RESUMO

The Li-CO2 batteries utilizing greenhouse gas CO2 possess advantages of high energy density and environmental friendliness. However, these batteries following Li2CO3-product route typically exhibit low work voltage (<2.5 V) and energy efficiency. Herein, we have demonstrated for the first time that cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc) as homogeneous catalyst can elevate the work plateau towards 2.98 V, which is higher than its theoretical discharge voltage without changing the Li2CO3-product route. This unprecedented discharge voltage is illustrated by mass spectrum and electrochemical analyses that CoPc has powerful adsorption capability with CO2 (-7.484 kJ/mol) and forms discharge intermediate of C33H16CoN8O2. Besides high discharge capacity of 18724 mAh/g and robust cyclability over 1600 hours (1000 mAh/g cut-off) at a current density of 100 mA/g , the batteries show high temperature adaptability (-30~80 °C). Our work is paving a promising avenue for the progress of high-efficiency Li-CO2 batteries.

Five pairs of new merosesquiterpenoid enantiomers, named dauresorcinols A-E (1-5), were isolated from the leaves of Rhododendron dauricum. Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis, quantum chemical calculations, Rh2(OCOCF3)4-induced ECD, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Dauresorcinols A (1) and B (2) possess two new merosesquiterpene skeletons bearing an unprecedented 2,6,7,10,14-pentamethyl-11-oxatetracyclo[8.8.0.02,7.012,17]octadecane and a caged 15-isohexyl-1,5,15-trimethyl-2,10-dioxatetracyclo[7.4.1.111,14.03,8]pentadecane motif, respectively. Plausible biosynthetic pathways of 1-5 are proposed involving key oxa-electrocyclization and Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement reactions. (+)/(-)-1 and 3-5 showed potent α-glucosidase inhibitory activity, 3 to 22 times stronger than acarbose, an antidiabetic drug targeting α-glucosidase. Docking results provide a basis to design and develop merosesquiterpenoids as potent α-glycosidase inhibitors.

BACKGROUND: Though deep learning has consistently demonstrated advantages in the automatic interpretation of breast ultrasound images, its black-box nature hinders potential interactions with radiologists, posing obstacles for clinical deployment. METHODS: We proposed a domain knowledge-based interpretable deep learning system for improving breast cancer risk prediction via paired multimodal ultrasound images. The deep learning system was developed on 4320 multimodal breast ultrasound images of 1440 biopsy-confirmed lesions from 1348 prospectively enrolled patients across two hospitals between August 2019 and December 2022. The lesions were allocated to 70% training cohort, 10% validation cohort, and 20% test cohort based on case recruitment date. RESULTS: Here, we show that the interpretable deep learning system can predict breast cancer risk as accurately as experienced radiologists, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.902 (95% confidence interval = 0.882 - 0.921), sensitivity of 75.2%, and specificity of 91.8% on the test cohort. With the aid of the deep learning system, particularly its inherent explainable features, junior radiologists tend to achieve better clinical outcomes, while senior radiologists experience increased confidence levels. Multimodal ultrasound images augmented with domain knowledge-based reasoning cues enable an effective human-machine collaboration at a high level of prediction performance. CONCLUSIONS: Such a clinically applicable deep learning system may be incorporated into future breast cancer screening and support assisted or second-read workflows.


Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers, and finding it early can greatly improve patients' chances of survival and recovery. We create a tool based on artificial intelligence (AI)­whereby computer software learns to perform tasks that normally require human thinking­called MUP-Net. MUP-Net can analyze medical images to predict a patient's risk of having breast cancer. To make this AI tool usable in clinical practice, we enabled doctors to see the reasoning behind the AI's predictions by visualizing the key image features it analyzed. We showed that our AI tool not only makes doctors more confident in their diagnosis but also helps them make better decisions, especially for less experienced doctors. With further testing, our AI tool may help clinicians to diagnose breast cancer more accurately and quickly, potentially improving patient outcomes.

