RESUMO

Ternary metal sulfide (MIn2S4) by virtue of large extinction coefficient, suitable band gap and stability, has been proposed as a candidate for photocatalytic synthesis hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). However, MIn2S4 is conventionally synthesized by solvothermal method that is generally characterized by tedious operational steps and long reaction time. In this work, four sonoMIn2S4 (M = Zn, Mg, Ni, Co) were successfully prepared by sonochemical method within 2 h. These as-synthesized sonoMIn2S4 delivered much high-efficient photocatalytic H2O2 generation. Particularly, the sonoZnIn2S4 presented H2O2 production rate of 21295.5 µmol∙g-1∙h-1 in water/benzylalcohol system, which is 3.0 times that of ZnIn2S4 prepared by solvothermal method. The remarkably improved photocatalytic performance of sonoZnIn2S4 might be due to the multiple defects and fast electron-hole pair separation caused by ultrasound cavitation effect. Other metal sulfide photocatalysts with high performance were efficiently fabricated by facile sonochemical technology as well. The sonochemical method realized the rapid preparation of metal sulfide photocatalysts and efficient production of H2O2, which benefits to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) including SDG-7 and SDG-12.

RESUMO

AIM: To extend and form the "Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation in Traditional Chinese Medicine" (GRADE-TCM). METHODS: Methodologies were systematically reviewed and analyzed concerning evidence-based TCM guidelines worldwide. A survey questionnaire was developed based on the literature review and open-end expert interviews. Then, we performed expert consensus, discussion meeting, opinion collection, external examination, and the GRADE-TCM was formed eventually. RESULTS: 265 Chinese and English TCM guidelines were included and analyzed. Five experts completed the open-end interviews. Ten methodological entries were summarized, screened and selected. One round of consensus was conducted, including a total of 22 experts and 220 valid questionnaire entries, concerning 1) selection of the GRADE, 2) GRADE-TCM upgrading criteria, 3) GRADE-TCM evaluation standard, 4) principles of consensus and recommendation, and 5) presentation of the GRADE-TCM and recommendation. Finally, consensus was reached on the above 10 entries, and the results were of high importance (with voting percentages ranging from 50 % to 81.82 % for "very important" rating) and strong reliability (with the Cr ranging from 0.93 to 0.99). Expert discussion meeting (with 40 experts), opinion collection (in two online platforms) and external examination (with 14 third-party experts) were conducted, and the GRADE-TCM was established eventually. CONCLUSION: GRADE-TCM provides a new extended evidence-based evaluation standard for TCM guidelines. In GRADE-TCM, international evidence-based norms, characteristics of TCM intervention, and inheritance of TCM culture were combined organically and followed. This is helpful for localization of the GRADE in TCM and internationalization of TCM guidelines.

RESUMO

The elimination of antimony pollution has attracted increasing concerns because of its high toxicity to human health and the natural environment. In this work, biomimetic δ-MnO2 was synthesized by using waste tobacco stem-silks as biotemplate (Bio-δ-MnO2) and used in the capture of Sb(III)from aqueous solution. The tobacco stem-silks not only provided unique wrinkled morphologies but also contained carbon element self-doped into the resulting samples. The maximum Sb(III) adsorption capacity reached 763.4 mg∙g -1, which is 2.06 times higher than δ-MnO2 without template (370.0 mg∙g -1), 4.53 times than tobacco stem-silks carbon (168.5 mg∙g -1), and 10.39 times than commercial MnO2 (73.5 mg∙g -1), respectively. The isotherm and kinetic studies indicated that the adsorption behavior was consistent with the Langmuir isotherm model and the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation. As far as we are aware, the adsorption capacity of Bio-δ-MnO2 is much higher than that of most Sb(III) adsorbents. FT-IR, XPS, SEM, XRD, and Zeta potential analyses showed that the main mechanism for the adsorption of Sb(III) by Bio-δ-MnO2 includes electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and redox. Overall, this study provides a new sustainable way to convert agricultural wastes to more valuable products such as biomimetic adsorbent for Sb(III) removal in addition to conventional activated carbon and biochar.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Continuous comprehensive treatment is still needed after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) to promote the recovery of sinus mucosal morphology and function. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) nasal irrigation is a promising external treatment of TCM, but at present, the application of TCM nasal irrigation after ESS for CRS has not been recommended by the guidelines. Therefore, this article aims to develop a systematic overview and meta-analysis protocol to assess the effectiveness and safety of Chinese herbal nasal rinse for CRS recovery after ESS. METHODS: Seven databases shall be retrieved from their inception until December 2021. Eligible randomized controlled trials will be covered in the study. The outcome indicators of the survey will consist of efficacy, visual analogue scale score, Lund-Kennedy score for nasal endoscopy, Lund-Mackay score for sinus computed tomography and other secondary outcome indicators. The selection of literature, extraction of data, and methodological quality evaluation of literature shall be conducted by two researchers separately. If there is any dispute, it can be discussed and solved by a third researcher. Review Manager 5.3 software will be applied to data analysis. RESULTS: The article will make a detailed research programme to explore the efficacy and safety of TCM nasal irrigation on CRS recovery after ESS. CONCLUSION: This protocol is suitable for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of TCM nasal rinse for CRS recovery after ESS, and can provide corresponding evidence-based medical evidence. RESUMO

