RESUMO

Plant-microbe remediation technique is considered as a promising technology in removal of organic pollutants and its remediation efficiency is largely affected by a variety of surrounding environmental factors. Humic acid (HA) is the complex organic substance ubiquitous in environment, which characterized by its surfactant-like micelle microstructure and various reaction activity. In our study, a plant-microbe association with high p-tert-Butylphenol (PTBP) degradation potential constructed by Spirodela polyrhiza and Sphingobium phenoxybenzoativorans Tas13 has been used, and the influence of HA on the PTBP degradation efficiency of S. polyrhiza-Tas13 association was investigated. The result showed that the presence of HA greatly improved PTBP removal efficiency of S. polyrhiza-Tas13. The reason accounted for this may be due to the presence of HA promoted bacterial cell propagation, altered bacterial cell wall permeability, increased catechol 2,3-dioxygenase (C23O) enzyme activity of strain Tas13, rather than increasing the colonization ability of strain Tas13 on to the root surface. This study will greatly facilitate the application of aquatic plant-microbe association in environmental remediation.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Livable environment and ways, as the necessary conditions for the elderly to enjoy their old age, have a significant impact on their mental health and happiness. It's crucial to understand how living arrangements affect depressive symptoms in China. Studies on how various leisure activities modify this association are yet limited. METHODS: This study relies on panel data derived from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), collected during waves spanning 2008/2009, 2011/2012, 2014, and 2018. The primary objective is to examine the relationship between living arrangements, leisure activities, and depressive symptoms of elderly individuals. Linear mixed-effects models were used to analyze the data. RESULTS: A total of 26,342 observations aged 65 and over were included in this paper. Older adults living alone (ß = 0.66, 95 % CI: 0.55, 0.76) or living in institutions (ß = 0.69, 95 % CI: 0.40, 0.98) had more depressive symptoms than those living with family. Leisure activities were negatively associated with depressive symptoms (ß = -0.16, 95 % CI: -0.18, -0.15). Moreover, there was significant interactions between living arrangements and leisure activities. No matter which kind of living arrangements, participating in physical, productive or social activity was associated with a lower risk of depressive symptoms. LIMITATIONS: Study design might introduce bias, and it cannot establish causality between the tested variables. CONCLUSIONS: Older adults living alone or in institutions have more possibility to develop depressive symptoms than those living with family, and such a relationship among Chinese older adults can be moderated by participating in leisure activities.

RESUMO

Background: Since few studies have incorporated factors like stressors, coping styles, and academic burnout into the same model to analyze their impacts on depressive symptoms, this research attempts to establish an optimal structural model to explore the direct and indirect effects of these factors on depressive symptoms. Methods: A total of 266 postgraduates completed questionnaires regarding coping styles, academic burnout, stressors, and depressive symptoms. The path analysis was applied for investigating the roles of coping styles and academic burnout in mediating the relationship between stressors and depressive symptoms. Results: The total and direct effects of stressors on depressive symptoms were 0.53 and 0.31, respectively. The proportion of the direct effect of stressors on depressive symptoms to its total effect amounted to 58.50%. The indirect effects of academic burnout, positive coping style, and negative coping style on the association between stressors and depressive symptoms were 0.11, 0.04, and 0.03, taking up 20.75%, 7.55%, and 5.66% of the total effect, respectively. The serial indirect effect of positive coping style and academic burnout was 0.02, accounting for 3.77% of the total effect, while that of negative coping style and academic burnout was 0.02, taking up 3.77% of the total effect. Conclusions: Coping styles and academic burnout chain jointly mediate the relationship between stressors and depressive symptoms among postgraduates. Thus, encouraging postgraduates to tackle stress positively may reduce the likelihood of the development of academic burnout and further reduce depressive symptoms.