This paper investigates a method for precise mapping of human arm movements using sEMG signals. A multi-channel approach captures the sEMG signals, which, combined with the accurately calculated joint angles from an Inertial Measurement Unit, allows for action recognition and mapping through deep learning algorithms. Firstly, signal acquisition and processing were carried out, which involved acquiring data from various movements (hand gestures, single-degree-of-freedom joint movements, and continuous joint actions) and sensor placement. Then, interference signals were filtered out through filters, and the signals were preprocessed using normalization and moving averages to obtain sEMG signals with obvious features. Additionally, this paper constructs a hybrid network model, combining Convolutional Neural Networks and Artificial Neural Networks, and employs a multi-feature fusion algorithm to enhance the accuracy of gesture recognition. Furthermore, a nonlinear fitting between sEMG signals and joint angles was established based on a backpropagation neural network, incorporating momentum term and adaptive learning rate adjustments. Finally, based on the gesture recognition and joint angle prediction model, prosthetic arm control experiments were conducted, achieving highly accurate arm movement prediction and execution. This paper not only validates the potential application of sEMG signals in the precise control of robotic arms but also lays a solid foundation for the development of more intuitive and responsive prostheses and assistive devices.

Cancer metastasis is the major cause of death in patients with breast cancer (BC). The liver is a common site of breast cancer metastasis, and the 5-year survival rate of patients with breast cancer liver metastases (BCLMs) is only about 8.5 %. CircRNAs are involved in a variety of cancer-related pathological behaviors, and their unique structure and resistance to RNA degradation enable them to serve as ideal diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets. Therefore, it is important to investigate the role and molecular mechanism of circRNAs in cancer metastasis. CircLIFR-007 was identified as a critical circular RNA in BC metastasis by circRNAs microarray and qRT-PCR experiment. Cell function assays were performed to explore the effect of circLIFR-007 in breast cancer cells. Experiments in vivo validated the function of circLIFR-007. Several molecular assays were performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms. We found that circLIFR-007 acted as a negative controller in breast cancer liver metastasis. CircLIFR-007 upregulates the phosphorylation level of YAP by exporting hnRNPA1 to promote the combination between hnRNPA1 and YAP in the cytoplasm. Overexpression of circLIFR-007 suppressed the expression of liver metastasis-related proteins, SREBF1 and SNAI1, which were regulated by transcription factor YAP. Functionally, circLIFR-007 inhibits the proliferation and metastasis of breast cancer cells both in vivo and in vitro.

Thirteen diterpenoids (1-13), classified into four structurally diverse carbon skeletons, including 1,5-seco-kalmane (1 and 6), grayanane (2-11), kalmane (12), and rhodomollane (13), were isolated from the flowers extract of Rhododendron molle. Among them, rhodomollinols A - E (1-5) were five new diterpenoids and their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic methods including HRESIMS, UV, IR, 1D and 2D NMR, as well as quantum ECD calculations. Rhodomollinol A (1) is the first representative of a 6-deoxy-1,5-seco-kalmane diterpenoid. The abnormal NMR phenomenon of the presence of only 9 carbon resonances instead of 20 carbons in the 13C NMR spectrum of 1 was observed and elucidated by the quantum NMR calculations. All diterpenoids 1-13 showed significant analgesic activities in an acetic acid-induced writhing model. It's the first time to report the analgesic activity of a rhodomollane-type diterpenoid. At a dose of 1.0 mg/kg, diterpenoids 1-3, 6, 8, 9, and 12 reduced the writhe numbers with inhibition rates over 50%, and 9 exhibited stronger analgesic activity with a writhe inhibition rate of 89.7% than that of the positive control morphine. Importantly, even at the lowest dose of 0.04 mg/kg, rhodomollinols A (1) and B (2), rhodomollein X (7), and 2-O-methylrhodojaponin VI (9) still showed more potent analgesic effects than morphine with the writhe inhibition rates of 51.8%, 48.0%, 61.7%, and 60.0%, respectively. A preliminary structure-activity relationship might provide some clues to design potential analgesics on the basis of structurally diverse Ericaceae diterpenoids.

