RESUMO

This study investigates the relationship between various target exposure signs and brain activation patterns by analyzing the EEG signals of 35 subjects observing four types of targets: well-camouflaged, with large color differences, with shadows, and of large size. Through ERP analysis and source localization, we have established that different exposure signs elicit distinct brain activation patterns. The ERP analysis revealed a strong correlation between the latency of the P300 component and the visibility of the exposure signs. Furthermore, our source localization findings indicate that exposure signs alter the current density distribution within the cortex, with shadows causing significantly higher activation in the frontal lobe compared to other conditions. The study also uncovered a pronounced right-brain laterality in subjects during target identification. By employing an LSTM neural network, we successfully differentiated EEG signals triggered by various exposure signs, achieving a classification accuracy of up to 96.4%. These results not only suggest that analyzing the P300 latency and cortical current distribution can differentiate the degree of visibility of target exposure signs, but also demonstrate the potential of using EEG characteristics to identify key exposure signs in camouflaged targets. This provides crucial insights for developing auxiliary camouflage strategies.

A deep understanding of how the host matrix influences the afterglow properties of molecule dopants is crucial for designing advanced afterglow materials. Despite its appeal, the impact of defects on the afterglow performance in molecule-doped SiO2 matrices has remained largely unexplored. Herein, we detail the synthesis of monodisperse SiO2 microparticles by hydrothermally doping molecules, such as 4-phenylpyridine, 4,4'-bipyridine, and 1,4-bis(pyrid-4-yl)benzene. Our results demonstrate that hydrothermal reactions induce not only the formation of emissive defects in the SiO2 matrix but also enable molecule doping through SiO2 pseudomorphic transformation. Optical analyses reveal a remarkable afterglow activation of doped molecules, driven by a synergistic interplay of hydrogen bonding and physical fixation. Specifically, 4-phenylpyridine doping leads to an impressive 227- and 271-fold enhancement in fluorescence and afterglow, respectively, and an extraordinary 3711-fold enhancement in the afterglow lifetime of the resulting SiO2 MPs. We also document hybrid states involving molecule dopants and SiO2 defects, explaining energy transfer from molecule dopants to defects in both singlet and triplet states. The robust achievement of molecule doping provides flexibility to tailor excitation-dependent afterglow attributes while preserving angle-dependent structural colors, facilitating the creation of diverse building blocks for multiscale optical platforms for afterglow modulation and information encoding.

Monolithic integration of color-conversion materials onto blue-backlight micro-light-emitting-diodes (micro-LEDs) has emerged as a promising strategy for achieving full-color microdisplay devices. However, this approach still encounters challenges such as the blue-backlight leakage and the poor fabrication yield rate due to unsatisfied quantum dot (QD) material and fabrication process. Here, the monolithic integration of 0.39-inch micro-display screens displaying colorful pictures and videos are demonstrated, which are enabled by creating interfacial chemical bonds for wafer-scale adhesion of sub-5 µm QD-pixels on blue-backlight micro-LED wafer. The ligand molecule with chlorosulfonyl and silane groups is selected as the synthesis ligand and surface treatment material, facilitating the preparation of high-efficiency QD photoresist and the formation of robust chemical bonds for pixel integration. This is a leading record in micro-display devices achieving the highest brightness larger than 400 thousand nits, the ultrahigh resolution of 3300 PPI, the wide color gamut of 130.4% NTSC, and the ultimate performance of service life exceeding 1000 h. These results extend the mature integrated circuit technique into the manufacture of micro-display device, which also lead the road of industrialization process of full-color micro-LEDs.