RESUMO

Chinese Golden Courses was proposed by the Ministry of Education of China in 2018. It consists of five types. Virtual Simulation Golden Course is one of them. The college students are often faced with the problems of few opportunities, higher cost, higher risk and poorer effect during the internship in logistics courses. Virtual simulation experiment course is an important means to solve this kind of practical teaching problem. Green Logistics Virtual Simulation Experiment (GLVSE), a course built according to Virtual Simulation Golden Course, as a case was reported. The development process of GLVSE such as designing reasonable talent training architecture, reflecting Two Properties and One Degree, cooperating between schools and enterprises, and reforming the teaching mode with the way of "mixed online and offline" were introduced in detail. Six successful experiences and a model of building virtual simulation golden course are summed up. The report provides important references for developing high-quality virtual simulation courses not only for Chinese universities but also for other universities in the world.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to verify the moderating roles of lifestyle factors and age between body mass index (BMI), BMI trajectory and depressive symptoms of Chinese adults through a prospective design. METHODS: The participants who are 18 years old and above from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) were included in the 2016 baseline and 2018 follow-up research. BMI was calculated according to self-report weight (kilogram) and height (centimeter). Depressive symptoms were evaluated via the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CESD-20) scale. Inverse probability-of-censoring weighted estimation (IPCW) was used to check whether selection bias existed. Modified Poisson regression was performed to calculate prevalence and risk ratios as well as 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS: After adjustment, it was found that the positive associations of persistent underweight (RR = 1.154, P < 0.001) and normal weight → underweight (RR = 1.143, P < 0.001) with 2018 depressive symptoms were significant among middle-aged people, while the negative association of persistent overweight/obesity (RR = 0.972, P < 0.001) was significant in young adults. Notably, smoking moderated the relationship between baseline BMI and subsequent depressive symptoms (interaction P = 0.028). Also, exercise regularly and exercise duration weekly moderated the relationships of baseline BMI (interaction P = 0.004 and 0.015) and trajectories of BMI (interaction P = 0.008 and 0.011) with depressive symptoms among Chinese adults, respectively. CONCLUSION: Weight management strategies for underweight and normal weight → underweight adults should pay attention to the role of exercise in maintaining normal weight and improving depressive symptoms.

RESUMO

Vibrio alginolyticus is an important foodborne pathogen that can infect both humans and marine animals and cause massive economic losses in aquaculture. Small noncoding RNAs (sRNAs) are emerging posttranscriptional regulators that affect bacterial physiology and pathological processes. In the present work, a new cell density-dependent sRNA, Qrr4, was characterized in V. alginolyticus based on a previously reported RNA-seq analysis and bioinformatics approach. The effects of Qrr4 actions on the physiology, virulence, and metabolism of V. alginolyticus were comprehensively investigated based on molecular biology and metabolomics approaches. The results showed that qrr4 deletion markedly inhibited growth, motility and extracellular protease activities. Additionally, nontargeted metabolism and lipidomics analyses revealed that qrr4 deletion induced significant disturbance of multiple metabolic pathways. The key metabolic remodelling that occurred in response to qrr4 deletion was found to involve phospholipid, nucleotide, carbohydrate and amino acid metabolic pathways, providing novel clues about a potential mechanism via which mutation of qrr4 could interfere with cellular energy homeostasis, modulate membrane phospholipid composition and inhibit nucleic acid and protein syntheses to regulate the motility, growth and virulence characteristics of V. alginolyticus. Overall, this study provides a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory roles of the new cell density-dependent sRNA Qrr4 in V. alginolyticus. KEY POINTS: • A novel cell density-dependent sRNA, Qrr4, was cloned in V. alginolyticus. •Qrr4 regulated growth and virulence factors of V. alginolyticus. • Phospholipid, nucleotide and energy metabolisms were modulated obviously by Qrr4.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: RNA G-quadruplexes (rG4s) are non-canonical structural motifs that have diverse functional and regulatory roles, for instance in transcription termination, alternative splicing, mRNA localization and stabilization, and translational process. We recently developed the RNA G-quadruplex structure sequencing (rG4-seq) technique and described rG4s in both eukaryotic and prokaryotic transcriptomes. However, rG4-seq suffers from a complicated gel purification step and limited PCR product yield, thus requiring a high amount of RNA input, which limits its applicability in more physiologically or clinically relevant studies often characterized by the limited availability of biological material and low RNA abundance. Here, we redesign and enhance the workflow of rG4-seq to address this issue. RESULTS: We developed rG4-seq 2.0 by introducing a new ssDNA adapter containing deoxyuridine during library preparation to enhance library quality with no gel purification step, less PCR amplification cycles and higher yield of PCR products. We demonstrate that rG4-seq 2.0 produces high-quality cDNA libraries that support reliable and reproducible rG4 identification at varying RNA inputs, including RNA mounts as low as 10 ng. rG4-seq 2.0 also improved the rG4-seq calling outcome and nucleotide bias in rG4 detection persistent in rG4-seq 1.0. We further provide in vitro mapping of rG4 in the HEK293T cell line, and recommendations for assessing RNA input and sequencing depth for individual rG4 studies based on transcript abundance. CONCLUSIONS: rG4-seq 2.0 can improve the identification and study of rG4s in low abundance transcripts, and our findings can provide insights to optimize cDNA library preparation in other related methods.

