Colorectal cancer (CRC), with the incidence and mortality rising on a yearly basis, greatly threatens people's health. It is considered an important hallmark of tumorigenesis that aberrant glucose metabolism in cancer cells, particularly the Warburg effect. In CRC, the Warburg effect predominantly influences cancer development and progression via its involvement in the glycolytic pathway regarding cell metabolism. The critical mechanisms underlying this process include key glycolytic enzymes, transport proteins, regulatory molecules, and signaling pathways. Furthermore, targeting the reprogrammed glucose metabolism in cancer cells can be potentially used for CRC treatment. However, the mechanisms driving CRC onset and progression, especially in relation to glucose metabolism reprogramming, are not fully understood and represent an emerging field of research. The review aims at providing new insights into the role that glucose metabolism reprogramming plays in the progression of CRC progression together with its resistance to treatment. Ultimately, these insights strive to diminish the risks of CRC metastasis and recurrence.

Flurbiprofen axetil is commonly utilized in clinical practice as one of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and is included in multimodal analgesia regimens postbreast cancer surgery. Numerous NSAIDs have been studied for their potential to both promote and inhibit cancer. Given the variability in their effects on tumors, further investigation into the specific role of flurbiprofen axetil is warranted. Therefore, the primary objective of this study was to assess the impact of flurbiprofen axetil on basal-like breast cancer (BLBC) metastasis and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms involved. The BLBC metastasis mouse model was established by caudal vein injection of tumor cells. The lung metastasis of breast cancer in mice and the effect of flurbiprofen axetil were assessed by in vivo bioluminescence imaging, hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemistry. In vitro, the results of flurbiprofen axetil on the proliferation, migration, and invasion of MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells and BT-549 human breast cancer cells were assessed by colony formation assay and transwell assay. The effects of flurbiprofen axetil on several tumor metastasis-related signaling pathway proteins were examined by western blot, and the reversal extent of the flurbiprofen axetil effect by Ro 67-7476 (ERK phosphorylation agonist) was detected by transwell assay. The results showed that flurbiprofen axetil significantly inhibited BLBC lung metastasis in mice. Flurbiprofen axetil similarly inhibited breast cancer cell migration and invasion in vitro but did not affect their proliferation. Mechanistic investigations have revealed that flurbiprofen axetil exerts a noteworthy inhibitory influence on the MEK/ERK pathway while exhibiting no significant alteration in the expression of other pathway proteins intricately associated with epithelial-mesenchymal transition. In conclusion, the inhibitory effect of flurbiprofen axetil on BLBC metastasis is characterized by its selectivity in targeting the MEK/ERK signaling pathway rather than exerting a broad impact on the global signaling pathway.

Background: Previous studies have found an association between basal metabolic rate (BMR) and various malignant neoplasms, including bone tumors. BMR is also associated with bone mineral density, but the causality between BMR and benign neoplasms of bone and articular cartilage remains uncertain. Design: Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with BMR (p < 5 × 10-8) were used as instrumental variables for Mendelian randomization analysis of neoplasm risk. The inverse variance weighted (IVW) method was the primary approach, with the weighted median and MR-Egger regression serving as supplements. Results: In this MR analysis, the IVW method supported a causal relationship between BMR and benign neoplasms of bone and articular cartilage (OR = 1.417; 95% CI, 1.039 to 1.930; p = 0.027). No evidence of heterogeneity or pleiotropy in the selected SNPs was found in our study. Thus, based on these results, we discovered a possible causal relationship between BMR and benign neoplasms of bone and articular cartilage. Conclusions: In this MR study, evidence suggested a genetic correlation between genetically predicted BMR and the risk of neoplasms in bone and articular cartilage.