Background: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common complication of neurosurgery. Craniocerebral trauma is the likely cause. There are no reports relating CSDH with nephrotic syndrome. Its pathogenesis is very rare, and there are no previous reports on treatments for this disease. We report a case of chronic subdural hematoma that may be caused by nephrotic syndrome and review the previous literature on this subject. Case summary: We report a rare case of chronic subdural hematoma that may be caused by nephrotic syndrome. After the patient was admitted to the hospital, relevant laboratory tests were conducted, and a large amount of protein was detected in the patient's urine, indicating hypoproteinaemia and hyperlipidemia. The patient was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. After the exclusion of related surgical contraindications, the patient underwent trepanation and drainage of the chronic subdural hematoma. Subsequent treatment with oral atorvastatin was provided after surgery. The patient was transferred to the nephrology department for further treatment of nephrotic syndrome if his neurological condition improved. No neurological sequelae were detected at the follow-up visit 3 months after the operation. Conclusion: Chronic subdural hematomas are rarely caused by nephrotic syndrome. Trepanation and drainage may be considered for patients confirmed to have adequate hematoma liquefaction on imaging and who can tolerate craniotomy. Atorvastatin should be supplemented as prophylactic treatment after the operation. Nephrotic syndrome should be treated as soon as the patient's neurological condition is stable.

Background: In the recent decade, there has been substantial progress in the technologies and philosophies associated with diagnosing and treating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in China. The therapeutic efficacy of ACL reconstruction in re-establishing the stability of the knee joint has garnered widespread acknowledgment. However, the path toward standardizing diagnostic and treatment protocols remains to be further developed and refined. Objective: In this context, the Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (CAOS) and the Chinese Society of Sports Medicine (CSSM) collaboratively developed an expert consensus on diagnosing and treating ACL injury, aiming to enhance medical quality through refining professional standards. Methods: The consensus drafting team invited experts across the Greater China region, including the mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, to formulate and review the consensus using a modified Delphi method as a standardization approach. As members of the CSSM Lower Limb Study Group and the CAOS Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Study Group, invited experts concentrated on two pivotal issues: "Graft Selection" and "Clinical Outcome Evaluation" during the second part of the consensus development. Results: This focused discussion ultimately led to a strong consensus on nine specific consensus terms. Conclusion: The consensus clearly states that ACL reconstruction has no definitive "gold standard" graft choice. Autografts have advantages in healing capability but are limited in availability and have potential donor site morbidities; allografts reduce surgical trauma but incur additional costs, and there are concerns about slow healing, quality control issues, and a higher failure rate in young athletes; synthetic ligaments allow for early rehabilitation and fast return to sport, but the surgery is technically demanding and incurs additional costs. When choosing a graft, one should comprehensively consider the graft's characteristics, the doctor's technical ability, and the patient's needs. When evaluating clinical outcomes, it is essential to ensure an adequate sample size and follow-up rate, and the research should include patient subjective scoring, joint function and stability, complications, surgical failure, and the return to sport results. Medium and long-term follow-ups should not overlook the assessment of knee osteoarthritis.

Cesium-based two-dimensional (2D) perovskites with attractive phase and environmental stability have broad application prospects in single-junction and tandem perovskite solar cells (PSCs). However, the severe nonradiative recombination and significant energy losses due to disordered phase orientations and phase distributions greatly hinder the carrier transport performance of cesium-based 2D PSCs and severely limit their photovoltaic performance. Here, we employ an asymmetric chiral spacer cation source, (R)-α-phenylethylamine acrylate (R-α-PEAAA), to prepare high-quality 2D cesium-based films with uniform phase distribution and high out-of-plane orientation by air processing, resulting in efficient carrier transport. More importantly, the asymmetric chiral spacer R-α-PEA has a stronger dipole moment than its isomer (PEA), which can regulate the dielectric properties of cesium-based 2D perovskites and promote charge dissociation. In addition, the chiral R-α-PEA can optimize the morphology and out-of-plane orientation of perovskite films, reduce trap density and nonradiative recombination loss, and optimize energy level alignment, thus enhancing carrier transport. As a result, cesium-based 2D PSCs (R-α-PEA2Cs4Pb5I16, n = 5) achieved a record power conversion efficiency of 19.71% and the unencapsulated device maintained over 90% efficiency after 1500 h of continuous light exposure and ambient storage (35 ± 5% relative humidity). This study provides an idea for the development of chiral 2D perovskite with efficient charge carrier transport toward efficient and stable cesium-based 2D PSCs.

