RESUMO

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of modified nanoscale zero-valent iron (SAS-nZVI) on chemical leaching of lead and cadmium composite contaminated soil by citric acid (CA). The synthesized SAS-nZVI was used as a leaching aid to improve the removal rate of soil heavy metals (HMs) by CA chemical leaching. The effects of various factors such as SAS-nZVI dosage, elution temperature and elution time were studied. At the same time, the effect of chemical leaching on the basic physical and chemical properties of soil and the morphology of HMs was evaluated. The results show that when the SAS-nZVI dosage is 2.0 g/L, the leaching temperature is 25 °C, and the leaching time is 720 min, the maximum removal rates of Pb and Cd in the soil are 77.64% and 97.15% respectively. The experimental results were evaluated using elution and desorption kinetic models (Elovich model, double constant model, diffusion model). The elution and desorption process of Pb and Cd in soil by SAS-nZVI-CA fitted well with the double-constant model, indicating that the desorption kinetic process of Pb and Cd is a heterogeneous diffusion process, and the elution process is controlled by diffusion factors. After leaching with SAS-nZVI-CA, the physical and chemical properties of the soil changed little, the mobility and toxicity of HMs in the soil were reduced, and the HMs content in the leaching waste liquid was reduced. It can be concluded that SAS-nZVI enhances the efficiency of CA in extracting Pb and Cd from soil, minimizes soil damage resulting from chemical leaching technology, and alleviates the challenges associated with treating leaching waste liquid.

RESUMO

Background: Although numerous studies have demonstrated the clear benefits of exercise for people with asthma, controversy remains. This study evaluated the effects of sustained exercise types on lung function and quality of life in patients with asthma. Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and Wanfang database since January 2000 to August 2022 .included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of asthmatic children intervened with exercise. The outcomes were lung function and asthma-related quality of life. Fixed-effects model (I2≤50%) or random-effects model (I2>50%) was applied to calculate the pooled effects. Funnel plots were quantified to present publication bias, and a P value <0.05 was statistically significant. Results: Eventually, 15 trials conformed to the selection criteria. The exercise group significantly improved lung function (FEV1 and FVC) in asthmatic children compared with the control group. Forced Expiratory Volume in 1 Second (MD = 2.12, 95%CI = 0.70, 3.53; p = 0.003; I2 = 15%); Forced Vital Capacity (MD = 2.78, 95%CI = 1.26, 4.31; p = 0.0004; I2 = 56%). The immune system markers IL-6 and TNF-α, were significantly reduced in the exercise group. Interleukin-6 (MD = -0.49, 95%CI = -0.81, -0.17; p = 0.003; I2=0%); tumor necrosis factor-α (MD = -0.54, 95%CI = -0.92, -0.15; p = 0.006; I2 = 0%). That quality of life (PAQLQ) was significantly improved in children with asthma in the exercise group. PAQLQ-Total score (MD = 1.06, 95%CI = 0.46, 1.66; p = 0.006; I2 = 94%); PAQLQ-Emotional (MD = 0.91, 95%CI = 0.76, 1.06; p<0.00001; I2 = 90%); PAQLQ-symptoms (MD = 0.87, 95%CI = 0.71, 1.02; p<0.00001; I2 = 95%); PAQLQ-activities (MD = 1.20, 95%CI = 0.58, 1.82; p = 0.00001; I2 = 93%). Meta-analysis showed significant improvements in body composition in the exercise group. BMI (MD = -2.42, 95%CI = -4.40, 0.44; p = 0.02; I2 = 85%). Conclusions: This meta-analysis demonstrated the effectiveness of exercise in improving pulmonary function index (FEV1, FVC), immune system (IL-6, TNF-α, Feno), exercise ability (6MWT), body composition (BMI), and quality of life (PAQLQ) in asthmatic children. Asthmatic children should regularly participate in physical exercise.

RESUMO

A fluorescent probe to detect biothiols (GSH/Hcy/Cys) was synthesized with benzothiazole as the fluorophore and nitromethane as the recognition group. The recognition mechanism of the fluorescent probe was deduced. It was found that a nitroalkene in the molecule was used as the recognition site for this probe and reacted with the mercapto group of the biothiols by electrophilic addition, significantly enhancing the fluorescent signal. Experimental results showed that the fluorescent probe had a low detection limit, good selectivity, strong anti-interference ability, and good naked eye recognition. The probe could detect biothiols (GSH/Hcy/Cys) in 20% organic solvent, with detection limits of 0.33 µM, 0.70 µM, and 0.87 µM, respectively. The probe will be applied further in biosensors and other fields.

RESUMO

This study was aimed to examine the effect of ovariectomy on visceral fat, serum adiponectin levels and lipid profile. Forty-five female Sprague Dawley rats were divided into three groups (n=15 each): ovariectomized group (OVX), ovariectomized plus estrogen-treated group (OVX+E2), and sham-operated group (SHAM). Body weight, abdominal adipose tissues, serum adiponectin and lipid profile were measured and compared among the groups after three-month feeding post-surgery. Significant increases in body weight and visceral fat were found in ovariectomized rats when compared with sham-operated ones and significant increases were also observed in serum adiponectin, triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in ovariectomized rats. Body weight, visceral fat and serum adiponectin levels were profoundly reduced in OVX+E2 group as compared with OVX group. It was concluded that ovarian hormone deficiency induced by ovariectomy leads to significant increases in body weight and visceral fat, along with increased serum adiponectin, triglyceride and very low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels in rats. Attenuation in these changes can be achieved by estrogen supplementation.