Premature ovarian failure (POF) is among the primary causes of ovarian dysfunction that severely affects women's physical and mental health. The main purpose of this study was to explore the expression level of Nerve growth factor-induced protein B (Nur77/NR4A1) in cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced POF. We then tested whether Nur77 can exert a protective effect after CTX treatment and investigated the mechanism of Nur77's role during ovarian injury. CTX promotes follicular atresia by inducing redox imbalance, apoptosis, and senescence, thereby causing direct toxicity to gonads. Additionally, CTX decreases ovarian reserve consumption by stimulating the excessive activation of primordial follicles. Nur77 can be stimulated by oxidative stress, DNA damage, metabolism, inflammation, etc. However, its relationship with POF remains unelucidated. We here found that Nur77 is expressed at low levels in POF ovaries. Therefore, Nur77 was identified as a regulator of ovarian injury and follicular development. According to the results, Nur77 overexpression alleviated redox imbalances, reduced cell senescence and apoptosis, and improved follicular reserve. Nur77 protects ovarian function by restoring disordered sex hormone levels and estrus cycles and promoting follicle growth and development at all levels. Moreover, the rapamycin protein kinase (AKT)/mammalian target of the rapamycin (mTOR) is a crucial regulator of the primordial follicle pool and follicular development. A relationship was observed between Nur77 and AKT through string and molecular docking. Experiments confirmed the involvement of the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in the regulatory role of Nur77 in ovarian function. Thus, Nur77 is a critical target for POF prevention and treatment.

This work aimed to establish an HILIC-MS/MS method to simultaneously determine the levels of 13 endogenous amino acids and trimethylamine oxide in the biological samples from the mice. Electrospray ion source was used for the analysis of mass spectrometry. The 20 min separation was applied in a Dikma Inspire Hilic column (2.1 × 100.0 mm, 3 µM). Positive ion mode under an MRM model gave a satisfying response value. The limits of quantitation were evaluated by accuracy from -12.59% to 7.89% and precision from 1.77% to 14.00% as well as acceptable interday and intraday precision, matrix effect, recovery, and stability. Later, the assay was successfully used to measure the concentrations of the determinands in the biological samples. Individual and tissue distribution differences for these metabolites were observable. The amino acids had a consistent highest content in the spleens, while the lowest levels were found in the livers. Alanine was the most abundant amino acid in the serum, and taurine kept the highest content in all of the tissues. Trimethylamine oxide remained low level, especially in the liver samples.

Advances in in vivo C a 2 + imaging using miniatured microscopes have enabled researchers to study single-neuron activity in freely moving animals. Tools such as MiniAN and CalmAn have been developed to convert C a 2 + visual signals to numerical information, collectively referred to as CalV2N. However, substantial challenges remain in analyzing the large datasets generated by CalV2N, particularly in integrating data streams, evaluating CalV2N output quality, and reliably and efficiently identifying Ca2+ transients. In this study, we introduce CalTrig, an open-source graphical user interface (GUI) tool designed to address these challenges at the post-CalV2N stage of data processing. CalTrig integrates multiple data streams, including C a 2 + imaging, neuronal footprints, C a 2 + traces, and behavioral tracking, and offers capabilities for evaluating the quality of CalV2N outputs. It enables synchronized visualization and efficient C a 2 + transient identification. We evaluated four machine learning models (i.e., GRU, LSTM, Transformer, and Local Transformer) for C a 2 + transient detection. Our results indicate that the GRU model offers the highest predictability and computational efficiency, achieving stable performance across training sessions, different animals and even among different brain regions. The integration of manual, parameter-based, and machine learning-based detection methods in CalTrig provides flexibility and accuracy for various research applications. The user-friendly interface and low computing demands of CalTrig make it accessible to neuroscientists without programming expertise. We further conclude that CalTrig enables deeper exploration of brain function, supports hypothesis generation about neuronal mechanisms, and opens new avenues for understanding neurological disorders and developing treatments.

