RESUMO

Regressing the accelerated degradation of skeletal muscle protein is a significant goal for cancer cachexia management. Here, we show that genetic deletion of Pgam5 ameliorates skeletal muscle atrophy in various tumor-bearing mice. pgam5 ablation represses excessive myoblast mitophagy and effectively suppresses mitochondria meltdown and muscle wastage. Next, we define BNIP3 as a mitophagy receptor constitutively associating with PGAM5. bnip3 deletion restricts body weight loss and enhances the gastrocnemius mass index in the age- and tumor size-matched experiments. The NH2-terminal region of PGAM5 binds to the PEST motif-containing region of BNIP3 to dampen the ubiquitination and degradation of BNIP3 to maintain continuous mitophagy. Finally, we identify S100A9 as a pro-cachectic chemokine via activating AGER/RAGE. AGER deficiency or S100A9 inhibition restrains skeletal muscle loss by weakening the interaction between PGAM5 and BNIP3. In conclusion, the AGER-PGAM5-BNIP3 axis is a novel but common pathway in cancer-associated muscle wasting that can be targetable. ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Qifu Yin (QFY) originates from "Jingyue Quanshu · Volume 51 · New Fang Bazhen · Buzhen" a work by Zhang Jingyue, a distinguished Chinese medical practitioner from the Ming Dynasty. QFY is composed of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, Rehmanniae Radix Praeparata, Angelicae Sinensis Radix, Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma Praeparata Cum Melle, Ziziphi Spinosae Semen, and Polygalae Radix. QFY is frequently employed to address memory loss and cognitive impairment stemming from vascular dementia, Alzheimer's disease (AD), and related conditions. Our findings indicate that QFY can mitigate nerve cell damage. Moreover, the study explores the impact of QFY on the calcium ion pathway and sphingolipid metabolism in mice with myocardial infarction, presenting a novel perspective on QFY's mechanism in ameliorating myocardial infarction through lipidomics. While this research provides an experimental foundation for the clinical application of QFY, a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of its improvement mechanism remains imperative. AIM OF THE STUDY: To clarify the regulatory mechanism of QFY on intestinal microecology in mice with memory impairment (MI). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The memory impairment mouse model was established by intraperitoneal injection of scopolamine hydrobromide. Kunming (KM) mice were randomly divided into blank group, Ginkgo tablet group (0.276 g/kg), QFY high, medium and low dose groups (17.2 g/kg, 8.6 g/kg, 4.3 g/kg). The effect on memory ability was evaluated by open field and step-down behavioral experiments. The morphological changes of nerve cells in the hippocampus of mice were observed by pathological method. The contents of superoxide dismutase (SOD), malondialdehyde (MDA), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) in the brain tissue of mice were detected. The expression levels of CREB, Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and Recombinant Amyloid Precursor Protein (APP) in the hippocampus of mice were determined using immunohistochemistry. The expression of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) and cAMP response element binding protein (CREB) related factors in the serum of mice was analyzed by ELISA. The levels of apoptosis signal-regulating kinase-1 (ASK1) and c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) mRNA in the hippocampus were detected by quantitative real-time fluorescence polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). The intestinal feces of mice were collected, and the 16 S rDNA technology was used to detect the changes in intestinal microbiota microecological structure of feces in each group. RESULTS: Behavioral experiments showed that the high-dose QFY group exhibited a significant increase in exercise time (P<0.05) and a decrease in diagonal time (P<0.05) compared to the model group. The medium-dose group of QFY showed a reduction in diagonal time (P<0.05). Additionally, the latency time significantly increased in the medium and high-dose groups of QFY (P<0.01). The number of errors in the low, medium and high dose groups was significantly decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.01). The nerve cells in the CA1 and CA3 regions of QFY-treated mice demonstrated close arrangement and clear structure. Furthermore, the content of SOD significantly increased (P<0.01) and the content of MDA significantly decreased (P<0.05) in the low and high-dose QFY groups. The content of CAT in the medium-dose group significantly increased (P < 0.05). Immunohistochemical analysis showed a significant reduction in the number of APP expression particles in the CA1 and CA3 regions of all QFY groups. Moreover, BDNF expression significantly increased in the medium and high-dose groups, while CREB expression significantly increased in the low and medium-dose groups of QFY within the CA1 and CA3 regions. Serum analysis revealed significant increases in CREB content in the low, medium, and high dose groups of QFY (P<0.01, P<0.05, P<0.05), and decreases in NMDAR content across all QFY dose groups (P<0.01). PCR analysis showed a significant decrease in the contents of ASK1 and JNK in the medium-dose group (P<0.01). Microecological analysis of intestinal microbiota demonstrated a significant restoration trend in the relative abundance of Fusobacteria, Planctomycetes, and Verrucomicrobia (P<0.01 or P<0.05) at the phylum level in the QFY groups. At the genus level, Akkermansia, Paramuribaculum, Herminiimonas, Erysipelatoclostridium and other genera in the QFY groups showed a significant trend of relative abundance restoration (P<0.01 or P<0.05). CONCLUSION: QFY can improve the memory of MI animals induced by scopolamine hydrobromide by restoring the homeostasis of intestinal microbiota and regulating related indexes in serum and brain tissue.

