RESUMO

The effect of external magnetic fields on the behavior of the Zhang-Rice exciton in NiPS3, which captures the physics of spin-orbital entanglement in 2D XY-type antiferromagnets, remains unclear. This study presents systematic study of angle-resolved and polarization-resolved magneto-optical photoluminescence spectra of NiPS3 in the Voigt geometry. We observed highly anisotropic, non-linear Zeeman splitting and polarization rotation of the Zhang-Rice exciton, which depends on the direction and intensity of the magnetic field and can be attributed to the spin-orbital coupling and field-induced spin reorientation. Furthermore, above the critical magnetic field, we detected additional splitting of the exciton peaks, indicating the coexistence of various orientations of Néel vector. This study characterizes orbital change of Zhang-Rice exciton and field-induced spin-reorientation phase transitions in a 2D hexagonal XY-type antiferromagnet, and it further demonstrates the continuous manipulation of the spin and polarization of the Zhang-Rice exciton.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to construct a novel nomogram based on the number of positive lymph nodes to predict the overall survival of patients with pancreatic head cancer after radical surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 2271 and 973 patients in the SEER Database were included in the development set and validation set, respectively. The primary clinical endpoint was OS (overall survival). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were used to screen independent risk factors of OS, and then independent risk factors were used to construct a novel nomogram. The C-index, calibration curves, and decision analysis curves were used to evaluate the predictive power of the nomogram in the development and validation sets. RESULTS: After multivariate Cox regression analysis, the independent risk factors for OS included age, tumor extent, chemotherapy, tumor size, LN (lymph nodes) examined, and LN positive. A nomogram was constructed by using independent risk factors for OS. The C-index of the nomogram for OS was 0.652 [(95% confidence interval (CI): 0.639-0.666)] and 0.661 (95%CI: 0.641-0.680) in the development and validation sets, respectively. The calibration curves and decision analysis curves proved that the nomogram had good predictive ability. CONCLUSIONS: The nomogram based on the number of positive LN can effectively predict the overall survival of patients with pancreatic head cancer after surgery.

Purpose: To explore prevalence and associated factors of abnormalities of the posterior eye shape in dependence of axial length. Design: Population-based study. Participants: Of the participants (n = 3468) of the Beijing Eye Study, we included all eyes with an axial length of ≥25 mm, and a randomized sample of eyes with an axial length of <25 mm. Methods: Using 30°-wide, serial horizontal, and fovea-centered radial, OCT images, we examined location and depth of the most posterior point of the retinal pigment epithelium/Bruch's membrane line (PP-RPE/BML). Main Outcome Measures: Prevalence and depth of an extrafoveal PP-RPE/BML. Results: The study included 366 eyes (314 individuals). On the radial OCT scans, the PP-RPE/BML was located in the foveola in 190 (51.9%) eyes, in 121 (33.1%) eyes in the 6 o'clock part of the vertical meridian (distance to foveola: 1.73 ± 0.70 mm), and in 54 (14.8%) eyes in the 12 o'clock part of the vertical meridian (fovea distance: 2.01 ± 0.66 mm). On the horizontal OCT scans, the PP-RPE/BML was located in the foveola in 304 (83.1%) eyes, between foveola and optic disc in 36 (9.8%) eyes (fovea distance: 1.59 ± 0.76 mm), and temporal to the foveola in 26 (7.1%) eyes (fovea distance: 1.20 ± 0.60 mm). Higher prevalence of an extrafoveal PP-RPE/BML correlated with longer axial length (odds ratio [OR]: 1.55; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.28, 1.89), higher corneal astigmatism (OR: 1.78; 95% CI: 1.14, 2.79), and female sex (OR: 2.74; 95% CI: 1.30, 5.77). The curvature of the RPE/BML at the posterior pole was similar to the RPE/BML curvature outside of the posterior pole in 309 (84.4%) eyes, and it was steeper (i.e., smaller curvature radius) in 57 (15.6%) eyes. In these eyes, axial length was longer (24.41 ± 1.78 mm versus 27.74 ± 1.88 mm; P < 0.001). Conclusions: With longer axial length, the foveola is more often located outside of the geometrical posterior pole. It may be of importance for biometric axial length measurements. An extrafoveal location of the PP-RPE/BML may be due to an axial elongation-associated, meridionally asymmetric enlargement of Bruch's membrane in the fundus midperiphery. Background: The application of nanomaterials (NMs) in the treatment of periodontitis and peri-implantitis has shown multifunctional benefits, such as antibacterial properties, immune regulation, and promotion of osteogenesis. However, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to evaluate global scientific production in this field has not yet been conducted. Method: We searched for publications related to nanomaterials in periodontitis and peri-implantitis using the WOSCC database. The contributions from institutions, journals, countries, and authors were assessed using VOSviewer, the bibliometrix R package, and Microsoft Excel 2019. Results: We identified 2275 publications from 66 countries/regions focusing on nanomaterials in periodontitis and peri-implantitis, published between 1993 and 2023. China and the USA were the top contributors in this field, with 653 and 221 publications, respectively. Key topics include antibacterial properties, delivery systems, nanoparticles, and regeneration. The research focus has evolved from traditional treatments to advanced applications of multifunctional nanomaterials. Conclusion: Significant progress has been made in the application of NMs in periodontitis and peri-implantitis from 1993 to 2023. Future research hotspots will likely focus on multifunctional nanomaterials and those adhering to good manufacturing practices (GMP).