BACKGROUND: Colonoscopic enteral tube placement using current methods has some shortcomings, such as the complexity of the procedure and tube dislodgement. The magnetic navigation technique (MNT) has been proven effective for nasoenteral feeding tube placement, and is associated with reduced cost and time to initiation of nutrition. This study attempted to develop a novel method for enteral tube placement using MNT. METHODS: The MNT device consisted of an external magnet and a 12 Fr tube with a magnet at the end. Ten swine were used, and bowel cleansing was routinely performed before colonoscopy. Intravenous anesthesia with propofol and ketamine was administered. A colonoscopic enteral tube was placed using the MNT. The position of the end of the enteral tube was determined by radiography, and angiography was performed to check for colonic perforations. Colonoscopy was used to detect intestinal mucosal damage after tube removal. RESULTS: MNT-assisted colonoscopic enteral tube placement was successfully completed in all pigs. The median operating time was 30 (26-47) min. No colon perforation was detected on colonography after enteral tube placement, and no colonic mucosal bleeding or injury was detected after the removal of the enteral tube. CONCLUSIONS: MNT-assisted colonoscopic enteral tube placement is feasible and safe in swine and may represent a valuable method for microbial therapy, colonic drainage, and host-microbiota interaction research in the future.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The weight-adjusted waist index (WWI) is a novel indicator of obesity, and its association with mortality in stroke patients remains unknown. We aimed to explore these associations through a national longitudinal cohort study. METHODS AND RESULTS: We included stroke survivors from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 1999-2018 who were followed up until December 31, 2019. The study outcomes were all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in stroke patients. A total of 1427 stroke patients were enrolled, and after a median follow-up duration of 83 months, 624 stroke patients died, including 251 from CVD. KaplanâMeier survival analyses indicated that WWI was significantly associated with the probability of survival over time in stroke patients (log-rank tests, both p < 0.0001). After adjusting for confounders, WWI was significantly and positively associated with all-cause and CVD mortality after stroke. Restricted cubic spline analysis revealed that WWI was linearly associated with all-cause mortality and nonlinearly associated with CVD mortality. Stratified analyses suggested that sex significantly influenced the effect of WWI on all-cause mortality in stroke patients. Additional body mass index (BMI) adjustments did not significantly change the results. CONCLUSION: WWI was positively associated with all-cause and CVD mortality in stroke patients, independent of BMI. These effects were present only in men. These findings suggest that WWI is an independent prognostic factor in stroke patients and that maintaining appropriate WWI values can help improve the prognosis of stroke survivors.

Monitoring the building blast vibration signal is an efficient way to determine the power of blast vibration hazards. Due to the harsh measurement environment, noise is inevitably introduced into the recorded signals. This research presents a denoising approach based on Improved complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition with adaptive noise(ICEEMDAN) and Composite Multiscale Permutation Entropy (CMPE). First, the noisy blast vibration signal is decomposed into different intrinsic mode functions using ICEEMDAN; then multiple intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) are separated into pure and noisy using CMPE, the noisy IMFs are denoised using wavelet thresholding; finally the blast wave is reconstructed using the pure and denoised mixed IMFs. The proposed approach was compared with four other approaches (CEEMDAN-CMPE, VMD-CMPE, SVMD-CMPE, and WST). The results indicate that the proposed approach has better performance and can be considered as an effective denoising method for building blast vibration signals.

Background: Obstructive nephropathy (ON), resulting from hindered urine flow, significantly contributes to both acute kidney injury (AKI) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Research has consistently highlighted increased lymphatic vessels (LVs) density in diverse kidney diseases. However, the precise involvement of LVs in ON remains unclear. Methods: Patients diagnosed with ON were enrolled in this study from January 2020 to December 2023. LVs and histological pathology in renal biopsy tissues were detected through immunohistochemistry and Periodic Acid-Schiff staining. Patients were categorized into two cohorts based on their estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) levels: one cohort included patients with eGFR < 90, while the other encompassed those with eGFR ≥ 90. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted to determine the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the association between the two cohorts. Results: 239 patients were enrolled in the study. The density of LVs was elevated in ON, with even higher densities observed in patients with severe renal impairment. Additionally, several risk factors contributing to the deterioration of renal function in ON patients have been identified, including age, ureteral calculi (UC), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and uric acid (UA). Furthermore, by leveraging LVs density, multiple robust models have been established to predict severe renal impairment in ON. Conclusions: Lymphatic vessels density is significantly elevated in ON, serving as an independent risk factor for the decline in renal function.

