AIMS: Local failure remains the major concern in grade 4 glioma or glioblastoma (GBM). Pilot studies have shown a radiotherapy (RT) dose-response relationship in GBM. Here we present our preliminary data of RT dose escalation using 68Ga-Pentixafor PET scan. High 68Ga-pentixafor uptake in glioma cells helps in sharp demarcation between tumour and normal brain. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This phase II prospective study was conducted from 2018 to 2020. Thirty, biopsy-proven cases of grade 4 glioma were included. All patients underwent post-operative MRI of the brain and 68Ga-Pentixafor PET scan. RT was planned in 2-phases. Phase-1 GTV (GTV1) comprised of T2/flair abnormality, PET-avid disease and post-op cavity. A margin of 2cm was given to GTV-1 to create phase-1 CTV (CTV1), which was further expanded to 0.5cm to generate phase-1 PTV (PTV1). A radiation dose of 46Gy/23fr was prescribed to PTV-1. Phase-2 GTV (GTV2) consisted of CT/MRI contrast-enhancing lesion, PET avid disease and post-op cavity. A margin of 0.5 cm was given to GTV2 to create phase-2 CTV (CTV2) which was expanded to 0.5 cm to create phase-2 PTV (PTV2). RT dose of 14 Gy/7 fr was prescribed to PTV2. PET avid disease was delineated as GTV PET and a margin of 3mm was given to generate PTV-PET which received escalated RT dose of 21 Gy/7fr by simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) in phase 2 (Total dose to PTV PET = 67 Gy/30 fr). All patients received concurrent and adjuvant temozolomide. The data was prospectively maintained in Microsoft Excel sheet. SPSS v 23 was used for statistical analysis. The primary endpoints were estimation of the overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS), and secondary endpoint was to measure the incidence of radiation necrosis. Categorical variables were reported as frequency and percentage and quantitative variables were reported as median and range. RESULTS: Data from thirty patients were analysed. A median OS of 23 months was observed with estimated 1, 2 and 3 years OS of 90%, 40% and 17.8% respectively. A significant association of OS was seen with the extent of surgery (p = 0.04) and kernofsky performance status (p = 0.007). No patient developed significant radiation necrosis. CONCLUSIONS: The index study did not show any survival benefit from dose escalation RT. However, all of the patients tolerated the treatment well and none of them developed radiation necrosis. Considering the small sample size as a limitation of the index study, the role of 68Ga-pentixafor PET scan for radiation dose escalation should be further explored. We diagnosed and treated a case of Primary SjoGren's Syndrome with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in a 65 years old woman who presented with dyspnoea and multiple joint pains for 5 years and remained undiagnosed. She had variable presentation and was initially established as a case of mixed connective tissue disease which consists of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Systemic Sclerosis and Dermatomyositis. She complained of xerostomia, xerophthalmia, difficulty in opening mouth, progressive dysphagia with solid foods and raynaud's phenomenon. In addition to this she noticed photosensitive rash, oral ulcers and difficulty in raising arms above head especially while combing hair. Examination revealed bi basal fine end inspiratory crepitations unaltered while coughing, bed side 6 minutes walking test showed exertional desaturation of SpO2 from 92.0% to 84.0%. Grade 2 tenderness was noted in wrists, knees, elbows and small joints of hands and feet except DIP. However, no oral lesions or dental carries were found. Unstimulated salivary flow rate was 1.0 ml in 15 minutes and sublingual salivary pool was significantly reduced. Schirmer's test was positive. HRCT lung revealed reticulonodular shadowing, honey combing and traction bronchiectasis in basal segments of both lobes, suggestive of usual interstitial pneumonia in both lungs. Auto antibody tests revealed ANA, RA, anti CCP and anti ds DNA negative, CPK was 63U/L. ENA (Extractable Nuclear Antigen) profile demonstrated positive Anti SS- A antibody while it remained insignificant for anti SS-B, anti RNP, anti Sm antibody, anti Scl-7o, anti Jo-1. According to the American-European Consensus Criteria for SjoGren's Syndrome, it meets all the criteria to be diagnosed as Primary Sjogren's Syndrome. We finally diagnosed a case of Primary SjoGren's syndrome with IPF and the patient was treated with pirfenidone, prednisolone, artificial tears and vaccination against Haemophilus influenzae and Streptococcal pneumoniae. The 10 year survival rate for such patients is nearly 80.0%.