BACKGROUND: The potential treatment effects and safety of Yu ping feng san (YPFS) for pediatric allergic rhinitis (PAR) patients have yet to be studied systematically. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects and safety of YPFS for treat pediatric patients, allergic rhinitis. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed, EMBASE (Excerpta Medical Database), Cochrane library, Chinese Cochrane Centre's Controlled Trials Register platform, Wanfang Chinese Digital Periodical and Conference Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database, and VIP Chinese Science, from inception dates to November 1, 2019. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. The risk of bias in the trials was assessed in accordance with the Cochrane Handbook, version 5.1.0. RevMan 5.3 software was used to perform a meta-analysis. Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation methodology was applied to evaluate the evidence quality for each outcome. The quality of evidence for each outcome measurement was low for 4 outcomes and very low for 5 outcomes. RESULTS: A total of 10 RCTs involving 1069 participants (3-15 years old) fulfilled the inclusion criteria. After exclusion, 8 RCTs were pooled for efficacy assessment. The overall efficacy evaluation result did not show benefit for the experimental group (relative risk 0.32, CI 95% 0.24-0.45; P = .98;) Investigation of variation of serum IgA, immunoglobulin E, IgG in three studies in 2 groups returned no statistical significance. YPFS gave relatively better safety (relative risk 0.29, CI 95% 0.14-0.58; P = .0005; Fig. S8, http://links.lww.com/MD/F751) and lower recurrence rates than did Western medical therapy. CONCLUSIONS: Current evidence cannot support the routine use of YPFS for treatment of PAR. This may be due to poor-quality study-design limitations of the included YPFS studies. Our data showed that the use of YPFS for PAR is relatively safe compared to Western medical therapy, but a conclusion could not be drawn because only 5 studies were analyzed. Every study suffered from some methodological limitation. Therefore, further large, rigorously-designed studies are necessary to determine conclusively the utility of YPFS in PAR.