Prosocial behavior is a common and important aspect of everyday social life. To behave prosocially, we need to learn the consequences of our actions for other people, known as prosocial learning. Previous studies have identified the right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ) as the critical neurological substrate for prosocial behavior. However, little is known about the causal role of the rTPJ in prosocial learning. To clarify the role of the rTPJ in prosocial learning, we used a reinforcement learning paradigm and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). A total of 75 participants were recruited and randomly assigned to the anodal or sham tDCS group. While receiving tDCS stimulation over the rTPJ, participants were instructed to choose between different stimuli that were probabilistically associated with rewards for themselves in the self-learning condition or for another person in the prosocial-learning condition. Participants were able to learn to obtain rewards for themselves or others, and learning performance in the self-learning condition was better than that in the prosocial-learning condition. However, anodal tDCS over the rTPJ significantly improved learning performance in the prosocial-learning condition. These results indicate that the rTPJ plays a causal role in prosocial learning.

A systematical investigation on the chemical constituents of the flowers of Rhododendron molle (Ericaceae) led to the isolation and characterization of thirty-eight highly functionalized grayanane diterpenoids (1-38), including twelve novel analogues molleblossomins A-L (1-12). Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive methods, including 1D and 2D NMR analysis, calculated ECD, 13C NMR calculations with DP4+ probability analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Molleblossomins A (1), B (2), and E (5) are the first representatives of 2ß,3ß:9ß,10ß-diepoxygrayanane, 2,3-epoxygrayan-9(11)-ene, and 5,9-epoxygrayan-1(10),2(3)-diene diterpenoids, respectively. Molleblossomins G (7) and H (8) represent the first examples of 1,3-dioxolane-grayanane conjugates furnished with the acetaldehyde and 4-hydroxylbenzylidene acetal moieties, respectively. All grayanane diterpenoids 1-38 were screened for their analgesic activities in the acetic acid-induced writhing model, and all of them exhibited significant analgesic activities. Diterpenoids 6, 13, 14, 17, 20, and 25 showed more potent analgesic effects than morphine at a lower dose of 0.2 mg/kg, with the inhibition rates of 51.4%, 68.2%, 94.1%, 66.9%, 97.7%, and 60.0%, respectively. More importantly, even at the lowest dose of 0.04 mg/kg, rhodomollein X (14), rhodojaponin VI (20), and rhodojaponin VII (22) still significantly reduced the number of writhes in the acetic acid-induced pain model with the percentages of 61.7%, 85.8%, and 64.6%, respectively. The structure-activity relationship was summarized and might provide some hints to design novel analgesics based on the functionalized grayanane diterpenoids.

Although COVID-19 vaccines are an effective public health tool to combat the global pandemic, serious adverse events, such as hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), caused by them are a concern. In this systematic review, cases of HLH reported after COVID-19 vaccination have been examined to understand the relationship between the two and propose effective therapeutic strategies. Furthermore, ruxolitinib's potential as a cytokine inhibitor and its affinity for CD25 were initially assessed through molecular docking, aiming to aid targeted HLH therapy. PubMed and Web of Science databases were searched for published individual case reports on the occurrence of HLH after the administration of any COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 17 articles (25 patients) were included in this qualitative analysis. Furthermore, molecular docking was employed to investigate the therapeutic potential of ruxolitinib for HLH after COVID-19 vaccination. The mean age of patients who developed HLH after COVID-19 vaccination was 48.1 years. Most HLH episodes occurred after the BNT162b2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccination (14/25 cases) and to an extent after the ChAdOx1 nCov-19 vaccination (5/25 cases). Almost all affected patients received steroid and antibiotic therapy. Three patients died despite treatment because of esophagus rupture, neutropenic fever, bacteroides bacteremia, refractory shock, and encephalopathy and shock. Visual docking results of IL-2 Rα and ruxolitinib using the Discovery Studio 2019 Client software yielded a model score of 119.879. The findings highlight the importance of considering and identifying the adverse effects of vaccination and the possibility of using ruxolitinib for treating HLH after COVID-19 vaccination.