The study of the magnetism of tightly arranged nitronyl nitroxide (NN) radicals via Au-S self-assembly is interesting. In this study, a series of radicals (S-NN, D-NN, BS-NN, BD-NN) along with two types of nanomaterials (S-NPs, D-NPs) were synthesized. NN was chosen for the magnetic units. Their structures have been successfully synthesized and analyzed. The spin magnetic properties were characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) measurement. The analysis revealed that the self-assembled NN formed via Au-S bonds exhibits high packing density. Furthermore, it was gratifying to observe that the AuNPs exhibit ferromagnetism after the surface modification by NN. This results in strong ferromagnetic exchange interactions of S-NPs and D-NPs : J S-NPs = +279.715 K and J D-NPs = +254.913 K, respectively.

Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 2 (IGFBP2) is overexpressed in tumor tissues of several malignancies, including pancreatic cancer. Because of its role in tumor progression, IGFBP2 has been investigated as a tumor biomarker. However, little is known about its utility in pancreatic cancer. Plasma IGFBP2 levels were determined using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 75 patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), 73 matched healthy controls, and 17 chronic pancreatitis patients. Our results showed that the plasma IGFPB2 level was significantly higher in PDAC patients than in patients with chronic pancreatitis and healthy controls. At a cut-off value of 333.9 ng/mL, the specificity and sensitivity were 78.08 and 65.33%, respectively. IGFBP2 level alone did not outperform carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) in diagnostic accuracy, but it successfully identified 9 out of 24 PDAC patients who were misidentified by CA19-9. The combination of IGFBP2 and CA19-9 was more accurate in the detection of PDAC than CA19-9 alone. IGFBP2 was more accurate than the other in discriminating between chronic pancreatitis and PDAC. Plasma IGFBP2, rather than CA19-9, was higher in the new-onset diabetes, lymph node involvement, and distant metastasis subgroups. IGFBP2 level was notably higher in stage IV cases than in stage I/II or stage III disease. However, CA19-9 did not show a difference between stages. After adjusting for lymph node involvement and distant metastasis, plasma IGFBP2 was identified as an independent prognostic marker for PDAC. The median survival time for patients with an IGFBP2 level ≥333.9 ng/mL was significantly shorter than that for patients with an IGFBP2 level <333.9 ng/mL. Marked elevation of plasma IGFBP2 in PDAC is associated with poorer survival. IGFBP2 may be considered as a supplementary biomarker for the diagnosis and prognostic prediction in Chinese pancreatic cancer patients.

Electron beam (EB) and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography are advanced techniques capable of achieving sub-10 nm resolutions, critical for fabricating next-generation nanostructures and semiconductor devices. However, developing EUV photoresists that meet all demands for resolution, line edge roughness (LER), and sensitivity (RLS) remains a significant challenge. Herein, we introduce high-performance photoresists based on single-component self-immolative polymers (SIPs) with inherent signal amplification via cascade degradation. These SIPs function as dual-tone photoresists under both EB and EUV lithography, with performance primarily determined by the exposure dose. Lithographic evaluations show that discrete SIPs provide significant improvements over disperse counterparts, achieving higher resolution and reduced LER. Specifically, a discrete SIP with a DP of 12 produces a line-space pattern with a resolution of approximately 18 nm and an LER of 1.8 nm, compared to 21 nm resolution and 2.5 nm LER for disperse SIPs. Additionally, these SIP-based photoresists, enriched with aromatic structures, exhibit excellent etch resistance. The single-component nature and potential to address the RLS trade-off underscore the promise of discrete SIPs for EUV lithography.