RESUMO

It was shown that some nanomaterials may have anticancer properties, but lack of selectivity is one of challenges, let alone selective suppression of cancer growth by regulating the cellular microenvironment. Herein, we demonstrated for the first time that carbon quantum dots/Cu2O composite (CQDs/Cu2O) selectively inhibited ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells by targeting cellular microenvironment, such as matrix metalloproteinases, angiogenic cytokines and cytoskeleton. The result was showed CQDs/Cu2O possessed anticancer properties against SKOV3 cells with IC50 = 0.85 µg mL-1, which was approximately threefold lower than other tested cancer cells and approximately 12-fold lower than normal cells. Compared with popular anticancer drugs, the IC50 of CQDs/Cu2O was approximately 114-fold and 75-fold lower than the IC50 of commercial artesunate (ART) and oxaliplatin (OXA). Furthermore, CQDs/Cu2O possessed the ability to decrease the expression of MMP-2/9 and induced alterations in the cytoskeleton of SKOV3 cells by disruption of F-actin. It also exhibited stronger antiangiogenic effects than commercial antiangiogenic inhibitor (SU5416) through down-regulating the expression of VEGFR2. In addition, CQDs/Cu2O has a vital function on transcriptional regulation of multiple genes in SKOV3 cells, where 495 genes were up-regulated and 756 genes were down-regulated. It is worth noting that CQDs/Cu2O also regulated angiogenesis-related genes in SKOV3 cells, such as Maspin and TSP1 gene, to suppress angiogenesis. Therefore, CQDs/Cu2O selectively mediated of ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells death mainly through decreasing the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9, F-actin, and VEGFR2, meanwhile CQDs/Cu2O caused apoptosis of SKOV3 via S phase cell cycle arrest. These findings reveal a new application for the use of CQDs/Cu2O composite as potential therapeutic interventions in ovarian cancer SKOV3 cells.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Tinnitus is a common disease in otolaryngology. In China, acupuncture has been used as a promising treatment for tinnitus. Yet, the specific effect and safety of acupuncture are still disputable. The ultimate goal of this paper is to formulate a protocol for systematic review and meta-analysis, which can be employed in assessing the benefits and safety of acupuncture on tinnitus. METHODS: Seven databases should be retrieved from their establishment until June 2020, including PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Excerpt Medical Database, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Chinese Science and Technology Periodical Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wan Fang Database. Randomized controlled trials of acupuncture treatment of tinnitus will be included. The experimental group is acupuncture or combined with additional treatment measures, and the control group is a placebo, sham acupuncture, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, sound therapy, conventional medication, or same additional treatment. The clinical efficacy rate, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory, Tinnitus Questionnaire, visual analogue scale or other indicators are all concerned in the systematic evaluation of the program. Data collection, selection and extraction should be made separately by different researchers. The quality of the literature will be evaluated by the bias analysis table in the Cochrane Handbook, and Review Manager 5.3 software shall be applied to data analysis. RESULTS: This protocol has made a concrete plan to evaluate whether acupuncture is effective and safe in curing tinnitus. CONCLUSION: This protocol is suitable for evaluating the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture in curing tinnitus, and is helpful for subsequent evaluation.Open Science Framework Registration DOI: 10.17605/OSF.IO/85FCS.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As the therapy of acupuncture continues to expand, electroacupuncture is increasing used in allergic rhinitis prevention and therapy, and many studies have published that it is effective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. However, it is unclear if electroacupuncture provides an evidence-based clinical benefit in the allergic rhinitis population. METHODS/DESIGN: We will conduct a systematic review of electroacupuncture and health-related outcomes in allergic rhinitis patients according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. The primary objective is to assess the impact of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines on clinical outcomes relevant to allergic rhinitis patients, such as effective rate, life-quality evaluation, and adverse events. The Cochrane Risk Assessment Tool will be used to assess the quality of eligible studies according to the Cochrane handbook. RESULTS: We will perform a meta-analysis using standard techniques for the outcomes. CONCLUSION: The results of this systematic review may highlight the gaps in our knowledge of the relevance of electroacupuncture after treatment or after follow-ups.PROSPERO registration number: PROSPERO CRD42018104080. RESUMO

Metals-organic frameworks (MOFs) have been widely explored in biomedicine, mostly in drug delivery, biosensing, and bioimaging due to their large surface area, tunable porosity, readily chemical functionalization, and good biocompatibility. However, the underlining cellular mechanisms controlling the process for MOF cytotoxicity remains almost completely unknown. Here, we demonstrate that pristine Cu-MOF without any loaded drug selectively inhibited ovarian cancer mainly through promoting tubulin polymerization and destroying the cell actin cytoskeleton (F-actin) to trigger the mitotic catastrophe, accompanying by conventional programmed cell death. To our knowledge, this is the first report claiming that mitotic catastrophe may be an explaining mechanism of MOF cytotoxicity. Cu-MOF with an intrinsic protease-like activity also hydrolyzed cellular cytoskeleton proteins (F-actin). The RNA sequencing data indicated the differential expressional mRNA of cell proliferation and actin cytoskeleton (ACTA2, ACTN3, FSCN2, and SCIN) and mitotic spindles (PLK1 and TPX2) related genes. We found that Cu-MOF as a promising candidate in the disruption of cellular cytoskeleton and the change of the gene expression could be actin altering and antimitotic agents against cancer cells, allowing for fundamental biological and biophysical studies of MOFs.