Corals play a crucial role as the primary habitat-building organisms within reef ecosystems, forming expansive structures that extend over vast distances, akin to the way tall buildings define a city's skyline. However, coral reefs are vulnerable to damage and destruction due to their inherent fragility and exposure to various threats, including the impacts of climate change. Similar to successful city management, the utilization of advanced underwater videography, photogrammetric computer vision, and machine learning can facilitate precise 3D modeling and the semantic mapping of coral reefs, aiding in their careful management and conservation to ensure their survival. This study focuses on generating detailed 3D mesh models, digital surface models, and orthomosaics of coral habitats by utilizing underwater coral images and control points. Furthermore, an innovative multi-modal deep neural network is designed to perform the pixel-wise semantic segmentation of orthomosaics, enabling the projection of resulting semantic maps onto a 3D space. Notably, this study achieves a significant milestone by accomplishing semantic fine-grained 3D modeling and rugosity evaluation of coral reefs with millimeter-level accuracy, providing a potent means to understand coral reef variations under climate change with high spatial and temporal resolution.

Altruism is defined as the performance of "costly acts that confer economic benefits on other individuals", which is one of the major puzzles in the behavioural sciences today. Altruistic behaviour not only facilitates interpersonal adaptation and harmony but also enhances social welfare and social responsibility. The right temporo-parietal junction (rTPJ) has been proposed as playing a key role in guiding human altruistic behaviour, but its precise functional contribution to altruistic behaviour in situations of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to modulate the activation of the rTPJ through transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in order to clarify the causal role of the rTPJ in altruistic behaviour in situations of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity. A total of 106 participants were randomly assigned to one of three stimulation conditions: anodal tDCS stimulation on the rTPJ; sham tDCS stimulation on the rTPJ and anodal tDCS stimulation on the primary visual cortex (VC)as the control group, and. After 20 min of stimulation, participants undertook a modified dictator game that measured altruistic behaviour. Mixed-effect logistic regressions were applied to statistical analyses in this study. The results indicated that anodal tDCS over the rTPJ increased participants' altruistic tendency by increasing their tendency to choose altruistic options in trials with higher cost, as well as their tendency to behave altruistically in situations of advantageous but not disadvantageous inequity. These results suggested that increased neural activity of the rTPJ leads to different impacts on altruism in these two different inequity situations.

Twenty-eight grayanane diterpenoids (1-28) including 13 new ones, named daublossomins A-M (1-13), and two new natural products, 3-O-acetylgrayanotoxin II (14) and 10-epi-grayanotoxin III (15), were isolated from the flowers of Rhododendron dauricum L. (Ericaceae). Their structures were elucidated by means of comprehensive spectroscopic methods and quantum chemical calculations (13C NMR-DP4+ analysis and calculated ECD), and the absolute configurations of ten grayanane diterpenoids 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 22, 23, 25, 27, and 28 were determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Daublossomin A (1) represents the first example of an 11,16-epoxygrayan-6-one diterpenoid. Daublossomins B (2) and C (3) are the first examples of 9ß,10ß-epoxygrayanane diterpenoids, and daublossomin I (9) is the second conjugated grayan-1(5),6(7),9(10)-triene diterpenoid. Compounds 1-11 and 13-27 were evaluated for their analgesic activities in the HOAc-induced writhing test in mice, and 1-8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 18, 22-24, and 26 exhibited significant analgesic effects at a dose of 5.0 mg/kg (inhibition rates > 50%). Among them, daublossomins A (1) and F (6) still showed potent analgesic activity even at a lower dose of 0.2 mg/kg with the inhibition rates of 54.4% and 55.2%, respectively. Grayanotoxin III (20) showed more potent analgesic activities than the positive control, morphine, at a dose of 0.04 mg/kg. A preliminary structure-activity relationship for the analgesic grayanane diterpenoids was discussed, providing some useful clues to design and develop structurally novel potent analgesics.