Camellia oleifera is an important woody oil tree in China, in which the flowers and fruits appear during the same period. The endogenous hormone changes and transcription expression levels in different parts of the flower tissue (sepals, petals, stamens, and pistils), flower buds, leaves, and seeds of Changlin 23 high-yield (H), Changlin low-yield (L), and control (CK) C. oleifera groups were studied. The abscisic acid (ABA) content in the petals and stamens in the L group was significantly higher than that in the H and CK groups, which may be related to flower and fruit drops. The high N6-isopentenyladenine (iP) and indole acetic acid (IAA) contents in the flower buds may be associated with a high yield. Comparative transcriptome analysis showed that the protein phosphatase 2C (PP2C), jasmonate-zim-domain protein (JAZ), and WRKY-related differentially expressed genes (DEGs) may play an important role in determining leaf color. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) comparison showed that jasmonic acid (JA) and cytokinin play an important role in determining the pistil of the H group. In this study, endogenous hormone and transcriptome analyses were carried out to identify the factors influencing the large yield difference in C. oleifera in the same year, which provides a theoretical basis for C. oleifera in the future.

It is unclear whether blood concentrations of copper (Cu), magnesium (Mg), and calcium (Ca) influence skeletal muscle mass and strength in children. We aimed to explore the associations between plasma Cu, Mg, and Ca and skeletal muscle indicators in Chinese children. A total of 452 children aged 6 to 9 years old were recruited for this cross-sectional study. Whole body lean soft tissue mass (WLSTM), trunk lean soft tissue mass (TLSTM), and appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASMM) were measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Parameters of these indicators divided by Height2 (Ht2) and Weight (Wt) at the corresponding sites were calculated. Handgrip strength was also measured. Parameters of skeletal muscle indicators and handgrip strength that were below the sex-specific 20th percentile were considered low levels. Plasma concentrations of Cu, Mg, and Ca were measured using ICP-MS. After adjusting for several potential covariates, among the total subjects, for every one standard deviation increase in Cu concentrations, there was a 0.939% decrease in WLSTM/Wt, a 0.415% decrease in TLSTM/Wt, and a 0.47% decrease in ASMM/Wt. For every one standard deviation increase in Cu concentrations, there was a higher odd (OR: 1.36, 95%CI 1.06, 1.75) of low WLSTM/Wt, TLSTM/Wt (OR: 1.33, 95%CI 1.03, 1.71), ASMM/Ht2 (OR: 1.32, 95%CI 1.02, 1.69), as well as ASMM/Wt (OR: 1.56, 95%CI 1.23, 1.99). No significant associations were found between Mg, Ca, and most skeletal muscle indicators. Higher plasma Cu concentrations were adversely associated with skeletal muscle indicators at multiple sites in Chinese children.

High-voltage P2-Na0.67Ni0.33Mn0.67O2 layered oxide cathode exhibits significant potential for sodium-ion batteries, owing to the elevated operating voltage and theoretical energy density beyond lithium iron phosphate, but the large-volume phase transition is the devil. Currently, this type cathode still suffers from stability-capacity trade-off dilemma. Herein, a concept of customized strategy via multiple rock-forming elements trace doping is presented to address the mentioned issue. The customized Mg-Al-Ti trace doped cathode maintains a notable capacity of 140.3 mAh g - 1 with an energy density approaching 500 Wh kg - 1, and shows good cycle stability, retaining 89.0% of its capacity after 50 cycles at 0.1C. Additionally, the full cell, paired with a hard carbon anode, achieves an advanced energy density of 303.3 Wh kg-1. The multiple characterizations reveal the failure mechanism of contrast sample involving severe intragranular cracks coupled with layer to rock salt transformation, which reduces active substance and increases charge transfer resistance. The doped sample with increased sliding energy barrier well suppresses this phenomenon. Impressively, the customized strategy can be extended to Mg-Fe-Ti system. This research provides a novel concept for the design of high energy sodium-ion cathode.

