RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) refers to bleeding within the brain's ventricular system, and hydrocephalus is a life-threatening complication of IVH characterized by increased cerebrospinal fluid accumulation in the ventricles resulting in elevated intracranial pressure. IVH poses significant challenges for healthcare providers due to the complexity of the underlying pathophysiology and lack of standardized treatment guidelines. Herein, we performed a systematic review of the treatment strategies for hydrocephalus secondary to IVH. METHODS: This systematic review was prospectively registered with PROSPERO (CRD42023450786). The search was conducted in PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science on July 15, 2023. We included original studies containing valid information on therapy management and outcome of hydrocephalus secondary to primary, spontaneous, and subarachnoid or intracranial hemorrhage following IVH in adults that were published between 2000 and 2023. Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) or modified Ranking Scale (mRS) scores during follow-up were extracted as primary outcomes. The risk of bias was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale for Cohort Studies or Cochrane Risk of Bias 2.0 Tool. RESULTS: Two hundred and seven patients from nine published papers, including two randomized controlled trials, were included in the analysis. The GOS was used in five studies, while the mRS was used in four. Seven interventions were applied, including craniotomy for removal of hematoma, endoscopic removal of hematoma with/without endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV), traditional external ventricular drainage (EVD), and various combinations of EVD, lumbar drainage (LD), and intraventricular fibrinolysis (IVF). Endoscopic removal of hematoma was performed in five of nine studies. Traditional EVD had no obvious benefit compared with new management strategies. Three different combinations of EVD, LD, and IVF demonstrated satisfactory outcomes, although more studies are required to confirm their reliability. Removal of hematoma through craniotomy generated reliable result. Generally, endoscopic removal of hematoma with ETV, removal of hematoma through craniotomy, EVD with IVF, and EVD with early continuous LD were useful. CONCLUSION: EVD is still crucial for the management of IVH and hydrocephalus. Despite a more reliable result from the removal of hematoma through craniotomy, a trend toward endoscopic approach was observed due to a less invasive profile.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Healthcare workers (HCWs) are at increased risk of contracting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as well as worsening mental health problems and insomnia. These problems can persist for a long period, even after the pandemic. However, less is known about this topic. AIM: To analyze mental health, insomnia problems, and their influencing factors in HCWs after the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS: This multicenter cross-sectional, hospital-based study was conducted from June 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023, which was a half-year after the end of the COVID-19 emergency. Region-stratified population-based cluster sampling was applied at the provincial level for Chinese HCWs. Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and insomnia were evaluated by the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7, Patient Health Questionnaire-9, and Insomnia Severity Index. Factors influencing the symptoms were identified by multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS: A total of 2000 participants were invited, for a response rate of 70.6%. A total of 1412 HCWs [618 (43.8%) doctors, 583 (41.3%) nurses and 211 (14.9%) nonfrontline], 254 (18.0%), 231 (16.4%), and 289 (20.5%) had symptoms of anxiety, depression, and insomnia, respectively; severe symptoms were found in 58 (4.1%), 49 (3.5%), and 111 (7.9%) of the participants. Nurses, female sex, and hospitalization for COVID-19 were risk factors for anxiety, depression, and insomnia symptoms; moreover, death from family or friends was a risk factor for insomnia symptoms. During the COVID-19 outbreak, most [1086 (76.9%)] of the participating HCWs received psychological interventions, while nearly all [994 (70.4%)] of them had received public psychological education. Only 102 (7.2%) of the HCWs received individual counseling from COVID-19. CONCLUSION: Although the mental health and sleep problems of HCWs were relieved after the COVID-19 pandemic, they still faced challenges and greater risks than did the general population. Identifying risk factors would help in providing targeted interventions. In addition, although a major proportion of HCWs have received public psychological education, individual interventions are still insufficient.