Lactobacillus casei Zhang (Lac.z), isolated from traditional sour horse milk in Inner Mongolia, can alleviate various diseases and promote health. Our previous studies found that pretreatment with live Lac.z (L-Lac.z) could significantly attenuate acute kidney injury and delay the progression of chronic renal fibrosis. However, it is unknown whether these effects could be maintained by pasteurized Lac.z (P-Lac.z). Mouse models of acute kidney injury and chronic renal fibrosis induced by renal bilateral ischemia-reperfusion (BIR) surgery were treated with L-Lac.z or P-Lac.z by gavage. Serum and kidney samples were collected to analyze the extent of renal injury and fibrosis, and proteomics was used to explore the potential mechanisms underlying the differences in the effects of the two forms of Lac.z. The results revealed that treatment with L-Lac.z led to a reduction in serum urea nitrogen levels and in less renal tubular injury and subsequent renal fibrosis after BIR-induced renal injury, whereas these effects were not observed in the P-Lac.z group. Proteomic analysis revealed 19 up-regulated proteins and 39 down-regulated proteins in the P-Lac.z group, and these gene products were associated with growth and stress resistance. The specific nephroprotective effects of L-Lac.z may be independent of the interaction of live probiotics with the host.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Malnutrition is prevalent among hospitalised patients, and increases the morbidity, mortality, and medical costs; yet nutritional assessments on admission are not routine. This study assessed the clinical and economic benefits of using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based rapid nutritional diagnostic system for routine nutritional screening of hospitalised patients. METHODS: A nationwide multicentre randomised controlled trial was conducted at 11 centres in 10 provinces. Hospitalised patients were randomised to either receive an assessment using an AI-based rapid nutritional diagnostic system as part of routine care (experimental group), or not (control group). The overall medical resource costs were calculated for each participant and a decision-tree was generated based on an intention-to-treat analysis to analyse the cost-effectiveness of various treatment modalities. Subgroup analyses were performed according to clinical characteristics and a probabilistic sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the influence of parameter variations on the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER). RESULTS: In total, 5763 patients participated in the study, 2830 in the experimental arm and 2933 in the control arm. The experimental arm had a significantly higher cure rate than the control arm (23.24% versus 20.18%; p = 0.005). The experimental arm incurred an incremental cost of 276.52 CNY, leading to an additional 3.06 cures, yielding an ICER of 90.37 CNY. Sensitivity analysis revealed that the decision-tree model was relatively stable. CONCLUSION: The integration of the AI-based rapid nutritional diagnostic system into routine inpatient care substantially enhanced the cure rate among hospitalised patients and was cost-effective. Compound hot-dry events cause more severe impacts on terrestrial ecosystems than dry events, while the differences in recovery time (ΔRT) between hot-dry and dry events and their contributing factors remain unclear. Both remote sensing observations and eddy covariance measurements reveal that hot-dry events prolong the recovery time compared with dry events, with greater prolongation of recovery time in drylands than in humid regions. Random forest regression modeling demonstrates that the difference in vapor pressure deficit between hot-dry and dry events, with an importance score of 35%, is the major factor contributing to ΔRT. The severity of stomatal restriction exceeds that of non-stomatal limitation, which restricts the vegetation productivity that is necessary for the recovery process. These results emphasize the negative effect of vapor pressure deficit on vegetation recovery during hot-dry events and project an extension of drought recovery time considering elevated vapor pressure deficit in a warming world.