Despite recent advancements in inorganic and organic phosphors, creating monodisperse afterglow nanocomposites (NCs) remains challenging due to the complexities of wet chemistry synthesis. Inspired by nanoinclusions in opal, we introduce a novel SiO2-mediated carbon dot (CD) doping method for fabricating monodisperse, multifunctional afterglow NCs. This method involves growing a SiO2 shell matrix on monodisperse nanoparticles (NPs) and doping CDs into the SiO2 shell under hydrothermal conditions. Our approach preserves the monodispersity of the parent NP@SiO2 NCs while activating a green afterglow in the doped CDs with an impressive lifetime of 1.26 s. Additionally, this method is highly versatile, allowing for various core and dopant combinations to finely tune the afterglow through core-to-CD or CD-to-dye energy transfer. Our findings significantly enhance the potential of SiO2 coatings, transforming them from merely enhancing the biocompatibility of NCs to serving as a versatile matrix for emitters, facilitating afterglow generation and paving the way for new applications.

BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia, characterized by progressive muscle dysfunction, is a common complication of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Our previous study revealed serum Lipoprotein-associated phospholipaseA2 (Lp-PLA2) level significantly increased in COPD and associated with exercise tolerance. This study further investigated the functions and target potential of Lp-PLA2 for sarcopenia in COPD. METHODS: The circulating Lp-PLA2 level/enzyme activity in COPD patients and age-matched healthy volunteers were measured. Clinical parameters on skeletal muscle were measured and their correlations with Lp-PLA2 were analyzed. We explored the involvement of Lp-PLA2 in vivo and treatment effectiveness of darapladib (a specific Lp-PLA2 inhibitor) in CS-induced muscle dysfunction models. RESULTS: Circulating Lp-PLA2 level/enzyme activity was elevated in COPD patients compared with healthy controls, negatively associated with skeletal muscle mass and function. In CS-induced muscle dysfunction murine models, up-regulated serum Lp-PLA2 level/enzyme activity was verified again. In CS-exposed mouse models, darapladib treatment reversed muscle mass loss and muscle dysfunction, meanwhile rescued upregulation of MuRF1 and atrogin-1, and activation of inflammatory factors, oxidant enzymes and NF-κB signaling. CONCLUSIONS: Lp-PLA2 could be a potential indicator for sarcopenia in COPD. Darapladib, a Lp-PLA2 inhibitor, can alleviate CS-induced skeletal muscle dysfunction and represents a potential therapeutic for sarcopenia in COPD.

BACKGROUND: Nuclear cap-binding protein 2 (NCBP2), as the component of the cap-binding complex, participates in a number of biological processes, including pre-mRNA splicing, transcript export, translation regulation and other gene expression steps. However, the role of NCBP2 on the tumor cells and immune microenvironment remains unclear. To systematically analyze and validate functions of NCBP2, we performed a pan-cancer analysis using multiple approaches. METHODS: The data in this study were derived from sequencing, mutation, and methylation data in the TCGA cohort, normal sample sequencing data in the GTEx project, and cell line expression profile data in the CCLE database. RESULTS: Survival analyses including the Cox proportional-hazards model and log-rank test revealed the poor prognostic role of NCBP2 in multiple tumors. We further validated the oncogenic ability of NCBP2 in prostate cancer cell lines, organoids and tumor-bearing mice. A negative correlation was observed between NCBP2 expression and immune score by the ESTIMATE algorithm. Simultaneously, the NCBP2-induced immunosuppressive microenvironment might be related to the decline in CD8+T cells and the increase in regulatory T cells and neutrophils, examined by flow cytometry experiments for NCBP2 overexpressed tumor-bearing mice. CONCLUSION: This research offered strong proof supporting NCBP2 as the prognostic marker and the therapeutic target in the future.