Altruism is highly valued and cherished by human society. However, human preferences and behavior are sensitive to inequality considerations. Currently, remarkably little is known about the neurobiological mechanisms underlying the process of altruistic acts in inequity situations. Therefore, to clarify the causal role of the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (rDLPFC) in altruism during situations of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity, we applied transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to demonstrate the involvement of the rDLPFC in altruism in situations of inequity. A total of 71 participants (38 female and 33 male) received anodal tDCS at 1.5 mA over the rDLPFC (n = 38) or the primary visual cortex (n = 33) and subsequently participated in a modified dictator game that measures altruism. We found that anodal tDCS over the rDLPFC decreased subjects' sensitivity to altruistic efficiency and cost in situations of advantageous inequity. Our results suggested that the rDLPFC plays an important role in overriding self-interest to enforce altruism in situations of advantageous inequity.

In this study, a novel supramolecular solvent based on surface-active ionic liquid was prepared and used as an extraction solvent for dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction of four triazine herbicides in tea samples. The formation mechanism, microstructure and physicochemical properties of supramolecular solvent were studied. Some parameters, including the molar ratio of surface-active ionic liquid to tetrahydrofuran, volume of supramolecular solvent, vortex time, pH of sample solution, type and amount of salt, were investigated and optimized. The good linearities (r > 0.9990) for the analytes were obtained. The limits of detection and quantification for triazine herbicides were in the range of 1.7-2.1 µg kg-1 and 5.6-7.1 µg kg-1, respectively. The spiked recoveries were 80.0-119.9 %. The supramolecular solvent prepared in this study has the advantages of simple preparation process, low viscosity and good dispersibility. It can be used for the extraction and enrichment of trace triazine herbicides in tea samples.

Human beings have a strong preference for the fair distribution of resources in situations of both advantageous and disadvantageous inequity. Neuroimaging studies have shown that the process of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity aversion involves distinct brain regions. However, little is known about the causal roles of the dorsal medial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) in these two types of inequity aversion. To clarify the roles of the dmPFC in both types of inequity aversion, 70 subjects were recruited and randomly assigned to two anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) groups: tDCS over the dmPFC and tDCS over the primary visual cortex. Participants then completed a dictator game, which was used to measure the aversion to inequity. This study found that tDCS over the dmPFC decreased the aversion to disadvantageous inequity, but not that to advantageous inequity, and the treatment effect was modulated by equity cost. These results show that the dmPFC plays different roles in these two types of inequity aversion.

Background: Nanocomposite hydrogels (NHs) are stable composite materials formed by dispersing nanomaterials in hydrogels and have broad development prospects in the biomedical field. In this study, we aimed to systematically and comprehensively evaluate the trends and hot spots of biomedical applications of NHs from 2010 to 2022. Methods: In total, 713 articles and reviews related to NH applications in the biomedical field from 2010 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC). Two scientometric software programs, VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel 2019, were used to visually perform bibliometric analysis in terms of research trends, sources, the contribution of journals, co-citation, and the co-occurrence of keywords. Results: From 1 January 2010 to 3 February 2022, the number of annual scientific publications about NHs exhibited an upward trend, and research articles were published in a larger proportion (more than 77%). The top three countries in NH research were China, the United States, and India. Meanwhile, Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Tshwane University of Technology were the most active and contributive. In the contribution of journals, the journal Advanced Functional Materials had the highest number of publications, and the journal Int J Biol Macro had the most citations. Varaprasad K was the most prolific author, and Haraguchi K ranked first among co-cited authors. In the ranking of frequency in the co-cited references, Nanocomposite Hydrogels for Biomedical Applications, published by Gaharwar AK, was the most frequently cited reference. The keyword with the highest frequency was "drug delivery." Conclusion: This study performed a full overview of NHs using bibliometrics and identified current trends and hot spots. This information may help researchers focusing on NHs to identify developments in this field.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening systemic hyperinflammatory syndrome. The central pathogenesis is an explosive cytokine storm characterized by a significant increase in proinflammatory cytokines, including IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-18, IFN-γ, and TNF-α. Meanwhile, negative regulatory factors, such as IL-10 and TGF-ß, are also related to the production of HLH. Exploring the specific mechanism of cytokine storms could provide ideas regarding targeted therapy, which could be helpful for early treatment to reduce the mortality of HLH. Although some research has focused on the advantages of targeted therapies, there is still a lack of a comprehensive discourse. This article attempts to summarize the mechanisms of action of various cytokines and provide a therapeutic overview of the current targeted therapies for HLH.