A gut-brain axis (GBA) has a long history of conceptual development. Intestinal dysbiosis has now been recognized as a key player in the development of adult neurodevelopmental disorders, obesity, and inflammatory bowel disease. Recent developments in metagenomics suggest those nutrition and gut microbiotas (GM) are important regulators of the gut-brain communication pathways that cause neurodevelopmental and psychiatric problems in adulthood. Intestinal dysbiosis and neurodevelopmental disease outcomes in preterm newborns are being linked by recent research. Recent clinical investigations demonstrate that in critical care units, intestinal dysbiosis occurs before late-onset newborn sepsis and necrotizing enterocolitis. Strong epidemiologic data also shows a connection between necrotizing enterocolitis and extremely low birth weight babies' long-term psychomotor impairments and late-onset neonatal sepsis. The GBA theory suggests that intestinal bacteria may indirectly affect preterm newborns' developing brains. In this review, we emphasize the structure and function of the GBA and discuss how immune-microbial dysfunction in the gut affects the transmission of stress signals to the brain. Preterm babies who are exposed to these signals develop neurologic disorders. Understanding neuronal and humoral communication through the GBA may provide insight into therapeutic and nutritional strategies that may enhance the results of very low-birth-weight babies.

Present study was conducted to carry out morphological and molecular confirmation of sandflies collected at the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, R.S. Pura, Jammu, India. Larva was maggot like with large head, thorax and abdomen with typical black head, 12 abdominal segments and last abdominal segment carried two pairs of caudal bristles with matchstick hairs on each segment. The adult fly possessed head, abdomen and thorax. Head consisted of pair of long, hairy and beaded antenna, proboscis and one pair of prominent black eyes. Thorax possessed a pair of wings and three pairs of legs, wings were hairy and pointed with 2nd longitudinal vein branched twice. The abdominal segments were covered with small hairs and last abdominal segment was having a pair of anal recti. These identification characteristics confirmed the fly under study as Phlebotomus argentipes that confirms its occurance in this region. Molecular characterization of identified flies was carried out on positive morophological flies. Confirmation of Phlebotomus species was ascertained by amplifying the 18S ribosomal RNA gene sequence using PCR. Clear amplification was observed for Phlebotomus argentipes (538 bp). After sequencing/genotyping, Phlebotomus argentipes (OP646634) isolate of present study was clustering in same clade with Phlebotomus argentipes sequences obtained from GeneBank from other locations across globe, irrespective of their geographical location, thus providing the molecular evidence of this species present in Jammu region of North India.

Childhood epilepsy can masquerade as a variety of psychiatric disorders or behavioural abnormalities. Differentiating between simple partial seizure and psychiatric disorders remains a challenge. We report on three children with simple partial seizure, each presented atypically with migraine, tingling sensations, and/or crying spells. When dealing with atypical symptomatology, clinicians should utilise a multidirectional, rather than unidirectional, diagnostic approach when making their diagnosis.

All brain areas affected in Parkinson's disease (PD) show an abundance of microglia with an activated morphology together with increased expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, suggesting that neuroinflammation may contribute to the neurodegenerative process in this common and incurable disorder. We applied a single nucleus RNA- and ATAC-sequencing approach using the 10x Genomics Chromium platform to postmortem PD samples to investigate microglial heterogeneity in PD. We created a multiomic dataset using substantia nigra (SN) tissues from 19 PD donors and 14 non-PD controls (NPCs), as well as three other brain regions from the PD donors which are differentially affected in this disease: the ventral tegmental area (VTA), substantia inominata (SI), and hypothalamus (HypoTs). We identified thirteen microglial subpopulations within these tissues as well as a perivascular macrophage and a monocyte population, of which we characterized the transcriptional and chromatin repertoires. Using this data, we investigated whether these microglial subpopulations have any association with PD and whether they have regional specificity. We uncovered several changes in microglial subpopulations in PD, which appear to parallel the magnitude of neurodegeneration across these four selected brain regions. Specifically, we identified that inflammatory microglia in PD are more prevalent in the SN and differentially express PD-associated markers. Our analysis revealed the depletion of a CD83 and HIF1A- expressing microglial subpopulation, specifically in the SN in PD, that has a unique chromatin signature compared to other microglial subpopulations. Interestingly, this microglial subpopulation has regional specificity to the brainstem in non-disease tissues. Furthermore, it is highly enriched for transcripts of proteins involved in antigen presentation and heat-shock proteins, and its depletion in the PD SN may have implications for neuronal vulnerability in disease.