RESUMO

AIM: The objective of this study is to evaluate the mean body mass index (BMI), general obesity and abdominal obesity in adults aged ≥40 years residing in China in 2020, and to analyse variations in these factors across different geographic areas and subpopulations. METHODS: We utilized data from the National Stroke High-Risk Population Screening programme to calculate and compare the mean BMI and prevalence of obesity across various demographics, including sex, age, urban-rural locality, geographical region (province) and ethnicity status. RESULTS: In our study, we found that the standardized mean BMI level was 24.65 kg/m2 [95% confidence interval (CI): 24.50-22.84] in men and 24.31 kg/m2 (95% CI: 24.15-24.45) in women. Using the criteria from China, we found that the standardized prevalence of general obesity and abdominal obesity was 13.13% (95% CI: 13.05-13.21%) and 33.03% (95 CI: 32.92-33.14%), respectively. Our study also identified significant effects of age, sex, urban-rural locality, province and ethnicity status on the prevalence of obesity. Overall, our study estimated that in 2020, approximately 91.1 million adults aged ≥40 years in China were obese (46.5 million men and 44.6 million women), while 229.2 million adults (110.4 million men and 118.8 million women) were diagnosed with abdominal obesity. CONCLUSION: Our research has revealed compelling new evidence about the obesity epidemic among Chinese adults aged ≥40 years, particularly at the provincial and ethnic levels. As a result, more targeted and effective prevention strategies should be developed to alleviate the burden of obesity.

RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to evaluate recent trends in physical inactivity prevalence by sociodemographic characteristics and the province of China's residence between 2013 and 2019. METHODS: The study included 4,229,616 participants 40 yr or older from 414 geographically defined localities in China during the 7-yr period. Self-reported total physical inactivity was collected to determine the standardized prevalence of physical inactivity. Logistic regression analysis was used to examine the association between physical inactivity and stroke risk, obtaining odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). RESULTS: Results showed that the standardized prevalence of physical inactivity increased from 22.12% (95% CI = 21.99%-22.45%) in 2013 to 28.79% (95% CI = 28.48%-29.19%) in 2019, with an absolute difference of 6.67% (95% CI = 6.15% to 7.16%) and a yearly increase rate of 5.03% (95% CI = 4.85% to 5.21%). In 2019, physical inactivity was higher in female and rural participants (female = 29.55%, rural = 29.46%) than in male and urban participants (male = 28.03%, urban = 28.26%). The prevalence of physical inactivity also varied by race/ethnic groups, with the highest prevalence observed among Uyghur (47.21%) and the lowest among Yizu (14.84%). Additionally, the prevalence of physical inactivity differed by province, ranging from 14.44% in Beijing to 50.09% in Tianjin in 2019. Multivariate analyses showed that physical inactivity was associated with a higher risk of stroke (OR = 1.17, 95% CI = 1.12-1.21, P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, our study found an overall increase in physical inactivity prevalence among Chinese adults ≥40 yr old from 2013 to 2019, with significant variation across regions, sex, ages, and race/ethnic groups.

RESUMO

Recent studies of exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have indicated high potential clinical applications in many diseases. However, the limited source of MSCs impedes their clinical research and application. Most recently, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have become a promising source of MSCs. Exosome therapy based on iPSC-derived MSCs (iMSCs) is a novel technique with much of its therapeutic potential untapped. Compared to MSCs, iMSCs have proved superior in cell proliferation, immunomodulation, generation of exosomes capable of controlling the microenvironment, and bioactive paracrine factor secretion, while also theoretically eliminating the dependence on immunosuppression drugs. The therapeutic effects of iMSC-derived exosomes are explored in many diseases and are best studied in wound healing, cardiovascular disease, and musculoskeletal pathology. It is pertinent clinicians have a strong understanding of stem cell therapy and the latest advances that will eventually translate into clinical practice. In this review, we discuss the various applications of exosomes derived from iMSCs in clinical medicine.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of ambient temperature and altitude exposure on the burden of stroke in a Chinese cohort. METHODS: This study was conducted using data from the National Stroke High-Risk Population Screening System 2020, which assess the overall prevalence, incidence, and mortality rate of stroke in China. For this study, we obtained the annual mean ambient temperature, diurnal temperature range, and altitude for each city. Body mass index (BMI) of participants were calculated. RESULT: The sample comprised 676,394 adults aged 40 years or older from 170 cities in 31 provinces in China. A negative linear relationship between mean ambient temperature and stroke risk (incidence and prevalence) as well as a negative association between mean ambient temperature and stroke mortality had been found. A nonlinear relationship with decreased risk in both high and low diurnal temperature range is observed for stroke burden (incidence, prevalence, and mortality). There is no significant correlation between city altitude and stroke burden. The U-shaped relationships of BMI with the incidence and prevalence of stroke indicate that the lowest incidence and prevalence are observed when BMI is approximately 20. CONCLUSION: Overall, our study provides important insights into the environmental and individual factors that contribute to the burden of stroke in China, and may inform public health interventions aimed at reducing this burden.