Preliminary investigations have demonstrated that the cysteines located at the C-terminus of HEV ORF2 protein exhibits disulfide bonding capability during virus-like particles (VLPs) assembly. However, the effect and mechanism underlying the pairing of disulfide bonds formed by C627, C630, and C638 remains unclear. The p222 protein encompasses C-terminus and serves as a representative of HEV ORF2 to investigate the specific impacts of C627, C630, and C638. The three cysteines were subjected to site-directed mutagenesis and expressed in prokaryotes; Both the mutated proteins and p222 underwent polymerization except for p222A; Surprisingly, only p222 was observed as abundant spherical particles under transmission electron microscope (TEM); Stability and immunogenicity of the p222 exhibited higher than other mutated proteins; LC/MS/MS analysis identified four disulfide bonds in the p222. The novel findings suggest that the three cysteines contribute to structural and functional properties of ORF2 protein, highlighting the indispensability of each cysteine.

RESUMO

NK/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is a highly aggressive malignant tumour with a very poor prognosis, which often poses diagnostic difficulties due to the non-specificity of its clinical presentation. NK/T-cell lymphoma with eosinophilic hyperplasia syndrome is extremely rare. This article describes a patient with NKTCL misdiagnosed as vasculitis who presented with sinusitis, abdominal pain, anorexia, and lung shadows. Additionally, the patient exhibited extremely high eosinophilia levels, which led to a further misdiagnosis of eosinophilic granuloma. We describe the clinical features, diagnostic methods and differential diagnosis of lymphoma and highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in accurate diagnosis and treatment.

BACKGROUND: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) is the most common malignant endocrine tumour, and its incidence and prevalence are increasing considerably. Cellular heterogeneity in the tumour microenvironment is important for PTC prognosis. Spatial transcriptomics is a powerful technique for cellular heterogeneity study. METHODS: In conjunction with a clinical pathologist identification method, spatial transcriptomics was employed to characterise the spatial location and RNA profiles of PTC-associated cells within the tissue sections. The spatial RNA-clinical signature genes for each cell type were extracted and applied to outlining the distribution regions of specific cells on the entire section. The cellular heterogeneity of each cell type was further revealed by ContourPlot analysis, monocle analysis, trajectory analysis, ligand-receptor analysis and Gene Ontology enrichment analysis. RESULTS: The spatial distribution region of tumour cells, typical and atypical follicular cells (FCs and AFCs) and immune cells were accurately and comprehensively identified in all five PTC tissue sections. AFCs were identified as a transitional state between FCs and tumour cells, exhibiting a higher resemblance to the latter. Three tumour foci were shared among all patients out of the 13 observed. Notably, tumour foci No. 2 displayed elevated expression levels of genes associated with lower relapse-free survival in PTC patients. We discovered key ligand-receptor interactions, including LAMB3-ITGA2, FN1-ITGA3 and FN1-SDC4, involved in the transition of PTC cells from FCs to AFCs and eventually to tumour cells. High expression of these patterns correlated with reduced relapse-free survival. In the tumour immune microenvironment, reduced interaction between myeloid-derived TGFB1 and TGFBR1 in tumour focus No. 2 contributed to tumourigenesis and increased heterogeneity. The spatial RNA-clinical analysis method developed here revealed prognosis-associated cellular heterogeneity in the PTC microenvironment. CONCLUSIONS: The occurrence of tumour foci No. 2 and three enhanced ligand-receptor interactions in the AFC area/tumour foci reduced the relapse-free survival of PTC patients, potentially leading to improved prognostic strategies and targeted therapies for PTC patients.