RESUMO

In this study, we aim to evaluate the efficiency and safety of traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy. A total of eight online databases were searched to collect studies published up to February 2019. Study quality of each included article was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses were conducted based on the Cochrane systematic review method by using the RevMan 5.3 software. Traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was the main therapy in experimental group. Interventions in control groups include western medicine, oral traditional Chinese medicine, other symptomatic treatment of western medicine, and blank control. Primary outcomes in this study include sensory nerve conduction velocity (SNCV), motor nerve conduction velocity (MNCV), total effective rate, and neuropathic syndrome score. Finally, 31 trials involving 3284 participants were included. The results of systematic reviews and meta-analyses showed that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage was significantly better compared with the control groups in terms of the total effective rate, SNCV, MNCV, and neuropathic syndrome score. No case of adverse effect was reported. These findings show that traditional Chinese medicine foot bath combined with acupoint massage may be safer and more effective for the treatment of DPN. However, due to the low methodological quality, further research with randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of higher quality is required to prove its efficacy and better evidence for clinical treatment.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Catgut implantation at acupoint (CIAA) is increasing used in allergic rhinitis therapy, and many studies have published that it is effective in the treatment of allergic rhinitis. However, it is controversy if CIAA can provide an evidence-based clinical benefit in the allergic rhinitis population. METHODS: We will go through 8 databases, and conduct a systematic review of CIAA and health-related outcomes in allergic rhinitis patients according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews. The primary objective is to assess the impact of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines on clinical outcomes relevant to allergic rhinitis patients, such as effective rate, life-quality evaluation, and adverse events. Cochrane Risk Assessment Tool will be used to assess the quality of eligible studies according to the Cochrane handbook. RESULTS: The results of this systematic review will provide a synthesis of current evidence of CIAA and we have a specific opportunity to determine the efficacy and safety of it. CONCLUSION: This study will explore whether or not CIAA can be used as one of the nondrug therapies to prevent or treat allergic rhinitis.PROSPERO registration number: CRD42018095074 (https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/#recordDetails).

RESUMO

AIMS: To evaluate the efficiency of acupuncturing at the sphenopalatine ganglion acupoint alone for treatment of allergic rhinitis. DESIGN: A total of ten online databases were searched to find studies published up to Jan. 2018. Primary outcome measures include the TNSS, the RQLQ score, the VAS score, total effective rate, score for signs and symptoms, and the improvement of disease classification. Study quality of each included article was evaluated by the Cochrane Collaboration risk of bias tool. A meta-analysis was conducted based on the Cochrane systematic review method by using RevMan 5.3 software. INTERVENTIONS: Acupuncturing SGA alone was the only therapy in experimental group. Interventions in control groups includes sham acupuncture, acupuncturing other regular acupoints, and western medicine. Specific techniques included manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture only. PRIMARY OUTCOMES: They include TNSS, RQLQ, VAS score, total effective rate, the improvement of disease classification. RESULTS: Ten studies of eight articles involving 1004 participants were included. Result of meta-analysis showed that acupuncturing sphenopalatine ganglion acupoints alone was more effective than control groups. However, several adverse effects were reported. CONCLUSION: These findings show that acupuncturing the sphenopalatine ganglion acupoint alone has a potential role in alleviating nasal symptoms, improving quality of life for patients, and the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of allergic rhinitis, suggesting it as a considerable therapy for allergic rhinitis. However, more studies are needed to execute a subgroup analysis of various variables and to evaluate the publication bias of the study.

RESUMO

In sharp contrast to conventional photosensitization methods in which the organic pigments were often adsorbed, herein we present a study on natural vegetable pigment inserted TiO2 aerogel nanocomposites and we directly use red cabbage anthocyanin (RCP) as a structure-directing agent. It was found that pure TiO2 aerogel nanocomposite did not exhibit any meaningful activity for photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI). However, the photocatalytic reduction activity was greatly improved by the RCP inserted TiO2 aerogel nanocomposites under visible-light irradiation, which was approximately 2- and 12.3-fold higher than that of TiO2 aerogel conventionally photosensitized by RCP and pure TiO2 aerogel nanocomposites, respectively. It also exhibited good stability and could be reused at least three times without losing a significant amount of its activity.