The aim of this research work is to improve the mechanical and water-resistance properties of soy protein isolate (SPI) biofilm. In this work, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) coupling-agent modified nanocellulose was introduced into the SPI matrix in the presence of citric acid cross-linker. The presence of amino groups in APTES facilitated the formation of - cross-linked structures with soy protein. The incorporation of a citric acid cross-linker made the cross-linking process more productive, and the surface smoothness of the film was confirmed by a Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). From the study of the mechanical and thermal properties and water resistance of the film, it was confirmed that the results were highly satisfactory for the modified nanocellulose-incorporated film compared to the non-modified one. Additionally, coating of citral essential oil onto SPI nanocomposite film displayed antimicrobial properties due to the presence of various phenolic groups in the citral oil. The Tensile Strength and Young's Modulus of silane-modified nanocellulose containing film were enhanced by ∼119 % and âˆ¼ 112 %, respectively on incorporation of 1 % APTES-modified nanocellulose. Consequently, this work is expected to offer an effective way for silylated nano-cellulose reinforcing soy protein isolate (SPI)-based bio nanocomposite films for packaging applications. As an example, we have demonstrated one of the applications as wrapping films for packing black grapes.

The study of growth curves in sheep is an effective approach to monitor the animal development for predicting the growth rate and improving overall flock performance. The purpose of the present work was to study the growth curve traits of Munjal sheep using different non-linear models and to estimate the genetic parameters of those traits for the possibility of inclusion of them under selection strategy. Total 2285 weight records at birth, 3, 6 and 12 months of age of 706 lambs born to 48 sires and 149 dams were collected from the registers maintained from 2004 to 2019. Various non-linear growth models viz., Brody, Gompertz, logistic, Bertalanffy and negative exponential were fitted to targeted growth curve traits and then evaluated using goodness of fit criteria such as adjusted R2, root means square error (RMSE), Akaike's information criterion (AIC) and Bayesian information criterion (BIC). The genetic parameters of growth curve traits were estimated using animal model. The results suggested that Brody model was best fitted to the data than other models. The growth curve estimates for mature weight (A), inflexion point (B) and rate of maturation (k) under Brody model were 25.82 ± 1.72, 0.84 ± 0.04, and 0.21 ± 0.04, respectively for female lambs, and 29.55 ± 2.04, 0.86 ± 0.03 and 0.19 ± 0.04, respectively for male lambs. The males showed superiority for mature weights whereas female lambs had higher maturation rates. The estimates of direct heritability for A, B and k were 0.33, 0.41 and 0.10, respectively. The moderate estimate of direct heritability of A and its negative genetic correlation with k indicated the scope of genetic improvement through selection based on mature weights. Therefore, it was concluded from the present findings that Brody model was the one that best describes the growth curve in the Munjal sheep and the selection based on mature weights can be employed for genetic improvement of Munjal flock.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physiological and morphological parameters of pregnant does for early prediction of prenatal litter size. In total, 33 does were screened using ultrasonography and further categorized into three groups based on does bearing twins (n = 12), a single fetus (n = 12), or non-pregnant does (n = 9). The rectal temperature °F (RT) and respiration rate (RR) as physiological parameters, while abdominal girth in cm (AG) and udder circumference in cm (UC) as morphological parameters were recorded at different gestation times, i.e. 118, 125, 132 and 140 days. In addition to this, age (years) and weight at service (kg) were also used. The statistical analyses included analysis of variance (ANOVA) and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). The results indicated that groups had significant (P < 0.05) differences among morphological parameters at each gestation time, with higher AG and UC in does bearing twins followed by a single fetus and non-pregnant does. However, both physiological parameters were non-significantly (P > 0.05) associated with litter size groups. It was also revealed that the studied parameters showed increasing trends over gestation time in single and twin fetus categories, but they were on par among non-pregnant does. The results of the LDA revealed that estimated function based on age, weight at service, RR, RT, AG and UC had greater (ranging from 75.00 to 91.70%) accuracy, sensitivity and specificity at different gestation times. It was concluded that using an estimated function, future pregnant does may be identified in advance for single or twin litter size, with greater accuracy.