STUDY QUESTION: Does exposure to a mixture of ambient air pollutants during specific exposure periods influence clinical pregnancy rates in women undergoing IVF/ICSI-embryo transfer (ET) cycles? SUMMARY ANSWER: The specific exposure period from ET to the serum hCG test was identified as a critical exposure window as exposure to sulfur dioxide (SO2) or a combination of air pollutants was associated with a decreased likelihood of clinical pregnancy. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Exposure to a single pollutant may impact pregnancy outcomes in women undergoing ART. However, in daily life, individuals often encounter mixed pollution, and limited research exists on the effects of mixed air pollutants and the specific exposure periods. STUDY DESIGN SIZE DURATION: This retrospective cohort study involved infertile patients who underwent their initial IVF/ICSI-ET cycle at an assisted reproduction center between January 2020 and January 2023. Exclusions were applied for patients meeting specific criteria, such as no fresh ET, incomplete clinical and address information, residency outside the 17 cities in the Sichuan Basin, age over 45 years, use of donor semen, thin endometrium (<8 mm) and infertility factors unrelated to tubal or ovulation issues. In total, 5208 individuals were included in the study. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS SETTING METHODS: Daily average levels of six air pollutants (fine particulate matter (PM2.5), inhalable particulate matter (PM10), SO2, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), and ozone (O3)) were acquired from air quality monitoring stations. The cumulative average levels of various pollutants were determined using the inverse distance weighting (IDW) method across four distinct exposure periods (Period 1: 90 days before oocyte retrieval; Period 2: oocyte retrieval to ET; Period 3: ET to serum hCG test; Period 4: 90 days before oocyte retrieval to serum hCG test). Single-pollutant logistic regression, two-pollutant logistic regression, Quantile g-computation (QG-C) regression, and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) were employed to evaluate the influence of pollutants on clinical pregnancy rates. Stratified analyses were executed to discern potentially vulnerable populations. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE: The clinical pregnancy rate for participants during the study period was 54.53%. Single-pollutant logistic models indicated that for PM2.5 during specific exposure Period 1 (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.70-0.99) and specific exposure Period 4 (aOR = 0.83, 95% CI: 0.69-0.98), and SO2 in specific exposure Period 3 (aOR = 0.92, 95% CI: 0.86-0.99), each interquartile range (IQR) increment exhibited an association with a decreased probability of clinical pregnancy. Consistent results were observed with dual air pollution models. In the multi-pollution analysis, QG-C indicated a 12% reduction in clinical pregnancy rates per IQR increment of mixed pollutants during specific exposure Period 3 (aOR = 0.89, 95% CI: 0.79-0.99). Among these pollutants, SO2 (33.40%) and NO2 (33.40%) contributed the most to the negative effects. The results from BKMR and QG-C were consistent. Stratified analysis revealed increased susceptibility to ambient air pollution among individuals who underwent transfer of two embryos, those with BMI ≥ 24 kg/m2 and those under 35 years old. LIMITATIONS REASONS FOR CAUTION: Caution was advised in interpreting the results due to the retrospective nature of the study, which was prone to selection bias from non-random sampling. Smoking and alcohol, known confounding factors in IVF/ICSI-ET, were not accounted for. Only successful cycles that reached the hCG test were included, excluding a few patients who did not reach the ET stage. While IDW was used to estimate pollutant concentrations at residential addresses, data on participants' work locations and activity patterns were not collected, potentially affecting the accuracy of exposure prediction. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS: Exposure to a mixture of pollutants, spanning from ET to the serum hCG test (Period 3), appeared to be correlated with a diminished probability of achieving clinical pregnancy. This association suggested a potential impact of mixed pollutants on the interaction between embryos and the endometrium, as well as embryo implantation during this critical stage, potentially contributing to clinical pregnancy failure. This underscored the importance of providing women undergoing ART with comprehensive information to comprehend the potential environmental influences and motivating them to adopt suitable protective measures when feasible, thereby mitigating potential adverse effects of contaminants on reproductive health. BACKGROUND: Maternal lipid metabolism has been implicated in elevating the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes, which is a particularly significant concern in twin pregnancies. However, the precise relationship between early pregnancy dyslipidemia and the risk of preterm birth (PTB) in twin pregnancies remains unclear. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study included women with twin pregnancies between January 2018 and December 2023. Early pregnancy blood lipid profiles, including total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), triglyceride (TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), were examined. Dyslipidemia was diagnosed based on the diagnostic criteria outlined in the 2016 guidelines for the prevention and treatment of dyslipidemia in Chinese adults. PTB was defined as birth occurring before 37 weeks of pregnancy. Logistic regression models were used to evaluate the association of early pregnancy dyslipidemia with PTB in twin pregnancies. RESULTS: A total of 613 women with twin pregnancies were included, and 141 women were complicated with dyslipidemia. The incidence of PTB < 37 weeks was significantly higher in the dyslipidemia group compared to the group without dyslipidemia (64.5% vs. 50.4%, P = 0.003). After adjusting for confounding factors, dyslipidemia was positively associated with PTB < 37 weeks (adjusted odds ratio: 1.71; 95% confidence interval: 1.13-2.58). However, these associations varied depending on the chorionicity and mode of conception of the twins. The positive associations between early pregnancy dyslipidemia and PTB < 37 weeks remained significant only in spontaneously conceived (SC) or dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancies. No statistically significant associations were observed between dyslipidemia and the other secondary outcomes. CONCLUSION: Early pregnancy dyslipidemia was positively associated with PTB < 37 weeks in twin pregnancies, and this association remained significant in SC or DCDA twin pregnancies. Comprehensive lipid profile assessment in the first trimester may be beneficial for patients' monitoring and implementing interventions to mitigate adverse pregnancy outcomes.