RESUMO

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and invasive primary central nervous system tumor. The prognosis after surgery, radiation and chemotherapy is very poor. Bromodomain (BRD) proteins have been identified in oncogenic rearrangements, and play a key role in the development of multiple cancers. However, the relationship between BET proteins and prognosis of GBM are still worth exploring, and the distinct functions of BET proteins and tumor immunology in GBM have not been fully elucidated. Therefore, it is particularly important to develop effective biomarkers to predict the prognosis of GBM patients. Methods: Metascape, David, Kaplan-Meier Plotter, Oncomine, GEPIA, TCGA, TIMER, and LinkedOmics databases were used to assess the expression and prognosis for BET proteins in GBM. ROC analysis of risk model was established to identify the correlation between BET genes and overall survival in GBM patients. TIMER and GEPIA databases were used to comprehensively investigate the correlation between BET genes and tumor immune infiltration cells. Moreover, the image of immunohistochemistry staining of BET proteins in normal tissue and tumor tissue were retrived from the HPA database. In addition, differential analysis and pathway enrichment analysis of BRD4 gene expression profile were also carried out. Finally, immune-fluorescence and Western blot were used to clarify the expression of BRD4 in GBM cells. Results: Bioinformatics analysis showed that the expression levels of BET genes in GBM may play an important role in oncogenesis. Specifically, bioinformatic and immunohistochemistry analysis showed that BRD4 protein was more highly expressed in tumor tissues than that in normal tissues. The high expression of BRD4 was associated with poor prognosis in GBM. The expression of BET genes were closely related to the immune checkpoint in GBM. The correlation effect of BRD4 was significantly higher than other BET genes, which represented negative correlation with immune checkpoint. The expression of BRD4 was positively associated with tumor purity, and negatively associated with immune infiltration abundance of macrophage, neutrophil and CD8+ T-cell, respectively. Cox analysis showed that the model had good survival prediction and prognosis discrimination ability. In addition, the expression levels of BRD4 protein was significantly higher in U-251 MG cells than that in normal cells, which was consistent with the results of bioinformatics data. Conclusion: This study implied that BRD4 could be hopeful prognostic biomarker in GBM. The increased expression of BRD4 may act as a molecular marker to identify GBM patients with high-risk subgroups. BRD4 may be a valuable prognostic biomarker, and a potential target of precision therapy against GBM.

RESUMO

Solid polymer electrolytes suffer from the low ionic conductivity and poor capability of suppressing lithium dendrites, which have greatly hindered the practical application of solid-state lithium-metal batteries. Here, we report a novel laponite sheet (LS) with a large negatively charged surface as an additive in a solid composite electrolyte (poly(ethylene oxide)-LS) to rearrange the lithium-ion environment and enhance the mechanical strength of the electrolytes (PEO-LS). The strong electrostatic regulation of laponite sheets assists the dissociation of lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) and constructs multiple transport channels for free lithium ions, achieving a high ionic conductivity of 1.1 × 10-3 S cm-1 at 60 °C. Furthermore, LS facilitates the in situ formation of a LiF-rich interface because of the boosting TFSI- anion concentration, which significantly suppresses lithium dendrites and prevents short circuit. As a result, the assembled LiFePO4|PEO-LS|Li battery demonstrates a long cycle life of over 800 cycles and a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.9% at 1C and 60 °C. When paired with a high-voltage NCM811 cathode, the battery also demonstrates excellent cycling stability and rate capability.

RESUMO

Hb variants prevalent in China are different from those in other countries. We aimed to assess the interference from Hb variants found in China on HbA1c measurement. All Hb variants were confirmed using Sanger sequencing. HbA1c was measured using a capillary electrophoresis method (Capillarys 3 OCTA), two cation-exchange high-performance liquid chromatography methods (ADAMS HA-8180V and HLC-723 G8 standard mode), an immunoassay (Cobas c501), and a boronate affinity chromatography method (Premier Hb9210). Premier Hb9210 was used as a comparative method. A total of 16 species of Hb variants were identified in 102 variant carriers. The most common variant was Hb E, followed by Hb Q-Thailand, Hb New York and Hb J-Bangkok. Clinically significant interference was observed for the Capillarys 3 OCTA (two Hb variants), ADAMS HA-8180V (seven Hb variants), HLC-723 G8 (14 Hb variants), and Cobas c501 (two Hb variants). The proportion of unacceptable HbA1c results was 13.7% for Capillarys 3 OCTA, 52.9% for HA-8180V, 83.3% for HLC-723 G8, and 3.9% for Cobas c501. Hb variants in China severely affect the accuracy of some commonly used HbA1c methods.