INTRODUCTION: Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a deadly disease due to its associated morbidity and mortality. Attempts have been made to identify predictors of severity, mortality and need for nephrectomy in EPN with little success. METHODS: We conducted an ambispective study of EPN patients between March 2014 and September 2019. Retrospective data were collected which included age, sex, comorbidities, symptoms, signs, laboratory investigations including imaging, need for dialysis, management and any complications. All patients were then followed prospectively for renal dynamic scan, stone surgery or nephrectomy. Univariate analysis was performed to identify factors affecting mortality and need for elective nephrectomy. RESULTS: In total, 112 patients were included. Mean patient age was 50.01 years, 55% were female and 5% had bilateral involvement. Fever and flank pain were the most common symptoms. Diabetes was seen in 75% of cases and 30% of cases required haemodialysis at initial presentation. About 60% of patients improved with pigtail drainage. Need for nephrectomy was greater in Huang-Tseng stage 3a (14.8%). Huang-Tseng stages 3b and 4 had higher mortality rates (25%) than the other stages (2.2%). Twelve of 99 patients had non functional kidney on follow-up and underwent elective nephrectomy. Low platelet counts, high body mass index, septic shock, dialysis and higher Huang-Tseng stage were found to be predictive of mortality and renal parenchymal thickness on computed tomography scan was predictive of follow-up nephrectomy. CONCLUSIONS: Thrombocytopaenia, high body mass index, septic shock, haemodialysis and higher Huang-Tseng stage are predictors of mortality and renal parenchymal thickness <5mm is a predictor of poor salvage of affected kidney on follow-up.

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the additional impact of dementia on in-patient length of stay (LOS) and related costs in Irish acute hospitals. Both principal and secondary diagnosis effects are estimated and valued. METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study based on administrative data collected on all public hospital in-patient discharges in Ireland for people aged 65 years and older in 2019. Coarsened exact matching (CEM) was undertaken to account for observed confounders between dementia and non-dementia groups, while generalised linear modelling (GLM) was used to compare differences in LOS. RESULTS: Patients with a principal diagnosis of dementia spent on average 17.5 (CI: 15.42, 19.56; p < .01) d longer in hospital than similar patients with no principal diagnosis of dementia. LOS was 6.7 (CI: 6.31, 7.14; p < .01) d longer for patients with a secondary diagnosis of dementia compared to similar patients with no secondary diagnosis of dementia. The additional annual cost of care for patients in hospitals with a secondary (principal) diagnosis of dementia was €62.0 million (€13.2 million). CONCLUSIONS: This study highlights the economic impact of extended LOS for patients with dementia in Irish acute hospitals. Addressing specific dementia-related needs of people in hospital is likely to optimise resource use and decrease health care costs in acute care settings.

In the present study, candidate single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) g.92450765 G > A of leptin gene was explored for Bos indicus cattle with an aim to explore its possible effect on production and reproduction traits. The genotypic and allelic frequencies of BsaA 1 genotyped SNP g.92450765 G > A indicated the predominance of AG (0.65) genotyped Sahiwal cows in our studied population. The least-squares analysis showed a significant association (p < 0.05) of identified genetic variants with total milk yield (TMY) and 305 days milk yield (MY) (p < 0.05). The GG genotyped cows were found to be associated with higher milk yields. However, for reproduction traits under study AA genotype was found to be more favorable with respect to service period and calving interval (p < 0.05). Computational analysis was also performed to predict changes if any in the transcription factor binding sites (TFBS) caused due to the identified SNP in the intronic region of the leptin gene. TFBS analysis predicted that the targeted SNP at g.92450765G > A may lead to the disappearance of TFBS such as Hypermethylated in cancer 2 protein (HIC2), Max-binding protein MNT (MNT), Cyclic AMP-dependent transcription factor -3 (ATF3), Myc-associated factor X (MAX) and Microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF). It may lead to changes in transcriptional regulation.