The MobileNetV3-based improved sine-cosine algorithm (ISCA-MobileNetV3) was combined with an artificial olfactory sensor (AOS) to address the redundancy in olfactory arrays, thereby achieving low-cost and high-precision detection of mycotoxin-contaminated maize. Specifically, volatile organic compounds of maize interacted with unoptimized AOS containing eight porphyrins and eight dye-attached nanocomposites to obtain the scent fingerprints for constructing the initial data set. The optimal decision model was MobileNetV3, with more than 98.5% classification accuracy, and its output training loss would be input into the optimizer ISCA. Remarkably, the number of olfactory arrays was reduced from 16 to 6 by ISCA-MobileNetV3 with about a 1% decrease in classification accuracy. Additionally, the developed system showed that each online evaluation was less than one second on average, demonstrating outstanding real-time performance for ensuring food safety. Therefore, AOS combined with ISCA-MobileNetV3 will encourage the development of an affordable and on-site platform for maize quality detection.

Hybrid organic-inorganic perovskites (HOIPs) occupy a prominent position in the field of materials chemistry due to their attractive optoelectronic properties. While extensive work has been done on the crystalline materials over the past decades, the newly reported glasses formed from HOIPs open up a new avenue for perovskite research with their unique structures and functionalities. Melt-quenching is the predominant route to glass formation; however, the absence of a stable liquid state prior to thermal decomposition precludes this method for most HOIPs. In this work, we describe the first mechanochemically-induced crystal-glass transformation of HOIPs as a rapid, green and efficient approach for producing glasses. The amorphous phase was formed from the crystalline phase within 10 minutes of ball-milling, and exhibited glass transition behaviour as evidenced by thermal analysis techniques. Time-resolved in situ ball-milling with synchrotron powder diffraction was employed to study the microstructural evolution of amorphisation, which showed that the crystallite size reaches a comminution limit before the amorphisation process is complete, indicating that energy may be further accumulated as crystal defects. Total scattering experiments revealed the limited short-range order of amorphous HOIPs, and their optical properties were studied by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy.

Materials exhibiting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) are both highly emissive in the solid state and prompt a strongly red-shifted emission and should therefore pose as good candidates toward emerging near-infrared (NIR) applications of organic semiconductors (OSCs). Despite this, very few AIE materials have been reported with significant emissivity past 700 nm. In this work, we elucidate the potential of ortho-carborane as an AIE-active component in the design of NIR-emitting OSCs. By incorporating ortho-carborane in the backbone of a conjugated polymer, a remarkable solid-state photoluminescence quantum yield of 13.4% is achieved, with a photoluminescence maximum of 734 nm. In contrast, the corresponding para and meta isomers exhibited aggregation-caused quenching. The materials are demonstrated for electronic applications through the fabrication of nondoped polymer light-emitting diodes. Devices employing the ortho isomer achieved nearly pure NIR emission, with 86% of emission at wavelengths longer than 700 nm and an electroluminescence maximum at 761 nm, producing a significant light output of 1.37 W sr-1 m-2.

Background: The relationship between graft maturity on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and return to sports (RTS) after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is unclear. Purpose: To compare signal-to-noise quotient (SNQ) values and ACL graft T2* (gradient echo) values between patients who did RTS and those who did not RTS (NRTS) after ACL reconstruction and to evaluate the predictive value of T2* mapping for RTS after ACL reconstruction. Study Design: Case-control study; Level of evidence, 3. Methods: At a minimum of 9 months after arthroscopic single-bundle ACL reconstruction with autologous hamstring tendon graft, 82 patients underwent RTS assessment as well as MRI evaluation. The patients were classified into RTS (n = 53) and NRTS (n = 29) groups based on the results of the assessment. The SNQ values in the proximal, middle, and distal regions of the graft and the T2* values of the graft were measured on MRI. The correlation between T2* values and RTS was assessed using Spearman correlation analysis. Receiver operating characteristic curves were constructed to compare the diagnostic performance, and the optimal T2* cutoff value for detecting RTS was determined based on the maximum Youden index. Results: At 9 months after ACL reconstruction, the proximal, middle, and mean SNQ values in the RTS group were significantly lower than those in the NRTS group (proximal: 17.15 ± 4.85 vs 19.55 ± 5.05, P = .038; middle: 13.45 ± 5.15 vs. 17.75 ± 5.75, P = .001; mean: 12.37 ± 2.74 vs 15.07 ± 3.32, P < .001). The T2* values were lower in the RTS group (14.92 ± 2.28 vs 17.69 ± 2.48; P < .001) and were correlated with RTS (r = -0.41; P = .02). The area under the curve of T2* was 0.79 (95% CI, 0.75-0.83), and the optimal cutoff value for T2* was 16.65, with a sensitivity and specificity for predicting failure to RTS of 67.9% and 88.2%, respectively. Conclusion: Study findings indicated that the SNQs (mean, proximal, and middle) and the T2* values of the graft in the RTS group were significantly lower than those in NRTS group. A T2* value of 16.65 was calculated to predict patients who failed RTS tests with a sensitivity of 67.9% and specificity of 88.2%.