RESUMO

Background: Parasellar chondrosarcomas are extremely rare. This study describes the characteristics of parasellar chondrosarcoma and analyzes the risk factors and prognosis based on the resection degree. Methods: Fifteen patients with pathologically diagnosed parasellar chondrosarcoma were retrospectively analyzed for the clinical data, surgical methods, and prognosis to identify relationships between the surgical resection degree, tumor recurrence, and imaging characteristics. Results: Twelve patients had eye dysfunction and ptosis. Differentiation from other parasellar tumors by imaging is difficult. The preoperative Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) score positively correlated with the tumor resection degree (p = 0.026) and negatively correlated with the maximum tumor diameter (p = 0.001). Tumor recurrence negatively correlated with the resection degree (p = 0.009). The postoperative KPS score positively correlated with the preoperative KPS score (p < 0.001) and tumor resection degree (p = 0.026), and negatively correlated with the maximum tumor diameter (p = 0.016) and age (p = 0.047). An improved KPS score positively correlated with the tumor resection degree (p = 0.039). Patients who underwent total resection of the chondrosarcoma had longer progression-free survival than those who underwent partial resection (p = 0.0322). Conclusion: Parasellar chondrosarcomas are difficult to resect completely. Preoperative KPS score is an important factor for the degree of resection. KPS score, age, maximum tumor diameter, and resection degree may be important prognostic factors.

RESUMO

In this work, nickel (Ni) doped Cu-BTC derived CuCoO2 (CCO) was successfully synthesized by a solvothermal method, and the effects of Ni doping concentration (such as 1 at%, 3 at% and 5 at%) on the crystal structure, morphology, composition and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalytic performance of CuCoO2 were investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) were carried out to characterize the crystal structure, morphology and chemical composition of CuCoO2 crystals. The results show that Ni ions have been successfully doped into the CuCoO2 crystal structure and this Ni introduction can reduce its grain size, and 5 at% Ni doped CCO (5NCCO) nanosheets exhibit an average particle size of 386 nm with thicknesses around 28 nm. The optimal Ni@5NCCO electrode needs an overpotential of 409 mV to generate a current density of 10 mA cm-2 and is able to sustain galvanostatic OER electrolysis for 18 hours with only a minor degradation of 30 mV. The enhanced OER performance may be due to the increase in the catalytic activity area and the improvement in conductivity, which is caused by a decrease in grain size and the formation of a porous structure for Ni doped Cu-BTC derived CuCoO2.

RESUMO

Objective: The outcome of surgical treatment for thalamic tumors is poor. Hydrocephalus is one of the most frequent postoperative complications after unilateral thalamic tumor resection. This study examined the relationship between surgical approaches, pathological grade, image characteristics, preoperative complications, extent of resection, and incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus. Methods: The study retrospectively reviewed clinical data from 80 patients who underwent resection of thalamic tumors between 2015 and 2021. Data on patient survival and disease progression status were obtained retrospectively to calculate overall survival (OS) and progression free survival (PFS). Results: No patients died during the perioperative period and two patients suffered postoperative coma. Tumors were totally resected in 44 cases (55 %), subtotally resected in 21 cases (26.25 %), and partially resected in 15 cases (18.75 %). Thirty-five cases of hydrocephalus occurred within 1 month after operation(43.75%). Surgical approaches associated with hydrocephalus were as follows: hydrocephalus occurred in seven cases after trans-frontal lateral ventricle approach for tumor resection (62.9%), in 17 cases after through parieto-occipital transventricular approach tumor resection (43.58%), and in one case after trans-frontal lateral ventricle approach for tumor resection + third ventriculostomy (7.1%). Postoperative muscle strength decrease occurred in 41 patients (51.25%). Longer PFS and OS were correlated with degree of resection in patients with thalamic glioblastoma (P < 0.05) and had no relationship with hydrocephalus. Conclusion: Surgical treatment of thalamic tumors is an effective therapeutic method. The incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus is not associated with tumor size, degree of tumor enhancement, peritumoral edema, tumor invasion, midline crossing, and pathological grade. The incidence of postoperative hydrocephalus was higher in patients with preoperative hydrocephalus and low resection degree, and lower in patients with endoscopic third ventriculostomy. The risk of early postoperative hydrocephalus in thalamic tumors is high. Intraoperative third ventriculostomy could reduce the incidence of early postoperative hydrocephalus. PFS and OS were longer in patients with thalamic glioblastoma with a high resection degree (P < 0.05) and were not associated with hydrocephalus.