Introduction: Silicosis is a type of diffuse interstitial lung disease caused by inhalation of crystalline silicon dioxide. The number of silicosis cases have been rapidly increasing over the years. Complete cure is not possible so early diagnosis and prevention is required. Case presentation: Our patient came with chief complaints of productive cough, breathlessness progressing to MRC grade 4 and fever. He worked in a flour mill for 15 years and has been symptomatic for the past 4-5 years. Chest examination showed tracheal deviation to the right, bilateral decreased breath sounds and fine crepitations. Chest X ray showed multiple tiny nodular opacities in all lung zones. Pulmonary function test confirmed restrictive lung disease. On CT scan, miliary mottled densities were noted bilaterally along with fibrosis in upper lobes and ground glass appearance in lower lobes. Echocardiography revealed mild pericardial effusion and Abdominal Ultrasound revealed coarse liver texture, splenomegaly and right sided pleural effusion. Patient was also Hepatitis B positive.Patient was treated with Prednisolone, Entecavir, Moxaclav along with symptomatic management. Discussion: Male gender, HIV infection, Smoking, Occupation, Age at first exposure, Duration of exposure and Concentration of inhaled silica dust are the risk factors of silicosis. Individuals with Silicosis are at high risk of developing Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B infection. Pulmonary function test, HRCT and Lung biopsies help in diagnosis of Silicosis. Serological markers and Liver Function Test helps in diagnosis of Hepatitis B infection. Early diagnosis and prevention is essential for better prognosis and Lung transplant is the only definitive management. Complications like progressive fibrosis, infections, cor pulmonale and pneumothorax may result due to Silicosis. Conclusion: Silicosis is a rare chronic inflammatory condition which leads to an immunosuppressed state and may predispose individuals to opportunistic conditions like Hepatitis B. Therefore, early identification of risk factors and clinical features is required.

BACKGROUND: Long-distance runs with equipment are practised in military training establishments to develop physical stamina and prepare for battles. A study was planned to quantify and compare the physiological and mental workloads of the early and late finishers of a military endurance run through the jungle terrain of north-eastern India in hot and humid conditions. METHODS: Twenty-five soldiers of the Indian Army completed a 15 km run through a rural and jungle track with 6.5 kg of equipment. Twelve participants who finished the race before 130 min were categorised as 'early finishers', and 13 were categorised as 'late finishers' who finished the race after 130 min. Physiological parameters, viz., heart rate (HR), breathing rate (BR), estimated core temperature (ECT), peak acceleration (PAC), and physiological intensity (PHYI) and mechanical intensity (MECHI) were recorded using BioHarness V.3 (Zephyr Technologies, USA) and NASA Task Load Index scores were obtained to assess mental workload. Mann-Whitney U test was applied to assess the level of significance at a p value of <0.05. RESULTS: HR, ECT and PAC were significantly higher (167.9 and 156.0 beats/min, 39.0℃ and 38.4℃, and 1.1 and 1.0 g, respectively) for the first group compared with the second group. The second group expressed higher BR and subjective responses ('total scores' were 76.5 and 82.5, respectively) than the first. The PHYI was significantly higher (from 7.2 to 6.3) for the first group, whereas the MECHI was similar in both groups. CONCLUSION: The successful completion by the first group can be attributed to their motivation to continue heavy work in an adverse environment, and their ability to negotiate with natural obstacles was reflected through controlled subjective responses. Adoption of a possible safe and stable approach to the same task might have led the second group to take a longer duration, exert higher mental effort and demand lower physiological cost.

Andrographis paniculata (Ap) has been a part of traditional medicine for its anti-inflammatory effects, treatment of snake bites and liver abnormalities. Several investigations have revealed its bioactive components to be andrographolides. The methanolic extracts of leaves from Ap were characterized, the non-andrographolides were identified and screened for anti-proliferative activity. The extracts showed significant toxicity against numerous cancer cells including HeLa, MCF7, BT549, 293 and A549 cells. Anti-proliferative activity and effect on cancer cell invasion (metastatic potential) and cell migration were examined. The extracts revealed significant inhibition of the ability of HeLa cells in repairing the gap created by a vertical wound made on a confluent cell monolayer. Similarly, a 40% reduction in cell migration was observed in presence of the extracts. Significant anti-angiogenic activity in terms of reduced blood capillary formation was observed on the Chorioallantoic membranes of embryonated hen eggs co-inoculated with HeLa cells and the extracts. Analysis of HeLa cells treated with the extracts using flow cytometry indicated the arrest of cell cycle progression at the G2/M phase. Variation in the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio and elevated caspase-3 levels by immunoblotting confirmed cell death induction via the apoptotic pathway. Investigation of the extracts by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry displayed the predominant components to be 2(5H)-Furanone (14.73%), Quinic acid (17.32%), and Phytol (11.43%). These components have been previously known to have anticancer activity, while being studied individually in other plants. This is the first study, to the best of our knowledge, on the anti-proliferative and anti-angiogenic activity of the non-andrographolide components from Ap.