OBJECTIVES: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with mast cell (MC) differentiation was recently described as an aggressive subgroup of AML cases. The objectives of this study were to assess the flow cytometric immunophenotypic features of AML-MC cases. METHODS: We characterized the immunophenotypic features of 21 AML-MC cases by flow cytometry and compared them to 20 reactive/regenerating bone marrow specimens. RESULTS: The number of MCs detected by flow cytometry in AML-MC cases ranged from 0.4% to 21.1%, with a median of 3.5%, significantly higher than that of normal/reactive bone marrow (BM) (median, 0.01%; range, 0.000%-0.396%; P < .0001). Immunophenotypically, MCs in AML-MC cases demonstrated immaturity, differing from MCs in normal/reactive BMs, including dimmer CD45 (100% vs 0%), lower side scatter (100% vs 0%), more frequent CD34 (81% vs 20%), and CD123 (100% vs 10%) positivity, and more frequent uniform/increased CD38 expression (95% vs 20%) (all P ≤ .0001). CD2 (0/5) and CD25 (2/6, 1 uniform and 1 partial) were assessed in a subset of cases. The myeloblasts in AML-MC were typically CD34+CD117+HLA-DR+ with unusually frequent expression of CD56 (57%, all partial) and CD25 (63%, mostly partial), increased CD117 (62%), and decreased CD38 (86%). The MC percentage determined by flow cytometry correlated well with MCs detected by tryptase immunohistochemistry (r = 0.76, P < .001). CONCLUSIONS: The MCs in AML-MC cases are characterized by dim CD45, low side scatter, CD34 and CD123 positivity, and uniform and increased CD38 expression. Flow cytometry is an excellent tool for identifying AML-MC cases.

The combination of anti-angiogenic drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in the treatment of tumors is emerging as a way to improve ICIs-resistant tumor therapy. In addition, gut microbes (GMs) are involved in angiogenesis in the tumor microenvironment and are also associated with the antitumor function of immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, it is unclear whether gut microbes have a role in anti-tumor function in the combination of anti-angiogenic drugs and immune checkpoint inhibitors for cancer treatment. Endostatin, an angiogenesis inhibitor, has been widely used as an antiangiogenic therapy for cancer. We showed that combined therapy with an adenovirus encoding human endostatin, named Ad-E, and PD-1 blockade dramatically abrogated MC38 tumor growth. The structure of intestinal microbes in mice was changed after combination treatment. We found that the antitumor function of combination therapy was inhibited after the elimination of intestinal microbes. In mice with depleted microbiota, oral gavage of Bacteroides fragilis salvaged the antitumor effects of combination Ad-E and αPD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) to a certain extent. Further, Bacteroides fragilis could improve CD3+T cells, NK cells, and IFNγ+CD8+ T cells in the tumor microenvironment to inhibit tumor growth. Besides, Bacteroides fragilis might restore antitumor function by down-regulating isobutyric acid (IBA). Our results suggested that GMs may be involved in the combination of Ad-E and αPD-1 mAb for cancer treatment, which has oncological implications for tumor growth dynamics and cancer immune surveillance.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the impact of HSPA13 on epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) development, along with its associated molecular mechanisms. Methods: HSPA13 expression was evaluated in epiretinal membranes (ERMs) from patients with PVR using immunohistochemistry. The effects of HSPA13 knockdown on TGFß1-induced EMT in hESC-RPE cells were studied through quantitative PCR (qPCR), Western blot, and wound healing assays. Intracellular Ca2+ levels were measured using Fluo-8/AM incubation. A rat PVR model was induced by the intravitreal injection of RPE cells combined with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). RNA-seq was applied to study the molecular mechanism of HSPA13 knockdown-mediated EMT inhibition. Results: HSPA13 was found in human ERMs and its expression increased with TGFß1 treatment in hESC-RPE cells. Knockdown of HSPA13 inhibited TGFß1-induced EMT and migration. In the PVR rat model, HSPA13 was expressed in the ERMs and its knockdown in RPE cells reduced the development of PVR. Consistent with these observations, RNA-seq showed a global suppression of TGFß1-induced EMT and migration by shHSPA13 in RPE cells. Mechanistically, TGFß1 treatment increased intracellular Ca2+ levels, leading to an upregulation of HSPA13 expression. Downregulation of HSPA13 hindered the phosphorylation of PI3K/Akt in TGFß1-induced RPE cells. Conclusions: Our study revealed the involvement of HSPA13 in PVR development, as well as in TGFß1-induced EMT of RPE through the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway. Targeting HSPA13-related pathways involved in regulating EMT in RPE cells could serve as a novel therapeutic approach for patients with PVR.