Distant metastasis is the main cause of death in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC). A better understanding of the mechanisms of metastasis can greatly improve the outcome of patients with CRC. Accumulating evidence suggests that circRNA plays pivotal roles in cancer progression and metastasis, especially acting as a miRNA sponge to regulate the expression of the target gene. A public database bioinformatics analysis found that miR-1825 was highly expressed in CRC tissues. In this study, miR-1825 was highly expressed in CRC tissues, which was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis and distant metastasis. In vitro and in vivo experiments confirmed that miR-1825 was positively correlated with the proliferation and migration of CRC cells. This event can be inhibited by circTBC1D22A. CircTBC1D22A can directly interact with miR-1825 and subsequently act as a miRNA sponge to regulate the expression of the target gene ATG14, which collectively advances the autophagy-mediated progression and metastasis of CRC.

Objective: Our aim is to investigate the cut-off point of distress and the influencing factors associated with distress in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of distress was conducted in 167 patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer admitted to the Department of General Surgery of a tertiary care hospital from July 2020 to March 2022. Patients completed the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Distress Thermometer (DT) questionnaire within 3 days of admission. The HADS ≥15 was used as the gold standard, and the cut-off point of the DT measure was analyzed using the Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. The cut-off point obtained by ROC curve analysis was used to analyze the influencing factors of distress in breast cancer patients by univariate and multivariate regression analysis. Results: A total of 167 patients completed the survey, with an average HADS score of 8.43 ± 5.84 and a total HADS score of ≥15 in 37 (22.16%) patients, the mean DT score was 2.96 ± 1.85. ROC curve analysis showed an area under the curve of 0.885, with a maximum Jorden index (0.723) at a DT score of 4, the sensitivity was 100.0% and specificity was 72.3%. There were 73 (43.71%) patients with DT score ≥ 4. Regression analysis showed that insurance/financial problems, dealing with partner problems, tension, bathing/dressing problems, pain, and sleep problems were independent risk factors for l distress in newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Conclusion: A DT score 4 is the cut-off point for distress in patients with newly diagnosed breast cancer. In clinical practice, target intervention should be carried out according to the risk factors of distress of patients.

OBJECTIVE: Dupilumab has been approved for the treatment of severe asthma with type 2 inflammation by inhibiting interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 signaling. However, dupilumab-induced hypereosinophilia (HE) has been reported and should not be ignored. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of dupilumab in Chinese patients with severe asthma, whether HE affects its efficacy, and the possible risk factors for HE. METHODS: 20 patients with severe asthma who received dupilumab treatment for at least 12 months in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from 2019 to 2022 were included. We compared clinical data and laboratory tests results before dupilumab treatment and at 4 and 12 months after treatment. Based on whether dupilumab treatment triggers HE defined as blood eosinophil count (BEC) ≥ 1.5 × 109 cells/L, the patients were allocated into non-HE and HE groups. RESULTS: The patients showed a significant increase in asthma control test (ACT) scores, a decrease in the number of exacerbations, a decrease in the proportion of patients taking an oral corticosteroid (OCS) and in the dose, and a significant improvement in the pulmonary function parameters FEV1/FVC (%) and FEV1 (% predicted) after 4 and 12 months of treatment with dupilumab. For type 2 inflammatory biomarkers, the levels of fractional concentration of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), sputum eosinophil count percentage (SEC%) and total immunoglobulin E (TIgE) decreased significantly, whereas BEC were higher after 4 months of treatment, but returned to baseline levels after 12 months. 8 patients (40%) developed asymptomatic HE after dupilumab, and the efficacy was not significantly different between the HE and non-HE groups. The earliest BEC elevation appeared at 1 month after treatment, but most of them declined after 6 months, and basically returned to the baseline level around 12 months of treatment. In addition, we further found that when patients had FeNO ≥ 60 ppb, food allergens positive and combined eosinophilic otitis media (EOM), their BEC increased significantly more than that of the control group after 4 months as well as 12 months of treatment. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that dupilumab was efficacious in Chinese patients with severe asthma, and some patients developed asymptomatic, self-limited HE, which did not affect its efficacy. Additionally, FeNO ≥60 ppb, food allergens positive, and co-morbidities with EOM may be the risk factors for developing HE.