RESUMO

Although there is no shortage of research on the markers for stroke, to our knowledge, there are no clear markers that can meet the needs of clinical prediction and treatment. The inflammatory cascade is a critical process that persists and functions throughout the stroke process, ultimately worsening stroke outcomes and increasing mortality. Numerous inflammatory factors, including tumor necrosis factor (TNF), are involved in this process. These inflammatory factors play a dual role during stroke, and their mechanisms are complex. As one of the representatives, TNF is the primary regulator of the immune system and plays an essential role in the spread of inflammation. In researches done over the last few years, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) has emerged as a potential marker for stroke because of its essential role in stroke. This review summarizes the latest research on TNF-α in stroke and explores its potential as a therapeutic target.

RESUMO

China is undergoing great social changes, and its demographic makeup is shifting every year along with those changes. China released key indicators from the seventh national population census on 12 May 2021. The total population of China's mainland increased to 1.41178 billion in 2020 from 1.33972 billion in 2010 (sixth national population census) with an average annual growth rate of 0.53%. In the past 10 years, the share of the population aged above 60 and 65 years increased by 5.44% (from 13.26% in 2010 to 18.70% in 2020) and 4.6% (from 8.9 to 13.5%), respectively. The share of the population with a college education or above rose from 8.93% in 2010 to 15.47% in 2020, and the illiteracy rate dropped from 4.08% in 2010 to 2.67% in 2020. In the next decade, China is likely to face many changes, including the increasing proportion of older adults in the population, declining births, and economic transformation. In an effort to respond to the changed demographic landscape, the authorities should adopt new laws and strategies to improve government services for older adults and consider ways to support women and families and make childbearing more attractive to and feasible for women.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Although recent studies have focused on the use of metformin in treating ischemic stroke, there is little literature to support whether it can treat intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Therefore, this study is aimed at evaluating the possible effects of prestroke metformin (MET) on ICH patients with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: From January 2010 to December 2019, all first-ever ICH patients with type 2 diabetes from our hospitals were included. All discharged patients would receive a one-time follow-up at 1 year after admission. Death, disability, and recurrence events were recorded. RESULTS: We included 730 patients for analysis (the median age: 65 [IQR, 56-72] years and 57.7% was men). Of those patients, 281 (38.5%) had received MET before ICH (MET+), whereas 449 (61.5%) had not (MET-). MET (+) patients had a lower median baseline hematoma volume than did MET (-) patients (9.6 ml [IQR, 5.3-22.4 ml] vs. 14.7 ml [IQR, 7.9-28.6 ml]; P < 0.001). The inhospital mortality events were not significantly reduced in the MET (+) group compared with the MET (-) group (6.4% vs 8.9%, respectively; absolute difference, -2.5% [95% CI, -3.9% to -0.7%]; OR, 0.70 [95% CI, 0.39 to 1.27]; P = 0.22). The 1-year mortality events were not significantly reduced in the MET (+) group compared with the MET (-) group (14.1% vs 17.4%, respectively; absolute difference, -3.3% [95% CI, -5.1% to -1.8%]; OR, 0.73 [95% CI, 0.47 to 1.14]; P = 0.16). The 1-year disability events were not significantly reduced in the MET (+) group compared with the MET (-) group (28.4% vs 34.1%, respectively; absolute difference, -5.7% [95% CI, -8.2% to -3.3%]; OR, 0.77 [95% CI, 0.52 to 1.13]; P = 0.18). Finally, the recurrence rates in those two groups were not significantly different (MET [+] vs. MET [-]: 6.4% vs. 5.9%; absolute difference, 0.5% [95% CI, 0.2% to 1.3%]; OR, 1.08 [95% CI, 0.51 to 2.28]; P = 0.84). CONCLUSIONS: Pre-ICH metformin use was not associated with inhospital mortality and 1-year prognosis in diabetic ICH patients.