RESUMO

Escherichia coli nitroreductase (NTR) may convert the prodrug CB1954 (5-(aziridin-1-yl)-2,4-dinitrobenzamide) into a bifunctional alkylating agent, which may lead to DNA crosslinks and the apoptosis of cancer cells. NTR/CB1954 has been demonstrated to be an effective gene therapy in cancer cells. The present study examined whether the NTR/CB1954 suicide gene system had cytotoxic effects on HeLa cells and may improve the radiosensitivity of HeLa cells to γrays. It was observed that the NTR/CB1954 suicide gene system exerted marked cytotoxic effects on HeLa cells. The combined therapeutic effects of NTR/CB1954 and γrays on HeLa cells demonstrated a synergistic effect. CB1954 at concentrations of 12.5 and 25 µmol/l increased the sensitization enhancement ratio of HeLa cells to 1.54 and 1.66, respectively. Therefore, when compared with monotherapy, the combined therapy of NTR/CB1954 and γrays may increase the apoptotic rate and enhance the radiosensitivity of HeLa cells. The combined therapy of γray radiation and the NTR/CB1954 suicide gene system may be a novel and potent therapeutic method for the treatment of cervical carcinoma.

RESUMO

Semiconductor nanocrystals, so-called quantum dots (QDs), promise potential application in bioimaging and diagnosis in vitro and in vivo owing to their high-quality photoluminescence and excellent photostability as well as size-tunable spectra. Here, we describe a biocompatible, comparatively safe bacteria-based system that can deliver QDs specifically into solid tumor of living animals. In our strategy, anaerobic bacterium Bifidobacterium bifidum (B. bifidum) that colonizes selectively in hypoxic regions of animal body was successfully used as a vehicle to load with QDs and transported into the deep tissue of solid tumors. The internalization of lipid-encapsuled QDs into B. bifidum was conveniently carried by electroporation. To improve the efficacy and specificity of tumor targeting, the QDs-carrying bacterium surface was further conjugated with folic acids (FAs) that can bind to the folic acid receptor overexpressed tumor cells. This new approach opens a pathway for delivering different types of functional cargos such as nanoparticles and drugs into solid tumor of live animals for imaging, diagnosis and therapy.

RESUMO

AIM: To study the mechanism underlying carbon tetrachloride (CCl(4)) -induced alterations of protein synthesis in liver. METHODS: Male Sprague-Dawley rats were given CCl(4) (1 mL/100 g body weight) and (3)H-leucine incorporation. Malondialdehyde (MDA) level in the liver, in vitro response of hepatocyte nuclei nucleotide triphosphatase (NTPase) to free radicals, and nuclear export of total mRNA with 3'-poly A(+) were measured respectively. Survival response of HepG2 cells to CCl(4) treatment was assessed by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium. Km and Vmax values of nuclear envelope NTPase activity in liver of rats treated with CCl(4) were assayed by a double-reciprocal plot. RESULTS: The protein synthesis was inhibited while the MDA level was significantly increased in liver of rats treated with CCl(4). In addition, CCl(4) decreased the NTPase binding capacity of nuclear envelope (Km value) in cultured HepG2 cells. Moreover, in vitro ferrous radicals from Fenton's system suppressed the NTPase activity of liver nuclear envelope in a dose-dependent manner. Down-regulation of the nuclear envelope NTPase activity indicated a lower energy provision for nucleocytoplasmic transport of mRNA molecules, an evidence in CCl(4)-treated HepG2 cells correspondingly supported by the nuclear sequestration of poly (A)(+) mRNA molecules in morphological hybridization research. CONCLUSION: Inhibition of mRNA transport, suggestive of decreased NTPase activity of the nuclear envelope, may be involved in carbon tetrachloride-inhibited protein synthesis in liver.