RESUMO

Objectives: This study aims to explore the associations of personality traits and extra-family social relationship with depressive symptoms among Chinese adults. Methods: A nationally representative sample of 29,810 adults aged 16 and above were selected from 2018 CFPS. Personality and depressive symptoms were measured using CBF-PI-15 and the CES-D8 scale. Extra-family social relationship was assessed through the self-rated evaluation. The multiple regression analysis and the PROCESS macro were used for the mediation analysis. Results: Extraversion (OR = 0.807, 95% CI = 0.773, 0.842), agreeableness (OR = 0.795, 95% CI = 0.756, 0.835) and extra-family social relationship (OR = 0.927, 95% CI = 0.913, 0.941) had negative associations with depressive symptoms. Extra-family social relationship could mediate between extraversion and depressive symptoms (Indirect effect = -0.049,95% CI = -0.060, -0.039) as well as agreeableness (Indirect effect = -0.056, 95% CI = -0.068, -0.046) and depressive symptoms. Comparing to females, the indirect effect accounts for a higher proportion of total effect in males. Conclusion: Extra-family social relationship might mediate the association between extraversion and depressive symptoms as well as agreeableness and depressive symptoms.

RESUMO

Plasmodium falciparum, a protozoan parasite and causative agent of human malaria, has one of the most A/T-biased genomes sequenced to date. This may give the genome and the transcriptome unusual structural features. Recent progress in sequencing techniques has made it possible to study the secondary structures of RNA molecules at the transcriptomic level. Thus, in this study we produced the in vivo RNA structurome of a protozoan parasite with a highly A/U-biased transcriptome. We showed that it is possible to probe the secondary structures of P. falciparum RNA molecules in vivo using two different chemical probes, and obtained structures for more than half of all transcripts in the transcriptome. These showed greater stability (lower free energy) than the same structures modelled in silico, and structural features appeared to influence translation efficiency and RNA decay. Finally, we compared the P. falciparum RNA structurome with the predicted RNA structurome of an A/U-balanced species, P. knowlesi, finding a bias towards lower overall transcript stability and more hairpins and multi-stem loops in P. falciparum. This unusual protozoan RNA structurome will provide a basis for similar studies in other protozoans and also in other unusual genomes.