RESUMO

Ca doped CuScO2 (CSO) delafossite oxides of 3-4 µm were synthesized through the hydrothermal method using Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, Sc(NO3)3·xH2O as the precursor at 240 °C for 24 h in this work. The influence of the process parameters (reaction temperature, Cu/Sc molar ratios, EG (ethylene glycol) quantity, NaOH mineralizer, reactant concentration) on the structure and morphology of CSO was studied systematically. The crystal structure, morphology, and chemical composition of these Ca doped CSO (0, 1 at%, 3 at%, and 5 at%) sheets were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). With increasing Ca dopant, the Ca doped CSO sheets become much thinner; the thickness decreased from 568 nm (CSO) to 190 nm (3 at% Ca doped CSO). Moreover, the conductivity of Ca doped CSO sheets decreased with increasing Ca dopant. The CSO powders (19.91 S m-1) have higher conductivity than Ca doped CSO sheets (9.89, 15.69, and 16.51 S m-1) at room temperature. All these CSO based samples exhibit a weak absorption ability with the absorptance around 20-40% in the visible light region (400-780 nm). The optical band gap values exhibited a blue shift with increasing Ca dopant. The calculated band gaps of Ca-doped CSO sheets are 3.88 eV, 3.91 eV, 3.90 eV and 3.93 eV, respectively. This result indicates that all these CSO based samples have potential applications as p-type transparent materials in optoelectronic devices, owing to their comparable optical transmittance in the UV-vis region.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: To evaluate the prevalence of and risk factors associated with anxiety, depression, and insomnia symptoms during the return-to-work period of coronavirus disease 2019 in China. METHODS: The authors conducted a large-scale, nationwide, multicenter, cross-sectional study in China. A population-based quota and snowball sampling were designed to recruit a representative sample. Online questionnaires and telephone reviews were used to collect characteristics and assess psychological and sleep problems. Anxiety, depression, and insomnia symptoms were measured by the generalized anxiety disorder-7, patient health questionnaire-9, and insomnia severity index tools. RESULTS: A total of 42,000 participants were recruited from 15 centers, and 36,795 valid questionnaires were received. Generally, 18.3, 14.9, and 17.9% of the participants had anxiety, depression, and insomnia symptoms, respectively, and 2.2-2.7% had severe symptoms. Engaging in outside activity once in ≥ 30 days (OR = 2.719, OR = 2.074, OR = 2.225) and age 50-64 years (OR = 2.431, OR = 1.936, OR = 2.036) were common risk factors for anxiety, depression and insomnia symptoms. Living in Hubei Province (OR = 1.304, OR = 1.242) was a common risk factor for anxiety and insomnia symptoms. Working as frontline medical staff (OR = 2.150) was another risk factor for anxiety symptoms. The health education rate of the samples reached 98.9%. However, the psychological intervention rate was only 16.2%, and 2.5% received targeted interventions. CONCLUSIONS: An increasing number of people might have psychological and sleep problems. However, the current psychological interventions are not sufficient. Efforts should be made to strengthen interventions for high-risk populations.

RESUMO

Studies have extensively focused on the involvement of microRNAs (miRNAs) in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury but not much on the specific role of miR-20a. Hence, this study is purposed to decipher whether miR-20a could regulate cadherin 1 (CDH1) to affect cerebral I/R injury in rats. Rat transient middle cerebral artery occlusion model (MCAO) was established. Rats were injected with lentiviral solution containing miR-20a inhibitor, or overexpressed CDH1 or combined depleted miR-20a and CDH1 to explore their roles in cerebral I/R injury. Oxidative stress-related factors, miR-20a, CDH1, nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-κB) and Nestin expression in brain tissues were detected by RT-qPCR and western blot assay. The target relation between miR-20a and CDH1 was predicted by online website and further confirmed by luciferase activity assay. In rats with cerebral I/R injury, increased miR-20a and decreased CDH1 were found in brain tissues. Reduction of miR-20a or elevation of CDH1 attenuated behavior function in MCAO rats. Inhibiting miR-20a or restoring CDH1 restrained oxidative stress, attenuated pathological damage of neurons, promoted neuron survival, and down-regulated NF-κB and Nestin expression in brain tissues of MCAO rats. CDH1 was determined to a target gene of miR-20a. This study elucidates that down-regulating miR-20a elevates CDH1 to protect neurons from cerebral I/R injury, which paves a new way for treatment of cerebral I/R injury.