Tin-lead (Sn-Pb) perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have gained interest as candidates for the bottom cell of all-perovskite tandem solar cells due to their broad absorption of the solar spectrum. A notable challenge arises from the prevalent use of the hole transport layer, PEDOT:PSS, known for its inherently high doping level. This high doping level can lead to interfacial recombination, imposing a significant limitation on efficiency. Herein, NaOH is used to dedope PEDOT:PSS, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of Sn-Pb PSCs. Secondary ion mass spectrometer profiles indicate that sodium ions diffuse into the perovskite layer, improving its crystallinity and enlarging its grains. Comprehensive evaluations, including photoluminescence and nanosecond transient absorption spectroscopy, confirm that dedoping significantly reduces interfacial recombination, resulting in an open-circuit voltage as high as 0.90 V. Additionally, dedoping PEDOT:PSS leads to increased shunt resistance and high fill factor up to 0.81. As a result of these improvements, the power conversion efficiency is enhanced from 19.7% to 22.6%. Utilizing NaOH to dedope PEDOT:PSS also transitions its nature from acidic to basic, enhancing stability and exhibiting less than a 7% power conversion efficiency loss after 1176 h of storage in N2 atmosphere.

Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) is an intensified mass transfer process, which can utilize natural resources effectively, but still lacks detailed mechanisms for multiscale effects. This study investigates the mass transfer mechanisms of UAE combined with material's pore structure at multiscale. Porous material was prepared by roasting green coffee beans (GCB) at 120 °C (RCB120) and 180 °C (RCB180), and their UAE efficiency for phytochemicals (caffeine, trigonelline, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid) were evaluated by experiment and modeling. Besides, the physicochemical properties, mass transfer kinetics, and multi-physical field simulation were studied. Results indicated that positive synergy effects on extraction existed between ultrasound and material's pore structure. Higher mass transfer coefficients of UAE (GCB 0.16 min-1, RCB120 0.38 min-1, RCB180 0.46 min-1) was achieved with higher total porosity (4.47 %, 9.17 %, 13.52 %) and connected porosity (0 %, 3.79 %, 5.98 %). Moreover, simulation results revealed that micro acoustic streaming and pressure difference around particles were the main driving force for enhancing mass transfer, and the velocity (0.29-0.36 m/s) increased with power density (0.64-1.01 W/mL). The microscale model proved that increased yield from UAE-RCB was attributed to internal convection diffusion within particles. This study exploited a novel benefit of ultrasound on extraction and inspired its future application in non-thermal food processing.

Chrysanthemum × morifolium Ramat 1792 cultivar 'Hangbaiju', also known as 'Hangzhou White Chrysanthemum', originates from Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China. It is celebrated as one of Zhejiang's 'eight flavors'. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of Chrysanthemum × morifolium cultivar 'Hangbaiju'. The genome has a circular structure of 151,110 bp containing a large single-copy region (LSC) of 82,851 bp, a small copy region (SSC) of 18,351 bp, and two inverted repeats (IR) of 24,936 and 24,972 bp in length. It comprises 128 genes: 85 protein-coding gene, 8 ribosomal RNA (rRNA) genes, and 35 transfer RNA (tRNA) genes. Phylogenetic analysis, based on complete chloroplast genomes, demonstrates that Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Hangbaiju' shares a close genetic cluster with Chrysanthemum × morifolium 'Fubaiju' (MT1919691.1). Notably, 'Fubaiju' was introduced to Macheng, Hubei Province from Tongxiang in 1968 according to public information. The chloroplast genome data, coupled with morphological and historical records, strongly suggest that they are the same variety known by different names based on their cultivation locations.