RESUMO

This study aims to explore the associations between personality traits and depressive symptoms among Chinese adults and analyse the gender and age differences in the associations. A national representative sample of 28,628 adults aged 18 and above were selected from the 2018 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) data. The short version of the Big Five Inventory (CBF-PI-15) and the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D 8) were used to measure personality traits and depressive symptoms respectively. Binary logistic regression models were employed to analyse the associations between personality traits and depressive symptoms in the whole participants, different age groups and genders respectively. After adjustment, higher levels of conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness were related to lower level of depressive symptoms, while higher levels of openness and neuroticism were related to higher level of depressive symptoms (p < 0.05). A significant interaction between gender and conscientiousness on depressive symptoms was found (interaction p = 0.005), and the association between conscientiousness and depressive symptoms was stronger in males than females (p < 0.001). Significant interactions between age and conscientiousness (interaction p = 0.007), agreeableness (interaction p = 0.001) on depressive symptoms were found respectively. Moreover, the associations of conscientiousness and agreeableness with depressive symptoms were strongest among old group, followed by middle-aged group, and then young group (p < 0.05). In conclusion, conscientiousness, extraversion and agreeableness had negative associations with depressive symptoms, while openness and neuroticism had positive associations with depressive symptoms. The negative association between conscientiousness and depressive symptoms was stronger among males than females, and the negative associations of conscientiousness and agreeableness with depressive symptoms were strongest among old group, followed by middle-aged group, and then young group.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: In China, a developing country, the imbalance of development exists in different fields, and the inequalities in the distribution of healthcare services have garnered increasing attention. This study aimed to assess the healthcare services allocation and compare the latest distribution ratios of the essential healthcare indicators with the national requirement values announced by the government to research the level of healthcare development in China. METHODS: Data were extracted from the Chinese Statistical Yearbook (2010-2019). The Healthcare Resource Density Index (HRDI) was used to evaluate equity in the demographic and geographical dimensions. The requirement values related to the ratio of doctors, nurses, and institution beds per thousand people were drawn from government documents. The data of healthcare serviceability indicators were compared with those requirements to check the situation of each province's medical development. RESULTS: From 2010 to 2018, there was a sustainable upward trend in government investment, however, a noticeable drop in the investment in northeast areas was seen. Although the HRDI of the institutions, beds, doctors, and nurses experienced some small fluctuations over the years, the developing areas in the middle-west areas had almost approached the level of developed east areas. There were only four provinces that met the requirements of the government in all three indicators (the ratio of institution beds, doctors, and nurses per thousand people). CONCLUSION: The equality of the distribution of healthcare services in China was unfair between the eastern and middle-western areas. The government launched the developing requirements and paid additional attention to narrowing the imbalance among different economic level regions to meet the needs of the local people. Although many provinces did not meet the requirements for medical resources in 2019, the distribution of healthcare services was approached relatively equitably countrywide.

RESUMO

Adult muscle stem cells, also known as satellite cells (SCs), play pivotal roles in muscle regeneration, and long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) functions in SCs remain largely unknown. Here, we identify a lncRNA, Lockd, which is induced in activated SCs upon acute muscle injury. We demonstrate that Lockd promotes SC proliferation; deletion of Lockd leads to cell-cycle arrest, and in vivo repression of Lockd in mouse muscles hinders regeneration process. Mechanistically, we show that Lockd directly interacts with RNA helicase DHX36 and the 5'end of Lockd possesses the strongest binding with DHX36. Furthermore, we demonstrate that Lockd stabilizes the interaction between DHX36 and EIF3B proteins; synergistically, this complex unwinds the RNA G-quadruplex (rG4) structure formed at Anp32e mRNA 5' UTR and promotes the translation of ANP32E protein, which is required for myoblast proliferation. Altogether, our findings identify a regulatory Lockd/DHX36/Anp32e axis that promotes myoblast proliferation and acute-injury-induced muscle regeneration.

RESUMO

(1) Background: This study aimed to explore the factors associated with the subjective well-being (SWB) of Chinese adolescents from a more comprehensive perspective and to analyze the importance of its influencing factors. (2) Methods: Obtained from the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) 2018, the research data involved 2316 adolescents aged 10-15. By using the Chi-square test, t-test and binary logistic regression, we investigated the associations of individual-, family- and community-level factors with SWB in Chinese adolescents. To explore the rank of the influencing factors of SWB, the random forest model was set up. (3) Results: In individual-level factors, girls, who were adolescents with higher academic performance and school satisfaction, with the habit of midday napping and reading books, and with higher self-esteem, had a higher SWB. In family-level factors, mothers living at home resulted in a higher SWB, while quarrelling with their parents led to low SWB. In community-level factors, adolescents with better social relationships, social trust and who were better at telling their troubles to others had a higher SWB. Based on the random forest model, the importance degree was ranked, and the top five were decided, including self-esteem (89.949), social relations (43.457), academic performance (31.971), school satisfaction (27.651) and quarrelling with parents (19.026). (4) Conclusions: Self-esteem, social relations, academic performance, school satisfaction and quarrelling with parents are all important variables that are related to the SWB of Chinese adolescents.