In recent years, the application of real scene 3D technology has become widespread in urban planning and cultural heritage protection. However, there has been relatively little attention paid to the construction of real scene 3D models for special natural landscapes such as caves. Given the global distribution of karst topography and the large number of naturally developed caves with diverse types, unique landscape styles, and significant scientific value, this paper enriches the research in this field. By combining ground-based and aerial remote sensing techniques, and based on 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry, we have successfully constructed a real scene 3D model of the internal structure of a karst cave with a precision better than 4 cm. Utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) oblique photography, we established a real scene 3D model of the external karst landform with a precision better than 2 cm. We also integrated the internal and external 3D models of the cave, developing a new, complete, and high-precision method for constructing real scene 3D models of karst cave landscapes. Furthermore, we proposed a method for texture reproduction in the dark environment inside the caves, enhancing the reproduction and visual appeal of the real interior. The establishment of high-precision real scene 3D models can not only serve as an effective tool for scientific research on caves but also, as replicas of the real world, play a crucial role in public dissemination and education, thereby enhancing public understanding of cave geological landscapes.

RESUMO

We investigated the value of plasma cytokine levels as markers of pathogenesis and treatment response in patients with non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) pulmonary disease. Plasma cytokine levels were measured and compared among patients with NTM pulmonary disease (n=111), tuberculosis (TB) patients (n=50), and healthy individuals (n=40). Changes during treatment were monitored at 3 and 6 months after treatment. According to the treatment response, NTM patients were classified as 'resistance' or 'sensitivity' responders. The results revealed that five out of twelve cytokines exhibited significantly higher levels in NTM patients compared to controls. Among these, interleukin (IL)-6 demonstrated the strongest discriminating capacity for NTM. Furthermore, when combined with IL-1ß, they efficiently distinguished between NTM drug-resistant and drug-sensitive patients, as well as between NTM and TB groups. Additionally, IL-6 levels initially rose and then decreased in the NTM drug-resistant group during the six months of treatment, similar to the behavior of IL-1ß in the NTM drug-sensitive group. Subgroup analyses of the sensitive group with differential treatment responses revealed an increase in IL-10 levels in the six-month treatment responders. A high IL-6/IL-10 ratio was associated with increased disease severity of NTM and TB. Collectively, combinations of various plasma cytokines, specifically IL-1ß, IL-6, and IL-10, effectively distinguished NTM patients with varying mycobacterial burdens, with IL-6 and IL-10 emerging as potential biomarkers for early treatment response. The combination of IL-6 and IL-1ß demonstrated the highest discriminatory value for distinguishing between NTM-resistant and NTM-sensitive groups as well as between NTM and TB groups.

H2O2 photosynthesis represents an appealing approach for sustainable and decentralized H2O2 production. Unfortunately, current reactions are mostly carried out in laboratory-scale single-phase batch reactors, which have a limited H2O2 production rate (<100 µmol h-1) and cannot operate in an uninterrupted manner. Herein, we propose continuous H2O2 photosynthesis and extraction in a biphasic fluid system. A superhydrophobic covalent organic framework photocatalyst with perfluoroalkyl functionalization is rationally designed and prepared via the Schiff-base reaction. When applied in a home-built biphasic fluid photo-reactor, the superhydrophobicity of our photocatalyst allows its selective dispersion in the oil phase, while formed H2O2 is spontaneously extracted to the water phase. Through optimizing reaction parameters, we achieve continuous H2O2 photosynthesis and extraction with an unprecedented production rate of up to 968 µmol h-1 and tunable H2O2 concentrations from 2.2 to 38.1 mM. As-obtained H2O2 solution could satisfactorily meet the general demands of household disinfection and wastewater treatments.