'Zuili' is a distinguished plum (Prunus salicina Lindley 1830) originating from Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province, China, and a nationally recognized geographical indication product. In this study, we reported the complete chloroplast genome of P. salicina cultivar 'Zuili'. The genome has a circular structure of 157,935 bp containing a large single-copy (LSC) region of 86,133 bp, a small single-copy (SSC) region of 19,028 bp, and two inverted repeats (IRs) of 26,387 by each. It harbors 130 genes (111 unique genes), including 85 protein-coding genes (78 are unique), eight ribosomal RNA genes (four are unique), and 37 transfer genes (29 are unique). The phylogenetic analysis based on whole chloroplast genomes showed 'Zuili' was clustered with Prunus salicina cultivar 'Wuyuecui' (MW406461.1) and 'No. 2 Guofeng' (MW406472.1). This study provides valuable information that can contribute to the identification and further evolutionary analysis of Prunus salicina cultivar 'Zuili'.

Aberrant TGFß signaling is linked to metastasis and tumor immune escape of many cancers including metastatic triple negative breast cancer (mTNBC). Previously, we have found that oncolytic adenoviruses expressing a TGFß signaling inhibitory protein (sTGFßRIIFc) induced immune activation in a mouse TNBC (4T1) immunocompetent subcutaneous model with intratumoral injection. Systemic administration of adenoviruses can be a superior route to treat mTNBC but faces the challenges of increased toxicity and viral clearance. Thus, we created a liver-de-targeted sTGFßRIIFc- and LyP-1 peptide-expressing adenovirus (mHAdLyp.sT) with enhanced breast cancer cell tropism. Its safety and immune response features were profiled in the 4T1 model. Our data showed that the systemic administration of mHAdLyp.sT resulted in reduced hepatic and systemic toxicity. mHAdLyp.sT was also effective in increasing Th1 cytokines and anti-tumor cell populations by cytokine analysis, spleen/tumor qRT-PCR, and flow cytometry. We further tested the therapeutic effects of mHAdLyp.sT alone and in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). mHAdLyp.sT alone and with all ICI combinations elicited significant inhibition of lung metastasis by histological analysis. When mHAdLyp.sT was combined with both anti-PD-1 and anti-CTLA-4 antibodies, primary 4T1 tumor growth was also significantly inhibited. We are confident in advancing this new treatment option for mTNBC.

Chicoric acid (CA) has been reported to exhibit biological activities; it remains unclear, however, whether CA could regulate colitis via modulation of the gut microbiota and metabolites. This study aimed to assess CA's impact on dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis, the gut microbiota, and metabolites. Mice were induced with 2.5% DSS to develop colitis over a 7-day period. CA was administered intragastrically one week prior to DSS treatment and continued for 14 days. The microbial composition in the stool was determined using 16S rRNA sequencing, while non-targeted metabolomics was employed to analyze the metabolic profiles of each mouse group. The results show that CA effectively alleviated colitis, as evidenced by an increased colon length, lowered disease activity index (DAI) and histological scores, and decreased tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression levels. CA intervention restored the structure of gut microbiota. Specifically, it decreased the abundance of Bacteroidetes and Cyanobacteria at the phylum level and Bacteroides, Rosiarcus, and unclassified Xanthobacteraceae at the genus level, and increased the abundance of unclassified Lachnospiraceae at the genus level. Metabolomic analysis revealed that CA supplementation reversed the up-regulation of asymmetric dimethylarginine, N-glycolylneuraminic acid, and N-acetylneuraminic acid, as well as the down-regulation of phloroglucinol, thiamine, 4-methyl-5-thiazoleethanol, lithocholic acid, and oxymatrine induced by DSS. Our current research provides scientific evidence for developing CA into an anti-colitis functional food ingredient. Further clinical trials are warranted to elucidate the efficacy and mechanism of CA in treating human inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