RESUMO

In the present work, a magnetic ionic liquid (MIL) ([Co(DMBG)2][Co(hfaca)3]) was designed and synthesized with both the cation and anion respectively containing a paramagnetic component. With the prepared MIL as the extraction solvent, a vortex-assisted dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (VA-DLLME) method was developed and combined with back-extraction for the enrichment of five fluoroquinolone antibiotics (FQs). The MIL can be easily collected and separated from the aqueous phase under an external magnetic field due to the strong magnetic susceptibility and red color. Some experimental factors affecting the extraction efficiency were investigated, and the optimum extraction efficiency was obtained in a basic solution (pH=9) for the extraction process and with 2% (v/v) formic acid as the back-extraction solvent. Under the optimized extraction and back-extraction conditions, the proposed method was validated and exhibited good linearity with coefficients of determination (R2) above 0.9956 in the range of 2.5-800 ng·mL-1 and 5.0-800 ng·mL-1, low limits of detection (LODs) within 0.75-1.5 ng·mL-1 and satisfactory intra-day and inter-day precisions with relative standard deviations (RSDs) respectively less than 10.6% and 8.6%. Finally, the method was applied for the determination of five FQs in four samples of tap water, milk, honey and chicken, and good precision with RSDs of 0.5-9.5% and acceptable recoveries (73.8-114.3%) were obtained.

RESUMO

RNA structures are essential to support RNA functions and regulation in various biological processes. Recently, a range of novel technologies have been developed to decode genome-wide RNA structures and novel modes of functionality across a wide range of species. In this review, we summarize key strategies for probing the RNA structurome and discuss the pros and cons of representative technologies. In particular, these new technologies have been applied to dissect the structural landscape of the SARS-CoV-2 RNA genome. We also summarize the functionalities of RNA structures discovered in different regulatory layers-including RNA processing, transport, localization, and mRNA translation-across viruses, bacteria, animals, and plants. We review many versatile RNA structural elements in the context of different physiological and pathological processes (e.g., cell differentiation, stress response, and viral replication). Finally, we discuss future prospects for RNA structural studies to map the RNA structurome at higher resolution and at the single-molecule and single-cell level, and to decipher novel modes of RNA structures and functions for innovative applications.

RESUMO

Learning the relationship between the part and whole of an object, such as humans recognizing objects, is a challenging task. In this paper, we specifically design a novel neural network to explore the local-to-global cognition of 3D models and the aggregation of structural contextual features in 3D space, inspired by the recent success of Transformer in natural language processing (NLP) and impressive strides in image analysis tasks such as image classification and object detection. We build a 3D shape Transformer based on local shape representation, which provides relation learning between local patches on 3D mesh models. Similar to token (word) states in NLP, we propose local shape tokens to encode local geometric information. On this basis, we design a shape-Transformer-based capsule routing algorithm. By applying an iterative capsule routing algorithm, local shape information can be further aggregated into high-level capsules containing deeper contextual information so as to realize the cognition from the local to the whole. We performed classification tasks on the deformable 3D object data sets SHREC10 and SHREC15 and the large data set ModelNet40, and obtained profound results, which shows that our model has excellent performance in complex 3D model recognition and big data feature learning.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease featured by inflammation and remodeling of airway. Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cell (ADSCs)-derived exosomal miRNAs have been suggested as promising therapeutic manners for diseases. METHODS: ADSCs and airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs) were isolated from SD rats. Flow cytometry was conducted to detect the surface biomarkers of isolated cells. Exosomes were extracted by sequentially centrifuge method and identified by Western blotting and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA). Uptake of exosomes by ASMCs was detected by confocal assay. ASMCs were treated with platelet-derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) to mimic cell remodeling and inflammation. Cell counting 8 (CCK-8), Transwell, and flow cytometry were performed to determine the viability, migration, and apoptosis of ASMCs. Release of inflammatory factors was detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Levels of RNAs and proteins were measured by quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) assay. Interaction between miR-301a-3p and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) was determined by luciferase reporter gene assay. The effect of Exosomal miR-301a-3p was analyzed in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthma mouse model. RESULTS: ADSCs-derived exosomes could be effectively internalized by ASMCs. Exosomal miR-301a-3p notably suppressed the PDGF-BB-stimulated proliferation and migration of ASMCs, and enhanced apoptosis, as well as decreased the secretion of inflammatory factors. MiR-301a-3p directly targeted the 3'UTR region of STAT3. STAT3 overexpression reversed the suppressive effects of exosomal miR-301a-3p on ASMCs under PDGF-BB stimulation. The expression of miR-301a-3p and STAT3 was negative correlation in specimen from patients with asthma. Exosomal miR-301a-3p inhibited OVA-induced lung injury by targeting STAT3 in mice. CONCLUSION: This study exposed that exosomal miR-301a-3p from ADSCs could effectively alleviate PDGF-BB-stimulated remodeling and inflammation of ASMCs via targeting STAT3, presented ADSCs-derived exosomal miR-301a-3p as a promising therapeutic approach for asthma.