RESUMO

One of the most important chaperones located on endoplasmic reticulum, GRP78, referred as BiP (immunoglobulin heavy chain binding protein), belongs to heat shock protein 70 family. GRP78 exists conservatively among a wide variety of biological species, and acts as a central regulator of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) functions, participating in ER protein folding and assembly process, and maintaining ER Ca2+ homeostasis, unfolded protein response and specific anti-apoptotic actions. Specific regulatory cis-elements such as ER stress response element (ERSE) and cAMP response element (CRE) were identified on the promoter of GRP78. Dynamic epigenetic interactions between specific transcription factors such as AFT6 and regulatory elements in GRP78 gene promoter might contribute to human GRP78 constitutive or inducible transcription, resulting from some physiological and pathological stresses. Recently, cellular relationship between GRP78 expression and hepatic steatosis, cancer and nervous system diseases in human was underwent further clinical and biochemical research, which will benefit to human beings.

RESUMO

Cisplatin is a widely used anticancer drug; however, resistance to cisplatin-based chemotherapy is a major cause of treatment failure in patients with tumors. The present study was undertaken to investigate whether and how endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress initiated by tunicamycin, which inhibits glycosylation, influences cisplatin-induced apoptosis in HepG2 cells. Pretreatment of HepG2 cells with ER stress inducers brought about a decrease in both cisplatin-induced cytotoxic effects and apoptosis. In order to further explore the mechanism underlying tumor resistance to cisplatin, we observed that increased nuclear export of endogenous p53 protein by pharmacological inducers of ER stress, such as tunicamycin, was associated with the suppression of cisplatin-induced apoptosis. These results suggested that tumor suppressor p53 protein may play a key role in cisplatin-induced HepG2 cells apoptosis. It is therefore suggested that the treatment of some tumor patients with cisplatin be combined with the down-regulation of endogenous ER stress to improve the clinical results of cisplatin-based chemotherapy.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the changes of serum leptin, soluble leptin receptor (SOB-R) concentrations and free leptin index (FLI) throughout the puberty in females, and estimate the effects of genetic and environmental factors on these indices. METHODS: The population studied consists of 180 pairs of twins in 6 to 18 years old: 132 pairs of monozygotic twins and 48 pairs of dizygotic twins, who were all from Qingdao city, Shandong Province. Anthropometric and sexual characteristics were examined, fasting serum leptin and SOB-R contents were assayed by immunoradiometric assay and ELISA respectively. RESULTS: Serum leptin concentrations increased and SOB-R decreased throughout puberty (P < 0.05), brought out a sustained increase of FLI, especially in 7-9 and 12-14 years old (from 10.1 to 32.3 and 41.8 to 82.1 respectively); Leptin and FLI were positively, and SOB-R negatively correlated with morphological indices (correlation coefficients from 0.54 to 0.76, -0.23 to -0.42, respectively). Heritability of girl's serum leptin, SOB-R and FLI were 0.37, 0.84, 0.46 respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Serum free leptin index surge at 7-9 and 12-14 years old might be a predictor or trigger of the puberty onset and menarche, respectively; FLI might be determined by both genetic and environmental factors. Leptin should be substantially influenced by environment and reflect the fat mass of body compositions. SOB-R should be predominantly controlled by genetic factors yet. Genetic influence might be important in pubertal development and metabolic disorders.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To explore the effect of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) on female pubertal development and estimate heritability of the serum free IGF-1. METHODS: The study population consisted of 427 girls aged 6 to 18 years: 132 pairs monozygotic twins, 48 pairs same-sex dizygotic twins and 67 girls with opposite-sex twin, who were all from Qingdao city, Shan-dong province. Their breast development were examined by Tanner standard and fast serum free IGF-1 contents were assayed by immunoradiometric assay (IRMA). RESULTS: Serum free IGF-1 concentration increased firstly and decreased later throughout puberty. The peak of free IGF-1 was 12 years old, which equals to Tanner B2. Free IGF-1 heritability of group stage B1, B2-B5, pre-menarche and post-menarche were 0.53, 0.85, 0.48, 0.83 respectively, non-classed heritability was 0.53. CONCLUSION: Fast increase of serum free IGF-1 before 12 years might be a predictor of the growth spurt and breast development. Genetic effect on female serum free IGF-1 was significant in the process of puberty.