Plant innate immunity mediated by the nucleotide-binding leucine-rich repeat (NLR) class of immune receptors plays an important role in defense against various pathogens. Although key biochemical events involving NLR activation and signaling have been recently uncovered, we know very little about the transcriptional regulation of NLRs and their downstream signaling components. Here, we show that the Toll-Interleukin 1 receptor homology domain containing NLR (TNL) gene N (Necrosis), which confers resistance to Tobacco mosaic virus, is transcriptionally induced upon immune activation. We identified two conserved transcription factors, N required C3H zinc finger 1 (NRZ1) and N required MYB-like transcription factor 1 (NRM1), that activate N in an immune responsive manner. Genetic analyses indicated that NRZ1 and NRM1 positively regulate coiled-coil domain-containing NLR- and TNL-mediated immunity and function independently of the signaling component Enhanced Disease Susceptibility 1. Furthermore, NRZ1 functions upstream of NRM1 in cell death signaling, and their gene overexpression induces ectopic cell death and expression of NLR signaling components. Our findings uncovered a conserved transcriptional regulatory network that is central to NLR-mediated cell death and immune signaling in plants.

Asthma is a common allergic disease characterized by airway hypersensitivity and airway remodeling. Ferroptosis is a regulated death marked by iron accumulation and lipid peroxidation. Several environmental pollutants and allergens have been shown to cause ferroptosis in epithelial cells, but the relationship between birch pollinosis and ferroptosis in asthma is poorly defined. Here, for the first time, we have identified ferroptosis of type II alveolar epithelial cells in mice with Bet v 1-induced asthma. Further analysis revealed that treatment with ferrostatin-1 reduced TH2/TH17-related inflammation and alleviated epithelial damage in mice with Bet v 1-induced asthma. In addition, ACSL4-knocked-down A549 cells are more resistant to Bet v 1-induced ferroptosis. Analysis of clinical samples verified higher serum MDA and 4-HNE concentrations compared to healthy individuals. We demonstrate that birch pollen allergen Bet v 1 induces ferroptosis underlaid TH2 and TH17 hybrid asthma. Lipid peroxidation levels can be considered as a biomarker of asthma severity, and treatment with a specific ferroptosis inhibitor could be a novel therapeutic strategy.

Nicotiana tabacum and Nicotiana benthamiana are widely used models in plant biology research. However, genomic studies of these species have lagged. Here we report the chromosome-level reference genome assemblies for N. benthamiana and N. tabacum with an estimated 99.5% and 99.8% completeness, respectively. Sensitive transcription start and termination site sequencing methods were developed and used for accurate gene annotation in N. tabacum. Comparative analyses revealed evidence for the parental origins and chromosome structural changes, leading to hybrid genome formation of each species. Interestingly, the antiviral silencing genes RDR1, RDR6, DCL2, DCL3, and AGO2 were lost from one or both subgenomes in N. benthamiana, while both homeologs were kept in N. tabacum. Furthermore, the N. benthamiana genome encodes fewer immune receptors and signaling components than that of N. tabacum. These findings uncover possible reasons underlying the hypersusceptible nature of N. benthamiana. We developed the user-friendly Nicomics (http://lifenglab.hzau.edu.cn/Nicomics/) web server to facilitate better use of Nicotiana genomic resources as well as gene structure and expression analyses.