RESUMO

Background: Little research has been conducted on the association between pregnant specific stress and depressive symptoms, and whether family relationship and leisure hobbies moderate the association. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 647 pregnant women was conducted in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province of China. Pregnancy Pressure Scale (PPS), Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and two single items were used to assess stress, perinatal depressive symptoms, family relationship and leisure hobbies, respectively. The analysis included χ2-test, Fisher's exact test, and binary logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of perinatal depressive symptoms was 22.9% among the participants. After adjustment, four dimensions of pregnancy stress were found to increase the risk of depressive symptoms, and odds ratios (ORs) were 4.175 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.240, 7.779), 5.947 (95% CI = 2.624, 13.478), 3.907 (95% CI = 2.375, 6.425), and 8.534 (95% CI = 4.588, 15.873) for factors 1, 2, 3, and 4 (recognition of the role of parents, worrying about maternal and child health and safety, the changes in body shape and physical activity level, as well as child care and marriage), respectively. In addition, significant interactions were found between factor 2, factor 4 and family relationship, leisure hobbies with depressive symptoms, respectively (interaction P < 0.10). Conclusion: Tailored stress-overcoming programs, as well as health services, are needed to relieve women's pregnancy stress and prevent them from depressive symptoms. Clinical practice should conduct family relationship-oriented interventions and women themselves can cultivate extensive leisure hobbies in the period of pregnancy preparation.

RESUMO

Utilization of low-cost, environmental-friendly microbial enhanced oil recovery (MEOR) techniques in thermal recovery-processed oil reservoirs is potentially feasible. However, how exogenous microbes facilitate crude oil recovery in this deep biosphere, especially under mesophilic conditions, is scarcely investigated. In this study, a thermal treatment and a thermal recurrence were processed on crude oil collected from Daqing Oilfield, and then a 30-day incubation of the pretreated crude oil at 37 °C was operated with the addition of two locally isolated hydrocarbon-degrading bacteria, Amycolicicoccus subflavus DQS3-9A1T and Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b, respectively. The pH, surface tension, hydrocarbon profiles, culture-dependent cell densities and taxonomies, and whole and active microbial community compositions were determined. It was found that both A. subflavus DQS3-9A1T and Dietzia sp. DQ12-45-1b successfully induced culture acidification, crude oil bioemulsification, and residual oil sub-fraction alteration, no matter whether the crude oil was thermally pretreated or not. Endogenous bacteria which could proliferate on double heated crude oil were very few. Compared with A. subflavus, Dietzia sp. was substantially more effective at inducing the proliferation of varied species in one-time heated crude oil. Meanwhile, the effects of Dietzia sp. on crude oil bioemulsification and hydrocarbon profile alteration were not significantly influenced by the ploidy increasing of NaCl contents (from 5 g/L to 50 g/L), but the reconstructed bacterial communities became very simple, in which the Dietzia genus was predominant. Our study provides useful information to understand MEOR trials on thermally processed oil reservoirs, and proves that this strategy could be operated by using the locally available hydrocarbon-degrading microbes in mesophilic conditions with different salinity degrees.