The estimation of breeding values is prime concern for animal breeders in order to achieve desired genetic progress of farm animals. However, current methods for estimating BV involve simultaneous selection of animal model which are computationally intensive and time-consuming. The present attempt was made to predict breeding values of weaning trait under artificial neural networks (ANN), Bayesian technique (BT), and multiple regression (MR) methods. The data records comprising year of birth, sex, type of birth, dam's weight at kidding, birth weight, weaning weight, and estimated breeding values (BV) for weaning weight (under animal model) pertaining to 849 kids born to 37 sires and 237 dams between 2004 and 2019 were used in this study. All three methods, viz., ANN under multilayer perceptron (2 hidden layers), BT under Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach, and MR under full model, were used for 75% training dataset initially and prediction model developed was applied on 25% test dataset. The initial analysis showed positive and significant (P < 0.01) relationship of BV with other variables which hinted that BV may be predicted with accuracy. Then, it was revealed from the results indicated that ANN, BT, and MR methods have similar accuracy (r = 0.86 to 0.87) for prediction of BV. However, ANN showed slightly higher but negligible model adequacy than BT and MR method. The prediction error under three methods was almost equal. The results indicated that these methods could be used as potential alternative for recurrent prediction of BV based on phenotypic data in order to optimize selection plans at young age in resourced population of Beetal goat.

The purpose of the present study was to estimate the inbreeding coefficient and its effects on various growth traits in Beetal goat using pedigree records of 963 kids born to 38 sires and 287 dams over the period of 2004 to 2019. The inbreeding coefficients for each individual were obtained under animal model. The effects of inbreeding along with other fixed effects such as year of birth, sex of kid, type of birth, and dam's weight at kidding on growth traits viz., weight at birth (BWT), 3 (WT3), 6 (WT6), 9 (WT9), and 12 (WT12) months of age were studied using least-squares analysis. Additionally, average daily gain and Kleiber ratio up to weaning age (90 days) were studied under the same model. The overall inbreeding coefficient was low in magnitude (1.42%) and ranged from 0 to 25% over the study period. The significant (P < 0.05) increase in average inbreeding coefficient (%) over the years was observed among the studied population. Although, the effects of various factors had significant (P < 0.05) influence on growth traits under least-squares model, the regression of targeted traits on inbreeding were non-significant (P > 0.05) and the same ranged from - 0.06 to 0.04. The present findings indicated that there was no inbreeding depression among the growth traits of Beetal goat. However, as inbreeding (%) raised in recent years only, the scientific efforts must be taken to avoid inbreeding at resourced population by introducing new germplasms at earliest.

Recently, polymer-based materials have been used in various filed of applications, but their low thermal conductivity restricts their uses due to the high interfacial thermal resistance. Therefore, in this study, one-dimensional thin-walled carbon nanotube (1D-TWCNT) and two-dimensional boron nitride nanosheet (2D-BNNS) fillers were used to enhance the thermal properties of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). An important factor to be considered in enhancing the thermal properties of PVA is the interfacial configuration strategy, which provides sufficient pathways for phonon transport and the controlled loss of the intrinsic thermal properties of the filler nanomaterial. In this study, the effect of sodium tetraborate (borax) additive on the thermal properties of 1D-TWCNT/PVA and 2D-BNNS/PVA nanocomposites was explored. Borax is a well-known crosslinking additive that can be used with PVA. The crosslink density of the PVA-borax nanocomposite was controlled by changing its borate ion concentration. The addition of borax into nanocomposites improves the conductivity of 1D-TWCNT/PVA nanocomposites up to 14.5% (4 wt.% borax) and of 2D-BNNS/PVA nanocomposite up to 30.6% for BNNS (2 wt.% borax). Thus, when borax was added, the 2D-BNNS/PVA nanocomposite showed better results than the 1D-TWCNT/PVA nanocomposite.