Maximizing tendency is a central decision-making concept that has increasingly drawn attention from the scientific community. It refers to individuals' predisposition to look for the best option instead of settling for something that merely passes an internal threshold of acceptability. Although this maximizing strategy intuitively increases individual benefits, it also has been linked to various negative outcomes, including decreased well-being and low life satisfaction, and it varies considerably across populations. However, the neuroanatomical characteristics underlying this heterogeneity remain poorly understood. To address this knowledge gap, a 13-item Maximization Scale and magnetic resonance imaging technique were respectively used in this study to estimate individual maximizing tendency and structural morphological information on a sample of healthy adults (n = 69). Furthermore, voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis was conducted to investigate the associations between gray matter volume (GMV) and maximizing tendency through univariate and multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA). Univariate analysis did not determine an association between maximizing tendency and whole-brain GMV; by contrast, MVPA revealed that maximizing tendency could be successfully predicted by the GMVs of the right inferior frontal gyrus (IFG), right insula, and right cerebellum. These findings suggest the critical role of the morphological characteristics of the cortical-subcortical circuitry in individuals' maximizing tendency.

The right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ) and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC), which are involved in social cognition, have been proposed to play key roles in guiding human altruistic behavior. However, no study has provided empirical evidence that the rTPJ and dmPFC play distinct roles in altruism under situations of inequality. A total of 107 healthy young adults were randomly assigned to receive anodal or sham transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to either the dmPFC or rTPJ, and they participated in a modified dictator game. The stimulation of the dmPFC increased the level of altruistic behavior, while the stimulation of the rTPJ did not. Furthermore, we determined that the increase in altruism induced by tDCS of the dmPFC could be modulated by perspective taking. These results demonstrate that the dmPFC and rTPJ play distinct roles in the enhancement of altruism in situations of inequality; this finding is consistent with theories proposing that the dmPFC has evolved mechanisms dedicated to perspective taking.

Fairness is a hallmark of humans' ability to maintain cooperative relationships with large numbers of unrelated others. It influences many aspects of daily life, from how people share their resources with partners to how policymakers shape income distribution policy. The right temporoparietal junction (rTPJ) is a hub of the mentalizing network and it has been proposed to play a key role in guiding human reciprocal behavior; however, its precise functional contribution to fair behavior in situations of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify the role of the rTPJ in relation to fair behavior in situations of advantageous and disadvantageous inequity by modulating the activation of the rTPJ through transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS). Anodal tDCS at 1.5 mA over the primary visual cortex (VC) or rTPJ was performed and participants subsequently played a binary-choice version of the Dictator Game. We found that anodal tDCS over the rTPJ increased the participants' equity choices in the disadvantageous inequity situation but not in the advantageous inequity situation. The tDCS effect is moderated by sex and, in particular, the tDCS effect increases female equity choices. The results suggest that the rTPJ plays a distinct role in inequity aversion in these two types of inequity situations.