The exploration of novel two-dimensional (2D) materials with a direct band gap and high mobility has attracted huge attention due to their potential application in electronic and optoelectronic devices. Here, we propose a feasible way to construct multiatomic monolayer Ca2A2Z5 (A = Al and Ga and Z = S, Se, and Te) by first-principles calculations. Our results indicated that the energies of α1-phase Ca2A2Z5 are slightly lower than those of experimentally synthesized α3-phase-like Ca2A2Z5 monolayers with excellent structural stability. Moreover, the α1- and α3-phase Ca2A2Z5 monolayers possess not only direct band gaps but also high electron mobilities (up to â¼103 cm2 V-1 s-1), demonstrating an intriguing range of visible light absorption. Importantly, α1- and α3-phase Ca2Ga2Se5 monolayers are good donor materials, and the corresponding Ca2Ga2Se5/ZrSe2 type-II heterostructures exhibit desirable power conversion efficiencies of 22.4% and 22.9%, respectively. Our findings provide a feasible way to explore new 2D materials and offer several Ca2A2Z5 candidate monolayers for the application of high-performance solar cells.

BACKGROUND: Drug addiction is a significant public health concern, and aggression is common among people with drug addiction. Despite mounting evidence showing that the Dark Triad is a risk factor for aggression, the mediating and moderating mechanisms underlying this relationship are less known. This study tested the mediation effect of self-control in the association between the Dark Triad and aggression and whether this mediation was moderated by physical exercise. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in two compulsory drug rehabilitation centers in Nanning, China. A convenience sample of 564 drug abstainers completed a questionnaire to assess their Dark Triad, self-control, aggression, and physical exercise levels. Mediation and moderation analyses were carried out in SPSS macro-PROCESS. RESULTS: Self-control partially mediated the positive association between the Dark Triad and aggression. Physical exercise moderated the indirect effect of the Dark Triad on aggression via self-control, with the effect decreasing with the increase in physical exercise levels. CONCLUSIONS: This study offers fresh insights into the underlying mediating and moderating mechanisms between the Dark Triad and aggression. The findings provide important practical implications for future intervention and prevention programs to address aggression among drug abstainers, which may be realized through strengthening self-control and physical exercise.