Importance: China has experienced both rapid urbanization and major increases in myopia prevalence. Previous studies suggest that green space exposure reduces the risk of myopia, but the association between myopia risk and specific geometry and distribution characteristics of green space has yet to be explored. These must be understood to craft effective interventions to reduce myopia. Objective: To evaluate the associations between myopia and specific green space morphology using novel quantitative data from high-resolution satellite imaging. Design, Setting, and Participants: This prospective cohort study included students grades 1 to 4 (aged 6 to 9 years) in Shenzhen, China. Baseline data were collected in 2016-2017, and students were followed up in 2018-2019. Data were analyzed from September 2020 to January 2022. Exposures: Eight landscape metrics were calculated using land cover data from high-resolution Gaofen-2 satellite images to measure area, aggregation, and shape of green space. Main Outcome and Measures: The 2-year cumulative change in myopia prevalence at each school and incidence of myopia at the student level after 2 years were calculated as main outcomes. The associations between landscape metrics and school myopia were assessed, controlling for geographical, demographic, and socioeconomic factors. Principal component analyses were performed to further assess the joint effect of landscape metrics at the school and individual level. Results: A total of 138 735 students were assessed at baseline. Higher proportion, aggregation, and better connectivity of green space were correlated with slower increases in myopia prevalence. In the principal component regression, a 1-unit increase in the myopia-related green space morphology index (the first principal component) was negatively associated with a 1.7% (95% CI, -2.7 to -0.6) decrease in myopia prevalence change at the school level (P = .002). At the individual level, a 1-unit increase in myopia-related green space morphology index was associated with a 9.8% (95% CI, 4.1 to 15.1) reduction in the risk of incident myopia (P < .001), and the association remained after further adjustment for outdoor time, screen time, reading time, and parental myopia (adjusted odds ratio, 0.88; 95% CI, 0.80 to 0.97; P = .009). Conclusions and Relevance: Structure of green space was associated with a decreased relative risk of myopia, which may provide guidance for construction and renovation of schools. Since risk estimates only indicate correlations rather than causation, further interventional studies are needed to assess the effect on school myopia of urban planning and environmental designs, especially size and aggregation metrics of green space, on school myopia.

A supercritical fluid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (SFC-MS/MS) technique was developed for the rapid and simultaneous detection of nine pesticides (carbendazim, isoprocarb, paclobutrazol, isoprothiolane, flusilazole, quinalphos, piperonylbutoxide, propargite, and bioresmethrin) in rice, wheat, and maize. The cereal samples were extracted with a solution of 0.5% acetic acid in acetonitrile and purified using quick, easy, cheap, effective, rugged, and safe method. The samples were characterized using multi-reaction monitoring and quantified with the external standard method. Excellent linearities (R2  > 0.9991) and limits of quantification (0.4-40.0 µg/kg) were established for all nine pesticides. Satisfactory pesticide recovery rates (62.2%-107.4%) were obtained at three standard concentrations (50, 100, and 200 µg/kg), with relative standard deviations in the range of 2.1%-14.3%. The results confirmed that the proposed method was suitable for the routine detection of these pesticides in grain samples. Compared with high-performance liquid chromatography-MS/MS, the overall test run time and the amount of solvent required were reduced by 66% and 90%, respectively, when SFC-MS/MS was applied. Therefore, the use of SFC-MS/MS permits a shorter run time and affords greater analytical efficiency, such that it is both economical and environmentally sustainable.

Background: Doxorubicin is a widely used cytotoxic chemotherapy agent for treating different malignancies. However, its use is associated with dose-dependent cardiotoxicity, causing irreversible myocardial damage and significantly reducing the patient's quality of life and survival. In this study, an animal model of doxorubicin-induced cardiomyopathy was used to investigate the pathogenesis of doxorubicin-induced myocardial injury. This study also investigated a possible treatment strategy for alleviating myocardial injury through resveratrol therapy in vitro. Methods: Adult male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a control group and a doxorubicin group. Body weight, echocardiography, surface electrocardiogram, and myocardial histomorphology were measured. The mechanisms of doxorubicin cardiotoxicity in H9c2 cell lines were explored by comparing three groups (phosphate-buffered saline, doxorubicin, and doxorubicin with resveratrol). Results: Compared to the control group, the doxorubicin group showed a lower body weight and higher systolic arterial pressure, associated with reduced left ventricular ejection fraction and left ventricular fractional shortening, prolonged PR interval, and QT interval. These abnormalities were associated with vacuolation and increased disorder in the mitochondria of cardiomyocytes, increased protein expression levels of α-smooth muscle actin and caspase 3, and reduced protein expression levels of Mitofusin2 (MFN2) and Sirtuin1 (SIRT1). Compared to the doxorubicin group, doxorubicin + resveratrol treatment reduced caspase 3 and manganese superoxide dismutase, and increased MFN2 and SIRT1 expression levels. Conclusion: Doxorubicin toxicity leads to abnormal mitochondrial morphology and dysfunction in cardiomyocytes and induces apoptosis by interfering with mitochondrial fusion. Resveratrol ameliorates doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity by activating SIRT1/MFN2 to improve mitochondria function.

Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) agonists have shown potent anti-tumor efficacy in various mouse tumor models and have the potential to overcome resistance to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) by linking the innate and acquired immune systems. First-generation STING agonists are administered intratumorally; however, a systemic delivery route would greatly expand the clinical use of STING agonists. Biochemical and cell-based experiments, as well as syngeneic mouse efficacy models, were used to demonstrate the anti-tumoral activity of ALG-031048, a novel STING agonist. In vitro, ALG-031048 is highly stable in plasma and liver microsomes and is resistant to degradation via phosphodiesterases. The high stability in biological matrices translated to good cellular potency in a HEK 293 STING R232 reporter assay, efficient activation and maturation of primary human dendritic cells and monocytes, as well as long-lasting, antigen-specific anti-tumor activity in up to 90% of animals in the CT26 mouse colon carcinoma model. Significant reductions in tumor growth were observed in two syngeneic mouse tumor models following subcutaneous administration. Combinations of ALG-031048 and ICIs further enhanced the in vivo anti-tumor activity. This initial demonstration of anti-tumor activity after systemic administration of ALG-031048 warrants further investigation, while the combination of systemically administered ALG-031048 with ICIs offers an attractive approach to overcome key limitations of ICIs in the clinic.

Chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection remains a major global health burden. It affects more than 290 million individuals worldwide and is responsible for approximately 900,000 deaths annually. Anti-HBV treatment with a nucleoside analog in combination with pegylated interferon are considered first-line therapy for patients with chronic HBV infection and liver inflammation. However, because cure rates are low, most patients will require lifetime treatment. HBV Capsid Assembly Modulators (CAMs) have emerged as a promising new class of compounds as they can affect levels of HBV covalently closed-circular DNA (cccDNA) associated with viral persistence. SAR studies around the core structure of lead HBV CAM GLP-26 (Fig. 1B) was performed and led to the discovery of non-toxic compound 10a displaying sub-nanomolar anti-HBV activity. Advanced toxicity and cellular pharmacology profiles of compounds 10a were also established and the results are discussed herein.

Microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR), a representative cyanobacterial toxin, poses an increasing and serious threat to aquatic ecosystems. Despite investigating its toxic effects in various organisms and cells, the toxicity to tissue regeneration and stem cells in vivo still needs to be explored. Planarians are ideal regeneration and toxicology research models and have profound implications in ecotoxicology evaluation. This study conducted a systemic toxicity evaluation of MC-LR, including morphological changes, growth, regeneration, and the underlying cellular and molecular changes after MC-LR exposure, which were investigated in planarians. The results showed that exposure to MC-LR led to time- and dose-dependent lethal morphological changes, tissue damage, degrowth, and delayed regeneration in planarians. Furthermore, MC-LR exposure disturbed the activities of antioxidants, including total superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione S-transferase, and total antioxidant capacity, leading to oxidative stress and DNA damage, and then reduced the number of dividing neoblasts and promoted apoptosis. The results demonstrated that oxidative stress and DNA damage induced by MC-LR exposure caused apoptosis. Excessive apoptosis and suppressed neoblast activity led to severe homeostasis imbalance. This study explores the underlying mechanism of MC-LR toxicity in planarians and provides a basis for the toxicity assessment of MC-LR to aquatic organisms and ecological risk evaluation.

OPINION STATEMENT: Cardio-oncology is going under rapid development in various areas across an increasing number of provinces in China. However there are still a myriad of challenges that need to be overcome in order to ensure its gradual and consistent expansion. The Cardio-Oncology Knowledge Transfer Model (KTM) forms the basis to allow exponential development of effective cardio-oncology services. This would ensure the implementation of precision-based practice while dynamically evolving cardio-oncology to integrate both Western and Chinese medical practices to become an official clinical sub-speciality in its own right in China, for the ultimate benefit of the patient.
