs in complex samples, but also highlighted the prospect of ionic MONs in sample pretreatment.

The association between vitamin A and single cardiometabolic diseases has been extensively studied, but the relationship between dietary vitamin A intake and the risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) has not been studied. Therefore, the present study was conducted to explore the association with CMM risk by analyzing different sources of vitamin A. This study utilized 13,603 subjects aged ≥ 18 years from 1997 to 2015 from the China Health and Nutrition Survey (CHNS). Dietary intake was calculated from 3 consecutive 24-h dietary recalls combined with a house hold food inventory. CMM is defined as the development of at least two cardiometabolic diseases. After a median follow-up of 9.0 years, there were 1050 new cases of CMM. The risk of CMM was significantly lower in those with higher vitamin A intake (Q1 vs Q5 HR 0.66, 95% CI 0.54-0.81). ß-carotene (Q1 vs Q5 HR 0.82, 95% CI 0.66-1.02) and retinol (Q1 vs Q5 HR 0.59, 95% CI 0.48-0.73) intake had a similarly negative correlation. Using restricted cubic spline found an L-shaped relationship between retinol intake and CMM (p non-linear < 0.001). Negative associations were also found in specific CMD groups (hypertension, cardiovascular disease, stroke and diabetes). Dietary intake of vitamin A was negatively associated with CMM risk, and this protective effect was more pronounced in patients with cardiovascular disease. There was an L-shaped association between retinol intake and CMM risk.

Manganese dioxide (MnO2) nanosheets possess unique physical and chemical properties, making them widely applicable in various fields, such as chemistry and biomedicine. Although MnO2 nanosheets are produced using bottom-up wet chemistry synthesis methods, their scale is below the gram level and requires a long processing time, restricting their effective scale-up from laboratory to market. We report a facile, green and scalable synthesis of MnO2 nanosheets by mixing Shiranui mandarin orange juice and KMnO4 for 30 minutes. We produced more than one gram (1.095) of MnO2 nanosheets with a 0.65 nm mean thickness and a 50 nm mean lateral size. Furthermore, we established a visual colorimetric biosensing strategy based on MnO2 nanosheets for the assay of glutathione (GSH) and cardiac troponin I (cTnI), offering high sensitivity and feasibility in clinical samples. For GSH, the limit of detection was 0.08 nM, and for cTnI, it was 0.70 pg mL-1. Meanwhile, the strategy can be used for real-time analysis by applying a smartphone-enabled biosensing strategy, which can provide point-of-care testing in remote areas.