BACKGROUND: Serum fibrinogen/albumin ratio (FAR) is a new inflammatory marker related to a variety of diseases, and it has been shown to be associated with stroke. This study is to investigate the relationship between serum FAR and early neurological deterioration (END) in patients with recent small subcortical infarction (RSSI). PATIENTS AND METHODS: Consecutive RSSI patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2015 to June 2022 were enrolled. The National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) was utilized to evaluate the severity of the patients at admission and within seven days post-admission. END was defined as an increase of ≥2 points in NIHSS score from admission or ≥1 point in the motor item of the score within seven days post-admission. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was employed to identify risk factors for END. The correlation between FAR and END was investigated using restricted cubic spline (RCS) analysis. Subgroup analysis was used to assess stability across different populations. RESULTS: A total of 766 RSSI patients were included in the analysis, with 538 males (70.24%). END occurred in 115 (15.01%) patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that FAR (OR = 1.016, 95%CI: 1.005-1.028), PAD (OR = 1.805, 95%CI: 1.161-2.807) and age (OR = 1.028, 95%CI: 1.009-1.048) were associated with END in RSSI patients. RCS analysis indicated a linear correlation between FAR and END (p for nonlinear = .128). Subgroup analysis indicated association between FAR and END in male (OR = 1.02, 95%CI: 1.00-1.03), patients aged ≤65 years (OR = 1.02, 95%CI: 1.00-1.03) and patients without smoking history (OR = 1.02, 95%CI: 1.00-1.03). CONCLUSIONS: Elevated FAR levels were associated with the occurrence of END within seven days after admission in RSSI patients, especially in men, age ≤65 years, or patients without smoking history.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are essential measure for preserving the balance between human well-being and natural ecosystems. The benefit of preserving ecosystems health play a crucial role in promoting the SDGs by providing stable ecosystem services (ESs). However, the ecological health of mountainous cities is vulnerable, with relative low ecological resilience. To investigate the conflict between ecosystems and sustainable development, this study takes the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration as the study area. The major tasks and results in this study include: (1) using the entropy weighting method and the InVEST model, we combined remote sensing, geographic, and statistical data to quantify three types of SDGs (economic, social, environmental) and four ESs (water yield, soil conservation, habitat quality, carbon storage), and establish a localized sustainable development assessment framework that is applicable to the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration. The results show that from 2014 to 2020, the three types of SDGs exhibited an overall upward trend, with the lowest values occurring in 2016. The gap between different counties has narrowed, but significant regional differences still remain, indicating an unbalanced development status quo. Among the 142 counties, water yield and soil conservation values show a consistent downward trend but occupies significant interannual variations, while habitat quality and carbon storage values increases consistently each year. (2) using Spearman's nonparametric correlation analysis and multiscale geographically weighted regression model to explore the temporal variation and spatial heterogeneity of correlations between county ESs and SDGs. The results showed significant heterogeneity in the spatial trade-offs and synergies between ESs and SDGs, with two pairs of synergies weakening, seven pairs of trade-offs increasing, and the strongest negative correlation between Economic Sustainable Development Goals and habitat quality. (3) we applied the self-organizing mapping neural networks to analyze the spatial clustering characteristics of ESs-SDGs. Based on the spatial clustering effects, we divides the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration into four zones, and different zones have different levels of ESs and SDGs. The targeted strategies should be adopted according to local conditions. This work is of great practical importance in maintaining the stability and sustainable development of the Chengdu-Chongqing Urban Agglomeration ecosystem and provides a scientific reference for the optimal regulation of mountainous cities.

Oxygen therapy is widely used in clinical practice; however, prolonged hyperoxia exposure may result in hyperoxic acute lung injury (HALI). In this study, we investigated the role of FAM134B in hyperoxia-induced apoptosis, cell proliferation, and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) using RLE-6TN cells and rat lungs. We also studied the effect of CeO2-NPs on RLE-6TN cells and lungs following hyperoxia exposure. FAM134B was inhibited in RLE-6TN cells and rat lungs following hyperoxia exposure. Overexpressing FAM134B promoted cell proliferation, and reduced EMT and apoptosis following hyperoxia exposure. FAM134B activation increased ER-phagy, decreased apoptosis, improved lung structure damage, and decreased collagen fiber deposition to limit lung injury. These effects could be reversed by PI3K/AKT pathway inhibitor LY294002. Additionally, CeO2-NPs protected RLE-6TN cells and lung damage following hyperoxia exposure by ameliorating impaired ER-phagy. Therefore, FAM134B restoration is a potential therapeutic target for the HALI. Moreover, CeO2-NPs can be used for the treatment of HALI.