The transplantation of islet beta cells offers an alternative to heterotopic islet transplantation for treating type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). However, the use of systemic immunosuppressive drugs in islet transplantation poses significant risks to the body. To address this issue, we constructed an encapsulated hybrid scaffold loaded with islet beta cells. This article focuses on the preparation of the encapsulated structure using 3D printing, which incorporates porcine pancreas decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) to the core scaffold. The improved decellularization method successfully preserved a substantial proportion of protein (such as Collagen I and Laminins) architecture and glycosaminoglycans in the dECM hydrogel, while effectively removing most of the DNA. The inclusion of dECM enhanced the physical and chemical properties of the scaffold, resulting in a porosity of 83.62% ± 1.09% and a tensile stress of 1.85 ± 0.16 MPa. In teams of biological activity, dECM demonstrated enhanced proliferation, differentiation, and expression of transcription factors such as Ki67, PDX1, and NKX6.1, leading to improved insulin secretion function in MIN-6 pancreatic beta cells. In the glucose-stimulated insulin secretion experiment on day 21, the maximum insulin secretion from the encapsulated structure reached 1.96 ± 0.08 mIU ml-1, representing a 44% increase compared to the control group. Furthermore, conventional capsule scaffolds leaverage the compatibility of natural biomaterials with macrophages to mitigate immune rejection. Here, incorporating curcumin into the capsule scaffold significantly reduced the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokine (IL-1ß, IL-6, TNF-α, IFN-γ) secretion by RAW264.7 macrophages and T cells in T1DM mice. This approach protected pancreatic islet cells against immune cell infiltration mediated by inflammatory factors and prevented insulitis. Overall, the encapsulated scaffold developed in this study shows promise as a natural platform for clinical treatment of T1DM.

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of tea polyphenols (TP) and medicinal plant mixtures (Astragalus membranaceus + Lonicera japonica, Rheum officinale Bail + Scutellaria baicalensis + Platycladus orientalis) combined with astaxanthin (AST), benzoic acid (BA), and yeast complex on the health status of Eriocheir sinensis. Method: A total of 630 crabs (male crabs: 41.51 ± 1.63 g; female crabs: 47.27 ± 0.79 g) were randomly distributed into seven groups with three replicates (male: female, 1:1). These crabs were fed as follows for 8 weeks: basal diet (M1), M2 (M1 + 100 mg/kg TP), M3 (M1 + 2.0 g/kg A. membranaceus + 20 g/kg L. japonica), M4 (M1 + 2.5 g/kg R. officinale Bail + 1.5 g/kg S. baicalensis + 1.0 g/kg P. orientalis), and M5, M6, M7 (M2, M3 and M4 with 600 mg/kg AST +1.0 g/kg BA + 20 mg/kg yeast complex added, respectively). Results and discussion: The results showed that the activities of acid phosphatase (ACP), alkaline phosphatase (AKP), and lysosome (LZM) in the hemolymph were significantly increased in M5, M6, and M7 (P < 0.05), and the highest phagocytosis index (PI) and LZM activity were observed in M7 of female crabs. Moreover, the antioxidant indicators superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase (CAT) of hepatopancreas were also significantly improved in M5, M6, and M7 (P < 0.05), while the malondialdehyde (MDA) contents showed an opposite trend. Furthermore, a morphological examination also showed the improved histological structure of hepatopancreas in M7, especially as seen in the clear lumens, no vacuolation, and integrity of the basal membrane of the hepatopancreatic tubule. Taken together, these results suggested that 2.5 g/kg R. officinale Bail, 1.5 g/kg S. baicalensis, and 1.0 g/kg P. orientalis in combination with 600 mg/kg AST, 1.0 g/kg BA, and 20 mg/kg yeast complex could improve the non-specific immunity, antioxidant capacity, and hepatopancreatic health of E. sinensis.

In this Letter, we utilize the speckle model to measure the average random scattering rate of fiber backscatter and analyze its dependence on length, yielding a linear fitting coefficient of 0.23 ppm/m for a PM980-XP fiber. We incorporate the temperature coupling effect into the model and validate the model's accuracy by examining the distribution of the change rate of the backscattering rate relative to the temperature and the amplitude spectral density of the backscattered power. Our findings demonstrate that the typical shoulder-shaped noise in interferometer experiments is limited by stray light, and the dependence of shoulder-shaped noise on the fiber length and temperature noise level is analyzed.

Recently, amyloid-ß oligomers (AßOs) have been studied as the primary pathogenic substances in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our previous study revealed that the Aß expression level is closely related to ARC progression. Here, we demonstrated that the accumulation of AßOs in the lens epithelium of age-related cataract (ARC) patients increased during ARC progression and that this alteration was consistent with the changes in mitochondrial function, oxidative stress, and cellular apoptosis. In vitro, human lens epithelial cells (HLECs) treated with AßOs exhibited Ca2+ dyshomeostasis, impaired mitochondrial function, elevated oxidative stress levels, and increased apoptosis. Moreover, the proapoptotic effect of AßOs was alleviated after the uptake of mitochondrial Ca2+ was inhibited. These results establish that AßOs may promote HLEC apoptosis by inducing mitochondrial Ca2+ overload, thus preliminarily revealing the possible association between the accumulation of AßOs and other pathological processes in ARC.
